the “new player experience” is just a total nightmare. and makes lvling not fun at all. esp if you are used to the old system.
how ever it is worth playing your current toons because it only takes a few mins to get to grips with the class / game and u can always go to low lvl zones to learn the class again thanks to down scaling.
not much has really changed since a year ago. apart from some gemstore items etc. the real changes are going to happen over the next few months.
the trait system revamp will be here before the expansion.
also guildwars 1 and guildwars 2 expansions are not like other mmos. there is no lvl cap increase no gear resets or new tiers to be added. it will just be other ways to improve your character with out needing to grind new sets of gear.
so if u have the highest quality gear today (ascended) at the end of HoT expansion it will still be the highest quality , depending on the stats and how the meta works, but its a safe bet direct dmg will still be highly sought after (zerk, assasins etc)

1. ranger does not = long range fighter. it means they have a range of skills to track down hunt and assault targets. its a common misconception that ranger = long range sniper. they are not and should never have been.
2. grenades for engineer have been made 900 range and cant be increased.
3. I hope they do nerf longbow to 900 range so that you guys cant camp from 1500 + in pvp and just be a nightmare to fight.

the look of your characters face is for social events ingame where u spend most of the time looking at it from the front.
unless you rolled a female toon in tight leather armor. then I don’t think you would mind looking at it from behind then ^-^

well to be fair we are already a meta class for pve. just most ppl are not very smart when it comes to engineer. and its those ppl that pug the most. which then filters to other players which in turn affects us.
when ppl try to play an engineer in say heart of the mists the complex nature just gives them a perma stack of 25 confusion IRL which then makes them think engies suck and because of that they avoid engies in pve as they assume every other engie ingame also suck because they suck.
I know its silly but that really is how it happens. then ofc you get “That flame thrower noob” join for pve and it just makes it worse. btw those guys who stay in FT non stop for pve 5 mans = bear bow of the engineer. don’t be that guy !

the trait revamp along with the mortar changes to grenade fix are very welcome.
for those who don’t understand why a lot of engies like the grenade change let me explain.
1. once you learn how to use grenades you understand one very important thing. its almost impossible to hit anything that is moving from 1000 + range with grenades anyway due to its super mega slow speed.
2. the low explosion radius we currently have is a compounded affect that combines with the above fact.
3. no more hobosack ^-^ and we finally get to hold grenades in our hand. I like the bundle of grenades we hold in our right arm. it finally matches the animation of our left hand grabbing “invisible” grenades for the live game.
4. now the mortar is a kit in the elite skill slot we can keep our current load outs for pure dps and then when needed to just pop our mortar aoe the crap out of things in the distance to tag then get back to our dps rotation. the mortar will also be our aoe field machine so we can tag a lot.
5. in PVE 5 man dungeon we just stand as a group in melee range of a boss. so 1500 range is not even relevant. yes there is maybe 1 or 2 bosses where we can stand at max range, looks at fractals. but most of the time in fractals im around 600 or less range to keep in range of banners.
the initital shock of grenade range reduction made me go OMG WTF then I saw the twitch footage and saw the mortar in action so im very very very very very happy now.
if u want to see the mortar in action its on the twitch stream at around 1hour 55 mins in. they are using a temp flame thrower model as a placeholder until the art team make a proper mortar weapon that will be held and portable. ^-^.
oo and the mortar f5 skill is basically like an orbital strike from other games (ION CANNON !1!1!11!!! )

they are just tight fisted and think all online games should be free because they don’t want to spend / afford the luxary of subscriptions.
people forget that WoW is a relic of the past and the only reason ppl still sub to it is due to the 10 + years its been out and the attachment to their toons.
I personally don’t mind paying a sub if it meens better quality updates.
then again if u look at Warlords of dreanor you have to ask where is all this sub money going for such pitiful content.

no other class has legendary effects while swapped out of their legendary weapons
no other class uses kit mechanics. the only time we use the weapons is when we swap to its skill use it then back to kits.
when eles swap attunement they still get the benefit of the legendary. engies are similar to eles with kits working like atunements.
also just like ele we cant swap to another weapon in combat.
so enough with the crap and just ask for legendarys to work on kits.

