Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Hello fellow rangers!
I’ve played ranger almost exclusively through every division. Upon hitting diamond a week into the season, I began testing out several different variations and playstyles. With the 10-20 minute ques, I took about a week and a half off to wait for more players to catch up to diamond, then I got back to the grind.
This is the build I played for the majority of diamond (and the first half tier 1 legendary), hopefully it’ll do you guys some good.
1. It’s a great team fighter and point bunker
2. SnR is not needed if you use Celestial Avatar correctly (team shouldn’t die)
3. Damage comes from your pet
4. Make sure you maximize your damage buffers
5. Decapping is easy with the Glyph of Tides
As a side note, I’ve won nearly every team fight I was a part of due to the healing, condition cleansing, and damage boosts I was able to provide.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Hadrianxii repeatedly afks and jumps around in circles in late diamond… He’s caused numerous people frustration and really deserves a ban. It’s aggravating and disappointing when you work hard and people like this just screw your kitten up…
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
lets face it, we never needed a buff to WHaO. Pretend the buff never happened and ask youself if it did, it didn’t…
but Shouts in general do…
If they were to to say, "yeah we kittened up, well take this as an opportunity to take a look at under utilized shouts and make improvements there " then im ok with it. If they can somehow synergize the shouts, make the “others” useful, and tweak the knee-jerk nerf to WHaO slighty (mostly in regards tweaking the might limitations), maybe we can come out of this ahead. That’s what I would like to see come out of this anyway
Since the boon buff to “WHaO!” was nerfed to very short durations, it could really be applied to ALL shouts now and not be OP.
That would be a pretty nice improvement to shouts in general, imo.
Protect Me = Inferior version of SoS, boon share wouldn’t make people want to take it. Who is going to blow their invulnerability for 2-3s of boons? No one!
Guard = Utterly useless now that WHaO can do the same job of maintaining swiftness + regen. Who let’s their pet sit in stealth with protection? I mean, the whole point of stealth is to avoid getting hit, so giving it protection is counter-intuitive. Aggressively guarding an area, means that the pet will just start attacking anyone who goes in its range. No one is scared of just the pet. It would die regardless to aa spam without the actual player there to help it. Useful in anything but a regen shout gimmick spec (that was nerfed when Anet fixed Natural Healing after 3 years!!)? Nope!
Sic Em = slot vs thieves and mesmers, gimmick again? Yup. Who would take it vs every other class, 80% of which, can’t stealth anyways? No one!
Search and Rescue = lol. Allies Aid. Who runs rez rangers? No one!
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Wolfey, please ask Gaile to speak to me.
I am a guild leader of the largest ranger guild in the game, and I’ve played the class since release. If you really want to help rangers out, let me help the class.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Guys, please keep things constructive and classy.
You have ANETs full undivided attention, really… you do at the moment. I’ve talked to Gaile for a while last night and I can assure you she is not giving you lip service to make you feel better and forget about this.
I volunteered to help out this week and early next week to do reports for Ranger & Druid as well. If they would like, I will be more than glad to include Ranger & Druid into my weekly reports alongside PvP.
TDLR:
Don’t make kitten out of your selves, you have anets full attention, don’t waste it or use it to take a quick puck shot at someone.Look i truly do appreciate you coming here and advocating restraint, for me if this was 3 years ago i would be restrained. It’s is 3 years later, i have been restrained enough, i have been patient enough, i have dealt with all the neglect and outright undeserved mistreatment, i do not claim to speak for others but i bet deep down alot of those of us who main Rangers are FED UP.
Do you think Warriors would be happy if there New Elite Spec line was to be a healer ?
If Roy up and decided Warriors might stacking needed to be nerfed just like he decided WHaO was to be changed so drastically, that the Warrior community would be happy and pleased ?
It is years and years of this type of treatment, and it falls squarely on the shoulders of the developers.
While i will restrain from outright vitriolic statements, i am no longer going to be passive and let this continue without making it understood.
Please don’t tell me to relax it’s just i game, i know that, but it is the game i decide to place hours of my time into, hundreds of dollars into. I can choose to do this with another game, i don’t i choose this game, and i chose the Ranger as my favorite 3 years ago, and not once on that day did i think how great it would be to become a healer. . . Noe is it exciting to be barred from joining upper tier content because my class is so unreasonably useless compared to others.
/signed This is exactly how I feel. 3 years of neglect is enough.
Thirded
Fourth, /Signed
Enough is Enough Anet =(
I’m the fifth.
You, Anet, asked Genyen to provide a list of changes and feedback for rangers prior to the major trait changes. You promised that our suggestions would be taken into account, discussed, and changes would be made. We sat down together with people who have mained ranger for 3 years since release and beta, and know the class like the back of their hand. Eurantien, Talgo, Genyen, Myself, Saethe, and others talked and debated for hours and came up with a comprehensive list of what should be changed, and why we decided to change them.
You took one of the changes we deciding upon. A minor one, changing Enlargement from proccing at 25% health, to 50% health. That’s it. Hours of discussion with some of the best rangers in the game, only to have our opinions, thoughts, hopes and dreams, thrown aside like it was nothing.
Please. Its really upsetting, seeing what Anet has been doing to rangers for 3 years.

