[Concern] Will Anet actually fix the Mirage?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

Literally my only complaints with Mirage are that mirrors don’t persist long enough in the world, and that infinite horizon feels mandatory.

Idk why so many of you seem to be under the impression Mirage is just completely worthless and unusable, it seemed very solid to me, just different due to the dodge mechanic.

The problems with mirage:

  • All ambush skills except for sword are utterly abysmal.
  • The mirror mechanic is fundamentally flawed. Who wants to go chasing their dodges around the map? Nobody, that’s who.
  • The axe skills are weak, buggy, and clunky
  • The deception utilities are largely weak and clunky
  • At least 1 trait at every level is utter garbage

Funnily enough, these complaints are extremely similar to base mesmer complaints.

Most of our utilities are weak or clunky. Everything outside of sword & GS is weak/buggy/clunky.
The illusion & shatter mechanic is fundamentally flawed, who wants to try and maintain any number of illusions when they can be killed in less than a second preventing the damage from shatter mechanics to land in full.

Oh, and at least one trait out of pretty much every level of every spec is useless.

I feel like you could probably expand these complaints past mesmer at this point. A lot of classes have clunky/useless B.S.

We’d have a lot more variety if they fixed the base classes.

They can only be done if you analyse them individually. the problem with Mirage is that even when you try to see them with the rest of mesmer around, they don’t make sense.

Apart from sword and GS, we have other good weapons like staff, torch and shield.

Shatters might be flawed individually, but when you put them around a class that easily generates illusions and greatly benefits from shattering them, where is the problem? The problem exists with Mirage, a specializations that benefits from keeping alive extremely weak IA, but chrono that loves shatter spamming or core mes with their spikes?

And sorry, but the worst chrono trait available is still better than an average Mirage trait…

[Feedback] Axe and Ambush Skills

in Mesmer

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

A thing I don’t understand about Ambush skills is why they call them Ambush. Non of them give you the sense you’re ambushing the enemy.
These skills should have very short cast times, at most 0.5s, and the animations should be fast enough enemies have a hard time to react.

The best so far are scepter and sword, but again, they should be much faster. Sword jump is quite obvious and easy to avoid, it shouldn’t be. Staff and axe should also be much faster, and have different effects than their normal AA. GS is nothing more than an insult. How can you make such fail anet??

And axe skills, while interesting, they dont feel effective enough to substitute sword, scepter or one 2h weapon and choosing one of the so boring and underperforming offhand weapons we have.

[Feedback] Utilities, Cloak, and Mirrors

The utilities need to be buffed. Jaunt at 600 range is a must, it’s a freaking elite skill anet.. The rest, they felt interesting for their gimmikcks, but it is quite hard to choose them when we have such variety of good utilities.

About mirage cloak, quite good execution, but I felt it needed to be full 1s of evasion since we lose so much mobility.

Mirrors mechanic is one of the worst anet ever developed. Scrap them and integrate their use with the F5. Instead of generating mirrors in random places, open the F5 and when activated we get their effect. This should also aliviate the limited use of dodges now we use for defense and offense.

[Feedback] Mirage Traits

in Mesmer

Ansau.7326

Mirage clock: The new dodge is weird to deal with, but eventually we will get around it. I think it should give full 1s of evasion since we lose so much mobility.

Nomads endurance: Instead of more vigor (we have been able to perma vigor since ever) this trait should restore endurance with shatters.

Speed of sand: Again superspeed should be increased to 1s to match full evasion.

Self deception: Since deception skills are so bad, there’s not good feedback of this trait.

Renewing oasis: Condi duration reduction is pointless nowadays when lots of stacks are applied. This trait should reduce condi damage instead.

Riddle of sand: Not a fan of this trait, since I sacrifice utility or passive defense for meaningless damage.

Shards of glass: Remove RNG and limit it to phantasms.

Mirage Mantle: I feel protection doesn’t match with the elite. Mirage is all about avoiding damage and confusing the enemies, not tanking damage… Aegis fits much better.

Mirrored axes: The issues are with the axe itself, not this trait.

Infinite Horizon: Fine. A lot of people ask it to become baseline. I instead prefer to buff Ambush skills and let this s an option.

Elusive mind: Probably my favorite trait.

Dune cloak: Lesser trait compared to the others GM, might need some more damage or radius. Not a fan neither of its mechanics.

In an ideal situation, Mirage has insane condi burst, but in a realistic scenario that burst is much harder to achieve.
- Clones insta-die to cleave or AoE.
- You will often have phantasms.
- You won’t have all dodges for offense.
- There’s a lot of access to Resistance.

Mirage seems crazy for the numbers people get in golems (like Holosmith), but when you look a bit further into the specialization, it is clear there are a lot of issues, and some of them cannot be solved by tweaking some numbers here and there, they need deep mechanical changes.

