Im all for Balance, but

I’ve played every class. You shouldn’t have deleted your thief. If you played it longer, you would know that you are not untouchable in stealth. You are invisible, that’s it. Knowing that you can assume where the thief is going to be and what they’re doing. You can lay down attacks and kill them, you can use mist form so they can’t backstab you and their stealth wears out. You can even dodge it.

Now, if I was using a staff, I’d probably be dead. Plain and simple, some builds don’t work in 1v1, like a staff Ele. That isn’t unbalance. That’s rock being better than scissors.

I’ve been killed by thieves and I’ve killed plenty of them too. If you think there’s nothing you can do, the problem is you, not the class.

I love this kind of posts where players which play/played thieves tells us that stealth is not so OP because they can assume where the thief is going/will be so by hitting the air with your weapons thief can be killed yes… WTH is this bullcrap the assume thing ?
its like lottery I assume there will be numbers 561166214 well I am not a millionaire yet

End this idea called "Balance". (heavy read)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: matemaster.2168

matemaster.2168

I see alot of people complaining that there is a major lack of balance in this game. The story usually turns out as the original poster recently getting outplayed by something, perhaps multiple times in a row, which irritates them enough to make the player log onto the forums and post their complaints. Bandwagoners and anyone else with a small personal vendetta jumps in to support the poster as well.

The term that’s almost guaranteed to be used in this kind of thread is ""overpowered"

Whats the difference ?
Thief will say that he is skilled thus he outplayed other player. Other player will say that thief is overpowered. Who is right ? How can you measure the outplay thing ? Do you have input data from the other player so you can count down that you outplayed him ? NO
But what all have is the game mechanics (combat, skills, classes…) and you can compare those regarding to all classes and by this comparision you can actually get to the result that some classes are OP in some aspect of the game
got it ?

Why are Thieves so awful?

in WvW

Posted by: matemaster.2168

matemaster.2168

thieves are seems skilled because there is no way to punish them when they dont kill you on first attempt
here’s why
thieves use initiative instead of cooldowns on weapon skills converting initiative to CD I will get the 8sec the longest weapon skill CD
there is also this problem when enough of initiative I can spam the same skill again and again
So what happens… thief attack me he screws and dont manage to kill me → hide in shadow → wait 10sec → attack again… Thief can again use any ability, I cannot (cool downs up to 45sec on some weapon skills)
That is the main problem with thieves

PVT (soldiers) vs Zerker? Math Time!

@Yumiko Ishida.3769

% crit chance (from precision) is math. rounded so that means that the best to have is X.51 % you dont see that in game stats but it works like that because it will be rounded up to X+1
On the other hand X.49% will be rounded down to X
SO
in the first case the excess of crit over 0.50% you can “convert” those by lowering precision and rising other stat (example i dont need 40.49% crit chance when 39.51% is the same. So you can get rid off 20pts of precision and get 20pts to other stat)

@OP
Its not worth when you doing it blindly
There is somwhere on net xls where you can exactly build your character on paper (xls) its not problem then to almost exactly count the damage with individual skills, weapons (with 95% accuracy) so then you can count the actual DPS

But back on the full zerker you asked
There are two important values to consider.
First is effective power
Second is effective defense
Then there is max effective power of you class (full zerk, and trait build)
Then there is max effective defense of your class (full vit+tough+healing)

So then you can calculate the effective power/defence % from the max values your class can have
Then you can compare that increasing the effective power by x% will decrease your effective defense by y% or vice versa. So you can decide if the increase is worth or not.
Bassicaly what I found out the best is to find perfect balance for those two so when you count them you get the highest number

Seems like a troll thread. Either that or OP just got roflstomped by a thief 5 hours ago and is having a knee-jerk reaction.

