This is a PVE game. Since the release when i read there is not open world pvp i realize that this is a pve game with some pvp minigames and modes. No more than that.
PVE/coop-mode is “one time play only” how many times you play a coop game or single player game? one, two maximum. If you play it more is because some reward like “achievements” (the worst thing ever in game history to gain gameplay hours and replayability) or items. Arenanet cant abuse with items tier (already done with ascended anyways) but no like WoW.
PVE NEED content to keep players playing it. PVP no, who like pvp play it anyways, the same map, the same mode for years without reward or achievements, who play PVE need rewards and content constantly because pvp is fun, But pve is fun one time, is one time experience, no more.
This is a PVE game. Arenanet need to keep it alive and all resources goes to that.

In this game there is 3 types of roles, Damage, Support or Defence, are you telling me Warrior is only viable with Damage? I mean there is class better in Support than Damage (Guardian) and Warrior can be best with Damage, but they must have some build more Defencive or more Supportive
In this game SHOULD BE 3 type of roles. But there aren’t.
The best build for ANY class is DPS oriented. Sad but true.
Some classes sacrifices some DPS for an overall big utility (like Guardians) but most of them (Warriors, Thieves, Mesmers, Elementalists, Engineers…) are just pure damage dealers.
I was dreaming about roles too, then I started searching on other forums (aka GW2guru) and tried things out objectively: DPS is the only way.
Again: sad, but tue.EDIT: If you are wondering why a defensive/healing build is useless the answer is simple:
Lower DPS, longer fight.
Longer fight, higher chance for mistakes (missed skill, interrupted heal, not-dodged attack).
Higher chance for mistakes, higher chance for wipes.

Tanky or defensive options is a MUST in all pvp games or modes. I am not talking about killing noobs.
You said “Longer fight, higher chance for mistakes”, no, is not how this work, defensive options let you more control over the fight, healing let you undo what enemy do. CC or break CC let you undo enemy actions. That is all defensive. Tanky let you make more mistakes, and in glasscanon dps one mistake and you are almost death. You cant burst down a tanky (a good player tanky) and you cant hold a long fight with a glasscanon build. You need to kill fast, and you cant kill fast a good tanky dps.
The build that I go with on S/d is defensive, it allows for most mobility I can muster, through weapon skills and utility, while the gear gives me my raw stats for dps.
Try to keep an eye on retaliation. You are running full berserker gear. If you spam attacks you will die vs a tank dont matter how much mobility or stealth you have.
The problem is that decent guards have almost 100% uptime retaliation. You need to steal it, try sword/dagger. And yes, like K U T M said, poison, for slow down the regeneration. You need a lot of them and play it smart, good guards have great condition removal.
If you want to deal damage like a warrior, just run a non trash build?
Is not a trash build, is a wvw frontline build.

I main a guardian. In zergs i use AH build for frontline, 18/20k hp, 3200 armor, 3000 damage, 25% critical chance, 45% critical damage, 900 healing power.
Recently I level up a warrior to 80, full exotic full tanky dps, 30k hp, 3400 armor, 3000 damage, 20% critical chance, 40% critical damage, 450 healing power.
Both hammer and X weapon
My warrior have a lot more damage, a lot more health pool, a lot more regen per second. Still with a lot of condi removal and HIGH mobility, A LOT more CC. A lot of offensive support buff.
My guardian have better recovery (burst healing) and defensive support buff.
I enjoy both, but for damage roll a warrior. If you love to fight in the middle of a lot of enemies you should have both professions, you will love it.
“Tanky/good defensive” profession/builds can absorb/avoid your burst. You cant absorb the constant damage, you are too squishy. If you keep fighting you will die through retaliation or direct damage, because guardian have better sustainability and keep damaging all the fight.
I am a kind of person who think glasscanon dont work in pvp, in any game, is like throw a coin and see which glasscanon die first, kill or die, until you meet a smart tanky dps.
In pvp, you should build defensive as equal to offensive, never full offensive.
I find cleric gear great for wvw small roaming group, small fights or duo as support, very powerful, a lot of survivability. But i dont use it in zerg, there are better options for zergs.
For fractals go for damage, there are only npcs.

