Damage was never the issue. It was CC.
Yes the barrier spam is my biggest problem with DH, but it’s a problem with every elite since they thought kittenting out 5 seconds of CC at least per elite was a good idea. Chrono can easily kitten out 10 seconds in a massive AoE with Continuum Shift, shield 5, Gravity Well, Gravity Well, shield 5, say good bye team because stability won’t protect you since they multi hit stuns for multiple stack destruction. DH has 12 seconds worth of barriers with LB5 and Dragon’s Maw only stoppable with stability or teleports and 1 second daze on any trap and any close range LB shot knockbacks every 10 seconds. Reaper has Executioner’s Scythe for 1.5, Terrify for 1, “Chilled to the Bone!” for 2 and perma chill upkeep easily in general. Druid has 1 second knockdown from their best pet, 2 second daze from Lunar Impact, 1 second from staff weapon swap, and 5 ticks of pulsing immobilize every 10 seconds from any other CC. Berserker can daze for a second out of every 3 seconds with mace, knockback every 3 seconds with hammer, .25 daze while nuking with rifle and has 2 seconds of instant taunt every 30 seconds and 3 second stun every 20 seconds with Headbutt. Tempest didn’t get much but they got nearly permanent Shocking Aura for 1 second every 2 seconds when hit in melee to their entire team. DD got 2 second knockdown per 12 second, 2 second stun per 16 seconds, 2 second daze into a launch into a finisher with their elite and 3 interrupts that put skills on a 10 second cooldown and 2 second knockdown from staff stealth attack. Scrapper has 1 second stun on Thunderclap and possibly 3 dazes from Rocket Charge, daze every time they kill a Gyro instead of letting it die.

Traps punishing the other team for not paying attention. (I was guilty of this one time as well).
Working as intended.
Against teams/players that have experience fighting DH traps, idk….Its a up-hill battle for the DH then, I cannot see Anet nerfing the spec.
With bunker rev I can literally /sleep in their traps when I proc Infused Light or Crystal Hibernation, I am sure other classes can find work arounds too if they pay attention.
People need to play against Dragonhunter and learn the match-up better instead of spending their time QQing because they play against a DH for one match.
You mean Revenant the class with the best abilities to counter traps and barriers can easily beat traps and barriers, who would of thought. You don’t play against DH for one match, you play with 3 out of 9 other players every match.
because Guardians were locked down to shout bunker or medi dps, we got another dps so everyone going for it, its fun yes after all those years in medi it feels fresh.
Warriors have new DPS builds too but you don’t see many people spamming Gun Flame every 3 seconds. Neither are they playing wack a mole with their mace conditions or greatsword huge damage AoE.
It’s obviously not enough, count the amount of DH players a game and then count the amount of Warriors. Only 9 classes but you usually have 3 DH a game and you are lucky to find 1 Warrior per 10 games. Must be because traps are so fun, reason people were always playing longbow trap Rangers for years now.
I don’t like how I can’t get out of Maw when I use Lightning Reflexes to stunbreak. So I’m literally forced to sit there in the traps and hope I don’t die while I try to cast SotP for my stab.
What you don’t like the 12 seconds of barrier that prevents any form of action even dodging besides stability and teleports? I like how it’s invisible 90% of the time so I can’ even tell what’s happening.
Just for some clarification… an assassin is someone who chooses a target, engages on his own terms where his opponent has little chance to survive, and works best on his own.
An assassin is not someone who has others hold a victim down while he delivers the death blow.
Those are two entirely different things. That is why I cannot truly label anything involving the current Thief as “assassin.” Yes, while there are some “assassin” builds that have the potential to kill some opponents in 1-2 shots, there are SO MANY passive defenses and AoE’s in this game, those buiilds are hardly effective… especially once someone knows what you’re doing.
I can understand what you are saying. I guess they don’t have that overwhelming burst potential that comes out as what you call an assassin. But I believe daredevil is a great 1v1 because it lure out a lot of cooldowns, poke going in and out and just widdle you down until death. And I really don’t think unless they have a toughness/vitality based amulet they will last too long.
