I’m a Sylvari I have no problems with her at all and am sorta confused as to why my own character is so hateful to her. If anyone is going to understand the pressures of following the dream and interpreting its going to be another Sylvari. She wasn’t corrupted either so I don’t get the distrust I even took her along for the final battle if we hated her this month then why allow her the option to fight the final boss in the first place?

I’d be alright with Caithe, Canache, Ritlock, and Tiami plus Zojja is she wakes up and tossing out the rest of the characters. I may have missed season 1 but Canach and Tiami seems alright enough.

Why is the endgame so "unrewarding"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Doam.8305

The endgame is unrewarding because literally the endgame is unrewarding

Horizontal Progression has serious flaws and that unrewarding feeling is a major one

This game lacks level increases and stat increases meaning your gear is set in stone meaning that easy to aquire rewards such as slight increments in stats on gear are non-existant. In fact basic easy to acquire rewards in other games simply don’t exist in this game. The reward structure is such that everything is on a grind system for rewards. A new skin in WoW can be simple since it also rewards stats you get a wardrobe unlock and you get some stats and thus you feel rewarded. New skins in Gw2 are locked behind excessive crafting, acheivements, gathering and so forth because they can’t reward a simple stat increase.

Furthermore stat increased item as a reward system has to have methods to unlock it and that is typically your dungeon and raid loot. You have to add content for players to do that will unlock that new stat increase in order to keep the hamster wheel spinning. GW2 doesn’t have to spin the wheel and doesn’t have to create content to unlock items in fact they tie it into crafting. Dungeons are very few and allowed to decay and running a raid doesn’t garrentee you a reward you can use but rather it offers crafting material to grind to unlock a reward that’s not even in the game yet. Raids are supposed to allow a person the ability to aquire Legendary armor but it’s not in the game yet and they don’t have too put it in anytime soon. This game may not have a hamster wheel but it does have a wheel and that wheel is crafting materials that need to be grinded out in order to get even the smallest of rewards.

Thus endgame isn’t rewarding because the game likes to think giving items to unlock an item that can unlock another item to finally collect the item is the reward. The crafting mats and collection lists items are disguised as rewards but your not going to be given any sense of accomplishment until months down the road when those items can eventually be turned into something usable like a simple skin.

I haven’t met anyone yet who truly feels the endgame is rewarding and those that do go back to my issue on no short term rewards everything is a long term goal in this game and the grind to finally get that reward at the end of the long tunnel isn’t very fun.

Character progression is world building and creating the proper hamster wheels to reward the player for a job well done. That new gear is a new skin and new stats gathered in a new area using new skills. The hamster wheel is a wheel of rewards and reinventing ones self.

For the people defending and giving excuses for the lack of season 1 content

How do you expect people to care at all about future story segments?

It’s like telling people to read a certain book but also forcing them to start half way through after all the character introductions are done. People were more optimistic about this games story when it was coherant nowadays it’s random character you know nothing about chewing you out for no reason and the obvious response is to ditch em. You have no connection about this stranger yelling at you so why should I care and why is my character such a sponge. Topics all over the place in this regard and some of it might be there is no connection whatsoever to the random group of strangers that decided to kidnap your character out of the blue.

Well tbf the Mursaat tablets seem to imply that they went head on with Zhaitan, whereas the Pact took a much more thought out approach of cutting off his armies, starving the dragon itself and then blinding it (taking out the mouth and eyes) before fighting Zhaitan. Overall its much easier to fight anything if you starve and partially blind it first, especially if you can take away its source of renewing its armies.

Not to mention Dr. Gor worked on a very specific anti dragon magic energy ray the he tested on minions of Zhaitan.

After we weaked the dragon by starving it of it’s food, took away part of it’s ability to make more undead, and partially blinded it. Zhaitan was hurt by a fleet of ships before we finished killing it.

Yup, we had a strategy. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re able to kill them at all . In my opinion the difference lies in defeating them completely.
Even if we let Zhaitan starve and blinded him, the anti-dragon-magic-energy-thingy shouldn’t be able to kill an Elder Dragon. It may weaken him or put him to sleep for another hundreds of years. The fact that we killed 2 Elder Dragons extremely fast and we’re about to defeat the other ones in the near future makes all of the past lore look ridiculous. They’ve always been a part of Tyria. They were able to push complete races away from their homes and take control over Tyria. In the end of GW1: EotN we were just able to kill a champion of Primordus, the Great Destroyer.

Now we’re killing tons of those champions as a routine every hour, how many Claws of Jormags did we already defeat, how many Shatterers? And after the personal story and HoT, killing Elder Dragons is now routine. It’s just ridiculous how easy it is after everything we heard about them.

However, I’m highly entertained that there are people in this thread that would have been find having a boss fight and killing Zhaitan with their tiny swords, where as a giant airship with five giant anti-dragon magic guns are apparently not enough to do it.

