You must not play guardian. It has good F skills. Try putting some points in the virtues line and you’ll see what I mean. There is a reason the current meta is 30 points in virtues.

Virtues have counter play though. They are subject to the general rules of the game: boon steal/strips and blinds (for voj). This is probably why there are no complaints about virtues. They have counters.

Then why do people put 30 points in virtues.

The point of my comment wasn’t whether any of the F skills for any profession are TOO strong. My point is that they tend to be highly used. It is intended.

You guys don’t understand the ANET logic here. 8v8 was the most popular of their hot join matches, so it had to be removed. Likewise, everyone says they hated skyhammer. So ANET removed raid on the capricorn. You need to understand the ANET mentality here. Think about a situation, and then do the exact opposite of what should happen.

This is a good idea.

As for the tournament, there is no way to make everyone happy. PvP has been pretty much dead tournament wise. I think the number of teams caught everyone off guard.

Next time it would be better to make everyone have to qualify. Given that this event is taking place over one weekend, the 64 teams is the best option. Be happy they were willing to expand it from the original 16.

Downed States and PvD need to leave WvW.

I’m sure this has been covered before, but I have been unable to find the older threads with the forum search function.

Downed states in WvW -

This is something that needs to be removed altogether from WvW. It removes the ability of smaller groups to effectively engage and whittle down larger sized zergs in the field. It is impossible for a small team to beat a zerg through attrition and superior gameplay if the zerg can simply revive their players in seconds. Less options means less gameplay and that forces many players to adopt a common strategy (zerging). If a revive mechanic needs to stay in the game, it should at least (the very least) be limited to work outside of combat and take a substantial amount of time to do.

Player versus Door -

Doors should be immune to player damage and siege should be the ONLY answer. If a zerg is larger in numbers, it is extremely difficult to win when it comes to siege versus siege. Even if you do manage to defeat the enemy siege, the zerg can simply damage a door to the ground. Again, larger numbers and zerging is rewarded whereas superior gameplay and coordination is not rewarded. Siege weaponry becomes undervalued.

Conclusion -

WvW players effectiveness outside of a zerg is increased. Happiness abounds.

Disagree with both points.

1. Downstate adds strategy to both zergs and roaming groups. Do you go for the stomp or do you fight other people? More strategy is good.
2. PvD. What you do not realize is that most people do not enjoy siege v siege. You may be perfectly happy sitting in a tower all day using siege. The issue is that most people do not enjoy it. People want to fight.

As a main ranger, i find really frustrating that cloak and dagger works on pets… its like a free stealth mechanism on top of the already OP F1 they get when stealing from ranger.

Is it only me or it is a problem for everyone?

and I find it really annoying that spirit rangers and minions can attack me. I don’t have minions or spirits, so no one should.

The system is working as intended, with the weaker servers working together to take out the top server. BG’s getting better, harder fights and more challenges out of it, which I imagine translates as more fun for their core WvWer’s. 2v1 isn’t unfair, the only situation I’d see it as “unfair” is when it’s the top server working with the second top server to shut down the weakest server… but even then, it’s “blagh” but not enough to go make forum posts QQing about the whole thing. Just makes you want to fight back harder.

If BG is as great as they proclaim, then they’ll stick around, grit their teeth, fight through it and not give up, whine, or use unsavory means (spies, siege trolls, etc…). But if when things don’t go BG’s way and the resort is to whine, complain, use unsavory means… well, they simply aren’t that great of a server and don’t deserve that top spot, especially when their stacking is generally better than everyone else’s.

The fights are good, yes.

However, let’s follow this logic. So BG doesn’t give up and continues to be spawn camped in all three BL’s including EB. JQ and TC do not touch each others stuff at all. Example, just on JQ BL today, TC had our home tower while JQ had hills, if BG even came out and tried to wipe TC, TC runs in tower and immediately JQ comes to finish us off. Literally, no chance to hold any tower/keep anywhere.

Btw, map politics (what was happening in week 1) is not the same as organized 2v1. Map politics = BGBL, BG having to fight TC from taking NE tower, so JQ hits NW tower. That is map politics and working as intended. The situation we have now as described above is not map politics, but just plain unsportsmanlike.

