Hi!

I am a returning player looking for advice on the state of the game (ish), basically wondering what ‘meta’ activities are happening. I logged in for a few hours yesterday evening thinking I’d find a new guild and ask them, but I lurked in DR/LA for ages and didn’t see a single Guild Ad. I thought maybe it was the population of my server so I guested on a high pop to try get different instances but still didn’t see any (yes Map chat was on!) so here I am on the forum :)

Due to my lack of a guild I’m looking for things that can be done solo (or easily pugged with no dramallama!) I am not really interested in the sPvP scene as I don’t have the time or inclination to practice and grind myself up to a skill level I’d be happy with. WvW is an option as my other half is in a roaming guild, but watching him on and off the past few months I’m not sure it really tickles my pickle, and the duelling scene is something I’d not touch with a barge pole.

Think my personal Fractal level is around 75, but I don’t like pugging stuff that high, and really I was only doing them for the backpack, so I’d want a more coordinated group for the final tier of achievements. However as I mentioned I’m a loner and cloning technology isn’t at a point where I could make a team of just me. (Though I’m sure we’d never agree on anything.)

I did a bit of Raiding when they appeared post-HoT. But after raiding in so many other games the past 10 years, I feel I’m past the point of being interested in them. Plus if I don’t have the people for a Fractal, where am I going to find a raid party?

I was thinking about doing some Legendaries? I know this system has had a bit of a shake up for precursors, so some advice on whether the journeys are worth the time/effort vs. buying them would be nice. I love following GW universe lore, and the stuff I did when they initially came out was filled with great flavour text and tidbits.

TL;DR -

1. How do people find Guilds now? (Didn’t see adverts ingame, most forum guild posts seem to be NA guilds.)

2. Whats popular for farming gold? (I have around 15 level 80s, used to do a lot of gathering; lemongrass, orichalcum, flax seeds etc.) Whats worth it right now? Are there champ farms?

3. Any general advice for a returning player? :)

For a friend it took 20 mins, we missed it so had to wait. Took another hour and a half.
Seems random though, almost like it gives you either a broodmother or the grawl, and the broodmother seems to be winning

Currently these steps are bugged for me in tier IV: – Combine Raven and Spirit (No option at hero point with vision crystal and primed raven)
- Tamed Spirit (Nothing happens at Heart of Raven)
- Friend of the pup/friend of the hounds (descriptions mixed, can only buy friend of the hounds from Danador, event drops hound trophy as well)
- Friend of the rabbits (event doesn’t doesn’t start)
- Friend of the Owl/Owl Spirit – (descriptions mixed, annoying to get friend of the owl spirit in its current form because event needs to fail and never does because so many players are there at all times)
- Friend of the Drakes (event doesn’t start)
- Power over Siegemaster (event doesn’t start)

Combine Raven and Spirit – You need the Tamed Spirit for this to work.
Tamed Spirit – You need all the friendship options finished for this.
Friend of the Pups – Yes, bugged.
Friend of the Rabbits – Yes, bugged.
Friend of the Owl etc – Yes, same problems with this.
Friend of the Drakes – Not bugged, just a long kitten timer on this one.
Power Over Siegemaster – Was there when I went to do it earlier, so imma say not bugged. Maybe a long timer again.

For me I can’t get the Barradin one as the vaults are always taken.
Should have brought a picnic to wait it out!

Just begged a guy to not kill the event leading up to this, he flat out ignored me.
It only takes 1 person wanting to troll to ruin it for people waiting

1) We need more resonant slivers – perhaps a lot of them – then a double-click will produce them (as was the case with the mordrem and evergreen slivers to make the respective lodestone)
2) As guild scribes advance – the system will ‘see’ that and award players slivers and/or shards with the guild mission completions
3) There are higher level vendors yet to be unlocked – Level 2 Vendor when I looked at the text I took note of the fact that it will sell some random items ‘related to crafting’. A further search did NOT let me see what those random crafting items might be.
4) The overall Guild level might have to reach some arbitrary level prior to a ‘recipe’ simply appearing for the scribe to use to produce the shards (after all – we are seeing other things tied to Guild level – AND I note that crafting for the scribe is limited to the guild hall .
5) There may be a recipe that needs to be unlocked/found at a vendor somewhere within the game that now carries that new recipe.
6) Does the shard need production by some other means (ie: Mystic Forge)

1) I have over 100, can’t click them.
2) I am the highest Scribe can get to at the moment, not recieving higher level item.
3) I will pop this upgrade when I log on. See if I get anything. (Unless someone already has this vendor upgrade and can save me doing it!)
4) Guild is level 20 currently, anyone else higher that could comment on this?
5) Possible, but why not advertise it? Hmmmm.
6) Tried to forge them, they won’t go in.

