honestly i was looking forward to fight all the new specs etc…now everything is so complicated and pve driven…..i just want the old wvw maps and mechanics back. it was sandbox and that is what made wvw wvw…

after grinding all my alts finally to their elite spec, i wanted to return to wvw, but the new bl is horrible. i get lost and its just not a wvw map its a pve map and as much as i can see the work that was put into it, i absolutely hate it. i will boykott this map and only play eb until old bls are back in rotation. new bl is worse pve than eotm and about 10000 times more kittened.
invisible zergs?seriously? laser events. keeplords that act like dungeon bosses. massive vertical keeps where we get lost for 15 minutes , wind blowing u off places, stupid pve shrines….and so much more that simply destroys wvw which is/well was a sandbox game mode which anet ruined because they never understood it…

old bl back please i will buy it with gems for my server!

i like that u are being constructive and all and u did put thought into this and if they keep this bl then some of the changes would definitely make things easier, but

honestly. there is no fixing……

i really went to look for it and ways to make this map work. i got lost for 10 minutes at first, then finally found the commander. tried the laser even had to pve a keeplord down and it was stupid. like real pve …. the ai shrine thing does also not work as it pushes u off if u dont have the shrine= pve again. ther is an area where everyone is invisible and its all foggy…. i mean really in wvw ? after all the culling and everything anet came up with that glorious idea?!!?

gliding will just turn this map more into a pve joke and yes the wvw changes have ruined wvw atm for everyone. all maps empty and the new bl is just like everyone warned form the beta an absolute disaster!
fact is: THIS IS NOT A WVW MAP so u cant fix this…

yeah the upgrades are terrible. but honestly. its both for me the upgrades and the terrible map that makes m e not even wanting to go and defend. it takes me way too long to get to a keep and defend and then its too complex for a fight/u fall off everywhere or stupid ai traps or wind blasts or then a leser….its just not wvw for me and i dont care about these weird keeps that dont even look like keeps.

i did prefer the old way of upgrading as escorting dolyaks was a thing and also scouts.
it was the player shaping the home bl with sieg and upgrading not the ai. now it ai only so its way less sandbox as it used to be and thats what kills this map completely same as eotm….

They need to merge servers. None of the new maps are filling up.

its not about the filling. this map has soo much pve and little ai stuff pluss pretty particles everywhere, it cant handle a 20v20v20 and will crash and skilllag will be worse than in eb stonemist!.
the map is the worst design for wvw not only is it to vertical, complex and confusing, its also terrible for lag and bigger fights. it should have been a pve map. it does not suit wvw as wvw maps should be kept simple because of the battles.

yeah id buy a wvw expansion for that …. seriously i just want a normal SIMPLE wvw map with SIMPLE keeps and towers and terrain. everything else will lag wvw out and wvw is not a map that needs to look like a pve map/ like eotm and the new borderlands.
the keeps should be actual keeps and not a complex ai and particle driven maze.

garrison, hills and bay were all keeps that looked like real keeps…soo yeah it was fun defending that.. and get rid of the kitten automated upgrades. it makes 0 sense…

Why does Anet do half the things they do for WvW?

I think it’s a number of factors:

1. They love cheese; like stealth, Golems, falling to your death, ambient creatures, etc.
2. They don’t really know what to do with WvW.
3. Therefore in their minds, the more cheese the better.

+1 man!
Add to this all other dull, stupid and not WvW crap like spikes getting from the floor, teleporting lords, lava pounds, auto turrets, bouncing air, no falling damage shrines, etc… I hoped so much WvW is about large scale player vs. player fighs, like PvP, just with greater numbers… Apparently I was so wrong…

so a plain square is all u guys wanted? the new maps are have alot in commin with GW1 gvg maps with those mechanics, except stealth fountian offcourse.

actually, yes!
less is more in wvw. we the players desing the way the battles go. the new maps are pve driven maps and not the same sandbox kinda game mode maps where the servs are given empty simple keeps and fight over it. instead of improving that sandbox style anet has turned wvw into a pve circus!

