So how about if they made every item in the game to have a max price of 1G or even make everything free. Everyone would be happy as they’d have everything they wanted. That’s what’s most important, right? That everyone is happy?

The market will correct itself by stabilizing at the price point that matches the new supply level. Just look what the foxfire farm did to elder wood prices? Elder wood prices fell to vendor level because the supply levels quickly surpassed the demand levels. You’ll see the same thing with silk if this continues.

Other items will be more gradual such as tier 5 and 6 fine mats. They have a lower drop rate and are coming from a much higher price point. They will still continue to fall until players do not find it valuable to continue that farm just like when they stopped doing the foxfire farm en masse.

If you have no issue with silk falling to vendor levels again then I’m pretty sure you feel that way about every other item as well. After all, I’m sure you don’t like paying 1K+ for precursors and would prefer them to be at the 250G level or less like someone else wants them.

I’m not really arguing with you with anything besides if you think the SW chest farm(which is just FGS champ farm with 3 times more drop) will make the material price drop to vendor value.

All I’m saying is you exaggerated the effect a bit much.

If I’m a game designer, I’ll probably fix the SW farm myself.

It’s arguably greater than 3 times the drop. You also have much more people doing it than you would see doing the FGS farm.

ok regardless sky isn’t falling. And item price wont’ drop to vendor value. I think the main point is what you said is a bit of exaggeration.

It won’t because they’ll likely fix it before it reaches that point.

ya, whatever. There is no way of proving it anyway.

And seriously, even if you farm for an hour in SW, you’ll only get like 15 tier 6 material. I think you exaggerated the effects a bit, that’s all I’m saying.

find it quite annoying to level a character to 50 just to open chest.

People still did them and made gold. It’ just that people have recently gravitated to broken farms that gave out twice the awards.

The only thing really ‘broken’ is that the majority of chests are at Amber. If they put more chests at the other locations people would spread out more. That’s essentially the biggest gripe I’m seeing here, is that in farming maps, everyone clusters at Amber instead of spreading across the map to defend all 4 points (and the escorts).

Nerfing the rewards into oblivion so no one gives a rats kitten about the map is not the way to fix it. Especially considering mobs don’t really drop loot (read: rarely, not never), and champs not at all. The chests balance that factor.

The thing I see broken is that you can easily replenish all the crests you used for keys from crests in chests and by doing a few events.

I don’t see anything wrong with that myself honestly, but that’s just my view on it.

It’s because you’re getting a ton of loot and not thinking about its impact.

People are happy, mat prices go down, maps are populated, lots of people playing the game.

Yep this farm is terrible! How will we say that the game is dying if the economy improves and people start playing again!?!?!

And you’re not considering the impact as well.

You mean the impact like the market being flooded with twister in a jar trinkets, silk prices going down because there are more of them being generated, t5 and t6 prices fluctuating because more are being pumped into the economy and it hasn’t had a chance to stabalize? You mean those types of things? All the same things that get impacted anytime something changes that brings some flux to supply?

Would you prefer prices of all items to fall to vendor prices? Would you prefer the TP to be removed entirely and everything purchasable from vendors for a specific price?

You mean…. like it was in GW1?

chuckle

Things will stabilize. It won’t be that drastic.

Yeah, they’ll stabilize when we reach the point where the farm isn’t worth it anymore.

if you put it that way. The price of tier 6 material surely wont’ drop to 16 copper.

I’m not sure what the price would be, but definately not 16 copper.

They won’t drop that far due to their starting price before the update. Silk has a high chance of reaching that amount though.

Silk was 8 copper before. And I honestly dont’ care about it. I dont ’think the world is falling because silk was 8 copper before.

If silk really reach 8 copper, I’ll say thankyou because I dont’ like ascended armor costing that much.

And if item price really depreciated that much, I’ll be doing dungeon instead because I can buy alot of items with the gold I farmed from dungeon directly.

That’s probably the whole point you get most gold from dungeon, but you mainly get material in the open world.

Since you believe in economy so much. The market always correct itself.

That being said, I find it more of a problem when other people says Behemoth in queensdale is dead and no one do it any more.