It’s understandable that players want to see an actual fight. We are clearly talking about the gameplay here. If you’re fighting them with a real army, gathering all of the races of Tyria to fight together, each of them contributing their strengths (asuran technology, charr artillery and warriors, etc.) it will feel much, much more legendary and epic than pressing “F” out of harm’s way. The anti-dragon-magic-cannon would be a small part within a large battlefield. We want to see how tiny we are individually compared to an Elder Dragon but yet huge as an army.

As I said, I would be happy if we weren’t able to defeat them at all, but as it is right now, I’d like to see an actual battle instead of Taimi pressing a button and sending the message “Jormag is defeated” through the communicator. Great interactive storytelling…

See that’s like saying in the past it would take weeks to destroy a city but now we can destroy it in one minute with a bomb.

Asurans and magitech like the Asurans use didn’t exist back then, nor did waypoints. Technology changes and makes things easier. We were able to defeat Zhaitan using that, but we tried the same trick with mordy and it didn’t work. We couldn’t even get close that way.

I agree that people were disappointed that it wasn’t a fight. The fact that it wasn’t a fight was disappointing.

However, I think a lot less people were disappointed with the entirety of the Modremoth fight. I believe at lot of people like Dragon Stand and in combination with the fight in the personal story it’s much more satisfying over all.

Except this is a game

The dragons obviously functioning as a reset button akin to the wiping out apparently only the sentient life then leaving the world to a new cycle. The dragons won last time the Huron survived by giving up their superior magic that even the mursaat acknowledged while the forgotten and mursaat seemed to have went to alternate existence for the duration.

Dragons have probably scrubbed the earth clean countless times before the Mursaat and thus I completely disagree with the notion that we are magically or technologically superior to the races that were wiped out before us. Logic would be they had the exact same ideas that we had and the only thing different this time around is Glints and aurene and maybe even Gleams involvement. Anything else being the solution just sounds like Anet trying to burn through this dragon story as fast as they could.

Mounts, templates, room, more skills, more weapons, stop tampering with keeping old items valuable and focus on correcting market by adding new items, and a ff14 class changing system because unlike race you class is meaningless in regards to the story.

Also season 1 so people can get more backstory on some of these characters were supposed to care about and of course balancing and making all skills usable underwater.

Seperate the esport and raising mentality from the rest of the game. Players don’t need simple easily recognized small esports ready builds or narrow one trick/task raid builds being the driving forces for the game it just makes for a toxic community.

Oh and clone death returned because it’s a really bad sign when an entire class mechanic is gutted from any game.

My Honest Feedback: GW2 could be epic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Doam.8305

Doam.8305

Say what you want but GW2 is only got off to such a good start due to gw1 and yes even I prefer GW1 to this game as nothing like GW1 is currently on the market. It was a unique game with a unique flavor.

A GW3 would have to rely on gw2 as gw2 relied on gw3. You really don’t see many MMOs going into a third iteration they typically die at the second.

So many abandoned systems in this game and a real imbalance in the reward structure. They start something new and let the old rot and currently I see no difference now. We are still on a raid kick and the game has grown more toxic. More gated and elite the toxic nature of esports couple with the toxic nature of raids and decayed modes and classes means the gw brand probably ends here so I wouldn’t get my hopes up at all for a
GW3.

I agree this game had all the ground work to be epic up there with the other top MMO with millions of players and no need for LFG and Guilds to get anything done. The turning point that I and many people have noticed and still holds this game back is esports.

Race Sex Name Change

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Doam.8305

Doam.8305

Race change gets brought up a lot because the difficulty argument doesn’t work even within the confines of this game. Same goes for things like class change or a multi class voucher on a single toon.

All changes can possibly be deemed difficult but this is a business and these things provide stable revenue once implemented. People may stop buying storage spaces which seems to be the thing to push in this game but people will keep buying contracts to change their main character whenever something starts getting stale. This keeps players playing longer and the revenue will pay for the cost and more things down the road. If we had race change four years ago people would still be buying it today and it would add and allow them to invest more in improving other aspects of the game.

There are some easy methods that don’t rile up a community that can be effective methods to collect revenue. This game barely does any of it relying on things people will cap out on like skins once there set. Customer service is a place this game is severly lacking bag and bank tabs while increasing collectibles just angers everyone you need to get people to spend money because they want to not because they have too.

More slots in the skills bar? Next expa?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Doam.8305

Doam.8305

I agree we need more slots for pve

Gw1 was a game about limited slots and coming up with different and complex builds from what was given. This game is nothing like that because their are two few skills and even their statement about the burden of gw1 skills doesn’t add up since the skills came with expansions and the gap between the amount of skills between gw1 and gw2 is so wide it’s obviously a different philosophy.

In gw2 we have few skills and few options limiting us to very few builds because that makes it easier for esports to limit options.

If we’re not going to get new skills in regard to our core builds that expand rather than make near presets rdy for esports with named specializations.

Then the obvious solution is seperate the esports component from the rest of the game. A very direct way is to increase slots like tc stated as this would be a visual and direct way to tell people this mode is different and the elitist nature has no place in this game mode.

