Just because you can’t fight a thief? Sure we will get this forum renamed to something more along the lines of “QQ here if you can’t do anything better than faceroll”.
If you want more constructive feedback, go to the thief forums and ask. There are alot more thieves who want more people to learn so when you get better you can come back to our forums and tell everyone that we are a joke to fight.
Refer to the second link in my siggy and don’t worry you are not alone in that boat. >.> What matters is you gtfo that boat.
We have a but_hurt filling.
- Anet working on the overall game and not just living story.
- Anet testing everything themselves instead of asking 4 randomly selected (possibly biased) people what needs to be worked on.
- Anet making GW2 enjoyable for everyone and not just the people who own high end graphic cards/processors and fat wallets.
…. Once we blow that, we have to jump OOC and stealth ourselves so we dont die until we can jump back Into combat. ….
talk about bias. Thief can stealth? you forgot??
Looks like it :P
/sarcasm
I liked Death Blossom more the way it was in Guild Wars 1. A shame that awesome skill got such poor treatment.
I for sure would not cry at all if it became again a pure power spike AoE damage skill and lose the evasion it has.
I like it as it is. If they made variants, putting a high damage/low condition replacement would be nice.
Dodging/Stealth is your main source of survival. I use dodge happy builds because nobody has complained about them yet.
As a guy who plays on a budget laptop, I disagree with you on everything being “perfectly crafted”. All jumping puzzles really are is a clump of object put together in a way that you can jump to a normally unreachable place. I don’t mind that it is lazy but WHEN THE ENTIRE GAME IS LIKE THIS its really disappointing to look at.
I understand that I am on a laptop with an APU (which sucks). Lag and loading issues are to be expected but it isn’t like I can just go out and get a better computer because unfortunately I am broke and jobless. This does, however, allow my computer to figure out whats causing the lag. It is the kittenloads of objects I have to process constantly.
Picture of what I am talking about will be at the bottom. Excuse the crude edits. I was kitten ed off at the time.
It’s just that Thief went to faceroll&win to a profession which needs skill to be played effectively.
That’s why people are whining. They want to keep facerolling.
I just want them to shut the kitten up.
Best class for ganking yaks. Best class for scouting. Yippiee.
If you spec for more dodging you can definitely use Signet of Agility to double the amount of dodges you have. I know I use it on my d/d condition build. Its near constant dodging so I normally feel a little more comfortable bringing it along.
I see what you are saying.
I propose kittens. On vanishing, a load of fluffy little kittens with huge eyes is spawned and starts sitting around the opponent, gently meowing and brushing against their legs and such.

ono
Kittens are distracting and evil. Great idea!
Or you could put everything you gather in collections.
I just wanna know. With the buff to Signets of Power, I would think signets would be the way to go to enhance damage. I definitely use SoM, SoA and SoS on my build and i like combining Signet Use and Signets of Power just to make my signets even more awesome.
So, with the current buff to Signets of Power will you be using them more?
First of all, Signet of Power DID NOT get buffed. It was 10s duration originally.
Second, the cooldowns on the signet is just too long to be worth it
Lastly, the activated effects are lackluster and not worth losing the passive effect.
Even when Signet of Power was just 5s duration, the only use of this Trait is to stack Might before killing something in 5s. Extending the duration doesn’t really change this because after delivering the killing blow, the Thief is a sitting duck without defensive utility skills and it’s not healthy to stick around for another 5s.
TL/DR; The “buff” didn’t really buff anything.
I get the feeling you are refering to builds that rely on Backstab to down players in 1-3 hits. Relying on signets to burst down single targets is, in my opinion, a bit impractical. That is why this thread is meant to discuss overall use instead of in specific builds.
As for the stack duration, I wasn’t here to see it was 10s before it got reduced to 5. That just means Anet removed some nerfs which is expected when looking at their track record.
Back to my original question: Will you be using Signets more?
Mesmers should be able to choose bacon in place of butterflies. Bacon is mesmerizing and invokes emotion within everyone making it proper for mesmers to use such delicious skills.
My feelings about Celestials have a little bit of everything mixed in.
But no condition or boon duration.
Nah those don’t count.
If I stand there and spam /cry while you kill me will that make you feel better?
My feelings about Celestials have a little bit of everything mixed in.
First of all i would buyout ArenaNet from NCsoft and give them full independence to what they create.
i have a bad news for you.
Anet claims continually to be really independent on GW2.
So they are the only responsible for any success or failure.
But NCSoft is the one who gives them any money.
Welcome to the Permanent Diminishing Return Club!
I am at that point where I don’t need stealth or zerk to kick someone’s kitten . Thief is and will always be fun for me (so long as my new mesmurrrr doesn’t become as fun).
EDIT: Title changed for more clarity.