Beginning to think this was intentional to stop us grinding it out and to create a buffer of Slivers from the initial Guild Missions. When I contacted support they wouldn’t acknowledge it was a bug. Frustrating.

Yeah you need the exotic insignia to make the ascended one if I’m not mistaken.
It would seriously reduce the grind, removing the need for things like ley line sparks which have enough sinks already. Significantly reducing the cost of the armour.

Looking at the materials needed for Ascended Vipers Insignia, wouldn’t it be cheaper to make different statted Ascended armour and then change to Vipers in the forge using the much cheaper Exotic Insignia. Haven’t checked to see if it’s possible, also don’t know if someone else has suggested it to you.

Did people go into HoT expecting it to be cheap to do Scribe? I’m genuinely confused. They let us know that there would be jungle-exclusive items needed so the gold cost to get ahead was always going to be high.

I’m curious what you guys expected your experience of unlocking Scribe to be?

(Personally I at least expected to be able to level it! Haha!)

I have tried not put the resonant slivers in the discovery and the mystic forge, wouldn’t go in either sadly.

On a Basic material level, I’ve found scribe to be just fine. I watched the stream prelaunch and farmed a lot of multiple tier materials, I think I still ran out of wood though and had to bug my guildies.

My worry is that to create a lot of the second tier materials, you need the first tier materials to ‘upgrade’ if you will. So there will be less of a relax on things like the infamous brown pigment, as it’s still needed alongside the red.

Same goes for the resonating items I imagine, an upgrade process, so if anything you’re going to need more as time goes on, not less. However we can’t see that recipe yet so, speculation.

My main worry is my crystalline ore consumption. A DS takes a significant chunk of time, and I still haven’t figured out all the Noxious Pod locations. I’m happy to run the personal story for 40 a time, but even if I run it 20 times, that’s 800 ore. Between the new Legendaries and the mastery collections, I feel it was a poor choice of currency for basic decorations. Maybe I’m missing something.

Yup, and still haven’t found word on it. Sent my bug reports early on and then a support ticket a week later. Still no word on the fact that Scribe is 100% broken. It’s heartbreaking.

Anyway,
I just realised I can use my fused weapons on other characters too. This tipped me over the edge back into elation. Literally sat in my chair, flapped my arms, and squealed as my boyfriend sat there in horror.

Also, expensive/one time use back items! In fact I think I would be flapping and squealing just for back items.

So back on topic to thread… Even though as a player this makes me “lose out” maybe 400-500g on duplicate items, I think I gain it back in other ways (Halloween skins, Ticket skins, back items) ~ The initial fluctuation in response to the announcement seems normal if you skim off the usual amount of doom and gloom ^.^

(However, if ANet feels charitable and wishes to give me back that gold I’m effectively losing out on , Imma not say no. Mmmm. Haha)

My first reaction was to explode with elation too tbh
Many things were shouted like “AHHH * insert expensive skins here * ON EVERYTHING!”
Suddenly felt like the gold I spent on things like Halloween skins I was too lazy to get at the time and promptly regretted, was well spent. Now all of my Necromancers can have a Scythe for example and it wont constantly kill me that I had to choose between them.

Then I sat down with my takeaway pizza and thought about it. I realised that while I was effectively saving money in some areas, I was losing it in others. My addiction to T3 Asura Light Armour had proven to be my downfall, as I bought a new set each time my Elementalist changed build. I wondered if I’d ever see that money again, and doubted it, and it made me a bit meh.

Then I wondered if my GW2 town clothes tshirt was going to be in the locker, would I finally get to share that out?! Im now staring at my pizza box trying to decide if I should let myself hope and be excited. I’ve been hopping in my seat so many times before, only to be let down, and it does make me wary of getting invested in it.

Also, account bound dyes – annoying on some points where there are expensive dyes duplicated. But on the other hand, the Abyss dye i accidentally used on my elementalist thats never seen the light of day, might now get some use!

I think it comes down to trust. If this next month goes well, ANet is back on track to earning my trust as a player and paying consumer. But until then I’ll keep on being wary, and maybe finish my pizza ^.^

The recent sale on Character Slots has made me wonder why I can’t gift slots to my friends and family. Is this something yet to be implemented, or is there technical issues behind it?

If it’s the former, it’s something I’d love to see as I regularly wish I could gift them!

Ranger. Good low challenge fun if you want to play it ranged. If I’m on my Norn ranger my pet tends to stay on it’s passive mode in events, AoE and cleaving is not your friend. I just have my Bear and use that skill where it takes the damage I would take should I get into trouble. I would not attempt to take my ranger to dungeons. As for WvW I have a condition/regen Asuran Ranger which is melee, great fun, a lot more challenging.

