Necromancer vs Ranger for solo PvE

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: zakuruchi.4086

zakuruchi.4086

From experience, my Minion Condi Necro can solo a lot of things, even champs due to their survivability. They have naturally high HP, as well as passive heal from Parasitic Contagion and Blood Fiend, even with just autoattacking, you usually survive most things in open world PVE.

Rangers can do the same, but with more active management of skills for harder enemies.

IMO, both are excellent for soloing. Necro has more passive survivability, Ranger needs more micromanagement.

Did something happen to fractals?

We might need to clarify when the OP start having problems. If it’s after the fractal patch where they add new instabilities and change the Toughness scaling then it’s quite likely an established party would need some adjustments. In my experience cliffside in particular becomes super annoying with some instability combination.

However, if it is past the last Balance Patch… it doesnt change anything to the fractals other than thaumanova floor. So it could be one of the classes. Do you use a druid in your comp? If so, it’s probably because the druid healing coefficients are changed so you would need to change some stats to healing power to heal as good as pre-patch. Basically if you use a zerker/viper druid as a main healer, you would need to switch to a magi set.

Rune of the golemancer vs Ogre?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

zakuruchi.4086

Or, why dont you just buy the scholar runes from TP? It’s only around 3g each, which is a small amount if you’re considering gearing up with ascended for raids.

The point about ogre runes is that it gives you a damage bonus. Period. The summoned ogre is just a bonus. Golemancer runes doesnt give you any damage bonus, which is why it’s not a good option. For warriors, even rune of rage is a better option since it gives a damage bonus.

Bladed Armor Chest Acquisition? Verdant Brink

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

zakuruchi.4086

The selectable bladed armor box needs T4, but the bladed coat box itself is RNG based drop from night bosses. I have gotten around 8 coat boxes from doing random night bosses. As usual with RNG drops, when you dont specifically aim for it, it will drop for you :P

My advice is just to hop to VB from time to time, doing 1-2 bosses. Even if the map is not going to T4 there’s usually enough people to do Mat or Tetrad. Alternatively, if you hate RNG and is unlucky with T4 maps, you can get it from PvP / WvW track guaranteed.

Warrior gear help. Berserker spec

in Warrior

Posted by: zakuruchi.4086

zakuruchi.4086

If you want to do T4 fractals, you need Ascended Armor and Weapons, which you cant buy off TP. You’ll need to craft those. Material Costs for Asc Berserker is around 80-90 gold per piece, so it will take you around 500-600 gold for full ascended Zojja’s Armor + Greatsword. Plus however much it costs to level your Armorsmith and Weaponsmithing.

If you’re just doing Dungeons and Lower fracs, you can use exotics. Find “Berserker” in TP with exotic filter and minimal level 80. Or you can search TP for “Devona” which is a Level 80 Exotic Armor that comes with Rune of Strength. It’s cheaper than buying berserker armor and the rune of strength separately. It should be around 50 gold for a full set.

Massive damage in PvE?

zakuruchi.4086

Also do remember that the damage setup for some classes differ greatly depending in groups or solo. For example, the meta Phalanx Strength Warrior (STR-TAC-BER) build is a big DPS increase for groups, but doesnt add much damage to your own DPS. You’re better off with STR-ARM-BER for personal DPS.

I agree with the above posters on most of the points, but in case you want to start with something cheaper for solo DPS, here’s my suggestions for a starting point. You can adjust to your personal preferences.

Warrior

Armor : Full Berserker Exotic Armor. Cheapest way to get these are buying with Karma from Temple of Grenth in Cursed Shore, or Bladed Armor from Verdant Brink. Note that Karma armor cannot be salvaged, so dont put expensive runes in them.

Rune : Strength / Scholar are the best, but expensive. Rage / Ogre are cheaper alternatives.

Weapon : Berserker Greatsword / Axe + Mace. Sigil of Force + Air are the best. Bloodlust and Accuracy are cheaper alternatives.

Build : STR Mid-Mid-Top / ARM Mid-Mid-Mid / BERS Top-Top-Top for DPS.
Switch ARM for TAC for group DPS, DIS for faster running, DEF if you need extra survivability

Skills : Healing Signet – For Great Justice – Signet of Precision – Head Butt. Spam those signets for Signet Mastery stacking bonus. Use banners for Group DPS.

Simple DPS Rotation : Basically start with buffs, Dodge into the enemy, Headbutt to fill your bar, F2 – F1 – GS 2 (hundred blades). Dont interrupt GS 2 if you can help it. It’s your biggest DPS.