They actually updated water combat and the last dragon the Water dragon was actually fought in underwater combat at the very bottom of the sea. Something akin to wow’s underwater zone of constantly traveling deeper an deeper into the seas with the changing aquatic life changing to signify just how deep you’ve traveled until in the dark depth you fight the actual dragon with Quaggans, Krait, and Largos.

Oh also decent characters I don’t think I’ve ever met a group of more unlikable people than the lot I’ve seen in GW2. Heck people are talking about Jor and Kass and since I met them they’ve literally only been a stereotype whose only purpose is to be a couple and talk about a couple to show how progressive this game is instead of either of them doing anything. Espeicially Kass she exists only to be paired with Majory which is actually kinda bigoted to have a character that serves no other purpose.

Mordy because he planted part of his mind in Trea but probably did the same for Logan and Zohar so Zohar is lich king since mostly everyone hates Logan.

The other is underwater dragon for no other reason it’s obvious that the current staff have a thing against water combat. So either largish send a letter saying they killed it or possessed lorgos with raised land just so post Season 2 Anet doesn’t have to fix water.

Doam.8305

Braham didn’t know Eir so it wasn’t justified especially when others who had closer loved ones had died.

I honestly thought Majory was racist my character is Sylvari and Mordy her dead sister and so forth were tied to Sylvari. She has said some antiSylvari statements as well as other NPCs regarding my race. So since I’m a Sylvari I though she was placing the issues with my entire race on me. Remember minor differences in Hot if played as a Sylvari. If she is treating everyone like that then I guess it’s not due to race and she just truly despises your character for who you are deep down inside.

Basically a team of strangers calling you boss and worshipping you one second instantly wants your head now instead. So who votes we kill the lot of em crept Tiami and Rox then kill Rhytlock if he doesn’t stop being all broody over secrets of a class peeps have no lore behind for months and call it a day?

Malyck

It’s been over four years and nothing so I wouldn’t get my hopes up for filling plot holes.

Even greater than him though is season one their is a massive unavoidable hole in the story for this game regarding new players and that hole is called Season 1.

New players go straight from Zhatian to a bunch of peeps calling them Boss and talking about a dead Sylvari you apparently killed called Scarlet. If there not going to fill in the backstories and whatnot there is no hope. Look at Braham I know him from his interactions with Tiami don’t know a thing about his or any other character prior thus my take on the edgy version is to just end him or chew him out and drop him I have no attachment whatsoever ever to him or the others not a lick of character development probably because I never knew them prior or viewed any introduction. There trying to build a story in which a huge chunk is missing thus filling holes is probably the last thing they’ll do.

Most people don’t care about the story because what story is there beyond the core game? After Zhatian it’s just a jumbled mess that only someone who has been a here since the start of season 1 could hope that ever care about.

I’ve heard this complaint before and it seems Anet has too as they incorporated that rehashing into the actual lore. They even did it in a way that makes more sense than other aspects of Dragon lore like the weaknesses.

Which even that was probably changed from all the jokes about Zhatians weakness being firework displays. Since with the turn they took it means all dragons would share the weaknesses of the previous ones since their connected more now than they were before.

Basically your right but it’s part of the story now and is legit in the confines of the games lore.

And new models of my car have nicer features than my current car.

Seriously old things need to depreciate and new things need to be put in a pedestal. We’d probably have more new legendaries right now and even weapon combinations giving as access to additional legends if Anet only cared about moving forward.

All this backtracking and tinkering with old content and old recipes just holds progress back. If tech companies kept handing out free upgrades for old tech just to keep the value of that old tech comparable to the new tech then people wouldn’t bother with the new tech. If you want to get the base interested in crafting new legends then you stop tinkering with the old ones let their value drop a bit and put all your effort into bigger better new legends. That person rocking and old legend in town isn’t drawing eyes because old legends are easier to craft or plentiful but rather it’s because it’s an OLD legendary.

All this effort updating old legendaries and we don’t even have a full set of new legendaries. Nerf precursor crafting to drain the girders of their mats since that may req for pres or so high they encourage hoarding since you know your going to need all your mats for something eventually. If the bar is set to high many won’t even try. Then release new legends that are superior to the old ones.

One other thing. WHAT IN THE WORLD is the purpose of the water in this zone? OK, I had to go down there to talk to the Quaggan lady. OK, it’s pretty. But really, that’s it? No events? No hidden mastery commune points? No big roaming champions to beat? No hidden tunnels or ruins? Not even a point of interest?

Its almost like the water was included just to have a 3rd “lower level” on the map, and to include it in the trailer. And the enemies down there are THICK, with lots of Veterans too. I appreciate at least having the unbound magic bubbles, but it seems you could have done so much more with the water here. As it stands right now it annoys me when I fall into it accidentally and my Flesh Golem goes on cooldown

I’m not gonna lie I decided to log in and complete this map because of the underwater trailer. I had a glimmer of hope they’d actually balance the classes out with maybe in the future allowing other skills to be used and maybe even an underwater elite for the water dragon unlocking the third weapon. High hopes I know but Mastery/Balance was all I expected turns out they just used it as bait to get more people to log in.