Btw, don’t underestimate Chrono damage. They did some changes that became shadowed by the new elite specializations. This is what I can achieve with normal kiting, torch and F1 against a mob that kills clones…

Again, you people are looking at the wrong build type. Crazy condition stacks are easily achievable in normal games, with fast succession.

No, I’m looking at what Mirage provides that Chrono cannot get. So far, Axe, Deceptions, Ambush and the new dodge mechanic are nothing compared to Shield, CS, Alacrity, Chronophantasma and other things.
Anything else can also be achieved by a Chrono or a core condi mesmer. And, by thus, your so excitement for Mirage is just that, a mirage.

And by what Helseth said, I was right. You “silly” build is nothing more than the new core condi burst introduced with the latest balance patch. It might have more spike and burst with Mirage thanks to the insane combat mobility, but chrono also has access to it, and is miles better at all other aspects of the game (support, holding a point, team fights…).

Can you stop judging people for the way they play or the reason they play?

Seriously. Such an hypocrisy is baffling. If you dont care about rewards why do you care so much that others want them. It makes no sense at all. All you’re doing is pushing away potential people who could be hooked up while encouraging half afking from people who will get these rewards no matter the time grind.

Be happy the same behavior wasnt observed in pvp and pvp vets werent requiring everyone to retroactively play the previous seasons before enjoying the rewards of the current season. Would have been funny.

Arguments have been continuously given as to why the current system is punishing/unfair and all you come back to is that booo new players are playing for rewards. Stop it and debate fairly, without prejudice. Learn about how the other modes work with timegates and maybe you’ll finally understand the core issue here.

Yes i play for reward and yes I have fun with that charr guild I found and none of their vet is being half as condescending about their right to anything. I will grind the ranks but I will not stop pointing out the design flaws with locking timegated rewards behind a full job of hours.

In wvw PLAYERS ARE THE CONTENT, not rewards.

In any PvP game all that matters is the community, everything else is secondary. That’s why sPvP has died, the game mode is flooded with so much pve content that sPvP got full of people that didn’t care about competitiveness and the competitive scene didn’t have place anymore. That’s the reason why wvwers are so harsh over pvers, we want to keep wvw as it is.

The reason why people don’t want pvers in wvw is because they want WvW content: zerg fights, roaming, RvR, pvp scene… not pve. Why are pvers so selfish that they have to force game modes and their communities to cater their desires? Isn’t pve big and vast enough that now competitive game modes have to be turned into your desires?

Seriously, anyone saying they come to WvW for rewards or skins shouldn’t put a foot into it, is doing nothing good for the game mode.

I don’t see why any veteran WvW player would oppose changes to base pips, giving new players a little more incentive to continue with the game mode and hopefully help revitalize it. Our veteran bonuses wouldn’t change, we’d still get rewards faster than the newbies.

If these “veteran” players really don’t care about the rewards like they claim not to, then I don’t see why they’re even posting in this thread to begin with. It seems like they do actually care about rewards, but by golly I don’t think they’ll admit that. Would they?

A question to all WvW players opposing changes to base pips to make it easier on the newcomers: Do you care about WvW rewards more than the WvW game mode?

WvW vets care more about the game mode than the rewards, and by thus we don’t want to WvW to turn an EotM 2.0 where people play it only for the rewards.

Said in other words. Vets want people to play WvW, and get some reward for it so there’s no need to go to PvE to get income. Not people playing WvW to get some shiny skins… You already have PvE for that.

Seriously, all you losers that swear by these terms, go up to someone at the liquor store, corner store, or hell library (who uses these now anyways) and call someone a noob or the other kitten crap. Make sure to take a selfie with their reaction because it probably has the funniest “Wtf is this kitten talking about” look written all over their face.

In before some loser quotes this with a u mad bro comment. At least it’s easy to point out who’s a kitten in this game when they say something like that. Just shows everyone you lack any sort of originality, are as “funny” as Amy Schumer’s barn yard snatch, and deserve to have a lynch mob hang your ass from a cherry tree. Imagine my shock…

What a boring life you must have that you found the time to think about all that…

This is a clear sign balance team isn’t fully aware of all the mechanic tips and hints, such phantasms and boon interaction, of this game, which is a shame.

Anyway, none of these new attacks on phantasm skills are truly worth. Either their effects are a joke (3 stacks of vul on iBerkserker, AA on iWarlock and iMariner or slowmotion crippling projectile in iDuelist), or their mechanics are lacklusting (joke of range on iSwordman, small range on iMage).
So far, only 2 are well designed, immobility on iWarden and evade on iMariner (spear). Too bad the best designed are on useless offhand weapons.

Anet should stop doing this nonsense guessing design and should start to think in a cleverer and more meaningful way. Adding AA on phantasm activations is as lazy as you can get, and will they learn mesmer is not a profession to tank damage at melee range…

Related to off hand sword, with small changes it can become a true alternative to shield, WHICH WILL BE A MUST FOR THE NEW ELITE SPEC.
All you need to do is made it evade 1.5s and eliminate the block interaction, so mesmers have the choice to evade damage or interrupt with Counter attack. Also, change the might granted with iSwordsman to become an AoE effect on you for 5 allies.