I was playing with a tank gaurdian in fractal and was surprised on how well the group goes. He somehow gets all the bosses attention so all the rest of the party member can melee dps.

That being said, you still need some skill. And the rest of the party does need to provides some AOE heals.

Those youtube speed run fractal runs are still much faster though. But it is one of the fastest fractal runs I ever did in pug.

It’s interesting to note that even in GW1, it would quite often happen that the game would spawn two identical drops almost simultaneously, but for two different players in the same instance. It’s quite possible that they are using pretty much the same system as in GW1, with the same flaws…. or it could just be a whole lot of coincidences.

And when I say identical drops, I mean that the game would not only drop the same rare skin twice in a row, but with the same statistics.

I didn’t play GW1, so not sure what is going on there. Depend on how many stats combo there are, it does felt quite weird a rare item drop with the same stats if that happens frequently.

Please read the wikipedia link I added to the original post.

Right. If you did any programming before you know when you want to randomize something, the first you give is a seed.

For example if you want to pick a number between 1-10. You first need to give it a seed number say 234. And the random number generated will be base on that seed number.

But the output of the number is actually random base on the seed number. It’ll give you a random number with the same probability.

So if you rerun the program and give the same seed number the output will always be the same. But it’ll actually be randomized that it wont’ be noticeable by the human eye.

PRNG is not random, because the outcome is determined by the predefined number (seed).

But you make it sound like your coincidence of getting 2 truth is due to the flaw of PRNG, it is definitely not true. You wont’ be able to notice it.

Here is some link you can read.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mersenne_twister
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15500621/c-c-algorithm-to-produce-same-pseudo-random-number-sequences-from-same-seed-on

That being said, could the algorithm used to build those random number be really simple so it is less labor intensive for the CPU? Maybe. You need to ask the person making the GW2 game engine. I’m not sure if he is bored enough to answer you that.

I honestly do it mostly for the dragonite ore. I personally “hate” doing world boss. Consider I farmed enough world boss to craft 18 ascended armor and 13 ascended weapon, I really dont’ want to do any more jormag or golem again.

And thanks to the SW farm. Hopefully I dont’ need to do more jormag or golem again.

If there are more fun ways to get dragonite ore, I probably wont’ be farming SW. I didn’t really farm much rats on halloween and that gives really good gold per hour.

If there is a correlation of successive values in the results of the random number generation, there is an increased likelihood of repeated success…

Or, a reduced likelihood of repeated success; it’s much easier, and much more likely, for a generator to traverse its domain too uniformly than the alternative (at least, while passing even more trivial tests of randomness).

Sometimes I’ll even use such generators on purpose, since for some applications a lower entropy generator that covers the while space more quickly can be quite valuable.

Probably. But I say it is more a math paradox than actually tech problem. Like the monty hall problem.

If I could have 1$ every time I heard this type of question the OP have on ARPG/MMORPG forum, I have enough money to buy a PS4.

I have no idea.

Yep… And no, that’s not where I am coming from.

The same topic comes up on the forum with every ARPG I played. People always wonder why a few of the same item drop at the same time and ask on the forum.

The reason I bring up the birthday parodox is because of this.

The probability of 2 people in a class of 30 with both birthday on january first may be really small. But the probability of 2 people actaully having the same birthday is really high.

It’s right, I don’t know if what you said is actually correct. But most likely there isn’t any problem with the RNG system. I think what you said is perfectly normal. Getting 2 truth in a row or have 3/5 people getting the same aqua breather.

Because think about it, getting 2 of a specific item is rare, but getting 2 of the same item in a row isn’t that rare.

edit: I was just typing out this message, and someone in my guild link the truth in guild chat! What a coincident!

I told people not to buy those inifnite aethereal tonic recipe for 1 gold. And some one was trying to sell it for 10,000 gold the other day… The price is back down to a few hundred golds, but I learned my lesson.

That being said, the molten tonic have a relatively low drop rate. I seen the supply at 300 during the events? and the price havn’t change much.

