Veteran players are too hostile to newbies

It’s a feature rather unique to this game as one would have to have perspective of how other communities operate.

Gw2 lacks the developer created safeguards like tutorials, split difficulty, and tied in modes such how dungeons are basically training raids in other games. While in this one they operate differently without the need of trinity elements. Even story elements as well as Anet has developed a game with lacking educational tools forcing new players to get answers from the older base.

Sure there are education based guilds but every MMO has those but the amount of toxic elite is staggering and doesn’t balance out.

Anet has delved head first into some of the most toxic aspects of MMOs be it their time with esports or the more recent raids yet they never add in the tried and true rotective measures for the community.

Will elite spec feedback be implemented?

It was a demo not a beta they really don’t do beta’s in that sense or PTR’s the desert borderland is proof enough.

As for the elites one simply has to take a look at the nature of some of them namely the mirage. Some of the issues with the Mirage are issues that have been talked about for years regarding the core Mesmer spec and illusions. So if they haven’t taken any of that feedback and those same issues are plaguing the new elite then I don’t think anything will be done.

Because if they were willing to adjust to feedback then they would have done so ages ago. I don’t know how the other classes have been doing all these years but the Mesmer getting hit with the end of the stick is proof enough for me.

Having to show up early to catch a single bus is basically a dead map for a game in which other events and maps have multiple maps filling up and even during the events themselves.

Not to mention the overreliance on the looking for group mechanic compared to other maps. Such a low turn over means that other avenues should be added for the gear or that the event should be nerfed as old content is normally is during an expac.

is "waste of dev time" a real arguement?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Doam.8305

No its not

Primarily because this game lacks a PTR systems

Everyone is their own island but thinks that their king of the entire ocean what is or isn’t a waste of dev time isn’t for individuals to decide its a paltry argument. I for one belive you can’t build a proper house without a strong foundation. However Anet and others seem to want to decorate the home instead of worrying about whats under. Look at the Mirage for instance many of its issues are fundamental issues with the core mesmer. They wanted to keep adding instead of fixing and fine tuning. A person talks about PoF and the people will remember HoT as nothing has really changed. People say templates and others say its a waste of time in the end not covering your bases has led to a more toxic community.

The add and they neglect ignore all things that show the lack of connection with a community something that and honest to goodness PTR system would fix. We had a demo not a beta the feedback wont do much if anything at all. It releases in a month and what you see is what you get.

Considering they continue to build on a bad foundation they themselves refuse to repair I’d say the devs themselves don’t even know what is or isn’t a waste of time. For instance they continue to add to the story and yet new players have this giant black hole nestled were season 1 was supposed to be.

Elite spec weapons available to base class

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Doam.8305

I’ve raised that point a while ago and people made an interesting remark about this.
Each specialization is tied to a new weapon for the profession. But there will be a time when professions will have access to every weapon types available. At this point Anet won’t be able to assign a new weapon to the next generation elit spec if those weapons become baseline [without developping entire new types of weapons which would amount to a kittenload of work].

By tying weapons to elite specs, they’ll be able to add new specialization which will use existing weaponsets in an entirely different manner. For example, there could be a new Thief elite specialization which would use range/magic staff, or with different dagger attacks, etc.

Time and time again Anet has proven they care about viewership above all else even after the fall of esports. They still defend trench coats for medium because of a rodlike and that profile is so people watching can identify. It’s also why they limit the amount of skills. To double dip is to confuse the pvp watcher. Also it’s unlikely this game will last for that many expac said in the first place.

An Mmo only gets a sequel when the first one was succesful

Gw1 is a classic that existed in an era of constantly failing MMOs and the haydayvof WoW at its peak. A lesser MMO would have collapsed and gone under. The devs delivered and the community was strong enough to sprout a second game.

Gw2 isn’t as strong as GW1 it isn’t as focused as GW1 either so spawning a another game isn’t happening. Shifting focus all the time has damaged the brand. The say GW3 and everyone thinks of Gw2.

Esports classes who fit schemes like medium armor in trench coats and a limited amount of skills and reduced animations for people to see. Even these new elites the number one complaint seems to be pvp oriented without focus.

Doam.8305

Do not take this as me defending the shatter system, though. I still wish Mesmer of GW2 were more like Mesmer of GW1: Massive health and energy degeneration (energy in form of endurance, I suppose, or cool downs) with a very counter based play style. We went from very deadly Hexers in GW1 to falling closer to the performer aspect, in that we are entertaining with our pretty butterfly illusions, in GW2.

