I absolutely felt completely satisfied with this spec. And that hasn’t been the case since I could still play double ranged shatter power mesmer :p

Had extreme success with this and a few variations of this tonight. Only a few Holosmiths and S/D Daredevils gave me trouble 1v1. I really underestimated the healing signet against the new heal…which the cast time of the new heal got me killed 9/10 times.

I used hammer instead of greatsword with the stun/boon removal trait for AoE team fights or defensive moments and pulled off a handful of clutch plays in sPvP. Copying conditions to the enemy from a Full Counter is a great feeling.

Full Counter>Dagger burst>dagger #3 (immobilize on daze trait)>dagger #4>wait for heal attempt>hammer knockdown (any)>remove boons with utility (sword icon)

Aye I used it with hammer as well, tho prefer greatsword for it’s mobility thus survival.
That greatsword combined with the dagger leaps can get you out of nasty situations.

I love how warrior actually takes some thought now. I don’t get all the rant. As I stated on another topic:

Core warrior is better than this. Resistance is NOT condi clear… I dont think you guys realize that scourge has AOE boon corruption

There’s something like… don’t get in the aoe’s..
Dodge perhaps? Besides that the condi duration is so low you can easily cover it with resistance.

Besides that, people do not realise how powerfull full counter can be.
I’d gladly take you on my spellbreaker against you on a core warrior.
We’ll see how that turns out.

Warrior actually takes tought and counterplay, instead of mindlessly relying on passives.
A playstyle a lot of warriors aren’t used to. (I used to main mesmer, but big lol at mirage) Pretty sure I’ll be swapping over to spellbreaker for the seasons to come.

Running the 64-bit client seems to make every thing extremely dark tho,
I don’t know what exactly I’m doing wrong, maybe it’s something in the graphic settings (I’m not at all that good with processors and how they’re supposed to work, but figured out the 64-bit client was suited for my macbook pro)

I can’t take a screenshot from it as the shortcut doesn’t work. But imagine a very very very dark shadowy texture, tho it’s more detailed than running with 32-bit.

Edit: could take a screenshot now + Loading maps seem to take ages.. :/

Anything they do there will always be someone complaining. I’m happy to see them try new things.

This is different though. This is something they added to the game that nobody asked for or needed, and that only creates more issues while providing no added value.

It’s only natural for players to be curious as to why something so ridiculous was added. When I read it, it felt like I was reading April Fool’s patch notes.

I am really curious to hear from Anet on why they thought this was a good idea.

You can switch class in match so……

when you try to switch class during the match, a message pops up saying, “doing this will put you on a 16 minute time out” or something like that. Maybe you used to be able to change classes mid match, but you can’t anymore. I did try.

you can switch class when you loaded into match but before actual match started

You only get credit for the win with the class you actually played on.

I’ll explain you what he means what could possibly happen:
Say, I’m bronze tier on my thief. I queue up as a thief and get into a match against other bronzes. Before the match starts, I swap to mesmer, where I’m in platinum tier with.

I gain credit on my platinum mesmer for beating bronze players. #ezwin

There is a clear difference in winning against a gold rated enemy team and a diamond rated enemy team. If you don’t believe me, watch a stream of someone really high up the ladder and watch their rotations.

I play as a Condi Ele and this is my first time PvPing. I got placed in high Gold almost Plat. I have only been playing for 3 months, so dont know how the previous seasons were, but as a Condi Ele sometimes I dominate the field, sometimes Im getting my booty handed to me.

I need some guidance here.

I’ve just recently (in WvW) run into several rangers that have an unexplainable ability to repeatedly root me and nuke me with conditions. Instantly.
It seems like all in one shot, I’m rooted and have 5-6 conditions on me.
Ok, no worries, cleansed… 10-15 seconds later, I’m in the same situation.
The ranger’s HPs seem to hold up against my attacks, but their conditions tear me apart.

I’m not a pro-level player or anywhere close, but I can usually hold my own 1v1 against most opponents.

This just isn’t the case here.

Can somebody help me here? Every time I run into one of these rangers, i’m dead. They have more mobility so, I can’t even turn and run…

Is it just me or are you just completely in the wrong forum section?
WvW is one down mate..

Mesmer and thief have been vastly OP for almost the entire life of the game.

Hi Welcome to the Gw2 forums, I regret to inform you that criticism of these classes isn’t allowed here on the forums. Instead, please opt to complain about the classes that counter these classes as they are truly the OP ones. Mes and Teef should have zero counters.

