*One thing I dislike about revenant is the hammer. Hammer has 1200 range and does a lot of damage specially CoR. You can run revenant with like 2.8k armor and still do crazy damage because of skills are set up that way and the traits provide so much extra dps especially the one that doubles your fury from 20% to 40%.. thats broken. Hammer auto range is fine at 1200, CoR range needs to be 900, phase smash needs to be 900 and drop the hammer needs to be 900. Also the staff 5 surge of the mists needs a procing time, currently the skill goes off instantly, there needs to be 1/4-3/4 seconds for the skill to proc. I know revenants got dps nerf in PvP which was good that is also needed in WvW.

Why do people still cry about hammer rev? It got nerfed like hell, autohitting a blob isnt more helpful than any ranger (so its not). CoR is MORE than obvious. Try playing hammer backline, and feel how squishy you are even with 3k armor.

Revenant is not allowed to be “viable” in any game mode! Raids and specially PvP (completely extinct there) already got it right! /s

I got no real issues with any of the “problems” you listed and holy kitten it is clear that you haven’t ever touched a Revenant in PvP or WvW.

If you ever watched Helseths streams, especially the 1v1s he used as practise or time filling while waiting to queue pop you’d see a slightly disturbing realisation. To get a kill he pretty much had to do an excellent continuum split moa burst, usually using portal to allow him to get back to where he ended the split to keep the pressure up. If it failed, which wasn’t uncommon then he pretty much couldn’t do too much until he had continuum split again.

Put simply mesmer atm is carried by moa, if elites weren’t reset by CS you’d see the power of mesmer drop very significantly. As much as I love the uniqueness of moa and how funny it can be across the game (srsly moa the wargs in the raid wing 3 escort, it’s hilarious) part of me thinks the game and class would be better off without the skill.

It props up the profession with portal to such an extreme that the only way a mesmer would not be viable with them is if there was an apex predator that would literally jump and kill them before they even got to a node. That isn’t a good balance state at all.

Practically every class/build is “propped up” by 1-2 key skills, Rev being the exception because it’s not being propped up, it already fell down. Where would thief be without Basi, the unblockable shareable CC on a low CD? Constantly running away from every fight. Where would DH be without ToF and a reset on its virtues? Dead in less than 30 seconds. I’m not saying your argument is illegitimate, it’s just applicable to almost every meta build. Some skills, especially elites, contribute more to the success of the build that others. That’s not unique to mesmer, only a few builds can have the elite changed out and still be fine (Engi’s sneak gyro being an example). And yeah Continuum Split is OP as has been pointed out many times before, that’s the real power creep here, not moa or portal. Honestly CS “props up” Chronomancer more than anything else.

Revenant is like the person who tries to be everything and so they end up sucking at everything or being subpar at everything.

Well except for the first year of HoT where they where gods at everything

Except they were not.
For instance they were always harder to master than current Berserker.
Revenant was actually High Risk/High Reward in its prime, an actual jack of all trades (and master of none but not mediocre like right now) while Zerker right now is just Low Risk/High Reward, you can’t just balance that way. And Rev was only ever popular among top players, their popularity/usage rate among most players has always been low in PvP (Yes most people are in Bronze to Gold). Before they started splitting PvE and PvP Revenant was already gutted by alot of nerfs because ANET kept balancing around a small group of people (ESL).

However, Revenant would be in a “decent” spot right now if everything else was drastically brought down, it should always go like this:

High Risk/High Reward
Low Risk/Low Reward

What are you implying? I would be careful here, because it is just your assumptions and are not based on any real statistics.

I’m implying that various personas and personality types are attracted to certain archtypes in RPGs, and that the thief/assassin/rogue archtype tends to get all the “I’m important enough for youtube!” types.

Aion was also plagued with scout classes, Archeage (lol) was infested by stealth and Perfect World (Old CN game) as well, full of Archers and Assassins. So it’s pretty obvious that the classes with the strongest dueling kits (stealth is a huge selling point) that depend on absolutely no one else but yourself are always the most popular and the easier to play the better. For most people it never has to do with how “risky” they are to play, people just want to win for the sake of winning so they give zero kittens about any “honor”.
Right now the riskiest class to play is Revenant and so what… it is still rare as kitten.

