Oh, that. You got enough of those points just exploring the areas and doing quests that I never felt like I was grinding to meet those requirements. Even later when I went back to get 10000 Luxon points, just to finish up the protector title, it was a negligible grind compared to the nightmare of ascended gear. Something you could knock out in an afternoon.

And yet it is REQUIRED, while in GW2 you are not mechanically blocked form anything for not having Ascended gear.

And no, just doing quests in GW1 (without doing repeating stuff) you would get about 8500 points (for Luxon), which is 1500 points less than you would need in order to progress. Sunspear also required quite a bit of going out of your way in order to get enough.
At least back when I did it around release.

Sure it was not really that hard or annoying to do it, but the point remains that it was actually REQUIRED, and yet people don’t seem to have any issue with it, while they have major issues with the non-required Ascended gear in GW2.

And what you are ignoring is that for many gamers, myself included, ascended armor is required by the the simple virtue of being BiS. So, again for me and gamers like me, the ony difference between ascended gear and grinding out those kurzick and luxon points is that getting the the points was something that didn’t take too long and that I enjoyed doing, while ascended gear takes way too long and I don’t enjoy doing it at all.

And something that shouldn’t be forgotten is that there may well be some people in the game that enjoy the process of making their Ascended gear. Different people will like different things.

I have so many alts I’ve been thinking I’d like to have a system where I can group them into folders based on location, profession, Order, level, or whatever. Just an idle fantasy that keeps me amused when I’m choosing my people.

Could you have included an I Don’t Care option? That’s where I’m at. I’ve looked at it and I just can’t find a position where I like it or dislike. Not how its been implemented in this game anyway.

Related to VOLKON’s idea of weather and daytimes affecting the gameplay:

• Changes to darkness are universal.
• Changes to darkness scale with the phase of the moon. Full moon same as now, new moon considerably darker (but not excessively so).
• Darker nights can then be used to allow for new mobs to spawn with unique drops and for unique night time events to kick off.
• Darker nights (universally) in WvW could alter strategies, encouraging activities under cover of darkness. This could be enhanced by reducing the range you can see nameplates in the dark.

I was really surprised when I first started with the game that there wasn’t already something like this. Some good ideas around the place for this.

Things should be able to go bump in a dark night while many mobs are asleep. It would really fire up Ashford and maybe the Maguuma zones. And I’d love to slog through the pouring rain. Don’t know what it would do to my graphics though!

I was there when Sclerite skins were first released during the karka event which required a ticket per skin. I spent 150$ and days trying to get 3 Sclerite skins for an end game look.

I only came out with 2 skins when the event ended. I never got a ticket from farming just 2 tickets from the 150$ I spent. I was pretty devastated after putting so much effort into it. In the end I just accepted the fact that they were supposed to be rare skins. After the event ended 2 weeks later I decided to temporarily quit GW2. Since I looked back and found how bizarre I was during Karka event.

I went to try out Diablo 3 and also play LoL again. Few months later now I am back and I have been in spvp for over 2 weeks now just nothing but spvp. I decided to go back to pve and wvw content. When I was in Lions arch I read some map message that a player was selling a sclerite skin. I was like??? So I opened up trading post and search Sclerite. I was so devastated when I saw them ranging around only 40g per skins.

I thought skins like these were supposed to be super rare. What happened?

I’ve hardly seen anyone use them so maybe just go with rarely seen.

In that case neither are important so it won’t make a difference. Its not really anything big to neg out on.

I guess if you’re an achievement chaser then yes you’ll never catch up. That sort of player is always going to be playing catch up if they miss the updates.

I only level through open world pve. I like it.

I also level through open world PvE- I am leveling my 6th character now- well I have another one sitting at level 42 but she is an Ele and I just get fed up with her after playing for 30 min.

What I do is pick a map that I like and just roam through it gathering everything in sight unlocking everything, running any DE’s that look interesting, climbing some stuff and poking my head in some holes that look promising- mopping up the hearts that are left over after that.

It goes very quickly and I always have fun seeing what I can do and not do on a character- I have had some really epic, unexpected battles and also met quite a few nice people like that

Yep, all that. I’m constantly running into areas and wondering if I’ve ever seen them before or if they’ve changed something. Its why I play these games.

And like Zaxares I find it can be too fast. I have to level a few up concurrently just to think I’m slowing them down. One of my guildies thinks that would still be too fast!

There do seem to be a fair few new players at the moment. You know they’re new because they’ll actually have a chat sometimes. The holiday period might be bolstering the numbers a bit.

You aren’t wrong. The more I look at these maps the more i want to know what’s there. Major uncovering at the 2-year anniversary with a smaller uncovering before then would be fairly satisfactory (for me).

Maybe Trahearne but since Scarlet is more current she’d be at the top.

