Illusion of Drowning: Changed skill from a multi-hit to a single-hit, increasing damage to compensate.
http://dulfy.net/2014/01/29/gw2-feature-build-skill-and-balance-changes-preview/
This skill bugs since release, hitting already just once instead of multiple times. The damage is therefore extremly low, unlike the number showed in the tooltip. So by “changing” this, will it be like 6 times stronger? Would be a nice buff / fix.
Just wanted to reborn this thread. It is definitly NOT 1/4 sec evade. The full animation lasts longer and I’ve been testing around with this skill for a long time now. I really manage to evade nearly every attack. And I really don’t think that my human skills + internet ping / delay will be able to dodge that good with just 1/4 sec evade time. It is definitly 1/4 sec x 3 since he does 3 small attacks I guess. Was probably the only solution to stack 3 times bleeding within one animation? What ever – it is a great skill to save endurance.
Greetings and welcome!
DE is pretty bad in PvE dungeons since it’s a waste of a slot. You should go for Fury, Sword trait and Mantra damage, since you are most of the time are using at least one mantra (condi cleanse).
Mesmer are awesome in dungeons because:
If you got 3 ISwordmen, IDuellist or IWarlocks out, you are currently dealing the highest damage against a target. Noone will be able to outdamage that. Ever seen critting 25k with IWarlock on Dwayna? <3 (yea open world, still fun)
Well I know how it works now. While your pet is running next to you it generates permanently waypoints wich 90% of the time overwrite the F2 buff order. However if you stay still F2 will be cast. Also if you hit F1 and then F2 it will also allways work, either interrupting the movement or after the next basic attack.
I really love the ranger now, it’s such a great class! <3 Totally underestimated him. However this only makes my hate against Bearbows bigger, want them to kick even mroe
ctrl + 1 = no more chain
The engi is extremly underrated. I bet he deals the same damage or slightly less damage as the ele or warrior, however combined with much more other stuff.
There are very few classes that can compete dmg-wise with eles, engineer is not one of them. Engineer is bottom tier in terms of dps, but makes up for it with their vulnerability stacking and group support.
Seems like you quitted the engi too early, played him wrong or simply quote other nobrainers…
It definitly depends on the situation. If there is just one target, the engy just can grant the vulnerability stacks without overwhelming damage. However he does not really suffer in terms of damage if there are many targets, unlike almost any other class. Noone has a 40k+ DpS against 5+ enemies, except the engi and ele. Deal with it.

I think the only reason why there aren’t any capes ingame yet is because they have to create a system wich allows you to color your back item. I would rage terribly if capes would be in a fixed color …
I’m not talking about the hitbos, I’m talking about the point where shots are gonna be unleashed and are gonna hit you. Since a charr won’t shoot out of it’s knee and an Asura won’t shoot out of it’s head, it makes a difference, doesn’kitten
You won’t get kicked as long as noone knows. And even if someone knows, only fotm 30++ seem to carry about what you are doing (since the instability may cause some real challenge). Better just go full zerker, it outdamages conditions by far!
Engi is pretty underrated. The reason is the same as for the ranger: 99% of the players don’t know what they actually are doing. Examples:
The right answer is: Heal Turret, Grenades, Bombs, Elixier Gun, Pistol + Shield in general. Change skills / weapons for specific situations.
For example a rifle is great for the hold on 2 at for example dredge fractale endboss. However, even if it’s not much difference – since Skill 3 and 5 do hit extremly hard, they are good for AoE, but won’t outdamage bombs cast in this time + an additional blast finisher. Or change to stability or reflection elixiers at harpy frac. Toolkit for Block against Mai etc etc etc.
The main reason to take an engineer is that he will be able to:
The engi is extremly underrated. I bet he deals the same damage or slightly less damage as the ele or warrior, however combined with much more other stuff. The thing is, he is most about passive damge granted by might and vulnerability and by preventing damage. Main damage still great (bomb 1 hits for 4-8k per sec per target). Still, the engineer seems to be the hardest class to play efficient. Press like 3254 buttons for 12 stacks might -> guard presses 1. Still, extremly fun I promise.