My advice, if you are willing to listen, is to try some confusion, retaliation, and/or some blocking cooldowns. The initiative mechanic is designed for bursting. Use other game mechanisms to counter and punish the thief’s burst.

its not a troll thread
and I beat bad thieves but I cant beat skilled thieves
the encounter goes like this I am attacked by invisible thief (obviously) I am able react in such I way (using def abilities) that I am able to counter the initial burst and start to beatdown the thief now the bad thief panics and usually I kill him or he just runaway
Now the skilled thief immediately recognize the initial burst countered and he just stealths away waits for the initiative to replenish and attack me again with all the arsenal he has at his dispoasal and here’s the problem I cant properly react on this second attack as my def ability/ies are on cooldown
Thats the reason why thieves are broken.

I am just pointing out that the most basic mechanics in the game apply to all classes except thieves which I think is not OK

If Anet had this ridiculous idea to copy WoW rogue energy based mechanics and call it initiative then I want to see
Elementalists/necro’s/guardians to use mana pool and remove coodowns
warriors/rangers to use rage and remove cooldowns

8 GB RAM 1600mhz corsair
SSD OCZ vertex 3
win 7 64bit

I run gw2 1920*1080 maxed details
The thing is that I use tridef soft to run the game in real 3D which eats around 50% of the FPS

in LA I get arround 12-20 fps (24-35fps with tridef off) here I dont care about fps
in Aetherblade Retreat i get 14-23 fps (around 30 fps tridef off)
in WvW I get like 20-30 fps (around 40fps trideff off)
in other dungeons I get arround 30-40 fps (around 60fps tridef off)

How to gain gold with craft?

in Crafting

Posted by: matemaster.2168

matemaster.2168

Cooking is very profitable. You must do a lot of research beforehand, but once you have finished researching, you can easily stockpile materials until you can craft a decent portion of them, then sell them for profit. Again, you must do your research beforehand to find out what is profitable and what isn’t, and also finding profit margins. There are many recipes which I’ve thought about doing, but have less than a 0.5% return, offering mere coppers for the price of golds (and not even guaranteed).

Remember, any sale you try to make is not guaranteed, so don’t go all in when profiting off of anything. It’s better to spread around your resources. If I could gurantee I make 10c off of a sale that that’s 50s, then I would use that in addition to my other sources of income, I wouldn’t rely on that as my only source of income.

cooking is dead

food market destroyed

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: matemaster.2168

matemaster.2168

the inflation will be the result of the destroyed crafting market

The only way to make gold now is
getl lucky on RNG
creating new gold by farminf CoF = inflation

I get the big picture now
Take for example the crystaline dust price problem. Before the ecto salvage it costed around 30s. The crystaline dust is used mainly (I think) to craft superior sharpening stones and master maintanance oils.
But what anet did ? They increased the cost to make those most used consumables from 1 crystaline dust to 3 crystaline dusts. So now crafting those will be maybe even more expensive than before ecto salvage (34.5s for 3 dusts vs 30s for 1 dust).

Inflation is good for Anet because the prices will go up and causual players (the core largest group of playerbase) wont have enough gold for anything because creating (grinding) gold takes lots of time

You actually managed to do it...

This “the entire rest of the economy has deflated completely” effect you speak of, I do not see at all.

The items you listed here as an example of stable economy have drop rate within like 0.01% to 1%
The core players of GW2 are causuals (like me) so they wont farm them (DR mechanics…)
They are very stable (because of RNG ofc) as you said so there is no point of buying and resseling them

So what was your point to compare them to crafted food market where you could make some profit ?

yes the crafted food market (omnomberry products and other ones) is collapsing because of the cheap supplement food from dragon bash

This cheap dragonbash food is the most devastating blow to the high level food crafters.
High level food crafting was a steady but low (10% margin average) source of income for me and other food crafters as some high level foods were allways in demmand

Now we can expect high level crafted food market to collapse. Its allready started with omnombery dropping to the historic minimum prices on TP and will continue to

Lets compare omnomberry pie (av price 3.50) vs Slice of Candied Dragon Roll (av price 0.32)
There are like 3.9mil Zhaitaffy in supply on TP and rising thats almost 800K dragon bash foods

Anet you have just destroyed crafted food market