Liked the new map, though the story was a bit barebones here compared to the other ones. Braham…if you wanted to make us hate him enough to kill him off, you’ve done a perfect job of it. Please, if you continue with this, let him fail and then let the commander punch him onto the ground and then tell him the names of everybody who has died since Claw Island who played a role in the story…to hit home that we know better than anybody what it’s like to lose people. Because right now he’s insufferable and I quite literally want to kill him off.

That’s another thing. A.net is having Braham act like we haven’t lost people close to us. We’ve lost many friends on the way, including our closest one in Trahearne (who we had to kill personally). Like Trahearne as a character or not but he was placed as our character’s closest friend throughout the story.

On another note, it seems like Rytlock has taken the role of closest ally or maybe even Caithe considering how she seems starry eyed with you right now because you forgave her. It also seems like Rytlock is the only “adult” in the group.

It makes sense, Rytlock already had to deal with Snaff, so he has cooled down significantly on that front. Which makes me wonder if they’re trying to pull a Rytlock with Braham, with him having to come to terms with the death. He may be projecting blaming himself onto us, even though it was nobody’s fault but Faolain’s.

Caithe we only really forgave I believe because she went through all this crap to protect the egg, so she wouldn’t betray us on that front. Plus if Aurene absorbed most of Mordy’s power, technically she’d be able to control Caithe if necessary.

Little minor differences as a Sylvari I feel Caithe was forgiven since as a Sylvari I understood the nature of the hunt.

As for Aurene controlling Sylvari I don’t think Anet thought of that because the remaining Elder Dragons should also either control Sylvari akin to Mord or create their own hybrid Sylvari.

Also many characters have died who are considered close to people

In Brahams case he was never close to Eir at all so it literally doesn’t make sense in fact out of all the people that have died it seems the ties between him and Eir outside of being biologically related are the weakest of them all.

You know Anet’s rule only Sylvari can die and if another character dies it has to be due to the involvement of a Sylvari making the living characters hate the Sylvari even more than they already do.

I don’t think it’s bait at all his list seems legit
Lazarus will most likely betray and we just trained Aureene so she’ll die as a plot device after they try to establish a connection with the player. Rytlock has indeed been uterly pointless since the Mist thing explaining the class earlier would have helped but it’s been to long and some have lost interest and no longer care about Revenant lore its been months after all.

Oh as for Kass and Jory they only exist as a couple that’s all they do and it’s all their going to do since it’s all they talk about. Two characters whose sole purpose is look how progressive this game is and listen how these characters talk about how progressive this game is as well. Logan is the butt of all jokes and Braham went through character assassination caring about a mother he really didn’t know it would be like if someone called you up on the phone and said your long lost sister/brother died or a cousin died you never met. Braham should have died instead of Eir at least it would make more sense and she was a better character anyway.

So I agree a red wedding is indeed a must they can build a stronger game with the surviving characters.

If it’s not broken why fix it currently we have a map with dead zones because Anets been over-complicating things trying to replace mounts. If anything Majory should lead the Norn she lost someone she actually grew up with and knew hence why she hates me and my race since I’m Sylvari. Braham on the other hand is just shoehorned due to poor writing.

Heck the story would make more sense if Braham died and his mother grieving over lost time and basically abandoning her son redirects her own anger at the dragons since it was fighting the Dragons in the first place that pulled her away from raising her son.

It’s going to be revenant because revs are the most recent class exclusive to those who own HoT.

I think that will be off-set by the fact that because it’s new and exclusive a very high proportion of people who bought HoT will have made one. People always want to check out the new thing.

Not at all despite the pushing for alts most people have a main and that mains been established well before HoT. They may make a Revenant and level it but will the class replace their main? Doubtful you see it in all sorts of different games were a ton of people will try out a new class then after awhile they vanish as people return to their mains. Rev is without a doubt the least seen class currently whenever I play. You may see 1 in a massive zerg in WvW and that’s only because their skills are so flashy that they stand out but it’s still just the few people running around making heir presence known to the larger masses.

I think Eng and Mes are the least played the eng for obvious reason and the mes because it’s a one trick pony that got shot in the foot. It’s only around to complete certain tasks so you’ll see them around but after their task is done they get tossed out so while many may have a Mesmer in order to do such and such I don’t think many actually main that Mesmer.

GW2 has a higher percentage of players raiding than other MMO’s because other MMO’s offer a balance of things for players to do. Anet creates a mode then abandons it the fraction of players doing anything doesn’t matter to all that because if people quit WvW and other modes for lack of upkeep and lowers the pool of course the precentage of raiders would go up.

They have a really nasty habit of focusing on only one group at a time.

That’s partially or even mainly because there is no Season 1 offered to you.

For instance I don’t care at all about those teammates I don’t feel a connection to a single one of them with maybe the exception of Rhytlock and Tiami and even then I don’t care.