And be absolutely worthless in PvE? No thanks? (never played GW1 but we’re talking about a mesmer rework not a full game redesign, what little we have in interrupt builds is patently useless against breakbars)

Mind you MW is great for finishing off open world mobs and a decent filler for tagging, it’s really only in sustained dps situations where a burst damage skill with a cost is not desirable.

Mesmers were godly in PVE during Gw1 and that’s because the game was mroe difficult it was akin to something like BNS today in that the mobs mainly used our own skills against us. There were tons of skills added in gw1 and the mobs got them too so when an elementalist undead in Orr fir instance begins to nuke your party the mesmer could interrupt and increase the cd of that skill. Strength in PVP easily converted to strength in PVE because of this and the pvp was better to a degree not because of mechanics but because people knew the basics from their time in pve.

Yeah in GW2 I’d say that would be worthless but then again the new Warr elite is more of a traditional Mesmer than our entire class. So I’d say it would still be viable based on Spellbreaker merely existing.

I suppose it depends on perspective. You can both observe the same thing but see it differently because youre looking at it from a different side.

This is why you don’t debate anything on the official forums. The devs only release announcements here but their AMA’s and community discussions are on Reddit where things can be upvoted and downvoted. You get a much better grasp of the community.

People have perspectives on different things but the pendulum doesn’t swing here.

Box sales are a form of advertisement and advertisement and marketing costs money even in this day and age plenty of games get physical versions for the purpose. The reason why you would exlude yourself from that is if the costs don’t equate your expectations.

Thus this expansion is keen on those who’ve played the game and not so much trying to entertain new players. For instance a release next month is fine and everything but its enough time to pull off a proper marketting campaign at all. They even gave an announcement for we the players to spread the game via word of mouth. They even went so far as to decouple an entire expansion something that simply isn’t done in this day and age because this new expansion is more about retention and HoT obviously had the opposite effect.

More or less their skimping on the ad fund for the expac which is common when the prior product didn’t pull the weight you expected.

Sneaking in for the win she will absorb the power of Balthazar and the Dragons becoming Kormir the double dragon god you’ll have to praise her twice as much and she’ll ignore your prayers four times as usual. It will be a glorious new age for the most deserving god in history.

I’m excited! Means I don’t have to change my gear too much. Also, condi is a DPS spec. That’s the whole point.

It has a weapon that does terrible damage and 1 mediocre damage based trait, does noting to change our terrible damage on any other weapon, wheres the DPS?

I guess the dps comes from the #1 “cloaked” skills (like thief #1 in stealth). Every weapon has a new #1 “cloaked” skill, i only saw the axe and staff skill. I’d say the axe is more for pvp ( mobile and confusing )

Yeah but stealth can’t cap in pvp and fighting on a point would be pointless. Worse yet I’ve never played or heard of a single MMO where a high burst stealth class hasn’t been blacklisted by the community and nerfed into the ground.

But really a PTR more than anything as seriously it looks like they get their feedback from a bunch of YouTube heads to afraid to speak up as they might loose the access they’ve been given. These youtubers testing the game and having actual gameplay footage up aren’t a good source of information because they’d want to stay on your good side to gain access and youtube clicks.

PTR is something people can indeed do on the side to change things up a bit when their tired of doing the normal grind.

However tyria and ESPECIALLY TOWNS, Mounts are (for some ppl) massively immersion breaking.

How is it breaking your immersion?

As a long time WoW player i can come up with a few things that will ruin the original GW2 feel forever.

Here’s an example;

Picture Rata Sum on a busy day… all the clumps of players at several favorite and/or often visited places. I am sure you can come up with a few.

Now put all those players in those places on the huge mounts i saw in the preview.

There you go. Have fun with your new mounts and peeep those that actually enjoyed a game with no mount harassement.

Unless Anet is going to bar mounted players from a reasonably wide range of locations (auto-dismount), this game has entered the cheap bling mount harassment era.

I would actually say that mounts can be a nice addition to this game but without said corrections you can rest assured that people will go out of their way to mess it up for as much players as possible.

I for one, am going to wait until i see some footage of actual gameplay with proof of the above measures taken. If mounted players are allowed everywhere i will not only not buy but also uninstall the rest.

I’ve seen enough ‘mailbox harassment’ to last me a lifetime, thank you very much.

The legendary gear in this game has been doing that for ages now and not just them basic aura stacking in general.

You use WoW but Wps are akin to flying in WoW in that everyone is teleporting past each other and never looking each other in the face. Ground mounts will have people actually running the roads and seeing other players in the open world on the roads going back and forth on the new maps and choosing not to port in some of the old maps is actually a really big push in the games immersion. The game has a paths and roads and it’s about time people got an incentive to use those roads. How great would it be to if we got two seated mounts like in WoW and could taxi friends and guildies around.