Sarcasm aside, both Thief and Mesmer had periods they were trash. On the flip side, You have seen nothing… OG PU Memser, Permastealth Thief were virtually unkillable or straight up unkillable , and Launch Thief and Launch Mesmer were capable of oneshots from stealth all under a second. And confusion was so broken back then you may as well /sit if you see a Mesmer gracious enough not to oneshot you from stealth. That said, I can live with what we have now…. literally.
But heyYour right at the moment, at least for Mantra Mesmer and SB 4... I can't be the only one irritated by the daze, poison and PI?

In what world does a Mesmer run mantra’s..? That has been a loooong while ago lad..

Only custom arenas. We don’t have plans to support a 2v2 game mode with a queue.

A Stronghold Rework?

The biggest barrier for me is the reliance on NPCs to make progress in the mode. Remove that need and make all the actions focused around the players.

If you think Conquest is just a chicken dance around a circle with occasional zerging from point to point, then you truly don’t understand the game mode.

Conquest is an old, repetitive gamemode but it’s not without strategy or skill. I can write a novel longer than the OP’s post explaining each class’s roles, their rotations, team strat and team comp. I’ve reached Legendary/Diamond in every season by playing just one class, majority soloQ, since Season 2.

It’s too bad that Stronghold and Courtyard’s TDM was such a bust. But these two game modes failed because they heavily lacked strategy compared to Conquest.

Welp if it were a viable good pvp mode then ESL would have worked. Conquest is not competitive pvp only for teefs and trap guards its pvp. When your forced to circle dance, hold hands, and zerg one another at the middle it’s not remotely competitive. Why take 20 to 30 seconds to walk to dance on a circle and have a teef take it away right after? Why not make some Deathmatch maps like gw1 and have real pvp play.

Conq is just a joke mode they pushed thru and now they are stuck with it while pvp dies and withers away. Unranked stronghold is the funnest thing to play. Least one or 2 baddies doesn’t ruin a game. You can carry a team if smart.

Imbalance and powercreep killed ESL, not conquest.

The wisdom of the makers, let’s instead of maybe sticking with a game mode that works in like a previous game they made but somehow forgot about. Cough gw1 Cough. How about we make the players dance a bit.

Now we all dance in a circle kind of like this:

If you think conquest is only circle dancing you’re pretty wrong tho bud.

Being around since gw2 drop i can call it circle dancing because that’s what it is. Pvp is not run to a circle and hold it. Pvp is kill the fer before he kills you.. Not “oh no i must now run to a point to save the game”

Bottom line is yes it is just circle dancing, zerg the middle while a teef rotates off point zzzzz. Stonghold is more fun

Conquest is the most unskillful mode in the world. Unless your a teef its a crap mode, unless you have a full team you know then one bad pug will ruin a game for you, circle dancing is circle dancing. I cant count how many times i heard “Rush middle” or hold middle. Sitting on a circle or fighting over a circle just to have a teef decap it after 10 seconds is a joke. If anyone thinks conquest is actual pvp compared to lets say deathmatch courtyard. They are truly new to the game. The one issue since gw2 drop in pvp is a anet pushed a cruddy game mode and now have no chance at making it competitive unless its all solo que no 2 team or 5 team and they fix the problem with game throwing such as in season 5 and 6 so buddies will win.

Deathmatch just works. kill them and hey look you win no need to sit and circle dance.

You should never ‘sit’ on a circle.
You can anticipate on a thief decapping a point.
The whole point of a team oriented game mode is to play as a team.

Tuning ranked down to duoqueue only was the dumbest decision ever.
Good communication and rotations win the game (in an ideal scenario where everyone knows his/her class and role)

You’re still doing something wrong.

Reveal is a poor example to prove your point. Reveal should be in the game, it isn’t spammable and should require timing. Which abilities/traits should have it; that’s another discussion. I don’t believe it should be on Spear of Justice, that ability already does too much. Another prime example of over bloat/budget.

It’s also not my job to comment on EVERY single issue. You have just as much ability to bring up the topic as anyone else. If you would have, I more than likely would have commented to the same affect as I did in this.

The whole point is that your nerf suggestion only would make sense if other issues get addressed as well. The danger in you only addressing one issue, is it getting fixed, yet the other issues remain → a class becomes unplayable.

There are plenty of people who actually take their time to point out an issue in this game IN COMPARISON with all the other issues. Rather than ranting on about one issue (that isn’t even as big as all the others).

And now I rest my case. Feel like I’ve been talking to a wall. Cheers.

