nah, Bride made a post on Reddit where she explained that certain mobs (I think it was Harpies, not sure) don’t do aoe when everyone is in melee. That’s what I was referring to.
TIL
- countering mob mechanics in order to make fights easier =/= skill
- deliberately letting mobs use said mechanics against you = skill
Also what this has to do with his initial argument about melee in boss fights =/= skill I don’t even know.

Sorry what? where’s Lupi? Oh and throw in alpha while you’re at it.. and hey just for kittens and giggles, Lava shaman fotm 48. If you want to make some generalization, you’re gonna have a bad time.
just because a few bosses are hard doesn’t mean that other content can’t be broken by people who know how. What’s your point?
What’s yours? You want to make some silly argument about how because people are meleeing, they are trivializing boss fights when I just provided 3 examples that would say otherwise. I can add more if you would like. You then cling to fights that were never hard to begin with regardless of melee.

News flash, we still dodge things. And enemies still do AOE’s in melee range. Also playing ranged is easy mode. If we wanted to take the easiest path, ranged is what we’d play.
not sure I saw a dodge there…
LOL one video? And it’s ac to boot huehuehue. Not to mention a bunch of outdated builds and gameplay. Pls, show me how you are meleeing lupi without dodging or using any evasive skills.
You can do that right? since it’s soooo easy.
good example: operative Belka. That boss got so fast burned down that mechanics were nearly completely ignored. Just put up a wall of reflection and burn him down in a few seconds. Sure there are exceptions, but those don’t devaluate my point, which is: most encounters are harder if you don’t know how to break those (Belka).

Its like my moms logic. Ants = your eating too much at desk while playing PC. My counter argument, theres ants in my bathroom too but i never had food in there ever.
Those ants are eating all the dead skin flakes that wash off your body and don’t make it to the drain. Mmmm delicious.
-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-
Lol, what? That highlighted bit is the best part about your entire post. We work pretty hard to find the best possible tactics and builds in order to clear content as fast as possible. This takes skill and knowledge.
So, there is no skill involved in clearing every possible dungeon path in the game in 10-15 minutes, I guess. I mean, it’s so easy even PUGs can do it.
Oh wait, no it’s not, PUGs take 40 minutes to an hour for a path we clear in 10 minutes.
Come tell me how easy it is to trivialize content when you did Arah p3 in <15 minutes or killed lupi in under a minute. Or when you can clear every CoE path in <12 minutes. Or when you can kill Subject Alpha in 12 seconds flat.
And kittening LOL at that part about the GW2 subreddit being semi-good players. Most of them are a bunch of sh*tters that can’t stand it when people point out how bad their builds/play style are, even if you do it constructively.
I have earned every single bit of the gold I made. I flat out refuse to run CoF p1 for example, whereas scrubs and sh*tters are making more money than I am when doing Arah or any other dungeon that isn’t CoE while they’re running that joke of a dungeon.
If there is anyone that doesn’t deserve the money they make it’s the CoF p1 crowd.
from what I’ve seen in those Speed-Run videos your playstyle isn’t about fast reflexes but about knowledge of how to trivialize content. I didn’t say this was easy, I said that you make it easy because of your knowledge (which I’m sure is difficult to figure out).
Pugs don’t know that enemies won’t cast AOEs when everyone is in melee. Are you telling me people who survive AOE by dodging at the right moments haven’t had a harder time to survive?
calling a whole community a bunch of sh*tters shows only that you can’t cope with other peoples opinion that not everybody likes this playstyle. If I’m a sh*tter because I enjoy using my reflexes, because I enjoy playing ranged, and I don’t care about theorycrafting and figuring out what the fastest way of playing is (because I don’t want to rush through a dungeon in 15min)… then I’m proud to be a sh*tter.
at least I agree with you on the CoF p1 crowd

