The ‘advantage’ of wvw is that it’s actually fun. At least, it is when roaming or zergbusting. Zerging on the other hand is almost as boring as running the queensdale champ train for 18 hours a day.
and thats exactly what happens in eotm. the pve players dont care to zergbust or defend. they just wanna run from one objective to the next and get karma. i love zergbusting. it requires a lot of communication and organisation to do so. but the new maps…..sorry they look like eotm 2 with pve mobs pve events pve traps pve shrines that no one wants and pve jumping puzzles….. it does look bad for the real wvw players.
please anet do not turn wvw into a pve /eotm karmatrain
If the rewards were too good, it would draw in too many casual players and hurt WvW gameplay. WvW has limited capacity, and the people who play it are playing it because they like it, not because it is the fastest way to get rich or has the exclusive weapon skins.
I think that Anet’s original plan was for scouts and roamers to farm T6 mats near objectives when things were quiet. Arctoduses in the northeast, spiders in the south, minotaurs in the west…
Take for example Northeast Camp:
- Capturing Camp = 0.04% of a World Experience Rank.
- Defending Camp = 0.017% of a World Experience Rank.
- Killing Player = 0.000-0.012% of a World Experience Rank and chance at player loot.
- 1 World Experience Rank = ~25s and 2 pieces of loot, probably green
- Killing 4 Arctoduses and a Vet Arctodus = significant chance for either Potent Blood or Powerful Blood.
As a scout/escorter/roamer (missing out on those high wxp capture events), you are likely to make more money killing a random bear every once in awhile than you get from WxP ranks. I wonder if the new borderland will have anything similar to Chider…
But would causal players actually go to servers with already increased queue times? What causal player would want to deal with that but instead go towards servers with little or no queues.
Also, everyone had to “learn” WvW at some point, so I dont even pretend to accept the introduction of new players into WvW as a bad thing (also known as Noobs).
of course they will join the winning servers…who wants to work hard? pve players for sure dont. it easier to join a massive zerg and spam 1111 all day long whil gaining karma. they will not go to losing servers. why do u think many pve players wanted wvw maps gone from pve map completion? cause they were on the losing server and kept getting overrun by massive blobs.

exactly this will happen. reminds me of the dragon timer event stuff for pve… =_=
no thank you otherwise we have yak walkers/pve players all day long clogging up the queues while doing nothing but walking yaks. they used to give wxp and karma before and that is what happened.
ok im a wvw only player and no i dont wanna have to bash for 5 hours plus on boring meeaningless pve mobs to get my skills. i want to either have the option to unlock them with my 8k badges which i have obtained since realease of gw2 or have all the skills and traits already unlocked in wvw.
i havent even gotten my ascended armor yet as i hate having to chop wood or try to grind enough gold to buy stuff for crafting.
i mean anet always favors pve players even made a wvw map for pve players called eotm which is horrible and a boring ktrain for a wvw player. but at least let the wvw players unlock the traits and skills with badges or something like that.
i think the pve player community got mad because their eotm ktrain got zergbusted by an actual wvw guild and anet want the pve community go wvw….just look at the trailer of the new pve..i mean wvw map. they got shirnes yay and an event omg how awesome woohooo we get more pve mobs in wvw so we get all theose pve karmatrains in wvw.yaaaay awesome. the new map is like a big jumping puzzle …remeber how pve players cried about the eb jumping puzzle? yeah the removal of applied fortitude and strength is aslo a result of pve players crying because they got killed in eotm which is not a real wvw map!
eotm is not really a wvw map in my opinion. too much pve stuff, too complex for massive battles and honestly its mainly a karma train for pve players or people that are bored in their own borderlands. using eotm as testing grounds is a very very bad idea. im really worried about the new hot maps…they look more like pve jumping puzzles than actual battle fields.
using the actual borderlands that is not pve bosses infested like eotm would have been a much better idea…. and yes many issues could have been avoided if it was tested…
idk but it looks like wvw is turing into a pve(eotm) karmatrain ….the dolyaks are just the start. the new map already looks like a eotm complex jumping puzzle for pve players to go and do pve stuff like killing a pve boss in wvw. ugh got a bad feeling about this all….

