Looks like the players who “play how they want”, namely, those running around in yellows with a ridiculously suboptimal build are afraid of a bit of criticism. That’s why they’re so scared of “inspect” and “duel”.
However, to the rest of us who are serious about clearing content, this would be a godsend. No more special snowflakes ruining world boss events and dungeons.
No, players who play how they want are doing exactly what Anet had envisioned. Your post pretty much sums up why some in the pro-duel/inspect camp can be safely ignored.
If you want a game that’s a total gankfest, then go and play one. GW2 isn’t for you.
What would making duelling fun in pve is not the fact that you are fighting 1v1 with another player but that you are fighting in the huge open world and you can do thing you wouldnt be able to in spvp. For example, if we could duel in pve we could duel while doing a jumping puzzle, we can duel around a champ, you can duel while fighting Jormag, etc. It is the options that come with duelling in pve which makes it fun not only the fact that you can duel.
Not much fun for the people who are trying to do said content whilst putting up with two idiots getting in the way, eh?
I rolled a Warrior once. I was bored senseless.
Warriors are fine if you just want to steamroll through content, but the other classes (even the incredibly weak Elementalist) I find are more fun to play when I want to actually explore places. I stopped doing dungeon runs ages ago because it seems to some elitists, nothing less than a Warrior will do, and all dungeon runs should be considered a second job – at least to carry them through. No, a job is something I do during the day which earns me money and I game at night for fun.
My current main is a Necromancer, but I recently rolled a Mesmer and I’m having a lot of fun with it.
For some reason, people are reeeeaally against inspect, at least the people that trolled the suggestions forum.
Yes, apparently objecting to the implementation of a tool that further empowers the moaning egotistical moronic elitists in further locking out ordinary players from their oh-so-precious dungeon-grinding parties is now called “trolling”.
I’d like to see a visibility toggle option for boots since for some light armours they look clunky against the rest of the armour set and various races like the Sylvari and Asura don’t even wear shoes, but then I’ve wanted this (and gloves) since beta. At least we got to hide the gloves in the end.
Duels are like the costume brawl; fun between friends while waiting in PvE.
In other words, duelling already exists in the form of costume brawls. Case closed.
Up next, another repeat thread on mounts…
Give me an option to decline all duel requests (and autoblock repeat spammers) and the duelheads can do whatever they please.
Try guesting on a few other servers before making the switch. I’m on Piken Square and the community there is, for the most part friendly. You do get the odd idiot who tries it on in map chat from time to time, but they get bored pretty quickly when they realise they’re not the centre of attention.
It’s day 366 when you get your Birthday gift – or at least it was when my ranger got his.
Changing utility skills temp wont destroy them? On my necro he only uses the elite minion as I prefer wells and that’s the only way I can get rid of him if I don’t want him around anymore – change elite skill and he dies.
Might be worth a shot.
It’s a bit clunky, but I never realised that I could do this to get rid of the minions. Seems to work on all the minions summoned so far.
Cheers!
Playing a Necromancer and having a few minions around for additional muscle is great for the most part expecially those moments when she’s alone in the wilderness with only angry wildlife everywhere wanting to rip chunks out of her, but what happens if, after a hard day’s killing and exploring, I want my character to rest up for a few hours, down a few pints at the local inn and have a chat with the locals? Those minions simply do not have the manners to wait outside and simply end up getting in everybody’s way.
This is further exacerbated now that Lion’s Arch is no more, and the new public gathering site is a run-down old ruin surrounded by harsh wilderness where even the rabbits are out to get her. Still, it doesn’t mean my Necro needs to be flanked by the abominations of her own making 24/7, needlessly obscuring NPCs and other players.
So, how about a destroy all minions hotkey? To avoid it being misused in W3 and PvP (could it even be misused?) it should have a cooldown timer of perhaps 1-2 minutes attached to it as well).
Thoughts?
Looks like the Super Adventure Box got a graphical upgrade!
Sick to death of MOBAs.
“Sweet, sweet loot!”
“Ooh, shiny!”
Yeah, I think these one-liners are permanently burned into my ear-drums.
Time to line up the shot glasses and get drunk on yet another duplicate race change thread.
I highly doubt this. And I find it dubious and a foolish attempt to insult the poster. How do you know he wasn’t joking around?