Some investor might have a few hundred maize balm recipe saved up. And a few of them might make it hard to move. There might even be investor willing to invest a few thousands gold in it. Compare that to the rarity of molten tonic which didn’t change price much, I’m not so sure price will spike that much.

But never under estimate the power of the hoarders. They can hoard items and drive the items up.

And some people’s trash might be another man’s treasure. I have no idea why some people might want to collect some recipe they never use. But there are people like that.

Hahaha. Hahahahahaha! Haha. Oh this is funny.

Ok. Ok. Phew. Ok.

So, at the crafting cost of 30 silver each, selling maizebalm will always come at a loss, right? But, hahahaha, ok ok… Sorry. But you know what the best part is? You can only craft 1 maize balm per day per account! Hahahahaha! You’d never get the 100g back before the next Halloween!

Trick or treat!

We are talking about the recipes for the maize balm, not the maize balm itself.
I already made over 400g profit on the recipes during the first buy out of supply.

Joke is on you.

Why would it? I didn’t buy an item you inflated for an hour through your post – from 5 to 458 gold to 7 gold. I was talking about the buyers of a recipe that will never make a profit. And yes, of course you made a profit, you’re the one who caused this bubble in the first place!

At least he’s not making rumor about flying pig mount that can be bought with candy corn….

Oh wait, he made similar rumor before with sprocket lol. But take it easy. People are always spaming rumors. I’m willing to take the risk. 100 gold isn’t a big deal to me. It just depends how many hundred if not thousands people stock up. I’m not sure how many Wanz stock up.

And my guess is you stock up on candy corn or bags too, that’s why you are talking about it. Someone says the dev talked about the number of candycorn drop during the events. It’s ridunculous. I can’ remember the number.

edit. Actually here is a quote 10’s of billions of candy corn. I’m not sure if that is actually number or figurative speech.

every limited event item most likely go up.

The difference is it can go up slowly and take a year by a little bit. Or it can go up a lot in very short time(like the poly necklace).

I still kick my self for not investing in the poly necklace(only bought 5). But I think there is some risk in it because Anet very likely just release another jewel upgrade with different stats or ascended value.

The maize balm is a bit hard to use. Because it’s not so easy to find ambient that are group so tidely together in which you can hit 3 each and have 3 groups. Even if you can find it, you have to wait for a high cooldown. My guess is it depend on ToT bag value, if it went up a bunch, Maize Balm is definately a good value.

Actually in the capital cities there are a number of places where ambients are tightly grouped with a fast respawn.

With a group of 5 players you can farm a good number of bags per hour at almost 0 cost. In fact you can even craft the maize balm at this point and still make a big profit using it.

well, the price crashed. I’m not sure how many stack I bought, like 30 probably at 8 silver.

I dont’ think there are that many dedicated people grouping up to farm it. Quite honestly with the respawn of the city, you make more money just harvesting.

I didn’t even farm it that much resetting the rat instance.

If I ever started to farm again, I might mix in with my regular mining route. The respawn is really the main problem. You need to know a bunch of place with ambient and just park alt there to make it effective.

I think it’s mostly wording. Monoploly and manipulation is sort of negative words. Some players get defensive if those words is used on GW2 since they are so passionate about GW2, they felt they need to defend it.

And the use of words such as set/control the price. People would argue Anet dont’ set the price, because players do. But anet control the drop rate, use of items which can change the price. So it is better to say anet control the price. Which some people still argue against it.

Arguing weather the economy is player driven, Anet influence. Or Anet driven, player influence is quite pointless.

you can just go play fractal. You get enough people complaining about the reward for fractal already. “Oh what’s the point of fractal, you get so much better rewards for dungeon…”

The classic never ending loophole debate just running in circle.

Crowd 1: Anet set the drop rate…. Crowd 2: But player set the price!!!!

Crowd 2: The player set the price… Crowd 1: But Anet set the drop rate!!!

I dont’ know what people is arguing. Anet set the drop rate. Players set the price

Most of them are really expensive compare to the rewards you get. I personally like the karmic converter myself. But it cost like 700 gold to get(probably cheaper now)

Treasure hunter… I think cost like 1000 gold to get it. And give you a daily chest with stuff that is worth 10 silver every day.