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
Supplydrop>Elixier>Racial>Empty Slot>Mortar
pretty much this.
PvE only, I’ve got one for condi damage, one for hybrid damage and about 6 zerker outfits for my beloved Madame Le Blanc <3. Oh and a def tank equip for fotm when I’m spamming mantra heals.
pve or wvw? :o
Ugh this charr is ugly x.X overlegendaried xD
btt: I’m not exactly sure if enemies aim for a lower spot if you play an Asura. I could image it however. This would mean that focus 4 would protect you better than when you were a huge Norn, since it’s a pretty low reflection wall. Never tested it myself sadly.
Aslong as you stay away from dual pistol, hgh rifle or flamethrower in dungeons – you will be extremly strong. The engineer need to hit about 23847892 keys for a decent aoe might buff for example, however he is still able to do it. It’s like you have all the + of every profession in a harder way to use.
You will not miss any damage at lv 80 if you played a warrior first btw
When the weapon update hits, hammer for Engi is so obviously sure incoming as the main hand pistol for the Mesmer. Community want it soooo hard, it’s almost silently confirmed.
PS: agreed
You can go for power crit dmg and precision and use the staff aswell. It’s mainly a power weapon anyway.
Reducing the damage by 10% means reducing the crit damage by 20%~.
Well if a mesmer equips an exotic weapon his phants will deal +5% damage compared to rare. There are testings of this somewhere at the mesmer forum. However WHY this happens – noone knows … 5% aren’t just the stats. Exo to Ascended was 1.5%, wich may have been the stats.
Stats are useless in general – the traits are much more worth. Unless it’s a damage trait. For example traiting into illusions 10 for +3% damage per illusion traits for 100 condition damage. However 100 Precision and 10% crit damage for you AND your phantasms outdamages this by far (just an example). But I would never go for 100 Power instead of 100 Healing power + utility.
To your staff thing. In general the staff is a specific weapon. Just use it for its utility (2 escape) and single target dps (3 iWarlock). All the other skills are pretty … meh.
Sure you get benefits from sigils! That’s why almost noone uses the rifle since 2 weapons means approximately +5% dmg for all your kits.
Sigil of Force, Bloodlust, Battle, they all rock on Ingi.
Berserker – everything else is not viable in PvE as an Engineer.
yup, bombs are awesome – if you see a champ spam them and move in a circle and they die
Well the word “Ranger” has nothing to do with “range” in terms of “distance”. More in terms of a landscape, forest, park, estate, nature reserve, etc. He has more a connection to the pets than to the bow. However btt: :P
To use the bows isn’t that rare. In fact you can do it quite good in a weapon swap. Go for sword + axe + sb for example. This is pretty useful against single targets and if there is a combo field spammer around, like the ele or engi. Use their fire fields to probably outdamage the sword in single target dps. Or at least it’s not wasted dps.
I allways say: Play what fits you the most aslong as it isn’t totally unnecessary. Shortbow + Cave Spider fits already better than a stupid bear Good for bosses due the vulnerability of the arachnid. Just play a little with your ranger again. If you are a ranger in deep soul like I am a Mesmer, everything will fit and you’ll find your way … gosh that sounded gay
And btw: don’t throw away the engi, he requires probably the most skill to be useful of all classes in PvE, but he’s pretty underrated due the same reason as the ranger: Ranger bear +bow = engi flamethrower / rifle / dual pistol. Most seen, pretty useless. If you wish to know more about engi pm me. It’s not my main, but I’ve spent the 2nd most of my time with him.
greez
Actually, aslong as you go for at least:
10/20/0/20/0
you can’t do anything wrong (except for traiting in chaos … don’t do that! ò.Ó)
10/20/0/25/15 and 0/30/0/25/15 (2nd I really don’t like tbh) are pretty much what Pyro said up there. I played them both for a long time, especially the first one.
