I don’t think they will fix “culling” and if they do it will probably turn the game into “lagfest 2013” unless they upgrade their servers, which I see no mention of and everything seems to indicate they are purely working on code.

Thieves can’t cap points in WvW whilst in stealth either.

The ability of a class to cap points has near zero importance in WvW compared to sPvP since there’s almost always going to be someone else with you to do that job when you’re capping a point. The only reason it was removed from WvW was that perma-stealth thieves could perma-contest supply camps because you couldn’t kittening kill them. You still can’t kill them but at least you can capture the camp.

I solo cap points all the time with every class I play.

And how important was the fact you can’t cap in stealth? Not at all.

Tell me how many times you’ve defended a point solo for several minutes without killing your opponents because that’s the reason why stealth capping was nerfed.

Im not really sure what your saying, but in answer to the question, maybe 5-10 times a day.

Yea sorry I mean SEA… I have another accoun and Im thinking whether to move it to JQ or BG depending on which server has more filipino guilds/players that I can join. So far I know BG has Urge while JQ has Exitializ. I’m only considering strictly wvw with Filipino’s. I’m not going to spy or whatever for SOS.

Both have coverage during Oceanic. BG has more players than JQ at this timezone. But on any given night JQ can have more on. Just depends on turnout. Last night as a JQ player I had outmanned buff for about 3-4 hours, but its not always like that. It varies alot.

Everyone in Tier 1 has skill to be in Tier 1? MMM.. OK I’ll be nice. There are some pretty terrible players I have seen in all 3 servers currently in Tier 1. People aren’t in Tier1 because of skill. It helps a little, but at the end of the day why servers hit Tier 1 is particularly because of numbers.

Same would be said of those on Tier 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 the point is moot.

So why make the point then?

It’s sad. People are complaining that “lifetime” achievements take too long. Perhaps this is just the usual sense of Entitlement that causes this. Just like the complaints that Legendary weapons take too long to get.

In GW1, Dragon Rank 15 was only achieved by a handful of players. Epic PvPers like Starcraft, Red, Bloupy, etc. Just because the max rank is there, doesn’t mean everyone will be able to earn it.

But what about comparatively with PvE achievements. Most of those are terribly easy to get in a short period of time. Why is it that the WvW achievements are exclusively things that you have to give up real life for?

I think its BS that GW2 has no COD so to force players to either be at the hands of con artists or be at the hands on Anet, neither of which is more trust worthy.

Why would they design a huge money sink for the game and then give you an easy way around it?

Money sinks are good for the game, as they are good for all games.

The choice in sink was poorly designed. Thats why.

BG doesn’t jump ship, ever. Certain guilds may but as a whole we have been more stable than any other server in the game. We’ve dropped from T1 twice with no bandwagoners leaving and here we are back in T1 for a third time kicking your kitten

You can troll all you like, it doesn’t matter to us, we just keep fighting.

P.S. BG is made up mostly of guilds that have been here since day 1, and ex-Ascension Alliance (NOC, Res, CQ, LotD, FoE), most ex-Titan guilds don’t even play GW2 any more or have disbanded. Not that we even think about the old alliances any more, BG is one no matter previous affiliations.

Ill have to take your word for it. All I ever see is ex-SOS guilds.

It’s called neuro-linguistic programming. Plenty of native BG guilds are running around, but your expectation and focus on the SoS transfers cause your brain to just see the tags you want to see.

Maybe its just culling.

The old skill vs gear discussion is pretty much redundant for the majority of players, since the majority of players have levelled there mains and at least most of their alts to 80 and have 80 exotic gear and have had so for some months now.

A more interesting discussion for me would revolve around why we have to farm PvE to get gear that we want to experiment with builds for.

I just want to bump this up and ask, has anyone been even CLOSE to completing any one of the achievements under WvW. I mean i’ve been playing since release and I’ve got 1k+ wvw kills playing casually. I imagine more hardcore players are probably at least 20x my amount… so lets say 20,000 kills/250,000 is still another 6 years before anyone gets the killing achievement? Likewise with everything else. Anet really wanted to make these achievements as close to impossible as possible eh.