Guardian

Armor : Same as warrior
Runes : Scholar is the best, Flame Legion is a cheap alternative.
Weapon : Berserker Greatsword / Sword + Torch. Scepter for ranged. Hammer is also good sustained damage, but less burst than GS.
Sigils : Same as warrior
Build : Zeal Mid – Mid – Bottom / Virtues Top – Top- Bottom/ DH Top-Mid-Bottom

Simple DPS Rotation : F1, Symbol, Whirling Wrath on top of Symbol of Wrath. Move into the opponent when doing Whirling Wrath to get more hits.

Elementalist
Armor : Same as warrior
Runes : Scholar is the best, Flame Legion is a cheap alternative.
Weapon : Dagger / Warhorn for close-ish combat. Staff for more range. Both do excellent DPS. Lots of ways to play Ele, so you might want to try which style fits you.
Sigils : Same as warrior
Build : Fire – Air – Tempest. This depends a lot on your playstyle. The most important trait selection is Fresh Air if you want to switch elements.

Simple DPS Rotation : For fresh air Dagger/Warhorn, start in Air, F1, switch to fire, skill 3/ 5, when it crits switch back to Air, skill 5 – autoattack until F1 is available.

Cliffside?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: zakuruchi.4086

zakuruchi.4086

While you’re looking at the bugs, you might want to look at Cliffside and some instabilities in general. I enjoy challenging content, but right now some instability combinations just makes it plain frustrating instead of challenging.

Last Laugh + Flux bomb at 69, Toxic Trails, etc. Most of the frustration is a compound of small area + area denial instab + high enemy number + effects that scale with enemy numbers. Either lower the enemy spawn rate, or just dont combine some of those on Cliffside in particular.

Cliffside seems to get a lot of bugs from this new patch. The out of combat is bugged with Cliffside 69 too. Flux bombs keep bombing even when there are no enemies around, and people cant respawn even when the other party members arent in combat.

On a side note, Devs, you might want to have a look at cliffside 69. It’s a tad too frustrating at the moment, with Last Laugh + Flux Bomb and tons of enemies on the cramped area.

Mordrem husks have high toughness (noted under their hp bar), which means they resist power/direct damage quite well, but weak to condition damage. The guy that killed it quickly could be running a condition build, which kills husks super fast.

Anyway, Tier 3 culture merchants are not really the best source for equips. They give rare equipments which are mostly for fashion purposes. You’re better off with Exotic equipments as they give more stats. You can buy those from the trading post or other merchants.

Also, if you would like to get high damage, you would need to be focused on your stat build. For power build, Berserker / Assassin stat armors are usually the best, while Viper’s are the best for condi builds. What stats are you using right now on your equips?

VInetooth Prime needs better downscaling.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: zakuruchi.4086

zakuruchi.4086

Do you mean it needs better upscaling? From experience, when I succeed in killing VT Prime, it’s always when there are less than 20 people around, the easiest is when I run it with less than 10 people in total.

The breakbar seems to upscale rather aggressively with more people. With less than 10 people, usually only around 4-5 CC (or around 2-3 heavy CC like Signet of Humility / Rev Staff 5) needs to land to break his bar. With more than 20, it seems it takes much more (could also be because most people don’t bring CC, or thinks other people will bring CC).

Dragon Stand really could use some change

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: zakuruchi.4086

zakuruchi.4086

Eheh, my previous post may have been a bit salty. I was looking forward to doing Dragon Stand paths for exploration and the last few mastery points I need to finish my non-raid masteries.

It’s really discouraging, though. I did all the right things: showed up early, scouted LFG, joined a squad. That squad was on another map, which was full.
But, making one’s own squad goes as follows: make squad, people join, people see it’s not the huge meta map, people leave, map shard stays empty. I’m not sure I could wish for GW1’s hero system any harder than with Dragon Stand.

Hm.. strangely, the last few times I do DS, the smoothest runs are the ‘late start’ runs. I park one of my alts at DS, and when I log in, it’s 1:30 left on the timer and the meta just started, comms are still organizing. I just join the late run hoping to just grab some nox pods without really hoping to finish the meta. Surprisingly, the late run finish relatively smoothly, taking 40 mins or so till MoM dead and no blighting tower reset required.

Since then I somewhat noticed that from my last 10 DS runs or so, the late runs usually takes around 45-1 hour, while the ones that start on the mark usually finish at 1 hour or so. It’s also usually less drama and finger pointing on the late runs. Not sure why this is the case. Perhaps people bringing their A-game because of the tighter time constraint?

Point is, if there are enough people hanging around in your instance of DS and just spamming to join a full map, its better to organize with what you have and do a late start run on your instance. Most of the time you still have enough time to finish the run anyway. Even if you just finish the escort phase, the nox pods near each WP makes a decent consolation prize.

Too many one shot kills in dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: zakuruchi.4086

zakuruchi.4086

You said ‘too many’ one shot kills in dungeons. Ok, let’s go through this slowly rather than just making blanket statements.