If another person comes by, as long as you play safe, you can distract them and annoy them as they try to catch you while you’re dodging their attacks.
So you mean it’s useless because no one uses zerker anymore and Thieves were always the best anti zerker.
I only play DH and P/P DD so I’m generally speaking from experience. I farm full trap DHs with my DD. If they aren’t full trap, then their trap burst isn’t that threatening. If I force the shield virtue, I just BP > bound and wait it out. If he turns around, I follow up with sneak attack to spam blind and a small burst. The sneak attack itself melts through w.e aegis he’s current enjoying. I’m honestly shocked that a thief with as many games as you still refuses to acknowledge the possibilities and would rather cry nerf than take what’s there.
Because it’s broken, so you can break through the Aegis with Unload spam, you aren’t winning the fight either way and if you do the guy was terrible, Thieves don’t win 1 vs 1s against decent people and if it’s a team fight your +1 isn’t working very good if you are doing nothing to him for 5 seconds.
Right, I’m sorry, forgot it’s in the PvP-, not the thief-section. If I hear a thief complaining about invulnerability… Thieves have the easiest way to avoid it at all. Just let it wear off while sitting in stealth, I really don’t know how hard it can be.
In PvP, thieves have a lot of other strengths than just dealing damage. Well timed shadow refugees for example can win a lot of fights for your team. If you want a bunker… roll another class for PvP. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. But saying that thieves needs massive buffs by doubling their damage because otherwise they’re useless is like saying that elephants are weaker than leopards because they can’t climb trees.
Good thing there’s so much AoE spam on the new elites that stealth ressing is even easier than it was before.
So using your skill with little to no CD (referring to unload, rapid, etc) and force him to burst his 70s CD skill to block for 3s. Cluster bomb is slow, but the guard is literally running in a tight circle picking up aegis (shouldn’t be that hard to land vapor blade in such conditions either). Not that difficult. Due to the stationary nature of two of LBs most powerful skills, he usually can’t pick up aegis AND attack without you knowing what’s up and dodging.
You have to remember that unlike every other class, guard has no escape skills and requires these blocks to survive. DH gave guards a 600 range leap and that’s it.
Have you ever even used a shortbow on a Thief, the explosions go in random directions once activated so if you don’t use it on top of him you will hit at most 1 if you are lucky. Shield lasts 5 seconds not 3 and the pistol Thief is literally useless for those 5 second, if you even find a P/P Thief in the first place. Vapor Blade is ridiculously easy to dodge, go to the ele NPC in the mists and hold right click while hold A or D, watch as only one hit hits you. Uhh Guardians survived pretty well before they were given this too and their basic attack hit’s as hard as a max range Ranger longbow basic so they have no damage problem while moving.
How about unload and rapid fire? Or warrior’s rifle flurry? Or engi’s nades? D/D ele’s fire auto hits three times (we won’t count that since it requires you to hug your target). D/D else’s water auto, on the other hand, hits twice per toss (one through and one when it returns). Mesmer GS is ezmode for breaking aegis. Thief’s cluster bomb, when detonated, hits multiple times if you aim it right and can be spammed. Every class has, more or less, one viable option for breaking through aegis spam.
You linked some of these and are still arguing that you can’t break through aegis?
I was listing autos, those skills have cooldown so he can just dodge them with the one dodge per 10 second regen he has. Edited in grenades, water ele dagger is pathetic and has almost no chance to hit once let alone twice on a moving target. Also Unload spam can easily be countered by https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shield_of_Courage activation. Already said Mesmer GS. Cluster Bomb is the slowest projectile in the game, only hits people AFK from a range, need to be closer than melee range to hit all 3 and it has way less than 3 per second from a range since you have to wait for it to reach to use again.