But yeah if your worried about mounts in towns the auras and legendary backpacks sunk that ship ages ago. Heck I’d choose mounts in towns a hundred times over if the mount canceled out a players auras.

I wanna use Shield and Axe...

Agreed

An Axe should be paired with either a shield, another axe, or a severed head of your fallen enemy. An axe paired with a pistol, torch, or shiny bauble simply looses what makes an axe an axe.

The elite weapons should get a base form for the core classes. Change the skills for all I care but the shield would be the perfect visual match for the axe.

A screenshot that doesn’t the complete picture. Cool, argument from ignorance. And I’ve been playing since beta.

I’ve been playing since gw 1 but who cares you can’t prove when you started.

Mirage is a stealthy class that dishes out heavy amounts of Torment and Confusion. You have the choice to be as useless as a permastealth thief in pvp and wvw unable to push the objective and cap the targets. If that doesn’t float your boat you can bring your Torment and confusion to PVE as I’m sure the raid leader would love your stealth and special pvp centric conditions for the raid bosses.

It really didn’t take long at all after the images he linked came out for people to see the the mirage can work but if you want to play seriously and get things done your gonna have to stick to Chronomancer and hope none of the new elites outshine your abilities.

Mirage is kinda like a condi Mesmer who stacks Confusion/Torment yet constantly applies slow and CCs at the same time.

Dear Mesmers and future Mirage'

in Mesmer

Mirage spreads way to much Torment and Confusion the two worse conditions for PVE. It seems to be great for pvp but you have to do PVE to unlock anything these days and raid groups aren’t really looking for someone to spread Torment. So Chronomancer will remain in demand and if it somehow gets toppled by a new elite then the Mesmer is pretty much sunk in PVE.

You’ll be able to actual see other people traveling the world instead of them waypointing from place to place. Waypoints are a bad idea like in any game to be honest. Older games had to wait till flying for people to pass over each other without seeing one another. GW2 launched with it and this expansion will mean people actually traveling the roads in fact I’d say its the best announcement of the expac and that there shouldn’t be any waypoints in the open map at all.

Out of all the classes Mesmer has had the least amount of options for melee so another melee be it a weapon or ability was needed.

The axe as been stated prior can be used at mid range

However more importantly like with the last elite spec the weapon is only an option you never needed the shield to play a chrono and I’m sure you’ll never need a sword or an axe to play a mirage.

Obviously people asking what is recycled are trying to derail because this entire topic will be taken down if the TC mentions the actual spoilers.

When the game launched the innovation was high and welll received the issues where that some basic features from the last game were absent. Basic things like templates and the overuse of the waypoint making things just as bad as flying in other games. Since the roads aren’t full of players but rather people warping around.

The redundancies in the leaks I’ve seen expressed before at other places are redundancies seen in different aspects of the game. Which have gotten worse with the introduction of the mastery system.

I don’t know I’ve seen a lot of leaks without redudancy. But it doesn’t matter because I don’t judge games before I’ve played them. Anyone saying the expansion is redundant is making assumptions.

Some of us prefer to actually see something before we judge.

No such thing as perfection so treating the game as such gets you no where.

Some of us don’t blindly defend however how many different types of Swiftness exist in this game? How many different ways to jump? How many story arcs repeat? How many things have been abandoned? How many have been overly fixated on?

Even on this site there is a topic about Anets need to showhorn jump mechanics in with releases. During this last release the new mushroom jump is in the key line organs.

If the leaks are real the information is known and judgement has been made based on the information shown. I hate having to bring up reddit all the time but during the leaks it’s one of the places it was discussed at length. That too is a place the devs frequent. People don’t talk about the leaks much these days however because many simply don’t want to be spoiled.

First of all, saying someone defends someone blindly is a bit rich when you consider I just said I’m willing to wait and see. One of us is making a conclusion about a product that’s not out yet and the other is saying wait and see. I’m not even sure how that’s a defense. What you’re showing is a bias toward me because in your mind you’ve already labeled me a white knight. What I’m doing is being reasonable. If you feel it’s okay to draw conclusions about a product before you’ve seen it, that’s okay. I don’t think it’s okay, I’m entitled to that opinion. It’s neither unreasonable nor blind

But this other stuff you’re saying, about different ways to jump or different types of swiftness, well it’s funny but that’s the nature of fantasy and even fiction in general. There aren’t thousands of plots there are dozens. But there are millions of books.

There are only so many ways you can move. Some people look at the mechanics and see nothing but mechanics and some people look at the flavor of something and see something else. Seeing yourself launched out of a lava tube is a completely different thing than using a portal, even though for all practical purposes they act the same.