not really dead yet as many of us are still grinding the heropoints in pve for all our alts, plus regearing and farming gold for all the new armor and runes etc. then there is the guildhall grind where u need to get a ton of pve only mats aswell.

so i’d say give it time untill we all got our new stuff. i only play gw2 for wvw and i spent only a few hours in eb as i had to grind hp for 5 classes and level my revenant aaand gear everyone properly…so yeah, we will be back.

on another note, yeh the new bl might stay empty as it is more of an eotm map than a borderland map.the new map ist just too much pve and too laggy and way too complex. i play wvw for the fights and not the pve events..

and did they even consider the feedbacks of eotm? we told them that it was too pve driven and too complex, did they listen? did they even consider 1 of our feedbacks and suggestions? no they went ahead and made a map driven with pve mobs and pve events and complex keeps and a vertical map, they even put more pve in it eventhough for years we kept telling them please no pve.
they have proven that they dont understand wvw. it is a gamemode where the players design the map and the way they use it not the ai.
u wanna upgrade? need dolyaks
u wanna cap a keep? u need supply and well placed siege
u wanna defend? try to get dolyaks in and build siege
u wanna cap anything? be prepared to fight
u zerg? watch out for zergbusters… etc

now its u wanna cap? take shrine, do laser event, kill ai, kill mobs, kill lord cap
u wanna defend? try to reach enemy in time while walking for hours throug the maze, try to get to the second keeps for the next hour trying to find your way

wanna cap a keep? make sure u are on the map when zerg heads out or u will be lost and alone…wandering through pve ai driven areas and jumping puzzles…

no anet never listened to anything the community had to say. now we are all backed up in the corner with only eb still being sort of what wvw used to be like.

honestly , they didnt wanna listen to the player base. its not that the map was rushed and unfinished, its not a wvw map at all… its a pvp oriented pve map and not a wvw map.
there is no fixing this map as it is far too complex to be a wvw map. automated upgrades and maze/jumping pussle like keeps are ruining this map for me.

a keep should be a keep. check out castles and keeps irl or even fantasy movies if u have to. for example why cant i leave the spawn even in a normal way? why didnt they keep the map simple and the keeps? the more u clutter it with ai the more laggy it gets, so i dont even wann go there and stop forcing pve into this game mode.
also main issue is, the lack of wpoints for me. the same issue is with eotm. u log onto the map and the commander is somewhere north….
of trying to find my way through the stupid maze and finally catching up with the commander that was just wiped by enemy zerg. now i gotta run again. i spend 100 times more on running all over the place than actually engaging with the enemy.

i play wvw because i like the fights i dont need to be antizerg gated by anet, which is what they tried to do.

a map that is massive and not really fun for me as solo, as i barely meet anyone ever on the map and for group play its gated by pve mobs that are in the way, pve shrines, pve events pve collecting events, jumping puzzles and a huge cimplex area so even groups miss eachother. defending is also useless as the keeps are too complex and ai is replacing well placed sieging.

wvw was fun when we would actually take time with sieging and yakslapping and fighting guilds would zergbust. the new map is not unfinished, its not a real wvw map.

I played gw2 since headstart and after 2 weeks i discovered wvw and never looked back at pve again.
it was soo much fun to run with my guild around and either bust zergs or ninja keeps and towers or even engaging in hour long sieging just to finally get our hills back for example.
we had the whole server having meeting and distributing jobs between guilds. like the big guilds would concentrate on capping, fighting guilds would keep enemy zergs busy , small guilds would create distractions by ninja attempts and camp capping to prevent enemy from upgrading and other guilds would concentrate on home borderland to upgrade and siege refreshing.

the new map and eotm both do not fit that concept as they are too complex and the keeps dont feel like a keep or a castle as they are to ai driven and to complex again.

in wvw less is more and simple is better due to lag and also because the players design this game mode not the ai. automated upgrades , the pve laser event the massive horde of pve mobs, the vertical map(which favors stability classes, the ai traps and all that not only lag the map out, it also hurts this game mode more than it helps. if it was like a new eotm map, i’d say that ok, but not for the competitive wvw part.

