Seekers and Blue Circles still hit fairly hard from the Unbound Guardian, the green circle gives an incentive to ranged standing inside of it for a damage buff rather than preventing a wipe mechanic.

So far i have seen people at LUG fleeing from “those green AoE’s”, and trying to gather seekers together in order to better stack and cleave them about as often (if not more often) than stacking in green circles and avoiding real AoEs. And i haven’t noticed any meaningful real difference between those two in how much the guardian went down. Yeah, the second group did it 1-2 minutes faster, maybe.

Go to Bloodstone Fen and fight the Unbound Guardian. Lern that fight and then you got your first easy mode boss.

100% this. It is an intelligent reuse of assets and it is great way to learn a bit about VG mechanics without having to form a group to raid.

What mechanics? Any “mechanics” of legendary unbound guardian could as well be just visuals for how much they impact the fight (hint: none at all).
It’s as if devs decided to make a jab at people asking for easy mode raids, by using a strawman example of one (and hinting using the name of the achieve that’s the best people can count on seeing). Any ties to vale guardian are nothing more than a bad (and definitely not funny) joke .

So just like the mechanics people want for easy raid ( non wiping ones ), see how this is bad? And if there are a wiping mechanic they will say thats not easy.

No. As i said it was a strawman example of “easy mode”. The one raiders claim people ask for, but not the one people asking actually want.

What i want is for the mechanics to be easier, not faceroll easy. It’s not a binary thing, there’s a ton of ground in between. Even if some people intentionally try to ignore it.

Also yes, i do care about the loot. I never claimed otherwise.

Yes there is ton of ground, that will maybe satisfy you or not , and probably not a lot of other people, because they will still fail at it ( as it will be not face roll ) so complain will still exists and now the raid group is divided in easy mode / normal mode. So in the end its way more harm/trouble then a solution for a problem that only exist if you want.
Many encounters if you remove 1 mechanic it become faceroll easy as you say. Remove Green Circle from VG = faceroll easy. Gorseval remove the enrage = slow grind his health updrafting all the time = faceroll easy. Remove warg from scort = faceroll easy. Remove cannons from sabetha = faceroll easy. Etc.
And if they dont remove this mechanic people will still fail and complain. Because they are already too easy, so its a player problem if you cant complete it in its actual state.

The idea that they cannot tone the fights down in ways that don’t make them “faceroll” is a little shortsighted, in my opinion. Of course there is room.

For me, most of the people I talk to are concerned more with the limiting nature of the fights in terms of build/gear/playstyle. Removing or toning down those elements that force (to a degree) players into the meta in order to have realistic chances would be a good thing - in a lower tier level of the raid (there should also be a harder experience that rewards the work people put in).

For many players, copy/pasting a build from metabattle takes the one thing they care about most from the experience – the perceived uniqueness of their character. While they shouldn’t expect to perform at the same level as those that min/max, I don’t think it is unfair for them to expect a raid experience that doesn’t overtly punish thme for getting creative with their characters.

The bolded part, what people fail to see that the VG on BF is exactly this, but people think its just a strawman or way toned down, and its not, the actual VG is actually that weak/easy, so if you tone down the wipe mechanic you will get BF VG that you dont want.

That comparison doesn’t really work. The Unbound Guardian is weak/easy because there are 60-100 people beating on it. While it shares a model and some mechanics, it was altered to be an open world encounter, not a replacement or easy mode version in a raid.

Go stand in seekers or blue circles or even the orbs during the cc phase. Unless you are a tank you will get downed. It’s easy due to the large amount of people there but each mechanic can still kill you if you think that you are safe in numbers.

I mentioned the unbound guardian because it has everything you need to learn VG, the first boss of the raids.

This is from my own experience of the UG and comparison to VG (for context I have over 170 LI).
-Blue circles: UG, I died a few times just standing in them thinking I will get teleported like at VG,
- Seekers: Still deal enough damage to kill you,
- Green circle: Incentive to go to for damage increase,
- CC bar: break for less orbs flying around that still do a fair bit of damage
The only thing missing is the floor changes but the rest of the fight is the same (minus the splits) and promotes exactly what you need to do. Avoid blue circles, stand in green circle, cc, avoid seekers. It gets dumbed down a bit with the 50 other players around you but even so in raid gear (zerk etc) you can still get downed if you take mechanics for granted because of that.

If you can learn UG to do VG then every other boss is a piece of cake as I think VG is still a pain the the kitten to do.

A hotfix was just deployed today to fix a desync issue which should resolve most of the issues you were seeing, however we’re still investigating how much was caused by the desync.

If you continue to see issues post hotfix, please keep reporting them so we can investigate them on a case by case basis.

Does this include minions getting hit by the orbs at xera giving us much higher stacks and them body blocking matthias’ projectiles during the reflect attack?

