It depends on your gear as well sometimes. Most rangers/druid are not much of a problem but those that run bunker LB/staff trapper runes are very good at spreading distance. Yes I could catch up but that puts me at a vulnerable situation with less initiative or dodge.
Another one that I rarely run across but scares me the most is the same build but with full berserker/marauder. Their LB hits so hard that requires bl0wing quite a few dodges before I can get close and they always have traps ready to reposition. I can kill them if I catch them off guard or stay away to not get killed but I can easily kill myself too if I over commit and make a small mistake.
Most casual wvw’ers wants to have a bit of fun and reward. Blobing will always happen due to Ktrain. Ktrain blobs are good coz they are a good source of bags for a real well organized smaller blob.
I love them. It makes world completion easier and when I’m poor I sell the purple sieges.
What would be really funny is Anet decides to let thieves reset all traps from both friends and enemies so a thief can get killed by his DH friend’s triggered trap which had been reseted by an opposing thief.
As a FC player who plays mainly oceanic hours, the main issue both DH and FC side has with the merge is culture shock. Note what I’m about to say is not meant to offend or blame DH for anything that happens. I’m just pointing out the differences in the 2 server’s community.
FC community can pretty much be summed up as super tight, small numbers of people who knows everyone else. The only ones left on FC before linking are mostly very experienced wvw’ers and has been loyal to the server. One week after Iinking majority FC players stopped playing. It is common on FC where no commander tags are up at all because everyone pretty much knows what they are supposed to do. When a request for help is heard, everyone will drops whatever they are doing and help defend 99% of the time unless it’s too late or a better trade off in terms of objectives.
Sadly this is not as common as I experienced from DH side, since the last 4 matchups. There are only 3 instances where I called for help (as guildie informed BL getting wiped) and received them promptly from 2 separate DH commanders.
Often times when a certain DH commander asked his squad to stay on tag to go defend another node while in the process of trying to cap another, it’s not uncommon to see the commander and a few die horribly as his majority squad members prefers their reward from capping stuff instead of defending with the commander or “push”. I have in fact experienced the worst when around 8 of us rammed Bay north inner gate, went in and see around 4 enemies in front of us but majority of our side heads straight into lords room and ignoring the enemies. You know how it ends and this is not a one time occurrence.
The wvw strategy between the 2 servers is simply different, DH favors recapping from what I observed (I’m not saying it happens all the time as one DH commander has repeatedly shown that defending objectives is high priority, heavily sieging up keeps and towers and consistently asked for people to refresh siege and mentoring people when and what to during wvw). However most of the time it seems like one squad is doing their own thing in EB while another is doing their own in another BL but doesn’t communicate or respond to help even both squads are from same DH server. Needless to say some players from both server has given up calling for help in times of need.
I also noticed there are numerous “lazy” experienced (gold and silver rank) wvw players on DH side (some are probably pve’ers who just want to get badges or whatever for their objectives in other game mode like crafting legendary, etc etc).
All they do is follow a tag but doesn’t contribute anything, they don’t run supply after commander drop sieges, they don’t resupply for inners, sometimes they dont even build the dropped siege. No back capping supply camps or even resupply when trying for a lightly defended towers or objectives which ends up failing due to no supply for sieges. When no tag is up they wait at spawn point.
As I am on my thief most of the time, it irks me to no end when I have to build a treb all by myself in a closeby tower to open the keep walls and these people just stand next to me without helping but suddenly become active when walls are down.
The tl:dr version is culture shock and lack of initiative to contribute in wvw due to multiple reasons.
The ratio should be reworked and have diminishing return.
As a player who has crafted a set of celestial light, medium and heavy armor each and a pair of celestial for all the single handed weapons and one of dual handed weapon. This silly time gate should be removed, it serves no purpose but annoy the players when they have already accumulate enough materials but have to wait a month or so for their hard work.
The only good BoB used to bring to the table was the occasional interrupt or combo stealth and might stacking for certain build. Stealth gyro basically makes it redundant.

