I don’t want to sell these things. I like that they are account bound instead of soul bound.
I’d like to see dungeon tokens not be bound at all, but also prevent a cost from being applied to them.
My situation: I play frequently with my wife when we are doing dungeon runs. I really like the look of AC weapons; she really likes the TA armor styles. We help each other in our dungeon runs. Guild members will help us out. We have no interest in the other dungeons end rewards, yet we accumulate tokens for them.
We cannot be the only two people in the game who have gathered stacks of dungeon tokens with absolutely no use. Please allow us the option to give them away if we’d like to.
suppose the WvW reason is a good one, hadn’t considered that.
what would you do if you regularly guest on another server? which one would you see?
fire is an excellent choice for pbaoe hammer prot spam. you are up there anyway, might as well crit fireballs off it, right?
I think this is what I meant. Id like to see a “servers” category of forums, and then each server listed there.
we should be able to see each server’s sub forums and threads, for those reasons I already mentioned above.
wow. npc in combat prevents party wipe res? this is a serious oversight. AI controlled allies should not count as being in the party in this regard.
this was in gw1 but was changed to only work in explorable instances due to exploiting (gambling) in communal outposts.
as long as it’s used properly I don’t see a reason not to.
you can transmute directly from the bank tab, can’t you?
OP: which server are you on? My guild almost exclusively runs dungeons every night, story and explorable. We’re on Fort Aspenwood, feel free to look me up and guest over for some good dungeon experiences. We won’t even rush ahead if you want to watch all the cutscenes!
you cant even have items that are soulbound to one character in another character’s inventory? what??
I did this exact thing doing a boon tank 0/15/0/30/25 build.
It is awesome, but the might stacking only really gets going once the enemies are almost all down. If your group uses a lot of AoE you end up with a huge stack of might at the end of a fight.
I noticed it was not as useful in some dungeons as well. If there are a lot of fights against silvers or champs in groups of 2 to 3 with nothing between, the might only hits a couple times.
For large scale events full of under-vet enemy types, this strategy is awesome skill bar grease. For anything else it’s just not practical compared to other options in my own experience.
Guild Missions will be dynamic, PvE, open world events. This means they are effectively server-wide.
How about we finally get server specific threads on the official forum here. I’m all about independent server forum sites, but it’d just make sense for the game’s creators to provide a simple service on their site for this kind of thing. Individual server threads would do 2 things:
-keep a single-guild missions thread from becoming jumbled, unorganized and difficult to navigate
-promote guesting across servers for guild-centric events.
Thoughts?
Personally I run with the Altruism runes and P/V/T gear, traited 0/0/30/30/10. Renewed focus and all shouts. I never run out of health, and no one has conditions. Its awesome.
Really any weapon will work with this. GS and staff are my favorite, but Mace / Focus and Scepter / Shield are good options too. Sword just plain falls short.
if Smite were a symbol it should not grant a boons, but apply weakness instead, IMO.
Mace / Focus
self combo area retaliation, 4 blocks across 2 skills that buff AoE, Area heal auto attack and multi-target blind and condition removal.
I tend to use Scepter / Sheild in the second set when running this for more damage.
I picked up the dyes. I got 2 rares, a handful of masterwork, and the rest fine. Should have just sold them unid, but I simply can’t help myself. I must know what lies within!!
Tier 1 Utility = 30 skill points
Tier 2 Utility = 60 skill points
Tier 3 Utility = 90 skill points
Elite = 120 skill points
Just added effects and cooler, or an epic feel for your favorite skills would be nice. I’d like the option to choose what I get if a color is involved.
What do you do with skill types with almost no animation to begin with tho? Shouts? Signets? Glyphs?
I like the idea, but not the charge fee, and if they are going to add another trait window it really should be like this:
Land Traits
Underwater Traits
Utilities, Elites, and weapon skills all retain their underwater status. Traits do not change, and some of them are downright unusable underwater (linked of course to certain skills being unusable there)
Travelling to a skill master only takes loading time. Heart of the Mists > Lions Arch. No fee.
The skill masters should remember traits I’ve set up in the past tho. That would make things easier. I go up to him and say “remember this build I used, I want that again… yeah, yeah, we’re going into TA, again.”
My main is a charrdian and I run in a dungeon heavy guild.