Because we seem to get this kind of thread started almost weekly? Anyone can create an account to do a bit of trolling you know.
We all float down here.
Everyone take a shot!! drinks
I’m already on my third liver. Oh, and kidneys grow back, don’t they??
Many people, that where lost, came back. People that lost trust in Arenanet. Hopeing this patch would give them a sign off recovery. a reason to come back. This has been extremely hyped up. Those people will be gone forever now.
I’m sorry, but what? From where I’m sitting, the “many people” is yourself, and the rest of this paragraph is more about your frustrations with this game and Anet, rather than the feelings of the community at large.
All announced times are Pacific.
Anet launches the patch during the typical American workday on the day they announced it, so it will launch between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. pacific.
Indeed. This has always been the case. Why is the OP so surprised?
They should never have gone with 80 in the first place. GW1’s level cap was 20 and could be achieved over a weekend and still left you with around 80% of the world to explore because your level was superfluous – it was there just to get you into the game. After 20, your skill set was all that mattered, not some mindless grind to endgame.
Come on, it took them over three quarters of a year just to add a visibility toggle to gloves in the first place. I’m still waiting on a toggle visibility option for boots myself, but any additional customisation options will be most welcome.
Worthless basement-dwelling oxygen thieves.
Trying to see how many people are actually waiting for a new game to stop playing gw.
I’m trying to wait for camelot unchained or eq next
I’m not waiting on anything because this is a forum for discussing GW2, not its rivals. Go somewhere else if you want to shill other games.
Who cares about the personal story?
Who cares about race change?
No, it’s not a problem. I prefer running the Champ train against justifying my existence to a bunch of sell-appointed dungeon gate-keepers who insist that I must have 10,000+ AP points and more zerker gear than you could shake an armoury at.
Well who gives a poop about personal story, I sure don’t!
You seem to be labouring under the false impression that you speak for the entire GW2 playerbase. Just roll a new character already.
Just because there are shops that sell used video games doesn’t make it legal to do, the GW2 EULA says you can’t.
Here in the UK it is perfectly legal to sell any commodity you own, including games. EULAs have no legal standing over here because 1) You cannot legally sign away your statutory rights (which many EULAs actually require you to do if you read the small print) and 2) you are never presented with an EULA until after you have purchased your game, which means the end user is perfectly entitled to ignore it. Licensing terms have to be presented prior to money changing hands, not after.
I don’t understand why people are against duels, I like them as a way to kill time with friends when waiting for open world events. If they aren’t here I’ll still live, but I don’t understand why some people are so against it, can one of you that are so against it please elaborate as to why you are?
Try one of the many threads linked to above. You’ll find your answer there.
Also, those people that claim “I don’t rent video games” as an argument against subscriptions are ignorant. If you bought GW2, then yes, you’re renting it… your access has an expiration date on it, just like any subscription. It’s just longer (which goes back to the value argument.)
Only partly true. I can play the game as long as the servers remain up, not until I stop handing over money. That’s where the rent analogy comes into it.
For the OP’s question – no I would not.
I bought GW2 and GW before it because they had no sub. I do not believe in paying full price for a game and then being forced to pay every month just to access it. It’s for that very reason why the new consoles do not interest me – I already pay for broadband, but I’ll be kitten ed if I’m expected to pay a second time to use it!
well, yes, there is some p2w-element in the game, was there from the very beginning. Buy win or not, your choice, it is as easy as that. And if those few dollars/euros are too much for you, well, chances are, you should be thinking about your career instead of wasting too many hours in a game anyway.
A few dollars or euros? That resource gathering set costs £40, or $80 or whatever it is in euros! There’s nothing “micro” about these transactions.
Perhaps one day you will grow up, have a family, mortgage, responsibilities, or just count yourself lucky that you were able to hold on to your job during this economic crisis which has seen many people lose their jobs and homes overnight. All of which has appeared to have completely passed you by, or you simply grew up in a privileged household where your parents never knew when to say “no”. People have financial responsibilities outside of gaming, you know. Did it ever occur to you that some people work 70-80 hour weeks for a meagre salary and resort to gaming to get their minds off things?
Show some consideration for those of us who are not as well off as you.
At the moment, there is something seriously wrong when a resource gathering pack (mining pick, harvesting sickle, etc) costs as much as the game itself (around £40 here in the UK) for what are, effectively minor convenience items.