There are only so many ways you can move. There are only so many types of combat. In many games there are aoes and point blank aoes, often with different effects doing different damage. That doesn’t mean that using them is rehashing something.

At any rate, before you start bandying around words like blindly defending, maybe you should look and see if something is actually being defended.

My bais is due to your own comment about some of wanting to wait and see before coming to conclusions. If you don’t like people saying the same then I figure you shouldn’t have added such a thing to your initial reply. Furthermore your taking me as an individual a simple search will reveal I am not. Those were examples because the masteries are obvious and what you see as visual choice in masteries others simply do not. It was an example and isn’t the redundancies that people were talking about regarding the leaks.

Bad news for you….you ARE an individual. One person. No search of any sort will establish otherwise.

Also, waiting to judge a product until it is released, until the details are available to be judged, is not defending it or considering it to be perfect. Ive been arguing with Vayne on these forums for years now, but “Im going to wait and see before I judge,” is pretty much the most reasonable thing (IMO) that Ive ever seen him say.

But at least you admit to your bias.

I think it blew over that there are other places that guildwars 2 is discussed and as a messenger there are other people with differing views. My bias is dependant on the tone of people who reply. As for searches you can’t discuss leaks here without getting infracted and I probably couldn’t link a reddit or anything without the same happening.

Waiting to judge is fine I’m waiting for post launch feedback myself before I make my own judgement on whether I purchase it. However for now people will and discussing leaks and the information that will be releasing prior to launch including the vid at the end of S3 and Tuesdays announcement. Unless your waiting post release to buy it your going to make a judgment prior to release to make it day one. Most of the people here will probably pre-order it in advance without doing their research and then spend the next couple months making angry comments about such and such. Which will do more damage to the game than anything just look at HoT.

This is why people were so adamant about mounts early on

It’s not just jumping but there are massive redundancies in movement across the board with this game. Instead of adding mounts early and calling it a day they filled a book with different mechanics. This is precisely why the old saying if it isn’t broken don’t fix it exists.

Concerns about Expansion 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Doam.8305

Doam.8305

I’ve played many MMO’s and bought many expansions and hands down HoT is the worst expansion I’ve ever purchased period. It even surpassed Cataclysm my guild died and most of my friends quit the few that remain are the reason I still at least log in every blue moon. Forcing trinity elements and forcing my and other Mesmers into a low dps support role I never wanted. Death of dungeons and underwater with the introduction of raid meta and raid elitism. Gated story and changing the increasing the costs of old recipies breaking the market. Small guilds drying up with the lack of the low grade armor drops from mobs. Also unresolved story elements like Malyck and they waited to the very end to address anything that wasn’t raids.

Some may say fixating on the bad will create that situation but that’s not true at all in practice. Those that overhype are let down and those with no expectations are pleasantly surprised in the end.

My expectations for the expansion are practically zero I’ve never seen such a decline with the veteran base of any game that I’ve seen during HoT. I expect the mesmer to be nerfed some more its core will become more useless and its dps probably the worst of all the elites again. That the Sylvari will once again get zero plant baised gear. Also that they’ll abandon even more systems along with underwater, dungeons, activities, and certain holiday events. I’m not pre-ordering or even buying day one but rather waiting till after to see how it turns out for people. Heck before Hot the forums were so active this very topic would be on its 4th page by now the decline is obvious.

Alright Mr. Know it all

You have time to make posts like these so I want to here your take on the situation.

The leaked Mesmer weapon is the Axe and if you paid attention there are long bow using phantasm with the chronophantasma trait activated in the trailer. Another poster linked the images already.

If not two weapons or tying the phantasm to the axe like they tied the axe phantasm to the focus then what is your reasoning???

Bad news about the next Mesmer specialization

in Mesmer

Posted by: Doam.8305

Doam.8305

Ok let’s write this the long way.

1. A mesmer would not be using 2 pistols to execute any skill, since offhand can be different. Meaning that you can have torch, focus or sword instead of a pistol in your offhand. Unless ofc, ANet gives mesmer skill 3 similar to thief. Also that purple splash on screen seems to be in the background.

2. Here is my suggestion as to what mesmer reveal was in this trailer.
If you look at the background of the necromancer, you can see 2 phantasms that are apparently using bows, which suggest a npc that is using those 2 phantasms or it’s part of new elite specialization for mesmer and since all phantasms use weapons they were summoned from, that would suggest mesmer is getting eather a longbow or a shortbow.

Links are there as proof.

If you don’t understand me now, you are eather trolling me or are blind drunk.

Not sure what you are getting at, you do know that axe was already leaked as next mesmer weapon right?

What’s not to get the guy even bothered to provide everyone with links.

