Natures Ninja and Pain Inverter – Ranger PvP movies
http://www.twitch.tv/xsorovos
Go to 9:50 in the video if ya want a good laugh, if you don’t want to watch the whole thing.
9:50 in the video is the part you should look at, I was dying laughing at it.
Decided to another Natures Ninja video..
tip for my fellow rangers, watch the very last fight in the video for a good laugh if you only watch one thing ;o)
Did another Natures Ninja video of my pet eating people.
Sooooo much sustain and consistent, high condi dps
synergizes better with pets too. Im actually finding myself with so much endurance and healing that I dropped the sword/dagger for sb so I can stay relevant at long range with 1200 torch
Op I also wanted to add that you can never really have good sustain with power/prec builds and you’ll have to roll with organized groups
Yeap, That’s why i laugh every time I see people wanting our pets to mirror our stats…Because the way it is now is a HUGE advantage for us.
Though I do think we need some condition based pets.
But yea Power/Prec is just so wasted with the pets we currently have.
Have to go with apothecary. Was just about ready to delete my ranger until I got this set. Clerics doesnt work without double ravens. And you need sustain which means both toughness and healing
Power/precision builds are laughable sorry. Compared to condi rangers and to other profs.
hehe opened your eyes up to the ranger huh with Apothecary…
I remember when I got it a last year…I saw the stats that it was going to have and I was like “WTF, that’s amazing for Ranger”
Even posted about back then and a bunch of rangers were like “You can’t kill squat with that setup”
Yeap..Both…
Love my apothecary gear
Feel bad for new players though, when I got apothecary it had just came out and was cheap..
not so much anymore
Its weird to see people talking about Rangers now despite the fact that a couple of us have been running similar builds since like early November I think..
Esp Trap Builds, It surprises me that it took this long for Heavy Tank type Rangers with Traps to catch on…
Or for people to start using our other weapon sets besides Shortbow…
My pet stay stowed if I want him to, not become unstowed if I take damage.
The problem with P D is it only works if your enemy is stupid enough to fight it.
its a very survivable, but slow to kill build, it takes even a long time to kill glass cannon specced players.
Any decent or good player facing a decent or good PD Thief only needs to do one simple thing, Turn around and walk away, a PD Thief cannot catch up to you, nomatter how fast they are, What are they gonna do to stop you?
…….
In what world do you live in that a P/D thief can’t switch to another weapon set to chase?
I do it all the time, Unless you’re like an Elementalist and maybe some type of warrior, I’m going to catch up with you.
My personal favorite is when you’re stomping on someone 1v1, and he starts running, and people from his guild show up and zerg ya down
Then he proceeds to /bow
For some reason that just screams WoW player…
I’ve basically come to the conclusion that if its not fixed by the end of the month, I’m gone..
I will not play a game that you can’t see the enemy till you’re 2 feet away.
Multiple times I’ve engaged people only to have it turn out to be a group or more… and i’m solo….
I should not be having my bloody fights culled.
But here we are, despite telling them it didn’t work during the last test, they chose to go through with it.
So that’s it, if its not gone next patch, I am.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!
Seriously, war is war, and WvW is war. Expect to be surprised by superior numbers. Expect the enemy to be hiding inside that ‘undefended’ keep.
Expect that solo Mesmer to not be alone.
Expect to die running solo in WvW.
If that’s a problem for you, that’s your problem, not mine.
I relished the fighting tonight. At one point, I spotted a thief that had been waiting to gank our next yak. Out of view of him is small ball of ten or so allies, who also could not see him. I saw the rough outcome on the wall right them. I charge him, he goes into stealth, and moments later he and his buddy (who was already in stealth) are finishing me off. The 10 friendlies out of view of the thieves (and vice versa) see my down/dead symbols on the map and march around the slope, much to the dismay of the dual thieves. I got to put the finish on both thieves, thanks to my allies quick response + res.
Yes, I was surprised by someone I didn’t see. Didn’t alter the outcome any – a glass cannon thief can still kill me one-v-one, and a mini Zerg can kill 2 meager glass cannons caught off guard and with their key skills already on recharge.
