Once upon a time there was a beta where people got wiped because of hard it was, so those adventurers came to a forum called GW2-forum and complained…and complained until a lovely company called Anet nerfed the whole game and made it casual.

Megaserver will never be removed, suggesting it is just a waste of time. It feels weird that they have the option by default tbh but yea and a simple option to turn it on or off is more than enough.

uhh, no. not really. Just because you hide it with a fancy chat filter doesnt mean the whole vile name calling will stop happening. all it does is covering it up.

Though maybe it is becasue the playerbase is trash and can’t respect others rather than Anet’s fault that humanity can’t be respectful?

Why Guild Wars 2 isn't Too Casual

nGumball.1283

And lastly, Guild Wars 2 has become the most gindest MMO out now.

Clearly has not played STO

Ok, maybe an over exaggeration about being the most, but taking a look at where Guild Wars 2 was before the grind came in, yea its nothing but a grind fest now which is really my point.

Guild Wars 2 was created to be a casual game where people can spend their time now and then however the playerbase was crazy enough to stay around and ask for more…Anet delivered a system where you can grind for AP or skins and feel rewarded. The game doesn’t require grind, it is there for the people who want it.

On the other hand, if you are speaking about the perfect game where content is fun and challenging, encouraging people to play all the time without any grind…well, I guess that’s just the fantasy-bubble of every MMO-gamer and you won’t get what you want anytime soon. There is no huge play-time without grind and there is no grind without huge play-time, that’s how MMOs are.

PS. Please, I don’t want any comments like ‘’WoW kept players playing’’ becaue we all know that WoW forced its playerbase to grind which is a whole another story. Also, all the ‘’GW1 was great’’ comments are also flawed becasue wether GW1 fanbase have to accept it or not, GW1 wasn’t an MMORPG…not only said by players but by market professionals and Anet themselves.

They will bring back everything someday I believe. With the wardrobe system, many people are playing the collector’s game where they are racing to get everything there and while it may seem hard, many people really wanna do it.

Re-introducing all the pervious skins for a short period of time is gonna make them some great amount of profit.

nGumball.1283

Guild Wars 2 was meant to be a casual game from the very start as you mentioned but people can’t accept it. Anet is a gaming company and even if they appreciate their art, they still work to get money and if they wanted the game to be hardcore, the model would have been different.

On a sidenote GW2 during betas was hard however there were 10 pages of threads on this forum about how punishing the game was, asking for a nerf and they got it.

Here is what I don’t understand about the complaints. Open world leveling content has to be tuned for the new player with their first character still learning how to play the game. If you already know how to play the game, that content is already going to be easy. If you also have a reasonably strong trait build that supports your skill and weapon selections, and have good gear with supporting attributes, that same content is now going to be stupidly easy. And you can’t make the content hard enough to be interesting to that player on an alt without making is way to difficult for the new player still wet behind their ears.

TLDR: Early trait points just make lower level difficulty even less challenging for experienced players on alts.

Most people who complain though are veteran players. I do understand how many new people have commented and said it sucks but I do honestly not believe that most of those people are new. Yes, I maybe misjudging, I maybe the worst humanbieng ever…but I am not really used to the fact that new players seem to understand builds, have followed all the updates to the game since months, are vets when it comes to other aspects of the game and then put an ending line ‘’I am still level 45 and I am not enjoying the game becasue of the trait change’’.

So you used to have 15 traits and now he has 20? no offense but your comment is there just to create drama and the people who upvoted you either don’t play the game are pure haters cause the post doesn’t even make sense.

You are the one that doesn’t understand the new system. The traits are not just condensed from 5 points to 1 trait, they are delayed until level 30. At level 11, you started gaining traits, which means you got a trait at 16, 21, 26, 31, 36, 41, etc. So a level 41 player had access to 6 traits already. Actual traits, not just trait points. Traits that he could select based on his playstyle preferences, traits that made playing the game and leveling more interesting. (“Do I want to produce clones when I dodge? Do I want to get vigor when I use a shout?”)

Now, this same player on level 41 has access to 2 traits. Cause he got a trait at 30, and one at 36. TWO traits. He used to have many interesting gameplay choices by that point already, he had experienced compelling character and playstyle progression already. Now he has access to two godkitten traits, just like a 21 character previously did. You now feel as powerful as a level 20 character when you’re level 40, and your playstyle is as interesting and varied as back when you were level 20.