Stealth by default is stupid strong.

problem is when you need to:

kite:
- warrior he just pop his f1 and 1.1k hp/s regen = full hp
cc:
warrior pops out his f1 and perma stability is up = no cc’s for you. (its like fighting full rampage warrior)

So warrior is pretty much immune to stuns + kiting unless you are a Thief who can just go out of fight and come back in with teleports and backstab him. This just need to be toned down. They have too much now without any disadvantage. Hopefully it will be dealt with in next balance patch….hopefully…

get 2 equal skilled players and a DH/War will destroy the Power Rev in sPvP. Why do you think most of the high skilled Power Revs switched to another class. Its because if you are a top player sure you will do great on Power Rev but guess what? You will do even better if you switch to Warrior.

This is what people don’t get.

And sure Revenant is still viable… against noobs and in the hands of an actual top player, but that is the case with absolutely everything else.
Playing Revenant right now is just for bragging rights cause you kitten yourself.

Personally would like to ditch the amulet system completely and go to open full gear builds. . . or maybe split the amulets into 2-4 amulet slots so that we can experiment with different stat combos instead of being locked in to a “sport” like arrangement as it is now.

Yes lets go to open gear like WvW, because WvW totally doesn’t have massive gameplay and balance issues caused by said open gearing.

Even in its current state (which the real issue is just having low population) I find WvW way more fun, and I dare to say that it also has way more active players over PvP.

The Risk/Reward ratio is just so unfair atm. It’s a High Risk/Average Reward class right now. While a class like Berserker is Low Risk/High Reward.

I’m not surprised by this. Esports was always destined to fail. This artificial PvP “competitive scene” was nothing more than smoke and mirrors. To add, ANet balanced PvP around pro-leaguer interests instead of the average player. That is a guaranteed way to drive people away from this game. You just end up making a minority of players happy at everyones’ expense. That people in these forums thought esports was a good thing for this game is disappointing. All that esports marketing….for what? OP elite specs, broken leagues, lack of balance.

Now, there’s a chance to finally fix PvP and make it fun to play instead of trying to make it “competitive”. Dare I say, there’s also a chance to move into WvW, which badly needs attention more than PvP.

I don’t think peoples issue with pvp in general has to do with balancing other than the infrequent updates.

The issue is conquest is not friendly to the layman nor is it very fun by itself to play. To compare it to the joy that was GvG in the original series, it’s not even near the same level of fun.

You can’t just throw esports at a game and then it happens, even if you create a balanced mode it still has to be fun and accessible to most players without a high rate of failure because this game does kitten all to teach you how to play.

The game from the start should have included all sorts of fun pvp modes like arenas, GvG, HA, JQ, and FA. Those are what we loved from the original.

A new player isn’t gonna wanna hop into conquest, I mean you will get absolutely demolished repeatedly unless you know what you’re doing. I don’t see this any different to starting battlegrounds in other MMOs once you hit cap and have questing greens on. It just isn’t fair to new players.

Now, it’s not just an issue with new players either. Veterans would appreciate if their ONE mode available that isn’t a complete joke to not suck due to stale metas, lack of content updates, etc.

I personally find my enjoyment from conquest performing my roll well and really showing it to the team, so I don’t really have issues with it. I can definitely see where the boredom and the intimidation come from, though.

I love this games pvp either way no matter what happens because of one simple fact: no grinding for gear. Honestly I would love to do some arenas in WoW but since gear still matters I can’t bring myself to grind that stupid crap every kitten season. (and yes gear does still matter if anyone tries to argue this in Legion)

The same goes for pretty much every other MMO, and the ones that are similar to GW2 have crap combat and mechanics.

I just hope ANet wakes up and understands that they should have first and foremost made a FUN and appealing pvp structure with variety that everyone wants to be a part of, not just the pro’s.

I think the current population of pvp speaks for itself, FYI I think the game has always been fairly balanced (aside from launch lol) but that doesn’t mean that the balance isn’t cancer gameplay.

Do you really think, balancing arround people that don’t even understand half of the things they are talking about and that have completely different opinions on what should get changed, often based on anecdotal experiences and lack of knowledge, will somehow improve the game?

We would probably end up without any dmg skills, because apparently everything that can kill other players must be op accoding to someone …

They already do that.
Look at all the low no skill builds that play on auto pilot.
Players learn nothing because they don’t have to learn anything.
All they do is pop invulnerabilities and spam DPS like Chuck Norris.
There’s is no requirement for making hard choices,no risk and reward,just reward and reward and reward.

They never nerfed the low skill floor yet super effective builds like Berserker and DH cause they weren’t popular things on tournaments, yet the game is plagued by them.

I dont know where you placed last season but i finished almost at plat2 .

The last PvP match i did THIS season looked liked this.

The idea of balancing for weak players wont work and it doesnt work the other way either.