Now, who’s to say JQ/TC doesn’t just team up again when BG pulls ahead in any week after this? Is that still fair? Would it still be fair if it was happening to your server? (again map politics is not the same as organized 2v1).

Also, to dispel some nonsense rebuttals on how “you deserved this:”
- Bought guilds for seasons = Bought as in help with transfer costs after they asked to move over? (yes they asked). Should I note how many guilds were “bought” by JQ and TC before seasons begun? Let’s just say they both got WAY more guilds than BG received. That’s a fact. Most of our players were already on BG but came out of their breaks for the season.
- Stacked server? JQ has equal (even more in certain time zones) coverage as BG. TC is really the only server that can complain since their only strong off hour coverage is EU.

Now, are there some bad apples on BG? Yes. Would you like me to name a few bad apples on everyone else’s server?

This organized 2v1 is doing nothing but ruining the season. You are taking a tournament that is suppose to be about who is the number 1 server, and instead turning it into a rigged horse race. Who can form alliances with what servers.

Do you really want to set the precedence going forward to always 2v1 the top server to the point where they cannot even own a tower? Because that is where this is headed. Why would anyone want to be the top server then? Should this season even be taken seriously any more since the matches will no longer be fair?

Why not just play the game as intended? You know, if it’s red it’s dead. Does that mean you shouldn’t focus the stronger server? No, if you’re TC and you see JQ and BG fighting then you should probably hit BG. I am not arguing against that. That’s fair game.

Because this is a tournament, and that guides actions. Your logic would all be true over the course of a 1 week battle. In this case, it makes much more sense for TC and JQ t o team up. If BG were to win week 3, they would have a very large lead in the league.

Don’t take it personally. Any server that had won the first 2 weeks would be a target.

True Story: I was in a 2v2 early this morning against BG (nakked farewell-grudge-dueling deep in BG territory … don’t ask). All of us commanders with friendly baggage that goes back almost to beta. Our foursome was coordinating in mumble. We were chatting our respective teams to keep them informed.

As it happened, JQ zerged around us, respecting our dance. And shortly after, TC zerged around us leaving us in peace!

Interestingly, a BG squad showed up and despite requests… could not resist mixing it up.

After a sigh and no whine to accompany the cheese… we reset, only to have the BG squad returned to disrespect us a second time. Our friendly and charming BG duo offered apologies and we said our farewells to them.

That’s just how BG defines roaming. Typically they outnumber the opponents. Try getting a 1v1 vs BG. Only a few people on the server enjoy it. Most run with groups.

Your issue is judging anything based on hot join. People don’t play there to win. They go to try out new classes, new specs, or to finish the last part of a daily.

If you see someone doing it in solo queue, by all means, say something. In hot join, you just need to understand why people are there.

@OP: A good mesmer can beat a good thief. You are judging too much from playing with caed or magic toker. They are not indicative of the class.

Essentially what they’re doing is seeding the top eight, randomizing the rest of the seeds, and then not allowing those bottom seeds to play.

Why not let the bottom seeds play?

One word: time. It is tough to do all that over one weekend.

I do hope that for every future tournament, they do change the rules and do this over multiple weekends.

For the most part, that’s what WvW is. I do both at a highest level so i’m not one of your typical posters who see’s things from one perspective. I agree that, 20v20 of the best WvWr’s vs the best 20 in pvp would not be a demolish. But that isn’t due to mechanics at all. The GvGr’s all have more experience following their commanders like headless chickens, blasting water fields, keeping stability up, dropping damage when he says drop damage. To me that is not skill but literally just a cluster crap of skills spammed and the guilds weaving in of each other until they drop people.

Your mechanics cannot be built in WvW at all. You ignore 90% of what GW2 combat mechanics brings, which is why WvW players feel they need 20v20. Without 20v20, their terrible mechanics get highlighted. In 20v20 you constantly have stability, multiple water fields and conditions getting cleansed for you. Savings skills for the right moment is not a necessity as opposed to just making sure stability and protection is up all the time.

You missed the main point of my post. WvW and PvP are way different. Both involve a lot of skill usage, just in different ways. WvW or PvE teams that come into the PvP tournament are going to get destroyed. Understanding the map, rotations, situational awareness are key.

