If you have changed your password after September 12, no. If you still use a password you created before September 13, you will have to change it. Pretty straight forward.

I’d like you to look at the system in place in Fractals with regards to Fractal Weapons. Your designer mind should see something wrong.

In the case of fractals, there is a different reward system in place for obtaining the skins and the items there. It is not the same as the dungeon reward scheme, because fractals serve a different purpose than dungeons.

I will also mention that I am not the authority on reward schemes – I see trends, play the game, experience the content, and and draft proposals to the leads and those responsible for reward structures. I have brought up proposed changes to the reward scheme for the fractals, but it is not my place to be the decider on those issues.

Just to clarify… The bug now is that the event won’t run, correct? The bug I fixed for the 1-28 update was to prevent the event from stalling while it was running. I just want to make sure this is a seperate issue so I can make sure I find the problem.

Bug reports do not equal support tickets. Bug reports are just that: reports of bugs that devs can review (and fix); you will not get any kind of response to a bug report. Support tickets are filed by going to the Support website.

Are you sure it disappeared? You have to be in your town clothes to use it. Have you tried switching back to your town clothes and seeing if it is still equipped?

Make sure your computer’s time is set to the correct date/time/time zone. The display of the dailies is using your computer time, even though the actual time is used to determine which dailies are active. It’s a bug.

Check your computer’s clock and date settings to make sure it’s set to the correct date/time/time zone. There’s a display bug where it will display achievements based on the computer’s time, even if it’s not accurate. (And the server, which has the correct time, is looking for you to do ITS dailies.)

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be ironic at all, I was being honest. I’m not 100% certain, but looking at the wording of the achievement, you have to “complete” a dungeon, which doesn’t really apply to Fractals.

I could be wrong, but it might because Fractals are “infinite” so you can’t really “complete” them for the achievement. That’s just a guess, though, so I might very well be wrong.

Interesting, so you are experiencing sound in the game, it is just very, very quiet.

This begs the question (and this will assume that you are running Windows 7):

While running Guild Wars 2, if you right-click the speaker icon on the Windows task bar and select “Open Volume Mixer,” does it show the volume level for Guild Wars 2 being drastically lower than the other volume levels? (See attached screenshot)

If so, turn that baby up!

If not, then another solution will have to be devised.

That’s odd! I imagine it’s somewhere. Have you checked all your characters and every storage bin possible? This doesn’t sound as if you were near a vendor and accidentally sold them. I just have a feeling they’ll turn up if you look in every nook and cranny. If not, contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page and they may have other ideas.

I do think the duration on Howler’s poison can be reduced a bit—it pulses up to 5x for 5s of duation each (so it can apply 25s of poison total) but the 5 pulses appear to take place VERY quickly, making it next to impossible to avoid the whole hit. That being said, I’ve managed to beat this with a L10 thief, elementalist, and engineer, so I don’t think it’s “impossible.” To be fair, I’ve obviously played this game a lot, but I really don’t use any crazy dev tricks or cheats when I test for difficulty. I found Elixer B to be quite helpful for taking Howler down, since it boosts your damage and hurts her every time she hits you.

This is definitely harder to work with imo when you have an elementalist for tune swapping as pressing ctrl forces your fingers into a lower position. I’m sure it works well for your ranger since pets hardly need any F key pressing outside of their skills / F4 swapping (while in combat). Or maybe I just dont have as long fingers as you do =(.

I’m 6’10 so I have some pretty long fingers. Ranger pets require more control than you would think (especially in dungeons/fractals), but certainly not as much as Ele. I have to use mouse clicks on the earth attunement because I just can’t hit the f4 on my keyboard at home without moving my entire hand off the WASD, and all the other nearby keys are in use.

my remapped skills (Use your pinky finger)
7 = ctrl+1
8 = ctrl+2
9 = ctrl+3
10 = ctrl+4

That way I can remain mobile through WASD while also using my fingers to use utilities and elite if needed. I typically mouse-click my heal though, so I don’t accidentally hit the key at the wrong moment.