I don’t believe ANet is as evil and insensitive as most posters here think. The pessimism here is so… internetish.
My main has had map completion since soon after game release. My other level characters range from 1 to 65% with between 0 and 90 skill points above everything unlocked. I’m working the characters I enjoy toward map completion, but am not panicking and inventing unsubstantiated theories.
Do you folks honestly believe that ANet is going to screw over PvP and WvW players? If your opinion of ANet is that low, why do you even play this game? Lotsa stuff to play if GW2 goes south, ya know.
its not a low opinion type thing, its a question of what anet thinks is fair and within their game design.
First of all, as far as SPVP anet never intended SPVP people to be able to fully progress their charachters in pve. That came later, when they decided to unify the armor systems and what not.
There is no requirement that spvp people be able to fully progress their charachters for PVE mode, in fact it is imo a very bad idea. PVE is mostly about progression, your levels, experience, and skills are awarded as per the game design to encourage you to enjoy what pve has to offer.Now, as far as WvW, that is problematic, they do actually need the skills and traits to progress. This essentially comes down to whether they see WvW as an extension on PVE, or its own separate thing.
As it is now, i would reccomend that they do allow people to progress their charachters skills/traits in WvW, or at least minimize the effort, however if they decide that WvW is supposed to involve some amount of pve, thats their decision.

erm how about no!i dont wanna be forced to do pve just to use my traits in wvw. i got a lot of skillpoints but i really hope i dont have to do pve stuff to unlock traits etc…
as a wvw player id rather just log in with my level 80 characters and put my points in the traitline without having to use gold for traits or do a pve quest. if it needs something let me buy it with wvw badges…
So after 3 years of waiting for an expansion this is the best you guys could come up with? A watered down version of a Trap Ranger? Really?
DH is a disgraceful elite class that is unappealing and not really going to do anything to bring players to either the class or the game.

I can see u bein upset, but i think people are a little overreacting. I dont like the name and think the traps will definitely need a little rework etc done, but the spec is not that terrible at all.
before getting all worked up, id say wait a little until we have actual numbers. i could see a few things that are quiet useful in wvw for example.
I see a little more condis coming for guards that take that spec and thats one of the things guard was lacking.
a lot of those specializations are changing playstyles of certain classes… mes needed more group support and aoe and more non ai dmg(chronomancer opens up doors there for sure. reaper could help pve necros a little also has great pvp potential at the right spots. it opens up a ton of builds which necro needed.
guardians were in a very balanced and strong spot to begin with. they are like war the top picked class in pretty much every game mode. the specialization might not be a big change or something everyone wants to use( and certainly needs a bit of work still), but it does bring new things that can be useful depending on game mode.
what im trying to say is, yes it seems a little underwhelming at first sight, but i think it has potential and the already strong guardian class can certainly make use of it. im sure that guards are still gonna be a must have in wvw groups in hot so lets wait and see until we get the final product.
necro needed buffs. stop being scared of being strong. we deserve the long needed changes. same with chronomancers mes needed buffs too. dont think about nerfing anything yet.
1: we havent seen all other classes yet
2: the numbers arent fixed yet
3: necro shall be feared and respected again(and maybe be able to pve a little)