Likewise, the top 4 PvP guilds combined would lose against the best 20v20 WvW GvG guild. To your point, it is about people understanding how to follow the commander, use combos at the correct time, etc.

Again, for me, I just find it amusing when a WvW or PvE guild think they will come into the tournament and win. They won’t. People tend to be good at one area of the game, and not multiple.

Also a decap Engi will be hell for a bunker Ele, since stability is… hard to get at.
0/0/20/30/20 is likely to become standard for it, maybe Boon runes if there’s a good set of them available.

While I’m looking forward to seeing more Staff Eles around, I’m really hoping we aren’t getting overbuffed into becoming flavour of the month and OP – I don’t think I could handle getting flamed with “l2p a balanced class noob” directly after so many months of “just reroll you stupid ele”.

I still think the meta will be more towards GC damage dealers than bunkers. Ranged damage + better survivability. It will be interesting to see how things play out.

Wow, you stopped progression on CAs for 4 days, until the patch comes out.

This restriction was put in place after previous player complaints of other players transferring to worlds who were winning or more likely to win during Season 1 last year. In addition to being explicitly stated in the blog post linked by players above, it was also messaged in the form of a warning when attempting to change worlds. This warning has been in place since the beginning of the tournament and reads as follows (emphasis mine):

Are you sure you want to transfer to <world>?

If yes, you’ll be logged out of your account, which may be inaccessible for a short period of time while the transaction completes. In addition, you cannot make another transfer for 7 days. Your WvW accessibility will be restricted to Edge of the Mists for the duration of the current match and until the end of your world’s next match.

The question I would have in resposne to is this: Are the lockouts starting as if players transferred today, or if I transferred a week ago does that start the time for my lockout?

The lockouts start the moment you transfer. If you transferred a week ago – meaning last Wed. then you were banned for the remainder of that match and this match. So you can play on reset this Friday.

If you transfer today you are banned from WvW for this match and next match.

People are making this way harder than it needs to be.

No thats a lie. I transferred last thursday and only got my penalty today. Ive been actively playing in WvW since then. Thats why people are complaining, because the penalty randomly comes up, not when its supposed to happen like when you transfer.

This ^^ I know people who transferred last week and were able to keep playing in WvW. The implementation is buggy.

I do agree with this…. I am wondering though if the staff ele meta will be more towards bunker or GC. Right now I haven’t run into a top 1000 PvP staff ele that is anything other than GC. Will be interesting to see.

You guys keep saying that you guys focus more on combat than the PvPr’s, which is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. Please believe, if there was a pure 5v5 of the any top PvP players vs ANY WvW/PvE player, doesn’t matter if if its in WvW or PvP, the group of PvP players would win easily………………….EASILY.

Good point. It will be nice to see PvPers and WvWers do a 20v20 and prove who is better. That’s the only real GvG at the moment.

20v20 is not GvG lol. Its a bunch of blobbing and blasting water fields while following the commander. Occasionally you have your backline peel off other backline members but that is it. It effectively ignores a lot of Gw2 combat mechanics. This is coming from someone who’s guild actually is a top WvW guild. WvW mechanics are extremely laughable. Average players mechanics aren’t isolated because it can be covered up through the other 19 members, so they can look like they are halfway decent. Put these players in a 5v5 situation, where their actually mechanics and knowledge of team fighting is highlighted, they will fail miserably. This has been shown time and time again.

Blob v Blob is what you meant lol. GvG? That is something that was left in back in GW1 unfortunately. Do not compare the two.

As I’ve said before, if you take the top 4 teams in the tournament into a 20v20 against the best WvW GvG guild, the GvG guild will win. If you take the best 5 members of the best GvG guild, they will get beat by any of the top 4 teams in the PvP tournament. I think you’d agree that in PvP, it is not only the combat mechanics you mention, but also rotation strategies, how to play the map, etc.

It’s still funny though the lack of understanding. PvP people think 20v20 is just a bunch of running around pressing 1 and doing water fields. WvW people think PvP is just running around standing on points. It’s funny and so wrong.

The sad reality is this… Talking about this is more exciting than watching a conquest match.