The biggest flaw in this 2 week temp content idea of theirs, is that people who got bored of the game, come back to find that there isn’t actually anything new for them to do. There is no incentive for people who left the game, to bother picking it up again, because the game is 90% the same as when they left.

As someone who has played since the start till now, the game is almost in the same state as you left it.

So what? If he stays or restarts for the next update then he will have “stuff” to do. Two weeks later will be more “stuff”. Two weeks later and you get the idea. I’ve missed out on things in the game and I’ve been playing for a year. If he doesn’t like the updates or the way Anet are doing these things then at least he will know first hand.

I said it before – you can’t miss what you never knew.

I said it somewhere in the first 10 pages but I’ll say it again. I absolutely love this thread and seeing how much fun people seem to have.

You can’t miss what you didn’t know. The gem store skins will come and go.

Try it and see if you find something different that sparks you up. It been a while for you, after all. If you still find the game a bit blah then at least you can say you gave it another go.

If you mean tin-foil hat – not really, it was just an observation that ANet have a good reason to have input to the prices from time to time, even if they haven’t come out and said so, and just may have chosen to use it. Even if that were the case, I wouldn’t have a problem with it (apart from the obvious gripe that that I missed out on a lower gem price, but that’s mere frustration).

(Frankly, I’d be amazed if the code wasn’t at least written to let them tweak prices if they needed to; that would have put the whole economy of the unreleased game, and ANet’s income, entirely at the mercy of future player behaviour.)

Here’s one thing i don’t get it… Rift added housing with the Storm Legion expansion, 1 year and 8 months after release, give or take.
So what? How long after Ultima Online launched was it before Origin added player housing? Day 1
How long it was for Final Fantasy XIV? 3 or 4 months.
How long it was for Star Wars Galaxies? Day 1.
How long it will be for Wildstar and EQ Next? Day 1 for both.

This was pretty controversial to the DDO crowd as well when I played that. I’m pretty sure its got something to do with rules and regulations of running competitions like that, and how the rules are different all around the world. And within the US itself as well. Its enough work to cover all their state regulations without trying to get things done internationally.

I was always annoyed I couldn’t participate in these as well.

I read it as that he wants to get rid of servers. No servers, all overflows. Yes, you will always run into people and that isn’t a bad thing. Not always a bad thing, anyway. But I like being on a single server where I can hide in a quiet zone if I want to have some me time. Plus there’s other reasons I don’t like the idea much but we can stick with that one.

His idea is that by filling up the servers progressively, it would make areas more populated.

He wants to see “endless versions of zones” instead of the single servers we have now. That could and would lead to massive numbers of overflows for various maps. I don’t like that idea so I don’t agree with it.

I don’t mind the Living World concept. I don’t even mind Scarlet as a bad guy (girl!) I can’t wait to see how it finishes.

I very much doubt they built some of these things to never come back ever. I’d be surprised if the Bazaar didn’t come back, or that at GW2’s next birthday we aren’t reading about people complaining about and praising the Gauntlet again. Maybe even zerging around again for a bit. Or maybe they won’t put these out again. Who knows?

Maybe Anet isn’t serving your taste but I like it.

And no, don’t think I hate the other races. I just don’t like their looks, QQ I want an elf instead of sylvari instead but sylvari will probably my next race as they have the same height as humans I suppose.

I was rolling my eyes and thinking bad thoughts but then I got over myself and had another thought. Does the level of the particular area on a map have an affect on the stats? Level 5 gear only has one stat on it so does being in a level 5 area of Queensdale (just for example) bring all the pieces of your gear down to one particular stat do you think? Is that maybe what you’re seeing or is it just drivel?

And even if it were a North Korean based company, Arena Net and all the Guild Wars 1 & 2 Servers are located in Texas here in the United States, unless I missed my guess. Cause you know Arena Net is the American division of NC Soft.

It’s not necessarily burn out, just boredom from doing the same old stuff over and over and over.

I had the same problem in WoW recently, got to the point where all I was doing was grinding for better gear.

And before some bright spark says do what you find interesting. You are forced by the game to jump on the gear grinding tread mill just so that your character can stay competitive.

If two people are level 80 both have the same class and exactly the same skills at using the character but one has full exotics and the other ascended and legendary gear. Who would win in a one to one fight?

Now I don’t know how different the stats are in this game, but in WoW the one with the better gear would win. Which is why people are forced onto the gear grinding tread mill. Gear grinding is not fun, but what you do when not grinding can be which is why people put up with it until they realise the pointlessness of it all.

Looking at his list it looks more like burn out.

And if players want to have the best gear so they can hit other players then that’s their business (plus it makes sense). They can take the way the game is put in front of them or leave it.

I was just having a look at the map. Maybe one or two Trees (or three!) down there along the Elon river? Plenty of things they could do with that space.