I came back to GW2 after a long break.
Buff made me happy.
You guys nerf it a day later.

You have an interesting mechanic.
That was very risk-reward.
and it worked, and it was fun.
it gave us more viability, survivability, and damage.
but it still required being built around to function well, and maximize its potential.
then
anet nerfs it.
and no one uses it anymore…
__________________________________________________________________
I still don’t understand why you guys are pushing MDG so much.
I think I’ve only seen 1 ranger use it.
and I kittening destroyed him so fast that his kitten didn’t even get a chance to kick in…

Please, Gaile. Help us.

Hey all.
I just returned from San Francisco and am going to crash hard from the busy weekend at Twitch Con very soon, but first I wanted to clarify something:
During the skill balance stream on Friday we weren’t able to go into depth or even talk about the reasons and expected results for changes we did reach due to time constraints[sub]1[/sub]. Because the June 23rd patch was mentioned during the stream many people seem to expect a patch of that size and magnitude.
This coming patch is NOT that big.
Tuesday’s patch will have those changes we discussed in the livestream, some bugfixes, and more, but it is a step in the right direction. It is not the end-all.
There shall be more.

1. (Although maybe Ice Bow 4 changes didn’t really need explanation)
Hey Irenio, I know this is the Ranger forums, but please remind the devs to send some love to thieves (by taking a look at enhancing SA and Acro traitlines and some other fixes suggested on the thief forums!). Thanks!
Go away pls.

Druid Traits
Druidic Clarity
This skill affects your pet as well, and grant 3s of resistance along with the condition removal upon transform.
Verdant Etching
This skill also turn all glyphs into stun-breakers.
Lingering Light (Cosmic Wisp)
The wisp also orbits your pet and grant 2s of protection along with the heal when it passes through an ally.
Ancient Seeds
This trait affects knocked back foes as well.
Staff
Solar Beam
This attack also pierces 5 targets and applies .5s of slow on each pulse.
Astral Wisp
The wisp also cleanses 1 condition each time it passes through an ally.
Ancestral Grace
This skill also damages enemies for the same base amount as the healing portion of the ability. The radius also increases to 650.
Vine Surge
The vines no longer immobilize. Instead this skill creates an impassable wall that lasts 3s and stuns enemies for 1s if it hits.
Sublime Conversion
This skill also becomes a light field.
Glyphs
All cooldowns must be drastically reduced for the effects they offer. At the moment, the glyphs do not compare with Mesmer mantras.

Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
This arrogant ”PvP is superior” attitude is getting old. I’ve found great fighters in WvW and pvp, I’ve also found terrible players in both. Neither mode makes you a superior fighter.
It takes longer to get very good at fighting while roaming in WvW than it does in PvP. A lot of the good WvWers you’ve probably seen, most likely PvP a lot. However, while that is not always the case, it applies to the majority of them.
Also, yeah this gameplay is average. Nothing too special in terms of skill but decent nonetheless.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Dagger is useless in a power build. 4 can’t be used as a mobility skill any longer, and it pretty much never hits a moving target… or any target for that matter. 5 doesn’t do any damage anymore now that bleeds were nerfed…
Axe took a heavy hit as well. 4 needs to be used from a short range. You can no longer pull someone back from far away. 5 doesn’t reflect anything from allies now that the radius is absolutely abysmal.
Fix this please Anet.
+1