To OP, both are excellent options, so choose the cheapest. For Gw2, they’re in fact overkill even at 1440p.

I agree with the first bit, but not so much the second bit. Especially with a 144Hz monitor my 390 (which is relatively close to a 480/580) is holding me back somewhat in non-CPU limited areas.

That being said, yeah, pretty much buy whatever is cheaper between a 580 and a 1060 6GB. Just don’t buy a 1060 3GB

It’s not the gpu holding you from getting 144fps, but the cpu and indirectly dx9.

edit to fix spelling and add pic

Rx 580 is not that great or good? And yet it slightly outperforms a 1060 while being cheaper…

Broken Mechanics When Roaming

in WvW

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

You are talking nonsense.

The classes in terms of combat were designed around PvP, go ask someone who was in Alpha, it was all about what Teldo & Co thought, PvE/WvW was virtually ignored in that regard because the original vision of the game was PvP was the serious bit, while PvE & WvW were casual.

Which is why for the entirety of the game WvW class balance in all aspects from blobs to roaming as been non-existent and why for 3 years PvE class balance was only marginally less useless than WvW, until HoT and they focused on PvE raids and started to balance for that (WvW still basically got virtually no balance consideration other than the odd rare scrap), it is also why back at launch when they did balance discussions on Twitch after patches (which you clearly never watched) the changes were 90-100% in relation to PvP, because that is what the game was balanced around back then.

As for this nonsense about roaming vs zerging, thief for example being broken in regard to risk vs reward when roaming is not “balanced” by being crappy as a zerg class, both aspects are simply the result of the game being designed around a point capture mode and 5 years of WvW largely being ignored when it comes to balance. (I’d also add that for a good while in this game thief was wanted in focus parties for guild raids, mesmer is still wanted, albeit in small numbers, haven’t fared any worse in zergs than rangers or engies, yet have generally, bar pre-nerf druid been better roamers, meanwhile warrior is a pretty decent zerg class and at times has also been broken OP at roaming)

And yes I agree guards and necros are broken when it comes to zergs, but again that isn’t balance, that again is simply the result of a game mode barely being considered when it comes to class/combat design and balance, time to wake up and smell the coffee.

Oh god, you still don’t get it…

It doesn’t matter if sPvP was the base game mode for balancing at the game release, thief would still be a high mobility class. Let me tell you in another way, if anet starts balancing WvW on its own, thief will still be a very high mobility class with lots of evasions that can reset fights. It doesn’t matter if design were around PvP or petting, thief was meant to be what it is, and when you put it in a big map with no terrain limitations, then of course it excels, because it is the supposed thing…

Then you still fail to see WvW isn’t meant to have a balance combat design. Because it is a hell of a task. The game mode has so much to control, so much unpredictability, so many variables to manage at the same time, trying to set a balanced meta is a naive task.
How could you balance zerguing and roaming at the same time? If you buff condis to make them relevant in zerguing you end up with broken roaming. You buff tankiness in roaming to fight the power creep and you end up with a disgusting unending bunker zerg style. You nerf mobility of thieves in roaming and they become irrelevant in this game mode, you give them support and only thief parties is all what you see in roaming. You nerf mesmer sustain and you end up with a useless profession in zerguing, you nerf their condi pressure and it becomes by far the weakest profession for damage.

It is true that WvW has never had dedicated balance besides the latest patch, but thinking it could have a balance of all professions in both roaming and zerguing is quite ridiculous.

Also you keep telling yourself anet would address low risk high reward builds if balancing WvW, and yet across all these years many powerful builds in PvP have been that, or you will tell me bunker guards for years, 100blade warrior, MM necro, turret engi, pew pew and spirit rangers or trap DH were good designed builds around balanced risk-reward…

Broken Mechanics When Roaming

in WvW

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

This right here, WvW is the large scale format, PvP is the small group format. Anet do not care how classes perform in a microcosm in reference to WvW. You just need to look at the Acro line for DD’s, how much condi mesmers kitten or how over tuned zerkers are to see they give zero kittens about WvW balance when scaling down to 1-5ppl in a mode designed for large group conflict.

That’s not true.

The main difference between sPvP and WvW is pvp is an STRUCTURED game mode, while WvW is an OPEN WORLD pvp mode. It doesn’t have anything to do with how big or small the scale fight is.

SPvP aims to have an even footing, it is designed to achieve a fair matchup between teams of the same size. It is a game mode designed around 5 men teams where players have to be coordinated to win, because rotation is a key part of the game.