I normally run a boon tank set up 0/0/30/30/10 with altruistic healing, shouts that convert conditions, and extended retaliation. I can self combo with mace/focus for area retaliation (mace symbol > skill 5) and provide every boon in the book for the whole party. P-T-V full Vigil armor (not even exotic) with Sup. Altruism runes, all accessories are sapphire + healing. (masterworks) I’ll switch to Skybringer (GS) on the second weapon set to build up Life tokens and use staff in long range or tougher fights for might boosting (with the mesmer using sig of inspiration in our group and the nec’s using BiP, we almost never run out of max might) If a boss requires special tanking attention and we’re melee heavy in the group, swap out to hammer and area prot spam.
I’ve also recently been using my warrior in AC and TA runs instead so I can level another toon. I really, really miss the healing potential of the guardian every time, and the party seems to suffer for it. Everything takes longer. Everyone has conditions almost all the time it seems like.
A good guardian build in a dungeon is part speed bump, part monk, and part team-grease. When you grind areas, efficiency is as important as being able to survive. My guardian saves everyone time and allows everyone to trait more offensively.
its the same thing with the Lyssa event. The NPCs tell you to look away from her. I don’t think most people even have NPC chatter on… they tell you how to play!
I wouldn’t mind a “kill X type of enemies” or “kill X number of enemies in X zone” goals, or even a “kill X boss”; but only AFTER you have the option to skip one of the dailies and still get credit. If you can pick and choose which ones you do an leave one out, this is no problem for me.
I will try to be as descriptive as possible.
Go up the scaffolding to get to the Vista in the far southwest corner in the zone. A chest is there along with an event with a Champ Dredge. (this event was active when we arrived, and we finished it half way up the jump puzzle to get to the Vista) Go between the cliffs into the icy area / jump puzzle.
The mob in particular is most of the way through the puzzle itself. An Ice Elemental that is alone before a drop into a large hole. This is after crossing the bridges with AoE ice damage and up the steps along the hill. This is before you encounter the skritt and the area with the skill point.
This is where we experienced the weird dynamic leveling. That ice elemental was 7 levels above us, and it respawned quickly and continuously. Myself and one other player brought it down 3 times in a row before we had a chance to escape down the hole. It was very quick: The mob dies and as the body is falling a new one takes it place.
Hope this is enough to find it.
Was in the Dredgehaunt Cliffs, past the vista / champion event just near the Sorrows Furnace dungeon entrance. In the ice cave jump puzzle there the enemies were level 50 and I was scaled down to 43. >_< Seemed to effect everyone in the area, in my party or otherwise. Came across a few downed or defeated players that were not expecting to run into +7 enemies. To my knowledge we were all level 80, scaled down, and were level 80 before the latest patch.
Fort Aspenwood server.
I don’t like the argument that if you aren’t using magic find, you are using more ability and skill in playing, somehow making you more deserving of better, more frequent drops.
…if anything, using magic find actually requires more skill during gameplay, since you are gimping yourself and your stats. Sure, you get more drops, but you aren’t as effective by the numbers… ergo, more skill is required to stay on part with those without magic find.
My favorite Guardian build I’ve used so far is something I call the Boon Tank.
0/15/0/30/25
Staff / GS or Hammer
Signet for Healing slot
All shouts for Utilities (not Save Yourselves!)
and Tome of Wrath (for huge fights / champs) Renew Focus for eveything else.
Traits as follows:
in radiance: Justice is Blind
in honor: Superior Aria, Two-Handed Mastery, and Pure of Voice
in virtues: Vengeful, and Elite Focus.
with 5 in virtues, your virtues when used will spread 2 boons each to everybody.
with shouts traited as such, you will use them more often, they each apply 2 boons, and will now AoE remove conditions as well.
with 15 in radiance, your fire virtue will recharge upon each kill. spam it over and over for group might and burning constantly.
You will also heal when you dodge, nice bonus.
Use GS to crowd control, Hammer to tank tough enemies, and Staff all other times.
Staff skill 4 combined with your first virtue can stake about 15 Might on all your allies very quickly, and if targets die fast enough, the might just keeps coming (and everything is always on fire)
This build can provide almost every boon to a party with almost no cost and minimal cool down. With the might boosts you make any party much more efficient. Don’t ever let your virtues just sit there, you are wasting them if you don’t use them with this build.
Also, with elite focus and tome of wrath, you have just enough time to get the AoE quickness buff of twice in one casting, which is excellent in dungeon fights.