Rhytlock is easy he was part of the dungeon and story modes so everyone more or less got a proper introduction to him. I started this game during season 1 and the only character introduction I’ve been around for was Tiami so I can understand her calling me boss sorta but everyone else doesn’t make any sense. New players literally don’t have a first arc to the seasonal stories as there is no Season 1 to bridge the gap. You go straight from Zhatian into some sort of amnesia only coming out of it to a bunch of strangers calling you boss in a strange location backtracking a character you know nothing about as you traverse the land.

Any other company probably would have been on top of this the game has existed for over four years now. It kills player immersion and destroys player retention to have a big chunk of story missing I know people who quit the game straight out since they were in it for the story but apparently a massive whole exists in that story.

As for the dragon you came in late back then we had groups to explain it since you really don’t get that great of an explanation. The sheer fact people have to ask around in the first place is problematic I’d explain the dragon but to be honest I don’t remember the mechanics that well other than lighting all the flames and damaging the dragon.

Spells used to have a bit more kick but then since viewers need to see whats going on in their Esports Anet toned down the visual clutter for that reason.

Like most things like balance, skills, and even underwater it all goes back to E-sports their not going to improve the visuals for the same reason their not going to add more base skills. They gutted clone death from the game and pushed the entire build to shatter then gave the chrono and extra shatter making it strictly betterthan the mesmer because the chrono doesn’t take away or changes anything from the Mesmer but rather adds on to it’s existing capabilities.

You don’t create an elite like the chrono unless you planned for elites to be superior. Some people think the next ones will be in line with the old but their is no precidence for such a thing the new surpassed the old and the only evidence we have is what we have seen and felt so it we can only predict more of the same until they show us something to counter these claims. Their word doesn’t matter because they stated the first elites would be on par which they weren’t. So more than likely the next elites will surpass the old elites just like the old elites surpassed the core.

Because a stronger and overall superior class locked behind a paywall is the easiest way to get people to pay to get over that paywall. They’ll either nerf the currents into the ground when HoT becomes free or raise the new one ever so higher during that time.

Underwater was a selling point it was something that literally set this game apart and people flocked to this game for this unique style of gameplay.

I don’t think people “flocked to this game” for UW combat — I certainly didn’t.

If you search around the forums I’m sure you’ll find posts from years ago asking to remove it.

It was and when I say selling point I mean pre-launch meaning your not going to find the proper posts on this website. Post-launch people wanted under water to be balanced and after asking for it for so long they started to ask for its removal. Gw2 launched over four years ago and back then the only game with even an ounce of effort in underwater was WoW and GW2 seemed to be surpassing WoW in this category. Thus of everything GW2 had to offer the thing that stood out the most and made this game stand out above all the other MMOs and thus a point of discussion was Underwater.

You had people coming from gw1 and people coming for underwater the others who came for combat were split between because of other games trying to reinvent combat like Tera. This was also one of the few games that started without a sub while other had to drop their sub which got people in. Basic point is water combat was a very clear point of entry and a very clear marketing point there was no competition.

As for the other posts in this topic it’s been over four years and it’s beyond obvious the Anet has no intention and probably loathes underwater beyond all else. All people wanted was balance but when Anet started with thief destructive Esport kick underwater was one of the first casualties because like with them toning down our visual skills it’s not easy for the esport related crowds to watch. So it was never balanced or skills added and was removed from PvP. I’ve never seen a company show the level of disrespect for their own product that Anet has shown underwater.

It’s better to imagine an underwater dragon fight in which you had free roam in 3D space than have Anet get involved and ruin it.

Underwater was a selling point it was something that literally set this game apart and people flocked to this game for this unique style of gameplay.

Over four years later they removed it from pvp, pvp lobby, and underwater legends were canceled well before the normal legendaries. Half our skills still don’t work underwater and class balance remains more broken under the water than above it. Underwater didn’t fit in with their esports plans and it’s been systematically weakened time and time again.

We even had an expansion completely devoid of water outside of a cramped tunnel in TD which wasn’t even combat related. Underwater is like clone death for mesmer though the devs couldn’t simply delete underwater from the game like they did with clone death. The game is over 4 years old there stance on water is clear the trailer for new maps showed swimming in two short segments and two fish most likely akin to water in fire islands being a coastal area so there forced to have some water.

I’d like the water dragon too but Anets stance on water changes my opinion the water dragon will probably beach itself in the desert or get killed by another dragon just so anet doesn’t have to fix and balance underwater.

No class is more fitting for joke weapons than the Mesmer that said mesmers need the dreamer.

Pistol phantasms should also use quip effects or something since mesmers only have 2 pistol skills.

Right, because I wouldn’t be lost at all if I insta level boosted a character in another MMO without ever trying it before and then going straight for max level content.

Of course you wouldn’t get lost because other games just scale numbers for world maps their difficulty is found in raids, dungeons, and PvP. Your going to be hard pressed to find anyone outside of this game blaming the guy over open world map style questing.

The difference between this and other boosted games is while in wow you get boosted you get the gear and enter the map and your good you can learn and make mistakes even spamming a single skill to get by can work in open maps. In Gw2 you boost and get your gear and your stuck staring down pocket raptors and your mistakes are that some skills are completely and utterly worthless for the content.