how to fix turrets
1. give them aoe dmg immunity when used in a PVE dungeon
2. let turrets scale with stats and have the ability to crit
3. make self repairing trait base line for turrets
4. reduce the cd on turrets esp the rocket rurret
5. picking up turrets should not incure any cooldown (for pve)
6. if option 3 is to OP then change it so turrets get healed when we use a heal skill
7. remove all threat generation from turrets when in a dungeon
8. just separate PVP and PVE fully. and have WvW follow the PVE rule set due to PVE gear being useable in WvW and that 90% of WvW is just big zergs with ranged aoe being the meta.
9. give turrets wheals (or legs like the clock work robots from season one, reverse engineering is a powerfull thing ) so they can move. looks at the Bots from wildstar.
10. maybe have a new elite skill. that combines all turrets in game into 1 SUPER MEGA turret of doom !!!!!

when I am not using a kit its awesome I have the glow affect, the foot steps and the #1 #4 #5 abilities are altered and its very nice.
and then I use my kits (90% of my time in combat is using kits)….
I lose my aura and my footsteps and the only skills affected by my legendary weapon are the non kit abilities such as the toolbelt skills (they are bound to the weapon not the kit) my #1 skill with kits are not affected either.
the only kit skill affected is my grenade barrage but that’s a toolbelt skill and not a kit skill.
also I am an asura. when I have my rifle on show the aura is barely even noticible. my footsteps are also barely visible and last a fraction of the time the 2 handed swords do.
the exact same thing also applies to the legendary pistol + shield (I do not have them but I know engineers who have them and they can confirm).
I would like to request that legendary weapons affect engineer kit skills and give the aura when using bundles.

World of Warcraft went all out for its 10th last year, they added the 40 man molten core back for lvl 100s. had old school tarren mill vs south shore and gave every one a core hound mount.
so we might see something in gw1 or something happen with gw2. who knows

simple rule for mmos.
its the player using the class that’s OP.
a class may seem OP when a skilled player is using it.
take a bad player with an “OP” class and they do not seem OP at all and most of the time are a push over.
yes some classes are “easier” to play then others.
also a lot of ppl don’t know how to counter certain classes / builds due to them being less played then other very popular classes (thief / ele)
its taken years for the engie class to be taken srsly by the players. and its only now that we are seeing skilled engineers rising up and taking a lot of players by surprise.
so yes the class is OP if used correctly and skill fully.
no it wont be OP for a new player who does not understand the class.
and yes learning the engineer at first is complex. then you get used to it and its then becomes easy to use.

Only eles have high ranged damage. You can melee every boss in fractals but many groups prefer ranging everything because it is a lot easier and you don’t need to do much.
not true an engineer can keep up with staff ele and when you combine the big bomb kit cooldowns which are well placed (using grenades while moving into range) u can then blast the target.
bomb kits having 300 range with trait meens u can still stay out of melee range of the boss. still hit the boss. be in range of banners and still get all boons from the group.
its all about knowing the fight and your class and how to maximize your dps while minimizing dmg taken from bosses / avoiding attacks.
stacking works well in normal 5 mans. but a lot of the time spreading out a little while still being in range of boons is nice for certain bosses.
unless you run highly organised groups with voice chat. that’s a different story. but for the vast majority of groups its just standard tacs.

I only have 1 set of gear for all aspects of the game – zerker
.
I pretty much only run 50 now and most of the time its a mix of gear types. and as long as it works I am happy. I don’t ask what ppl use. as long as they have the AR and skill to play the class I am happy.
I believe a lot of players use soldiers for fractals just because of how it works at 50.
again I don’t mind what they use as long as it works

for as long as we have ways to counter damage in PVE dungeons zerker will always be favoured.
its highly effective and with some practice of the fights u never get downed. unless u get a lag spike :P