Yeah, I got killed. Big deal. I stopped a yak gank by dual thieves, and all I had to do was die. All the same, I was solo. I expected to be killed going in.
//Portable CorpseAttitude, son. All it takes is attitude, and you have plenty of the wrong kind.
K, this is exactly the problem with this forum right now…
This guy pick a thread talking about culling, and proceeds to respond in a way that is just silly..
A. It’s not about being surprised about superior numbers…If you sneak up on me, That’s perfectly fine….If I attack you, and magically 10 people appear around you cause of culling, That is not fine….If i’m running along the bloody road, and all of a sudden you appear 2 feet in front of me, stop a second and start attacking me (basically surprised as I was that i appeared) again…That’s a bloody problem.
B. Don’t you dare come and respond again to me in a post if you don’t take the time to bloody read the thread you’re posting under…..You waste everyone’s time by rambling on about something you clearly don’t have a bloody clue about.
Damage shouldn’t unstow the Ranger Pet, it’s incredibly annoying.
I can handle most Thieves on my rangers, the ones i can’t handle it has less to do with the thief and more with the fact I can’t keep my pet Stowed.
Having a Ranger pet is basically an easy C/D for most Thieves…If I could stow my pet and dodge the C/D it’d make things far more easier when dealing them.
Sadly Anet has decided that ANY damage will automatically unstow the Ranger pet even if they don’t want it to happen…
Trying using GS#5 with this build. Hilt Bash : 30 Daze your foe with a hilt bash. Stun them if you hit from behind. Your pet’s next attack does 50% more damage.
The 50% extra seems to work even if don’t hit a opponent. My Jag macked someone for 6800 once using that.
Really now.. well isn’t that interesting … will have to try that.
Heh..Let me guess, these WvW changes are coming the same time the Ranger ones are coming grin
I don’t think Anet understands that WvW is the only reason this game isn’t laughed off right now…
I’ve basically come to the conclusion that if its not fixed by the end of the month, I’m gone..

But here we are, despite telling them it didn’t work during the last test, they chose to go through with it.
So that’s it, if its not gone next patch, I am.
So I recently learned that the jaguar pet F2 skill grants stealth that doesn’t break even when it attacks, and all hits are guaranteed to crit (according to gw2 wiki). This itself seems pretty awesome to me, so I started investigating just how much this can be “exploited.” Theoretically, the jaguar pet could be traited to be the most hilariously OP pet, with this build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQBdiURVwJWIZBrlBimCORJmiDho3D0r+2XhSkA
Notice that I did not include weapons, since you are not playing ranger, you are playing Jaguar. You can add weapons if you want to support your pet.
Here are the buffs that the jaguar has up all the time:
- 30% more crit dmg and gain health on crit (Skirmishing traits)
- up to 250% more power, prec, toughness, and vitality from Master’s Bond (not very applicable in pvp, but meh)
- bleed on crit and health regen (BM traits)
- +350 cond. damage (Wilderness traits)
- more health regen from Signet of the WildWith the utility skills your jaguar will have access to:
- 10 seconds of 40% damage and movement speed (sic em)
- 12 (?) seconds of +25% damage and stability (Signet of the Wild activation)
- Frenzy every 48 seconds
- Protection when you dodge
- Heal as One or Troll Unguent
- 20 seconds of stability, might, and fury (Rampage as One)Add that all up and you have a tanky and insanely damaging/bursty Jaguar. Oh and a pet Ranger, that should be be specced for “tanking” and as flamboyantly distracting as possible.
Applications:
- In WvW the “Guard” skill makes most enemy siege a non-issue (you’ll have to swap out SoW or another utility for this tho). The Guard skill, as most rangers have discovered, allows your pet to scale walls, gain stealth and protection, and catch defender by surprise, all at 3000 range.
- In skirmishes, you (the Jaguar) have access to a stealth burst that is just as OP as thieves imo, just make sure to have your ranger distract your opponent and stay alive (from up to 3000 range).
- In dungeons, just play as if you were a glass cannon thief. Know when to get out of melee range and when to make your ranger roll for protection. Note that the one thing a jaguar will struggle with is AoE, so you may want to take a break and let a drake take over for certain encounters. They excel at AoE and blast finishing fields.