Gw2 isn’t as user friendly as the other games the recent poor earning reports aren’t simply do to people quitting out of dislike for HoT but also because retention rates for new people must have also dropped as well.

So basically a guy wanted to play a game how he wanted and everyone yelled at him about this isn’t a game to play how you like. Rather a game that only has a few viable builds a ton of worthless unsupported skills and traits that lock you into specific weapon/skill choice. Also pushed guild and lfg usage along with collections upon collections on top of further grinding and hoarding if you want to get anything decent.

Of course this game is hard to get into for a new player it’s been that way since they pushed esports and started killing and straight out removing builds for the sake of esports not caring about the balance in other parts of the game.

The tried harder content it was called HoT and the earnings report right now is so bad thta even Aion is doing better than us and HoT cut their earning in half. At this point people like TC asking for harder content are trying to kill the game right out. Esports and flipping the core design philosophy to a more hardcore one bleed profits like nothing else and yet people are still trying to go for harder content in order to put this poor game out of it’s misery.

You can’t have hardcore content without trinity and this game wasn’t designed with trinity in mind and thus wasn’t designed for hardcore content.

Phospholuminescent Infusion 5000g?

Doam.8305

The economy for this game is broken

People place items on the TP to what they desire at first and people buy it however there is no time limit to how long an item can be on the shop.

Some people put this infusion in the TP for an over the top amount and some people undercut them and put it in at a cheaper amount. Obviously the cheaper ones sold and with each sell the price would double and triple to the next infusion on the market. The issue is the horrible RNG in this game keeping incoming supply to a trickle it may take awhile for new items to be found and when they go to the TP to sell they will see the highest price people weren’t willing to pay. This 5000g and they will think this is the normal price and also place their own item at that average whether it sells or not doesn’t matter because both these new items priced at 5000g and the old items at 5000g that no one wanted to buy will remain on the TP forever since their is no auction timer. This is the worst Auction house I’ve ever seen and it’s only because it lacks an auction timer.

Worst yet Anet is fine with the constant drum beat shooting higher to the sky and the lack of an auction timer because people will buy real gems to convert to gold to buy these crazy expensive items. An auction timer is a gold sink because you still have to pay gold to put up an item even if it doesn’t sell which forces you to rethink the price cut it down and repost the item. It removes some gold from the economy, lowers the overall price of Auction Hall items, and allows the supply and demand to flow naturally and effect prices to greater results.

But as stated Arenanet only cares that you pull out your credit card and buy gems to convert to gold in order to complete your inflated purchases.

Inspections breath elitism like they have in every single MMO they’ve been in they also reinforce the neckdecking mentality of minmaxing instead of personal choice this game has suffered enough at elitism.

No map in these game needs vehicles/mounts more than desert borderlands but the outrage did its job and we got Alpine back.

Game desperately needed duels but it won’t happen this game isn’t balanced for 1v1 and forcing people to pay for private pvp maps for 1v1 is there plan.

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

One word:

Elitism.

And this is why the game, which prospered so much at launch, didn’t feature any kind of “elite” or arbitrarily “difficult” content. And also part of why, HoT, an expansion featured as pleasing the “hardcore” crowd has failed in the eyes of a bulk majority of players when looking at sheer numbers.

Strictly speaking, not many people care. And those that do are likely too exclusive to not care about anyone not involved in their personal affairs.

I totally agree. I am not as sure what exactly goes on between the community and company, but this makes sense because I could always tell that their must have been and still is either a bigger population of challenge seekers or said group is small but just more important customers. I really wish there was a choice so that some, if they wanted, could roam and solo and feel great about their gaming skills even if they don’t have the time to practice 24/7. I am too loyal to the game, lore, characters, and world however to stop playing…even though I many times feel outplayed and unable to achieve the things I want to without help. But Tyria is just so beautiful and fun to be a part of that I’ll live with my apparent squishy deficiency lol, but doesn’t mean I don’t hope they’ll do something about it in the end. Sidenote: If they come out with Tengu as a playable class, I may not even care about the unfairness because I’ll be so happy to be a bird! xD Haha, much love! <3

Oh my goodness oh mighty Necromancer who has risen this dead post from the grave I bow to you.

You are right but these posts are from April and it’s the distant month of November now and the damage done by elitism has already showed itself as earning have been cut in twain only the game which destroyed itself from focusing on Raids the once known Wildstar is below us. The elitists hobble from corner to corner ruining every game with their order of knights little can be done at this point I’m afraid. This land has gotten to old and to little has been done over these four long years too many bridges burned and E-sports jokes made the knights have more or less vanished and the kingdom rots.

Take care Necromancer the roads of these boards are quite vacant as well compared to how they once were there activity has dwindled sharply from those times of yore. The trolls and knights have since passed only the ghosts of old reminiscing about what could have been remain these these days….

We tried asking for more difficult content and raids before and lets just say…

They failed on both accounts for raids we didn’t start really hammering the need home until after Tower of Nightmares because that’s how raiding in this game should have been.