As for me I prefer 10/30/0/30/0 since I think it’s a waste to trait into illusions. You actually sacrifice too much damage and utility for the 20% cdr on illusion summoning skills. Since you are (at least I am) swapping weapons anyway all the time to proc sigil of battle, it won’t really matter how long the CD’s on your phantasms are. Also inspiration has the best utility traits the mesmer has. Swap them to adapt to the situation, I sometimes even with I could have 4 of them
In the end – pick a build and play your own playstyle – aslong as you do the main mesmer things like timewarp, reflection, pulling, get rid of condition, dps and don’t die – everything is ok dude
Enjoy? With that amount cynicism in that word I just can smile back at you, thinking “Challenge accepted”. Once I have discovered the exact mechanics for those braindeath creatures I shall be able to control them perfectly. And what then? Learn how the pets work, learn how the skills work, keep all the weapons ready, become a good ranger – yea, I’m definitly gonna enjoy this. Everyone gasps when a ranger arrives without a bear nor a sb. :P Hi-la-rous
I wouldn’t say that. It depends. In general don’t bring any class 2 times in a group, except the guard MAYBE. I allways hated on rangers until I’ve met one using Sword/Axe and Axe/Horn. He was pretty a beast.
Rangers aren’t useless, in fact they are kitten strong. However, 99% of the rangers I’ve met / exist are just bear+bow rangers with 0 utility aswell damage and get kicked nearly immediately and hated etc. Don’t become a bearbow ranger, become an efficient, useful, elitist ranger.
Well condition mesmer will definitly deal much less damage than the phantasm mesmer indeed. However the damage isn’t that bad with a good build that grants you 2k condi dmg, staff bounce, etc. Staff clones hit for 1-2k or even scepter 2 for over 10k. It’s not that bad tbh. I wonder if one could play a bunker mesmer in pve with clones to attack and geomancy runes aswell mantra heal spam kitten. Definitly not too bad. You still got reflection etc. Playing with 3 mantras and feedback for example.
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
Well you still got your reflection and pull on 4 wich is still strong. The warden is great IF he attacks. Normally he does, but the problems seem to be big or flying enemies where the warden tries to get close enough to the center of the enemy wich leaves him in a long starring contest…
Even stacked I’ll open with 2 zerkers into warden and sword cleave til the end or if it lasts longer simply sword sword + focus. Taking a GS or staff won’t grant you more dps since the main aoe comes from the sword aa.
Ok I’m getting tired of this T_T my stupid cat almost never does it’s F2! Only if i wait next to it and do nothing I can be sure it works. But wtf – shall I just stay and wait if I engage the enemy!?!? Help me plz, how does this skill not work????
Also, are there any uses for the longbow? It seems like the shortbow is simply stronger since you are anyway never at 900+ range, are you? And the longbows damage seems to be very weak at already medium range… o..o
starring warden vs stationary warden?

Sometimes I ask myself → how <-
You have like 6+ legendaries. wtf…
Anyone has seen a MH axe ranger in dungeons? It’s surprisingly strong tbh. The aa hits quite hard and allows a OH that is quite useful.
So you guys want to deal more damage with grenades if you have a rifle instead of a pistol in your pocket? o.O think about it.
The only thing that should matter is the rarity of the equiped main weapon → ascended = +5% dmg.
confirmed, annoyning, needs fix
What is “max melee range” supposed to be?
I know, I know what your thinking “spirits are so terrible why would you even bother?”
How is the +7% dmg for everyone of the frostspirit terrible? o.O
How can one just play with weapon A and B and nothing else? You don’t have to pick 2 weapons. You have to play with all of them. I play with a sword, a horn and two axes. And if I have to kite → shortbow. Against ranged enemies → longbow. Only torch seems very useless and GS hits less than the sword actually.