I wished i taped it because i would walk into 1 vs 3 fights and they couldnt even force me to use a rebound.

That’s why I’m always asking them to balance around the average player. They need to be balancing around high gold (making an assumption about the distribution of players here). Not around bronze, and not around ESL. You will never have good balance if you balance around either end of the spectrum.

Another +1, you are on point. Balancing around Gold would be great, not around bronze and not around the top 0.01% of the players.

Why are any of you happy about this? Basically giving up on competitive pvp… and you are all rejoicing….. sad.

Because PvP has been balanced around ESL teams for a long time, despite so few people playing at that level. A lot of classes are balanced around having only 1 on the team, some classes are balanced around having ridiculous team support that isn’t guaranteed in regular matches. The maps themselves are designed around teams that can effectively communicate, etc etc etc.

PvP has been bleeding players for a long time now, and its because ANet has tried to turn it into an ESL sport. Hopefully now they will start making PvP better, and in a while it will be in a good enough state that they can go back to ESL

So much this, kitten . So please ANET now it’s a good time to change for the better.

They never made any decisions based on eSports so idk.

They balanced an MMO on the concept of 5 people holding a node for years.

I never take Cruel Repercussion since its a kittenty gimmick to hit a random noob for high damage so I see now, Revenants barely have condition cleanses so I take the one on legend swap instead of that.

With full Marauder/Zerker (2700+ power, 210%+ Critical Damage but no bloodlust stacks nor damage while moving food) I’ve never hit above 12k-13k on a glass cannon with Coalescence of Ruin, it usually hits 4k’s at most on tanks and auto attacks of 2k’s on tanks as well and an average of 6k’s with CoR on zergs. Auto attacks on glass cannons are usually around 3.8k.
So blame Cruel Repercussion cause 10k on an AA, lol its no joke when people say that “Stars need to be aligned in order for that to happen”.

And stop diverting the original focus of the thread, which is Arc Divider.

I dont really care for the rest of you said but.. what? Have you compared cds to other classes and what they bring? Other classes have the same or even shorter cd’s with no extra cost behing them and in my cases they bring far more utility as well. Just compare war shield to rev shield, it some sad joke.

Rev wep skills were not only nerfed in cd’s, they were also directly nerfed in damage damage etc to stop please cus right now they arent even strong. Just compare s/s rev to scrapper hammer. Its like day n night.

I am not disagreeing with you about weapon cooldowns on Revenant skills being similar to those of other professions. I am simply stating that I think ANet would increase Rev’s weapon skill cooldowns if they removed the energy cost. I just don’t think they would remove the energy cost without compensating somewhere else.

I get what you are saying but they need to ask themselves… Compensating for what? Revenant is already in a bad spot, it only needs buffs/things that could help the class right now and not those stupid “compensation” changes they do like this piece of garbage:

Improving the damage of some classes is the very least thing they could do and actually the correct thing to do. Cause what the kitten does support have to do with Legends on Revenant like Shiro and Mallyx? kitten off with Ventari “buffs” cause now it might just become an excuse to not help the offensive legends.

Lol this is very funny since no one has even mentioned Revenant (What is that? The garbage under-performing class still in Beta?)

They literally have no bursts left now and the removal of swap damage sigils is going to hit even harder. Legend Swap activated the sigil and was part of the SoTM (nerfed to death) + Equilibrium (Nerfed some time ago) combo. So shut up about thief getting hit hard. Only few things have the kitten tier damage and sustain that Herald has and obviously none of them competitive.

And I highly doubt they are nerfing the stupid high stustain that Zerkers, Druids, DHs, Reapers have.

Remove energy costs off revenant weaponskills.

Revenant is a thief who has initiative costs not only on weaponskills, but on utilities and elites, AND those weaponskills on top of costing initiative still have cooldowns.

It makes no sense whatsoever to keep energy costs on revenant weapons because utility/elite costs are so high, the revenant can’t use weaponskills for utility without hurting offense or supporting the group.

Revenant sword 4 is a block just like warrior offhand block, except it also costs energy which means it’s energy not used for precision strike or energy that competes with upkeep energy. Meanwhile the warrior block costs nothing but a cooldown.

Energy costs on revenant weaponskills are the single biggest issue gimping revenants besides the massive unjustified nerfs to unrelenting assault and autoattack DPS in PvE despite the fact thief staff auto is outrageously better and it also reflects projectile at the end of the chain.

Thief Vault does more damage than Unrelenting Assault and it doesn’t split its damage across targets while also being an evade.