No one take the trait for a year or so after HoT comes out. Anet will buff it.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Imo, GW1 had a nice balance between PvE and PvP. I prefer to play PvP over PvE in most games, but GW1 had enough rare and specific boss items that I was actually interested in playing that game mode. It was fun to unlock skills and make the hero builds and that’s what kept me playing PvE in GW1.
In GW2 however, I despise PvE. I find it repetitive and boring and you just farm it to gain enough tokens to buy terrible looking dungeon armor skins and save up enough over extremely long periods of time to buy extremely expensive skins to look the same as the next player over.
Nowadays, you see people with MULTIPLE legendaries everywhere. Its not special or unique, not to mention with the exact same armor/weapons to choose from, most of these people look very similar anyways. It’s just dull and boring and tedious.
GW1 had less grind than GW2 and that’s what ANet was trying to get rid of when they were making this game. Instead of removing it, they just made the process even longer and more drawn out.
Badges of Honor need to be able to be sold to a merchant. You get none for killing uplevels and 2 for every 80. There needs to be a vendor in WvW that you can sell your badges to for 20s/badge. So, for example, killing 5 80s would net you 2 gold.

I will start streaming in the summer if I have time. Some people have been asking so I thought I’d just put it out there.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
I fell asleep during the first 5 minutes of the video and didn’t bother watching past that. Vaanss kited you the entire fight at 20% health. There was hardly any skill involved imo. Hammer skills are too easy NOT to dodge and most of it was just 3 and 5 on the greatsword. Tbh, if Vaannss had another dodge at the end of the first fight, it would have dragged out a lot longer. It looks like you just got lucky for that one.
I’ve seen videos by Vaannss before and this just wasn’t entertaining for me to watch.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Hey hey, pretty solid gameplay. I haven’t seen anyone really use Healing Spring that well in a while.
My IGN is S H A D O W F A L L. I remember fighting you, haha. I was running power ranger at the time and had to disengage as soon as you opened with wh4. It applied around 9 or so bleeds right away. :P

@Darksteel
First off. Learn some grammar. All of your posts are essentially single run on sentences with you just typing “…” every time you write the next thought that pops into your head. It makes your posts pretty difficult to read and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks so.
Second. Your logic is flawed. And, to put it in your own words, you can’t convince someone that something is a square, if its clearly a triangle.
Third. If you are really crying about everyday longbow rangers, you are going to hate fighting me. Let’s add you to my friends list and see how fast you start complaining in chat.

Rangers can’t trait more than 2 in Wilderness Survival…?
Just ban Bark Skin instead and let us trait a full 6.
Where do you expect us to get condi clear from if we don’t use SotF?
We can’t trait for reduced greatsword/sword/offhand cooldowns and increased radius? Our offhands are pretty bad without traiting for them man…
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
I originally had 3 and 5 switched. With 3% modifier instead of 5% but others suggested I change it.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
ANet can make a PvE version of the trait at 1% then. 2% in WvW and sPvP
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Rapid Fire = 10 Vulnerability if every hit lands.
1% per stack = 10% crit chance and imo, that’s not worth taking over Read the Wind. That’s why I left it at 2%.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
LOL ok you want to make Rapid Fire aoe and turn it into a low cooldown, stronger version of Barrage. Great idea, it will definitely NOT start up even more QQ about how one glass ranger just downed 5 people trying to rez someone.
__________________________________________________________________
And for the rest of us rangers, when I find someone QQing about rangers on the forums, I add them in game, spec for the build they complained about, find them in a match, and proceed to kill them as much as possible LOL
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Let’s be honest… Opening Strike is a terrible investment for rangers. Even with Remorseless, its still pretty bad and only affects the first attack when you engage without this trait.
So, I’m proposing a non-overpowered minor trait tweaks for the Marksmanship line and a change to Remorseless.
1 Point Minor: You and your pet apply 1 stack of Vulnerability (5s) on critical hits. 1 second cooldown
3 Point Minor:You and your pet deal 3% more damage to targets with Vulnerability.
5 Point Minor: Vulnerability lasts 20% longer.
Remorseless: Gain 2% Critical Chance for every stack of Vulnerability on your target.
Thoughts?