hi an old post I made to help ppl with the basics of grenades
so this will help you a lot.
1. learn the fights. watch youtube guides on how its done. where to stack and when to dodge.
2. learn spatial awareness. that’s the ability to look at the entire scene while still attacking the boss (its like driving a car u learn to be aware of everything ahead of you while still driving)
3. DODGE DIP DUCK DIVE AND DODGE !!!!! if you believe you are about to take damage then dodge. pre-emptive dodging is also very handy and a lot of the time saves u from attacks u didn’t even think would happen
zaced only noob players tell others to L2P and then give zero advice on how to improve or even learn the class. players like you are just a waste of server space.
with time you will get to learn the class better.
I wrote this for another thread that’s doomed to the pages of no 1 cares
1. use fast cast ground target with marker (lets u see where u aim and still be fast cast)
2. imagine you are playing a third person shooter and imagine the middle of your screen has a target reticule
3. learn all the arcs for your skills inc the rifle skills.
4. get an mmo gaming mouse (I use a razer naga) it greatly improves your ability to play mmos and classes like the engineer (keybind heavy / ability heavy class)
5. go to the pvp lobby and use those golems to practice aiming then u can go to wvw and practice on moving targets in a zerg
once you learn to control the grenades and understand the movements of your targets (in pve and pvp / wvw).
you can then anticipate the movement and throw the grenades ahead or behind the target or to the sides etc. get used to the flight time and arc of grenades and u will be able to make the most of it.
helpful tip each grenade thrown is able to hit 5 targets each, example grenade #1 can tag up to 15 npcs / players if u get a decent spread. grenade barrage is up to 30 targets tagged if u get a good spread.
its just recently uploaded so its not fully processed yet = grainy picture to any 1 who watches just after its been linked. sorry : (
also on a side note. this video I posted is all about manual aiming all abilitys. learning this makes u a much better engineer in terms of ability aiming and predicting.
also if u select your target and have the option “stop auto attacking on target change” unchecked it will let u target your foe start to auto attack then u can left click empty space to “deselect the target”
but your rifle auto attack will carry on. even if u change to a kit and use grenade #1 spam and swap back to rifle it will automatically auto attack
but don’t forget that with skills 2 3 and 4 u need to learn how to manually aim.
the reason for not harving a target “targeted” is it causes havoc with grenade ground targeting.
I am sure you all had that big boss dude and u targeted him with tab target then suddenly your ground target went from directly under the boss to just over your skill bar
or your ability to throw at distance is no longer possible due to the target frame obscuring the view preventing u from hitting the target from behind with grenades
well that’s a work around that lets u have all skills working with no target frame messing it up. the real fun begins when u learn to hit moving targets

so I found an awesome change to the engineer bombkit when used underwater. it now uses a very awesome sounding explosion with depth to it
please please please add this to land combat for the bomb kit.

on a side note I would also like to make a bug known.
the sound fx delay when using skills rapidly is very clear now that u removed the option from the sound settings.
example when using the harpoon 2 skill. as soon as I use it I detonate the mines. but u hear no explosion. I then use the harpoon gun 4 skill right after the explosion and you do not hear the sonar pinging from the skill.
could you fix it please I hate the delayed / missed sound fx esp when I have a high end machine that ran 100% fine before you changed the sound settings.

stop asking for direct X upgrades its not going to happen.
but do start asking for 64Bit clients. that is far more important.
32bit clients have limited access to system resources
64bit can use as much as it likes / is available = huge increase in performance just from this.

please make the birthday blaster for 2 years account wide so my alts can use it for lvling up.
it makes no sense that its soulbound considering you moved to making ascended / legendary account wide and all minis account wide + other stuff.
I know its only +40 all stats 15% exp and 10% karma but its a perma buff that’s actually nice to have and saves u buying stupidly overpriced food that only really gives an extra +30 in 1 stat (PVE HERE PVE PVE PVE PVE)
do not mention WvW here as this is not about WvW its about the blaster being account wide for alts !

race used to be hard coded into WoW aswell. so was players faction.
now ofc u can change your race / faction with 1 click of a button.
nothing is “truly hard coded” its just a matter of how hard it is to change it.
but don’t expect any race change in the game. atleast now u have the option to lvl up the same class with a different race and just move your ascended gear over to it, and now u don’t need WvW for world map u can get your little star back in no time aswell

the safest way to make sure u have a real beta invite is just go to account management and click on the download client section. if your account is fleged for beta you can download the beta client (same thing happened with beta weekend for gw2)

as for making gold and not being poor.
stop spending money on things u don’t need if u wish to stock pile gold. a legendary which is in the most part a PVE vanity item is not essential to game play. yes its shiny. but thats it. if you truly want it. you would sacrifice pvp gameplay to do some pve and earn gold in a few months to buy one.
or wait for HoT for the new scvanger hunt style for precursor then just focus on crafting your self and farming the mats u need.
a legendary was designed to be a long term grind goal. and for most of the player base it is a long term grind. even if u just do it bit by bit each month.