EotM: That exists for the reason you mentioned. It also gives more casual people a place to go and karma train and maybe get in a few fights.
WvW High Tier: This allows large zerg battles. For those who love seeing clashes of 40v40, this is the place to be.
WvW Lower Tier: Smaller scale fights or more guild only fights.

There is already something for everyone.

No idea where you got idea that conditions need nerf in www. Conditions need boost in www. Kind of stupid start to nerf something because some players wanna use cheesy specs and play game mode wrong way. If you wanna run alone and do you wannabe fighting buy rabid/dire gear.

There is no such thing as playing the game mode wrong. The fact is that condi spam is high, and outside of permastealth thieves, the best roaming specs tend to be condi.

In zergs, condis are a bigger threat than direct damage and is the reason so many people use food that helps reduce condi.

Lately, stealth has been going from a minor annoyance to something that is totally throwing off the balance of the game. Everything in this game has numerous amounts of direct counters except for Stealth. Control skills are countered by Stability, Blind, and Block. Conditions are countered by skills like Berserker’s Stance, Empathetic Bond, 409, etc. The balance between these mechanics may not be perfect, but they exist. As far as stealth goes the only real “counter” out there is Sic ’Em on the Ranger.

What we need is more skills to have the ability to put Reveal on stealth classes like Thieve and Mesmer. It does not have to last for long, just long enough that vs stealth heavy builds you throw them off their game long enough to mount a counter attack. Not all of them should require a target because skills like Shadow Refuge and Mass Invisibility are often times used when the target is already stealthed. These long duration stealths allow for them to totally reset the fight while the other person flails around trying to get lucky. It drives me insane when I hear people say “you can still hit them in stealth you know!?” (Yes, we know) as if that means you can magically always know where they are. Any stealth user with half a brain is going to get the hell out of danger and not stick around and they generally have shadowsteps/teleports to do it. The ability to also stack stealth after being downed is also ridiculous and can lead to the player being downed but conditions or what have you and being able to revive.

What I would like all of you to do is propose skills on your main class that seem like good candidates to receive the ability to apply reveal. I’ll start with Warrior:

Fear Me!: The best candidate by far. It has a fairly long cool down and if you want to reduce that you have to find 10 points to put into tactics and would also have to swap out Bull’s Charge.

Stomp: Even with the buffs it’s still not an amazing skill. It would be another reason to justify it being on your bar and once again has a fairly long CD. Might even give people a reason to grab Physical Training (but probably not).

Also, if ANet even gives Warriors an elite shout I’d like to see “None Shall Pass!” from GW1 brought back. It knocked down moving foes and it would be nice for it to have reveal as well.

I’m tired of being unable to reliably do anything about stealth heavy classes that have the ability to simply stealth up again after messing up and having to wait around for 10+ seconds wondering if maybe I downed them and don’t know it.

Seven or eight months ago I took a break for GW2. It was easy to do, there are other games out there, and I was tired of playing a game where the answer to the question, “who can kill a thief?” was “another thief”

…and all this time later, the answer is the same.

Is everyone ok with this? Is it acceptable that one thief can kill four or five people without any risk of dying? If anything goes bad they just stealth, run away, come back and kill anyone who’s left standing…

…and don’t tell me there’s no such thing as permanent stealth. They attack walls.. whatever… just poof gone. I’ve fought mesmers that do this too. Poof, gone, and minutes later they’re right back where you saw them last.

Are they hacking? great… then there’s that too….

How has this game held on so long? Why are people still playing it?

It it just ‘cause it’s free? ‘cause that’s about the only reason I’m here.

You need to specify between PvP or WvW. Otherwise it just seems like you are here to QQ.

As I’ve suggested before, make this really easy…

64 teams in the tournament
8 teams are selected by Blu and are the seeded teams.
56 teams are randomly selected and are randomly placed into bracket positions.

Then the “hand picked” teams should have to go through qualifiers for their place on the seeding list. It’s the difference between facing a 16 seed in the opening round or a 15 seed.

I had to put my waders on to get through the pool of alpha male testosterone in here.

I don’t disagree. I doubt Blu would select based on who has the hottest looking toon. I’d imagine that he’d select based on teams that have won or consistently done well in previous tournaments.

The main point though, is that I think Blu needs to be open about exactly how he plans to select teams, the total number of team, etc.