please anet watch all the videos of guilds posting and reread our constructive posts where we did explain clearly what we wanted for a new map. LESS is more and SIMPLE FLAT maps are better and LITTLE TO NO PVE!!!

ill stay in eb and ignore the new pve map they forced upon us without even trying to understand wvw.
we asked for less pve in borderland maps and they overloaded it with it and made it so kitten complex i cant even find the way out of spawn. itshas also way to many ai and particles around which lag that horrible map out, so why even fight there.

nice to look at, but sorry this is not a wvw map.

i think if the new map wasnt a borderland map, i’d play it instead of eotm when im in queue. its not horrible and pretty pve friendly, so maybe a map for players that arent really into wvw completely. for a wvw veteran like myself, this map has a too much clutte, pve elements and is far too complex.
a simple new map with simple keeps and towers and no pve was wished for and yes a bit bigger than the old one, but they need to be simple.

1 map needs to have very little to no pve elements
2 keeps need to be simpler but better to defend(like make walls a bitt safer to aoe
3 less jumping, less vertical( cc heavy classes could dominate otherwise by trowing everyone off the cliffs
4 less clutter ( clutter like the new map has, lags the game out. in wvw massive zergs clash sometimes and together with all theose terrible pve traps,pve elements, pve mobs, pve ai traps, pve shrines and weird complex keeps, the map is unplayably laggy and i have seen game lagging to a point where noone could use anything appart from a sword 1 skill.

We are looking at adding a way for players to earn Quickloot in WvW as well. We wanted to keep PvE progression (Masteries) separate from WvW progression (Ability Lines). However this means when a new Mastery ability is created, that might also be useful in another gamemode, it doesn’t automatically crossover.

how about wvw mastery and not pve mastery? mwe got a ton of mastery points leftover since applied fortitude and guard stacks were taken out …soooo autoloot….u know……pve=boring for a lot of wvw players….

Okay, so now I log onto any of my characters that have never been to the jungle and they have 80% of their specialization completed.
I run to a few easy hero challenges in Verdant Brink and get to 100%. That’s character progression done for the next 3 years, I guess…

Most people don’t have 100% map completion on all their characters though.

A few of my characters also don’t have 100%. But I got them the heropoints in preparation for HoT ( what else was there to do?). If you don’t bother with hearts it’s just a matter of running through the maps and collecting them. Zero challenge, a meaningless effort really.
Just like the few VB heropoints needed are now. Just spend a few minutes walking there.

yeh, but not everyone plays gw2 for pve.
my guild mainly plays wvw and spvp and barely ever does any pve.
u have to realise that only because u like pve, doesnt mean everyone does. if u had to get your elite specialisation by grinding wvw and spvp for weeks (or even months cause most of us have like 8-10 classes or even more) u would also not be too happy about that.

the only real way to get the hp right now in a decent way, is to go pve as the wvw heropoint aquiring is horrible.

the problem for me is not that it is hard. i think for pve players, masteries and hard content was much needed and is good. but for wvw players the heropoint grind is tough.especially in wvw new builds and the elite specialisations are important, thats why grinding hard pve content is a pain. its doable of course and eventhough i hate pve, i have been grinding 3 elite specialisations so far….but id rather be playing wvw.

a larger map was needed but its still too big. in wvwv less is more as wvw is a game mode where the players decide what happens. if nobody watches a keep and refreshes siege etc, it will be taken by another server for example and if no dolyak makes it to the keep, well it cant upgrade.
wvw should not be a maze like eotm, new map is a massive confusing maze.
keeps way way way to weird and dont even look like a polace anyone would stay at whereas at the old maps the keeps actually were real keeps and not random mazes with jumping puzzles and weird pve elements and ai traps

some areas of the new map are nice and flat and i can see some nice fights happening

let the player make traps and siege dont force it on them or let ai control it as it feels much better if you placed a siege well or your trap prevented the enemy from having enough supply or u killed that 1 dolyak that would have upgraded the keep u were attacking…etc

keep pve out of wvw
less is more in wvw.
less ai elements
remove pve laser event
make keeps actually look like a real keep without the weird eotm mazes
no automated upgrades
no ai traps
simplify the entire map its too cluttered and to much stuff makes the map laggy

lol yeah if heroic points would be easier for wvw players to obtain…. i actually did pve and got my chronomancer…..now alll my alts have to do the same thing? hell no i play gw2 for wvw and 1 day in pve in that glider/ mastery hell was enough for me…

please enable the notary soon and maybe make it a bit fairer. im happy to pay more badges…..but i want my hero points