I had guardian as my only main class but is exactly for that i created a warrior.
Now, with my warrior in level 80, with full exotic tanky dps build i agree a lot with you, right now warrior is almost “all in one” profession, i have a lot of build to try, compared with my limited guardian.
Guardian is a melee class without tools to keep in melee. No condition damage, no decent range, and as you said, a lot of useless and bad organized traits and utilities (spirit weapons is maybe the worst utility type in game)
Guardian dont need only a buff in certain areas, need a rework and reorganize of a lot of traits. Guards only excel in bunker (idk how far right now), and core support for zergs and some duo roamers.
The problem is not the speed. Traveler will not fix it.
With some builds you have perma swiftness, even with GS/sword you have a LOT of mobility, more if you run JI. I can chase a LOT, i always catch my target (excluding dagger ele and GS/sword-horn warriors)
The problem is not the speed or gap closer, the problem is the lack of cripple/chill, soft CC to keep them closer when you catch him. Because when you catch him they can jump far again or cripple/immobilize/chill you. And this is the second problem, the lack of “auto” remove or reduction of softCC, we havent, we are very vulnerable to soft CC, we need to be like warriors, they have a lot of “anti soft CC traits” we are more melees than warriors and we have nothing like that.
Someone know if arenanet will buff or remake spirit weapons in the next big upcoming patch?

In my opinion PoV is better for roaming, roaming is about mobility, the oppossite of purging flames, and sometimes you need to remove that insane 25 stacks what some build can stack in too short time. Sometimes you cant wait for it (PF only remove 1 per second) And you are force to play defensive if the enemy is range because you need to stay in the circle. Letting the enemy to make a great pressure to you.
Right now PoV remove 2 condition (is bugged) and convert 1 into boons, if you run pure shout you can remove 6 conditions and convert 3 into boons in a low CD, plus the buff of the shouts.
Absolute resolve is a plus, and VoR is not a great healing tool with low healing power. You need to cycle wisely VoR and renewed focus and VoR again to clear conditions, is a plus to another condition removal tool, you need to use it in a perfect situation, when you are low or almost dying and need clear your conditions, if not, use your another condition removal tool. Is all about choices in the right time.
Another way to have a insane condition removal gaining critical damage and without PoV, is using Absolute resolution, runes of lyssa and contemplation of purity. Is a GREAT synergy. You have 3 condition removal by VoR, you convert all condition into boons with contemplation of purity, you can use renewed focus to convert all your conditions again into boons (lyssa rune) and you have again VoR to another 3 condition removal. Is great, a lot of condition removal and a lot of boons without shouts or PoV.
But is only my opinion, i respect your choice to try something new, right now the guardian is stuck in few high viable builds.
Which runes you have now Christos? I have your build, works great, but i depend a lot on my partners to do damage, how can i improve the damage output without losing too much survivability and support power?
-You havent condition removal, with 14k health you will have a bad time vs conditions.
-You have low armor and low mobility, even with that runes, you need gap closers, dash, blinks. Because in roaming there are a LOT of cripples and chills and mobility builds…
-You have very poor sustainability, AH need players around, and you have low healing power for regen or roll dodges to keep you alive. AH is good because you dont need healing power, but you need people around.
Build mobility and condition removal if you wanna be berserker. Try the build roaming alone or with 1 or 2, not in minizergs or pug groups, try to find lonely roamers and duel them, is the best way to try your build. There is a lot of bad players in wvw, you need to try your build in duels or vs great roamers.
I agree with tanshiniza, try triple meditation or healway, i run healway for roaming and is great, with GS/sword i have a lot of mobility, i am pretty hard to kill. I use AH for zerg only or big roaming groups. You can try stunningstyles build for roaming, search it in youtube is great too, GS/staff with a lot of condition removal and nice damage.
Harbinger: this is not about naysayers, he ask for a rate, and he lack on mobility and condition removal, essential tools in roaming.
You need to have 20k+ health and 3200+ armor. If you can build some healing power would be great. Forget about anything else (you need to stay alive, only that). Focus on that.
AH is GREAT for frontline. Even without healing power, AH scale bad with HP but scale great with regen, dodge rolls and healing skills, if you can build healing power good, if not dont worry too much, with AH build you have at least 300.
Some players talk about “low/mid health pool” and “healing power” and stacking only armor, there is a post about it explaining this, and is true but situational, 16k health in frontline is a suicide dont matter how much armor you have.
PVT. you need PVT or sentinel equipment. I am not commander but i have almost 20k hp, 3200 armor and 900 healing power with AH build and i am one of the last alive with the commander. And every good guardian commander i know is almost full PVT.
If not traited virtues is a pretty weak mechanics, if traited is pretty strong one. Guard have greats traits for virtues.
That force you to trait them for being really useful.