Most of my characters are named after either the Kurzick Houses from GW1 or their patron saints. (we were a Kurzick Guild in GW1) My characters are all named Mortis, after my first MMO necro character, so..
Mortis zu Heltzer – Human Necro
Mortis Durheim – Norn Thief
Mortis Vasburg – Human Warrior
Mortis Perahta – Sylvari Mesmer
Then I have one named after a monk I made in Nightfall with a Derv secondary that I used to melee the whole game. It was a blast to play back in GW1 and, little did I know I was kind of making a guardian way back then. Remade that character for this one and kept the name.
Smitten Mittens – Charr (of course) Guardian
exact same issue. tried to use my card multiple times over the weeks, but nothing ever succeeded. I have submitted a support ticket before, but I never got a response.
my current ticket number is #121203-000122. I did recently move and update my billing address, but this should have no effect on this. I tried weeks before I moved and it didn’t work then either.

I think they should charge per skill slot. what would that be… 14.4K karma per skill for a 70K greatsword / staff, etc?
you should ask about getting more than one sigil on two-handed weapons……
…except for the fact that they are working on including tokens as drops in dungeon from mobs. They just dont have it ready yet. so until then, bide your time.
you do read ALL of the update notes…don’t you?
Your skills on land are different than underwater. Some skills cannot be used underwater at all. You can set them above and below water, and the bar remembers which skills you had in either state.
The traits do not do this at all.
So, as it is now: if you use different skills underwater (which is likely), then you should re-assign your traits every time you go under. This is tedious, and without it (depending on the builds / skills / traits / weapons in question), I am effectively less effective just because I went underwater.
Traits should autoswap just like skills do when going underwater. For example, as a Guardian I cannot use 2 of my 3 class elites underwater. If I trait into a tome, to extend the duration of it, that trait is useless underwater since I cannot use the skills it pertains to.
Thoughts? Other examples?
this still doesn’t change anything for me. Cant get any mystic keys, whats the point?
I understand how it works, and since it stacks duration, its cool and all as long as my condition damage is higher. Burning is basically the only reliable damaging condition I can apply as a Guardian. I can’t bleed or poison anything. is boosting condition damage a waste (burning will be shuffled down if someone boosted it higher) or simply required (so my only offensive class mechanic can be used?)
the shield skills themselves are yes, somewhat lackluster. you are forgetting about a couple of things here tho, that at least I have observed as a guardian:
in sPvP you can lock a team in their starting spawn area for 6 seconds with one skill. LOCK THEM IN. in 6 seconds that means points for your team they didn’t get. You have 2 more skills that can do this…
the skill 4 grants a party buff as well as damage, and it can make or break a last minute defense in the right situation.
the skill 5 provides a lot of combo ops with other classes, especially other classes with more range than us (see: all of them =P)
There is one glaring problem with the skill, and I don’t know if it has been fixed yet:
Skill 5’s area of knockback scales with your race. Asuran’s bubbles are far smaller than Norn or Charr bubbles, and it effects where the mobs end up afaik. It’s a fundamentally sound ability that is completely broken.
I am using a gamepad to play GW2. Im using my old Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless controller with the wireless USB receiver for PCs. It works great. The only disatvantage is you cannot set the buttons with the controller. You have to use another program like xpadder. I recommend it, there are a lot of great profiles on their site, and the program is only 10 bucks.
Essentially you turn the controller from 1 into 3 controllers (for myself at least.) I use one stick for movement (WSQE) for strafing, and one stick for camera movement (mapped to Right Click / Move Mouse) bumpers are skills 4 / 5 and 6 / 0, and the A button is jump. 123 / 789 swap on the other face buttons. class skills (F1-F4) go on the Dpad. Jump on the third profile is swim down. everything else menu oriented.
During combat and exploration, it’s a lot of fun. You can still use ground targeted skills, and it’s pretty easy to set up with a little practice. I played all the betas using keyboard and mouse, and with my setup I am required to use wireless devices. The controller for me simply has a better battery life and response time. During combat it feels like it was meant to be.
During anything else the mouse and keyboard are the way to go, for sure, but it is perfectly viable to use any controller set up. Send me a PM if you’d like some more details. I can share my xpadder profile with you to give you a good framework to build your own set up on.