Without map completion makes it more tedious. I only have map completion on one, maybe two characters and I decided to do the first elite on a Revenant.

i had map completion on my mesmer and could unlock some of the chronomancer abilities and then grinded the heropoints...... on my necro it would require to grind all of them plus the rest of pve ...ill just do wvw instead as i hate pve

yeah i’ve spent all day yesterday grinding for masteries and finally getting heropoints…today ill move on to wvw and get my hero points there.

map looks great and the events are tough, but as a pvp player 1 day swearing and yelling at my mouse and smashing my spacebar. cause glider failed to open….and almost throwing my alienware laptop out of the window, i will move on to wvw heropoint grind….

yeah i beta tested it and feedback was exactly this for months now. its too large, too complex and not a real wvw map. it should have been a new eotm map and not replace the old maps. simple is more in wvw. ill eb only i guess…

1. Design with minimal/no consultation.

2. Build a map they think we want (which probably costs their company a 6 figure sum).

3. Ask for feedback when they’re already deeply committed with the amount of money they’ve spent coding/building it.

4. Hands are tied because the money is already spent.

If they were to implement your feedback (shrink the map) they’d be up for another 6 figure sum.

They need to do more customer centric design with early iterative feedback.

true, but they should have listened in this forums a bit more before committing to a map design…

1. id say 90% of the players kepts saying less pve when anet started putting pve events from halloween and toxic stuff and all that into our wvw. we also been saying for years that none goes to the centaur camp or the skritt cause its pve and not important.

2. we said we wanted better keeps that u cant exploit as much as u could the old ones with theives gate tagging etc, but after the eotm feedbacks, they should have known that too complex keeps arent the answer.

3. we had a ton of constructive feedback threads after eotm about what a new wvw map should be like. not a single one of them mentioned a meta map even with a giant laser, ai traps, very complex asurastyle keeps or less waypoints. none wanted narrow passages that are like jumping puzzles are shrines. we nevere asked for pve events like shrines.
so before cluttering a wvw map which is a game mode where the players used to make the rules by smart siege placing, ninja actions, intercepting dolyaks so keeps couldnt upgrade, mesmers hiding and mesmer searches.. etc, anet should have actually played wvw from the beginning of gw2 to get the feel for the game mode.
the people that designed the new area dont seem to understand the game mode very well.

i just got my chronomancer spec done and the only reason for that is, because i already did the map completion grind once. now on my necro it will be way worse.
im ok with doing it a bit but the area is very hard and i am not a pve player. after yesterdays grind, im done with chronomancer and i will try to get my hp through wvw (eb map, as the new one is too laggy and horrible).

now im sure some pve players will love this hard content, but there should be an option for those players that dont like grinding.

guild wars 2 was advertised for years as play how u want, it would be nice if i could play wvw with my specialisations without the grind.

the old borderland map just had more of a castle defense feel to it where the player made strategic decisions. i do miss those times where we would send in a smaller guild to hills so the entire map blob would run there where the other guild ninja’d bay…. now its all about running for aaaaages to get anywhere and then u have to kill pve mobs to get a weird buff wich is again a pve thing and then u go to the keep. if u die on the way there u will be punished that u will not be able to catch up with your guild anymore as u a will have to walk through a complex maze just to get out into the open field and that open field is cluttered with pve mobs and traps now. it just doesnt haved the wvw feel for me.

at least the fire keep does look like a a keep but. atm noone even bothers to put up siege cause pve events will take care of it just like in eotm wich is also way to complex.

we beta tested it, we gave that same feedback, anet didnt change 1 single thing.

yeah i beta tested it and feedback was exactly this for months now. its too large, too complex and not a real wvw map. it should have been a new eotm map and not replace the old maps. simple is more in wvw. ill eb only i guess…

i want the old maps back too. new one is too annoying has no waypoints and too much pve. it creates karmatrains as nooen wants to spend 30 minutes trying to find the way on your own to your group.just make it the new eotm….