And you have a PERFECT chain CC like 10seconds or more on your character? You have THAT amount of CC? because i dont.
Are you talking about 10 players chasing a thief spamming CC? Or only 1 or 2?
did you know thief can stunbreak and go to stealth?
You are talking to spam to “possible thief location” trying to guess if you are hitting him or not?
And even if you can land a CC on him, you can only hit a couple of times before the thief go to stealth again… you have the power of oneshoot someone? because i dont, if i have i will die with a couple of backstabs vs a good thief.
If you win vs a thief, he is a BAD ONE who decide to die. When i kill a thief with my guard, is because he is a bad one who decide to die through retaliation.
VS GOOD THIEF you lose or thief run. No other possibility.
I think guard YES need more mobility buff but not that runes. There are far better runes for guardians.
Guardians need a mobility buff, as a melee fighter, like warrior have. In sPvP is not a problem because the mechanic, but in roaming wvw is a big problem if you dont run pure mobility build.
When i roaming i go for healway build, with GS/sword-focus. With SyS only as utility speed. My mobility is great but i agree i need to run this specific build to have this mobility.
There is far better runes for guardian, if any good in this runes is because guardian have a bad mobility option. That is not fixed by bad runes choice, that would be fixed by some mobility buff in owns guardians skills, no through runes.

For me, there is why stealth is broken:
Undetectable.
Spammeable.
Thief have absolute control over fight. They are who decide when the fight start, when to fight or when the fight is over. That is an awful experience for the other side, totally frustrating. Is not about who win that fight, thief is not overpower, is in a medium/bad place right now. But stealth is broken, not the thief.
Stealth need to be detectable (counterstealth mechanics or increase detection chance for distance or “x sec” looking toward the thief)
Stealth need to have internal CD for restealth, when you stealth ICD trigger and you cant restealth in that time.
If that happen thief need a buff in other utility areas (no more damage, damage is fine)
Epic defense at hills vs HoD and YB Zegs in the reset.
We kill HoD zerg first in a killzone in the lordroom, meanwhile YB zerg wait in the supply post, then we wipe YB in the same killzone. Nice battle!

Balance is made for high rank sPVP.
This happen in all games. Companies balance their games for competitive play, not for the majority of yours community. Bloodlust maybe is great and bring a lot to the table for high tier servers, decompressing a little the zerg fight. In mid and low tier is the death. More if you are matchup vs a 7+ rank server.
0/0/10/30/30 cleric is great in wvw in small roaming groups, but dont work very well tanking in front line zergs. I feel a lot more tanky 0/5/30/30/5 mostly pvt gear in zerg or with 5+ allies near you. (i am not talking about better, i am talking about more tanky one)
I play a lot with the 2 builds, and is situational. In solo/duo roaming healway cleric work better in tank terms. And in zergs or 5+ roaming groups AH ptv work better.
But the reality is that you must build what your teammate need. To synergise with them.
This for wvw. Idk about pve.

The warrior is pretty op right now. In wvw is practically broken with the massive power/tanky/cc/immunities-blocks/mobility etc etc they have.
Best armor, most hp, best mobility, best cc, most stability, best selfhealing, best direct damage.
And people still defend this… Warriors are about to kill this game right now.
Mine is lvl 80 full asc/exo too but im realistic, this needs to be adressed.Best armour?..armour is not as important as toughness.

best CC? Necro still has best CC
Most stability? Guardian has superior stability.
best self healing? Guardian has best self heals. Greater healing power and lower HP pool to refill.

Armor: You can build a LOT of armor because you have a lot of free vitality and high base damage on your skills.
HP: Yes, you have the high tier HP.
Mobility: Is great, only an ele can chase a warrior.
CC: You have a LOT of CC, A LOT. Mace/shield + hammer and 3 physical utilities and you have a CC fest.
Stability: No, warrior have more stability than guardians, a lot more, but for himself, guardian have AEO stability, not to mention that inmunity to immobilize by traits.

Lets suppose warrior is not tier 1 in any aspect (what is not true) ok, but is tier 2 in ALL OF THEM! Warriors right now is “all in one” profession, only need clones and stealth.
So I have these 2 level 80 character, both charr. I’ve removed everything they have and reset all their trait to zero and here what I get for the guardian vs. the ranger.
As you can see both of them have all the same stats except one:
Ranger has approx. 5k more HP than the Guardian?
Is this normal?

I am a roamer too. The map is great, good job for the team who design it, but the buff is an awful idea, who design it, deal with your ego and remove it.
I am trying to “roaming” but is pretty frustrating be outnumbered in small fight 1v2, 2v5, and so on vs a enemy with 150 more stats. I play wvw only and i feel this buff is not minor. 150 to all stats is just too much.
I am just going to trololo, no more wvw mechanics for me, no more capture or siege keeps, no more ruins points or camp roaming. I dont care, i am just to play for trololo, for the lulz. I am going to do what i want to do, no what arenanet want.

