Never tried a guardian really, just fought against alot of them.
The burst! THE BURST!!!
2 closer leaps!! Blinds!!
The heals!! A ranged 2 sec knockdown signet!!
That greatsword pull and the spin. It’s like mobile aoe HBs…
All this damage, same toughness as my warrior and 21k hps….
And more….I was actually pretty amazed there was all that in once package. Of course this is why I will never go toe to toe with assault guardians….just poke poke poke and wait for the right moment to HB frenzy them.
I just wasn’t fully aware of the level of dps they’re capable of combined with some great utility. (that signet heal makes me weep at the warriors heal signet….).
Cloak and dagger is the problem tbh.
It’s a 5k hit combined with vulnerability + 3 secs of stealth (4 traited).
It costs 5-6 initiative so i’m sure whoever made it thought , ‘well, they’ll only be able to use this every so often….’
Not so!!! With initiative regen it’s pretty much usable every 3 seconds if you spam the 1st attack key button. Spam 1, drop caltrops, c+d, rinse and repeat.
Could you imagine if someone said ’ Well you can have eviscerate, it’s on a 5 second timer, it will hit for 5-6 k each time though. And you become unhittable for 4 seconds afterwards…..’
You’d say ’ that sounds ridiculous.’.
I just think if you hit something which is in stealth, it should pop out of stealth. Like every other single game in existence…..there;s a reason for that mechanic, when it doesn’t exist you become far too strong (just like thieves ate atm).
We have ‘top’ teams in gw2?
I can’t tell since there are no league tables, no championships, no MLG involvement, no IGN tourneys….in fact no anything..
So for all intensive purposes i’m claiming to be the top player in GW2, as is my team, in which I play all 5 players.
Wow!!
People calling other people ‘randoms’ and not ‘worth while’!
Amazing, for a game which is..well a game, not an esport, not even close to being an esport and honestly the pvp scenarios are just laughable at best regarding class use and tactics.
I understand why twitch had about 5 GW2 streams running last time I was browsing and about 30 viewers….(also reminds me why LoL is just so much better for competitive play).
Great graph, good job that man.
Shows what I thought though regarding warriors. You get alot of lowbis, who just want to try the HB+charge+frenzy combo, but when they realise that the warrior is actually pretty fragile, and getting that combo off is actually very hard nowadays as most decent players are prepared for it, they just go to the easier mode classes (guardian, mesmer…)
Rangers are a good class, just pointless to have in pvp as they bring nothing to the table.
Iljumper has the biggest hard on for nerfing warriors for some reason.
But good job on pointing out bugged blade trail. I’m still yet to have this bug fire for me. It’s quite dissapointing really.
You do know thieves have access to anytime 5k steals, and 5k c+ds on no cool down. Then they have the 11k backstabs..
So yes…keep going though. I enjoy seeing your ‘Warrior does 1 million damage ! Leave thieves alone!!!’ posts.
That insane warrior damage must explain why I see hotjoins full of warriors…oh wait, that’s thieves!
I agree Cog.
I just feel that ceratin weapon sets need some work. They are just too lacking in what they do.
I just get the overall feel that some weapon sets were designed purely with pve in mind. The blocks in sword5 and mace 2 are just too lacklustre. Axe 2 is just 2 secs of fury!
A whole host of single target, short lived effects on long timers on the whole, or things which are easily avoidable.
Ahh well….
How so?
How did you build up the adrenaline?
If it’s with mace then your dps just dropped a shed load.
So you have your 3 bars built, hit mace adrenal and switch to Hb, the time to switch over and hit Hb is still 0.5 secs, so you end up with 1.5 secs to execute HB. Maybe a few swings at most?
There has to be good reason to spend adrenaline. You lose your 10 percent crit bonus, 12 percent extra damage and adrenal heals (in my case anyway), all that for a 2 sec stun?…
Least with hammer its Aoe and has a closer.
@Schwahrheit.
Ok, let’s assume you start the fight with the greatsword. You build up adrenaline to the 3 bars and switch to mace. You have to wait 5-10 seconds before you can use the adrenal stun to switch back to HB or you end up following the stun with mace 1, which is poor dps.
So that’s 5-10 seconds spent of not really damaging your target. Pretty much any weapon is better than mace as your GS compliment.
