A zerker 30/10/0/0/30 wells + lichform can cap a normal camp really fast. But if you get jumped on while doing it, best of luck.

I much prefer the comfortable controlled plague brought by a Dire/Scavenging or perplexity 30/30/0/10/0. Can take on any camp variant, even those with the brigade of veteran ogre brutes or dredges. Those take 2 swoops though.

perhaps i’m a glutton for punishment but, I think i’ve decided upon Necro for my camp flipping solo WvW roamer toon. i know i know, “go roll thief or warrior instead”…
I just have a thing for ranged dots and the necro aesthetic… what race/build would you go if started out fresh? I’m looking to maximize what speed the necro has, with the ability to quickly flip supply camps and get out asap.

I’m recently back and looking for a build I can solo roam around with in WvW to flip camps. (not fond of the zerg meta). Any help?

I’d like to see a speed penalty applied to zergs. Say, when X number of players from X server are in the same general area, apply a “Zerg Debuff” that prevents speed buffs from being applied.

You wanna outrun angry mobs and zergs while soloing supply camps? How about killing supply yaks and resetting you hp (ooc) in front of the enemy’s face? Perma-contesting enemy waypoints like nothing?

I’ve got just the right build for you, my friend. This build is has the best mobility in the game while doing great sustained condition damage. The only thing that comes close in mobility is a Sword/Warhorn + Greatsword warrior. Engineers mentioned above don’t even come close.

It’s a pistol/dagger condition build for thief, great when outnumbered even better in a 1v1. Use Shortbow as an escape tool and for shadowsteps. With this build you have MASSIVE survivability dude to the large amount of evade, vigor, shadowsteps, stealth and permaswiftness you get. Damage comes mostly from pistol bleeds. It’s a reliable way to kill off most people in wvw. It ain’t no “zomg dps 15k backstab hurr durr” but it gets the job done while giving you best mobility in the game and general survivability.

With the mobility, you have full control of engagement. Trust me, if you’re the solo roamer type you’ll want this. The ten guys struggling to keep up while you ooc will too. If the 1v1 you’re fighting suddenly becomes an angry mob of 10, you can hop out of there with incredible ease. If you hate waypointing back to the keep right after being run over a zerg, p/d thief is the way to go.

Like you, I never enjoyed zerging or being part of a blob. It seemed so meaningless and boring being just one person in a blob. Just reply with your preferred gw2 build calculator and I’ll show you the ways of the mobile p/d thief. Lately I’ve been lazy about recording my gameplay but I’ll upload some old footage.

Not outrunning zergs, but 1v1 and 1vX situations it’s necro no doubt, and camp flipping is a breeze compared to other classes as well.

I do 2 & 3 with my Guardian. I can usually have a non upgraded camp cleared before the swords appear and just have to wait on the cap so the arrival of a zerg does not bother me. Sometimes I get away, sometimes I do not.

Now that’s an option I hadn’t really given much thought. What are you doing to dps so fast? Also, how’s speed on a Guardian?

Hi, I hate zerg’ing, it’s just not my thing. But I like keep siege and small gang stuff. Lately though I’ve mostly just been doing my own thing. And wondering if the community can help me out with what my next class would be to fit the following criteria.

1. Would like to be able to outrun the zerg should it arrive.
2. Would like to be able to solo supply camps if possible.
3. Can do #2 within a reasonable amount of time so as not to HAVE to enforce #1 ;-)

I’m suspecting this is either a thief or warrior?

Just watched a video of a guy drop a smoke bomb, then used some finisher(s) to acheive a lengthy stealth. Can anyone tell me what exactly he did, when I do it, i get a good 2 sec or so, he seemed to get a lot more out of it.

Is there anything that gives permaspeed nowadays? Any kind of signet? When I left, my gear was set up so that every time i used a heal i got a speed buff…. it was tedious to keep up. Is there anything i can do to passively keep my speed up nowadays?

Oh wow, really?

Ok, recently came back to the game and looking for an alt, wondering if thief would be my cup of tea. My requirements are the class have good burst dps and good escape ability. The two classes I’m leaning towards on this are Warrior and Thief. Both seem to have great mobility & good/great dps? Which do you feel is in a better spot for WvW these days?

As a programmer, I can respect that this may be a difficult undertaking. But as a user, I’d like to ask that you reevaluate these algorithms and perhaps come up with a clever method/approach to applying aoe dmg. There’s got to be a better way. Other games have been doing this for many years. I know you guys can do it. /sends Cookies

I really like the idea of applying penalties to large gatherings (zergs), I’ve stopped playing WvW b/c of the zergfest, it’s fun for a bit, but quickly loses it’s flair. The solution seems simple enough. Apply debuffs to zergs…. call it “Army Sickness” or whatever. When in a large gathering you move/perform at a reduced speed.

My son and I rolled thieves, but i’m more of a ranged dps type person. Both our characters are in their teens and I’m not super excited about melee from a WvW perspective. We’ll be doing a mix of WvW/PvE, and PvE wise, feels totally fine. but prefer ranged for WvW. Is p/p any good for WvW? Would I be better off rolling an ele?

Personally, I find the WvW jumping puzzle just another challenging form of PvP. It’s cut throat PvP at it’s best. My son & I go in nightly to complete it. And me being a mesmer I always spam in guild/map that I’m offering portals up at the jump puzzle for the next 10 minutes. I usually get a small flood of players that come in to get their free siege.

I’m a bit of a kitten and will stand on that cropping of rock that the 1st mesmer portals are typically done. I’ll stand facing away but panned so i can see the stairs that lead up from the dome… waiting for enemy players to walk up those stairs… i call them the victory stairs b/c, you know once you’ve hit them its all downhill from there and you get all elated “YES! I DID IT…..”…. and then i use my focus offhand and yank them off those stairs where then plummet to their deaths. Like i said, kitten.