Sounds like someone’s a little bitter about speedclears. Being efficient and maximizing your skills and dps does not = exploiting lol. I would classify that as actually playing the game correctly. You see, it works like this. The better you are, the more rewarded you are. You get organized and all run predetermined builds and play skillfully, you are rewarded with a faster run.
-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-
I really do not understand what is so bad about this boss.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUiwiFjFvxU&feature=youtu.beI see a nearly ideal DPS group right there. A mesmer, 2 warriors and a guardian for support. You guys seemed to be pretty organised. But you clearly don’t understand the issue here. It is a level 35 dungeon, the first explorable mode dungeon, do you seriously expected level 35 characters to fare this well?
Whoah you left out my LH ele, I see how it is man. >:(
pffft LH ele does so little damage it barely counts. its all about warriors and clicking 2 to win
Why u do dis to me T_T
-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-
At this point, they need to take all dungeons out of the game so people doing them can move onto another MMO, reduce the game world to Lion’s Arch, build a Fashion Show runway outside of the bank for people to AFK on, and allow us to browse the trading post and gem store from our iPhones. This is the only way to save Guild Wars 2.
Omg the truth of this statement ladies and kittening gentlemen.

It is interesting to see how some people in this thread are ranting about how easy the boss is to kill if you just do A, bring utility skill B, use weapon C, have trait D, have enough dps and melee the boss etc etc.
Its all very well and good if you are doing this as a coordinated guild run, but to expect a pug to meet all these requirements is simply unrealistic. This is especially true after a change in the boss mechanics when the new knowledge on how to effectively do the boss hasn’t filter down to the average player yet.
So why should people feel entitled to sleepwalk their way through any encounter without a bare minimum of coordination and group effort? All you have to do is pick a decent weapon and use a couple key utility skills. That’s it. If you can’t be bothered to do that, maybe you don’t deserve to complete the dungeon?
He has a point here, and it’s that pugs are kittened.
You may be doing all the right things, but how the hell can you get 4 other people you’ve never met before to do it? The thing is, these dungeons are supposed to be able to be done by any setup, but in this case, you’re asking pugs who, a great deal of, are rocking pvt sets, signets and magic find… to do something that requires them to get their kitten together. It doesn’t happen as often as it should T_T. Other day I just had to solo the tree because the rest of them are not willing to wear a decent set of gear or change up utilities. Imo they shouldnt cater dungeons to that slacker mentality, but they do for all the others, why make an acception for TA -.- now it’s only worth doing with a team of friends/guildies.
-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-
with some kitten stat combination, and no tokens?
Depends… are we talking about +Vitality/Prec/Tough? If so then count me in.
I’m so tired of the most common combos ALWAYS being +Power, or +Condition.
+Power never should have been an option to begin with b/c it’s lead to this Zerker crud
And ++Condition is a joke in Dungeons that Anet STILL hasn’t fixed even though this ENTIRE BALANCE UPDATE claimed they were focusing on fixing conditions/traits!It doesn’t take an entire YEAR to fix such an obvious oversight, good lawrd…

You’re all wrong. Best way to do dungeon is equip two ranged weapon options, put a full set of magic find on (make sure you have rune of the pirate+ sigil of luck too) and auto attack as fast as you can, mash that 1 key hard. You’ll be the hardest worker there, and for your efforts, you deserve to have magic find so you can get a little extra. Because let’s face it, if you’re not dieing, you must be doing something right, and the rest of your team should be thanking you on bended knee.
-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-

-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-
I’d say thanks A-Net but it’s not their fault. You can blame NcSoft for this joke.

I have same problem, I don’t want to leave because then I would feel bad, but some people really are doing you a disservice and don’t deserve your time. Then my bf tells me to leave because he cant stand listening to me cussing every 5 mins because someone’s being stupid or wearing magic find lol. Only time now I don’t leave is if I have opened the instance, I can’t get over that guilt, even if the whole team is full of complete idiots.