The reason I go sword is because I find I need the leap and snare to keep on my target/get away from opponents. Mace gives you no options to close people down.
Sword flurry is a 4 sec root, that is an eternity. Sword 1 actually does pretty good damage and bleeds allowing you to fire off any sigils on your sword moreso than a mace.
In spvp it’s just far more zergy so I prefer to have escape options open, same as in WvW. In Tpvp axe is better than sword just to get bunkers down.
I’ve tried every weapon combo, and certain ones just don’t cut it. Stability kills the mace line i’m afraid, and I see alot of stability in matches.
I can’t live without shield (I trait it with reflect).
That block is the difference between a win and a loss.
If you use reflect correctly you can end up making the enemy hit themselves for 5k+ damage without laying a finger on them.
The shield stun could do with an increased range, amount of stun for the timer it’s on though.
Nice to see i’m not the only one having ele issues, and that we agree that warriors are easiest to deal with.
I’ve always thought condition durations should be capped at 5 seconds maybe.
I’ve often been left with 30 second snares on me after some fights or 30 second poisons.
Kok man, after looking at your previous posts I have no idea what you play (elementalist maybe?)
I’m not claiming anything. It’s just my list as i’ve come across them in various 1v1’s. After playing enough pvp to reach rank 30 you get a jist of which classes are problematic.
To address your points.
1) I just find warriors easy to beat. Across the board. Maybe it’s because I know what they’re going to do (probably), and what to avoid.
2) The pet really? Ranger pets are terrible. Everyone knows it, they play absolutely 0 part in a battle, completely ignorable.
3) Necro damage can be quite significant depending on spec.
4) Like I said, bunkers are just crazy to fight. That was the point of my ’ List of hardest to kill as a warrior’ title…..I wasn’t complaining. Even Anet stated they will be looking at bunker builds as they’re not really fair.
5) meh..
6) Bad dps guardians…i’ve fought balanced ones which are great all round.
7) Elementalists now. All equally difficult, all run the same spec. I can’t even remember when I saw an elementalist who wasn’t d/d or d/sceptre. You get the same rotation of abilities and so much regen+stability locking them down is near impossible if the player has half a brain.
Wat?
‘I like how weak Eles are’?
Troll right?
This is just my personal opinion. (from least hard to hardest).
1) Warriors – just so easy to kill, only class I can 1v2 and be confident i can win. I’ve never lost 1v1 ever to a warrior, i’ve even killed one when i was on 1/4 health and he was full.
2) Rangers – Trap rangers are harder, but I have alot of mobility and usually win.
3) Necros – Very hard if you’re fighting on a point and they’re dps, alot of conditions to get through/damage. The tanky ones just take such a long time.
4) Engineers – Long drawn out fight for bunkers, fairly even fights honestly, alot of knockbacks, sword 2 is my friend here + passive regen. Being knocked down every 3 seconds is pretty offensive though after my stability wears off.
5) Mesmers – Just a pain.Again usually long fights. HAve to get through alot of bursts/moa and killing the phantasms.
6) Guardians – What a pain in the behind. Spirit weapons, knockdowns, you have to dps your way through 3 health bars, protection, stability and resilience. Takes forever. Yet they can still do decent damage whilst retaining all this.
6) Thieves – Condition thieves just ridiculous, due to cloak and dagger basically.
7) d/d d/s Elementalists – I just can’t find a decent strategy. Between arcane shield, shocking aura, perma snare/freeze knockdowns, earthen shield, mist form, almost perma heath regen, regen/heals from water line combined with being able to dps at the same time it’s a warriors nightmare. I get them down to half, few seconds later they’re at full.
I’d appreciate any tips on dealing with eles. I’ve watched 4 people run around after one being unable to get it down. Personally i think it’s just a broken mechanic as it’s not just one individual player who can do this, i’ve seen multiple elementalists pull off exactly the same thing. Not a single other class who i’ve seen can do this.
Ever consider a hacked approached to the Weapon Master 'concept'?

It’d work in tpvp to a degree as you can work out what you’re facing before you fight.
Spvp it won’t as it’s zergy.
WvW the same, too many variables.
