It is actually really kitten fun (don’t camp legends and then call it boring like most people do) and it’s actually really good for carrying people in PvE, one good example is T4s so dungeons and any other kind of PvE is already really good with revenant.
Definitely not useful for meta/speed runs in raids but outside of that it’s not bad so you should do pretty fine.
I’m mainly referring to power (Glint+Jalis/Shiro) which has way more utility than condi (Mallyx+Jalis).
It’s been good everywhere since 2012, still is right now.
For anyone complaining, do you even know what a sniper is?
To me, the powercreep on this expansion is minimal compared to HoT. It feels like the same game with new shinies.

Yup, don’t play DE then. I’m a Revenant main and I really dislike Renegade so I will keep playing Herald as much as i can. Might finally reroll in fact.

Agreed, never saw someone complain about it but then there are “arguments” like the post before me.
It’s only OP to really bad players because it feeds on their mistakes. Any decent player will just kite you around for 3 seconds.
I was extremely disappointed as well. Maybe it’s not as braindead boring as Core Tyria where I fall asleep with mobs standing still struggling to even just auto attack and the rare telegraphed skill… but still too easy in comparison to HoT. Major turn off.
Both are, they still are incredibly popular classes.
The white knights of thieves are alot in here, how can you defend a class that alone dictates which other classes and builds are viable or not. It’s the most conceptually broken, unhealthy class of the game and the dodges with secondary effects are a big reason.
Yeah none of the buffs made it to wvw/pvp (except for the reworks and those are also tuned down for pvp), might be intentional even though the notes don’t specify it.
Its “power” level now goes accordingly to its ease of use, this was actually a decent patch.

A jack of all trades…..more like a jack of 2 trades due to the legend mechanic. Actually more like a “Jack of 1 trade” cuz you’re gonna be sitting in Herald/Shiro, Mallyx or Ventari depending on your game mode and build; Power, Condi or Healing.

Fractals especially T4 are designed to be the stepping stones for you to get ready to raid.
So lets not dumb this down any further.Also, just going to point out the ongoing comical nature of these forums. It’s hilarious to read the comments from people claiming to raid who cannot do this fractal, its even more comical to read the comments from people who wanted 5 person challenging content….Now that they have it they complain.

Maybe its just me, but from what i’ve seen this just exposes how bad players actually are.
I don’t find anything in the fractal particularly hard or complex, but i’ve seen countless players down/die even when playing things as safe as trailblazers necros all because they refuse to read/perform mechanics.
Personally i wouldn’t change anything about the fractal, keep it like this and weed out the weak.

I’ve lost once again faith in the average intelligence level of people.
I don’t care if people flame me but for me the rewards are fine, what already made me quit again WvW is the terrible balance. Conditions are stupid strong for the little risk they take to use, builds should always go 1:1 with Risk/Reward:
Low Risk/Low Reward
High Risk/High Reward
And currently there are too many builds with Low Risk/High Reward, so yeah the balance is terrible.
And for roaming, there’s almost no class variety. It’s plagued with thieves followed by druids and mesmers.
So for me WvW’s gameplay is just frustrating and boring, fun is more important than “rewards”.

It also doesn’t help the fact that ANET seems to keep incentivizing blobs (which I have always despised).

I still remember this
While it does roots you, it is a long block that also heals you for a large amount. Basically like some of our lower heal skills right now. If you could move while using this skill it’s power would need to be brought down a lot.
This was before the big nerf to healing on each pulse so I’m still waiting for the compensation (Please allow movement while channeling) and lets also not forget about the fake promise on compensation after nerfing Naturalistic Resonance.
And staff is still meta because there is literally no other viable choice, hammer is garbage tier against players with at least a little amount of intelligence.
What I mean is people don’t use shield so it doesn’t matter how you change shield 4 so long as shield 5 is bad.
uhh shield is meta in pvp.
Even axe has a better use, check Frost.

So you main guard… you have any idea how much easier is guard than revenant to pick up and master? Theres a reason why wvw and pvp is still plagued with guardians, revenants have been rare for along time now.