Someone stated that the latest trailer showed a P/P mesmer when in actuality it showed longbow mesmer phantasms. There is nothing that states were only getting one weapon with the expansion either so the two possiblities are that the Mesmer gets the longbow or the phantasms that come with axe would be longbow based. The focus mesmer already comes with axes and thus the precedent for different combinations already exists.

How friendly has the community been

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The reason why SOME people are less “friendly” in HoT is because the content is harder and not everyone is good at typing and playing. It’s easy to type in core tyria, because you’re not as ;likely to die when you do. That has nothing to do with friendly. It has to do with the ability to communicate while in danger.

Plenty of friendly people in HOT who just don’t type well.

I did not say friendly I said toxic, perhaps you missed that part?

You often get treated as you teat others just saying mate.

Not sure how this applies to me, I am very aware of this and did not treat anyone toxic, you do not know me just saying.

Don’t know if anyone’s ever told you or not, but you come off as brash to those in here that are saying things you disagree with (be it for perceived misreading or whatever). Which can turn people off. Which could be leading to the responses that point to the maybe it’s you answer.

Now I’m not saying that you’re intentionally doing this.

Why? Because I am being honest? If that is considered brash then you really have to question if those people are taking things way out of context, there is nothing brash about what I stated, people tried to question my experiences and that’s what it came down to, I am not going to let anyone tell me different, I am sorry if that is to brash for someone but that is a personal issue with them not me.

I am not a people pleaser I am very friendly but I certainly do not believe in walking around egg shells or care about someones opinion of me personally.

You’ve been perfectly fine

You have to understand these forums are weird and they breed a rather strange sort of trolling.

We lack the simple like and dislike option you see in other forums. There is no middleman an debates aren’t solved by one individual getting a ton of likes or one member getting many dislikes. It leads to a smug and dismissive attitude. There are good people on the forums like those who’ve offered to help you in game and offered advice trying to find a solution. As stated you’ve been fine in every post you’ve made in the topic and its best just to ignore the others because they won’t stop and keep trying to push their own agendas. You can always try reddit the community is large and the devs post their as well and with the basic system in place its a bit more civil since you can tell which side the topic is leaning.

At launch we had two classes that never got released. The first being Commando which every knows won’t happen due to tech. The second is the minstrel that later revealed itself to be the Mesmer.

A Bard and a Minstrel are more or less the same and the reason it’s so requested is because Anet put the idea out to begin with and it stuck.

Hate to tell you, the Bard and Commando classes were april fool’s jokes. They were never seriously intended as classes.

In no way shape or form was that even the point of my post.

It’s an idea and an idea doesn’t go away it was Anet that instilled that idea. For instance Mists of Pandaria originally started off as an April Fools joke. Which created the idea which instilled itself in the minds of the playerbase and grew.

The point is Anet created the idea which sparked the thought that powers desire leading to the current situation.

As for the elites that were leaked I’m fine with them the Axe for Mesmer is rather weird what with Mesmers being the duelist class. An axe isn’t something you’d usually duel with after all. The Mesmer needed another melter option so it’s alright. What I’d like is an overhaul for the core classes however since if these new ones might be another power creep then base Mesmer will fall even farther behind and other so will the other core classes.

I show up for an event on any other maps and the maps I zone in on is the one that gets the event done.

I show up for an event on a HoT maps and its empty no one is there because I have to use LFG to get an active event. If I miss the train for points I’m out of luck and will have to wait for the next.

A new player can explore all they want with only a skill gap halting them from exploring higher level places. Pre-HoT I collected all the pets on my ranger before I was even lvl 10. However in HoT your gated from entering certain areas by mastieries thus gating exploration.

The runner up maps for the worse would have to be S3 maps they’re too small, zone locked masteries, and don’t have the longevity of S2 maps. Also locking legendary design to the story content has lead to some rather bad legendary designs

Lower the Rank Requirement for Armor

I’ll be so disappointed if Anet caves and lowers the requirements. It will take away the value of it.

I think it will be even more disappointing if people give up on the entire game mode because they feel like the grind is too much.

Oh darling, people have been making that threat for four years now over various things. And yet, WvW keeps chugging along ….

Chugging is right

Requirement needs to be lowered because of the pre EOTM nerf rates they should have never set the bar in that bracket. At the same time the update was recent but even with linked servers my que times have all but vanished. I’m sure tier 1 will still have long ques for some time to come but the others have settled much sooner than one would think.

Prestige based on rank when we had an extended period of people shooting up the ranks like a rocket takes away the prestige of any item offered. Unless people with those rewards want to be known as EOTM farmers the system needs to be adjusted or their exp pre nerf revoked.