Do you not see the true power of a Reaper as the Chronomancer feeds it quickness and alacrity. Chrnomancers do you not see protection and condition support that Reaper can provide. Chilled enemies, Slowed enemies, faster casts, reduced cooldowns, poisoned enemies, stunned enemies, dazed enemies. Do you not see!
im saying it now…chrono reaper teams in wvw….gg mapblob. they can make a great team for sure.
erm….idk about everyone else, but im actually really really excited about the reaper cant wait to try out all the combos and traits and make my reaper build…. and i think anet actually did listen….its not perfect but i love the reaper so…sorry op but i have to disagree with u.
idk yet how chrono will play out in pve but i think having non ai aoe with wells etc is defenitely a step in the right direction. im not sure that a new weapon would change the pve mes viability. pve and wvw zerg is a little similar. in both cases ai does not much for u.
a new main hand would not help u much in pve nor would it in wvw. the wells a re non ai which is great and they are aoe too. so lets see how the new chrono skills will play out in pve. there are new traits that could also help your pve play. i think whith whoever at anet is helping with the class balance and new designs is definitely making a good effort and im sure step by step mes will get back into the pve meta.
Mesmer takes twice the skill to play for half the result, compared to other classes.
I think your looking at this the wrong way.
Players have different skill levels. Playing a higher skills class and being good at it is the reward. If you put a new MMO player in your build your using how efficient will they be compared to say running a lb/gs ranger build or something? Prob not very viable at all. Most MMO’s have different professions @ different skill levels.
I choose to play mesmer because of the skill required to master it, i’d fall asleep rolling any other profession.
I think the biggest problem is that mesmer requires you to be a perfectionist. If you play perfectly, you will do well, but every mistake can be heavily punished. While many other classes can win by falling asleep and rolling onto the keyboard. It’s not that mesmers require skill to master, but thay they require skill to get to the point that other classes reach by mashing their face on the keyboard.
this so much. every little step has to be made perfectly. u cant just hop on mes, see an enemy and spam 1111. u gotta know exactly what u want to do before u engage. mesmer is all about timing and knowing how to work around cooldowns. and also if u are unlucky and are engaged with the wrong weapons equipped( like in wvw when u are using gs in a zergfight but then get engaged by a thief where id say gs is is not the ideal weapon against perma stealth glass thief….
honestly for all those guards and wars crying here… erm have u actually tried to follow a zerg that is a little ahead of u on a mesmer? i mean without having to use runes….without focus. try to follow the commander…….yeh so im perfectly fine with this as a minor trait and its not op.
The guardian didn’t NEED anything. Necro and mesmer have gaps in their abilities since launch. Dragon Hunters gave Guardians exactly what they wanted forever, ranged dps and ways to stop people from disengaging. Only reason people are crying is because the Chrono and Reaper LOOK like they got a lot More, but neither is in anywhere near a good spot as the Guardian and probably still won’t be
I agree with guardians being in a great spot and meta in all game modes and yes necro and mes are finally getting long needed improvements that makes their classes unique and brings em in line with other classes like war and ele and guard, BUT dragonhunter does still not really fit a guardian! traps and all that seems just weird on a guard make him a cleric(supportive) or an exorcist (offensive) and it would look a little better. but not all is terrible. i think some changes look promising and who knows maybe a few new builds will come out of it once its actually released
hmm for some reason i thought some kinda cleric typ specialisation would have fit way better than a dragonhunter with bow…idk but it just doesnt fit the guardian well. some sort of cleric or even exorcist type would fit a guard better. but thats just me. ill still check out the new stuff and i can see a few interesting options for wvw builds…
erm if u think an expansion that brings a few new changes and class specific is pay to win then u clearly have no clue about pay to win. play an r2 game once and u will see pay to win. pay to win would be for example that u can buy monthly vip and vips can gain acces to special areas or farm a dungeon 5 times daily instead of non vip 2 times a day some p2win games would even do a level cap for non vips etc. that is pay to win.
1 expansion that brings new class specifications and a new class is def not a pay to win thing its a 1 time fixed price…. and who knows if they make it like dc universe u can maybe buy specialisations for each class in the gems store and u can get gems with gold…who knows. anyways dont call this pay to win as it is clearly not.
i used to use scepter all the time during glamour times but nowadays its not viable anymore. maybe we will get a few improvements in future.
i dont see them with a blunt weapon but im still dreaming about a mainhand pistol <3
wow im looking forward to the challenge. :-) necros did need gap closers and im interested to duel them in future. as i play necro aswell of course im happy about the changes but still hyped more about my chronomancer :-)
yeah but usually its never this bad. atm its 2 am here noone else using the net and usually i can play without any issues around this time. today its like this for hours.
i can confirm this my ping is between 500-700 when at spawn. if i hit a zergfight or anything its around 1.5- 3.5 k ping = unplayable. im on YB and its terrible!

guardian was well off before and a popular pick in all game modes. mes seems to get lots of improvement that will bring them back and this is needed. as much as I wanted to like the mes after the massive nerfbats, i just felt like the mesmer lacked traits and skills that made us unique (mainly in wvw) because all roles were already filled by another class:

backline ganks: thief, engi, ranger
mes sorta backline sorta zerg as veil and portalbot otherwise roamerthats how i kinda felt. but the new changes can bring us back. so far things look promising and im sure other classes and specializations will be just as exciting.

so far the wells dont seem strong yet but i do see options and use for them in wvw i could see them helpful for groupplay. i think we have to see the whole thing and more well traits in order to really see their potential. so far i could see well mes as a part of a zerg busting group
Was hoping saying it once was enough but I’ll say it again. This is a work in progress. Try to give feedback based on the utility and synergy of the trait instead of the numbers. Slow every 3rd critical hit could also be every 10th critical hit. It could be 8s of slow instead of two. Obviously these numbers are an attempt to be accurate otherwise we wouldn’t even give them but a lot of this stuff will go up and/or down before HoT is released.