I gotta say, it feels really bad to use your 25s cooldown 2s immobilize and have it just broken instantly by a thief or warrior with a dodge or movement skill. It’s like .. why do I even bother?

The immobs were mosty designed back when the game launched and you had to use a condi cleanse to get out, or else wait the full duration (and they aren’t very long).

Yeah and where a necro would save his poison field for a low warrior.
With other words → does not exist anymore. Less interactive play, less counterplay.

If you want to talk how a design failed, can’t you see there’s more that has to be fixed?

Honestly I probably wouldn’t have a problem giving thief a bit more stealth.
When stealthed they don’t cap points.
They can run away already so I don’t care if they do it while stealthed or while being visible
Stealth is also predictable to a certain degree because if you know the class you also got a general idea of when the stealth attack will approximately hit.
Giving thief more access to stealth makes revealed a much more skillful to use counter which, let’s be honest, at the moment it really isn’t.

Giving more stealth won’t make it more viable otherwise trap thief would be a thing…. the whole reason why SA is not a thing anymore is because reveal and aoe was handled like candy to every class (dh traps, mes wells, engi hammer, druid avatar just to name few, ranger/dh/necro/engi/rev/war have access to reveal, some of them are meta – it is just crazyyyyy). If those were reduced and reveal on demand mechanics were changed/removed from some spells (e.g. target doesn’t get revealed but just gets a marked while remaining stealthed so they could still profit from stealth traits like SE) then stealth would be more a viable option. Reveals/aoe vs stealth as they are atm are just 100% hardcounter, there is nothing in between so no amount of stealth would help.

This guy just throws words together in hopes of it making a point. You can’t even read through the sheer bias of his posts without rolling your eyes.

Even tho he (mains?) thief (biased) and I don’t (mesmer – not biased) I agree with him.
Thief is fine. Dash being able to break out of soft cc is exactly the point of running a thief. You want to be quickly in and out fights, from one point to another.

Take that away and you’ll take the role thief has away. Simple as that. If a thief doesn’t have an escape, he’s a sitting duck.

So by that logic, thieves that don’t use dash shouldn’t exist. Guess what? They do. So stop with the, “you’ll take the role thief has away” nonsense. They would still have the best mobility in the game and multiple ways to address immobilizes.

My perspective is not limited to a small amount of games on some professions.

Are you suggesting mine is? To be clear, neither is mine. Played since release, with a well balanced amount of games spread over the classes. With most of them on mesmer, obviously, otherwise it wouldn’t be my main.

That being said, name me one other meta build without dash that got used by thief since the release of HoT. (and nope, staff thief wasn’t meta)

The only thing that could make your arguments valid, is that when daredevil gets a nerf like that, everything else recieves a nerf as well. ONLY THEN a thief has enough mobility. Because back before HoT, you didn’t have all the power creep and aoe spam.

Back then thief had enough mobility compared to all the other classes. If you’d try that right now, there we are again, a sitting duck. If you struggle against a thief BECAUSE HE CAN CLEANSE IMMOB WITH DASH → l2p. Please.

Maining mesmer. Heard the cry over thief a few thousand times now. You could fill an ocean with salty tears. Thief is finally somewhat near the design it should be.

Dash doesn’t have ‘OP’ issues, you just don’t know how to handle it. As a mesmer, thief is probably one of the classes you should be scared about, yet, I do not cry about it. It’s a l2p issue really.

And I’m looking for a guild. I pretty much played PvP since release, but shinies.
Therefor, I’m looking for a guild that is laid back and into Raids/fractals.

My experience with fractals is optimal, when it comes to raiding, I’ve succesfully completed VG and Escort a few times, but that’s about it. I’m looking to get more actively into Raids. I main mesmer, but so far my Druid and Engi are Raid ready.
(will get mesmer ready soon enough, because Mesmarrrr <3 )

I am not attracted by WvW anymore because obvioulsy the devs don’t really care about the mode.

Which made a way better and healthy PvP environment. The current system encouraged “me, me, me” and “I, I, I” way too much. And no matter being toxic, friendly, winning or losing, you’ll get the rewards anyhow, at the end of the day.

I repeat myself, as I have done many times before.. Why.. the hell.. would you make a team oriented game mode solo/duoqueue? It ruined the mentality and the whole PvP scene. And don’t tell me something like “uh, because there was no competition back then”, because, really, is there now?

You couldnt be more wrong.

It has nothing to do with solo and duo queue.

It has everything to do with lacking popularity of pvp in and GW2 as a whole. This results in poor matchmaking and conflicts of interests. People who grind for achs, do dailies, are there for the first time and people who try to be competetive are all in the same games.