Yea, let’s cherrypick one of the slowest autos in the game.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sword
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/DaggerOn average, 3 attacks every 1.15 seconds. For the 11 aegis to be broken, we’d need 4.2 seconds to break the aegis. Realistically speaking, the aegis doesn’t all land in the same spot, so if the DH is hellbent on gathering all of the aegis, he’d eat a couple autos in between every few aegis pick ups. Assuming marauder, you’re doing about 1k autos (1.7k with crit). If he grabs the first three which are removed on 1.15s, he gets to eat another 2k damage (two autos) before the next. This is assuming all you do is auto and not try to CC him in between aegis pick ups.
CC him and Aegis procs again because it has no cooldown on CC. I said melee but people say ranged is how you win, make up your mind please people. I did not cherry pick, literally only 5 ranged autos in the game hit more than once a second.

Shield of wrath: 36s CD untraited.
Shelter: 30s CD
Renewed focus: 90s CD (72 when traited, which is usually the case).
Virtue/shield of courage: 70s CD. Both apply aegis, latter blocks projectiles for 3s.What is this about blocking every 10s?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fragments_of_Faith
5 fragments = 5 aegis
One trait activates one aegis and one fragment trap on stun, so that’s 1 aegis + 5 more aegis. The active version of the trap is another 5 aegis. That’s 11 aegis from DH specialization, in addition to all the aegis from the guardian base spec.
And how many guards can actually use up all those Fragment Aegists? Disregarding 1v1 fights, it’s tough utilizing every Fragment drop in a skirmish fight unless the Aegis placement RNG places them in a row, right in front of you. Most of the time we’re having to have back track to grab the Aegis.
Especially if your Fragment Trait procs in addition to yours, how many of those 10 fragments do you think we can get before they dissapear? Again, not many if it’s a skirmish fight. Having to backtrack towards an enemy to grab the Fragments is counter intuitive for a Guardian trying to kite.
Sounds more like a get good problem to me, picking up 5 fragments placed in a small area around me over 8 seconds is hard. They have amazing melee traps why are they needing to kite like other ranged builds.
Except aegis can easily be burnt by an auto attack? You see him running around in circles trying to pick up fragments? Just auto him each time. He can’t attack while he has his back to you. If he’s sidestepping, he’s not using true shot so there’s no serious risk of burst. Aegis was only powerful on the base virtue since you could pop it immediately to react when you needed it. These DH sources of aegis (aside from the on CC) are very obvious to the attacker. Also, the aegis from base guard doesn’t get added onto DH.
So burn it with auto attacks and that’s 11 seconds of invulnerability for some of them lol, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Long_Range_Shot Actual attack speed is approximately once every 1.00 seconds. Or are you telling us to use faster melee against the traps when people keep saying range. Should also mention you can attack while moving full speed to pick them up, just not True Shot.
(edited by glaphen.5230)
Ranger traps are condition based, DH traps are damage based. You can’t compare apples and oranges.
I don’t think the problem is the damage. Is the utility you get from them.
The utility in ranger traps is the recharge. The shortest ranger trap recharge is 12 seconds. The shortest DH trap recharge is 24 seconds.
Combined with this: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Trapper
And rangers have all the utility they need.
Shortest is 20 seconds on https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Procession_of_Blades Test of Faith has 24 but it lasts 8 seconds and gives 6 seconds of protection, Fragments of Faith has 36 but it can be used twice with the trait, also comes with an elite that Rangers don’t have and has the longest CC in the game that can’t be stun breaked or condition removed besides their longbow 5 with the same one and all traps come with 1 second daze.
DH is not a problem at all.
Wow great argument there Mr. Guardian main.
DH’s are hardcountered by long range pressure. so any kind of Lb or staff ranger/druid. probably a well-played rifle zerker. don’t walk into their cluster of traps, and it’s going to be ok.
Maybe if they had a scepter with its kittenty basic attack spam but oh wait they received the longbow with it and it has 2 base anti ranged abilities.