Engineer. Not much experience of Engineer in PvE as she’s condition damage, and as it’s not my ‘main’ I wouldn’t take up the one condi slot with running an alt in a dungeon with friends. Haven’t found as much flexibility with the Engi, build wise. Epic fun in WvW and PvP, can go really quite glassy and still survive. Fun in outnumbered fights.

Elementalist. Hands down my favourite class, simply for its flexibility. All weapon options are good fun to play with, I recommend the staff as a good starter weapon. It allows you to get used to attunement swapping slowly, you can then move onto scepter/focus once you feel comfortable, which is currently my favourite PvE weaponset. I would recommend you try out daggers, as they don’t feel as melee-ish as other professions and are very good fun! Traits also allow great changes to your gameplay. Experiment!

She just wasn’t for me, so I decided to go do other things till the story moved on.

I remember a dev response once upon a time while people were calling for the ‘incineration’ of Scarlet, that the arc was planned well in advance, so while they were able to read and take onboard feedback, serious changes to it were impossible.

Do you think that we’ve had enough time between Scarlet-outrage and now, to see a major turnaround in content for the next arc? Or are we still in the pre-planned post launch era? Eg: will the next arc take onboard all the feedback they gained from Scarlet?

So a little bird on the MMO grapevine let me know that this was the final Scarlet patch. So I’m back to see what’s next, do we know?

I main Asura Elementalist. When I previewed the armour I had 2 reactions.

1. My heart sank. Disappointment flooded over me. Yet again, we have human armour poorly tailored to fit even the males of my race, let alone us females. I began to doubt that my time spent so far saving up my material list was a giant waste of time.

2. After that. Relief. I wouldn’t have to choose between my T3 and the ascended look. I can happily transmute it without a second thought. Saying that, I’ve been wearing this T3 for a year now, I’ve bought multiple sets simply because it’s the only one that looks decent on light armoured Asuran females. I have a set of priory armour, simply for story. But it would be nice to have a change.

Foolishly got my hopes up. Seems if you don’t play a humanoid character. You’re going to get shafted.

When we were in Beta…. even stuff out in the open world was actually a Challenge to fight.

That one time. In plains of Ashford. Zerg vs Flame Shaman. Me and my friends were in hysterics as people just got one shot (including ourselves!)

Ofc I solo’d it. Because you know I’m pro with my 900000000 AP right. Did all boss fights with only an offhand weapon, drunk as a skritt. Sometimes I stood on my head to make it easier, I felt bad for them. Didn’t need to use ooze pheromones because I’m just that attractive without them.

Then again, not everyone is Asuran. I’m sure all bad players were members of the lesser races. Oh I almost forgot to say L2P, that is a must in an constructive post about skillz. Roll a decent class etc

AP barriers are laughable. I have thousands of points just from my daily and monthly. Which really take little to no effort. Same with a lot of APs. I’m hitting 10,000 AP without hardly ever being in a dungeon or fractal. The fact that people think it represents some kind of ‘skill’ …. Oh dear.

Shehr… I should have known. Also I’ve never seen a bugged Teqqy either.

Asuran females are even worse. Brilliant hair, crappy add ons because they can’t be dyed properly. Huge disappointment after the initial excitement of change! Give us proper dye slots for hair accessories, and make some features toggle able.

Great example is the original Asuran female hair buns, could have been my favourite if it wasn’t for those stupid bows and ribbons. Just stop with ribbons.

Anyway, poor Asuran hair choice is the reason I’ve been bald ingame for the past 12 months, please, if you’re going to update hair, and make us pay for the luxury, at least let us dye it properly, it would be a start, and I assume a lot easier than creating models without the accessories.

I used 15 keys, and got 1 mini holo scarlet – i have to say i quite like the mini.

Couldnt sell it on TP when I tried though. Maybe it was just me!

Hey all lore forum lurkers!

GW universe lore is something that really tickles my pickle, as it were. My desk is regularly filled with notes about updates, implications, connections. My outlet for these is my boyfriend, who is doing his best to absorb my lore outbursts as I drag him around Tyria in a manic frenzy. Poor guy.

What I was wondering is, is there a lore guild out there maybe? A dedicated separate lore forum out there? (Like the roleplaying one!) Or even folks who just love talking lore who I can party up with sometimes, chat about theories etc it would be great to make some new friends

Tara voiced MANY characters, not only a pony. Please, show some respect for her work. One character has nothing to do with the other but her voice. She voiced Harley Quinn, Omi (Xiaolin Showdown), Raven (Teen Titans), Melody (Little Mermaid II), Dil (Rugrats) and many other characters.

And the My Little Pony bronies watch is not the same My Little Pony you may have watched as a child, but this is irrelevant for the topic.