I dont get it. There has been vast amounts of feedback of how we dont want WvW turning into another EOTM… how we want less PVE, less gimmicks, less vertical, less karma train – just a solid map which makes big battles possible and logical. You chose to completely ignore us and actually do your best to offend us in any possible way by doing the exact opposite… why do you hate us WvW players so much?

yep exactly that. we told them what we wanted. there were a ton of GREAt ideas and constructive threads. there were also a ton of feedbacks about eotm…. and i know that a ton of the guilds i play with and people i got to know since the release of gw2(and me mainly playing wvw…over 4k hours…) lots and lots of wvw people will not like this map… at all.
i think anet ignores us on purpose, cause THEY know better and THEY only want NEW players. and they hope NEW players will only like wvw if they make it as complex and pve heavy like eotm….well gg anet u just turned your gold called wvw u had into stone!

- 90% of the time WvW game mode doesnt work (6 second skill delay OR 150+ ping) which makes the game mode unplayable.

i play the game mode with 400-600 ping most of the time. it becomes unplayable at 1200+ ping…

also wvw is about large scale battles. i never join the zerg i like running in smaller groups busting zergs :-) try finding a zergbusting guild and u will see the difference.

well, i am in a zergbusting guild and skill lag is quiet annoying, but things like toning down shadows and high character models and activating teamcolors seem to help a lot with this. i tone down animations too as during the opening of a massive fight, the skill spam goes crazy.for me the main issue is the amount of internet it consumes…which is an issue if u live in australia

This map should replace or add to EOTM and leave the existing borderland maps.

this, so much. i never go to eotm.its too confusing, too annoying with npc and if u die u gotta run for aaaages and if u dont run with the zerg u will die to npc and other pve elements. this new map has the same issue imo. too large, not enough wp and too complex. and then there are all those pve elements i hate, like jumping and ai traps…. wvw is about the players. its a sandbox kinda gamemode where we are in charge of it not npc or pve element or pve events!

now the new map is great looking and has some fun parts, but it shouldnt replace our borderland maps. i can see myself going there if im bored with the current wvw but i want it optional not forced upon us.

im in a fighting guild and we bust zergs. thats what i always did and always loved. this new map takes this away as there are too many complex things on this map, like air keep is a joke to me.i would not go there. …..it is tough to find a good spot to engage a zerg for example and the npcs everywhere will rallie the zergs multiple times which destroys zergbusting groups (there is a reason why zergbusters run tagless…pug rallie the zerg!!!)

so for me its like, ill only queue for eb as i dont like this map as my wvw map.

in wvw less is more, we dont need fancy vertical maps as vertical= more room for exploits, siege overload spots, non stability heavy classes are rendered unviable (eg necro and mes have very little stab access)

oh and people like me that suck at jumping…this map is not fun!! i mean how am i on my mesmer supposed to kite 2 warriors that have stab on and can just stand there and spam their abilities if i have no room or will simply be pushed over the cliff over and over again and then on top of that i have to jump over multiple obstacles( yeah blink and ileap and 90% of our skills dont work well in such areas)

this map is mainly for warriors , eles and guards and probably remenant.

just make it optional, so eb is not our only hope to actually have fun= 2-5 hour queues.

i just got the strong feeling that this map will be a giant karmatrain only. the size makes us kinda avoid fights and u have to do tasks to get ways into keeps etc…..its eotm ( a better eotm actually), but its not a wvw borderland map. way to vertical and the vertical frustrates me and almost made me ragequit . i hate jumping and im terrrible at it! im like the only mesmer main that needed to be ported to about every single jp in the game…… thats how much i hate jumping and vertical stuff. and on a mes a fight on vertical is the worst thing ever. blink fails nonstop and kept getting obstructed everywhere. so its gonna be a war,/guard/ ele only in wvw because of this map. nah i will queue for eb and thats it!