AFKing really needs addressed

Doam.8305

Nope

This has been addressed in the past and once again Anet won’t do the ground work needed to strengthen the foundation before building on top of it.

In WvW the reward tracks work based on participation and not immediate action like in PvP. In PvP you get points for every action that you completed while in WvW you merely get your participation up to its max and then wait on the timer to dish out your points. This means those people ran in a zerg to get their max participation then ported back to the spawn in order to reap out the rewards and whenver it starts to dip back down they kill a mob or join the zerg again for a second to set it back up.

WvW has been set up in a way to reward AFK play for ages now

Your longest time to sell a legendary Weapon?

Unlike other games and basically every other Auction Hall I can think off this game lacks a shelf life for auctioned items. There is no 12h-48h and then reavaluate and repost. That means there are items left up for days, weeks, months, and years this makes the economy sluggish to change. Personally I think the current market price of legendaries are inflated. Because people are placing items in increments lower than the value of items put up for auction when these gen 1 legends were the only go to source.

For instance I own Bifrost already but I don’t think it or it’s pre is worth the current price tag. It got to be the most expensive legend due to being issuable by many classes and unlike the GS it was the only option. However we have two legendary Staffs now and one would think the price would have dropped substantially.

It will take as long as you want it to as we do have buy orders from people seeking a discount. The other route pays more but you’ll never when it will sell. Going during high population times like server reset over the weekend would maximize the amount of people that see you new auction. Being a legendary means it will be unlikely someone will instantly undercut you by a copper too.

Does ANet Have a Middle Ground?

Truth unlike other MMO’s GW2 has gone through very distinct phases and each shift they’ve taken has come with a bang.

Look at their focus during launch, pushing for esports, and again when they went for raids. It’s not a light touch because they’d uplift other aspects of the game along with it. The very reason for this upcoming competitive patch is because they’ve been neglecting WVW and has a laser like focus on other aspects of the game. A rising tide raises all ships but this obviously isn’t how Anet has decided to run this game.

There is no PTR
There wasn’t any developer inquirer
There polls have set choices and no room to add in addition or even fill in an other

So obviously my concern is they don’t mess WvW up even further than they did with the introduction with DBL. Anet is a restaurant without a menu that brings out whatever they want for the player to have to deal with.

So there is a concern they could make things worse

Edit: They made a blog post after I made my initial statement and while it seems good I wonder if they’ll give out retroactive rewards. It starts at rank 50 but will the people in the hundreds of thousands get anything retroactively? Also we can’t use gliders in WvW

Why are people still trying to use the economy to make sense of H. Leather prices!?
I mean something like MC are held to the back and forth of the economy but hardened leather is exempt,

Anet went in played god and changed things themselves they changed the recipies to require more leather. They reduced the drop rates, increased the demand, increased the uses, increased the refinement, and decreased the salvage. There is no faith in leathe because Anet are the ones who messed it up and it can only be fixed by them reverting at least some of their changes. This is modern Anet though and they’ll never admit their wrong about anything.

GS4 change

Personally I can only describe it as dumb

The GS is a long ranged weapons with a short range phantasm effect which doesn’t make sense. I’m at a distance using all my skills when using my GS if a player gets in close enough to get hit by the phantasm pre attack I’m going for the GS5 skill instead to knock them back. I can’t imagine the situation were I’d actively get in close with a GS just to peg them with that GS 4 attack.

I don’t know whether to call it a nerf with the animation involved or useless but it really doesn’t add anything.

Does anyone just have fun anymore?

Fun died with pruning

When they were on the Esports kick they stopped adding skills and even removed anti toxin spray

They removed a couple of class mechanics during the pre HoT launch

They removed/toned down the visual effects of skills

Just lately they nerfed a couple of builds and tuned up some but not to the point of viability like with Power mesmer

Fun is subjective but it goes without saying when you take away a persons toys there going to have less fun. The game is min-max because the game has been pruned to be min-max as the devs are the ones who set the tone for a game.

I’m tired to see arguments like “it’s too much work or it’s too expansive”. I mean it’s a MMO, it’s a big universe and features like that are parts of this.

I agree with DarcShriek, there would not be many skins but it’s not a big problem.

^
This

I’ve never seen the too complicated or too expensive remark used in any other game. It makes me think that the devs themselves are posting. It also screams that people’s expectation of the devs are extremely low that they don’t trust them to improve the game.

Anything worth doing is difficult and the very nature of creating a game and maintenance is also difficult. There are different devs there now but a simple loook at Gw1 tells you that those devs weren’t afraid of difficulty. In an age of wowkillers popping up left and right gw1 was one of the few games to survived. It was a great game and that fact it survived were so many have failed is a testament to it. They took the hard path and players made hard requests it’s only a shame that a game that survived that era of chaos doesn’t get more recognition in this game in way of mechanics, weapons, and so forth.

