“Mentoring engineers / mesmers and showing you what you can do with your fantastic class!
Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”
You sit there and are just like: “Fire!! … I said FIRE kitteng!!! FIRE ALREADY … aw kitten this s… whut POOF POOF POOOFFERRDIPOFOFFFF wtf is this latency!?”
They fixed that last patch, apparently it had two cooldowns, one global and one per ability, and both were not displaying properly. It’s rate of fire is still slow as molasses but its at least clear when you can fire now.
Well they said so but they didn’t. Still bugs around, and I definitly don’t have lags.

The problem with a condi engi is actually that the playstyle is not really different, just the damage output is very. … yea terrible.
Also many traits (+10% dmg for explosives, +2% dmg per condition, etc) are not affecting damage dealt by conditions.
stay as far away as you can from one puppet. then “spam” the skill until one lands approximately directly between you and the puppet. if it hits go a step back until one won’t. then trait the skill for more radius. try again until it “hits”. if it does the radius has been increased.
Or maybe try it at queensdale where the champion troll appears. there are some spider eggs in the next room wich spawn tons of spiders. throw the mines traited and untraited and check some difference. Or try it with all those caterpillars :o dunno maybe not my best idea.
if i’m home i’m gonna try it too. it’s a toolbelt skill right?
I find it very easy to trait the “stealth = condi remove” thing so a 5 of dd cleanse myself, aswell HiS or F1 sometimes. Do I loose too much damage for traiting there?
I allways wanted red necro spells and sometimes yellow for mesmer or guard. Oh my
Test it at the dummies in lions arch
It’s allways sad to see full sets instead of combined masterpieces :P but it’s still funny. Even if I hate on this legendary xD
btw when I use a skin on that legendary GS will I lose the effect too?
Doing good in dungeons means you’re doing PvE where you never ever should even think about going for conditions!!! Go full Zerk and you will be awesome!
I really support your “medicore but fun” style! → btw pm
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
And how do you handle condition removal?
+1 because I’m an engineer :o
1: What mode do you prefer
PvE
2: How long have you been a thieve?
3 weeks
3: Compared to when you started, how long can you stay logged on to your thieve?
shorter periods, christmas is over :P
4: If you started a thieve now, would it be as much fun as launch?
yes, cuz i just started (2.) I think the thief gains 4 out of 5 stars at the fun factor. 5 out of 5 only had engi and mesmer so far.
5 : Do you Agree with direction of the balance team?
… 3 weeks
This change should only affect PvE!
I know it is stronger in PvP and WvW
“Don’t compare to other classes.” Usual excuse for when one has no arguments. Classes must be balanced with each other, of course we must compare them.
If you say that you simply do not understand what it actually means…
It’s about how you can’t compare a class with another one just by one factor. You cannot compare two blinks with each other for example, nor can you compare mainweapons with other classes.
If you really want to compare two classes you have to compare all the + and – they got and every single skill in the situation they will be used and how the combination overall works. In other words – too complicated as you should give it a try.
Telling me that “you should not compare two classes” is a cheap excuse (wich it obviously isn’t) is actually nothing more than a cheap excuse for “I have no more arguments” itself.
Also, we don’t deal “superior damage”. We can deal some good damage, sure, but as any other class.
Ignoring passive damage? Common mistake.
Best utility? Debatable. Most of our utilities have their effects splitted between the main skill and the toolbelt.
So what? Besides I said “almost the best utility” since there is never a “best” due the fact of different situations. If their effects are even splittet just grants us more flexibility. I’d rather like to have a skill that removes condition and one that removes boons isntead of two in one. And this is what the elixier gun does (e.x). One skill heals, another removes conditions, one can protect, another one is a blast finisher, then there is also a speed buff (even if rarely required in combat) aswell a stunbreaker with heal. That all for ONE UTILITY SLOT!