This trait “Time Marches On” is Too OP.
Compared to Warrior he have to spec into 2 trait lines (Defense+Discipline) and pick 2 Major traits to get a similar effect, but Chronomancer spec in 1 line and get it as a Minor trait.
Do you remember we got an offhand? My..the.. crying never stops….
its typical war. when we had glamour builds they cried the loudest before they even tried speccing into condi removal. now mes finally gets help with movement and cc and immediately the whining starts.
we have very little access to stability or swiftness and also our condi cleanse is not the best atm so this trait seems pretty good and balanced atm. we shall see when we have everything revealed and all classes specialisations and then people can go cry. but atm i think this trait is well needed for a wvw mesmer that got turned into a veil/portal bot because of war crying.
anyways i think the all is well trait sounds interesting if it was 2 condis as it is at the end after all, but then again i havent seen those wells yet or the cds.
time catches up sounds great for wvw as super speed would be needed in zergfights.
i do see chrono phantasma as an interesting option for shatter specs but the one i like the most for wvw mes as slowing the enemy is great in big fights. idk yet about seize the moment as 1 s quickness doesent appeal to me yet. maybe because im not planning on using a shatter build…

Like a lot of people, I still haven’t settled on a class for HoT.
However I want to make a suggestion on a funny strategy. Call it “Gopher Up”. Have everyone scatter and drop portals, the zerg then moves from portal to portal that are scattered everywhere. Looking like the old game of whack a mole. It would be funny to hear, and funny to watch. Good luck with your group, and I hope I get to see it. (I’m on FA too)
Apparently Team Legacy did that during WvW against a very organized guild group at one time as a counter to their deathball tactic as the deathball could never run over the Team Legacy zerg as it kept porting around … back when there wasn’t a limit.
I actually believe that the first group to do this was Kylia’s guild Avatar. I’m trying to remember the deathball zerg guild, but I can’t quite remember it. They were always rather suspected of using a botting program due to the compactness of the deathball.
Did he/his guild quit gw2? Would have been the perfect guinea pigs for this kind of thing.
yes kylia did quit gw2. if u want guinea pigs…well some of us AVTR people are still around plus i can ask him about his input on things.
If you are having problems in the silverwastes, maybe take a look at your build/playstyle and adjust accordingly. You don’t need staff-spamming or anything like that.
playstyle has nothing really to do with it. I dont use my mes in pve as mesmer in the current state is a 1v1 duelist. we lack aoe and many of our traits rely on the opponent to attack us or so like with confusion.confusion worked great in wvw but in pve was not viable at all. same with clone deat trais. most of the mobs are highly resistant to condis. our main dps comes from phantasma that die in aoe. thats why im much better off using my war to farm. easy mode u run in button mesh and u collect the loot. as mesmer u stay our u try to hit mobs but until your phantasm reached or the shatter happened they are allready all dead cause the warriors have killed the mobs .
Knowing how fast I am to call ‘em out on mishandling things … I’ll give fair cred on this one. Hell, I know how long I’ve suggested some of these changes on my end.
- Improved Confusion application
- Confusion-on-’Rupt
- IP and IE as default … I did not see that one coming, whatsoever.
- Looks like downed traits ate the axe, finally
- What, I’m no longer a slave to Traveller Runes? (hops around)
Honestly, the only parts I’d offer a complaint on would be:
- Shield. Only because Mesmer’s loaded on offhands, seriously.
- Clonedeath got punked. Not my “favorite,” but still a valid lifestyle.
i agree with u we didnt need another offhand. i was wishing for a mh pistol, but i think yes anet did listen to our complains. as a wvw main ip as baseline and confusion apply improvements will make a change. the signet improvements could be great too. things multiple people have asked for. so far things are looking more promising than ive expected. honestly i though i was going to delete my mes and replace it with remenant cause i am really frustrated with the current state of mesmer in wvw (zergplay/zergbusting). i wanna be feared again in wvw like during glamour build meta and so far i do see some promising options.
this really looks promising so far. im getting a little excited as i see many many options to spec with changes like these especially new options for our wvw mesmer players. good stuff so far.this could pull the mesmer a little out of the veilbot wvw meta. we shall see how it goes. the ip change is getting me real excited though as in wvw your clones die too quick so f1-f4 used to be pretty useless or luck based now with ip like that yess i get to shatter in zergs and still can spec in other trees
ugh this is sooo annoying i keep seeing the guildchat from one of the guilds i never rep and they talk sooooooooooo much im about to leave all guilds and start new if this doesnt get fixed!!!!!
same here and i keep seeing guildchats from a guild im in but not representing. then i wanna chat and i cant as it says not in guild. but im in 4 guilds and cant see the chat on my main one only the chat from another even when not repping it. what is going on?
Mesmers used to have much better confusion application on glamours, if I recall correctly.
yeah it was fun to play glamour mesmer. i still sometimes run it just for fun, but with the bb nerf it simply is too weak. good thing is though that feedback and nullfield support and deal dmg thats why i like running it once in a while. i think more non ai heavy builds would bring the proper zergmesmer back. so lets hope that something will change.