So far they fixed the mobs teleporting around. Xera is still all kinds of bugged and a lot of other bosses as well.

What is Anet's stance on P2P trading?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sird.4536

For instance I have a sorta friend who has Spark that I’m wanting to buy from him but since I’ve played Eve Online I’ve grown to trust absolutely no one in any online game when it comes to anything currency related.

I know scamming is a reportable offense but I want to know if Anet would rectify the situation if things didn’t go according to plan.

I know of the gold limitation when you mail gold.

What’s our stance? No. Just no. Sure it’s possible. Sure, sometimes it works. But sometimes (often enough to be a highlighted concern) it does not. Which is precisely why the developers created the Trading Post. Safe, secure, and no one gets ripped off. (Ok, guys, no rude comments about the handling fee. I’m talking the straight up transaction here, and it is exactly that: straight up.)

With the advent of the TP, and with all the security that it gives, are you willing to risk a P2P trade? If you are, I sincerely hope that all goes well for you, that you get the item you paid for, and everyone is happy. If it does not, we will not and actually cannot get involved, for a variety of reasons that involve not indicting innocent players who may get caught, tangentially, in P2P trading. (If I have to go into details, I will, but I imagine someone else already has and in my haste to offer advice, I didn’t see it yet. )

So, for trading, I offer my oft-given advice: Choose wisely.

Safe lol? Players getting banned because gold sellers buy outdated listings for hundreds of gold that were listed months ago. Your detection on gold via mail is even worse, players getting banned from gold sent by friends.

I think the reason Arenanet has not developed a true expansion is because NC Soft through its division NC Soft West has not been committed to growing the IP to truly compete with the MMORPG of its rivals. I think It’s too focused on Blade & Soul. The truth is a large fraction of the budget for the development of Blade & Soul should have gone to developing an expansion that would have allowed GW2 to compete in China in a wholistic and serious way.

Reports from China say GW2 isn’t doing so bad. The reason they have not done a full blown expansion is because for a long time they said they were not going to do an expansion but big living story dumps, HoT was exactly that.

Now they are screwed because we have 4 dragons left and we know 3 of them are in Tyria (the continent). Jormag is up north of FGS, Kralk south in the Crystal Desert, Primordias underground somewhere and no word on Bubbles location.

FGS and CD are roughly the same size as the Maguuma jungle and if HoT wasn’t big enough for an expansion then these 2 zones won’t be either. They have to finish this dragon story arc before we move to another continent? Even after these dragons are dealt with Cantha is probably still a long way away because south of Tyria is Elona.

]No. They aren’t. They are needed only to populate content that would be underpopulated otherwise – so, one that is generally disliked.

Yes, the rewards need to be good (as the dungeons nerf clearly shown), but they don’t need to be exclusive. In fact, making people play the content just for those rewards is often seen as a bad choice. Just ask most of the sPvP veterans what they think about “PvE scrubs” that were playing ranked just to get the backpack.

Or maybe ask worldbosses before the loot buff.

Have you perhaps noticed that part, where i said that rewards do need to be good? I even bolded it, so you might actually read what you quoted.
But please, do tell me what exclusive rewards the world boss loot buff introduced that made killing them so more interesting to the general populace.

Sird.4536

If Anet intended for people to get 20+ grand chests every octovine event, they would have put that many chests on one map. The multimap is clearly creative use of game mechanics and should be patched.

My thought is that they will likely try to make it so you can’t join a completed map till the timer runs out like in DS, preventing the excessive looting.

The weird thing is that you would have thought they would have done something about it by now if they were going to do anything. I doubt breach-hopping during SW’s primetime (and still today) was intentional, but yet it remains. Perhaps they will treat multimap the same way.

I seriously doubt any sane person believes that ANET anticipated this, but their silence leads me to believe that they either a) aren’t going to patch it, but don’t want to encourage people, or b) are on the fence about what to do.

They might have been waiting for the 26th to do something. They do like to bundle things instead of releasing when it should be.

There is nothing in a raid that really slaps you. The reason groups wipe is down to players messing up not mechanics. Why would anyone run to the green circles at VG (in your version) if the penalty was damage you could just heal through and recover from? There would be no reason to do any mechanics if you weren’t heavily penalised for missing.

Also how would you learn in these ‘training runs’? What incentive or reason would a guy have to run to the green circles if he knew we can just heal up and recover.

Future of Raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sird.4536

Sird.4536

Raids are in the game not because ArenaNet decided it on a whim, but because players actually wanted challenging experiences.

Some did, many did not.