WvW doesn’t have any predefined rule, as an open world mode, of how battles need to happen. In fact, the reason why roaming and ZvZ exist is because of that, because the game doesn’t restrict one team from outnumbering the other. It is designed around worlds with very heterogeneous populations, in a game mode big enough where people don’t have to be coordinated to achieve the goals.

There was no “design” as such at least in regard to WvW, thief (and everything else that is broken/imbalanced in WvW) weren’t designed for WvW, let alone roaming specifically, they were designed around PvP conquest.

And to take thief as the example in conquest, being able to reset fights is naturally balanced by the game mode, because there is a penalty to resetting a fight, the score continues to tick, your opponent gets the cap, decap, etc, so your opponent/opposing team gain something by a thief getting to the point where they have to withdraw.

In WvW on the other hand there is none of that (unless you are fighting over a camp or something), if I am on thief screw up or am outplayed by my opponent, instead of being punished for that as I should I can in most cases simply disengage if I want, it completely breaks a very basic rule of PvP design – risk vs reward.

And to be clear, before bad thieves QQ, the same applies to lesser extents to certain mesmer builds, certain druid build, etc, which is why thieves, mesmers, etc have always been very numerous when it comes to roaming, they are basically low risk and ez-mode.

Just one of the reasons this game is a joke for roaming and not worth the time for it.

Anet didn’t design professions around game modes. Anet created a defined playstyle for each profession. And these playstyles will suit better in some modes and lesser in others. That’s the essence of Gw2 profession design, and you have to accept it, otherwise I don’t know why are you playing it…

Thief is designed to have very high mobility, to be evasive and surprising, regardless of how the game mode is or how thief performs in it. This is the definition of thief: “They utilize stealth and shadowstepping to surprise and to get close to their target”. The fact that roaming is a game mode that strengthens the potential of thief doesn’t mean the design of the class is wrong. Because at the same time, thief is hard punished in game modes where resistance and group interactivity become more important, like zerguing.

And your last point is very narrowminded, because it only focuses on roaming while not taking into account other game modes. While you complain of how strong mesmer and thieves are at roaming, they also have the right to complain about how are they weak in zerguing, and how other professions are an ez win when bieng in a zerg, like guards or necros.

Basically, you don’t have a point because you fail to understand the fact that mesmer, thief, warrior, scrapper or druid designs are inherently better suit for roaming, but at the same time they are weaker in zerguing.
We can make the comparison that roaming with a necro, ele or a dh is the same as zerguing with a thief, mesmer or warrior. You will have a harder time because you’re using a profession that doesn’t excel at what you’re playing.

Broken Mechanics When Roaming

in WvW

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

1. Roaming has always seen condi builds that blast you with condi bombs. It’s not a new thing, you have to go back to early days of 2012 and early 2013 to not encounter them. Fighting condis can be annoying when solo or dual-roaming, but it shouldn’t be an excuse when roaming with 3-5 people, there is plenty of AoE condi cleansing across all professions. Just to let you know how old it is, condi mesmers exist since June 2013, and back then they were more annoying than now.

2. It’s not like blasting doesn’t benefit roaming, it’s it has unlimited stacking potential so the performance of each blast has to be small, otherwise blasting fields would be broken. But even how it is now, your can still take advantage in many ways like healing bursts, might stacking or group stealthing.

3. Thieves are designed this way. They shine at roaming, but at expenses of being the worst profession at zerguing and not having role variety. They are annoying but with time you learn to deal with them.

4. Warriors are in a similar position than thieves. The excel at roaming for having such crazy burst potential and mobility, but once the burned all their defenses they are nothing better than meat for lions. Again, when you learn how to deal with them they are easy to deal with, it’s one of the most predictable classes out there.

5. You are wrong here. Mesmer are not Usain Bolt, in fact we are crippled people against athletes. Mesmer are one of the slowest professions out there. They have insane combat mobility, but when they have to run or chase they are the worst at it.

6. Yes druids have a bit too much stealth, but 99% of the times people playing them are the worst players you could face. All you have to do is pay attention to overtuned pets attacks and then you will eat druid for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Because the players behind them don’t know how to fight.

All these issues are common for beginners at WvW. This game mode is not meant to be fair, crazy plays and overtuned things are a characteristic of WvW. And I have to say it, such thing is why WvW is so loved and can be so epic. Look WvW gw2 videos in Youtube, most are about small scale WvW fights from people killing enemies when being outnumbered.

With time you and your team will learn to adapt to how WvW works.

Why do you not play?

in PvP

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

The are 2 main reasons I stopped playing PvP.

Selfish experience that only promotes toxicity and where the outcome is committed to the luck you have with your teammates.

Anet did the move to turn conquest, a team based game mode, into a more individual experience, and I think here is where everything started to fall on its own. Conquest is all about team cooperation, if anet wanted a more individual based game mode, they should have created one built for it instead of messing with Conquest and ruining it.
This individuality has moved teams out of the experience and nowadays is all about solo/duo carrying.
Over time this creates a selfish attitude in the player base as everyone now is on its own. People has stopped caring about proper rotations, swapping, looking at map or reading the chat. Nowadays is all about who is the biggest hero.

