Put a chest in each of the 4 side events and leave the queen reward the same. That would be a good draw. The problem also seems to be the speed required for removing the 4 blocking events and how fast they come back after the queen is killed.

I must be doing something wrong. The new AoE autoloot doesn’t work for me, and yes, I have it enabled. I don’t have it bound to another key, it is still ‘F’. When ‘Search’ comes up, and I hit ‘F’, it only picks up one loot. What is amiss?

You need to use it when there is nothing up to interact with, that is why I have bound it to another key. Not a very intuitive design.

They have already posted that the skills are being split between the different areas (sPvP, PvE and WvW). What that means will be seen in a few hours time.

That lately or a past quote by the devs?

The last dev livecast I am sure they talked about it. I also thought I saw the first of this on the last update where there where skill changes, they seperated the pvp and pve descriptions.

2 one handed when swapped for a 2 handed is strange, one will go to the protected box and 1 will go to the first empty slot. Don’t really think it is too much or a hardship though. Calling it useless is not very helpful.

Gear grind does not bring in new players though. It drives some players away, keeps some current players slightly longer and some hooked like a fish. The target for the company is fresh box sales and gems, not gems bought with online gold. If they keep players on a treadmill that means that players get gold from in-game which from a business standpoint is not a win.
They in my opinion will not put this in the game.

I would have agreed with this statement 7 months ago, but since they did actually add gear progression already…it’s sorta moot. The same thing was said with the addition of ascended gear when it was released, the game didn’t die, they didn’t remove the gear to get back any players who said they were going to leave (most in fact did not) or remove it because they all of a sudden started losing players. Ascended gear was a good move for the game overall apparently. They keep adding more.

The company has stated that the items where to be in the game anyway. Ascended was a planned item that was implemented poorly. My biggest problem with this game is poor implementation, but overall I am very satisfied with it.

Played another MMO for 10 min. back to GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yargesh.4965

The kind of games I could see harming GW2 would be one with similar combat and content mechanics (action based combat with dynamic dodging, no fixed trinity roles, dynamic events, level downscaling, etc…) but with a more “serious” tone to it. Some content in GW2 is, no offense meant, quite ridiculous. Back pieces come to my mind as prime examples… quaggan packs, tentacles, etc… those new hats in the shop are also not very “serious” looking either. All those things are (for me) quite immersion breaking, but thankfully they aren’t very popular in my guild and I rarely do pickup groups so I can ignore them most of the times.
If another game offers the same great gameplay and open world in a more “serious” and “darker” setting, I will most likely consider it. So yeah, if ESO copies the best of GW2 while ignoring the “my little pony” style fluff content, it will be a serious contender for the position of “main MMORPG” for me, no matter how much I enjoy all the other GW2 features. There’s just too much “silly” stuff sometimes compared to the more “serious” stuff.

This is more realistic. Some game will come out and compete more directly with gw2 and some people will move on.
But this crap of utterly destroying gw2 in one fell swoop on launch by another MMO is just ridiculous. Like so much of the population swarms to a new game that Anet shuts down gw2.
Its stupid to place that much hype on an MMO thats not even out yet and that noone can play. If anything it hurts the new MMO’s more than gw2. By the time we play them, they are so over hyped in our mind that they are disappointing when we finally play them.

Reading these forums and you will find many who only read the hype about this game. They are the ones fixated on the manifesto that came out long before the game was ready for even beta. The team behind the game had the machine going for years before a playable game was released. Hype is just that, if you refuse to dig even a little under the surface you will be very disappointed. I was actually put off by the hype for a long time. I am very pleased with the game that was produced however.

To expand a little. The person who wrote the comment and then deleted it calls every single person who does not explicitly write they hate the game a fanboy. You must write that you not only hate the game but have hated the game for x months. Also saying you came back from hating the game to hate the game more is a bonus.

Wait, why are we arguing about what people call each other on the internet?

One of the deleted posts in this thread, was a warning about incoming fan boys. That’s what I was originally responding to. That post is actually gone but it was here. So someone (I won’t say who) was pre-empting everything said against the OP, simply because he agreed with the OP.

Even if it became hugely popular it would not ‘kill’ anything.