agreed. it doesnt feel like wvw and for me as a fighting/ zergbuster, i dont like this as a replacement for my wvw boderland map. i would love this map however as an edge of the mist map. this would have been the perfect eotm map actually as it is a little too havy on pve and probably more fun for a pve player than a wvw player.

a wvw map should be way way way less complex and more sandbox like and ai and mobs should be reduced. i really hate kiloling mobs. thats why i never ever play pve. i also haaaaaaate jumping puzzles, the new map is too complex with jumping etc, but thats the whole reason i play wvw and not pve.
this map is great for pve players that wanna try a bit of pvp and still have some nice mobs and a pretty looking map. a wvw player does not want any of that

yeah agreed. the buffs are a bad idea. i can see the outmanning zerg dominating the entire map with these buffs and the underdog having 0 chance to recover or even ninja things.

it is eotm, not a borderland map.

the good: love that the map is big and it looks very beautiful

the bad:
way too much eyecandy, very annoying passages
not enough space for nice battles. ( i love zergbusting and i love a good large scale battle which doesnt seem to be possible)
the terrain will be horrible for certain classes that already have a hard time with terrain. mesmers blink will fail about 90% of the time and terrain for example.

agree with the walls… they are massive and the way my server defends… u shalll not pass ac spam is back

the ugly: way way way too much ai and pve elements.
to many siege chokepoints
gives mapblobs advantage
the terrain is not practical for a wvw map

dear anet: i love the eycandy, but as a wvw player, thats not what i need. it could work as an optional wvw map like eotm, but should not replace our boderland maps. as a wvw player since release all i can tell u about wvw:

think of it a little more as a sandbox style game mode. less is wayway way more
we dont want crazy ai and weird buffs. we dont want more ai control we want more player control. we need less pve. and flat terrain. too many cliffs will make aall classes without massive stability non viable= we will have our heavy train back again.

well ill need to queue with my mesmer and necro for eb then ….

i got one but i got over 4k hours in wvw . i think they checked wvw guilds and active players. just buying hot doesnt mean u are great at beta testing a wvw map. people that mainly wvw in active guilds, will find exploits and bugs quicker than a wvw casual or a pve player.

i dont mind pu being nerfed. i dont use it anyways. plus for me its easy to fight a pu mes as i know how baddies play the mes. so yeah reverting pu to the way it was could remove the stealth burst mesmer meta.
but honestly, u guys will still be crying for more nerfs until mes is nonviable again…. even if its coremechanics that have been in the game since launch. decoy has always been instacast, so has torch 4, distortion has always worked that way and shatter mes has always been high burst,phaseretreat has ALWAYS been that way and people have not cried about it!!!!!!!!!! and mantra of distraction has also been that ways and yes there has always been lockdownmesmers since before glamour builds even. first lockdown was even invented by the leader of avtr guild(before glamour nerf) .
the things that have changed are blind on shatter, ip made baseline (much needed as in other gamemodes shatters without ip are not possible due to aoe destroying clones…u know there are other modes u know apart from 1v1 spvp …. u know like pve and wvw u know like other game modes…) yes and mantras are now even viable, really viable!

so the mesmers u guys cry about are the pu cheesefactory stealth burst shatterers which are very predictable as thats the only thing they can actually do.

they see u, they stealth they burst, rinse and repeat… u take away their stealth and they are done for.( in wvw ill go in stealth,place a stealthtrap and laugh at mesmer noob not knowing what to do.)

no, because if u have better loot, u’ll get all pve ktrains in wvw. id rather have items that can only be used in wvw and drop that only benefit wvw. then we might be able to improve the loot in wvw without having pve farmers. remeber the kraits that used to be in wvw lakes? yeah remember the massive bot trains that were farming them in the lake and clogging up the queues? yeah that will happen if u improve the loot.