Turrets are useless when used as turrets – we basically use them just as blast finishers, even the healing one, as they are too fragile to be actually used. Gadgets have long cooldowns for the minor effects they provide – i would say rocket boots is the only decent one, and it required a rework or the skill to get there.
Turrets are ineed just worthless, just the healturret is actually good. But yea – we blow ’em up anyway. And also yes – gadgets are too weak compared to kits.
In the ends, it all boils down to kits – that aren’t comparable to main weapons anyway, but we get away with that just because we can heavily trait them to be decent enough (spending a lot of points on single utility skills).
If you trait one or two of them they are much better than normal weapons. Only take the grenades and bombs wich deal good damage, awesome passive damage aswell grant serval of fields, burst and a finisher. Also condispam for units and traits like iWarlock (10% dmg per condi) or ourselves (2% dmg per condi).
You say that it is fine to have underwhelming basic attack and no weapon swap because we have kits, and you still fail to consider that they are optional, thus balancing the whole class upon them is nonsensical and utter unbalanced if we decide to use the other categories of utilities – as we are supposed to, since they wouldn’t be optional otherwise.
Waaait wait wait … I never said they are optional. You weren’t talking to me tough. I think they are a must have in any build. But I feel like this is how the engi works and should work. Also does ANet (yes they said it like "strong kits for lack of weapon power). This is not even a tiny bit unbalanced. You can take them, so do it. Is it unbalanced to fight with a torch as a mesmer in pve? Is it unbalanced that I feel weak without taking a reflection wall as a guardian if i fight agains projectile spammers? No – but if you do so it’s simply natural selection that you gonna have a bad time.
In the end I think the conclusion is simply: YOU don’t like the engi design and should play a different class then.
That’s not a bug. Some infinite respawn units won’t grant any “on kill” stacks. Like CoF p2 where you have to blow up the door.
It’s to prevent instastack from trashmobs. Also those mobs won’t drop loot.
Had login screen music in CoF -.-’’
So noone can “help” me here Sad … Thief feels surprisingly strong imo. I’ve just seen DD/Shortbow thiefs in my parties. But SP seems to be the way to go in dungeons. Cleave, perma blind, what do you want more?? Why are there only a few left???
Any overnerfs? ö.O
And this is why you shouldn’t compare to other classes. The engi deals superior damage and has almost the best utility in the game. He’s pretty much an allrounder with a massive passive damage boost. You got kits at utility slots yes, so what? Any other class can put 5 skills on a utility slot? No, so its totally op, that’s why we have kittenty basic attacks aswell no weapon swap.
Engi is totally fine he is right now. If you don’t use kits it’s your own problem. It’s like a Mesmer is not using Illusions so… ye
No more PvE thiefs exist ?
PvP feels more like an activity like sanctum sprint etc…
Does it really have to be? I mean it wouldn’t affect PvP or WvW at all, but simply “fixing” some issues the mesmer has in PvE with it’s illusions. It’s obviously a buff, but that’s what we need imo right now. I would let it be where it is.
Also isn’t that trait at Inspiration 5/15?? xD
Did this one on a Post-It at my office at lunchtime of course
It represents my Engineer when he was young <3 Hope you like it ^.^
Is this about PvE or WvW/PvP? I mean PvE even a Necro should go for direc damage.
Hi thiefs! I just managed to reach lv80 yesterday and now I need some answers from more expirienced thief players.
Thanks alot thief friends! I hope I get some answers ^^ greez
Dat coloring x.X However nice idea tough. Another reason to love the mesmer :P
Greez – Just came in my mind a few days ago:
I suggest to change the trait wich grants phantasms retalation after you summoned them. It should grant invulnerability for a few seconds so they wouldn’t just die to an AoE or something. Retalation is anyway pretty weak in PvE, especially for phantasms. This change should only affect PvE!
What do you think?