1. We’re getting events EVERY month. It’s not just dragon bakitten’s also the other 2 living story parts, sab and holiday events.
2. Full trait overhaul coming for every class on June 25th. I’m absolutely sure that that takes a lot of man power.
3. Someone is forgetting WvW/Spvp updates, guild missions, fractals, new jumping puzzles, new cinematics for the story and other things that we constantly get.

Quality > Quantity
These updates have been sub-par so far, with the exception of the Molten Alliance Phase 2 & 3 updates.

I loved southsun phase 1, phase 2 was so so. I have enjoyed the story so far about the aerblade or whatever the spelling is. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds. The festival so far has been standard festival fare, some love it some hate it, I am in between.

They plan on milking the name of Guild Wars for all its worth until the playerbase shrinks beyond profitability. Waiting for ANet to die hard so they can learn from their mistakes the hard way.

Hate to tell you but the old player base of Guild wars is probably not a majority of players of this game. I could be wrong. Even so I still would not expect this team to only look back, never try to create.

You’re right it isn’t. As a game developer I would consider that a major flaw in a product I create. Your statement only supports mine.

The thing is you are not the game developer.

That is where you are wrong, evil ally of Vayne. On the internet, everybody is a game designer. I know more about the intricacies of the game and I possess more information about the demographic and the playing habits of Guild wars 2 players than any of you real designers. I understand that, increasing a skill effectiveness simply means bumping up numbers here and there. Fixing animation only involves changing the numbers a little.

I am having trouble pegging where you are coming from, keep it up. Seriously.

Developers aren’t players and players aren’t developers. They actually take completely different sets of skills. Saying a developer doesn’t play the game well is sort of pointless.

It’s like editors who can’t write. Many editors because editors BECAUSE they can’t write. But that doesn’t mean they can’t edit.

You are 100% wrong. It’s more equivalent to a car designer not getting in their new vehicle and testing it and understanding limitations and flaws. And then saying that it’s comfortable for everyone to drive, when they are 5’7" and many buyers are 6’0" or greater and find it extremely uncomfortable.

Or in other words … if people over 6’0" (whatever that non-metric nonsense means) buy your car en masse, you mismarketed your car.

If they play specifically to check something that was tagged as a bug they are there and gone. If they are doing it on their spare time it will be a toon that will be without a company tag so they can enjoy themselves.

GW 2 #1 mmo of 2013

Yargesh.4965

Then you have games like Guild Wars 2, which I enjoy, but still uses RNG in lock boxes, and arbitrary achievements and temporary content to keep people logging in.

Of them all, Guild Wars 2 is the best solution for me and my style of play…but it’s far from perfect.

I have to say that even pay-to-play MMOs are among the cheapest forms of entertainment, hour for dollar. Consider other games that cost like $60 and you spend a rainy weekend or two playing them, reach the end of the game and either play everything over again on harder mode or set it aside and buy another. Cable/satellite tv with the premium packages can run over $100 a month, my Rift sub was $100 a year.

And, yes, sometimes the free games kind of push you towards pay content, but if you just log in once in a while to relax and aren’t a “gotta keep up with the Jones family next door” type person you don’t ever have to spend a penny on them.

And for an absurdly low price they throw new content at you on a semi-regular basis, other games might get two or three downloadable updates which combined cost as much as another game.

I’d say it’s a pretty good deal, all things considered.

Well said sir, it is a great deal. I have always looked at MMO subs as the best form of entertainment. 50 cents a day for unlimited entertainment, or go see a movie for $20…hmm…choices…. :P

Except those 50 cents easily double considering most people simply can’t play every day. Quadruple that if you take into consideration that everyone goes on holiday, has kids, has exams or needs to go away for business once in a while. A month not played is a month still paid. That’s a huge pet peeve I have with subs for games … I simply can’t play every day, therefor breaking it down to cost per day is meaningless.

To compare MMOs to one of the most expensive forms of entertainment per hour is a false argument. At least going to the movies is usually done with friends or significant others, while people who sub to MMOs are notoriously anti-social.
Honestly, the 30 to 100 euros I tend to spend every weekend on good food and a nice party is better spent than the 15 euros I used to spend on subs.

I absolutely agree with marnick here.
