Not trolling but maybe I didn’t think things through clearly. I get your point. But I also think it would be a shame if newbies come to the pvp and just get demoralised by being trashed 500-0 or by practicing and then being told that sorry they didnt get a place because they weren’t “known”.

In short, this tournament SHOULD cater to the casuals and newbies imo. It is what the game needs

I agree with this. And who is to say someone is known or not? I doubt he knows Karmy and his SW guildies, or June guild, or UC, or many, many others who definitely have a decent chance of beating everyone, including “known” teams.

Also, I believe that Anet guys would organise this much, much better. At least they are not teenagers and have way more experience with this. I hope they will get inspired and host the next one, properly.

But I still have hope that this one will work out. Let’s see if it will be what it was advertised to be or it will be some type of yet another boring invitational with same teams as always.

The best 2/3 players I have ever play with or against are all people who rarely PvP but spend most of their time in WvW or PvE. And I have played with or against everyone of any renown in PvP. The fact is PvE and WvW have a way bigger player base so it is no surprise that the absolute best/most talented guys come from these game modes. The problem is that the barrier to entry for them is huge and they tend to love rewards. If this tournament could bring these people, and others who aren’t as talented, into spvp (finally) then we could really see esports get going.

Secondly the reason Pvers dont play PvP is because they are inclined to continue clicking their skills. As far as WvW, there is little to no skill required in zergs and roamers are still not near the lvl of pvpers. WvWers rely on broken stats and gear, and are quite inferior to PvP. Even guilds like Apex, which was orignally PvP only has transitioned to WvW because they were not top tier pvpers. However in WvW they are very good.. You WvWers and PvErs will soon learn your place in the skill heirachy.

You are both right and wrong here.

The right part:
The 1v1 skill level is higher in upper level PvP than in the top WvW roaming groups. I specific upper level here, because of course there are bad people in PvP and WvW.

The wrong part:
Zerging takes no skill. Not really accurate. If it was, than whoever has the most people would win every fight. Smaller groups can beat larger groups. It’s funny how little PvP people know about WvW and how little WvW people know about PvP (see below).

The part you’d probably agree with but didn’t say:
If the best 5 1v1 duelers in the game joined the same team, it doesn’t mean they would win. What a WvW person doesn’t understand is that it is not only about individual skill in a PvP match. It is about working well with the team. It is about knowing how to rotate. It is about knowing when to attack an NPC or to fight for a point. It is about understanding timing of events. This is all important strategy that some random from PvE or WvW won’t understand even if they happen to be a fantastic dueler.

100 WvW guards press 1 all. Everyone in front of them will die. The end. Numbers matter. The end. You can win a 2v3 just like a 20 v30 but in the end, numbers win the fight before skill

The truth is that you could take the top 4 PvP teams from a PvP tournament and they would get wrecked in a 20v20 GvG against a top WvW guild.

Likewise, you could take the top 5 players from that same WvW guild and they would get wrecked by a PvP team in conquest mode.

Different game types = different strategies. Not sure why people argue anything different.

There is one main reason why GW2 is not an esport. It is entirely because of conquest mode.

In short, conquest mode is fun to play but it is extremely boring to watch. That’s why you see so few viewers on tournament streams.

The Balthazar changes are great but it still can’t compete with the cheese that is confusion spam.

As I’ve suggested before, make this really easy…

64 teams in the tournament
8 teams are selected by Blu and are the seeded teams.
56 teams are randomly selected and are randomly placed into bracket positions.

If you cannot be bothered to help those in need, you should not complain about them either. You could go hold home point while taking your time to explain the simple stuff. Bad’s will be bad’s until someone can teach them. No teacher – more bad’s.

The best way for people to learn is by playing. There isn’t time within a particular match to teach them everything. There are really two options:

1. Every decent player can pretty much carry a team up to a certain level in the leaderboard. Once they hit that point, they will need to learn more about teamwork. That will come over multiple games, and paying attention to what worked for them and what didn’t. Sure, they will lose at first, but eventually they will do better and start moving up the leaderboard.
2. Join a PvP guild that is more focused on learning. I see people recruiting quite frequently.

Not sure how many have signed up for EU vs NA. Let’s assume there is an equal split and you end up with 80 teams in each region. I’d suggest something like the following.

64 teams make the bracket
56 teams are random selected. 8 are by your choice. The 8 would become the top seeds in each of the 4 brackets (think march madness).

The main point here is that you want to communicate with people upfront exactly how many spots will be random vs your choice.

There are two hard counters to a decap…

1. Stability based hambow – You won’t get them off the point, and they hit hard.
2. GC ele – That burst (in a team fight, not 1v1)
3. Condi spam necro. Remember what AR does…. it doesn’t allow you to get new conditions. It does nothing against existing conditions. A smart necro will condi bomb the engi before AR kicks in.