Greeeez^^
Soooo after I asked for the build in this forum I started the ranger and I have to admit it’s alot of fun (aslong as you don’t use bearbow). But for now I’ve got a few questions:
Ty already for the answers greez ^.^
huh i know about portal gun, but how is the rifle called? o.o
Well I tried it a whole weekend but it’s a kitten disappointment. F4 is great, but so it is with a phantasm build. Same goes for F3. F2 useless as usual. But the biggest disappointment was F1. Even traiting for it won’t make it stronger. It’s laughtable damage, even if you shatter every 10 sec 3 illusions. Even with some utility at inspiration it doesn’t seem to work. Full mantra dmg? Still less than with phantasms. Sad unhappy ending… snif
Well 25 stacks might, 25 stacks vulnerability, low armor target, banner, bufffood, traits, runes, sigils. 4k aa from rifle 1 means you are ultra buffed, wich also means the bombs would deal like 8k. Just combine the rifle and don’t stay at AA. Ingi AA sux in general.
Underrated class is underrated … obviously.
2 out of 5 skills are control skills, one of them with nice dmg. I would consider the rifle as a Power DPS weapon (and this is why in every powerbuild nearly all rifle skills are weaved in the rotation)
If we are honest to ourselves, the rifle skills in a rotation could be easily replaced by bomb 1.
For screenshots: Buy the infinite potion that transforms you into an air elemental! It costs just a couble of silver and when full zoomed in, it’s too small to be in your picture!
Have a nice day
Greetings everyone!
Since I want to know everything about the Mesmer and I’ve got much more expirience than the last time I tried this, I want to give it another try: Shatter mesmer in PvE!
I’m traited 30 in inspiration for maxxed utility, cuz I love to be the supporting kitten However due the constant switching of my traits to adapt the situations, I’ve noticed some pretty neat shatter utilities:
The last time I tried a shatter build I went a hybrid build, right after it a full condibuild. They both were kinda … cute in terms of damage. This time I want to try a full power build however!
But what are the positive sites of this?
What do you think and how should such a build look like? Where to spend the point and where to save them? Focusing on shatter doesnt mean to ignore phantasms tough. Keep the overallstats in mind.
I tought about something like 0/10/0/30/30 or maybe 0/20/0/25/25? The main problem here is that inspiration and illusion traits grant pretty bad stats tough … Also I wish to have DE and sword traited at duelling, but still keep as much inspiration as I can. I guess 25 or even 30 in illusions is a must have too so … ? 0/20/0/20/30?
Greetings – Xyonon / Madame Le Blanc
Expirience is like a lantern on your back – it enlights everything where you already have been. To improve yourself, you have to make a step into the darkness in front of you.
30/30/0/0/10 – most damage, least utility. Great in open world, “meh” in dungeons, unwanted mesmer in fotm.
10/20/0/25/15 – easy to handle, pretty ok build for pretty much everywhere.
10/30/0/30/0 – best allround build in my option. requires a everlasting changing of traits, even during runs. very flexible, awesome damage for you, your phants and best utility possible.
I want to mention at this point that I play PvE only and I’ve played so many different builds for more than just a couble of hours. I want to learn everything about my beloved mesmer and therefore expirience (even bad ones) has the highest priority. Be not afraid of testing things, the build has to fit for you, not for the elitist!
Still beleve in pistol mainhand :O xD someday :P
A faster aa would be awesome tough.

Take a look at the bottom picture on that page and tell me what you see. We can dream.
Sylvari engineer in medium cultural armor using two pistols.
Just was about to say that :o
For solo pve a rifle build with hgh is viable, for dungeons, it’s rather useless compared to the overwhelming utility and strenght of bombs n’ grenades. Not to mention that they also are better than a rifle only build in open world PvE, but there you can play whatever you want and rifle is ok tough.
If you like the rifle however, I still recommend to go for grenades, bombs and probably an elixier gun. Just use the rifle for 2, 3, 4 and 5 and you’ll be fine. The rifle will also get a minor buff due the patch at march → 2nd sigil slot = +5% dmg~
In PvE btw go full zerker in any case!