- I have no idea how well this build would fare in spvp, but notice that you still have some access to speccing for traps in addition to crazy single target dps. There will certainly be people who will call this build non-viable, but this build seems like a welcome alternative to playing the weakest class in Guild Wars. I encourage you to re-roll Jaguar to experience this for yourself.
While I don’t play my ranger anymore I can make a suggestion… Run with a wolf, fear the the thief out the shadow refuge. If you don’t like running a wolf, shadow refuge is a good counter against your build. At the end of the day we all have to make sacrifices to counter the builds that annoy us the most.
Personally I love the wolf as its fear can be used as an extra downstate stomp break.
Wolf won’t knock the thief out of stealth half the time, Its only 2 seconds long if I remember correctly, Its good for interruption..But it won’t stop a res completely.
When the thief stealth rezzes you know exactly where he is. Worst case scenario you repeatedly hit your #1 attack key. AoE works great for hurting the thief. I have a guildie warrior that hits the thief with hundred blades. Rapid fire attacks do a great job of deterring a thief from rezzing the target and you have a good chance of bringing down the thief as well. As others mentioned you can knock/pull them out.
If you stand there doing nothing while he rezzes the guy then you were outplayed.
Short of a 100B Warrior, you’re not going to kill me doing that on top of me.
You guys seem to forget, I play both a Ranger and a Thief, I know exactly what can and cannot counter House Ressing.
Pulling/Pushing only works vs the thief…It doesn’t magically make the downed person appear…..You can possibly get lucky and damage me, but i’ll go right back to ressing people with you not being able to do squat about it.
One day in particular I was able to fully res a dead player while 2 People attempted to kill me, All I’d do is simply wait for house stealth was up, Let them pop their AOE’s on me (by going near them stealthed and start ressing) Then doing House Stealth before doing the big res.
There was nothing they could do to stop me from doing this.
I’ve Ressed Countless people despite being beat on while in House Stealth…..Sure if you have a large zerg dropping AOE’s I probably won’t be able to res, But then again if we’re catering to just Large Zergs for dealing with Stealthers something is seriously wrong with the game.
Attacking won’t stop the rez unless you down the thief. Stealth house has counters. Not every class has those counters available to them.
I specifically take shield on my guardian to counter refuge. It’s a bit more balanced in a group versus group setting. If you are running solo with no counter to it, it’s going to suck for you for sure.
Have you thought about running duo, Xsorus? You can pair up with a class/build that covers some of your weaknesses.
i only run duo if i’m on the thief and guildies are on, i wont do it on the ranger
Attacking in a spot probably works better if you’re glass cannon build, for condition specs not so much..Maybe a Necro could pull it off.
I know that when I play my thief though I don’t have trouble getting my friend up if we’re house stealthed and 1 or 2 people are beating on us in an area, the only time it becomes difficult if there is 5+ people aoeing on the spot.
You’re a condition spec ranger. You have traps. Put the traps down in the shadow refuge. They will do more damage the longer he sits there reviving. Throw your torch down, spam sword 1.
Ehhh, I remove conditions while I’m stealthed…and heal myself for a crap ton…a Ranger has virtually zero chance of killing me with traps while I rez someone..
and Sword 1 will not down anyone (esp a condition spec one) before they’re rezzed.
much worse then before…
Culling has been worse since Fridays patch. Last week it was amazing.
2600k @3.4
GtX590
12Gb RAMAnyone else seeing a pattern here (NVidia)?
Culling has nothing to do with your computer.
Culling is done on the server, not on your computer. It does not matter if you have a good gaming system, a super computer, a commodore 64 or a monkey with a crayon.
The server knows there’s are 20 people around you. It does not send you information on all 20. It decides which 10 it thinks you need to see and sends you information on those 10 only.
The server decides you need to see players 1-10. It sends your computer information on players 1-10. Your computer renders player 1-10 on your screen.
The server does not send you information on players 11-20. They have been culled. Your computer will not render them, not because it is slow, or the video card is garbage or because your network connections is slow…it will not render them because it does not know about them.
Periodically, the server recalculates which players it thinks you need to see. Since you have moved 15 feet to the north it decides you no longer need to see players 2,4, or 6. It decides you now need to see players 18, 19 and 20.