He could just dodge as you press the hammer leap. If you do manage to get him in the stun he still has a stun breaker as a utility, then a simple button press and back into stealth.
Gs whirl is redundant as the caltrops stop reduce it to about a few steps.
The dropping caltrops on dodge is the bs part. There’s no timer, so it’s every dodge, and considering thieves can dodge ALOT due to traits you are always wading through caltrops in a fight (which are stacking bleeds every single step +snare duration.
I came out a fight once with a 25 second snare….i mean really???
I’m finding GS is the only viable weapon in pvp also due to the sheer number of bunkers out there.
Everything else just doesn’t have the killing power/utility GS has.
Sword/sword – no damage
Mace- no damage
Axe – So easily avoidable/no utility
Warhorn – useless (honestly it is)
Hammer is nice for the CC, but I run sword/shield 2nd set as I need the mobility/escape. I encounter so much stability in other classes now though..(elementalists……)
The only way to kill these bunkers is whittle their health down to sub 50 percent, and try and get the burst in before they can simply regen themselves back to 100 in the next few seconds.
(btw, i love facing Hb warriors, as soon as they burst me, I hit endure pain and burst them back for 50 percent+ damage).
Hmm, the thing with thieves is there are 2 types.
Bad (90 percent), those who you stomp over in hotjoins. There’s going to be lots, because let’s face it, it’s a kids class. People who want to own with minimal difficulty. Those ones you will destroy. These are the same guys who will play mesmers, guardians, bunker eles or glass cannon HB warriors. You will kill them whatever class they choose (except bunker eles, complete faceroll class).
Good thieves?, nightmare to face. The reason? Cloak and dagger. A complete BS ability. 3 second (4 traited) stealth anytime. All they do is use pistol 1, drop caltrops on dodge so you have a perma bleed+snare (doesn’t matter if you remove conditions as it will reapply instantly) and shoot you. As soon as you get close they hit c+d, doing damage and dissapearing then just dodge away leaving caltrops and start shooting you again.
If the guy playing the thief has any ability whatsoever he should never lose against you. Ever. He can do all this using 2 keys+dodge.
Cloak and dagger may cost 5 initiative but it will always be up due to initiative regen. And whenever he goes stealth he will regen health/drop conditions. So enjoy facing that.
Cova, did you even look at what he pressed?
He never once, not once in the entire video did he press keys 2,3 or 4 or switch weapon sets. He pressed the steal button once in about 20 encounters.
At all!
He only used the 2 poisons and his dancing daggers occasionally.
Prove me wrong? IN fact anyone watching can confirm that what he did could have been done by a macro programme with equal success. That’s how much skill a thief takes.
Initiative balancing.
Like thieves have 0 ways of regenning initiative back very quickly?
Don’t make me laugh.
Oh thieves…what a lot of bs.
You have the ability to dissapear+do damage at will using c+d on basically 0 cooldown (oh no..it’s so SO hard to get initiative back, please tell me how difficult it is…).
So you risk absolutely nothing in a fight. I just watched a thief video of him spamming button 1 for his pistol and c+d inbetween as soon as he was targetted, then back to button 1 on his pistol and killing multiples in WvW. He honestly used 2 buttons the entire video.
Tell me again how hard it is being a thief….
Haha, what an awful video.
He literally pressed 2 keys to win every fight….1,1,1,1,5,1,1,1,1,5,1,1,5.etc
It’s a pretty kitten big advantage being able to go invisible every 4 seconds for 3 secs at a time. Combine that with rendering delay…wow…
That guy really actually believes he’s good, hilarious.
If I see a warrior i’m fighting switch to rampage i know he’s lost the fight already. It just delays me from killing them for maybe a little more time.
It also offers no resistance to immobilise or snare, so you can snare the guy, run away and rampage form has 1 bad, long cooldown, ranged attack, so he becomes useless. It’s like self moa.
And the cooldown…the cooldown!!!! Wow, for such a god awful ability?? Really???
At least they’ve made it easier deciding what elite to pick. Not like mesmers or thieves…which opd elite shall i use..hmmm…poor guys.
Same here, i’ve used BP for ages now.
I’ve thrown more blade trails than i can remember and not once have i caused that sort of damage.
Ever.
I’ve hit for 1k-2k maximum on a target.
