You never fail to surprise me killcannon.

Sorry to say, someone is demonstrably wrong. I love how people have zero experience with MMO’s but feel free to comment on them like they have some sense of innate knowledge.

They loved a single player, sometimes cooperative RPG. They simply lack any kind of real experience for what makes an MMO an MMO. They want their co-op rpg experience back. Sorry to say, that genre died. No one wanted to play it. That’s why they didn’t make GW2 like GW1. If it was sooo popular and soooo great, why isn’t it still relevant? Because it wasn’t. It was niche. Niche can be great, and GW1 had a passionate following. But it’s time is gone. There is a reason those types of games aren’t being made by the dozens.

People can stoke that little flame of nostalgia as much as they want, they can pine away moaning that this game isn’t some mediocre co op rpg that belongs to an age long past, they can attempt to sound knowledgeable by spouting catch phrases and jingoism, but it doesn’t change anything.

This game isn’t and will never be GW 1.5

Be as bitter about it as you want. Try to tear it down, not because it’s a bad game or has flaws, but simply because it doesn’t live up to the precious ideal of a game that lived past it’s time. I’m glad GW2 didn’t follow the tired mechanics of the past. I’m glad it has become it’s own game.

Accept it or don’t. Try to blame others because you don’t enjoy it. Try to blame marketing for your own shortcomings. It’s an MMO, and it’s here to stay.

Both companies don’t know it yet, but NCsoft and ArenaNet are the downhill slopes of lost customer loyalty and negative word-of-mouth advertising.

Wow, but you know this. All they have is income reports detailing what people are spending money on. All they have is customer support records that tell what people are contacting the company directly about. All they have is facebook and twitter accounts that track real-time as well as forums. Shame they don’t know what direction the game is heading.

Paperwork does only so much. Word-of-mouth can be the poison or the divine elixir of any company. Unless a company acknowledges that this poison/elixir exists while addressing it at face-value, the company will end up tripping itself for the worse.

Bad products breed bad reviews. Bad reviews turn off potential customers, one of those things that keeps a company alive and well.

Fine, where are the bad reviews? Are they in a place that more than 5 people read? Are they done by someone who is just p.o.’d that the game was not what they dreamed of? Are they reasonable problems the company will change, or are they things that require a complete wipe of the current game? Are there any reviews that are positive and if so again are they in front of a wide audience or preaching to the choir?

Slightly off topic something got to me about giants. I was looking at norn cultural armour when I spoke with an Jotun NPC beside jormags claw/tooth hanging in the main hall. He was talking about how the Jotun and Norn are giants. So in theory every time you kill one of these (any jotun and sons of svarnir) you are in effect killing a giant as well.

Sure but each creature can only count in one time. Jotun have their own category as to Son’s of Svanir, the only norn you can kill. Orrian giants count as risen.

I think Anet is going to have to add a bunch of giants at some point or lower the requirement for the achievement.

I know, the risen thing has always been a pain when doing the different kills for daily. Would be interesting if they could be cross referenced.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They will need to add entire maps for the areas to add in the other dragons, so they will most likely only be added with expansions.

Jormag is further up in the Shiverpeaks
Primordus is underground
Kralka-whathisname is in the Crystal Desert
And “Bubbles” controls the oceans so he will most likely come with the Elona (or hopefully Cantha? Cmon devs, pretty please?) expansion.

There will be no expansions, which leads me to believe there will be no dragons.

Let’s face it, with everything said, people want to play WoW(or any other MMO that hey liked) in new skin. People don’t want new experience because they are condition by their first MMO they loved. It’s only logical, and honestly it’s quite a shame people act like this. I feel sorry for Anet devs since they are really trying to cater to everyone while trying to bring new ideas and inovation into pretty stale genre. And this is what I hate the most, people say how they hate WoW, but every feature I see that people want is exactly like in WoW.

Just want to say, ANet I really hope you can pull of this idea, it’s really great concept, but you need to show them(players) that jan, feb, march, april, may updates were just testing phase.

You’re right. I want a game with an open world, where racial politics are at the forefront. I want a game where my class role matters. I want a game that has a large amount of content that I can come back to. I want a game a where I can play with more than 5 friends. I want a game where factions matter.

I’m tired of this game being in a testing phase. I want it to be an MMO and I’m tired of ArenaNet’s defiance towards the standards. They can do their own thing, they can create the living story. That’s fine. But make it worthwhile. I’m not playing a game to fix sign posts.

If you are so tired then maybe it is best to find a game that you like.

15k Achievement Points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yargesh.4965

Yargesh.4965

This was posted when it was possible to get unlimited points from dismantling items. There is now a limit to how much you can get, and those who got more then the limit had those points removed. This was all done several months ago and bringing this dead thread up is not useful in any way.

Seriously 15k achievementpoints a few months ago?