Red Guard guild leader has around 170k kills.

Must be a higher tier thing. I’ve never heard of anyone with more than 25k in tier 7.

Hes the guild leader of the best killing machine known in this game. That many kills is far from the norm even in the top tiers.

I don’t know him.

Are Badges of Honour only received for kills?

I ask because I’d like to do a build focused on aoe auras and healing to sustain the zerg. However I don’t think I’m going to bother if it will substantially harm my ability to get badges…

It doesn’t make much difference. I play AoE classes like Necros and they are comparable in badges to what you get as a single direct damage char like a thief.

Until the culling patch this topic should just have a giant pin in it. Once culling is addressed, there are probably some lingering thief issues that need to be dealt with but IMO thieves probably won’t even make the top five list of real issues that significantly effect most players in WvW. I seriously doubt this issue ranks above nuisance to most WvW players. I run across an annoying thief or a really dangerous one occasionally but there are dozens of other items I would like fixed/addressed before this.

I don’t think the issue is quite as lighthearted. Even for someone who can accurately predict the location of stealthers, balanced thief builds still require specific counters—counter builds that are bad for zerg fights or sieges. In lower tier servers we cannot afford to send people after 1 or 2 thieves that held off 5-10 of our defenders.

If you look at thief videos where the thieves fight in the middle of at least 4 hostiles, none of them run pure glass cannon. They all have at least some vit from gears, and most have 30 in shadow arts (That’s Toughness and Healing). Thieves have a lot of advantage working for them as is as they can burst effectively with just 30 points into offensive attribute. Every other class require 40+. Perma-stealth as it is is already the most effective bunkering mechanic in the game, add freedom to burst with no cooldown and no visible tells and the issue is quite apparent.

Culling is part of the problem. However, I’m not convinced that it is the only problem. Culling only really help low-skill glass cannon thieves, but they aren’t even exploring the full potential of thieves to begin with. Glass cannon thieves will die to AoEs, visible or not. Balanced thieves can take a hit or two if they’re shown for 3 seconds (assuming the most ideal fix for culling happens, which we all know is impossible) then heal up in stealth to burst again. If you don’t stun lock them over and over, you just won’t kill a well-played stealther.

Until Anet can trivialize zerg fights or thieves finally achieve 60% population of WvW, single target stun lock builds will never be popular in WvW, and the rest of us can beg till our tongues fall off and no new players will join the mist fight just on this alone.

And to those who argue about thieves not being top tier in sPvP. Do realize that stealth has in fact taken a nerf to it’s effectiveness by 100% as far as sPvP objectives are concerned. You cannot cap a point in stealth. It was the biggest nerf in GW2 history. Do realize that if WvW is comparable to sPvP on this, they’ll have to implement a comparable solution to WvW as well, and I think not that many of us actually want to see stealth completely removed from WvW, as it’s already been trivialized both in sPvP and now PvE too (as if the risen priests can complain about imba. *rolleyes).

If you truly enjoy the stealth gameplay and want it to stay, you better start thinking creatively about solutions that the majority of the players can agree with. The “nyar-nyar-L2P” comments gets you nowhere other than the biggest nerf hammer that’s already swung twice.

The expansion will include the Living Story part 2: Fix 150 signs, some balance changes that won’t be included in the patch notes and a new mission that can’t be done by a chosen minority.

Yeah it started entering the TP right after the last update where loot drops were increased. I recall them being around 50G initially. People started doing the Shadow behemoth alot more and getting better drops.

I think your missing some of these Ross. If players spent the next few years focussing on only getting one of these achievements, they still wouldn’t get them. And by “focus on” I mean for real. Quit your job, move your fridge and toilet to your computer, forget about bathing and order your groceries online inbetween achievements and “focus on them”.

Combining NA & Euro Servers for WVW

There won’t be queues all the time. The reason there are queues is because too many players play the SAME time. The population will be spread around to all the servers making it so you many servers might have 10min queues, but the top servers will no longer have 4 hour queues.