No idea how you’re doing that tbh.
INDEED!!!
Myabe it’s just the rifle warriors i find, but they just fall over. I’ve never seen one and thought, wow, he was a challenge to me.
I’m assuming it’s charge+frenzy+Hb issue.
It’s funny you know, when I play spvp I get alot of tells complaining how i’m a HB noob etc from thieves mostly.
The same thieves who land 10 backstabs, 5k c+d’s and 5k steals all in a few seconds whilst remaining invisible 80 percent of the time.
Or mesmers who shatter me for 10-15k every 15 seconds or moa me and remove 50 percent of my life whilst i sit helpless?
Or elementalists who are almost bullet proof yet lay down damage.
They seem to think the only thing I do with my GS is that combo. A combo which is only available every 60 seconds. They fail to appreciate the use of blade trail, dodging at keypoints with whirlwind, getting out of range/closing range with rush, pre-emptive hbs!
The fact that GS 1 is low damage and you have to stay on top of someone to land it. No one appreciates the level of finesse a greatsword takes to work well.
What exactly would they prefer me to run? Two swords and do 0 damage? Mace for 0 damage? rifle and fdall over at the slightest breeze? longbow?
The long and short of it is in spvp/tpvp you need the burst to counter the amount of BS op’d abilities other classes have access to, and on alot shorter cooldowns than your burst.
So it’s a rod of your own making chaps.
Dude…it’s ok.
I agree on most of those things. Warriors do need alot of fixing/adjustments.
But you know why i’m ok with it atm?
Because we won’t get nerfed.
Considering how well I do with my warrior any buffs we receive will only make me stonger, and that will be phenomenal.
It’s better to be bottom of the pile that the top in an mmo game at the start. I’d be more worried if I was a thief/mesmer/guardian or a d/d elementalist right now.
Really?
Elementalists are really strong atm in certain spec lines and almost qualify as a faceroll class?
You just stated something which absolutely anyone who has pvp’d before already knew?
You win matches with guardian/mesmer/thief???
Well shiver my timbers son, that is a revelation. I think i’ll have to lay down now.
If you look at warriors passive traits they have by far the worst.
I mean look at tactics line – it all revolves around rezzing someone faster/more effectively. So in order for that line to be useful other people need to die. The warrior is a horrible choice to rez when you have mesmer, elementalist mist form, thief steath rez, guardian dome rez…..
Too many of the warrior traits revolve around adrenaline gains. I have no issues gaining adrenaline in fights (not that i ever use it as GS adrenal is utter pants…).
The only good traits we have are spiked armour, adrenal health gain and the 20 percent reductions on weapon skills. Most other things are kitten, do nothing to help your team mates and do nothing for your own survivability (or if they do they work on cooldown timers on your own utilities so won’t fire if you’ve used one recently(endure pain, stability)).
I ran into a longbow warrior yesterday night in spvp.
It was horrible, i utterly demolished him. I even told him to stop using the longbow because it just wasn’t any good. After the third time of me almost perfecting him he quit the match. (hopefully to not use the longbow anymore).
Low damage, no real decent cc, slow attacks, easily dodgeable aoes, terrible range, no defensive abilities, no mobility abilities…..just so so bad.
Again, the fact you find your successful on a elementalist and not very good on a warrior merely demonstrates my point that playing a d/d elementalist at the moment isn’t very hard. It’s no coincidence that every single one I play against is just annoying, and you have to go through the same rigmorale of waiting for mist form, waiting for the earthen shield to fall before you cc, looking for the shocking aura, waiting for arcane shield to go away etc…until you can try and burst them down (only after they’re at 40 percent health as a rule)
I had a fight with one yesterday, (who obvisouly thought he was hot kitten as he chased me after i decided to try and 2v1 against him and a guardian, but then i retreated as the guardian was clearly bunker), the fight lasted so long my signet of rage came up twice. (btw i only run healing signet), I won in the end. It was a good fight, but arduous.
I can understand why they go that spec though, i tore through a staff elementalist soon after that, so why souldn’t you go a godly spec which not only outputs damage but gives healing and incredible durability + movement skills.