This is very clearly a push for the hardcore grindy oriented Asian market. I hope it’ll get them enough revenue to cancel out the mass exodus of Western players who came to this game under the promise that there won’t be boring grind.

I do understand it very well and I can’t understand how the said player who is complaining had 15 traits before the patch and suddenly got 20 after it and yet complains. Meaning, that he commented without even bothering to understand the system and he just posted a random number to support his rage or he basically leveled up afte the patch but due to not understanding the system thought 20 points is less than 15.

Otherwise, while you may think it is going for boring grind, other may think it is a way to take it easy for a while and understand the game isntead of rushing to 80 with everything being introduced at the same time.

People reach 80 without udnerstanding anything in the game, perhaps introducing stuff step by step is a solution and while you may see it as grind, others may see it as challenging where you need to have a harder time, putting more effort into choosing ur weapons and skills for a better outcome.

PS. My bad, didn’t notice the ’’trait’’ not ‘’trait-points’’ reference. Sorry.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the Megaserver tech currently only activated for Heart of the Mists?

Patch notes seems to suggest as such, with them planning on rolling it out to lower areas once they’ve collected enough data.

You are wrong, the decided to jump straight into the deep end and started to drown, most zones are now mega servers, any zone that has a world event will auto convert to mega server for said event, so if there is 1 you need get to that map early or face the overflow until its completed, there are several topics on this already on the forums, you gotta know how Anet do things by now, they say 1 thing and then do what they want.

And the players don’t even read or see things yet they complain without understanding the real issue. Anet announcned the areas included in the Megaserver, if you can’t read, I doubt it is their problem.

Oh I cant read huh, FUNNY I don’t see Mount Maelstrom on that list, yet its on the mega server rotation, dun dun dun, so it is their problem when its not working, megaserver on paper probably looks great, but when you throw every server in NA or EU into 1 map and the event is BUGGED and NO ONE can get the reward they cant even guest to a working server, so yes its 100% their problem.

and you suggest to remove it…because a new feature isn’t working well in an MMO?

Feedback/Questions: MegaServer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nGumball.1283

In one fell swoop Arenanet trivialized open world PvE content even more, destroyed the community, and tripled map load times for NO REASON AT ALL.

I like pretty much every other part of the new patch but the megaserver needs to be cancelled and sent back to the drawing board.

Technically they did have reason, the bottom 10-15 servers on NA where dead servers, but by doing the mega server they never had to admit it, because now they can say each map is full, the serious lack of reply from Anet on this topic is disturbing, its like they see 100 negative comments about it, and see 1 positive comment and run with the positive one and declare the new idea a success, they ignore its completely destroyed communities, some guilds, world events, the list goes on and on, will we getr a reply, I wouldn’t count on it to be honest, will they fix it, HELL NO because then they have to admit fault, remember folks you are testing these updates for the China release, as if its successful out there they don’t need us.

You would be amazed how messed up the game became after listening to the player-base and today GW2 is far more flawed thanks to those suggestions that set it behind and changed the philosphy behind the game.

People have to stop being ignorant and accept that GW2 isn’t about you or him or her, it is about a whole community and just becaue you see negative comments in the forums, doesn’t mean, the player-base think it is bad…no it means that GW2 forums are negative like they always are becasue people only come here to whine and other communities created for GW2 may have other reactions.

Yes, Anet make mistakes, yes, the mega-server may be a failure, but I want ot players, for once…just for once, that just because you think it is a failure doesn’t mean it is in reality and while you may not like it, there are those who are loving it.

I know a lot of people are upset with some of the changes, but try and understand the reasons from the developer point of view and allow for some things to be readjusted as necessary.

some of the changes that people aren’t liking will possibly be further tweaked with hotfixes, just give it time.

The best you all can do is provide calm and detailed feedback like some have already been doing. It is possible that they had overlooked some things and all of you will do a better job at finding the issues than a small team would be able to.