Which dungeon? You’re saying level 30, so it’s probably Ascalonian Catacombs.

Next one is, what class, build, level, and equip are you using? Things that are one shot killing you as a zerk Ele might not kill you on Warrior. Equip also matters a lot, especially due to downscaling in lower level dungeons. As mentioned before, a level 35 with all level 35 gear will do much better than a level 60 with level 40 gear due to downscaling.

The last one, is, which attacks? Unless you’re very underleveled, only some bosses will one hit kill you, and only on some attacks. In AC, the probable culprits are :

1. Spider Queen : The high damage attack for SQ is its ground based AoE. This shouldn’t one-shot you, but since it’s a ticking AoE staying in it for more than a few seconds will kill you. Keep an eye on red circles on the floor and stay out.

2. Kholer : Spin Attack will likely kill anyone caught in it if they didnt dodge out after the first hit. Watch the tell (raised sword, glowy aura), count 1-2-dodge. Alternatively, skip him (Kholer is an optional boss for every path)

3. Troll. Random optional boss. The stomp will likely one shot people. It’s easily telegraphed since he jumps way high before stomping. You can skip him since he’s a bonus boss.

4. Rumblus : Falling rocks. Staying under Grast’s bubble protects you from it. Alternatively, pull him away from the lowered area so you dont get hit by falling rocks.

Other than that i dont think any other AC enemy has one hit kill moves. Those listed are only used once in a while and you can dodge them. Not exactly ‘too many’ one hit kills if it’s only a few moves is it?

I belive he is possible to kill but now every body moved on to your new map.. could you nerf the boss in order to be possible to kill him with 20 ppl because each time I try, I have 20 or less ppl with me

It’s doable with less than 20. Last time i did it, it’s only with 5-10 people around. The thing about VT Prime is that you really need to CC him when the breakbar comes out. 5-10 people that knows what theyre doing and bring lots of CC is much better against VT Prime than a zerg that just autoattacks as the breakbar scales with people. It’s the same with the wyverns.

As stated above bya few people, likely not a bug. What you need to do (as hinted by canach and marjory) is to get close to the stone, have a line tethered to you from the stone, and pass it through the bloodstone elemental’s shield. I think Marjory said something like ‘anything caught in its line gets their magic drained’.

To make it easier to move while tethered, you need to use the counter magic special action (pops up near your F1 skills). Once it’s activated, you can move at your normal move speed while still carrying the tethered beam.

If that was their intention, it backfired, as after the first day i have yet to see a map that is even interested in spawning him, much less fighting him. If it’s going to make average players realize something, it would be that this boss is definitely beyond their reach.

Huh, weird I find it the other way around. First day there’s rarely a spawn of the Guardian. Yesterday every chain of Jade Constructs lead to the Guardian (and killed it easily). I suspect it’s because people now know what they’re doing, and more importantly, know that the JC – Guardian event is a chain, and is a good source of Blood Ruby (+ achievement). This results in people dropping anything else they’re doing when someone calls the event on Map chat and comes rushing in.

The whole time I dont see anyone saying he’s hard or out of reach, just that it’s too easy. Anyway, it seems like you have to kill all 5/6 JC in a row before the Guardian spawns.

zakuruchi.4086

It works, though not optimal DPS-Wise, but close to it. The extra precision is very welcome as Guards dont have that much Prec/Crit chance increase from traits. The extra HP is kind of significant too due to the low initial HP pool.

As for cheapest way… do you need Exotic or Ascended? Either way for armor and weapon you have to craft it. Exotic Marauders are actually cheaper than Exo berserkers at the moment. So is the ascended version.

For accessories, exo version needs to be crafted, while for ascended version, you can get the ring and backpack from the Blood Ruby vendor in Bloodstone Fen, amulet from HoT story achievements.

The QOL changes are really nice. The fractal changes is also good. The new Chaos Isles fractal reuse old assets, but doesnt feel that way. Kudos to the frac team.

The Bloodstone Fen map has a great ambient feel of being creepy/chaotic, but it is also a bit too mob-heavy at places. Not that the mobs are hard, but it makes it hard to just explore for people who wants the exploration aspect. Perhaps consider to accommodate the explorable map aspect on the next new map?

The fractal agony change is good to simplify things, but the amulet situation is a bit wonky. Agony infusion over +13 is also non salvageable right now, that needs to be addressed.

Unless you have +15 infusions or something… at which point better wait till anet allows breaking down the high plus infusions.

As someone who has been doing daily T4 for a while now and previously climbed through from level 50 to 100 fractal by fractal it is really obnoxious to sign on and have your AR knocked off. And then basically be told go spend your money on the market.
There was a lot of time, effort, and gold put into hitting 150+ AR (I play guard main) and to have it wiped away with no ready exchange to make me level 100 ready again is a real slap in the face.
Thank you for rewarding the players who play your content in such a fashion.