I have said it before, the simple fact that they can dictate which classes/builds can roam or not means that they are stupid overtuned. They can easily delete so many builds from existence.
They totally dominate a whole gameplay aspect of WvW and that’s really unhealthy for the game.
God kitten it, so in the end we actually got the mandatory power nerf that has been happening with each patch… nice meme
It still rewards too much for the little risk it needs.
Curious how noone here mentioned sigil rework. It affected rev more than it did anybody (except maybe fresh air ele, since the air sigil was like 25% of its sustained damage). That’s why power rev is so weak right now, condi still needs work before it will work.
This is true, Power Rev’s burst is non existent right now. Precision Strike does pitiful damage since the last nerf and the same goes for Surge of the Mists. Their sustained damage/pressure is average at best.
What most people never actually knew is that most of Rev’s burst (which wasn’t easy to pull either) consisted of a double Swap Sigil trigger effect (weapon swap + legend swap) combined with Equilibrium (Having above 50% energy before legend swapping which is far from easy when under pressure). At least the class was High Risk/High Reward back then but now it just kept an even Higher Risk but with a Medium Reward.

I can tell that Condi Rev is still pretty bad, much better than before but still bad in general. The buffs only helped with its PvE viability.

As someone who played a very broad spectrum of competetive games for about 20 years i can say CCs arent the issue in this game. We have ways to deal with CCs, like swapping uttis for that extra stunnbreaker etc.
The main issue is the lack balance between risk and reward. A lot of the builds have cheap ways to be succesfull. There is very little build up and skill required in quite a few cases.
“big hits " should require
- Build up. For example: a combo string of landed moves leading to that 1 major dmg move.
- Be relatively hard to hit. A slow big telegraph move for example or a move that has to be aimed precicely.
- Coming from a super glassy build that takes a huge risk getting in to a position to do that dmg.Since we lack the above in quite a few cases the game feels really super shallow. Ppl can run in to pvp and be relatively succesfull by cheesing it. I can hop on a class i dont play a lot…switch to a super cheesy build and kill ppl that played their respective builds for 1000+ hours.
There isnt a competetive game on the market where that is possible.

You realize skill splitting is exactly what we’ve been asking for for ages? Previously they tried to balance across every mode and it’s just not realistic. Yes splitting means you need to know the differences between modes, bit that’s a small price to pay for better balance.
Except it isn’t. A lot of the skills that they have split have later been rejoined. its almost as if they use PvP to test the effects of something and then randomly apply it to other game modes.
This shows they aren’t thinking in terms of true skill splitting.

Nobody gives a flying crap about whether the guy likes revs or not. If he really likes it and it works for him? All the power to him. The problem is when he’s trying to convince OP that rev is a good class that is perfectly welcome in the meta on all levels of pve, because that is a flat out lie. OP is asking whether he should build a rev or a guard. If OP only wants to do open world and low tier fractals only, then sure a rev is a great choice. It does enough damage and since low tier fractal comps are unorganized, they won’t always have a PS warrior. But if he ever wants to join the big boy club and do high tier fractals, then a guard will be a superior choice simply because it is in higher demand than rev. People in high tier fractals are obviously more experienced and have a better idea of what they are doing to make fights go quicker/smoother. This results in a high probability that a party you join will have a PS warrior, druid, and a chrono. Which means a lot of groups will look for elementalists, condi rangers, engineers, guardians, or any other solid dps class/spec that can easily surpass 32K dps compared to a rev’s 26K. And you can really thank raids for this. Ever since people figured out that it is amazing to have perma 25 might, str and disc banners, empower allies, spotter, frost and sun spirits, grace of the land, perma quickness and alacrity, they brought that straight into fractals.

Rev is OK for solo pve.
But if u play in any party that can provide most of the important buffs (not all, most is enough) then rev is the worst class in pve.The dps is rly low (both, power and condi) and other classes can provide more/easier buffs while doing more dps aswell.
Again, this is not true. The Rev can provide all buffs with the exception of the following:
Quickness.
Aegis
RetaliationThat’s it. Rev can provide every other buff (and by buff, I specify here boons. Not including things like GoTL). They can provide and upkeep multiple buffs at the same time, with more ease than any other class. Other classes have to do specific things to get the buff (trait for it, use a skill etc), Rev as a Herald with Glint can passively pulse them and make stacking with others far easier for longer. They can have DPS, CC, Condi clear and block/evades in one weapon (Staff).
That means in a group setting, no other class comes close.
The damage is certainly not low for either Power or Condi, and most classes can’t even reach their top DPS without a specific set-up in terms of other classes, foods etc. You should really not write off the Rev so easily.

Core warrior is fine. Berserker just needs a few tweaks to it, like reducing range on arc divider and also making primal bursts count as T1 adrenaline skills.
This, we really won’t want warrior to become unusable by overdone nerfs (Rev), cause it just becomes a kittening cycle. Tired of so much bad balancing.