You no longer receive information on 2, 4, or 6. They have been culled at the server. You computer stops rendering them because it no longer knows about them. It not because your computer is slow your video card is Nvidia…the server has stopped telling your computer about players 2, 4 and 6 so your computer cannot draw them anymore.
The server sends you information on players 18, 19 and 20. Your computer starts rendering them because it now knows about them.
That is pretty much the worst way to handle a massive scale PvP game..
If 20 people are near me, I want to bloody see all 20 of them..not 10, 11,12…..I want to see all bloody 20..
Attacking won’t stop the rez unless you down the thief. Stealth house has counters. Not every class has those counters available to them.

No, learn to use it to your advantage. You can use knockbacks, dazes and pulls to stop them from doing stealth revives. Spam your attacks at where the player was and they won’t be able to res very easily if at all. (Yes I know I have a thief, but it’s a P/D thief that only runs shadow refuge if someone makes me)
It can be a bother when you run into a coordinated group that uses them, but they are just playing well and you should learn counters.
So if you don’t have Cone Based Knockback/Dazes/Pulls (Daze by the way won’t stop them from ressing, you can just start back up) you’re pretty much screwed?
Also the person on the ground will still be stealthed, so nothing is stopping them from running back over and ressing the person either.
I should know…I’ve done it…
I dislike the down system a lot already…..
However if I could pin one thing down that I bloody hate the most its Thieves throwing House Stealth on top of someone and rezzing them….
The Rez system is already annoying, this just adds a new level of annoyance to it.
I have a thief as well, So I know how bloody powerful it is.
This kind of class imbalance in WvW is a bad sign.
I actually can’t remember a RvR style game that had an imbalance this bad. Though, to be fair, the ones I have played have been fairly mature, with imbalances ironed out.
Has anyone else, with experience in RvR games, seen an imbalance this bad?
Unless there is sarcasm, did you not play Warhammer? Everybody played Brightwizard/Sorceress and Disciple of Khaine/Warrior Priest. There was no reason to play any other class except maybe bring 1 Magus/Engineer for an AoE pull. BWs/Sorcs were so overpowered if you played any other another DPS class you were considered gimp. Didn’t even matter what renown rank/gear you had.
You forgot to complain about Chosen/KoBS and Slayers too
Yeap, knights/bws/Wp’s were core for groups…
Eventually it switched up some and people ran Slayers over BW’s…
The other classes were more or less fine, and you could switch them out in some cases in group..Really depended…
BW’s though were the main offender in Warhammer online though for shoddy mechanic and moronic abilities.
Playing with Fire for example… was obscene at the start…You could counter it somewhat by stacking the crap out of Fire Resist in that game..but they eventually nerfed that because they wanted BW’s to instant gib people it seems.
Though my Squig herder did absolutely wreck the crap out of BW’s..that was the funny thing, that class really needed a full group for its potential…Running around solo I would instant gib most ones I saw..
My Black Orc at the start was also pretty much unkillable 1v1…I mean a beefy tank with a 1200 point heal every 10 seconds? Yes please…
edit
Wanted to add, DPS DoK’s were pretty much required at the start for Destruction (chosen as well), the One Dot Group buff DoK’s got with the 60% snare was absolutely insane for group fights.
I mean it pretty much meant no one could kite at all…
(edited by Xsorus.2507)
Yeap its worse now, No Anet can’t fix it….nor are they willing to..
Look at the test they did in December, No one liked it..it was completely negative feedback, and sure enough.. they applied it anyway…
How can you take a company like that seriously when it comes to fixing the problem.
Its funny, GW2 is Lots of Culling so you can’t see the enemy you’re fighting..
SWTOR had no culling, but you couldn’t fight with more then 16 people without it becoming a slide show..
DAOC still trucking alone with zero problem….
amazing how new MMO’s are getting worse as they along..
Tonight was honestly the worst i’ve seen it..
People appearing instantly in front of you..
Entire Groups of people vanishing and reappearing constantly..
Hell, I was getting hit by people who I never saw coming, and they weren’t thieves..They just appear right next to me hitting me…….
It was just awful tonight.