And the current matchmaking isn’t helping at all. If it’s already difficult to have any sense of team based experience, everything becomes frustrating when such system creates such unbalanced matchups: 2 duo-quers vs 5 randoms, top players based team vs low tiers based one, 4 warriors or DH on the same team or one team having 5 supports while the other 5 roamers destroys any bit of hope left.

So in the end, there is no competitive need to play sPvP because there is no team competition. It’s all about how much you can carry, and your position will be based entirely on it.
Why I’m playing a cooperative mode then, if all I’m supposed to do is to carry my team, WTF? That’s the main reason I stopped playing in S6.
In S5 I decided to take it seriously, but after +400 matchups I already saw how dull is this, and seeing S6 is nothing but the same, I will keep my tush in WvW, where I can have proper cooperative experience (guild raids) and proper individual experience (duels).

Stale experience when playing the same maps and facing the same gutted meta for such a long time.

Let’s face it, sPvP hasn’t changed since the game was launched, it’s the only mode in these nearly 5 years (because Stroinghold has never been a thing), played in the exact same tiny maps everyone knows better than its name. Then you add the same meta existing in the past 1.5 years guttered to 1 build per profession and you have all the ingredients to make the perfect repetitiveness recipe.

We need a new game mode, Conquest needs 3-4 new maps in the rotation, build diversity has to be opened and the entire meta has to be nerfed so the HoT power creep is more balanced with the rest of the core.

Staff Mesmer is condi only?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

Staff is far from being condi only. But it is true this weapon is tied to a very particular gameplay style, and even in a power build you’ll play more like a condi build than like the traditional burst power build.

It is also a weapon that requires quite a high skill level to take the most advantage of it, so expect to feel a bit disappointed at first. But when dominated, the weapon can be very powerful in sPvP, WvW and open world.
Only in group content, like fractals, raids or WvW zerguing, it cannot hold the competition. Although its phantasm hits like a truck, these game modes are more tided to group performance where all the RNG, lack of personal DPS and lack of key support become lacklusting.

Some tips:

  • Chaos specialization works like a charm with staff. It boost boon generation and the staff trait makes it a more dynamic weapon with significant lower cooldowns. If you manage to add some extra boon duration and another ethereal field, perma protection is easy to achieve.
  • With chaotic Dampening, chain Chaos Armor as much as you can to maximize CDs reduction. This is a bit hard as you will have to manage Chaos Armor creation uptime not to overlap its duration (uptime duration doesn’t stack, if you regain Chaos Armor while having it, uptime will reset to 5s instead of stacking).
  • Learn Phase Retreat + shatters combo, specially with Mind Wrack. Unpredictable damage spike that can finish enemies in the edge of death.
  • Learn back camera + Phase Retreat combo to get extra mobility. Hard to learn, but specially hard to automatize. Also with Chaotic Dampening, mobility through combos gets more optimized.

Mesmer Balance Notes

in Mesmer

Ansau.7326

The mesmer is receiving a few different additions and reworks. Time Warp is one of the select skills and traits in this update, which is being changed to affect ten targets. Also in this update, we are implementing initial attacks on several phantasm skills, allowing the mesmer to deliver a primary attack in addition to the summon in order to provide a bit more constant pressure on your targets.

Arcane Thievery: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 35 seconds to 25 seconds in PvP only.
Null Field: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 32 seconds to 25 seconds.
Feedback: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 32 seconds to 25 seconds in PvP only.
Signet of Midnight: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 30 seconds to 25 seconds.
Phantasmal Defender: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 25 seconds to 20 seconds.
Time Warp: The interval of quickness and slow that this skill applies has been increased from every 1 second to every 2 seconds. Quickness and slow duration have been increased from 1 second to 2 seconds. This skill now affects up to ten targets. This skill will now apply slow through an unblockable attack rather than directly applying through all defense.
Portal Exeunt: This skill now has a 1-second recharge after Portal Entre is used.
Well of Action: Increased the quickness duration from 3 seconds to 4 seconds.
Chaos Armor: Reduced recharge to 30 seconds. This skill now applies a random condition (confusion, cripple, or weakness) to nearby foes when activated.
Illusionary Counter: This skill now evades attacks during the counterattack animation.
Illusionary Riposte: This skill now evades attacks during the counterattack animation.
Phantasmal Duelist: In addition to its previous effect, this skill now fires a slow-moving homing bullet that cripples its target if it hits.
Phantasmal Mage: In addition to its previous effect, this skill now burns nearby foes when activated.
Phantasmal Warlock: In addition to its previous effect, this skill now also fires Winds of Chaos projectiles at up to 3 unique targets within a radius of 600 of the caster.
Wells: Fixed a bug that caused wells to display their effects incorrectly while under the effects of quickness or slow.
Gravity Well: Fixed a bug that caused this well to be destroyed prematurely when used with Continuum Shift.