Is that really your screenshot? :P I’ve seen it already before somewhere …
The reason for 30/30 imo is that the first 30 are a must have for grenades and the 2nd 30 have 2 must have traits called “perma 25 stacks vulnerability” and “perma vigor” with some other 10 points spent. I really would never ever miss either vigor or vulnerability. Maybe if I trait for swiftness on kit switch, so you still can have both with only 10 points but well…
Really sounds nice. However the dodge thing should be a buff wich triggers on next dodge so it’s not allways clear wich one the mesmer is.
Engi has condi remover on heal turret? For the rest of the team the elixier gun. That’s more than enough. The med kit is bugged since it only removes 1 condition istead of all as it says. Kinda sux but still worth takin sometimes.
Shield is by far the best option since offhand pistol sux balls and another finisher rox. Also block and boink pull. Rifle isn’t bad but sadly takes you the adventage of 2 sigils (+5% dmg, +6 stacks might or +250 power). Not worth taking a rifle for 3 and 5 on it over a pistol + shield with much more damage overall. And mainly yes – blast finisher.
Just focus on grenades, bombs, elixier gun aswell healturret in dungeons, you will shine the most this way dealing the highest active and passive damage aswell flexibility is guaranteed.
What I can tell you is to never underestimate passive damage. The damage you deal isn’t the damage you see. And engineers are kinda hiddenop in that point. 50% of the vulnerability in a group comes from you. If the others aren’t traited for it you can still keep the 25 stacks up with bufffood (+40% condi dura dragon food (cheap!!)).
Just to image if you are the reason for even 10 stacks of vulnerability means that if everyone deals 5k DpS, you will deal 2k DpS passive damage via them. And 5k DpS is low, aswell you will be more responsible for about 15 stacks :P
Then there is also the blind passive damage. Everytime you blind a crowd of enemies they won’t hit you or your allies wich means they don’t have to heal, dodge, backup wich they had to do if you weren’t there ? no loose of damage = passive damage from you again :P
But sadly man players just see numbers, especially warriors with their 50k 100blades (wich they obviously couldn’t deal without might and vulnerability from specific sources ;D). However, the intelligent one is angry against those warriors, but the wise one just smiles at them.

@Treborlavok.3504
I hope you read the whole thread. This thread is about PvE too where glass cannon is the only right thing to do :P
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
PvE? Zerker. Since you are not that rich I recommend to farm CoF and CoE.
I’ll be honest, I skimmed the post but I think I got the point. And no… Just no, engi is one of the strongest classes pvp right now and they are just fine in pve. Sure the CoF war, guard, mes combo still reigns on high but realistic engi does very well in dungeons.
I even bet that a engi in a team increases the dps if you pick a warrior away. Pretty sure tough.
bump >_>
Time and place, yes. Most of the time in almost any place bombs, grenades and the elixier gun grant the best damage, utility and survivablity. Ofc you’ll take the heal turret and Pistol + Shield mainly. Mainly means in general but not all the time. For example CoF p2 at the bombs I use the healkit for more speed and condi remove. Or at uncategorized fractale you’ll switch the elixier gun and bomb kit maybe with reflection and stability elixiers.
Grenades and Bombs grant the highest damage and tons of cc and conditions. You will be able to cause blind very often wich prevends damage, you’re gonna keep vulnerability at 25 stacks no matter what, you will have the ability to keep up 9-12 stacks might for the whole team.
There are allways exceptions but you will never be useless with a build focusing on those kits. However sd builds may feel strong for themselves aswell flamethrower, but the reality is that they are dealing like 0 passive damage and aren’t preventing much damage nor granting much cc.