There was no reason whatsoever to gut unrelenting assault in PvE and shift damage onto precision strike which was originally meant to be a snare skill.

Their hamfisted changes to revenant pushed the class into irrelevance.

They nerfed facet of nature yet they are completely fine with PS warrior providing 25 permanent might to a group on top of empower allies and banners, while putting out 30k DPS. Or chrono being able to still keep ridiculous quickness uptimes without the revenant’s facet.

Why was revenant the only boon provider utterly gutted when it was already the inferior boon provider and no unique group buffs besides an obsolete facet which meant little when warriors and chronos don’t need it to maintain offensive boon stacks?

Revenant staff also needs an autoattack DPS buff, its damage loss is way too big for the marginal utility outside skills 3 and 5. Skill 4 heals for so little baseline, should be 1k without condis removed, 2k with it aoe baseline, none of this healing power coefficient garbage because nobody uses healing power gear in raids anyways, much elss revenants.

Skill 2 should daze first and then do the weakening big strike.

Mace and offhand axe need buffs as well. Torment in Confusion for PvE only should do the same base damage as bleeds, and the active triggers are a bonus since you can stack less torment/confusion than bleeds.

Finally got back around to reading up on this thread, just go too serious for me, imma just go back to flinging hammers at people in wvw >.>

Here you got it right with Rev, it’s the only place where you could call it “good”. And that’s the only thing I’ve been doing as well since some of the PvP overnerfs didn’t make it to WvW. The occasional 9k with CoR on glass cannons is fun but most of the time you just keep landing 3k’s (Yes with CoR and while using Zerk/Marauders) because so much people is using tank gear like Minstrels and Trailblazer.

Added on the extra tankiness from being a heavy class, the Glint heal and I can stay alive longer than other Condi’s thus to deal more DPS.

I just want to remark that the concept of heavy armor classes being “tankiest” than other classes is a bit overrated and certainly outdated. There’s less than 300 toughness points of difference between a full set of light and heavy armor which means that if a Warriors goes full zerker and a Mesmer goes full zerk minus the amulet and rings (chosing knight stats in them) the Mesmer toughness is higher. Passives (traits), skill selection and even the food has more impact in the tankiness of a character that the mere fact of being a clothes, leather or metal armor user.

In GW2 “armor” means just the kind of skins and looks that your character can display (and now even less, since the outfits introduction).

Whilst this is true, I’ve certainly had an easier time being Condi on Rev rather than my Engie or Ele.

Condirev is worse then every other class in pve. And power is not much better.

I was so hyped with HoT and played 300hours on my rev in 2 month without playing any other class in that time.
But today? I complete the map with her cause she is close to 100%, for everything else the other classes are so much better….Power dps? I play engi, condi? ranger. Easy fractals? Guard….and so on.

So because you don’t actually have a legitimate answer, you have to claim I’m a troll? Looks like you don’t know how to build a Rev, let alone use one. Rev’s are perfectly fine, they work as power, condi or healing.
Unless you can actually answer a point, don’t bother responding or calling somebody a troll because you can’t answer.

Casual perspective: S5 great, S6 no thanks

I would be astounded if any video game can make a game without an optimal choice.

It’s not about a lack of optima but rather the magnitude of how viable a non-optimal build is.

For example, you look at the WvW scene from pre-HoT, and in small-scale play, any build could be made useful if it jived with the team. Small groups ran plentiful mixtures of different builds and specs to fit into their styles, and fair-numbers fights in this respect were pretty much always balanced. Even blob tactics weren’t as strict; a good thief or periph group could carry a GvG. Most players could find success in sPvP with whatever build they ran, aside from the very top tier (and even then this had some pretty big occasional outliers). Now it’s just not the case.

It’s the difference between a game with an S/A/B/C/D-tiers for picks and a game with an S-tier followed by a C-tier, because nothing fits in the realm of A/B to be competitive with what’s in S.

The fact I can equip a meta build that I’ve got very little experience on and immediately see obvious, huge performance boosts over builds I’ve tuned to the absolute maximum and have spent thousands of hours playing on is only indicative of a massive disparity between the optima and “the rest.”

Because ultimately that’s what makes for a successful PvP game; “the rest” should largely be good enough.

Wow, you seriously think DH traps and Headbutt did more damage than SotM before the nerf?

Do you even know how much more complex SoTM combo was in comparison to those other braindead moves? It was a combination of good positioning so most of SoTM x9 hits could land (you have to go in a kittening straight line), having more than 50% energy so Equilibrium could activate on legend swap and having a weapon swap sigil ready.