Its not just you
The latest patch is downright awful…Stuff is getting culled that shouldn’t be…
Multiple times tonight I had a guy just appear beating on me, and i’m not talking about Thieves…
Multiple times me and my friend would be fighting and instantly a group of people would appear on top of us…the Culling is just awful…
Blah…was hoping people wouldn’t catch on how good Rangers are at 1v1..
You can see the videos in my Sig if ya wanna see me 1v1 in World vs World, I use Pain Inverter though so it just makes me even more silly when it comes to 1v1 Fights.
Honestly I can tell you exactly which talent makes Rangers good for 1v1
and its the Protection on Dodge talent in Wilderness.
Its only 2 seconds, But considering you’re dodging damage and then you instantly take less damage after the dodge before allowing ya to dodge again (plus all our other weapon dodges) it just adds up so quickly.
Make a video of it, it’d be cool to see it in action.
Xsorus is a good Ranger no doubt, and don’t think I’m trying to take anything away from his accomplishments.
He did highlight a potential benefit for the Ranger, above the ohter classes. Being able to dodge around, to not trigger Confusion ticks on yourself, and avoid retaliation, while your pet continues to do damage puts us above what other classes suffer against Pain Inverter, and Mesmers.
However, on my server people have begun killing our pets first, so I wonder what would have happened had that Ranger killed Xsorus’s pet first, what the outcome would have been.
The first time I had a Mesmer virtually instantly kill my pet, my mouth hit the floor. As a condition/BM spec, she cut my damage by more than half in a short period of time. Switching pets only bought me two seconds, before it was dead and I was staring at cooldowns.
Since then, it seems to be the normal occurence when roaming solo on my server.
She probably misclicked the pet and instead of you and shattered all his clones on it hehe
I’ve only had a few people try and actually kill the pet, I mean you waste a lot of DPS by going after him when the ranger can just swap out the pet every 15 seconds if you don’t actually kill it.
I also imagine about the only way to really kill it is by being Glass Cannon Spec, as Condition based won’t put out enough damage in 15 seconds to drop the pet.
Actually they’re killing both, and rather fast. The Mesmer just happened to be the first person to do it to me, and it took me by surprise. Unfortunately our pet dies a lot faster than you might think, and in BM spec, your damage is hurt drastically.
This probably wouldn’t work for a Condition spec, so you’re correct in those regards, but how many classes really run condition specs?
Mesmer’s/Thieves/Rangers occasionally Engineer’s
Glass Cannon Specs i’d kill fairly quickly though if I just run my regular build.
Probably why I don’t run into it very often, they don’t have time to do it.
Hey X, keep the videos coming. Couple of questions. Do you own a human toon ? If so have you ever used Prayer to Lyssa ? If so, how do you find it vs PI ? I have been using it the past couple of weeks. A buff…sometimes 2 every 12 seconds has been very nice. Aegis and Retaliation are two of the most common. Anywhere from 5-10 seconds. (also adds a condition on the enemy if in a fight)
i’ve not really looked at it, what does it do exactly?
How long are the buffs and conditions? Because that ability could actually be very good.
Pray to Lyssa, granting a random boon to yourself and a random condition to target enemy.
12 second cooldown
3/4 cast
buff lasts 5 seconds by default, not 100% sure on the condition
1,200 range
Look like a girl using itJust tested it 17 times.
5 Retalition for 5 seconds
3 Regen for 9 seconds
4 swiftness for 12 seconds
3 protection for 3 seconds
2 Aegis for 11 secondsPlus two times I had 2 buffs, each for 5 seconds.
Opponent usually gets a confusion or some type of bleed.
Yes, you look and sound like a girl using it but it’s nice that it is up every 12 seconds. Even when travelling I pop it. 12 seconds of Swiftness never hurts.
That’s another one of those abilities that no other class would use because they have clearly superior abilities… but us Rangers.. That’s actually comparable if not better then some of ours rofl.
I got a lot of Burns when I tried it on my warrior..so i’m wondering if its class based far as Conditions are concerned.