So far, it looks like the account name>email address change is something that is only visible to you — other players can’t see it, so your account security shouldn’t be affected. That being said, we are aware of and tracking this issue.

Opening the Windows Task Manager, and closing the GW2.exe process will save you from having to restart. We’re looking into it.

This is not a common issue. This is not an ongoing problem. There are major differences between the Karka Chest situation and your individual issue. The same answer would apply to anyone in a similar situation.

Ah, sorry about that. As a designer I click my mind into a state where I see a problem and try to mentally design a solution to it regardless of its level of sarcasm. That being said, I do like item rewards, but there’s a downside to it in that it’s not always the item you want. There are other games I have played where I would kill a boss 20-30 times and not get the specific item I wanted, and I would just have to keep at it and hope I got lucky. I much prefer the system we have right now where there is a guaranteed token reward to allow me to buy whatI want… although I have been giving thought to a system that also reflects our personal story reward structure, where you could potentially choose one of three things offered at random. Again, just thoughts, but I’m always trying to develop better ways to reward players in dungeons.

There is a 15% fee calculated into the quote you are receiving, there is no fee beyond that. What you see is what you get.

Yes. The cost inflation of “luxury” items does indeed incentivize behaviors that then directly lead to inflation.

However, it’s more than that. Speculators can and do cause prices of goods being speculated on to increase due to the artificial demand created by those same speculators. The greater the wealth accumulation by the wealthiest players, the greater those players have the ability to manipulate the prices on the TP.

There have been numerous examples of real world markets that have been manipulated by speculators to levels that have nothing to do with consumer demand and consumers end up paying more for those commodities than they would if there were no speculators manipulating the markets.

As I stated previously, it’s worse here because there are no real world pressures to keep prices in check. Ordinary players can either grin and bear it, become speculators themselves, buy gold or quit the game. None of that effects the speculators and manipulators and even if things should reach a critical mass due to a player exodus from the game, causing the in game markets to collapse, they don’t lose anything other than imaginary money.

Inflation in this game is not because ordinary players are earning too much money. The same can be said about the US economy. Lower and middle income earners have seen wage stagnation or deflation over the past decade or more, yet real inflation has been increasing steadily. Ordinary Americans are not driving inflation, they are just getting by with less and less for every hour worked.

The same thing is happening in GW2.

When players that play actual game content see their earning rate remain stagnant, while the price of goods increases rapidly on the TP, then there is something wrong with the economy. When players feel they either need to play the market for profit or buy gold just to afford to play the game, there is something wrong with the economy.

The 15% “tax” on TP sales and the listing fee are gold sinks, but it’s still a much lower “tax” than in game gold sinks impose on players who actually play game content to earn currency. Not only can you earn a lot more money per hour playing the TP than playing game content, but you get to keep a much higher percentage of your earnings.

Scarcity just increases inflation. It isn’t a hedge against inflation. It also creates the environment for speculators and manipulators to earn the currency needed to truly demolish the economy.

Tightening supply of costly goods just rewards speculators, while making life more difficult for people just trying to play the game.

Centrally managed economies have no place in the real world, but if you are going to have a full time economist running your in game economy, that’s exactly what you would want. Tuning of supply, (and money sinks), to ensure that prices remain in a narrow range and limiting the opportunities for speculators and manipulators to push inflation.

I can see the value of a game that is an economic simulator, but that is not this game and the current economics of GW2 seem destined to eventually ruin the play experience of many players, seemingly just to preserve the right of the few to enjoy the role of market profiteers.

Several people made some really good posts explaining why what you think is wrong. This is really long diatribe with even more misunderstanding of economic theory and economic terminology. It’s time to sit back, do a bit of research and come up with a reasonable argument for what you are trying to say.

Let’s get back to the original topic. The OP was asking about stopping manipulators I believe, but there is two different ideas going on. One is the general term, and one is the price of precursors. Which are we speaking of?

Our token system for dungeons allows you to exchange and get things, and tokens are guaranteed at the end of each dungeon path. Events give out karma and currency, which can be used to buy things as well. Or are you implying a guaranteed item reward system, instead of a currency/token exchange reward system?