I know I’m going on a bit but I just feel like this game is past it’s prime and nothing screams louder than all this people and the devs themselves making a difficulty excuse. The series would have died with the first game if we had this level of enthusiasm back then.

All this talk about difficulty of recreating it doesn’t really matter

Of course it matters — I think the point you make later is that other things also matter.

The question is whether the game will be healthier going into the future with what we have right now or something more indepth.

Sure, that’s in fact one of the questions that the developers addressed when discussing LS1 — according to them, there are more people interested in new stuff than in seeing a repeat or even just going backwards.

In other words, they believe the game would be healthier going forward.

Heck all these kill Braham and Majory comments we’ve seen over the year are tied to the fact that these people are strangers. I don’t care if any of them do die because according to my own story they kidnapped me and tried to fill my head with nonsense about me being their boss.

Actually, I can’t agree. Some people who participated in LS1 never had any warm fuzzies for some/any of the NPCs. Scarlet, in particular, was fiercely hated by many during the time of LS1. (Hated as an idea, not as one hates a well-written antagonist — that was the critique, although I enjoyed her as the villain.)

Further, we see figures in the original personal story that generate their own negative critiques. If you play only humans, you don’t get any strong sense of Zojja or Eir, so they both seem whiny in dungeons and during the final fight against Zhaitan. Trahearne, of whom we learn much more, was particularly disliked as a character.

In other words, the absence of LS1 isn’t the reason that people don’t care about some NPCs — there are all sorts of story-driven and/or story-writing reasons for that.

New players have issues regarding the story and that will reflect itself in retention. If there going to use these characters then one would think they’d need proper introductions first.

I agree with this — I just don’t agree that revamping S1 is the best way to do that.

Of course current players want new content there current players the issue is that for any game to be healthy it needs a constant stream of new blood.

They don’t have to revamp S1 all they’d have to do is revamp the S1 movie as it only addresses Scarlet. They’d have to go no further than provide the backstories behind all the featured NPC’s in the story and why your character went from being called commander down to simply boss. They could even do it with still images and text boxes if they wanted too. Oh they should probably explain all the junk too because S1 left a lot of junk scattered across all the maps. Either that or clean up the piles of rubble, nodes, and whatnot.

Legendary light armor looks like heavy armor

I really believe the legendary sets should have been cultural armor, specific to each race. They had more than enough time to make one for each race. It’s been over 2 years.

Yet they clearly said the process of making the legendary armors was more time consuming than they had expected and far more complex.

Now while I’m sure arenanet would deliberately sabotage their own game by providing only 1 legendary armor look per weight, until you actually show this to be the case your belive does not hold a lot of meaning compared to the official statement now does it?

Lack of consumer input

Legendary armor didn’t need multiple precursor sets, transformations, or rune swapping. All of that is choice on the part of Anet they deliver food to our table without even offering a menu/poll

Legendary weapons launched with one precursor and a simple crafting method. There is no reason for legendaryvarmor to be so complicated. If Anet did a poll I’m sure based on the feedback from these sets that people would have wanted 5 non transforming cultural armor sets with either 1 to 0 visible precursor pieces. Personally I don’t get precursors you wouldn’t use a gun or wear clothing that’s only partially complete would you? It’s the finished product that gets used.

However I and no doubt others feel like the damage is already done the game needed something years ago and at this point nothing will save this story for me. It’s all about the gameplay as people debate more over the balance of the game than they do the story because they don’t care about the story enough to argue over it.

Direct copy and paste “Phantasmal Swordsman: This skill now performs a sword strike in front of the player when summoning the phantasm. If the sword strike hits you and all Swordsmen currently summoned, (<comma=Pause) gain 8 might for 10 seconds.”

I honestly still think you’re reading it wrong, unless you’ve tested to show yourself and all swordsman gain might (although adding the might to swordsman might be a way to show that might was applied during the instance for better readability/usability idk)

Idk why people are talking about that comma, it’s just comma gore from our esteemed dev team. It doesn’t change the meaning, it’s just poor english…

It’s like politics no matter what happens some people can never bring themselves to admit Anet made a mistake. So they latch on to the comma even though night is being placed directly on the phantasms. He is even defending useless might on the phantasms already which can of course be stolen and used by other classes. Others are going the new elite route but we know nothing official of the elite and these people are just setting themselves up.

There is no other explanation other that no one plays Mesmer and it gets even worse when you consider Mesmer is the unique class for this game and thatypically means it would get more attention.