Warrior, resistance and boon removal

in PvP

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

You mean like d/d condi which you wait for warrior to pop beserker stance and you shortbow away then jump back into the fight when its gone?

Or simply use the trait that removes boon on steal when the warrior uses its healing signet? Then again to dodge until your hearts content?

Maybe the burn guardian which still works great in 1 vs 1 with warrior because once again you pop the beserker stance. Use your shelter and renewed focus when they go into beserk mode and time your F3 accordingly.

Mesmer should already win the 1 vs 1 condi version

Necro with life force will win the 1 vs 1 and is already the better choice in team fights.

Ranger has already shown to have the counter 1 vs 1 build to stalemate condi warrior

Rev…….. OMG you got it. Rev can not beat condi warrior. Jeez you are right warrior is so OP!!!!!

Anet can we please get a symbol next to peoples names so we at least understand there struggle? Like if everyone on the forum is in silver and bronze division. do you guys need some advice on mesmer? (pvp)

in Mesmer

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

I need some advice with a situation I experienced yesterday.

It was foefire and the matchup can be resumed with me between defending close from getting decapped by the thief and putting pressure of mid, while 2-3 guys stubbornly pushing far or being outnumbered at mid, specially our necro that wanted to cap close at the start, then insta died at mid and from then only pushed far.

The situation I want advise is the following, we are losing about 360-400:
3 teammates on far vs 3 enemies, warrior and me on mid, enemy engi at mid and thief pushing close to decap. I port there and thief backs and stealths, disappearing from the map. He isn’t in mid and I cannot see him of far because there’s a mess of 6 tags there. After completely capping back close and hesitating looking at map for kitten , I see one teammate downed at far, what would be the best:

  • Push mid for 2vs1 the engi, but putting close at risk for a quick decap and then 2vs2 on mid.
  • Camp at close to secure it in case thief is around waiting me to leave, losing a 2vs1 situation in mid, but at the same time knowing far will eventually be lost and enemy team will roll over mid and thief will decap close as nobody cares about it and I don’t have portal there.

We ended up losing that matchup 500-442 but I lost only 6 points, so the enemy had better average rating and resulted to have 2 duo-queue parties.
My team blamed the lost on me for camping at close and leaving mid fights when thief wanted to push far, thinking nobody pushed because it wasn’t contested, but the truth is I constantly anticipated and got there before thief.

Why players zerg and why it will not go away

in WvW

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

There are more reasons why zerguing is so famous, successful and desired, rather than just the way support skills are designed.

First there’s the common rule of numbers being better. Having more warriors at war tent to be a big advantage, playing 11vs10 in football has a big impact, a chorus made of more singers is more harmonious and can produce a bigger scene, a team of several members can achieve quicker results than a single dude or a couple, and so on.
Same happens in Gw2. If there are 3 guys taking a camp, it will be easier for your team to fight them with 5 players instead of 2. At the same time, the enemy has more changes to take it with 6-7 players instead of 3. And now you need to bring more people to defend it. It’s a vicious circle.

But also, gw2 has implemented 4 major mechanics that induce people to stack:

  • WvW is meant for big battles by putting structures with several layers of very tanky defenses and siege with insane range compared to class skills. Defense is extremely easy and stacking is the only way to have a comparable offense. If WvW was all about camps, zergs wouldn’t be so successful.
  • Ranged skills have a rather small range compared to melee skills and the dimensions the game is built on. Fights happen to be very compacted and developed in a rather small area for these reasons. Ranged pressure being limited to 1200 range and often at only 900 when melee is 130-200 in a battleground of several thousands, forces offensive players to be very exposed and support is required around them. That or the offense comes from the melee itself, which is what we see now.
  • No body-block. Without it, there is no limitation on how many people can be in the same spot, changing entirely how the combat is developed. Gw1 had it btw.
  • As nearly all offensive AoE skills in gw2 are limited to 5 targets, their effect is diminished when the enemy gets bigger. Zerguing is not only required for surviving, but also for killing.

HoT only enchanted the zerg mechanic by killing roaming options and making melee based classes tanky and offensive at the same time. But zerguing was already there before.
To prevent it, the entire game has to be redesigned and that’s why zerg will never disappear, it’s not just a matter of redesigning support.

Ansau.7326

You know what is broken in chrono mesmers? It is the fact that it is possible to chain activate shatters imo. I think that another mechanic should be applied to the chrono line such as “When you activate a shatter, other shatter skills are deactivated for X amount of time”, kind of like a complementary tool to the internal cooldown of the shatters. Nothing too harsh, of course something like 1 second at maximum. I also think that chain activating shatters should only be possible under the effect of CS. And similarly enough I think that DH traps should receive the same kind of treatment.

That is already working as you pretend to, anet introduced it back in nov/dec 2012. Once you shatter, all other shatters are put into a 0.5s CD I think.