And they gutted sword once again without a good reason. Sustain was already subpar so all they had left was those two nails in the coffin.

It’s a problem with everything else being too OP.

But you are also right there, but its clear by now that they are not nerfing those spammed, low skill floor builds anytime soon since they actually even buffed those classes. There’s zero consistency with their balance “team”.

Can’t we admit it has been overnerfed? Is too hard for anet developers admit “we made a mistake”?

Yeah it’s pretty sad how arrogant they have been in regards to this, they can’t even do simple rollbacks cause that would mean admitting a mistake. Watch out ANET, you are dangerously close to being like Bungie is with Destiny, but unfortunately you are nowhere close to having the same amount of blind sheep to keep playing and paying for your game.

It’s not dead because of balance, jeez you sound salty af, it’s dead because they changed the reward system, so the new blood we were getting into PVP was basically cut off, since you can no longer get Ascended Gear easily(You need to have a lot of gold and profession crafting up to 500 now). It translates to not worth the time to many people, nor the headache and toxicity. Now before someone says it was the right decision and true PVPers don’t need PVE rewards, That is a closed and selfish mindset to have. True it’s not needed, for exclusive SPVP players but other players that are invested in Spvp might also play other aspects of the game(Fractals/Raids/PVE/WvW). By having that exclusive game mode player mindset, it’s setting the standard, exclusive Spvp players don’t need nice PVE skins aka dungeon skins, LS skins, etc on reward tracks. You reap what you sow, you don’t want PVERs in your matches enjoy long queues and the slightly less one sided match ups.

Oh so its all about artificial attention to a gamemode (rewards) instead of actual genuine interest and fun. Good job dude.

So the TLDR is that you will just let Revenant die?

The thing is that even the competitive build (Glint/Shiro) is just subpar. You need to seriously give something back to them, sword last overnerf made no sense, so if you won’t give help to its pitiful damage you really need to revert/buff back Shiro and Glint (Energy costs being stupid high right now, unnecessary long cooldowns, less endurance on Shiro nerf, Enchanted Daggers nerf, Boon duration nerf on Glint, Infused light nerfs) including shield which is a suicide choice over axe or even off hand sword.

I thought that Shiro was supposed to be a power Legend, an assassin, but you keep breaking and making it worse.

Why do I make mention of Glint and Shiro? Cause Jallis, Mallyx and Ventari don’t even come close to the weakest builds among all the professions.
So if not even Glint/Shiro is a “decent” choice what does that tell you about Jallis, Mallyx and Ventari?

You seriously expect this Ventari band aid to even work? AGAIN just sit there only using Auto Attack because everything is plagued with high energy costs and on top of that, cooldowns.

Well GJ then, AFK for another half a year until you stop being stubborn.

the whole ‘nerf x class because it’s too strong when stacked’ is really problematic.

if you nerf a class around the assumption that they will be stacked you are going to destroy their solo performance, as these classes are not an issue when it’s just one of them. so nerfing them enough so that stacking them is bad is going to have a big impact on thir solo performances.

i’ve played matches with three druids abd they are absolute nightmares if the druids can play. getting a down is extremely hard, & stopping the res is even harder.
but nerfing druid sustain because it’s strong when stacked would make druid useless when it’s not stacked.

furthermore, the complaints are usually in the form of players complaining about being attacked by multiple players. you should die if 3 members of the enemy team focus you down. currently a single DH really shouldn’t kill you with just traps, but yes 3 DH will. that’s fine. that’s multiple utility skills from multiple players all hitting you, you should die.

a better solution is to remove, or at least limit class stacking.

Let’s be honest here, pretty much every nerf to rev has been PvP motivated since they don’t bother to split balance changes except for a few rare cases.

sPvP has been the greatest single source of classes getting wrecked.

The hammer nerfs and facet of nature were primarily wvw focused nerfs.

And the autoattack DPS, unrelenting assault nerf, staff and phase traversal nerfs, and offhand shield nerfs have all been the result of spvp.

WvW is PvP, btw. Just even more broken since stats are not even capped and consumables are usable.

Auto nerf was pve focused cus “we dont like rev to be autobased in pve”.. and yet here we are, rev is mashing 1 like no tomorrow with no other option whatsoever. Another great example of dev logic. Its get even more ridiculous due to the fact they boosted thief autos by a ridiculous amount cus they want em to keep ini for utility.. LIKE HELLO REV HAS “INI” TOO

Lol exactly what I had in mind, what kind of hypocrisy was that when they overbuffed thieves AA… and kittening again made Rev only viable if the only use AA after the stupid nerf on PS……….