The current top server currently don’t have 4 hour queues. Atm they have no queue or maybe 1-2minutes on a BL or somewhere. The only exception being right on reset where it various alot from week to week from around 30m-1hour for the most populated map and this drops off after the first few hours.

Oceanic 60 players your kidding we took 2 of your maps last night with 20ish people. It may have seemed like 60 but it was not.

There were over 50 BG in EB.

EBG had a standing force of maybe 20 ND and a roaming army of 30 composed of MERC plus other guilds that would switch around BLs depending on the need. I was with the MERC force and I think the effective rotation allowed us to hold more objectives than had we sat in one BG.

We frequently clashed with SoR and JQ forces equal to our total number, most notably in a 15 or 20 minute melee in Stonemist Lord’s room. JQ though would have large armies in every BL we would field.

I don’t believe BG has any significant numbers advantage.

From weekend and Oceanic coverage, just basing it off my experience this week, Id say they have a considerable numbers advantage. Not that I really care though.

Come play during Oceanic coverage. Its basically 60 player BG zergs, 30 player JQ zergs and a bunch of SOR doors. Skill lag seems to be fine.

And let me guess, “real PvP” would be camping people on CoD or whatever is the latest clone around.

Different PvP mechanics that put in competition different human abilities, neither is more or less real.

COD is horrid. At least its clones are. COD2 was pretty solid. COD4 with promod with alright for a while. But now, COD doesn’t really come to mind when I think of real PvP.

AoE was reduced to hit a maximum of 5 targets. TBH, I really think AoE is a good thing that helped reduce the zerg mentaility that is in WvW and nerfing it was a bad thing.

My major issue with AoE though, was that it was instant-cast. I think this was because Anet wanted to cater to the casual gamer who doesn’t really take PvP all that seriously.

Too late. They already nerfed Cursed Shore with the addition of Champs. Less loot now from events.

Doesn’t matter. You still earn more Lodestones per hour by farming those events.

My best advice to anyone who wants to farm a lodestone directly is to run the dungeon that drops it. Then, promote your cores. Or run fractals till your eyes bleed. That being said, at the moment, I only have 30-40 molten cores from all the times I’ve run CoF…. and running anything else nearly as often as you can run CoF is also eye bleed inducing.

Except there is no dungeon that drops Corrupted. Despite containing Icebrood/Svanir, HotW gives Glacial… which is stupid.

This will not be fixed and should not be fixed. By keeping the drop rate of these items exactly where they are, it maintains the value of an item that a significant portion of the player base will never hope to acquire enough of to use for anything.

Let Charged Lodestones be 3g+ forever…. random players will get a moment of insane joy when they find one, and promptly sell it to those of us who intend to do something with these precious jewels.

Woah… selfish kitten much? Jeesh.

Ive had Corrupted lodestones drop from FoTM’s Jade Maw and Dredge. Ive had Glacial drop from Dredge also. I have had charged drop from Jade Maw also. They seem to drop Charged most of the time, but it appears they also drop the above.

I think you can draw a few conclusions from what we’re seeing on the scoreboard. To begin with, JQ has no major EU guild coverage. Hence, it’s reasonably safe to presume that BG will continue to post 300-400 ppt during the weekdays and remain dominant during that time.

I am actually a bit curious about JQ’s euro coverage. Last time BG was in T1, you guys gave us a really hard time during EU time and often got 400+ PPT in late EU time. Nothing has really changed to BG’s EU coverage and yet the result on Monday is quite different. Do you guys know why?

My guess is they just had a quiet one. People need to take a break some times.

Being against farming, GW2 is a farm fest. Try being a WvW player. You pretty much have to fund yourself by farming PvE. And if you want to experiment with your build you can expect hundreds of more hours farming easy bad PvE content over and over again. I really don’t know why WvW didn’t get the same treatment as sPvP. PvE in this game is very limited. It had its novelty for a while. Now I just have to grind it to fund my WvW, which is complete BS that I have to do this to be able to afford to play WvW.