1) BF already saw two nerfs in a raw, higher CD and getting blur instead of distortion. Now it is fairly balanced, you eat 8 times retaliation and you can be CC with some skills. Most other professions have #2 skills that deal way more damage than BF while having crazy low CD.

2) Why? While in Moa, you can evade with #5 and double dodge for about 40% of the time transformed, and CC is the least of your problems, mesmer will usually put you lots of confusion and torment, neither are countered with stability.

3) Portal range is fine, otherwise it will be completely useless and mesmers would lose one of the main reasons it is taken in PvP.

4)At a realistic rate of alacrity, CS refreshes around every 65s, making it the 7-8th skill with highest CD in the entire metagame. There’s no need for higher CD on CS, or mesmer would be forced to only develop its mechanics very few times while the rest enjoy spamming theirs.

Basically, you want to turn mesmer to a useless butterfly creator.

Any Performance gain from ram speed?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

Well, I’ve tested 1600 cl11 vs 2400 cl10 and there is a meaningful improvement in all games and benchmarks tested.
Gw2 is about 1-2fps, GTA V is about 3fps, Hitman gets up to 5fps and 3DMark API Overhead shows hundreds of thousands points more.

People have the wrong idea ram speed doesn’t matter, but that comes from the past when overclocking ram was very limited and games were quite light in terms of memory.
But both things have changed. DDR4 can go from 2133 to 3600 from stock and even DDR3 goes from 1600 to 2400. And now games move a lot more data.

So yes, overclocking ram speed is profitable, although not as much as cpu or gpu overclock.

I didn’t think Mental Defense would activate until you evaded or blocked, so I didn’t think the criteria was met? After watching it over again, I never saw Defender on video, that’s why I am wondering. Illusionary Reversions takes 2 clones to get 1 phantasm, no? Chronophastasma is 1 phantasm after shatter. Since the progression was Phantasmal Warlock/Cry of Frustration/Phase retreat, didn’t see anything that would account for 3 clones on the indicator. I also tried to reproduce it on my Mesmer and was wondering what I am missing, getting an extra clone out could be the difference between life and loss, so that’s what I am trying to figure out.

Now that I’m detailedly looking it, Mental Defense doesn’t proc and 2 clones are weirdly generated.

It seems Phase Retreat bugged creating 2 clones that weren’t shattered with Cry of Frustration. It can be seen as only 2 attacks are blocked (player and iWarlock) and the clones don’t attack or do any animation.
After that, Chronophantasma generates an iWarlock again and he shatters with Mind Wrack, this time everything being shattered as the warrior evades 5 attacks (probably the 5th is an AA).

Hard to tell if it’s a extremely rare bug of Phase Retreat or if it is caused by the near instantaneous combo that messed up the clone generation and shattering, probably involving Illusionary Reversion when it shouldn’t.

So far his experience in Bronze only tells us division climbing is possible when you vastly outperform the playerbase there.

But he hasn’t experienced yet the situation a lot of people is stuck in, where there is a mix of unexperienced players and those with some knowledge of pvp mechanics and dueling ability. Here the division climbing starts to become harder, as you are continuously hold back by blowup matchups where carrying an entire team becomes nearly impossible (think about that 4vs5 where the enemy has 2-3 players that aren’t clueless).

It will be interesting if he keeps the experiment until he reaches Plat or if he stops at T2-T3 silver thinking he made a point, and where this edge starts.

what does this prove? only that an experienced player on an alt account can take advantage of new/inexperienced players, and nothing more. although i do have a question about something i saw between 4:55-4:59 – how does helseth 1)phantasmal warlock, 2)cry of frustration, 3)phase retreat and end up with 3 clones (indicator says he has 3)? otherwise, all i see is an experienced player on an alt account trolling inexperienced players, which proves that people who know how to play can take advantage of people who don’t at lower levels. imho, nothing of value to see here.

He generates an iWarlock and just before he shatters the trait “Mental Defense” generates an iDefender after he gets hit. After shattering, “Chronophantasma” generates another iWarlock and iDefender, and the trait “Illusionary Reversion” creates a clone for shattering 2 illusions.

- Eles, Necros and Thieves are fair matches. If the opponent is quite skilled it will be hard for you to kill them.
- Revs and Druids should be easy fights, as mesmer can counter them easily.

In low divisions, your best chance will be looking for +1 fights and to control points with Portal.

Season 5 Class Balance Thread

in PvP

Posted by: Ansau.7326

Ansau.7326

Silver 1330, but started from bronze 1025 (hi beloved MMR hole), mesmer main playing power build.