Guardians…I really have no issue fighting them anymore 1v1. They all rely on retaliation and zealots flame bursts/circle of wrath for damage. Because I run greatsword spec I’ll just keep my range and wiat for the buffs to fall then i’ll attack, the two bufs you look for are retaliation, stability and protection, once these arn’t present they’re ripe for a burst. You can’t just run in and wildly swing against them hoping to dps them down, that’s what they actually want.
The fact you said that a good mesmer or thief can kill a bunker ele goes to show how opd they are, they can only be dealt with by the two most op classes in the game currently, what doed that say?? When they nerf the thief and mesmer (which will surely occur at some point), what will kill you then?
Akumu, Every single d/d ele i’ve played against can do what you’re saying. It’s just the mechanics of the class at the moment.
You think it’s your amazing skill which is allowing you to kite 5 mans and so on? or maybe it’s just that the elementalist d/d d/s specs have some insane healing/regen in them and are clearly opd.
IN fact arena net even stated they’ll be looking at ele bunker builds. With those balanced wait to see if you’re still amazing or brought in line with other class survivability.
I just played an spvp game, i beat the hell out of two warriors, 2v1, bad warriors are just so easy. It’s not a forgiving class if you can’t play it well, unlike cough*mesmer*cough*guardian*cough*thief*cough*d/d elementalist (mistform, arcane shield, earthen shield, spam water aoe run around alot, sopam lightning, get regen with atunement switches…..)…
Warriors do need some changes, alot of bug fixes and changes to grant more utility for sure.
But we’re none of those things you said.
Tpvp we are not great choices merely because other classes are far better at the roles. Currently the bunker issue and the nescessity for portals on khylo means unless you bring a mesmer and bunker classes along you will lose. Once they fix that, warriors will be ok.
Spvp is great fun as a warrior, I do amazingly well because it’s just a laugh. I’ve had challenging fights but i’ve beaten pretty much every class 1v1. The only class I have issues with is the bunker elementalist, so so so hard to get down. (it’s a long kitten fight)
Guardians arn’t that bad, just don’t attack when retaliation is up, (watch their buffs).
Thieves…well, as long as endure pain and other utilities are up I have a good chance at winning. If not, it’s pretty tough, i generally try and just create distance ant wiat for my stuff to come back off cooldown (GS and sword are amazing for running away btw).
Alot of it is working out what classes can do, when to attack, when to run.
WvW…., I stand up pretty well (i’m not glass cannon), I do decent damage and i have alot of mobility/escape as needed. I roam and don’t really stick with the zerg. All classes fair the same in WvW.
Sorry dude, you don’t seem to know how to use the warrior well/ or are specced badly.
Fix the warrior traits (remove those which double up or do nothing), change some of the utilities/banners to actually be useful and add some more group support in and redo the adrenal abilities, that’s about all we need tbh.
Also..he who mentioned LoL….
None of the heals are spammable, they heal for a relatively small amount in comparison to damage taken and no way you can keep someone up under any sort of focus fire with those heals.
I love the fact there are no direct healers. You know why?
Because every other game i’ve played it generally works out the group who has no healer will die.
In Rift the side which won the bg was the side with more healers. Spam heal, spam heal, spam heal. It was easy mode tbh.
In Daoc 8v8 you needed 2 healers per grp as a rule.
In TOR, healing made for such easy wins.
(I never played wow, so don’t care about it’s mechanics).
This game is all about damage avoidance/well timed cc, not blindly pumping out heals into yourself and your grp whilst they hack away without a care in the world, and if the other guy has no healer there’s nothing he can do.
Oh…btw..have you ever been up agianst a guardian+bunker elementalist? Good luck downing either of those two unless you have 4+ players….
It makes all the difference in a game honestly.
I know it’s been asked for before, but it just makes it that more personal/creates rivalries.
Was in WvW over the weekend, friend called out ‘Theif on me!’
I turn round to see him at 30 percent health (he’s on a ranger) and nothing. He’s taking damage from an invisible foe and all i can do is leap over to him and try and hack in the general vicinity.
It’s complete bs.
I think there’s only one course of action. Delete all rifle warriors from the game. It’s all I see, rifle warriors everywhere, ruining it for everyone else with their over the top rifle damage. Don’t get me started on those longbow warriors either.
