I like the idea, in certain situations.
Problem: You are always going to run into stupid players who like to mess around. No avoiding that.
Problem: You are in a large scale event and you aren’t in a party. You have to carry all the banners yourself. This is a constant source of frustration as it is with banner specced warriors. Whenever I carry a banner for them 95% of the time I get a whisper thanking me for helping them out.
In dungeons everyone is in your party, so it doesn’t matter either way.
In WvW, enemies cannot pick them up already, so no problem there.
I’d like if they put the “pick up banner” F key function to a lower priority than even NPC interaction, but this would then just frustrate the warrior that wants to pick them up in large, populated or dense events.
War’s really should have a skill or secondary skill on the banner to “summon it to your hand” or something like that, within a certain range.
I am going to predict here and now the folliwing:
By end of 2013 we will see a polish of all the current expanding they have been doing. Everything will be simpler.
By end of 2014 we will have more weapons, more utility skills, and more elite skills. (maybe even order specific skills)
By end of 2015 we will have a new race to play with.
ya, that’s a long time, but I like to bet it safe. =P
I don’t know about assisted jumps, but how about a “lend a hand up” feature.
One character is on a ledge just above another character. They can reach each other. Their models can collide at some point.
The higher character can pull the other character up.
This would be especially funny to see an Asura helping up a Norn.
ok, fine. I’m down with an anti-stealth tool, but under some stipulations:
I can hit a button to kill all enemy necro minions. man I hate fighting those.
I can hit a button to prevent a mesmer from shattering clones. man those hurt.
I can hit a button to remove a ranger’s pet. why does he get two characters to my one? this fight is unfair!
I can hit a button to ….. seeing the problem here yet?
what do you even use the achievement points for anyway? apart from logging in and contributing to your guild (which is never a bad thing, no matter how you do it)
how is this hurting anyone exactly?
to my knowledge its the only achievement you can continue to get over and over. 2 years down the road when you have all the exploration, story and slayer achievements finished off entirely and get new ones within a few hours / days, what will you have left?
Agent of Entropy. Good ol reliable source of kitten.. er, I mean, “Personal Achievement Points.”
I was using this with Hammer once and another guardian using GS.
We had 4 enemies, melee, around us.
I used Hammer 5 to keep the enemies in. He used GS 5 to chain them. We AoE’d and they tried to get away.
I used Bubble, he triggered the pull on GS 5.
The enemies bobbed back and forth between the ring ward and the bubble, bouncing no less than 3 times each. Interrupts abound, and was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in the game.
Otherwise, the skill is kind of useless in general, but shines in certain, specific situations.
I have never, ever, not gotten at least 1 ecto from an exotic rare salvage, and I haven’t used a BLK salvage kit on them yet. I save those to strip upgrades.
I’m a pretty casual player tho; the last time I got a rare to salvage was a couple weeks ago, the second to last time I played.
on my Engineer I went with Leatherworker and Huntsman. I miss out on making shields, but everything else my character uses I can make from scratch and keep up on it as I level. With Leatherworker you can of course keep your armor up to date, and Huntsman will allow you to make your Rifles and Pistols. If you really need a shield, just buy one someone else made.
I’ve decided to start saying it while holding my tongue. =P
(many of you are now trying this, mwahah!)
how about this instead of changing any game mechanics, splitting more skills for PvE and PvP / WvW, and messing up build strategies..
Answer: Mini Pets that look like full scale Phantasms, based on your character model. Any profession can use them.
(same way anyone that can use greatsword can find or buy one that looks like a ghostly Mesmer sword)
You want the hat with the feather. Don’t know what it’s called since I kept transmuting it, but it is a rather common one.
I got the hat with the feather as a reward for finishing Ascalon Catacombs story mode.
sell junk. this is easily one of the most constant sources of income. they cannot be used for anything else unless they are a specific “event only” item, and they are easily obtained with that event when it’s active. If you keep them you’ll never use them again, I promise.
I even sprung for an oil lined back to filter all junk, so when it’s full I can just turn it all into silver.
this would be awesome.
..if I liked any of the armor sets in this game as much as I enjoyed GW1 armors.
I would change the ability to add posts about requesting mounts to the forums. =P
Honestly, guild halls. I want an instanced hang out for my guild, that we can upgrade with a trading post, crafting stations, armor and weapon vendors, and so on.