The important thing is to provide the experience that those few players wanted, without harming the experience for everyone else by blocking story or reward elements from them.

but people are resistant to that idea because they “still want to experience the fights themselves” (which contradicts their original view of not wanting to get into raiding for the fights)

I’ve been clear on my stance to this. I do want to experience the fights, I do NOT want to experience the wipes. I want to experience the fights in a manner in which the mechanics are present, but failing to nail the mechanics has a reduced penalty element, making a wipe less likely to result. A very imperfect attempt would still result in overall success, just not “perfect” success, and instead of repeatedly failing the content over and over and over and over until eventually you get it all perfect, you could clear the content over and over and over, clearing it faster and more efficiently each time.

I’m aware that some raiders would hate that as much as I hate the former, which is why I’ve always stressed that as an alternative, rather than as a replacement, but if it can only be one or the other, I vote for the latter.

So you want raids where you are never punished for making mistakes? A raid where you don’t wipe? I can’t believe this is even a thing lol.

New events in the HoT maps. A new area is a new area…didn’t say a map. It’s new, it wasn’t there before, it has a function; it’s a new area, whether it is appreciated or not…still content. Something new added to the game.

I don’t do structured PvP, but I don’t deny the Devs have added new features/content for that mode of the game. I’m sure it pleases some players.

Everyone doesn’t have to agree, but it doesn’t make it any less factual.

Noting new added to PvP, unless you call a rebalance of classes as new content. But if you think that is worth shouting about and saying it was great, go for it.

Stronghold says hi.

And how is that doing? Ye exactly.

This summer patch is either going to retain players or start to lose a lot. They scrapped legendary weapons to work on this and if it’s the same crap like the HoT story that only takes an hour to do people will leave. The fact that nothing has been teased or mentioned is worrying.

Saying legendary armor wasn’t targeted at everyone is laughable. I can see the $$$ floating above Anets metaphorical head.

Those that put the effort in did so out of self satisfaction and will get first dibs at the armor, nothing more.

4 month time gate is very long, there is no reasonable justification why the average player shouldn’t be able to complete it in the minimum amount of time or moderately close to it.

I thought 4 months for an average player was…well…average?

Most raiders don’t even care about the armour. I have no use for it because I have so many ascended sets. I do it because I enjoy raiding and having a goal to work towards.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sird.4536

Sird.4536

The problem isn’t specifically about needing 150, but the degree of difficulty in getting them in a timely manner.

I don’t think its that far a stretch to say the average player will only be able to get 1-4 per week. Putting the grind somewhere between 9 months and 3 years, which considering is HoT content puts completion into the next expansion or very close.

It should be 1 per boss per day, max 9-15 weekly. If you only do VG you can get 7 weekly, this entices you to try for other bosses but doesn’t flat out screw you if you can’t.

Everyone knew legendary armour was going to be raid exclusive so you have had many months to get as much LI as possible. If people are just starting now then what have they been doing this whole time? If they have not had the initiative to look for a guild or form a guild or even get a bunch of friends to casually do it then they can’t come here asking for it to be lowered.

Leave it at 150 per armour. The casual player base is going to ruin this game. If you enjoy raiding then getting 150 is not bad and I would guess that with more raids coming out in the future it will be faster to aquire LI so stop asking for a nerf to a piece of gear that isn’t even out yet.

A Note about the Next Raid Wing

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sird.4536

Sird.4536

Get the mastery or don’t do the raid boss that requires it; there are other raid wings and bosses in the third wing which don’t require the mastery for you to play if you don’t want to get the mastery. It’s really that simple.

If you’re opposed to the concept of masteries being required for raids, my opinion is that I disagree with you because raids are end-game PvE content and masteries are like leveling up skills for use in PvE. It makes perfect sense to me to incorporate masteries into raids, like the Speed/Adrenal Mushrooms in Spirit Vale, the Updraft on Gorseval, and now Ley Line Gliding in wing 3. I personally wish they’d validate even more masteries by using them in raids either optionally or otherwise.

I agree with the use of masteries like gliding and mushrooms. I would not agree with requiring multiple end tier masteries or all of them.

It would drastically gate accessibility and ease of entry into the raiding scene if you required anything beyond mushrooms and maxed gliding.

I don’t want people who I invite to come raid with me in this game to be told " You’re gonna grind braindead dynamic events and waste days on ridiculous gold adventure medals or camping NPC’s for specific dynamic event steps to get enough mastery and xp to be raid ready".

WoW doesn’t do this. You can virtually gear up for entry to raids in WoW or FFXIV or Wildstar in a week or two of 2-3 hour play sessions.

Guild Wars 2 should be no different.

Raids should be easy to access and difficult to complete by virtue of their combat mechanics, not silly unnecessary gating.

To anyone who played GW1, you know how stupid Lightbringer ranks were for DoA. EoTN was equally cancerous.

The other games don’t do this because they have a gear treadmill. You have had 8 months? To get this mastery and in the April patch they made it even easier for you to get it. Though I guess if DoA was hard for you because of the LB ranks then no wonder you can’t do raids here.