THIS creates tension.

I’ll give you an example of how ‘wrong’ I am.
I’m starting a match, I say stuff like ‘Hey guys, have fun, be kind to each other’, while a guardian on our team replies with ‘I hate GW2 PvP’. He runs to our home node and stays there for the rest of the match. (Besides that one time the home node got actually pushed and he stood idle and died)

He intentionally screwed up the game. The fact that I’m not being able to do anything about it, as I’m not able to queue up with my friends, and a report has the same effect as a drop in the ocean,

THAT creates tension.

I repeat myself, as I have done many times before.. Why.. the hell.. would you make a team oriented game mode solo/duoqueue? It ruined the mentality and the whole PvP scene. And don’t tell me something like “uh, because there was no competition back then”, because, really, is there now?

Mesmer isn’t underpowered. It’s risky, yeah and probably not suited for ‘fairly new players’. But it’s nowhere near underpowered.

Oh I think majority of people already have some of those ready. For example: “Thief close.” is pretty common one.

I’m and idealist so sometimes I type: “Pls don’t wipe mid at start.”
Sometimes they listen.

In all seriousness, I don’t think writing a tip at the start of match will help that much. If you get team that needs to be told that it’s better to leave point than die on it, then you’ve already lost the game.

“Thief close” is a pretty dumb one as well. As soon as your home point gets pushed and your thief is capping it, you either have to give up the cap, or your thief fights a fight that takes way too long. I’m really done hearing ‘thief close’ at the start of a match. Instantly dumbs down the one who wrote it.

Thief is actually pretty bad at 1v1 roaming. Most thieves run full zerk build and rely on deleting you on their first opening. After that, they can only run and reset. Also, its very unlikely to delete roamers unless they are bad or run bad builds, so no, not op.

So what you say is that he can reset the fight if everything goes wrong. And he can do this three to four times while his opponent can’t.
So yes, thief is pretty strong in roaming due to his abilities to reset fights, escape fights and the damage he deals – more than any other class in wvw.

What is this gibberish about wvw? This is the PvP forum mister.

I had to go vote yes. Because why would we not want fair match ups and leaderboards reflecting your “true skill”, through linking it to the class you main.

The poll wasn’t about class stacking. People who took 10 seconds to think realized that and voted “No”.

There’s been a matchmaking factor for unique profession, but it’s always been turned off or set low. When it was enabled, it generated worse and slower matches compared to letting players fix their groups once they loaded in.

If a profession is stacked because it’s really good (usually because it’s easy to play compared to how well it performs), then it’s a balance problem, not a matchmaking problem.

It’s indirectly leading to avoiding class stacking tho. People who took 10 seconds to think realized that and voted ‘Yes’.

People also are afraid of class-stacklimit because it would make queue times longer.
Anet can also implent a code where class-stacklimit increase from 1 to 2 after a 4-5mins queue.

TL;DR all the stuff people are afraid about can be fixed by Anet in the longrun, but they don’t want to take the risk of voting “yes”.

Can’t say much more than ‘Aye, agree’. I hope people start choosing quality over quantity.

That aside, honestly, did the previous season reflect ‘skill’? Duo/soloqueueing has been more a pain than it has been an improvement. We can’t get around this, if the mechanics of the game mode depend so much on teamwork, there’s no way you can show of individuals as the ‘better’. But you can show a team as the ‘better’. Just like ESL’s did, like ToL did. The only way to reflect individual skill, would be to make an entirely different gamemode. And I don’t see that happening anywhere soon.

A few months ago they came up with a poll about wether pvp should be restricted to to solo/duo queue only. And I was stunned by the fact so many people voted yes for that.
(I’d like to remind you this is a team based competitive game mode)

Perma stealth thieves. Its pure bullkitten that someone could decap/cap a point, or even just contest it for that matter, if you can’t even see them. Being forced to lay down an AoE skill, which not all classes even have one that can cover an entire node for that matter, just to “fight” because you can’t see them is stupid and broken.

You aren’t “forced” to put down an AOE just to fight, you can hit a thief in stealth with any skill if you aim it right, even ranged AA chains. Also, the thief cannot fight you back lest he’s risking being revealed and bursted down, so you can just cleave them and whiltle them down just as you would any other “bunker”, since most build surely can out-DPS SR’s healing. Or, you can force them off the point or out of stealth with controll skills .

I challenge you to hit me on lets say… a mesmer. On the legacy mid point, while I’m on a stealthed thief. Not to mention that even if you did land a few hits, I would recover from it easily.