Yes Kincaidia, is hopeless fight vs kaineng, because their are JUST too much, and now buffed the majority of time. Our server is fighting for the second place (SF) and i feel sorry for GoM. In pasts match GoM has a great number of players, more than us. Now nobody of GoM enter in wvw.
Seems like Arenanet consider is players work to motivate players to play wvw to fight back, but no, is not. Is arenanet who need to motivate by game mechanics and maybe rewards (no stats rewards) to their players to play wvw.
Thanks arenanet, now is more challenging to recover our BD every morning from the night zergs of the most populated servers. Is to challenging to fight vs more enemies buffed with 150 to all stats.
Every morning few of us fight vs a lot of them to recover early our keeps and towers, that happen to us, and that happen to our enemies when we are the most populated server in the match, now is more exiting! Recovering camps and fight 2vs5, 1vs2 buffed enemies is great. I am not talking only for my server, i am talking from the low populated one in the match.

I dont remember if another rune x2 give you swifness duration.
You cant healing too much here. Your protection and help to allies comes from boons. Healway is great for that by long duration boons (search it in this forum) Apply CC too with Hammer and Staff. Is very annoying.
Sometimes i use in both healway and AH builds a Staff/mace-focus build, with trait to healing with symbols, that give a lot of perma regeneration to allies (double symbol traited to healing + regen + staff4&2) but you havent mobility, is a very stationary fight. Depend a lot what you need.
Timing your blocks and blinds, thats help a lot, if you run a GS/sword-focus roaming weapons, with retreat and 5 points in radiance trait you have 3 blinds (one is aoe) and 2 aegis (f3 and retreat) + focus 5 block for you. If you timing your blocks and blinds you can mitigate a LOT of damage because you negate all of it.
Another way i use with GS/sword-focus with my build (AH with nice damage&critic and healing power) is doing pressure with sigils of hydromancy, i run dual hydromancy sigil so i jump to enemies (sword2) change the weapons to apply 3sec chill and stick to him, them GS2 & GS5, G4 for retilation combo, jump again (GS3) and change weapon when swap if possible for another 3sec chill, this is very annoying to keep pressure in glasscannon enemies.
Use your pull (GS5) wisely, dont spam it, sometimes you need chain them and keep it for the best moment to pull them because some enemies cast stability intermediately when you use it, wait for boons out and cast the pull. That pull help a lot to your teammates.
I change my weapons choice a lot depend of my team composition or roles, choose your weapons wisely.

I am a kind of old gamer, from arcade times, when you dont get exited by high numbers, you enjoyed by doing something BY YOURSELF vs some kind of high difficult challenge or vs skilled players. Is hard to explain that to the kind of gamer who enjoy oneshoot someone because he stack a lot of attack and only need to repeat a combo or hit some buttons.
I am talking about the incoming orb system with stats bonus. The community talk a lot about winning team get more power even when they are already winning. And the problem with GvG match. And they are right.
But I am going to talk about another thing. Really, I really did not enjoy that buff on me. I am not talking about GvG, i am from low tier server (SF) there is not GVG at all. But, i dont wanna win because i have stats bonus. I dont know if arenanet design team understand this, but really i wanna win by my own and expect the same from the enemy. I wish the enemies have the SAME stats or weapons as me, i dont enjoy killing low leves, or enemies with rare/green items. I hate when i see players (allies or enemies) stacking bloodlust sigils charges and change the weapon (with orbs, someone can have 250 from this +150 if controlling all BD, in low tier server this happen a lot) for get more power using a bug…
You can tell me “go to spvp”. I dont like that system… really, the point capturing, that mechanics like skyhammer, trebuchet…. sorry, is not for me, i love open world pvp, where anything can happen, i like freedom in the pvp environment, because, the best situation, the most enjoyed and funny moments comes from that.
This is the end of fair duels with respected enemies. This is the beginning of someone point as you saying “you win cos stats”…
In low tier, SF has a big population (for low tiers servers) is something very boring when you fight a dead wvw server, and i feel sorry for them, because they cant enjoy wvw, is your work arenanet to do something for fomenting pve players to play more wvw in that servers, this orbs system is the opposed to that… is more frustrating for them. In some match up we have almost the 3 BD for us… what is the point to go for some descent pvp and get 150 stats to fight few enemies who are trying with a lot of effort to fight vs LOT of players invading your BD.
Ascended items, stacking sigils bug dont fixed and now stats rewards… i REALLY understand why you do each change and addition, but i hope you find another way for what you want… and fix that sigil bug soon.
Long time ago everything was about skill vs skill. Now is about farming and stats superiority.