funny how before the change slick shoes was a joke.
suddenly now its a huge threat to melee it needs a nerf ???
its a CC its designed to be a high threat attack that catchs you offgaurd. (pun intended) the old pvp meta with old stab needs to be reworked into a new meta for the new stab.
in time once ppl learn new meta you will have found ways to counter this.
engineer and our skills are not the issue here.
the issue here is the playerbase and lack of forward thinking on how to counter things that are not actually a huge threat to you in a pvp situation.
this stab nerf was a very much needed change. no more immunity to a large amount of skills in the game. and now engies can rip stab of targets

fun fact before they changed it so back items show up wearing a kit there used to be a bug where if you used your main weapons auto attack skill and then equip a kit half way into the auto attack cast bar it would bug out and your back item would show up. this lead to the current state of kits.
only now it works only when in combat. swaping to a kit out of combat does not show up the back item on your client.

before the change they could just ignore most of our CC and just charge in like a crazy person.
now our CC slick shoes overcharged shot and many others can now rip stab of a target so fast they don’t even know wtf happened. and those clases tacs based entirely around stab for 5-10 secs to just storm things is now dead.
CC is now something to be afraid of and is now very powerfull when used correctly.
before this it used to be lol cc STAB ROAR ME IMMUNE MUHAHAHA

set all settings to how you used to have them.
normally when they do game engine changes it causes some issues and by setting everything to its lowest you “clear” the game and it runs smoothly after.
also have u tried running a game repair.
I would like to mention that doing AC path one today and fighting the second boss my FPS droped to 10 fps and stutterd like crazy. and I couldn’t close the game and had to force close it.
they did indeed cause a nasty issue with the game.
also if u notice the XP bar at the bottom of the screen was redesigned which might be a factor in this.
also try getting updated GPU drivers. uninstall the old one then install the new one (this insures no driver corruption / conflicts, yes it does happen even today to argue is foolish)

title says it all post any bugs you have come across ingame.
1. FPS drops in dungeons causing crippling stuttering and loss of all sound, and the game does not close when you tell it to.
2. random voice over shouting from all races play randomly, even if its not the race you play. sometimes they over lap each other. still trying to find out how to replicate it and film it.
3. green bubble text when typing in any chat (party guild say)
4. unable to chat in guild. – set status to offline then back to online solves this (resets on logout)
5. graphics options removed causing players to be unable to reduce settings to pre patch. example post processing is now low – high and no more medium
6. sound options for sound stability is removed.
7. undocumented in patch notes. all down scaled players in low lvl zones / dungeons have had a large stat nerf (not sure if intended or unintended but pointing it out)
8. reports from a lot of ppl that the games UI is causing FPS drops ranging from 10-25 fps loss
9. new camera shake is causing motion sickness / dizyness for a lot of players. along with FoV slider contributing to it.
10. crippling lag in wvw and de-sync issues (invisible players, dying from nothing).
im sure I have missed some. please feel free to add to this so that all bugs are made aware and can be fixed asap

we need a customizable UI, like we had in guild wars 1.
if you are going to use SPVP / TPVP as an excuse as it gives advantages then simply use standard UI that cant be changed when playing SPVP / TPVP so the balance remains.
and WvW is just mindless zergs and is not to be taken srsly
ha I countered any arguments u might have for PVP imbalance

so back to the PVE point of this.
I am an engineer I use grenades / bombs and my rifle. this leads to ALOT of ground targeting. how ever if I target something like a champ or legendary I get a MASSIVE target frame slap bang in the top centre of my screen causing a lot of issues for ground targeting.
example I target a legendary boss and use ground target. in fractals u do need to move such as the colososal fractal. now when I start moving it does a lot of the time cause my ground targeting to snap to my skill bar UI or either side of the champ due to the target frame getting in the way.
this also causes issue when trying to use my ground target skills at max range. it eats up part of my screen and inhibits my ability to use my max range skills (wvw come to mind fighting zergs)
now I have learnt to play the game with out targeting NPCs. I still target players in spvp / tpvp as most of the time its melee based combat and this does not affect me.
but I would love to change how my UI looks + the size of all UI elements on my screen so I can optimize the screen space and have my target frame tucked away in a corner causing no issue to ground target skills.
if star wars the old republic MMO (swtor) can let us change all elements of the UI then I am sure you guys at anet can do this. I meen u made first person camera and im sure long ago u said u couldn’t do this for some silly reasons.
so TL:DR
now that we have more advanced camera options its time to have UI customisation while having it disabled for SPVP/TPVP to keep it all the same for esports (LOLOLOL)

this gap is because of the UI change for the XP bar.
they remade it and added a new one with XP blocks instead of a smooth single line bar that increases as you get xp.
most likely its to get ready for HoT and the mastery XP bar we will be using.