Argh. I was merely voicing my opinion that what many see as a pro, I see as a con. I’ve seen lots of people say “omg I love scarlet because she’s voiced by so and so” – which I don’t think should be brought into a conversation about her actual character. For example, you may have a favourite actor, and you may love many of their films. But just because that actor is in a film, doesn’t make it a good film.

It works the other way too I suppose. I love Zojja, but I find her voice actor extremely irritating. Is that going to make me love Zojja less? No it’s that disconnection.

Is this making sense? My discomfort was that Scarlets poor character was being excused by having a relatively well known voice actor. I would be happier if she was voiced by someone unknown so people would judge Scarlets character instead.

My focus on the pony thing was because I had not heard of her before and that was all I had seen people mention. I haven’t watched any of the things you listed either Gabby ^^ – I’m sure she is very talented, and i wasn’t judging her or the quality of the voice work.

Re: point number one; I LOVE Asurans. Everything Asuran is, for me, what makes GW2 epic and amazing and fun and whoosh! So the idea of some vegetable in my characters lab is laughable, let alone her attending all the colleges, and allegedly ‘seeing’ the eternal alchemy. I find it quite offensive, lore wise. (Yes I’m overly invested in my characters story!)

Re: point number two; how to explain this? As a woman, I find the whole brony thing both hilarious and disturbing. I’m all for watching the programs we enjoyed as children, the odd episode here and there are great for memories. But it goes way past that. I find it creepy, I’m just glad I’ve got a sane other half. Well as sane as you can get!

OT: still can’t get excited about more Scarlet. I’m trying. Really trying.

You wouldn’t mind posting some pictures of your Sylvari would you skullkid? I really struggle to make them feel unique. That goes for anyone who has some epic looking Sylvari pics!

Id say it depends on your play style, I main Elementalist due to my penchant for caster classes. But I have played Engineer a lot too. I would say Engi is not as diverse as Elementalist from my experience. Once I found that one build one Engi, I have never changed. Whereas for Ele I’m constantly trying new gear, new traits, new tactics.

If you’re planning WvW mostly, and are not in a WvW guild (IE: not raiding) I’d go Engineer, it’s fantastic for roaming, has great escape options, I easily tanked 6 people + a supply camp. However, if you’re looking more at team play, Ele wins every time due to the flexibility of the combo fields.

PvE however, I would always choose Elementalist. That’s because I run a condition build on my Engi, and I would never take a condition build class to a PvE environment. But that’s just me. Ele has some great max-power options, as well as some fabulous critical damage builds. Having a set of clerics gear with you is always useful if a support role is needed, but I can’t say I use it that often in PvE.

If you were me? Make both. You’ll love both of them.

I decided against making the Charr/Light combo, as Charr + Magic is too close to Flame Legion… Unless I made some kinda Shaman with CoF armour and threw my personal story out of the window… Maybe. Probably not

Charr/Medium could be an excellent combo. Especially Engineer. Will look at this tomorrow!

Norn/Light – would probably go with Necromancer. I cannot imagine a Norn Mesmer, my Norn ladies are too butch. Plus T1 light norn lends itself to Necro so well… Will also look at this!

Sylvari… Hmm. I struggle with them because I only like them in their leafy armour. Perhaps this new dungeon path will award deadly blooms, which could allow for Sylvari creation. (Sylvari female cultural suffers a lot of clipping and bad textures sadly!) also I’m terrible at creating them. Terrible. Silly broccoli with eyes!!!

Haha and yes, ANet probably does love me. Due to long term illness IRL my spare cash goes on gems, I dread to think how much I’ve spent!

3. She just… Doesn’t click with me. I can’t get excited about “Scarlet Lore”. I took my boyfriend around Ascalon earlier, explained Charr history, female oppression, and introduced him to the Scorch warband. It was interesting, engaging, it meant something. What can I say about Scarlet? She’s some giggly cow who thinks she’s all that, hopefully just a blip on my lore experience radar. Quickly forgotten.

Neither of which is actually living story. SAB is a game type they stick in when ready to keep us busy when they’re working on other things and tequatl is the test for them revamping all the world events. Neither involves the LS team or actually changed the events in the world. Technically at this point of the LS tequatl should be dead.

Other than the fact, that a dev has already stated that Teq’s evolution IS going to tie into the LS in the future.

Only in the sense that they’ll change other bosses and say it’s somehow related, but considering tequatl is a construct made by zhaitan who is now dead….

Only dead to those who completed the personal storyline… I’ve been playing constantly since Beta, and purposefully not killed Zhaitan so that Orr makes sense to me! I thought LS was supposed to run alongside PS. It would make no sense for new players to join the game and for the living story they take part in while levelling to be after their personal story. No idea on timelines though.

OT. Cannot wait for Halloween ingame, only place I’ve ever celebrated it. Not something I’ve ever done here in the UK…