Feedback:

Anet nerfed my characters into the dirt today by taking away almost all Traits my characters had earned. I am not a good enough Player to reach level 80. That’s right, I am not good enough at this game… but I love parts of GW2 enough that I had kept the game installed so I could return one day.
Well today I log in and my highest character, lvl 51 ELE has four traits out of the over 15 he used to have. FOUR. I was having a hard enough time as it is.

Anet doesn’t want People like me playing their MMO. Anet must want the Players that can breeze through leveling content to 80, which I admit I have had a hard time doing. Without those traits, and the benefits I each of my characters got from them, the game is now beyond my abilities.

These changes were great for the gazillion lvl 80s, but not good for Players that have a hard time with this game. Anet decided whom their preferred customers are and I am not on the list.

I am not rage quitting, I just realize I don’t belong here and there is no sense in holding out hope I might play GW2 again.

Feedback Given. Resigned from Guild. All Characters deleted. Game Uninstalled.

So you used to have 15 traits and now he has 20? no offense but your comment is there just to create drama and the people who upvoted you either don’t play the game are pure haters cause the post doesn’t even make sense.

I thought Guild Wars 2 would be getting content updates like Guild Wars 1. Now that isn’t/hasn’t happened and I feel like I’ve been tricked. Seriously… where’s the expansion?

Guild Wars 1 After 12 months:
- 240 new skills
-90 new Elite skills
-2 new proffesions
-1 new World map
-4 new guild halls
-13 new co-op missions
-5 new challenge missions
-2 new elite missions
-2 competitive missions
-200+ new quests
-New PvP Alliance battles
-New elite area Sorrow’s Furnace
-New elite area The Underworld
-New elite area Fissure of Woe
-New elite area the Deep
-New elite area Urgoz’s Warren

Guild Wars 1 After 18 Months: All of the above+
-350 new skills
-110 new elite skills
-2 new proffesions
-1 new World Map
-4 new Guild Halls
-20 new missions
-3 new challenge missions
-1 new elite mission
-250+ quests
-Heros!
-PvP hero Battles
-new elite Area Domain Of Anguish

GW2 after 18 months:
-Scarlet
-Southsun cove
-Fractals
-2 new heal skills
-1 new dungeon path

I probably missed stuff but you get the idea.

Aside from the fact that GW2 have had at least 50-100 other features added to the game since release that you either didn’t notice or aren’t interested of and therefore didn’t mention, well… an expansion would be nice.

I would like to praise ANet with every post I can write every 10 mins, but with this patch? I do not know where to start, but praising is not part of it.

Apparently though, you have seen what is coming and you have been active enough to bash the patch on every thread you could find the last weeks. It isn’t something new if you will start bashing again here.

I feel like this is one of the few sane posts on these forums. Everywhere else there are people praising arenanet for removing the ability to run champion trains, nerfing the already incredibly poor dungeon loot, and essentially charging you to reuse skins you’ve bought prior. And we can’t forget that nerf to the berserker armor that doesn’t change the game in any meaningful way, outside of making it so coordinated groups take slightly more time to complete a dungeon.

I think the comparison to “battered wife syndrome” is an clever one, considering the amount of people on these forums that are praising arenanet for such asinine, pointless changes in favor of actual balance and permanent content.

This update would’ve been mediocre if AT LEAST the wardrobe didn’t require you to purchase something to use skins you’ve already bought, but it’s worse than mediocre at this point.

Something tells me this thread will be removed either way. Can’t have anyone criticizing poor development choices or business practices, no siree.

Apparently you haven’t checked the forums at all before this post. GW2 forums is created specifically to hate on the company and complain, 90% of the threads are whining ones and people who have positive feedback, don’t bother checking the forums.

This thread is no different than the +1000 others complaining about the living story and lack of permenant content. People have to accept it, Anet took a path and wanted to try it and they did, that’s what this lovely MMO-industry asked for: innovation. If you want new things, you have to accept experimenting and if you can’t accept experimenting, GW2 isn’t your game.

Just play until the day GW2 die or you don’t like it anymore, come to the forum for feedback, suggestions and complaints, but for this kind of questions you will probably never get an answer.

I’ve given up telling people I’m not Vayne, they can believe what they want. He doesn’t particularly like me anyway, which is why I find this so amusing.