As for difficult content in GW1 we had the story path to which you basically had an easy time playing the core story. Then you had maps that the story path didn’t even touch at all and those were the difficult maps the ones people had to pay runners to traverse through. They gave us HoT instead which was way to hard to be on any sort of story path and way to easy to be deemed difficult content. Hot should have had additional maps not tied to the story with greater difficulty and people who only wanted to complete the story wouldn’t have to run through pocket raptors and smokescales.

Tons of people did quit and there are indeed less people on these very forums. Some still don’t understand that the story path for HoT was way to difficult in regards to any game as other games know to use roads and fewer mobs on the paths main story campaigns take through a map.

The fact they haven’t fixed it or done something as simple as move a few pocket raptor mobs to different parts of the map speaks volumes about Anet.

the raid maps as well and lvling world updates are hots maps tho :/

Raid maps don’t count they’re only Raid maps if you could walk solo into a raid map akin to lets say Tower of nightmares and have some high risk and high reward scaleable world pve gameplay with maybe some sort of Vanquish mechanic for number of kills before you get killed or something it would count.

The new maps still require you to tread through the old maps its tied together through story. New players will not only have no idea about teh story since they missed season one and only got a scarlet recap having no idea about the character calling you boss seconds after killing Zhaitan. They also have to go through season 2 and HoT. The only character I know the introduction for is Tiami since I played the marionette section I have no connection to the others or have any will to look up their histories because they will always remain empty shells. HoT is a failure on all levels polishing up the back end doesn’t change the fact they have to retain players making their way through the front end. Which according to a near split in their earnings report isn’t working out to well.

Suggestion: Rebalance Legendary Journey

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Doam.8305

Doam.8305

Legendaries are supposed to get easier and forgotten with an expansion as new Legendaries come into the market.

We really didn’t get a full set of legendaries but most people made legends when the game launched and they were dirt cheap. The new legendaries feel worthless because the old legionaries require so much work to acquire. It also destroys our market to have Anet artificially keeping the price up everything depreciates in this world and its what keeps our economy intact.

If the government kept every car that was ever released at it’s initial price point and removed all depreciation that would mess up the economy as bad as gw2’s. It’s more expensive to craft some legendaries than it is to straight up buy them and that’s before including time and labor.

Your exppensive purchases mean something when you buy them but mean nothing years down the line the presitige of old legendaries should be over who cares if you see a Bifrost or whatever. The prestige should come from the new items the people demanding the in game world remain frozen in time are part of the problem with this game. Someone crafted Eureka and I congratulated them in town the other day but the value of that mace will decrease in time just like everything else and trying to force it to remain prestigious for year will only bring ruin which it kinda has already for GW2.

A few things wrong with your post.

1. Depreciation only occurs when things lose quality over time. Like the new car you bought in 2010 not being worth the same amount it was when you go to sell it 6 years later because it’s got wear and tear. Some things actually appreciate in price (go up) over time if they are maintained: art is a good example. Legendary weapons do not lose quality over time. They don’t suddenly become exotic or masterwork rarity just because they’re 2 years old. Therefore any price drop you think they should have would not be due to depreciation.

2. You’re assuming that ANet wants the older legendaries to be forgotten. Maybe they wanted to add options to the table for skins with legendary effects. So that if a player wants a legendary and wants to show it off, they have a choice on which skin they want. And considering one way to get them is to take out your credit card, buy gems, convert to gold, to buy the legendary off of the Trading Post, I wouldn’t put it past ANet to not want the old ones to be forgotten. You shouldn’t also. Because that helps you get more gems for your gold.

3. They were dirt cheap in the beginning because players didn’t have the gold to list them on the TP for the prices they list for today. And they knew other players didn’t have the gold to buy them.

4. You’re assuming that players obtain legendary weapons for the prestige. I’m working on crafting mine because I need a long term goal to work toward. Once I finish my precursor, I’ve got my legendary. And then I’ll likely choose a new legendary weapon to work towards. And it won’t depreciate in value to me because I didn’t make it for everyone to ooo and aaaah over and tell me how special I am because I have a legendary.

Or

For Anet to leave them be and let the market to decide where they fall
They revamped a number of base game recipes for instance cloth was more expensive than leather and ore because it was used for more than making just cloth clothing unlike the other two. Anet stepped in and changed things around to give them more value.

It’s not a hard concept you create something and you leave it be the natural flow of the market should determine the price. Legendaries wouldn’t be half as expensive as they are now if Anet would leave them be even precursor crafting was set to the bloated market price. Then certain precursors who were more expensive to craft actually went up in price since peopel didn’t want to take a cut. Furthermore items shouldn’t be up on the market indefinitely either as it has a clogging effect on proper trade. Prices are easier to go up than they are to decline since auctions are eternal and never end.

Anet has tinkered with and destroyed this games economy for years now all in the name of keeping ascended and legendary items high in the market and not at their true prices.