Nothing will ever open a crappy player’s eyes except for hardcore ownage.
Signet of Malice is absolutely op if you use it right in pve……
I can vouch for this. I use it all the time in PvE. :D
The only thing that bugs me is that their neck makes up 50% of their body.
Yes, we are all bad because you cannot counter the single most predictable class in the game.
I think you are projecting.
When did he say he couldn’t counter a warrior?
Any profession with a rotation is predictable.
Stealth always up, never die because I can’t faceroll what I can’t see.
fixed*
Prep for consta-dodge nerf
lmao. no way, dude.
Use stealth-heal at full HP. Press Dagger 1 on someone.
Then heal again if youre going to die.
If you really believe its that simple then maybe you should try that on WvW.A thief who opens with Hide in Shadows is a terribad thief.
Depends, if the target is alone and unaware of your presence, you can use Hide in Shadows to get closer and burst him down.
Healing @ full health = stupid. It doesn’t matter who you are.
By the time you kill that guy and find someone else the skill would be recharged, and you don’t open up with it for the healing, but for the stealth. Even a complete kitten could see that.
You’de be right a majority of the time if we were talking about zerk vs. zerk. Zerk vs zerk doesn’t exist all the time though. Lets say the guy was more tanky then you thought and/or what if your backstab didn’t crit (which is what gives it it’s power)? You just burned your heal and you are Revealed as well. So unless you got a plan B for the next 3-4 seconds you are dead.
So moral of the story is CC/AoE/stand in the black powder circle and hurt thief and/or force a reveal.
Or you can dodge through it with uncatchable. :3 Taint their comfy circle with pricklies.
All I saw was you kittening around and getting killed. You made no attempt to flush her out. You made no attempt to force her to face stab so she may reveal herself.
2:30 of you dancing around pretty much told her you were kittening with her, so she waited for you. The moment you got close enough she blinded you, followed you in the wide arch you made and landed a backstab that put you on your kitten .
Yes, it is your fault for getting complacent while using zerk. It is also your fault for not turning sharply to make it harder for the backstab to land. Not only that, it keeps a backstabbing stealth thief in a small area 9 times out of 10. You could have hit them and possibly lay down some cripple.
Honestly, I always appreciate a critique of my play style. I do like it when folks offer suggestions of how I can improve.
I suppose you’re right. I suppose I could have just swung my sword in the air over and over and over like an idiot hoping to see the combo chain. I “could” have hit the thief and “possibly” lay down some cripple. Obviously that would be entirely lucky as I didn’t see her within any proximity of striking distance from 00:15 until she killed me at 2:50 and, after all, she could easily dodge my attacks in stealth. I suppose I could have swung my sword repeatedly for over 2 1/2 minutes, “possibly” hitting her at most one time while he/she is regenerating health in stealth, of course.
It would have been pretty funny to him/her I’m sure if I was swinging over and over in thin air, sharply turning back and forth in a tight area, all hoping to mitigate a backstab and possibly hitting him/her, when in reality he/she is several units away, in stealth. I wouldn’t know, of course, as I can’t see him/her. I would just be guessing.
And that’s the point. It’s just too easy for a D/P thief to stealth over and over and over and over again whenever they please. There is no cooldown for this type of play style. You think players enjoy simply swinging in mid-air, hoping that they may lucky and actually hit a stealthed player, all while running back and forth using tight turns, when the thief could simply just back up, and do the whole BP + HS combo all over again with minimal to no risk. How many times does someone have to swing at thin air, running back and forth before it becomes stupid?
I know what you mean by the constant stealthing. Regardless of stealthing, that’s why I preach cripple. That 50% running speed will neutralize their Fleet Shadow if they have it. It will keep them that much closer so you can melt them faster.
Secondly you do not have swing at the air like a kitten. Uncatchable is a good tool in TvT fights. Stealth heavy builds will have the hardest time running away when constantly crippled. You can use this to chase them.
The last few times I did this, the thief I was chasing ended up burning all of their stealth options and started relying on Black Powder > Heartseeker crap. Now I understand running through the BP circle will blind you but at least you have a good chance to force a Revealed. That’s what I do anyway. It’s just basic brawling from there.
OMG! Highest burst class has highest burst! NERF IT!
OMG! Highest combat mobility class has highest combat mobility! NERF IT!
Thief isn’t letting me faceroll him down! NERF IT!
Thief not staying still! NERF IT!