All I see now is a rising population of casual guardians that were talking crap about DH few weeks ago that its a weak spec. Well, we are in a (no sarcasm) good spot right now.
By the way, spear pull and binding blades will keep you on toes while keeping your distance, so don’t feel that cheeky once you know that traps are laid.
Also, if we can’t pull you, we will come to you and drop dem sweet traps on your bootay right awayThere is an animation for that. The problem is with unranked only, you are seeing so much more inexperienced players who do not even know what their class is doing let alone the enemy DH.
2 traps are completely instant cast and the other 2 taken have .5 second cast time with the basic hand down motion of every other trap in the game. Traps might be balanced if they didn’t get a nuclear bow negating their ranged problem, amazing virtues that are purely upgrades over basic and 2 different long duration barriers that are guaranteed death if you don’t have a teleport or stability ready or just one will kill all of your invulnerabilities.
yeah having a 5 move knockdown spam perma invis to reset fights and 3 dodges is underwealming……k…. would u like a move that insta wins the game for you?
English please? Don’t know what knockdown spam you talk of, the staff stealth attack? Doesn’t have any ways to stealth without utilities http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Smoke_Screen will give you 2 knockdowns in 7 seconds maybe or using pistol off hand and using it before swapping but that has a 10 second cooldown of not being able to use staff. 3rd dodge doesn’t increase regen speed and is only affected by a single trait, Hard to Catch so it’s .75 second invulnerability once a fight and DH gets 5 second projectile destruction with Aegis spam for free.
Do this: Equip a full set of traps on ranger or guardian.
Notice he did not include Thief.
Because not even perma-Stealth with traps can kill things with it.
k got it, I’ll spam skill 5 on staff while evading all damage and do as much damage as a backstab. Yay back to how i like my teef.
Can’t really spam it since you can only do it once per 5 seconds regen, probably seeing the dodge which has a similar animation but clear differences.
kitten Ele’s and warriors and theives and guardians are crying because they can’t just roll their face on the keyboard and win anymore. Now they have some competition and it’s hurting them. Despite the fact that all of those classes have been overpowered compared to the rest for almost 2 years now. It will take some getting used to the new level playing field. Give them time.
Don’t know why you said Guardians because they are the most broken of them all and is played through face rolling.
No thanks unless it’s an option, I prefer to see peoples outfits and I play Charr.
If they gave pvp players elite specs… there would be no reason for us to buy the expansion. As B2P or F2P player we allready got everything else for free….
If you bought it how did you get everything else for free.
So exactly how many whine threads do I need to make to get a map banned? Because I am flipping tired of Legacy of Foefire.
If you can find the means to make a thread with people whining about the best map in the game be my guest. All points as big as foefire middle so you can actually dodge AoE fields without decapping and it has no extra features besides a very risky game changing play at the end.
We all knew the smoke scale would be nerfed, it was a bit too much, 50% reduction is still fine damage from the SA skill. Let me guess, though, no plans to nerf Revenant’s equivalent skills though, aye?
Revenant skill does less than half the damage this did with zerker and this could also be combined with Sic’Em and Signet of the Wild.
fun game~
test with ranger, this is what happens if you don’t have dodges with scrapper runes so 7% dmg reduxI dont even know how you get this numbers, the damage was nerfed by 50%
Taken before the nerf probably.
YO, this is how ALL pets should be like, considering the amount of damage ranger DOESN’T have because its split with the pet. I’m just glad this pet actually hit targets now!
Its pretty much a l2p issue at this point, just you know… dodge. Oh yeah and revenants, can’t forget them… oh reapers… scrappers… LOL
Dodges last .75 seconds, this lasts 2 seconds, you need to dodge 3 times in a row to avoid the damage almost completely or use a block that doesn’t counter. Dodges regen at 1 per 10 without vigor or weakness and you still have the Ranger doing whatever he wants, doesn’t even need to hit F2.
Haha, if you’re saying you’re not allowed to take damage past a dodge roll, you probably shouldn’t be in pvp.