As a thief main player, I would lean towards using berserker for pve and hot content. The resistance and heal per second uptime, the dps output, the boons and the mobility are all superior.
Too fat, can’t swim. Stoneform makes you sink to the bottom, can’t even self rez in water. That’s why
I use acrobatic, trickery and daredevil tree at the moment in wvw with cnd for stealth only. Pretty fun when fighting against any other profession even other d/p thief. But there’s a small chance you get dropped by a zerker thief or mesmer in a second if u aren’t aware they are around.
HeII no to one-shotting. It’s no fun dropping someone and getting dropped in a second when playing a thief. I wouldn’t want my fight against another thief leaving it all to chances of who spotted who first and opening from stealth.
Or make it possible for these Tomes to be exchanged for other tokens or currencies.
If you enjoy wvw, just go in and play with what you have atm and adjust your gear accordingly to how u fare. Instead of getting full zerker like every super pro thief suggested, try instead using a combo of gears so hit certain stats such as X% of precision, etc etc depending on your build. As you get better you will know what stats you want on your gear to match ur build and play style then play with build editor and start crafting your ascended.
No comments on raid or dungeon but it is super fun in wvw

Thief is my first character and always any rogue like class in any other game. I say stick with it and make/play YOUR build. Many people says d/p is the best at the moment, with what it offers I tend to agree with this but I am one of those few people who sucked badly at d/p mainly due to slow ping and other unknown reasons at least to myself so i run s/d atm. The thief profession is basically a low floor high ceiling skill profession. A same build played by a good player vs a bad player makes a huge difference. With what the profession has to offer, initiative based and stealth and teleport, it all depends on the player to make the best of it.
How did the mesmer nerf the stupid hole?

You guys didn’t get the memo? Resistance is supposed to be Rev’s thing, guess who can stack it to almost perma resistance and have the greatest heal over time in the game. Reroll to that profession…
The only thing I ask for is for the energy to not be reset to 50 when swapping legends. It’s quite gamebreaking when fighting against a condi build when I need to swap to mallyx for utility 7 for the resistance. Im either stuck in autoattack for energy to regenerate so i can apply resistance again or i use my attack skills and die to condi in a very short time. Utility 7 is very good when pulling condi from teammates and get a very long resistance buff duration but in 1v1 it’s very very lacking even when traited for max resistance duration.

Honestly the best name for the specialization should be “ROUGE” not Rogue coz ROUGE reminds a lot of us that other game that we play. The name and the datamined staff skills and utilities fit so well coz it looks like a STUNLOCK build is possible…. j/k
With the current status of Shadow’s Embrace, it should be a baseline condi clear on stealth. Clearing 2 condi in 4 seconds of stealth is hardly game breaking.
Mesmer is pretty much the most useful profession in the game for WvW.

6. Stealth like crazy and keep enemies busy hunting you inside a keep

I like Throw Gunk, its great for shooting confusing bolts or getting chaos armor. Ice shard though….
All the male human characters would love staff because if it has the same animation as holding a GS, it totally completes the Billy Kane look.