Hi mokou – Thanks for the Game Advisor report. I apologize for the wall of text in advance, but I’d like to rule out the possibility that there is another program interfering with the game connection. To do this, we use a Windows command called “MSCONFIG.”

Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up.

To do this:

1. Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the R key. This should bring up the Run dialog box.

2. Type “MSCONFIG” without the quotes, and click “OK.” This should open the System Configuration Utility.

3. Click on the “Services” tab and check the “Hide All Microsoft Services” check box near the bottom, then click the “Disable All” button. (You MUST click “Hide all Microsoft Services”)

4. Next go to the “Startup” tab and click the “Disable All” button.

5. Once these items are all disabled, click the “OK” button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again.

To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click “Normal Startup” on the first window labeled “General.”

Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software, mouse or keyboard applications or even security applications. Please note that security applications can often be a contributing factor to such issues. If you haven’t done so already, please also disable any Anti-virus, Firewall or other security applications for testing purposes. While we do not recommend running your machine without a security application, should disabling the software help resolve your issue we can reinstall it and work to configure the application so it doesn’t cause this issue.

Update for you, Teroras. Thanks to your ticket and others, we’ve identified a bug. It seems to have cropped up about 9:00 AM Pacific today. The Error 48 is what caught my eye just now, when I saw an email pass through about bugs.

The latest news is that a dev has coded up a fix, and it’s in testing now. I anticipate it will go live soon. How soon “soon” might be isn’t real clear to me yet but we’re working on it!

The monthly laurel reward doesn’t start until February.

This is actually a good thing, in general, although for you specifically I certainly understand that it caused you distress, and I’m sorry for that. Without looking into the case specifically, I would estimate that what happened was that the first response was given with the information available at that time, but that something triggered a second look, and during that second look the team determined that it was appropriate to reinstate the account.

Why would I say that’s in any way “a good thing?” I feel it’s a positive note that a secondary review took place, that the error was caught, and that your account was reinstated. It’s awkward for us that an agent may say, “Nope, that’s it—the account remains banned” only to see the resolution changed. However, we’ll accept that awkwardness (and ask for the player’s forgiveness) if it means getting a legitimate player back in the game.

Again, I’m real sorry that you had that time out (and the resulting distress) and I wish you well in your continued adventures in Tyria!

You are mistaking increasing demand for rare items for inflation. Wealth consolidation does not cause inflation. Inflation is a measure of change in the value of currency (in this case gold), not the value of rare high demand items; it’s only really affected by the volume of gold in the economy, and the TP removes it.

No, inflation is not only affected by the volume of gold. It is also affected by demand. Stuff get more expensive when people demand it more.

Take for example a character that makes -say- 5g per day.

The first x days after hitting 80, the character buys useful things like exotic armor & weapons, fancy food and superior runes.

This drives the prices of those things up. Plain and simple. More demand. The character may have the same amount as before, but when all players are all after the same x items (say Superior runes of Divinity), the price go up.

Sure, you need more gold for prices to rise. But it is certainly not the only factor.

Also… for an economic forum, few people here do not ask the most fundamental economic question: where does Anet gets their money?

They get their money from (only) two sources: selling games to new people and selling gems to existing players.

When prices of items, like dye or superior runes or exotics, are too high for people to grind for the gold, Anet makes money because a certain % of people will buy gemls to convert to gold.

And THAT is why prices are so high.

Not because players make them so high.
Not because of gold hording.

But because Anet sets the parameters for these prices (they determine the droprates, they determine the uses, they determine the altrnatives) and it is in Anet’s intrest to have prices high enough that people buy gold with gems.

Personally, I do not have any problem with Anet manipulating the prices of items, to maximise their own income. Someone has to pay the bill for this great game!

But it is odd that most people that post economic theories here on the forums do not take the most basic economic law of the game into account: Anet needs to make money.

Several people on these forums have pointed out why this isn’t true. Mainly, the assumption that this is profit maximizing behavior is false.