I don’t know you. You seem like a fine guy to me. I actually admire the passion you have for this game. I feel the same way for other hobbies in my life. None of this is about you personally. I just don’t agree with how you defend the game on nearly every front. You seem to have an excuse for almost every short coming included in this game.

There was actually plenty of times I thought about messaging you in game because I know you’re a good guy and could have possibly made my game experience much better, as I was playing by myself in a guild by myself. I tried guilds, but was unable to find one mature enough to suit me. I really want it to be known that I actually think very highly of you.
It just seems like you are on call 24/7 to defend ArenaNet at the slightest hint of negativity.
Ps
you made a post on reddit about how you quit the forums right when you made the post here as vayne. Your name on reddit was the same as this one.

You don’t take into consideration that GW2 forums have some of the most offensive people in the community, bashing everyone from the game, to the company to the players playing the game.

As a forum made for complaints, this is where GW2 gets bashed and this is where some players who have time try to prove the opposite.

While I respect your opinion, you can’t bash him for defending if you will ignore the others who bash because the ones who bash are filling this forum and they are btw the same people, both here and on reddit and their names are quite popular for being anti-GW2.

While listening is good, going by their own vision is important. The player-base will never be happy and they will never please everyone, re-working everything over and over is a cycle that will never end, since there will always be players complaining about how the system works.

LOL you guys.

What does it matter about which game is better? Is it really that big of a deal? I know you want to represent and stand beside the game you enjoy the most but give it a break.

Since this is a GW2 forum, of course other games are going to get bashed but that doesn’t make them right.

At the same time some of you say ESO is generic, cheap, lame, whatever else you want to label it, people on the other side say the same thing. So what?

It really is apples and oranges. GW2=F2P Rated Teen
ESO= Sub Rated Mature
Both entirely different settings and styles.

As far as the cost of a sub? It ranges from .44 cents to .50 cents a day. Being a “lead-foot” on the gas pedal of a vehicle costs more a day in gas, or a cup of coffee, or a candy bar for that matter.

Quality content sells, regardless of how the cost is presented, whether F2P or Sub.

Just for the record. Unless someone here has direct sales and game population data, then it’s just subjective to say the game has gained or lost population.

I for one don’t play anymore, but with the 50percent discount, newcomers are sure to arrive.

One MMO coming out, or two, isn’t going to solely kill GW2 population.

What will however, is poorly designed content or lack of content in general (i.e, new zones.) GW2 will either die the testament of old age, or suffer the hammer from corporate decisions or poor content before losing to another MMO.

(To the person regarding ESO voice over: For any large MMORPG to VO every quest is a feat in any book, and what lacks in GW2 quests by far. Some of the VO in ESO has been astounding to say the least, but its subjective regardless. If GW2 used VO like Taimi and Rytlock more often in their quests, it would bring a better immersion experience, but meh.)

You have got totally backwards. GW2 forums is the place where GW2 gets bashed the most.

People never like change. This is what the gaming companies should realize. Yes they ask for innovation, for changes to the world, for new mechanics and ideas, yet when they come, they always complain about how the old was so beautiful and how what they awaited was something else.

This is human-nature, not even exclusive to gaming and it is one of two, either the player-base should stop asking for any innovation and go play the old content over and over, or they should try to accept the new and go on with it.

We won’t know until after the patch whether the low-level maps are also low-population maps.

Low level zones are gonna be the ones to be included in the meta server first however, every single area in GW2 is gonna follow sooner or later [ unless they find issues with the ’’beta’’ they are running with the mega server or people simply bash it enough ].

Are you ready for the Megaserver?

I’ve been wondering… I play TESO now to check it out, and noticed they have 1 server for all European players + there are no instances separated by logging screens like in GW2, e.g. Queensdale/Kessex etc. etc.
Would it be possible to do the same for GW2? It’s so nice and smooth to see you don’t need to cross some funny portal/logging screens and simply walk around a huge unlimited space with millions of people.
Do you guys think it would be possible for GW2?

That’s called a seamless world.

Don’t hold your breath for it happening any time soon.

Well, they’re introducing a ‘megaserver’ thing like in ESO already, so maybe it’ll happen someday!^^

Only that the megaserver system was functioning in Guild Wars cities, 8 years ago.