And I think anet’s treatment of minion master is displaying a lack of connection to the meta. There is nobody who is good at the game who runs MM at high level solo queue or in team queue. This is because the build is garbage. It doesn’t do much damage. It dies 1 on 1 to alot of builds. In team fights it is utterly useless. To nerf it seems odd. I dont mind it because it is lame, but if they really think MM is overpowered then it is a worry. It is impossible to tell people they are wrong in all walks of life. Game development is obviously no different.

Im with u on this so much. I was kinda surprised mm is getting nerfed…. It’s such an unreliable build and easily blown up if you know how. Why nerf it?

To be honest though, diamond skin and zerk stance have not been huge issues for me so far but i agree that 100% immunities is bad design.

The reason why it got nerfed is that it relies too much on passive abilities (same as spirit ranger). I think they mentioned during a past ready up that they want to continue to reduce passive skill items and strengthen the active skill items.

The map would be fine for team queue if they made 2 major changes to it.

1. Gave the orb carrier a new set of skills. The orb carrier should be equal regardless of profession or spec. People shouldn’t be able to use any of their regular weapon/utility skills.
2. Have the orb only appear twice a game but double the points.

1. A person who hasn’t played in a month can jump 40% after one game, win or lose. Decay doesn’t work well.
2. People with losing records are in the top 100. What? I don’t care who you’ve beaten. If you lose more than win, you shouldn’t even be in the top 500.

The poor leaderboards also then lead to poor MMR for the different matches. It is just a bad situation.

So, my question. Is a new leaderboard part of this feature patch? I might have just missed it.

1. there is no mmr decay, it is only for leaderboard position
2. People with poor records probably played well after the leaderboard reset 4-6 months ago.

The one sided matches are caused by expanding the search as time goes on, the teams are even mmr wise but because of low population the best players can still be paired with the noobs and the players with the highest mmr might not be the best because it is really hard to gain mmr when you are only playing against noobs. Also the variation comes into effect when you are grabbing players from the very bottom of the barrel, some of them might just be on a new account or have not played many games of solo queue, so the people at the very bottom could be amazing or terrible.

PS: everything you ever post is wrong please just stop :/

I’ve felt for a long time that team fights in sPvP have been far too volatile. Things happen too quickly and momentum shifts are extremely common.

Momentum shifts are the part of PvP that make it fun. Without those shifts one team would just dominate the whole way. Not sure why you’d want that.

I’ve been noticing a lot of games recently where a 5 person premade is going against 5 random pugs. That is not fun for either side.

This doesn’t make any sense… If out of 10 fights I get pitted against teams like Good Fights and I lose 60% of the time… the fact that I CAN beat them 4 times out of 10 means that my team is kitten good, despite our 60% losing streak.

Your post doesn’t make sense actually. If you were playing against only 1 guild, and only 10 people were on the leaderboard, then sure, your team would be ranked 6-10.

The reality though is that you won’t just be facing GF. You’ll be beating other people along the way. So, if you are that good, even though you lose to GF 60% of the time, you’ll make up for it against other teams who you beat. Your overall winning % would be above .500 I am sure

Isn’t the reason for poor win/loss records due to MMR?

It is circular. Which comes first. My point is that the leaderboards lead to bad matchups currently. Again, no one who loses more than 50% of the time should be in the top 100 or even top 500.

Assign one of the tier 6 crafting materials to each individual stat, then let us craft items with anywhere from 3 to all (celestial) stats by using 2 tier 6 materials per stat option.

this means we could craft any of the 3-stat combos as they are presently, or we could craft items with 4 stats or 5 or 6 stats with the points all evenly distributed.

Examples:

  • Berserker items have power, precision, ferocity and would require 2 vials of blood, 2 fangs, and 2 other materials to craft.
  • A stat combo of power, precision, ferocity, and toughness would also require 2 mats per stat.
  • Same with a combo of precision, condition damage, healing power, condition duration, and toughness.

TL;DR: give us complete freedom in choosing our stat combinations and how many different stats we have.

We already in the condi meta.

The vast majority of builds, both roaming and zerging, rely on direct-damage above all. If anything it is and always has been a direct-damage meta.

You are completely wrong. It is all about bunkers who try to mitigate damage and clear condis fast. I’m speaking about zerging here because that is what the majority of people play.

Hambow is easy, but the easiest is engi for sure. Just run x/x/30/30/x. You can stand on a point spamming bombs and grenades and do fine.

I actually like the 2v1 thing. TC got 2v1 hard last night while I was on and I enjoyed it. Got far more bags than I would have got from capping towers. It keeps things interesting because your constantly fighting. I know some don’t like it, but in a 3-way battle it’s to be expected.

I’m surprised though as why any servers would 2v1 anyone but the leader. Shouldn’t TC and JQ being teaming up to topple BG down to more respectable points that those servers can reach? IMO, it makes more sense to say, team up to the point the top server is wiped off every map then spawn camped until the scores are more leveled out.

I like the 2v1 system though, though i’d much prefer if Anet upgraded their systems enough that we can add a 4th server to the mix.