I’m surprised that there has not been a thread, not even a mention of it in Ranger update thread, unless I’ve been completely blind, which wouldn’t be for the first time. :P But now that the spirits received 25% additional health, I would like to ask if you guys think there can be a viable (support) build for rangers based on spirits? I haven’t done much testing but I would now really like to reconsider a spirit build. The improvement with proper traits maybe will now give a new and fun build to play around with
They still die instantly..
Simply not worth using..
What was the guy with the fiery greatsword doing at 6:55? He was whirling everywhere but towards you!
Nice video, as usual! I had a lot of fun watching you play!
Who knows what half the people are doing in the video..I’ve cut some videos that are simply not usable because the person is that bad..
Anyway this is probably my Last Ranger video…
I was thinking of doing another Thief video but not even sure i’m going to bother with that now.
No, I wasn’t picking on you, I’m glad you showed that fight. Some of the battles you had were excellent and I really liked the fight in the beginning. Do whatever makes you happy, xsorsus, it’s been a lot of fun having you around the forums.
oh it has nothing to do with that, just the game is growing very boring to me…..I’m hoping the world vs world realm rank system they’re adding will give me a reason to play.
Right now though I usually only log in to do the daily or make a movie…
Hopefully the game improves though.

Just look at number of people he is fighting that do not have food buff on. Food buffs make a lot of difference. How can so many people run around with out them on.
The Condition Duration one is bloody good….same with duration reduction..
I honestly don’t see why people don’t run them.
lol my engi (whose a condi engi btw) runs the condi duration reduction food ontop of his runes of melandru, it’s freaking disgusting how little conditions phase me xD
Yea, that’s what I was doing for some of the video
Other parts I was trying a full offensive setup using the Swamp Drake pet….
I find his F2 to actually be fairly good, mainly because it has a far easier time hitting that the River Drake based on the fact its 900 range vs 600 range.
If River Drake’s range was 900 as well, It’d be a lot more usable..
What is the deal with these super long Ques for WvW on Kaineng? I can see maybe a 15-20 minutes but over an hour? The forces that can actually get in are outnumbered because over half of our forces are tied up in the Ques waiting. I have been one of those. Now that we have a good matchup I WANT to WvW again but can not get in.
Its weird, i don’t get any queues on SBI..
not sure what is up

Nice video. Awesome that your dot damage does more damage than most Necro’s does. You survivability is pretty awesome too. Was weird how when you were fighting multiple players that they rarely seem to cc you.
Chances are if i’m killing multiple people with no PI, they’re not the greatest in the first place.
Some though are probably not solo spec, and maybe Zerg Surfers, so I can’t really judge them build wise.
By 40 seconds into the fight, you down a Guardian, who didn’t heal, nor cure conditions. He must have been glass canon spec, which is worthless for a Guardian.
I stopped watching there, and will watch later. I get irritated seeing poorly played toons in videos.
He healed…
But he didn’t remove conditions
Also you should of kept watching, I duel both a PI using Ranger and Engineer at the end of it ;o)
(edited by Xsorus.2507)
PVT/knight’s/berserker gear is ok, but you wont have enough sustain to fight a good mesmer, thief, or ele. two will ruin your world.
i rolled cleric’s with raven and owl, using my tpvp bunker setup. as i mentioned, u can tank 10 scrubs, but you cant really kill anything. with two ravens, the build would rock pretty hard. but that extra 4k burst is necessary.
this leaves us with a tanky BM condition build, which is great cuz u can tank a few people while doing decent damage
I’m using full soldier armor and knight/soldier jewels (soldier quiver). 0/0/30/10/30. 1h sword/warhorn/sb.
Burst is gimped compared to spvp cos i can’t use two ravens (cos the white one is not available in the gem store, tks anet, i love you too). Using raven/owl or raven/jaguar atm.
Eles are not a problem. You won’t prolly kill them if they are specced full bunker, but they won’t kill you anyway. Luckily most of them are just kids who found the “iwin” build on the forumz and don’t really know how to use it properly. They just spam the same rotation over and over and when you interrupt their button smashing they just panic and run away or die.
*D/p thieves are a problem, mostly cos wvw is full of stupid mobs they can use c&d on. *
like our pets lol
Decided to release a video not using PI since a couple Rangers complained it was more about that ability then the class.
Anyway Enjoy.