Good thing other channels can be interrupted/LoS/reflect or are melee range besides the new Revenant skill this copies exactly but did better.
A 50% damage nerf was not justified at all. Now bristleback does pretty much the same damage burst, but with half the cooldown. Smokescale should have only lost 25% damage at most.
Bristleback has a longer channel that can be interrupted and the pet has no CC and way less basic attack damage with a bad F2. So now it’s a bit more in line with Bristleback but still better?
I complained about the damage but the F2 swap is pretty dumb, but then again there is a ton of other pet skills I wish I could activate instead of relying on A.I. luck.
As someone who has played Ranger for a very long time, I think it deserves a bit of a toning down. Not much… I’m not talking 50% reduced damage or something but maybe like 15% and make it easier to dodge or something. Otherwise, this pet is how all pets should be… It can actually hit moving targets and has an amazing attack pattern on it.
I actually totally understand why people are upset with it but to be fair, I think a lot of it is also because people completely neglect the pet when fighting a Ranger. Most pets don’t do a lot of damage or rarely hit… With birds, felines and now Smokeskale, you actually need to pay attention to where the pet is because it can hit like a train if the Ranger wants it to. It’s the same idea as Mesmer clones really… You don’t just ignore an iZerker and you shouldn’t a Ranger pet either.
Yes and the position of smokescale doesn’t matter, it’s going to teleport between targets for 2 seconds every 19.5 seconds and it’s F2 isn’t something you have to avoid, also it’s knockdown is better than the normal dogs since it has half the cooldown and half the cast time but half the duration and a bit less range making you waste double the stun breaks or dodges and doing 50% more basic attack damage.
Shield skill obviously needs a nerf 6 seconds of blocking with 8k healed per 20 seconds, that’s more than healing skills, shelter heals 4k and blocks 2 seconds on a 30 second cooldown.
Bring unblockable interrupts?
So you got these abilities only.

Now which of these are meta exactly and every single one has a longer cooldown than a block and they have 2.You forgot Wail of Doom, I’m a bunker MM necro for now blocks have not proven to be an issue for me guard, scrapper, rev etc and I have poison hell just d/wh and staff handles blocks fine enough. If you want to stick to meta after a fresh patch that is your choice it doesn’t even have to interrupt just applying poison or unblockable damage will do the trick. You could also just dps him I have seen it happen.
I have a guard crying on thief forum about a possible tripwire and staff combo owning him it’s not meta but he finds it ridiculous. If it really becomes too much of an issue they have their more common patches to nerf it.
I will guarantee you none of those skill will become meta and as I said 2 blocks per 20, shortest is 25 on Signet of Might but that requires Warrior to give up his extremely important utilities. Thief traps are some of the worst skills is the game and you have people crying about dying to them in WvW in permastealth in Thief forums.
I am one that didn’t buy the expansion due to reasons. I have been reading the forums about how a lot of people are disappointed by it and how long it will take to open up the full elite spec.. now as I haven’t logged in and gong by the way PvP has always been set up ie: take a level 2 into PvP zone you have everything unlocked on traits etc etc, has this also been implemented for the elite specs for those that own the expansion?
In other words, if they haven’t unlocked all the content in masteries etc in PvE, is it all unlocked for them when they enter the PvP Lobby? If so.. then loooooooooool GG Anet I mean… *cough NCsoft cough *
Just want to know if I am wrong on this or not.
They are instantly unlocked on the bottom trait line for SPvP if you own the expansion.
You clowns do know that ranger is balanced with damage being split by player and pet right?
Before this pet, you could completely ignore pet attacks by simply moving. But now you can’t and you recieve the full damage that was meant to be received 3 years ago. But please, keep your whining and let people know how bad at pvp you are.kitten off please they improved pet hitting ability like 2 years ago, pet does more than a zerker Revenant does so where is the split exactly.
Improved? You can still avoid pet attacks by simply moving.
And the split is that you can avoid the other smoke scale attacks by simply moving.