You dont spend money. You actually make a profit breaking some of your 10/11’s to 9’s and replacing the VSI +7s with those. The VSI7s can be refunded to frac relics, and you should have leftover Agony infusions which can be sold to more than recoup your extractor cost.

Thank you for this map. I got a late start playing Heart of Thorns. I’m going to try this soon! I hope it works for me. I’ve been trying for a few days to get to Dragons Stand, with no luck. There is a way to fly there, but one needs level 6 gliding. I’m only at level 3, don’t want to wait. I’ll report back and let you know if I’ve gotten there. I really want to go to tame a tiger. :-)

If you have nuhoch wallows, the easiest way would be go to the wallows west of the starting WP, then go up the tunnels to another wallow to Teku Nuhoch. From Teku Nuhoch, take the wallow to Nuhoch Lane, then follow the tunnel south to Ley Line Confluence waypoint.

Once you get there, it’s just a straight run to the west (Ogre Lane), dodging past chaks and mordrem until you get to Dragon’s Passage.

Need a step by step guide on infusions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: zakuruchi.4086

zakuruchi.4086

Good explanation by hornswroggle. I’d just like to add some notes :

1. For most people, it’s easier to start building AR from ascended rings first than ascended armor. This is because those rings drop from fractals (even the 1-20 where you dont need AR), and can be bought with Pristine Fractal Relics which drops from daily fractal chests.

2. For ascended backpack, the cheapest one to use for Fractals is Mawdrey. This is because it is cheaper to infuse mawdrey than other ascended backpacks. (10 pile of crystaline dust instead of 250 ecto)

3. When underwater, your aquabreather replaces your helmet. Keep this in mind when doing underwater fractal to ensure you have enough AR for the fractal.

Best Map for Maguuma XP?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

zakuruchi.4086

Does DS give a decent amount of gold?

DS gives a decent amount of gold from the Noxious Pod drops. Not as big a chunk as AB, but still decent, especially if you’re lucky enough to get a commander’s recipe book or a Berserker Mordrem weapon. The armor recipes go from 40-100 gold, while the Mordrem Saber can go for around 400 gold. Even without the rare drops, it’s a decent drop rate of items and containers.

Although it has been mentioned that if the map fails, you dont get the big chest at the end, the big chunk of XP is on the escort phase before the towers. This is almost always completed. Since the spring update, the Nox Pods neat the waypoints are also spawned after each escort side event is completed, so even maps that fail at towers/boss also give a decent amount of drops and XP.

For gold, it’s AB, but the drops are concentrated on the loot phase only.

If you just need XP and you cant find a good DS/AB map due to play time, VB day event chain or night defense with killstreak booster is also a good source of XP. These are less time dependent than DS/AB.

For pure XP, DS is the highest if you join from the start of the meta. It’s basically non-stop event for around 1 hour with a linear path.

You’d need to join early, though. Use map timers and be on the lookout for LFG at least 5 mins before the start of meta. Over 10 minutes in, the first map is usually full.

The trick about SS it you need to make good use of a combination of the skills. not just 3,2, or 1, but 3 followed by glide then 2 or 1 followed glide – 2, then cancel 2. This results in a long dash in the air, where you dont find any collision with ground objects (usually). If you spend a lot of time climbing or colliding with random hitches on the ground, you might be doing it wrong. As someone said, it’s not a jumping puzzle, it’s a gliding puzzle.

There has been no distance nerf for skill 3 in SS, but you do need to turn on lock ground target in max range, and need to know the general direction where you can target it.

For Core Tyria, the Current event (Leyline / bandit) gives tome of tyrian mastery, which is a good chunk of XP and most are quite easy to do. Other than that, fractals are quite fast and gives good XP as well.

I usually use Mace/Warhorn on swap for condi clears (Quick Breathing) and additional CC / Block if required. Axe/Mace for fractal bosses that doesnt require extra condi cleansing, Rifle for when you just have to range.

As I remember it, you can. ‘Outpost : Pact Encampment’ has its own achievement (‘Pact Camper’) , and that one has ticks of each event.

Cheapest asc backpiece is Fractal Capacitor if you do fractals.

The order backpieces are also not that expensive, but you do need to buy full set of order armors and finish the HoT story.

However, if you plan to do the higher fractals, i recommend you get Mawdrey instead. It’s not that expensive either, just a lot of timegates (and buying some LS2 content). The upside though, upgrading Mawdrey to infused for upper fractals is much cheaper than other backpieces as it doesnt require 250 glob of ectoplasm like other backs.