Normally, yes, but in a league scenario, it is about maximizing points. Think about it this way. BG is too far in front this week. The real fight is for second place. If TC takes a camp from BG, then TC gains 5 points over JQ. If TC takes a camp from JQ, they gain 10 points over JQ. JQ targets are more valuable right now.

You’ll likely see strategies switch later in the season as servers make decisions based on overall standings.

There are a lot of times where we allow an enemy server to take another enemy’s keep. Why? It is more valuable to get a fully fortified keep reset than to win that particular fight.

That is completely different from what I am talking about, that is just letting the other side do the work, then taking it from them.

I’m taking about the two other servers not attacking each other, and only focusing on one side in the fights. I was online for hours last night, and very rarely saw Camps/Towers switch from BG to JQ or vice verse. They only went from TC to either BG or JQ. Another example from last night was when BG and JQ had two zerges hit North camp. BG attacked until they were nearly wiped, then they pulled out and JQ attacked, when JQ was nearly wiped they pulled out and BG attacked..

Thats the kind of thing that requires communication from outside the game.. IMHO…

It sounds like you were on TCBL. The home BL tends to get double teamed. That is to be expected.

As I’ve said though, everyone double teams at times. There isn’t really anything wrong with it. Frustrating? Sure.

I was thinking about how WvW could benefit from the megaserver system. As I have said earlier, combining servers is a bad idea. I enjoy fighting with the same people every day. So, how can we take advantage of the new megaserver system? easy.

Integrate OS into the megaserver concept.

The why:
Imagine the GvG scene when you can literally fight any other guild within your region (NA or EU). Right now, you have to get into the same matchup. With this new system in place, you can literally fight anyone, including other guilds on your same server. It would be fun.

The majority of servers actually coordinate and have groups of guilds that work together and have strove hard to work together and to get where they are.

To suddenly make that mean nothing would be a huge turn off to all of those players.

Has nothing to do with coverage and everything to do with how certain people prefer to play this game.

This a million times. The community built up over working together will be completely ruined by any removal of the server system. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people with server pride

I know we don’t really speak well of the CDIs at times, but they did make a post addressing how they understand the World Identity is too important based on player feedback, so I don’t know that they would change something in that direction. Of course all we can do for now is speculate.

To quell speculation early, that is not what we are doing. The announcement will have more info, but we are absolutely not getting rid of worlds and putting everyone into an EotM type system.

This is very sad news and a bad design decision. The only 2 options I see left on the table are grouping servers together on one side and of course just merging servers. The first option will not in anyway fix the coverage problem as SEA/EU coverage will still be on 1-2 servers. The second option effectively destroys the server communities of all but 3 worlds and once again does not fix the coverage issue. Maybe if you bring EU servers into the fold, but I believe long ago that was stated as not possible.

Unless of course you don’t think there is a problem with current population/coverage issues…that of course means we have an even bigger issue. Then again you guys thought another WvW tournament was a good idea, it’s not even a tournament since higher wvw population servers win, almost all current matchups are blowouts that are in no way fun. That of of course brings us back to the question then of, what are you going to do about the population/coverage issues that basically ruin any competition in WvW?

You are completely wrong. This is a great decision. Just because you do not have any server pride, a lot of others do.

Where you are correct is that longer term population differences need to be taken into account. Personally, I’d prefer to see a change to the scoring system to address that.

I know we don’t really speak well of the CDIs at times, but they did make a post addressing how they understand the World Identity is too important based on player feedback, so I don’t know that they would change something in that direction. Of course all we can do for now is speculate.

To quell speculation early, that is not what we are doing. The announcement will have more info, but we are absolutely not getting rid of worlds and putting everyone into an EotM type system.

I have played guardian for a year. Now I just found that guardian is just a handicapped warrior. Guard has already low health and we need to sacrifice Pure of Voice for 3K HP.

This made me lol. No one is forcing you to switch. Keep pure of voice if you want it.

Red vs Blue vs Green is coming! This is a Brilliant way for Anet to consolidate servers with out “The Game is Dying!” mass panic!

Except that the ANET leader of WvW has already written a summary in the last CDI that said the EotM 3 way solution is not popular.

They’d look pretty silly if they implemented this now, and so I doubt it will happen. It would be a horrible move for WvW. People enjoy playing with others they know, whether that is in the same guild or not.

A better solution would be server consolidation.

I’ve posted this in other threads, but we really need ranks past 80. I understand that people will keep getting chests, but that isn’t a motivation.

In PvE, a level cap makes sense. At level 80, someone can still work towards better gear.

In PvP, you do not work towards better gear (nor should you). People like earning a higher rank. So what if someone is rank 200? Remember that ANET was originally going to remove rank. Since you are keeping it, why not let people progress as high as they want. This allows you to then start giving new rewards.

Should be an easy fix and I hope it is implemented.

I would like to see spirit weapons stay the same as today. I would like to see spirit rangers and minion necros nerfed. I am afraid that I will add turrets to the nerf list after the two new GM traits in that area.