Sure thing buddy but I have over 500 hours on Ranger and no problem hitting people with pets.
Shield skill obviously needs a nerf 6 seconds of blocking with 8k healed per 20 seconds, that’s more than healing skills, shelter heals 4k and blocks 2 seconds on a 30 second cooldown.

This is bullkitten. The MINUTE the Ranger gets something good, the masses scream “Nerf omg!”
Honestly you dealt with an OP ele for months, you can deal with a somewhat deadly Pet. Stop calling to nerf our main kittening mechanic.
Tanky? I almost guarantee you aren’t even targeting it. Remember they take 95% less damage from everything now unless you target it. Same with all pets.
If you want something nerfed, call at the chrono gravity well, or the reaper in general. Also remember that druid is kittened atm? Don’t even look at the rangers general direction if you want to call nerf.
Stop whining and kittening about stuff, that’s all I see in these kitten forums at the moment. Sure the pet could be retuned here and there, but instead of just screaming “do something” actually provide WAYS HOW. Give good feedback, not knee-jerk feedback that immediately over-exaggerates everything and makes it sound far worse than it is, this was why WHaO got ruined for 2 weeks in less than 24 hours.
One more thing, stop attempting to balanceor nerf kitten in a vacuum. Get some kitten protection or something or put some toughness on your class instead of full zerk or Condi power.
They already nerfed drakes in the past and it only did 10k to one and 5k to another target if neither dodged at all with no CC on the pet, also has a 1.5 second cast time and I’m pretty sure it used to have a longer one but they buffed that after the nerf plus quickness nerf but the kittenty wiki isn’t loading, hell its 3rd skill didn’t even work back then. Smokescale has 23.8k health and 2.7k toughness, it also full heals if you swap to a different pet for 16 seconds. A lot of stuff if not balanced obviously but this pet is dumb. Wiki loaded and it used to have a 2.75 second cast time but 10k to one and 5k to another was OP so they lowered the damage even though either target dodging made it do kitten, only 5k if one target was around or no one near the target.
(edited by glaphen.5230)
So I actually looked in game and the smokescale does 9.5k damage with 0 crits every 19.5 seconds. Revenant does 6k damage if it crits 4 out of 7 times with zerker and air runes every 12 seconds. Can you people stop talking out of your kitten .
Smoke scale does this skill every 30s then becomes useless. Revenant can do it every 15s while still dishing out enormous damage. People need to simply learn to pay attention to pets now instead of outright ignoring them. This is nothing more than a L2P issue. If you can’t handle a pet, then how are you fighting any revenant that presses 3?
Pet=class obviously. It’s the best pet in the game by far, that was just the big skills, the breaths are the only reason to take drakes but smokescales come with the dog leaping knockdown and do 50% more basic attack damage and give on demand smoke fields for stealth or blind spam. Again they nerfed drakes in the past and they were far weaker than this thing.
They nerfed the lightning/poison drakes breaths even though it required 2 people and either one dodging made it do nearly no damage but they add this monster that does the same damage every 20 seconds automatically without an obvious pet cast time like the drakes, 1 target, 2, it doesn’t matter they all take damage randomly unless they both dodge 3 times in a row.
Might I ask…. How does the daredevil 6th rune effect work ? Is the “attack” considered to be a full chain on a skill or just one of the hits that will cause damage?
For instance… If one’s using fist flurry after a dodge roll….will all hits critically strike or just the first one in the chain ?
One hit per dodge.
So it’s possible to use the elite specs in pvp without purchasing the expansion ? I’m asking, because I have gw2 uninstalled.
No, it is not possible to use elite specializations in PvP if you do not own Heart of Thorns.
Yes, elite specializations are far superior to normal professions, and have no drawbacks whatsoever.
No, you cannot choose to join matches with other players who do not own the expansion.
Yes, this does mean Guild Wars 2 is now technically Pay-to-Win.
Right now, most of the Elite specs are not good.