i would wait…, but then again i do have my doubts about the rebalance. a proper rebalance would be for me personally(so id play mesmer again) that i can play my mes again in wvw and teamfights without being a veilbot or portal train.maybe a way to avoid ai and have an option to spec for aoe.
in spvp im sure there will be some interesting changes, but wvw…i have sorta lost faith for mesmer unless we get hexes or something that could bring back the mesmer to its former gw1 glory or somehow glamour mes wvw glory(maybe a little less deadly than what it used to be XD)
if they add a specialization that removes clones and ai from mes or tweak it so we got hex like aoe’s, ill come back and play my mes in wvw again. otherwise ill just delete my mes and make room for the new class.
and thats the reason why i like playing a moba sometimes where 90% of the players are russians and i dont understand any of the insults XD.
but seriously, dont take them serious. they just rant that they were outplayed and cant handle a loss well. im sure, we all have our nerdrage moments..well unfortunatley there is som extreeem ragers out there…
rule is, if u are uplevel try to stay on siege if in a keep or tower fight..dont follow untagged guild groups, dont follow guild groups. if u die and rally the enemy, yes it can cause people to lose the fight cause of u rallying them. but im against whispering nasty things cause everyone has the right to be in wvw and yes u will die a lot at first, but thats part of improving. try to find some nice people to group up with and im sure wvw will be fun

Almost every single team in all Anet’s tourneys run a shatter mesmer. The best duelist class shoundt have so much mobility (portal,blink). The imune spam via evades was nerfed on thief. Now is time to nerf the imune spam via shatter F4/sword 2.
People claimed a nerf for hambows because everyone was running 1. Why dont we see the same with mesmer? They are present in the great majority of top teams. Be easy or hard to play shouldnt be taken in account for balance, they need to balance around how the top players perform with the class.
Suggestions: increase the base damage on F1 but reduce the way it scale with power. Increase base dmg but shatter cant crit. Change F4 from imune to -50% dmg, or only imune to direct dmg (like endure pain). Put a cast time on staff #2 (only insta cast weapon teleport in game? ).
so u are saying, because YOU have an issue at the TOP RANKS in spvp with 1 build that is strong YOU want to punish every other mesmer in the game that plays wvw pve and maybe is not as skilled as those top players by nerfing shatter…. wow thats not selfish at all. shatter is really hard to play properly. its all about5 timing and placement. if u remove f4(btw go check the cooldown on that skill) u will punish every single mesmer and mesmer build with that. f4 is very important in a zergfight for example. thats like taking away a warriors invul…
i think u really need to play shatter mesmer first in order to understand it and how to counter it.
also all your nerfs would affect every build and also would take away even more from the wvw mesmer that still struggles to keep up. so id suggest check and study the class and play shatter for yourself watch their videos and then u might understand that your suggestions are terrible.
im glad they did something vs people being able to hit upull u and rapid fire u in the lordsroom but it looks rushed and unfinished

the builds u are talking about might work for 1v1. i tried a ton of different spvp builds, that has never been an issue for me. but the meta change put mes in a bad spot, not hopeless but not good at all. in wvw where id say we need the most help, we finally getting help and i think torment could actually help a little bit with at least tagging, but idk yet, i havent seen the patch notes yet. but i really dont understand people panicing about the scepter aa buff. u dont even know what comes along with that and stuff. if u overreact already with stupid polls and all that then sorry but dont cry if we get barely anything next patch.
if the scepter aa torment buff is over the top it will get fixed im sure, the pu nerf is not so harsh, but together with the clone deathtrait its a big one, but we havent seen the patchnotes yet so the world does not end yet.

i just dont get anet. they finally give us buffs, but then really big nerfs with it. why is it so hard to simply buff the mesmer that is weak and help the build diversity. clonedath change is the worst. i hope they give use some other goodies like bugfixes along with that.

because yes mesmer should be dangerous if they wield a sceper. scepter used to be good before confusion nerf and then it was just a slow whatever kinda weapon. especially in wvw id love to be able to make a torment condi build which i already had but with the scepter i think its a great addition.
and no its not op, but its very strong which is good. mesmer need to be able to come back into the meta. i have shelved mine fore like 4 months now.
how to buff mes:
1 fix bugs
2 fix bugs
3 rework mantras
4 unnerf glamours and other nerfs
5 buff aoe
6 give us aoe
7 buff confusion and nerf perplexity so it becomes a mes speciality again
8 fix bugs
9 fix ai
10 fix bugs
11 rework ai, rework weapons, rework all ai even more!
11 did i mention fix bugs?