*I’m bumping this up as the achieventpoints finally get put to use. *

2 achievment-points are given each 250 salvages, so removing the usual 4k achievementpoints from that time we’d be at around 11k you did trough a repeatable task. 11.000/2*250 = 1.375.000 Million items salvaged – really!?! Even using the lowest amount of 15 copper for each item that would cost around 2062,50 Gold.

Really?!?

We have so far seen a content delivery system being tested. If it works out the way the company hopes, always an if, then they will put big content mixed in with small transient content. If after they slide the first bit of big content in with the living story arc people can’t accept this as a good strategy (ie stop putting money into the game) then they will bundle the rest of the large content as an expansion.

Level cap: if increased, what are the impacts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yargesh.4965

Yargesh.4965

I don’t really see the need for higher levels. I won’t get upset if they add them, just the way the game is set up adding new levels is kind of superfluous. My thinking is that with scaling you always have a reasonable ability to complete any content at 80. If they added a meta that needed to be completed to enter new areas it would do exactly the same thing as bumping 10 levels. Plus they would not need to go through the annoying re-balance of everything to take into account that increase in just about everything, this is the power creep that should be avoided.

Raids and housing coming to GW2!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yargesh.4965

housing in games always reminds me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x_QkGPCL18. Real life also reminds me of that but games even more so.

Yeah true I read the translation but then again. Now with Wildstar (even that there housing is not that great) and Archeage around the corner they can not really stay behind. Might be the stuff that needs to be put in the first expansion.

I don’t think that housing would fit in with GW2, because it would serve no purpose. I mean look at how Dragon’s Prophet did it – their PvP is for territories where players with their guilds can build houses and impose taxes upon each other. That makes everyone want to win and get territories for their guilds.
GW2 doesn’t have flying platforms that we could compete for (hell we don’t have anything to fly on, so flying territory to fight for is out of the question), the only open spaces on the Tyria map are probably zones already reserved for something so we couldn’t compete for those, that would mean that if GW2 did introduce player housing it would be an instanced place that only you and your friends could see (like Runescape), which is boring.

The Profession with the highest skillceiling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yargesh.4965

The Forum Warrior has the highest skill ceiling, with all the other classes not even close.

Forum Warrior’s have to delicately balance their trolling to perfection so as not to be perma-banned from the forums, while also maintaining a steady stream of posts that cause damage-over-time. Besides, no other class in the game faces the possibility of perma-death, so this alone makes the Forum Warrior the hardest class to play. So while it’s true that the Forum Warrior has the highest dps with his condition spamming dot spec, his dps requires a glass cannon build with very little room for error.

If they do that, I’m gonna cancel my subscription.

I think what he mean is that you don’t have to buy the main game, it can be downloaded for free (yea, wrong words used).

Since GW1 never went this route I seriously can not see GW2 ever being completely free. It is currently a workable model that ANET is using. Until sometime in the future someone gets a completely free downloadable game that has no gem shop to be profitable I can’t really see the need to change it.

The problem is that it is impossible to be unbiased. I personally have zero problem with hunter in PvE, have killed easier on it than just about any other class. The only classes I don’t have at 80 (have not started them) is warrior and engi. I have no desire to really try either until a new area opens up. Theif I do not enjoy, but I also do not enjoy guard that much. Love mesmer and ele is fun. Can I play perfectly on any of them? Not a chance, since I am not looking for perfection whatever that actually is.

I think it is a good idea to keep the living story. They have posted that things are going to be added as permanent content (dungeons will be incorporated into fractals was the last I heard about it) and the arc of the story will continue.
I personally have liked and not liked various parts so far with the last my least favourite due mostly to the carpet bombing at the end of the current dungeon. That coupled with jumping puzzles being key to the achievements and I have done 2 of the achievements and will not do any more with this arc. Does that mean I hate the concept, not a all.

Guild Wars 2 and Failure

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yargesh.4965

Yargesh.4965

This is a game but also a business. Since it is a business the definition of failure that matters is if it is profitable. When a game is released it has about 3 months to hit target numbers, these numbers would vary from game to game. GW2 hit those targets and exceeded them. At the next interval the game needs to increase revenue through whatever means, again GW2 made those targets.
This can be seen by first there where no layoffs or ‘re-organizations’ after 6 months. Second they are still looking for new staff. And more importantly since it is a public company their own published profit broken down by division. As long as the targets are met this game is a long way from a failure.
Since this is a game and sold purely on entertainment if people are not interested, not telling friends, and not buying things with outside money it will not meet its targets. If you want to be a doomsayer that is fine but realize you will be ignored by the company since the internet and specifically game forums are full of the same thing.

Wtf is a “toon”

Short for cartoon, which is what it looks like.

You hit the proverbial nail on the head. When I hear someone cal their character a toon I instantly think they been playing “Toontown” or “WoW” since they are cartoonish. I have always called my character just that a character and I have been gaming since the 70s.

I have been playing a long time as well and always used to call them my avatar but people didn’t understand, so I use toon or character.