At least you have 1 viable elite to use underwater. You could be stuck with Renewed Focus =P
and our endurance monitor!
what’s everyone complaining about? I’m loving my necro and I’m not having any problems enjoying the game. I can solo anything but a champion and I can run across whole zones quickly. What’s not to like?
Renewed Focus is awesome if you trait into it, as as far as I know you can use it underwater. I can’t us any of my other elites underwater. I guess guardian kitties really don’t like to swim. >_<
call me crazy but…. how exactly could this be exploited?
I mean, sure, the norn bubble is easily twice the size of the asura, but the asura is easily a quarter of the size of the norn…
if the hitboxes are the same on all the races, then this is a bug.
However, it may just be the animation that’s different. Try to see exactly where the mobs stop with each skill. If they are pushed back to different distances, it’s a bug. If all the enemies end up the same distance away, its working as it should.
If that’s the case it’s purely cosmetic, which would be nice. Has this been tested?
anyone who knew to dodge and kite while I was using bubbles, and to attack when I wasn’t. Basically anyone who mimics me. If they attack when I attack and they defend when I do, Im going down. Guardian 1v1 is so much about feint strategy with the right reaction time. If they are ready for it, there is little you can do without the classic KDs.
happens all the time to me, if I’m using trident or staff. I don’t use scepter, but I imagine it would happen with that too. Never see it with any melee weapons.
I have auto target if nothing selected (mostly because I use a controller set up). Its not that big a deal. I just off the mob and move on.
skill 4 on torch is easily my favorite. I can yell Hadoken and it works. its a nice little burning pull and sets up the closer in mace skills I tend to use with the torch.
Staff has meant the difference between party wipe and success in some situations for me. Especially dungeons or personal story quests that involve tight spaces. Keeping 8 charging melee centaurs at bay for 5 seconds is incredibly powerful when used right. Have a good nec or ele on your team and you can effectively tank mobs and ball them up – AT RANGE.
I understand where the mechanics flaws are coming from here. By doing events you automatically start hitting on the anti-farm code. This doesn’t make sense.
Mobs spawned by events and mobs spawned elsewhere should run on separate anti-farm codes. Even the same code, structure, timing, everything… just run them on two tracks instead of one.
This way, no one can farm regular mobs, and no one can farm event mobs. The coding does what it intends to do in each case, and if people want good drops they still have to change the scenery and do something else. Win / Win.
Otherwise, my only suggestion is this: go do something else. I enjoy bedroom activities myself. =P
you can type /emote, then type anything you want, and it will appear as <character name> <what you typed after /emote>
you can put a space and a * after an emote to sync it with others. there’s a 5 second delay. you and your friends can all dance at the same time by typing “/dance *”
you can direct your emotes at your current target by adding space @ after it. this only works for certain emotes. you can “point @” your target, and it will show the target’s name in the emote.
you can combine these, so you and your friends can all /point @ * and /laugh @ * the losing team, and you will all point and laugh at the same time.
other things I didn’t know, but feel stupid for not knowing:
you can right click on any piece of equipment or dye and preview it. this does not include the trading post, but from any vendor or any inventory slot.
you can hold Alt and drag to split a stack of something collected. the window defaults to the closest half of the original amount.
you can right click on someone’s name in your party or guild menu, and select send email to. you can then right click on items you want to send them and select send in email. it will put them all into the same email. you can do this in either order.
I think this will be coming with the guild halls. in GW1 they had skirmishes, where anyone in your hall could challenge anyone else, and it kicks you into an instance where you fight. It was set up as practice for GvG (8v8), but you could have as many people in your party as you wanted (1v1).
clearly you have not used a greatsword on a mesmer for longer than 2 minutes, or any of the guardian tome skills.
“feel my wrath! feel my wrath! feel my wrath!”
I really enjoy all the voices in the game for the most part. I really find it odd that Sylvari say “thorns!” as an expletive. That’s like a Char saying “horns!” or a human saying “fingernails!” I get it, they are plants, but it really doesn’t make any sense.
Also:
Please give me an option to silence myself and no one else. My character is a battle-hardened blood legion charrdian. She does not need to tell me how fast she is going every time I use a speed boost. >_<
I thought it was on a timer? Like every 3 hours or something?
in my experience, if you are using a waypoint with that high a cost to get to the event, you are exemplifying exactly why the costs are the way they are: to prevent a zerg rush of players every time a particular event comes up. The events are for those around them, not everyone on a server.