How much money do you make from this per hour?
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
If druid is spirit based or transformation based, I’m not going to play it. I’m not interested in more AI or wonky transformations. I’m looking for support/aoe damage in our specialization.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
If it was on NA, I’d do it just to get my WvW stacks….
It’s frustrating as a roamer trying to rank up since I don’t join the karma trains and zergs.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
You have my vote mate. =]
Get rid of our Beastmastery traitline and give it to the pets. Replace it with something useful.

What is a duck snort kill?
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
I have to agree with oEnvy on this one….
I know you said you were lagging when recording, but there were several basic gameplay issues as well.
It looked like you were keyboard turning for some parts, many big attacks you should’ve dodged, and yes. I do believe SA carried you in many of the fights.
Personally, I find it extremely hard to respect SA thieves. Though you can tell when you come across one who really knows what they’re doing, this wasn’t one of the better ones.
Dodging is the biggest part that I would recommend you work on. You ate nearly every eviscerate from that warrior in the first part, and lucky last refuges and other aspects based off of luck were the reason you won some of those fights.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Is this what you are using? I tried to match it the best I could, including healing ticks and health.
I checked boon durations, sigil procs, cooldowns…
I saw a fire/blood on longbow I believe. 325 healing came from the blood sigil.
Torment + Hobbling/Malice on shortbow for 5 second cripples
I couldn’t match your health exactly though. It was 915 healing ticks with TU and 21233 health.
OP changed the build though a few times during the video. I saw Oakheart Salve sometimes, and Shared Anguish other times. I also noticed that OP had Opening Strike on some fights, but not others.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
(edited by shadowpass.4236)
OP don’t post your build yet. Give me a little bit of time to figure it out haha
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Timing is key.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
Some people really don’t think these ideas through.
No.
Just stop. lol
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
thieves depend too much on dodges and stealth (which is in my opinion less effective than having invulnerabilty because you still take full damage from anything and
if you have any damaging conditions ppl can still see you because of floating damage numbers)
LOL I can’t even.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
I ignore Ithilwen any time he/she posts. All he does is complain about how rangers are OP and never listens to anyone. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… Ithilwen has had 10+ page threads with everyone arguing AGAINST him and he still refused to listen to the facts and actual data that people give him.
Anyways, Shylock is right. Dragon rank is a joke now and being “on the leaderboard” gives no indication of skill. You could’ve gotten lucky and gotten a high rank, or you are just throwing it into your posts to make you sound more credible when you could actually just be rank 999.
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
I made small modifications to the build – i think this is the better setup -
That is pretty much the exact build I use, except I take double drakes and Spotter instead of SotF.

Well all this ranger setups are not wrong, but aren’t efficient either.
Dude just go with 6 2 6 0 0 build and make sure you get yourself
~ reflex
~ signet of stone…
~ 3rd utility is optional HUNT/RENEWAL/MUD
~ ELITE RAO ( dont bother taking Entangle, every person that is not kittened will simply dodge or stealth to avoid it)..Let me explain why mud terrain is ok, but not so awesome as every one advertise it as viable, every skill that ranger has is basically CASTING from 3/4 and up to 2 seconds. It’s so easy to break rangers combination. so i always avoid mud terrain, i rather have 25% speed and 150% extra damage on your pet, it’s is just insane, who ever will get close to you, will either get feared or stomped hard. 3rd utility is always nice to have rune as Hunt Or Renewal.
If you decide to take Renewal for condi removal, you can change wilderness XI rune for XII to get 50% reduced damage when under 25% HP.And almost always use Troll Unguent. when you drop below 80-85%. I almost don’t use heal as one, because i benefit more from TU then Heal as One, because when you take 50% HP damage to heal up again it’s mostly to late already.
Key of this build is s/d, you’ll be very very squishy with this build, but on the other hand u’ll be extremely pain in the kitten because you can dodge and kite every incoming damage if you can time it correctly.
Enjoy and feel free to kick some butts