Smite on Guardian Scepter should behave like a Symbol.
These combos would seem weird to me:
Asura- Warrior, Guardian
Norn- Thief, Mesmer, Necro, Engineer, Male Elementalist
Charr- Mesmer, Thief, Necro
Human- None
Sylvari- Engineer
I have, or have had 3 of these. I like sticking out.
Guardian hammers should have a skill that inflicts chilled. I shouldn’t have to spend extra money on a certain sigil just to make one trait kind of useful.
I don’t have any ascended items and only 1 character at 80. I don’t even have exotic armor yet (just rare!) and I’m STILL using level 80 Masterwork trinkets.
The game is still fun for me. It’s only a grind if you want it to be.
ori-cal-koom is what I say after I got curious enough to look it up and have a computer say it for me.
before that I said or-a-ku-lum because I transpose letters and it sounded cooler.
usually I just say “ori ore!”
A better system you be to have each slot be unique. Have left handed rings and right handed rings. No one complains that they can’t wear two hats at once. That’s because the UI is intuitive.
The ascended stuff is not.
This is the answer.
ANET do this.
there’s no such thing as security
if you give someone access, they can take advantage
deny access or don’t put anything you don’t want to lose in there.
no one can steal anything you haven’t written down.
…along with the option to turn them off, or put them wherever you want in the UI. The UI is so clumsy and uncustomizable it boggles the mind.
The background changes depending on the selected character’s last location.
The background changes depending on the race or profession selected.
The lighting changes based on server time or your local time.
Different aspects appear depending on your achievements (100% world exploration shows a global vista or some kind of fly-over Tyria effect to zoom in to which ever background is appropriate.)
I’d really love to see more emotes and more class and race specific ones. Anything to increase the flavor and lore of the game is a plus in my book.
I understand the frustration with the “F” key functionality, but I’ve taken my own steps to improve it’s behavior. I don’t think the devs will do more to this function than they already have.
Map F to a mouse button, and keep a finger near the Esc key.
fine, as long as its town clothes only.
and, can we stop calling them “mounts”
GW1 had a “costume slot” which would replace your armor’s appearance, but you’d lose no benefits of it. I think they should use town clothes this way.
I like the idea of using town clothes under armor, but they really need to provide several dozen more options of town clothes and ways to purchase / craft / find them first. I dislike most of the town clothing default options. If it’s just what we have to work with now I’ll never use it.
Plus, insert comment about clipping issues, etc..
I like the ideas too, but it does keep smaller guilds out of a lot of content and has potential for bullying. Larger guilds would have their pick of an in-world guild hall wherever they wanted.
Then you have to consider things like, are any of the potential location entrances near high traffic areas, gathering hot spots, event chains, and so on. I think this would just promote more bad farming behavior and keep every casual player out of the game.
What we really need are instanced guilds halls that guild can unlock upgrades for connections to major cities only. Upgrade architecture and build Asura gates to each city and lions arch after so much influence is earned. Simple to do and the system is basically already in place for it.
who’s waist? how tall are you? which race are you? is the surface slippery? is it raining? is it mud or rock? grass? any tree branches to grab? are you on fire?
you program all that for all the possible scenarios and I’ll buy your game.
Be more careful when you jump.
Your alts aren’t fully-outfitted yet?
none of my alt’s are even level 80 yet. I have a life too =P
On Topic: I’d like them to introduce a way to craft the ascended items. If they ever add ascended armor and weapon types, we’ll be sure to see this introduced. Otherwise there’d be no point to any of the crafting disciplines other than cooking.
Not to derail the very mature quoting argument here, but, to answer the original question of the thread I think I found an answer.
The advantage of light armor over heavy is measured in skin shown. That’s about it.
Hope this helps!
Necro is going to give you the most bang for your buck, but the legendary won’t match the flavor of the class in the slightest.
Ele is an obvious choice here, but you have to really enjoy the skill set. Staff or DD will give you more to do in the long run. Scepter is training sauce IMO.
Mesmer is ok, but as has been stated, their other weapons are much better.
Guardian isn’t bad if you want to solo champs and spend upwards of an hour doing so (per champ). With the right build you can solo just about anything with a scepter if you’re willing to sit there. If you like how the legendary looks this might be the best option, as you’ll certainly be seeing a lot of it.