I have been experiencing this for the last 6 months and nothing suggested help, that includes reinstalling windows and drivers, reinstall the game, repair the game, change to new router, tweak router settings as suggested. The only conclusion i can draw from this is perhaps the game server is not very tolerant of ping and timeout, where other games would probably resume and looks fast forwarded due to a lag spike, GW2 would just dc crash.
What minor issues i have encountered thus far are:
1. Speaker pop sound every time when launching GW2, normal during playing the game. Its like the soundcard has to be initiated everytime, doesn’t happen when on Windows 7 so don’t know whats up with that.
2. Black screen in between loading screen where normally changing zone only shows the loading screen, no couple of seconds blackscreen.
The artwork clearly shows the warhorn but it also looks like a sword on the right hand of the ele.
Remove Mesmer’s stealth but make the clones mimic every movement of the mesmer
The last tick on refuge makes sure u stealth even if u get in late.
Tip:
1. Be patience in dungeon when using refuge, let your party member dies if they don’t wanna be patient.
2. Save a dodge for inside Refuge when pvp pr wvw.
3. Throw a Refuge as a decoy and shadowstep the opposite way.
I don’t mind them being able to stealth better than thief, the issue i have is its now almost impossible to sweep a keep or SMC especially when there are 2 mesmers cross chaining their stealth. You are able to spot them but they can get away and still stay inside, while i enjoy trolling 10+ people for an extended period of time on my mesmer, their stealth is a bit over the top.
Generally speaking all skills which teleport should be fixed, Blink and the Ele one is suffering from the same issue and its drives me nuts when u happen to fight someone with aoe while on a bridge, its auto death guarantee.
Started gearing up my warrior and went to the easiest dungeon Twilight Arbor. Meets up with a thief, ele, guard and warrior who are all 5k to 7k AP (not that AP matters much). The thief started spamming me whether I run PS meta, I told the party i’m not and was expecting to be kicked but the warrior volunteered to run PS meta. We got to the wurms, started killing, out of all the wurms knock back, I was the only one who dodges all those aoe then we started killing the wurm boss, 2 died including the warrior and thief. Mind u we killed the boss pretty quick, the 2 dead bodies on the ground started spamming me “where’s the dps blaa blaa”. I take me chest n left group.
I don’t mind elitist group but kitten learn to dodge and adapt, if they are so elite they wouldn’t have trouble surviving the first boss of one of the easiest dungeon in the game.
At the moment, unless the PU mesmer is inexperienced. There is no way you can win unless you catch one off guard and your opening combo drop them (which is next to legendary rareness).
6s torch stealth, 6s decoy and 10 seconds invisibility and scepter 3 got a huge buff in direct damage. When i play my PU mesmer i usually stealth to them, pop torch phantasm, dodge to create clone, torch 4 to blind and confuse, if they swing weapons i block to apply torment, if thief doesnt swing weapons, i apply scepter 3 in extreme close range. Then i pop F2 shatter, while he dodge or whatever, i swap to staff, pop 2 n 3 then dodge. Its a downside battle for the thief after that, if thief refuge, i chain my stealth and spread distance. I run 2 stunbreaks, im either in stealth or im in chaos armor when unstealthed.
As someone who actually make both ascended sets with the ascended trinkets on both ele and engineer, the engineer deserves it more based on my experience in wvw only. I run p/s with bomb and wrench kit so my build 4/0/4/4/2 revolves around control rather than all out damage but with full cele im still able to spec 1750+ power, 650+ condi, 700+ heal without food and buffs. This works pretty well with sigil of battle and traveler runes which i cant live without in wvw so u can imagine a lot more dps if u run runes of strength or hoelbrak.
The ele on the other hand when build in typical d/d hits like a wet noodle until the might stacks starts building up but it requires a somewhat fixed might stacking pattern, in the end i just regeared it with soldiers and knights and it works much better. A staff ele or FA build would basically benefit more from stats focused gear coz of the playstyle of nuking from a distance.
Meta is the build that if you use, you won’t be called “insert name calling”

All you need is practice and a low ping connection. I upgraded my internet connection and went from a ping of 400+ms to around 250ms+, the difference is huge especially when it comes to teleporting skills and weapon swap followed by executing a skill which wasn’t consistent or straight out failed on the higher ping.
Rerolled to warrior coz warrior escapes fight faster than a thief and do damage at the same time
Don’t do FULL celestial. Just aim for stats you need for your specific build. I’m a big sucker for FULL CELESTIAL build, so far i have tried full ascended on light armor and medium armor class. They aren’t super terrible but you can drop someone way way faster running other focused stats.
Watch this get nerfed again. Other professions gonna qq about the stunbreak every 7 seconds