As a matter of fact, I have no idea why they even refer to them as “Elite”.
The intention is to balance all the new “specs” to be EQUAL to all the base specs. So if people without the expansion can’t beat them then they will get nerfed.
Right now however, most of the Elite specs suck. So I have absolutely no idea what you are complaining about.
well i was fighting a druid character with my ranger and had no effect on him.. he instantly heals ..no matter what i hit him with..yesterday..was killing players left and right.
Pst…. try some cc. I swear, this thread is so funny. Just because something is new and people don’t know how to fight them yet, everyone is screaming “OP” and crying that it is all pay to win now. So sad…..
Warrior is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Ranger is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Necromancer is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Elementalist is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Guardian is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Thief is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Revenant is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Mesmer is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Engineer is OP, Pst…. try some cc. Don’t know why you even mention CC, real win strategy is to just bring their health down to 0.
Because PvP is a game mode. Not a training zone. If it was free to try in PvP, people who only PvP wouldn’t need to buy the expansion, while people who PvE would. Now which of these scenarios is the fair one?
First one because the 2nd one is P2W.
Dragon rank/ played only thief almost 1k matched.
Can’t fight 1vs1 with any class cuz thief will lose mostly.
Therefore, Thief must run. Run Run Run. Just do decap or +1 fight. <<< other class can do this same. So, what is the point of playing thief in SPvP?? Just res in stealth? Oh, that’s freaking coooooooooooooooooooooool. That is Only one reason to play thief.
When ur thief meet any other class in 1vs1 situation, just run. cuz u can’t win mostly.
conclusion, DO NOT PLAY THIEF AT SPVP.
OTHER CLASSES ARE MORE BETTER HELP TO TEAM WIN.
ALSO, MORE EASY TO PLAY THAN THIEF.PERIOD.
I’m fairly new to pvp (about 150 games)
Can you give some tips, how to beat thief as a mesmer?
Seems i cant beat thief on 1v1 (while capping).
His combo basilisk venom —> stealth --> backstab —> daze (from steal) --> other skill, burn my hp so fast, sometimes i can literally die or on sliver hp
Stun break out of basilisk or use Distortion/Diversion, if you know he is around hold right click and spin your mouse around to try to stop him from getting the backstab double damage. If you use greatsword or focus knock him out Shadow Refuge with either 5 or 4.

I can tell you one thing.
As I play DD ele, thief is still the biggest threat to my survival. All other classes might be better than you 1v1ing, but only thief post enough threat that I will consider how to disengage even before he enters the fight.
As I play shatter mesmer, the number one thing I constantly check is where thief is on the map. Because one mistake, you are basically a dead mesmer.
oh, Thief threatens to your survival? cuz thief in stealth, can’t expect attack when and where from, right? So where u standing now? OF COURSE ON POINT ZONE. U RUN OUT THE CLOCK ON CAPTURE POINT ZONE AND U STILL GETTING THE SCORE WHILE THIEF ROAM AROUND U WITHOUT GETTING ANY SCORE POINTS.
SPvP = point zone capture to win.
HOLD POINT ZONE IS THE WIN GAME.THINK DEEP.
DYING IS ALMOST ALWAYS WORSE THAN LOSING A CAPTURE.
THINK DEEPER.
NO IT ISN’T, IF YOU CAN SURVIVE ON YOUR OWN CAPPED POINT FOR AT LEAST 10 SECONDS IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO DIE, THE MORE PEOPLE VS YOU THE BETTER.
THINK DEEPEST.
Actually HoT is bringing in more classes that can manipulate conditions. There’s going to be less burn guards and more everything else. We’ll just have to wait and see what’s trully OP and what’s just right.
Only new class that manipulates conditions is Revenants condition build which plays the same as a transfer Necromancer. Can’t do it without the trait line though so you need to build around it not just take the form.
SB 5 decap only works if no one is on the point, not like Thieves can 1 vs 1, actual decap like Engineers did a year ago was nerfed.