As a warrior I agree with mancaptain, all my skills do 4-5k, even my auto attack each swing.
Even when i’m just looking at opponents i’m doing 4-5k.
I don’t even have to wear full bezerker gear + precision/damage runes+sigils, with 800 toughness and 18k total hps to even come close to that sort of damage.
I disagree.
The OP is using a warhorn and he’s getting beaten. The simple fact is putting points that far into tactics kittens you. The pasive traits add no survivability or attack damage. They’re all rezzing traits. Literally every other trait line has better passives in. The sacrifice you have to make for quick breathing just isnt worth it.
I went for a full condition removal build once, warhorn, condition removal on crit, condition removal on being hit, condition removal on heal….I had everything.
It made no difference, there are SO many conditions on you all the time, As fast as I cleared one, another would take its place.
You need a shield in pvp. It’s just that simple. A thief can drop 15-20k on you in 1-3 seconds at 2k toughness. Mesmers can shatter you for 8-10k every 15 seconds, Hb glass cannon warriors will drop 12-15k on you in 3 seconds. Rangers with haste will put out 1k+ arrows every 1/2 second for 4 seconds. Gs/flame guardians can put out 8k of damage in a few seconds.
There is SO much burst around I have to have shield and endure pain. I’ve tried without and I always come back to putting them on my bar, because I always think ’If I had endure pain I would have won that, or shield would have been great to reflect that.
You drop 20 percent of your damage for warhorn (probably more), you lose a block+reflect and a stun. Is it worth it? In fights I probably have weakness on me for most of them and honestly, I don’t even notice a difference because I run with a 70 percent crit rate (with signet of rage fired).
I found warhorn good for staying out of fights/running away, not so much being in one.

I like Hb as it is.
I use it pro-actively. ie: I start it before i’m on someone, So if I see someone walking somewhere i’ll start it firing, as they walk into it, or in a staircase as someone is trying to get away. You’d be amazed how many people will walk through it to get to somewhere.
Also..since the change to the thief skill steal on warriors, the sheer amount of thieves who still spam steal and whirlwind into me hoping for an easy kill, to only get a face full of HB as they will spin into it is phenomenal.
It’s like they’ve forgotten they’re not invincible anymore during the move. I will just stand there Hbing and the thief will still spin into my damage zone, sometimes for the whole channel. Amazing.
open tourney maps?
Instead of capture the flag/hold the flag like games, maybe it’s just me, but i’d like to see more of a 5v5 arena type situation going on. This would somewhat solve bunker builds and maybe make more of a place for other classes who don’t get selected as much for current tpvp (ahem warriors ahem rangers..cough..).
Axe is not a good pvp weapon imho.
Focus on one main weapon to use and your second weapon set needs to augment your first. I run Gs/sword+shield.
I use the GS for my damage/Hb setup/closer and my second set specificall for the leap from sword two so i’m always on top of him if he knocks me away. Shield block+reflect missiles trait is amazing btw as you can wait for their most damaging attack attack and reflect it right back. It’s a fight changer imho.
Btw, the only heals i rely on are signet of healing ticks and the adrenal healing trait ticks. I rarely press my active heal.
Horn is rubbish 1v1 btw. Axe gives you no utility.
Engineers can be super tough fights honestly, especially if you’re playing to tehir strengths and have to run around in their mines/turrets (btw I will destroy all turrets as I go). Save bull charge/frenzy+Hb smackdown for when they’re <40 percent health to hopefully end it before they can regen back up.
I think your problem is the warhorn though, switch it to shield and you’ll have way more luck. (or even mace off hand for the ranged knockdown).
Same thing happens on bullcharge as well.
You sometimes stop short/go past for no discernable reason. Which is probably worse.
Honestly mate, it sounds like you’re another class, who has briefly touched on a warrior and feels he knows it inside and out but you don’t really ever play one.
Yes.
Hmm..let me count the numberof warriors in this spvp match…oh there’s just me! out of 16 people..1 warrior…
Sword as an off hand?
Again. Possibly the worst pvp set to have going.
Really? it’s middle of the classes for tpvp picks?
Just wow….
Wow…such…evasive and non informative come backs.
Someone who is pushing bleed damage on warriors..no, please keep giving your advice.