Staff is an amazing weapon, and IMO probably the best guardian weapon (after Hammer)
Skill 1 is excellent for triggering VoJ quickly and mowing paths.
Skill 2 is good damage at range with both a pass-thru heal and burst heal, and it’s on a nice cooldown. Great for pulling in conjunction with skill 5.
Skill 3 is your basic Guardian symbol. Nothing too special unless you trait into them, but the speed boost is nice. Also useful for damage stacking with skill 5.
Skill 4 is amazing. So much Might stacked AoE, and if you have a Mes in your party with Sig of Inspiration thats a full party max, quickly, and often. No one should ever be without max might. With AH trait and boosted healing power, this out performs some of our normal healing skills.
Skill 5 is awesome. Line ward is perfect crowd control and sets up tons of combo opportunity with everyone else.
I’ve always seen the staff as the grease weapon of choice to make any group more efficient. You won’t be slaying any dragons by yourself with it, but take it with a team and you can steamroll mountains.
that is good advice.
it costs pittance to change up your traits at lower levels. Max a couple out and test it in the field. Max out a couple others and do the same. You’ll know right away if something doesn’t feel right.
If you want reliable burning for yourself and everyone around you all the time, there are 2 main traits that are very important, and both of them are minor.
Precision line up to 15
Virtues line up to 5
VOJ recharges on each kill. If VOJ is available to use and you are in combat, spam it.
You will:
Spread extended AoE burning to all allies
Stack might AoE to all allies.
The rest of your traits are open. With your weapons I’d recommend applying vuln on blind, and enough to get at least one trait line to 30. with MF or AH you can be an excellent tank with your health pool alone. You don’t need to rely on crit chance at all. Anything to boost your condition damage is a plus.
dump the 10 extra points into your Virtues line, for sure. Every Guardian should have at least 5 in there, and with 5 more you can extend Consecrations when you use them, and extend retaliation duration, which just means more damage.
and a focus instead of a shield
oddly enough I feel I have more survivability with one, as opposed to a shield… which is kind of weird if you think about it.
Just don’t understand what they were thinking having a focus being a good choice for a melee class.
Focus is awesome for melee. You get 3 blocks and a buff on one skill. Works great.
Im for templates AT the skill retrainer, and they cost to switch to them, but at least you can save them.
Not sure if this works with amulets, but with an ascended ring, when you infuse it, you also reset its “soulbound” status.
but it’s already been soulbound, so there’s no way for another character to even infuse it, right?
I can get behind this, as minimal the effect would be.
The only time I even notice my characters hands are when I’m actively trying to do so, standing completely still, away from all dangers.
Between combat, particle effects, and what not, at times I forget I even have them.
But its a great idea anyway and I can see the appeal and reason for it.
I’ll post the same reply I did the last dozen times this subject has come up…

I love this idea. remove exploiting for workarounds on existing methods and allow us to do what we want with our gear while giving the company more money.

yeah… I know. but I can dream.. kicks stone
A warrior from square one cannot use his highest damaging single attack without first making a bunch of other smaller ones first. He has the opportunity for the highest one-shot damage skill, but no ready access like other skills. It has to be charged first.
Much in the same way many other mechanics work, ie mesmer shatters.
3 shatters all at once would certainly be up there too, but it also required preparation. The damage potential is there, but its not on one button press out the door.
Warriors can use their Healing Surge. >.>
yes, or their signet that recharges adrenaline. it’s still not a damaging skill by itself. You hit something else first, THEN your damaging skill, was the point. Potential, not out the door damage. (meaning, damage produced by the first button press)
regardless I still think the warrior kill shot would win out, even when next to a fully loaded mesmer shatter…but I could be wrong.
report it. if it’s a bug, hopefully they can fix it. there are account specific bugs still lingering in this game.
for example, masterwork harvesting tools are completely useless on my account, almost always returning scrap materials instead of anything usable, regardless of level. report it, hope for a fix in the future. best you can do.
Maybe your friends can help out with donating some gold to help you transfer over
if they are a good guild, they should already be doing this for you.
if you treat them like you post on the forums, I’m not surprised you feel like you have no options.
neat idea.
it sounds like someone is looking forward to the new assassins creed.
An all water WvW map would be amazing as well. with actual ship battles, I may never leave.