You have no idea the effort of some guilds of players who has done A LOT, but dude A LOT for bring pve players to wvw? Serving in TS for helping new players, organizing groups, events, trainings NOT ONLY FOR GUILDS, for the whole server. The amount of time of these people invest in help the community to grow up…
You can come here to the forum and complaint about the population of the enemy without knowing how they bring players to the battlefield or you can do what ours commanders or guildmasters do, and promote the wvw in your server via events, gold, time and effort.

Help a lot keeping my buff up and doing pressure being offensive, i run dual hydromancy sigil in GS/sword, i can be really annoying jumping and swapping weapons for 3sec aoe chills, and healway give me the extra sustainability when i run alone.
I will use healway for support zerg, alone roaming and some small roaming group. And AH for front line zerg and roaming groups, i feel a lot more tanky with it

With basic wvw buff i reach 19k+ health and with SiN trait when i am in combat i have 3200 armor. I still need some infusions for 30% critical chance. I love a lot this build, i have a very balanced damage, tanky and sustainability with this stats.
Mace is already the best source of healing a guardian has, what it needs is a blast finisher on Protector’s Strike whether it’s struck or not and access to a realiable source of cripple on symbols.
Cripple on symbols would be great. That solve a LOT of problem in wvw for non-support/zerg guardians.
Mace is a great weapon. Very stationary, but really great. Shield and Scepter need a lot of love.
Hi everyone, i need some help vs some profesions i cant handle in small roaming groups or (when happen) 1v1.
I am pretty tanky. 19k health, 3200 armor, 3000 attack, 30% critical, 40% critical damage and 900 healing power.
Condi necros: they just kite me a lot with chill and cripples. I cant output enough damage because they are pretty tanky and i cant reach them (even with GS/sword). I cant manage the condition re-apply. I have a LOT of condition removal but is not enough, late or early i am dead, is matter of time.
Condi engi; same as necro but worse, they have a lot of CC and mobility. I cant handle the condition apply and reapply over time and they have a lot of healing.
Mesmers. I cant catch them, i can bunker some mesmers and nobody dies, i cant kill him but him cant kill me. They kite me a LOT, but A LOT. I am pretty good targeting the real mesmer, the problem is the kite they do to me. They jump back very often of go stealth. Some mesmer hit REALLY hard, and maybe one lucky with critical hits burst can shut down me.
I am very flexible with weapons choice, i run the common AH build for group roaming, with some variations depend which weapons i use. I am very flexible with food, even changing it in the middle of the combat if needed.

Dont go glasscanon to wvw.
Dont go with pve builds to wvw. any class must be tanky in zergs. Zerg win in coordination, positioning and buff/debuff timing and choosing it in the right time. Not in glass canon spam damage smashing all your keys.
Stay and do what your commander (good commander) say to do, move and attack as group.
Dont smash the keyboard for attack like in pve content, you are not facing AI, pay attention, a good enemy is paying attention what you or your group is doing during combat.
GS is fine. Is one of the best weapons we have.

Outnumbered! Your army is greatly outnumbered, demoralising you. Be careful out there. -50 to all stats, 5% chance to be feared when struck.
Add a “Go to PvE farm living world events until the next week” hint.
High populated server vs low populate server. (stable mid rank server vs rising low rank server)
Populated server with more players capture more ruins, so, more power, so snowball.
Low populated server now deals vs more AND buffed enemies.
Players in low populated server get frustrated by outnumbered and buffed enemies, go to pve farm.
Nobody in the develop team think in that? Seriously?

Please Devon, explain to the community why snowball a team for achievement something is a good idea to a supposed “skill based game” and not “stats for win game” because i even don’t understand you ascended items yet and now this?
This game is become about stats stacking in any form to win (broken “stack on kill” sigils, pve farming for ascended weapons, now this orbs…)
I know if for “incentive players to do something” but, there is “ways” and ways to do it.

Arenanet had a problem with his “basic & simple” condition apply and re-apply system from the beginning (no resilience, reapply time, amount limit, damage reduction, only one stats needed… is just black or withe, remove or not, cancel all or die by them). People realize that when this meta begun and you can spam and reapply it freely.
What they do about it? Released rune of perplexity and dire gear (condition/thougness/vitality).
Best solution ever. Now condition is just broken as hell. You deal with tanky condition bunker with a lot of confusion stacks spam.
Not expect any logic nerf to it soon.