You shouldn’t encourage people not to speak, just because you don’t like the balance they decide to do. All the balance they try and do makes sense. The problem is a lot of the forums are never asking for balance, they just like to use that word to push the changes that benefit them.

How in the blue blazes do the Mesmer changes make any sense!?

They literally tossed might directly on phantasms and everyone knows phantasms aren’t effected by buffs. At this point the useless buffs on phantasms are a nerf because even if they do nothing other classes can still strip and convert those coins.

The actually wrote they increased the Mesmers pressure game while only adding instant effects to phantasms thatvwill only buff out burst. The burst dmg of Mesmers was fine and in the coming days people are going to be flooding for Mesmer nerfs.

Instant dmg on phantasms increases burst but also means instant drop out of stealth.

I’m in full agreement with TC at this point

What if when a phantasm is destroyed or their target dies they explode or trigger an effect.

Ya know like the clone death we used to have before they removed it and created all these problems. I mean phantasms persisting and chrono being baseline plus a number of other issues would instantly be addressed by reverting the changes they made in the past. They’d just have to put a simple timer on how often it triggers so all this clone spam we have can’t be abused.

Doam.8305

It gets even odder when you think that all of this is to replace those illusion death traits. It’s true using phantasms from a stealth position will be a bit more instant. However it’s something and in normal circumstances that’s better than nothing. However the outcry happened nearly two years ago during the balance patch pre-HoT. Those people either quit, shifted classes, or play much less by now. It’s probably a change for those who will come back and check things out prior to the expansion.

I don’t see how attacks at the creation of phantasms create pressure they’ll just assist in burst dmg. Pressure would be something at the tail end in case they get destroyed or their target dies. Basically the clone death mechanic but there not big on reverting any of their changes regardless of the outcome just look at the state of leather.

Please defend the medium legendary armor

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Doam.8305

It continues a trend and does so without shame

The light armor and heavy armor suits the classes that wear it the heavy armor looks at home be it on a guardian, warrior, or Revenant.

Medium armor has a history of tossing thieves under the bus because sure a trench coat makes sense for a ranger and an engineer however it doesn’t for a thief. A theif is like an Assassin, Rogue or Ninja they move stealthily and quickly. In all of Gw1 I can’t think of a single extended coat that assassins used. Yet in Gw2 there flooded with the things barely any armor suitable for a theif and the ones that are will typically be racial.

So medium armor can be defended in that it continues the norm and standard of medium armor of tossing the thief under the bus. This is fashion wars after all and thieves aren’t at every corner showing of their armor for a reason.

At least some of those monster skills are used by mobs who have a PC allowed class.

Yeah but not the race even titans and destroyers had PC allowed classes

Destroyers in Gw2 barely do anything and are really sad but in Gw1 they had heft

Destroyer of Hope, Sinew, Lives, Thoughts, Deeds, Bones, Hordes, Flesh, Compassion, Souls, and Earth are all various types.

Many of those are warrior class but its a different race completely than the players could command so they had additional destroyer skills to go along with their class skills. In GW1 a human warrior npc had access to the human warrior toolbox but something like a Naga or Critter had racial touches added in.

Player skill level/class knowledge decline

Doam.8305

Dungeons have story mode, PvP has its own starting area, Fractals have that crew in the lobby and that little video, and WvW of course has that tutorial NPC staring you in the face the second you enter and that one tagged NPC whose name I forget who will actually go cap a tower with you.

Then we hit raids and raids have nothing the other modes aren’t even a form of preparation like they are in other games. I bring this up to make a point in that it’s Anets fault for the decline in skill level. Core was fine but then HoT roles out and they stopped making tutorials or even making simple tooltips the CC, breakbars, trinity, and so forth are never shown or brought up to the player. The only way they learn these days is from toxic aggression from people yelling at them about a mobs breakbar. Which is rather bad or being told the build(sigils/prefixes/skills) they’ve used since they started are no good to get into raiding and they have to change their everything.

The first two times I tried to raid I was flat out denied because because I was an asc wearing condi user who hadn’t switched to vipers yet. I also learned of certain mechanics from some very lets say enthusiastic people during the DS meta. Complete change from core and I can see how that could put off some vets.

There are much more complicated and difficult games on the market however those devs created robust tutorials to teach and nurture those players every step of the way so drops in skill are a none issue. The core game had these things but then with HoT they simply stopped and hence the reason your seeing the issues you see today.

The big issue is that its been years if your the type of player who can’t handle being chewed out for not knowing certain things then you’ve already quit the game and will probably never return. If your the type who doesn’t care and won’t change because some arrogant elitist gets angry then your never going to change at this point. The game has definitely gotten more toxic with HoT and player driven education does more harm than good with the current state of things.