Guild Wars 2 is starting to head in the right direction and Anet promised other feature patches to be coming alongside LS2. If Anet do those two projects correctly, they will have enough time to announce and release a possible expansion.

At the end of the day, wether it is an expansion or not, it was confirmed that a huge portion of Anet’s 350-man team is working on 2 massive projects behind the scenes. If anything, we could see one of these or possibly both getting released in the near future.

I would love to see a source on the large portion of A.Net team working on something.

The developers have repeatedly stated that they never want to create an expansion and that if they can get the bi-weekly release schedule down then all the content coming down the pipe both big and small are going to be released in such a way.

So far I think A.Net is really coming along nicely with how they are updating the game and the direction they are taking it in. They don’t quite have their formula down for how they want to do things. But I think it’s clear that they have a clear goal and are making great progress towards it.

Check EuroGamer and IGN interviews with Colin. I will link it if I find the articles :/
Also, the ‘’we don’t want expansions’’ is an old statement, Colin explained newly [ interviews from 2014 ] that just because LS is up doesn’t mean the team isn’t working on something else and therefore he states that they are already working on huge projects behind the scenes that will have traditional expansion content like new zoens, races, classes etc.

He explains that they are working on projects aside from LS and have been for a while however how they will release this content is yet un-known.

What does anything you just said have to do with the difference of ACTIVE players and NON-active players? Server populations are based on how many accounts are registered to that server, so please tell me how your huge paragraph had anything to do with what we are talking about.

We are discussing the situation of a game, chill instead of being ignorant, I am just trying to explain my point of view, being disrespectful doesn’t really help.

The game during beta was hard to the point, forums were filled with complaints about how punishing it was. If Anet ever adds hard content, it will be exclusive to specific areas or instances. They won’t repeat the mistake of a hard-mode open world cause it isn’t accepted by the majority of the players.

You are all forgetting one thing, just because a server says “HIGH population” does not mean its Active players, it is just the number of accounts made on that server.

the real question you should be asking ANET is, how many ACTIVE players are in the game.

GW2 boasts about millions of players, well i don’t see millions of anything but empty space

No MMO expect WoW and Eve have a growing player-base. On the other hand, GW2 has one of the biggest populations in the western MMO market. For a game, highly considered casual, it is a miracle how populated the servers are and how WvW queues can take up to 3 hours, almost 2 years after release.

Anet added alot of things to the game since release, something that alot of people totally ignore since they are focused on new zones, classes and such, however, they may have learned by this point that LS alone doesn’t make the player-base happy even if the concept is unique.

A better LS2 with additional feature patches (it was confirmed taht features patches will keep coming) and an expansion announcement in the coming months will blow up the game’s popularity again.

While many people on this forum fancy to bash on the game and it is understandable since that’s why we a have an official forum, GW2 is considered to be the leading MMO in the western market atm, wether becaue it is a quality title or other games are simply bad and both points are accurate. At the end of the day, Anet has an amazing chance now to reveal what they promised, the projects half of their 350-man team have been working on behind the scenes.

GW2 may as well enter a golden age and instead of empty complaints and drama threads, people may want to focus on feedback. The MMO industry has alot of surpriseshowever, aside from Everquest, there is nothing that can threaten the massivness of GW2 by this point and it will still remain the most, commercially sucessful game since WoW, until Everquest changes that or some other games in the future.

Where are you looking for those numbers?

Look at the server list. If you are guesting a lot you notice that quite some server went from “very high” to “high” there recently

It was confirmed servereal times that the population is counted by registered accounts, not active ones, meaning the change is probably caused by Anet tweaking the server-system, prepearing for the mega-one.

WoW started to die 10 years ago too.

3.5 years ago is more accurate. Maybe you’re referring to the first time you heard someone ask if WoW was dying, but in reality it had explosive player expansion pretty much steadily until late 2010 when Cata beta drama and the wind down of ICC jump started it’s inevitable decline.

It was a sarcastic comment directed towards ‘’this game is dying’’ threads. Whenever someone isn’t statisfied with a game, they start posting ‘’omg this is dying’’ and WoW got its first dozen of those few months after release.

I think, enjoying a game or just switching to something else, is far better than wasting time, creating threads like the following.