Thief has the highest skill ceiling. You absolutely cannot do rotations or facerolls with this profession. Thieves have the highest risk vs. reward if you plan on doing glassy stealth builds. Thieves are squishy and require abusing one of their two survivability mechanics to even last in a fight.
Secondly, the best way to kill a (really) good thief is to play a thief and learn their stratagems (if listening to direct advice fails).
Any thief can be a stealth-humping coward. What separates them from good thieves is all dependent on how they execute and adapt. A great thief, however, will win regardless.
LOL I can’t tell if you’re serious or what.
LOL I can tell that you have no clue.
Here’s the video.

Guys, the OP is asking for the highest skill ceiling. Not “Which class is hardest to do well at”.
What he wants is “which of the eight classes has the highest potential when played at the maximum level” (or simply ‘which is the hardest to master’)
On an off topic note my Thief is face-roll in WvW, contrary to what Zacchary said. I know a lot of people will dismiss his claim as ‘oh Thieves are so easy to do well at’ (which is true) but that’s not the question.
:C I don’t like how you worded that.
“Doing well” with a thief != being a shadow-humping coward imo. Anyone can Shadow Refuge and run away but it takes a little know-how to counter it. That’s when I learned how hard you could screw a fleeing thief over with cripple. Because of it I have not lost to another thief except for one in sPvP when I forgot to finish retraiting myself.
:| I didn’t realize it until I noticed Uncatchable not working. I was using 0/0/0/20/20 with no major traits.

Click the PvP icon. Click “Enter Heart of the Mists”. Skip tutorial. Run forward. Look to your left. BAM! There you go.
Have a few quick condition removals if you don’t feel like investing in sigils. Believe me I hate that kitten too, especially from monsters.
My favorite is Signet of Agility combined with Fleet of Foot and Uncatchable. Since all I use is Bleeds and Cripples, the moment I get my own conditions transferred onto me I use my SoA to cleanse bleeding and then dodge through the necro and reapply Bleeding and Cripple while removing my cripple from me.
Hope this helps a little.

DA NA NA NAAAAA!!
You get a:If it made explosions on contact with trees, this would be the most epic harvesting axe ever. I approve.
I would gladly pay $20 for an Exploding Nerf Bat that let me chop all of the trees without worrying about charges.
DA NA NA NAAAAA!!
You get a:
=n= I remember Uncatchable being sort of a mini-Caltrops utility applying 2 bleeds and a cripple for a short amount of time. Today I noticed that it was only stacking one. I went to wiki to see what it actually does and although it specifies 1 bleed (4s) per second it was modified June 11th, 2013 about 20 minutes before midnight.
Did my favorite Trickery trait get nerfed?!
Keep his kitten crippled/immobilized and laugh.
Necromancers have the worst mobility in game, and the only one that had a strong condition damage build before the patch They get to use torment once every…30s if I recall correctly? As for condition dmg thieves and mesmers, I don’t really know but it seems to me they don’t have access to many conditions.
We have access in the form of venoms. Venoms suck though.
I’ve noticed the sluggish skills as well.
Maybe the only one getting frustrated is you?