Unless they are newbies with fresh lvl 80s in green and rare, this is pretty much blocklist material.
maybe for you; but id like to think that if they perservere they could get better
- my blocklist is reserved for kittens and gold bots
You know it’s bad when you explain to them how to do it, and they ignore you or tell you to kitten off, and continue for the entirety of the run doing the same thing. That’s usually not persevering at that point.
-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-

-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-
lol; i used to pug farm coe alot; if i noticed he was targetting me on either my mesmer or ele (who both could easily survive solo if crystallised; and if the team werent… good) id pull off so the rest of the team could full on dps and ignore dodges (although if you run with all warrs WWing into a wall; it wouldnt matter; you clearly dont play very pug friendly)
Why in the nine hell would you kitten your own dps because people can’t dodge ? if they can’t dodge don’t group with them.
You call that “farming”..
If ur off kiting him around ur lowing the dps of the team too because it’s likely he’ll be off running around chasing and not standing still. Dodging Alpha is so easy you dont even need to pay attention, if a pug can’t count 1,2 dodge, then they aren’t worth grouping with o_o. Hell even if you do wanna carry them, guardian + aegis chain for the bads that cant figure out a simple mechanic would be better.
-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-
Those are bad rules. Many high DPS/fast attacking parties might choose to focus on getting some of the adds down before focusing on the shield, especially if it’s in the middle.
ofcourse there are situations where you can do enough kittens to do something different, i said it was the best and only way to do it hurdurr. I’m a big poopy face and I smell my own butt.
I never said that, thanks for inventing a quote with my name on it.
It shouldn’t be possible to kick players from the party during an instance. That’s totally broken.
Ya cuz THAT wouldn’t promote trolling.
There is always a downside. But tbh, which person would troll in the last fractal? I don’t think ppl would spend so much time to troll at the end and such things. At least it doesn’t support bad manners and unfairness.
I see too many people get in, get halfway through and then switch to their magic find sets and slack off. Now imagine you can’t kick them.

~1500-5000; probably has a decent amount of experience; average
~5000-7000; probably knows classes and dungeons extensively (though… im currently sitting at 6.9k; and havent touched arah exp – but ive done every other dungeon alot)
7000+; Gw2 god/extreme no lifer… i always take note of people i see with extremely high AP; and it likely means they have a ton of experience (branching to different parts of the game)… this personal threshold will probably go up once i reach it… because then it would be wildly inaccurate xpThis is entirely bullkitten in my opinion. Anyone can grind achievements. It takes no skill, it takes time. Getting DM isn’t hard, you can get carried if you want. There are plenty of 7000+ achievement players that are total kittenters, whereas there are plenty of <5000 players who’ll wipe the floor with you when it comes to dungeons.
Anyone that thinks high achievements = probably good player needs to get their head out of their behind. All I get from achievements is <1500: risky, probably bad, kick if needed. But that goes for any PUG. I never check achievements. If they’re bad, they’ll get booted. If they’re good, I don’t care if they got 9.2k achievements or 400.
^ this. I find that if they are really low, the likelihood of them being bad increases, but that never means 100% that they are bad, I’ve been pleasantly surprised from time to time.. and I’ve also had some absolute awful players at 5K +.. I’ve even seen someone at 8K… 8K man… and he was running a bar full of signets on a Guardian and had a luck sigil…Wtf happened to him Idk lol.

It’s a game. As a female gamer I couldn’t give a flying kitten how much people think it’s offensive how little or how much a female char model is wearing. I wouldn’t care of there was a 100% naked model. Why be sensitive to objectifying women in a video game? I doubt the lot of you cause such a raucous about it when it happens in real life.
Also I’m not impressed with alot of the skins in this game, especially for charrs and medium classes, I’m tired of all the potato-sack inspired get-ups. They need to have a massive influx of new skins, and they need to branch out from the boring majority of stuff they have now. I’m tired of wearing a reskin of my lvl 1 skirt on my ele because the other options consist of long Amish skirts or daggy pants. power to the people who enjoy that, but I’m not interested. I play to tailor the look of my character to how I want, but there’s limited options at the moment.