I have 2 big concerns:

  • DH traps. It’s not about how good they are individually, but how ridiculously can be spammed. It’s insane how you are forced to play outside the point because you know stepping it means insta-death as 8-10-15 traps pop up on you with heavy CC, soft CC, heavy damage, unblockable hits…
sPvP being so focused on point capture, traps need some sort of delay or limiting mechanic on use, so the mindless DH stack with trap spam isn’t such broken.
  • Heavy CC chains should be limited so you aren’t locked into it. Specially those involving movement, like you being pulled, then knockbacked by some random skill ending up into a pulling trap or Gravity. It’s 2-3s where you’re doomed to be a ping pong ball.

Besides that, I find balance quite well achieved. Of course there are some strong builds out there, like condi mesmers, condi warriors, scrappers or unkillable auramancers, but they are inherently strong for how sPvP is designed, around fighting in small places where cleave and AoE is so determinant.

One thing I know for sure is class balance is not the biggest issue of this 5th season.

Your PSU might be the issue since it’s having lower voltage in all rails. 11.6v for the 12v, 4.9v for the 5v and 3.1v for the 3.3v.

this game is demanding on the cpu.

lower refections/shadow/draw distance/player amount

those tend to be cpu killers. . . ..

I have to disagree. I have i7-5820 k. never see more than 26% cpu usage. I have GTX 690’s in quad SLI. They’re maxed out at 99%.

You have to look at core per core usage, not overall cpu usage. Maxing 12 threads is not a thing 99.99% games can do.

Sigil of draining is not very good anymore.

Of course it is. Why it shouldn’t?

It’s like 666 dmg/life steal on interupt. It’s not always easy getting interupts in scenarios where the enemy has stability in mass and you are not taking boon strips yourself (no nullfield). There are better sigils to take and sigil of draining is only slightly better than sigil of fire which IS garbage.

Now if you are just rolling a bunch of K-train noobs then sure, ya its “good”. The only reason I would take it is if your build has lots of rupts and is starved for heals. This build isn’t starved for heals.

No, it’s about 1100-1200 damage and 1000 healing per interrupt with no internal CD.

And the fact that you’re not taking Null Field or Shattered Concentration isn’t a problem of the sigil, it’s just you deciding not to take them. And then you should know draining would be the least of your worries.

Sorry, but I don’t see how this build can be effective in a meaningful way.

Well, if your numbers were correct I would agree, but they’re not really accurate at all.

You’re forgetting that SoI is also procced from a trait. What you actually give is as follows…

On a 24 second cycle:

  • 12 seconds of quickness (50% uptime)
  • 20 seconds of vigor and fury (83% uptime)
  • 12 seconds of protection (50% uptime)
  • 2 stacks of stability
  • 8s of resistance (40% uptime)

The actual numbers are quite a bit more impressive than what you stated there.

Again, this is totally incorrect. There are 2 metrics you can use for the distortion share: long duration average and realistic average. The long duration average is ~1 use every 7 seconds. However, a realistic fight has ebb and flow, meaning that you’ll easily produce 1s up for every 4 or 5s down during high pressure and recover cooldowns during low pressure.

To use your 50 seconds metric, that’s 10-12.5s of invuln, or 20-25% uptime. 20-25% uptime on invulnerability is pretty insane if you think about it, and substantially higher than your estimate.

So yeah, if your numbers were accurate, I’d agree that the build isn’t worth running. However, your numbers are actually about 50% of the realistic values that this build produces, making that analysis invalid.

Quite a bit more impressive? You’re still unable to solo perma a single boon for yourself with all the traits and skills used. For a build that is purposely focused on boon creation that is rather disappointing. You’re just doing what everyone else is doing with the small boon generation of all members of a party.

As a realistic fight, let’s take the first fight of your video. That rev gets 1s at 0:18, 0:24, 0:49, 0:56, 1:11, 1:24, 1:42, 1:56, 2:13, 2:42, 2:48, 2:58, 3:14, 3:22 and 3:30, being a total amount of 15s of distortion.
The first fight takes about 180s, here I only count combat time, not the time while disengaging or stacking, this is the time the rev takes damage or can take it.

So there we have, in a real case, your build with your own guild is only able to bring around 8% uptime of distortion during combat. And sorry to say it, but that’s laughable. That rev still has to rely on his evades, blocks and healing to survive.
In fact, your distortion has even less effect as that rev often evades with distortion on him. Also, several times he loses more than 10k health and there is no distortion to mitigate that. The effect is so random and short that a lot of times it is lost.

Don’t get me wrong, the idea is cool, but it’s just suboptimal. It’s nothing better than whatever zerg orientated mesmer build you can design nowadays, and sure it is not the “Holy Grail of Mesmer WvW builds” as you claim…

  • For doing what you pretend to do, you have to sacrifice a lot of the build to achieve it being crap on other aspects, like damage, healing, boon ripping or reflects.
  • What you’re pretending to do has little real impact, as zergs don’t need to be more tanky and boon generation is already good enough.
  • And the effectiveness you have showed us revels it only succeeded because the personal skill of your guild is vastly greater than the mindless pug blobs you faced.