Why no Pistol? Building for Pistols is a bad idea cuz 1 deals minor damage wich is not worth increasing it. 2 is a good filler aswell 3 for some single target burst n cc and condition spam. But pistol 4 isn’t worth casting since a single bomb outdamages it, and 5 is rather useful due the fact bomb 5 is the same with double area. A shield grants you another combo finisher for more heal / migh and 3 defiant remover + block and reflection for hard times. Image dredge fractale for example for interrupting endboss. Or harpy again. Anyway I still got a 2nd pistol in my bag aswell a rifle. There are allways “those situations” :P
Be flexible, and this is what Kits are
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
He asks for a good build, I told him one. I tested myself tons of engi builds, aswell SD and FT, but they just deal semigood dmg compared to B,G,E. If I got a engineer in my group that attacks with pistol basics and builds up some turrets in fotm 30+ I’ll ask him to change his minds cuz he’s rather useless for the whole team compared to how strong he could be
.
also become a friend of allrounder support elixier gun
Just DON’T go for a flamethrower, double pistol or turret build in PvE …
I strongly resent that good sir. Doctor Beetus runs a turret sd build.
in PvE …
:3
For PvE open world discharge builds are pretty good, they make you a solo beast, however in dungeons bombs n’ grenades and the elixier gun are almost a must have. You are able to grant 9-12 stacks permamight aswell 25 stack vulnerability. Best bomb 1 crit I’ve ever had was about 8k <3 and its so spamable aswell hits 5 targets <3 <3
And don’t be aware to change skills and adapt to the enemy. Sometimes you will be unable to use a kit anyway, don’t waste the slot and replace it with something useful.

Indeed. Engineers have so many kits and awesome skills they rarely even use the 1 button, except for bombs or maybe grenades. Most other 1 skills are pretty ineffective.
PvE, PvP, WvW? :o
Unfortunately the class is balanced upon the use of kits, even if they are theoretically optional (and yes, our main weapons are weak by design). So…yep, just use kits.
Just the aa sux. All other skills are normally pretty useful.
why not 10/30/0/30/0? o.o
A long time ago I played a game wich had very unique weapon skills, especially on the pistols. The gameplay was extremly fun too, but lets just take some ideas because i think it fits very well to the mesmer:
Pistol 1:
Rotation 1/2 sec: Shoots a bullet that deals damage.
Rotation 1/2 sec: Shoots a bullet that deals damage.
Rotation 1 sec: Shoots a bullet that deals damage and puts a “butterfly mark” on the enemy.
Pistol 2:
Instant 1/4 sec: Shoots a fast bullet that triggers the butterfly marks and causes additional splash damage and creates boons on nearby allies. (nearby on you or explosion?)
1 Butterfly: low damage, grants 2sec vigor
2 Butterflies: medium damage, grants 1 sec aegis
3 Butterflies: high damage, grants 6 sec 3 stacks might
at 0:28 you can see the charged attack wich represents skill 1 and how it should stick to the enemy and then how it blows up.
Pistol 3:
Something like the charge of:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTmffUCZhtc
Pistol? The whole weapon design in this game is by far the most terrible point of GW2 There are only a few acceptable weapons tbh.
open world sword focus and greatsword is recommended. dungeons won’t benefit from gs since range =/= boons = low dps. also sword vulnerablity is just amazing.
general meta is sword focus + sword sword or sword pistol. adapt to the situation however.
I guess you are talking about PvE? Use the sword as much as you can. It has a much higher DpS compared to the scepter. Also it cleaves wich means it hits 3 enemies at once. It stacks vulnerability wich makes it one of the strongest basic attacks in dungeons for the team with nice passive damage. Also has a “oh-kitten-button” (2).
Scepter is for dangerious enemies where you need the range. This is pretty rare, I just can think of the rifle dude in Caudecus Manor to block his knockdown basic attack and meatshield with clones.
I use it underwater (PvE) since there isn’t really a better skill :o
Are you guys sure about this? I’ve never tested it deep but I know it from the Mesmer.
Phantasms aren’t affected by the weapon you wear, just by the minor stat boosts, however (!) it seems there are some hidden boosts once you equip an exotic weapon. The damage between common and rare equip is minor, but once a Mesmer equips Exotic+ he gains a 5% damage boost on phantasms. There were testings on this and I rarely beleve in such things but it seems to be true so I ask myself if kits have this little boost too at exo?