1.) People whining about how they cannot handle social interaction.
2.) It’s easier to make solo dungeons that take 5 mins.
-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-
Your first char, I advise wait till 80. AC is the first accessible dungeon for you at a requirement of lvl 30 for story mode and 35 for explorable. Go ahead and do the story mode, see how you feel. Be prepared to get your face smashed in on your first AC explorable mode though, it’s an initiation ceremony imo.
If you are really eager on doing AC at lvl 35 though here is my advice:
Get yourself a full set of lvl 35 crafted rare gear. This is cheap off the trading post, or you can craft it also, this includes accessories and weapons. Put some runes of Life on them (also very cheap) to get your health going a bit because you don’t want to throw yourself in the deep end. I recommend Vigorous Gear, its stats are Power and Vitality. The vitality will be a health buff for you for any mistakes you make. Make sure you have both a melee and ranged option, eg, warrior- Greatsword and rifle so you can easily get out of a kittenty situation, later when you are more experienced you can run dual melee setups. Pop a cheap sigil on the weapons, I think you can grab a low % chance sigil of fire or something for a couple copper. The dungeon itself, on completion of a few runs will*more* than cover the cost of the gear afterwards. Look up a video on youtube explaining the fights before entering.
You can get a dungeon group by using www.gw2lfg.com. Be prepared to be kicked or ignored by alot of people at lvl 35, because they only want 80’s for a fast run. Put in your advertisement that you are lvl 35 but willing to listen, I’m sure someone will be happy to pick you up.
Once you’ve done a few runs you will get used to it all, and once you hit 80 you should be well and truly ready to shed the training wheels gear and run a full berserker set up. Great thing about lvling up your first char in dungeons is, you are in the deep end from the start, and it only gets easier. Makes you a better player overall.
Remember that as you level up, buy the next lvl set of gear off the trading post, soon you will have 3 stat gear available to you (available starting at level 55/60), at which point I recommend buying knights- Toughness/power/precision and when you are comfortable in that, upgrade to berserker’s- Power/precision/critical damage.
As a reminder to the naysayers- Alot of us did AC at lvl 35 at the start of the game, and we kittened and whined about it. But we did do it.. And this player is in a better position than us, he has videos showing him what to do, and easy access to lvl appropriate gear along with teams who know full well how to do the run.
Utilities- Take group supporting Utilities. The last thing people want to see is a warrior with a bunch of signets next to his name. For you, I recommend you choose from this selection:
‘For Great Justice!’ (aoe might and fury)- This is the staple of most warrior builds.
Banner of Dicipline (great damage buff for your team)
Battle Standard ( Aoe Resurection for your team mates + fury/might for duration)
Balanced stance (particularly important for you in AC because of all the knockdowns)
‘Shake it off!’ ( Good condi removal for team if it’s lacking)
Healing Surge ( Good outright heal)
‘On my Mark!’ 10 stacks of vulnerability on target. Makemsure you use this on the target to be focused.
Frenzy- Quickness for your hundred blades, also servers as a stun breaker/knock down breaker.
Endure Pain- If you really need it/ are struggling.
Great sword- I just wanna throw a quick something in here- Your number 3 Whirlwind attack is an evasion skill. if you are out of vigor and you need a dodge, this is the skill to use, it’s got a decent cooldown and will save your hide many times. Spin to win as they say.
If/when you want to swap to double melee sets I recommend Axe/Mace and Greatsword. Always carry one of every weapon though, for example 1H sword and warhorn (or shield) are excellent weapons for skipping past mobs, longbow has it’s niche for aoe ranged damage and aoe might combo field etc etc..
Have a quick look at the start( first 3 posts or so) of this thread, (ignore the carebears ranting off afterwards)