And yep, i always get 1 or 2 “Get out here and fight, stop doing lame JP”‘s or something similar. I just ignore them. Once you pay my $60 for my game I might start letting you tell me how to play. Until then, stuff it and I feel like i’m contributing by helping others get siege/items/badges quickly.

Half of you need to role a mesmer and test portal out for yourselves so you understand it’s mechanics. The amount of misinformation in this thread is sad. I’d be screaming for nerfs too if i believed a mesmer could walk up to a keep, cast portal on one side… then magically cast it on the other side and portal 100 buddies into the keep lord’s room.

This has got me interested. As I enjoy both weapons a great deal. Never been a fan of sword/X weapon sets with exception to focus…. never gets old pulling people off walls/bridges.

Got to 10 on my Asuran Mesmer…. I wanted a small race for WvW. But having already an 80 Asuran Engineer…. i wanted something that’d show armor well. Asuran’s imo dont show off armor / weapons as well as other races. So, rerolled my mesmer as human, no regrets and gear/combat animations are solid. Love how GS hovers between his two hands while it does it’s dmg.

I thought you were in all Condition gears. Glad to see this isn’t the case. I’m going after a similar Zerker, Valk,Knights mix of armors so it’s good to know if i’d like to give this a try my gear wont be too far off.

Your videos are always fun to watch. I wish this in line with my playstyle. I just like the GS so much.

Got this off another post, looking at the stats, sounds good to me, and i was curious where to get some of the following gear…
Full Knight armor (is this only TP?)
Full Valkyrie trinkets (only TP as well?
Berserker weapons (CoF dungeon)
6x Centaur runes (TP?)

I’m 68 now, having come from an 80 Engineer. For me, mesmer didn’t start getting good/fun to play PvE wise til around 40. Mesmer is a class that should not be judged til late 30s imo.

EasymodeX is right. There’s nothing save siege equipment that you should get with badges that you’d need as a mesmer. If you’re having fun playing staff…. play with staff man. You dont need badges.

I noticed this last night in WvW. I summoned it , was very close range and nada. He popped up but no slow. Target was a lowbie like myself. No dodges, etc… I was on a slight decline if that helps.

1) Clearly, OP is either glass cannon or not 80 or most likely, both.

2) Personally I like the mechanic and feel it has a place in the game.

A small part of the reason I rerolled mesmer was on my 80 geared Engi, i was defending a keep. I was operating an arrow cart that i ‘thought’ was safely tucked away. At some point i get a phantasm on me…. and then another…. i ignored the 1st one but by the time i had the 2nd one on me i realized… um, i need to do something. So as I was fighting the 1st one… a 3rd one pops and I was in real bad shape. Fortunately… they die easily. I barely lived through the encounter, but at no point did i say “OMG NERF MESMER THAT’S SO OP”
I personally think it’s a cool mechanic, summon your “ghosts” that can pass through walls to haunt their victims. I think there’s a place in the game for the mechanic. Ppl need to stop whining so much.

Just wanted to say thanks Mesmers for turning me onto this class. I loved the idea of playing a mesmer but sucked terribly at it. So at launch went Engineer, another complicated class. But, something with Engi clicked and took the class to 80. And while my Engineer is fun and useful, my longing to play a mesmer grew every time i fought one. Finally decided to just break down and give it a go after reading some guides/watching some vids. And I gotta say, even in my early 20s i feel so so useful. Anyways, thanks. Loving the class.

Man, I like my 80 engineer a lot. But i never felt more useful than I did last night in WvW on my 20’ish Mesmer. Sooo much fun. Always felt like i had plenty to do.

Portals are valid. Just stop be lazy, and check the keeps before you leave em.

Have to say, at first I really liked the mechanic. But now i just find it annoying in WvW/PvP. Wouldn’t mind seeing this done away with or neutered. I think the stealthing, porting and dmg’ing needs to be done away with.

Dont overlook Norn catmanform, has like a 10s stealth thats useable in combat. Could be vital in helping slip into a keep and getting portals going… or slipping through an enemy line and getting a portal going, etc…

Granades spam is in no way slow, especially compared to longbow. It also gets to where they were thrown at faster and longbow can be avoided be just general movement.

What is your point?

At max range, it feels pretty slow to me. It’s certainly plenty of time for the enemy move out of the ring (which most do). On walls though it’s great, you can keep a constant barrage up and keep people off walls easy enough.

My point?

Back to your other post saying it didn’t make sense that Engi’s had better AoE dps than your single target dps. I was simply pointing out the con’s attached to that AoE dps which people often overlook.

Cool, good feedback EasyX. Yeah, i do kill people with nades, mostly the ones that dont know better. Nade spam is very very effective at keeping people off walls. Problem is, it get’s kinda tedious/boring after a bit.

For nade engi’s its wack-a-mole. As soon as I see names pop up on a tower I start lobbing streams of nades forcing them to retreat. There’s always that dude or two that hang in there to try an get that last shot in… i reserve my nade barrage for them. A single engineer can keep a section of wall devoid of defenders. On Defense, i tend to hang out behind our doors and spam nade the door, keeping the heavies off.

@Celestian, thanks as well. You’re hitting a chord with me. I’m not really a badge collector per say, but I do collect more than most folks (yes im a nade/rifle engi).

I think what i’m really looking for is a consistent solid single target burst dps character.

I’m looking for an alt (i play engineer) and I like how different the mesmer is so far. But what strengths do you bring to WvW over say other ranged classes?