Town clothing items cost nearly £10 for each piece and of course, should you delete a character that is wearing such items (and forget to remove those items first, like I did – luckly the Gems were bought with in-game gold) then you’ve just thrown away a lot of money for absolutely nothing at all.
There is no reason for me to spend real money on intangible, disposable fluff. There is certainly no reason for me to spend the equivalent of a new game on a handful of flashy convenience items that may be replaced by even flashier items that harvest items unobtainable through other means further down the line.
Long rant short – Gem store items are overpriced, and there’s no comeback for the player if they accidentally destroy those items. A couple of quid here and there and I could probably overlook it, but £40? I could buy a new game (or several indie games) for that!
Gem Store mounts with speed boosts would be little more than a P2W mechanic which could easily be abused in WvW.
Mounts already exist in some form on the Gem Store and there’s little need for any more.
I see people are mentioning Skyrim in relation to GW2 in terms of value for money. I’ve put in nearly 600 hours on Skyrim and probably double that in Gw2.
The conclusion? I got two bloody good games for £40 each.

Didn’t you post this a few months back in the old Suggestions forum?
One thing I liked about GW1 was the overall lack of levels. You could hit level 20 quickly but still had 90% of the game left to explore.
Although levelling in GW2 is relatively painless, I can’t help but feel that a high level cap was put in place for the WoW generation to whom numbers are everything.
For some reason, the Piken Square train bypasses Bandit.
I would take anything posted on Reddit with an oceanful of salt to be honest. Reddit, like the Youtube video comments section is the cesspit of the internet.
So here’s a couple of questions for all the anti-train posters – Why are you bothered? How does it affect you what other people like doing?
As for the suggestion that people should farm the dungeons for better loot – well, we know how noob friendly these dungeon runners are, don’t we? Oh, and show me a dungeon that will allow a level 1 player access (and don’t say Fractals).
The champ train isn’t “fine” in a design sense. It provides enjoyable play for some people, people who like mindlessly following a rotation, but it takes people away from the intended end game content and those premium open world events suffer from lack of numbers.
End game starts at level 1 according to Anet and surprisingly the champ train can be done at that level. Your point therefore is invalid.
Ahh okeyyyy, that’s why this game is called “Guild Wars”, I get it…now it all makes soo much sense!
Good one btw…
Might I suggest you read the whole thread before commenting?
I would say it is rather clear that my post was answering posts about the game having only 1% of stuff to do with guilds, which is false, and thus I supplied some information to show that there is indeed quite a bit of guild stuff going on.Reading the whole thread?
Yeaaah…no……..I’m sorry but I have a handicap where when I open a thread my brain automatically ignores all posts except one.
But don’t worry, your elaborate clarification opened my mind and I can now see that GW2 consists at least of >1.1% “stuff to do with guilds”.In other words, you can’t be bothered reading other people’s views and explanations on things and dismiss them out of hand, but you demand that everybody else give your meaningless posts their fullest attention?
Right.
I find your lack of sarcasm detection disturbing.
I think I need more coffee…

Right.
The go and play something else, Sirendor. Nobody’s forcing you to play a game you seem to hate so much.
i agree with skyfallsin but ive seen this topic a million times. op should have necod one of those thread instead of making his own
I think it’s just habit from spamming the duel option in those other games and not getting the desired response from people who aren’t interested in duelling.
I know one thing for certain: I would walk away from this game.
I play the game as I see fit and not as how other people demand I play (LF Tank! LF Healer!). The lack of a trinity has been a good thing. it means that I can roll whatever build I wish and use my own skills to advance through the game, rather than rely on stats and other people to back me up.
If I wanted to play a WoW clone, i would already be playing one of the many clones out there. I don’t. I want to play GW2.
Still in favor. It’s totally pathetic that you can’t get a new race on your character because of the lame story nobody cares about.
No, it’s totally pathetic that you can’t be bothered rolling a new character because you aren’t interested in the story.
Another week, another race change thread.
The real solution is to permaban the sellers, and slap anyone who bought (received gold) from them with a 2 month tempban (as well as subtracting the gold from their account, even if they have already spent it and it sends them into the negatives).
Anybody who buys gold from gold spammers should receive a permanent ban. No exceptions.
They know what they’re doing and they should face the consequences for doing so.