Exotic hunter- Gives you karmic converter. You can use 5000 karma to buy daily items everyday. I kind of like this one. Usually it is 3 obsidian shard for 5000 karma everyday. Some times you get 5 or 7 but that’s rare. You also have chance to get various other rewards. Check google. Cost about 700 gold to get it.

Ascended armor- If you get all 18 piece of armor(6 for each class), you get to choose from a list of exotic weapons. Usually people pick arthropoda or crustacea which is worth 150 gold.

I dont’ know. But seeing the PAX interview in 2013. There is probably no new gear tier after ascended for a while. So I would be suprised if they introduced new lvl90 gear with better stats.

Good luck everyone.

Simplicity helps people get into the game faster. Almost all other MMOs use a level based system to unlock skills. If you don’t believe Anet studied their own data to figure that out and make a determined change to get more players in the game longer, then I don’t think any kind of discussing, number evidence or comparisons, will change our mind.

I think it is more like Anet in personal denial. They could follow the blue print like every other game use from the start.

And now they start making raid CDI.

I like many of the way GW2 is designed. I just hope they put more thoughts on how to expand the game.

Good luck everyone.

Problem is, Tolunart, is that I was 100% new to MMO’RPG’*

If this is your first mmorpg, you dont’ know what mmorpg players have to put up with for the last 10 years.

I can assure you GW2 is one of the best mmorpg released in the past 10 years. And I really appreciate what Anet have done.

It is just not easy to make a mmorpg that is supposely to keep a player playing forever.

well, the leveling phase of most themepark game really felt like a single player game to me. That’s just the way it is.

I personally actually hate having too much people around because there are lesser monster to kill for doing renown heart etc. Obviously there are also times where I need to kill a champ and hope there are people around…

And GW2 is actually one of the games I actually see people around during leveling. Because of the mega server.

Well, the developer of every mmorpg out there determine the drop rate. They create the virtual world which they envision. And they have full control of drop rate.

That’s a fact, but I’m not sure why the OP make it sounds like it is so controversial.

One of the TOP themepark mmorpg on the market now. That being said, many people just attribute it to the lack of competition. Because to them all other game studio are kitten too. So they continue to bash GW2. Because being a top mmorpg isn’t good enough.

Many people consider GW2 the best 30$ they ever spend on entertainment. People are able to play thousands of hours on GW2 without ever paying more.

Many people consider GW2 dont’ have an endgame. Which is controversial. Because many people are able to have thousands of hours of playtime. That being said, most people probably say that because other mmorpg provides better endgame either in terms of content or progression.

As a 2 year old game. Many people are complaining about the game getting stale. I rarely see that many people complain about the lack of content on a mmorpg forum this much. That being said, being B2P is probably one of the reason. In a subscription game, when the game gets stale, people usually just quit, so they stop complaining on the forum. As a game without monthly fee, players are more likely to drag along, and keep playing/complaining on the forums.

Really nice casual mmorpg. Only 1 gear tier. So you won’t be left behind because you didn’t chase after the latest tier of gear.

End game rewards consists of cool looking skins, which were mostly gotten by using a huge sum of gold or real life money. Many people who are after those cool looking skins felt it is really grindy to farm gold.

To become a rich person in GW2 without farming. You mostly have to focus on finding ways to flip or invest using the trading post.

GW2 dont’ lock any content behind gear tier or grind. So you can do almost every content immediately when you reach level80 in basic gear.

Game do sometimes felt unrewarding. To me the best reward for grinding in an mmorpg, have always been content. I’m willing to farm a dungeon so I can do harder dungeon. But that’s not the case in GW2. There’s no content hiding behind gear tier. Fractal is the only content that have some grind.

While most traditional mmorpg try to keep their pve players by dungeon grind. Release new dungeon tier every few month to half a year. GW2 didn’t try to do that.

Most AAA mmorpg release their expansion or information on new expansion within 2 years mark. But GW2 have yet to release any information. No one have a clear idea the future or road map of the game since the developer choose not to release any information.