None of the things you listed have anything to do with depreciation even wear and tear is due to wear and tear. Any item will depreciate even if you bought it mint in the box or used after its production date. As for the prices going up that’s would be more akin to year 1 halloween skins that are unobtainable and out of print

Focusing on Raids and tossing everyone under the bus worked out so well for Wildstar

GW2 just needs to dbl down on raids just like them and hammer up a ton more E-sports and trash their playerbase more because they deserve to be for daring to call HoT half and expac. Also more economy tinkering to keep really old legendaries valuable because like computers and cars their value must never depreciate and thus must be forced in a higher position.

Also older games like Aion or more NCSoft while Gw2 is pretty much governed more on the Anet side of things. The offerings in the other games more tied to the head offer more balanced gameplay while Arenanet with it’s Esports and raids have tossed people under the bus. Every single thing people have complained about regarding HoT is completely legit t was the final straw that broke the camels back many problems existed in core gw2 but people plowed forward thinking things would get better but it hasn’t and all these issues kept on pilling up until HoT and then snap the people left. The older games have existed this long and have a brighter future than this game I still can’t beleive they’ve decided to take the same actions that destroyed Wildstar and just like Wildstar the blind defenders cheered them every step of the way until its death. People will still push and cheer this game in the wrong direction until its 20 feet under.

On Size and Expansion vs Substance

HoT maps may have been smaller when viewed from the world map but they had considerably more going on within them than core maps.

Hot maps may look smaller and they may seem larger due to it’s vertical nature. However a simple look at the first map shows the problems with that statement within minutes of exploring. Most of the ground floor you can’t explore nothing but veins that will instantly kill you. The mid is filled with holes to allow people to get to the bottom pockmarked across the entire map it creates a series of hallways. The top area is are a few floating land marks in the clouds with primarily empty skies. The amount of non traversable or empty space along with constant narrow passages more than puts the original maps above them. Even more so that we can glide in the original maps.

Even desert borderland falls flat due to locking people in paths among other things

[Discussion] Your Main Issues With The Game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Doam.8305

All MMO’s have grind and that’s what keep players playing. GW2 has far less grind than other games and the grind that we have is for the most part optional. HoT is hardly a grind unless you make it out to be one.

Error

Gw2 has grinds for even the smallest of rewards

People like to be rewarded in games and in other MMO’s a simple task may unlock a skin and the loot tables for mobs are quit massive dropping all sorts of goods. Their are easy rewards and their are grindy rewards whether it’s cosmetic or not doesn’t matter as long as the player feels they are being rewarded.

Games like WoW and FF14 have grinds yes but not all their rewards require heavy grinds in fact you can get mounts and mini pets just for playing the main story through.

GW2 has grinds and collections on top of collections you may think your getting a reward but that item is actually part of a collection that serves no purpose other than being part of a collection. Even the most mundane of items can take days of grinding to collect. The reward system for GW2 doesn’t vary it’s either an RNG so horrendously small that items like Queen bee end up being sold well beyond the price range of your typically player. Also that people will literally grind gold instead of crafting or trying to roll the dice or the item is pilled under bags and bags of items used to unlock multiple collections then requiring a heavy gold and mat deposit to get anywhere.

GW2 falls under the modern korean grinder in terms of its reward structure it will never reach higher numbers of that of more open MMO’s with the stance the developers have taken especially with HoT.

GW2 - Would you like to turn the clock back?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Doam.8305

Heck yeah it’s not like we have living world season 1 or anything

Turn back the clock of time into an alternate world where GW2 was instead and improved and updated game based on the core systems of GW1. My favorite class was Paragon and the least represented class from GW1 is indeed the Paragon whose primary mechanics are basically non-existant outside a single skill in this game.

In the end I rolled Mesmer for GW2 based on clone death and the idea of stealth in open daylight through clones. Then that entire mechanic was gutted from the game and clones have been heavily outclasses ever since.

What we got in HoT was disgusting and still needs work the current LA doesn’t match up with the designs of anything in the game the old LA held the game together in both lore and design. They’d have to revert way to many things for me to give them anymore money out of my pockets in fact they’ve gotten zip since HoT. So yes please I’d like for the clock to be reset at least to give us back old LA.

I logged in just to say everyone does have good ideas to improve the game.

The issue is these improvement request have existed since launch and people have posted for things like templates since launch. Those people quit cause nothing ever happens and all these new players see the exact same problems with the exact same solution day in and day out till they to leave. Dungeons, fractals, wvw, pvp, raids, and so forth along with the never ending drive to toss all of those modes under the bus in the name of esports.

Point being they don’t sit on anything long enough or even try to fix anything as a long term commitment. Look at underwater combat people just wanted it balanced and their skills usable and Anet removed it from pvp, stopped underwater legends well before normal legends, and HoT barely has a lick of water the most we got were underwater caverns in TD.

It’s a mindset really and these modes like dungeons and so forth are forgotten by anet for the next big thing they want to implement. Personally I I think the foundation needs repaired before another mode is introduced and I’d have to say dungeons over fractals because dungeons at least progress the main story. Your not going to have a generic mode for raids or fractals that exists solely to introduce the player to the mode and progress the story.
