tnx for the heads up, keep up the good work guys
tnx for the long reply!
I understand about mantras but like i said i do switch around skills depending on the situations. I also use mantras while im out of combat, running towards my next target or event and only focus on my healing skill later mid fight.
Ill give blinding dissipation a try. I dont have much trouble staying alive its just that once i shatter my illusions (something i usually do in order to finish up the monster the illusions are tied to), the other monsters (if i fight multiple at once) that are still alive turn to me for a short period when i dont have any illusons up.
I guess i havent been using my f5 wrongly then. I thought i did cause during various fights there are so many moments where i think to my self “this is the moment where hiting f5 would be great!”. But the moments are super short, they pass, and then another opportunity appears for me to use f5. So in the end i made it simple and fixed it only to double cast my ultimate, or blow out all utility skills.
I guess i can double cast the well healing skill but i find my self not needing that much heal.
I understand illusions are temporary and “Bound” to the target they have been casted on, i also understand my dps relies on bursts so to speak rather than steady dps and that the entire class is focused on great utility and support, thats not a problem. I just need “enough” good dmg to solo roam around the world and map complete. Everything else is group content so to speak in which ill be happy to play the “mesmer suport”
click and drag multiple items to move them instead of 1 by 1 in inventory bags and bank space? sure why not.
can arenanet clarify about third world?
Thb, even if they add world 3 i can assure you people will demand world 4 and 5 on the first day it gets released.
Even if world 3 has an epic end boss, and an epic closure to the story, people will demand and even expect SAB 2.0…..
Theres no need to think about world 3, plenty to enjoy and achieve in the first 2 worlds, once per year, during the festival
Because magic ofc!
Also nobody urinates in the world of tyria..did you see any toilets around?
i think its unreasonable to get 18 pieces of exotic/ascended items for finishing 12 byzantium chests within 1 league.
If its a matter of grind, the byzanthium chests are repetable, people can get 3600 shards by opening 120 chests, and can do so inside 1 league…
Another question is do you really need all 3 sets (to use) and considering the op mentioned they look almost the same as the ardent armor….(for skins)
This is why i thought it was about the “gimme gimme gimme” mentality. You dont really NEED all 3 sets of skin, and there are other much faster and easier ways to obtain ascended armor (which again, you dont really need 3 different sets off…normally..)
Like i said before right on the start. This is a long term reward system for active ranked league pvp players…that and the legendary backpack/glider who also requires playing trough several leagues to be obtained.
Some people got it within 2 leagues , for me it took the entire year (tho i was offline for 5 months). I think this would apply for the skins the OP was talking about
(edited by Vukorep.3081)
Heya.
im playing the game more than 4 years so to speak and i got a bunch of various professions lvled up and played trough and now Ive been looking into mesmers lately.
I have a cool armor set i “made up” for it, im very happy and excited to be able to work on collecting the phtantasm weapons for the mesmer (as i did get the spirit weapons for my Dragon Hunter) and i like how different it plays compared to other professions i have (warrior, guard, ele, necro, ranger, revenant)
While i play mostly pve ( 40% World exploration> 25% story> 20%dungeons> 10%fractals> 5% raids) with various classes i also sometimes play pvp (a few times almost every day) and i do find my self playing from 1-10 hours in wvw per week (depending on the commander in teamspeak) however i simply cant grasp mesmers…
Every time i try to make a build on mesmers it just ends up a complete mess, i tried toying with the online build calculator, i read the traits and skills and i know what they do and how they play but i still end up having a character who does 100 various moves and effects but only 20 of them seem useful and somehow rewarding??
Is there something im missing and not understanding about the mesmer? Am i using all the wrong traits and skills that are completely useless and weak in most situations?
For referencing this is my build that i came up with : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhEQNAsdWl0nhS0YNawSNQtGLqGEZAqQxL7QJGAa1TT2B-TRxMAB0p+T9KBBY/BbU+pkeAA-e
The build is ment for pve world exploration mostly. I think it has good dmg/crits, i focus on phantasms and some shattters. Mantras are there for permanent swiftness trough runes of centuar, extra spike dmg and dazes for breakbars/ quickness.
I like staff and use it as a defensive weapon. Ofc i also switch around various utilities depending on the situation with skills such as mimic, feedback, portals, blink.
I havent leveled chronomancer to full but did try it out in the pvp lobby a few times and because of a few traits such as chronophantasma ,illusionary reversion and the f5 skill im back to square 1… i have no idea where to start and how to make a proper build.
I go with a shatter skill with scepter and those traits for a TON of phantasms/clone spamming but it ends up a mess, mobs move and take some of the illusions with them or some die very quickly and then im “defenseless” for a few seconds so to speak while i wind up my illusions back on another target and then at times i deal very low dmg compared to anything im used to play with…
And then we have the f5 skill..i do understand what it does and how it works, but every time i use it when i think its a good thing to use it on i feel like i messed it up and wasted it, like i could have used it up on something better.
I use it on ultimates like time warp or gravity well for break bars. Sometimes i use it (when i have 3 illusions up) to load out a bunch of heavy skills/utilities +ultimate. I rarely,if ever use it on my health bar.
I understand that there are a few classes that play totally different compared to other professions. For example:
-Ele : nukes a lot of aoe dmg on lots of targets, group up and aoe
-Guard: Using symbols for aoe dmg and cleaves, group up and aoe
-Warriors: High sustain, group up and cleave
-Necro: Super sustain, group up and aoe/cleave, has fun minions
-Rev: Similar to guardians, group up and cleave/aoe
-Ranger: Axe/torch+ longbow, group up and aoe, has fun pets to tank while i pew pew behind
-Then i started playing thieves and ,while it couldnt simply group up lots of mobs and aoe them down (cause of my low sustain and lack of cleaving/aoes) i still found a perfect set up/build for my thieves and had super fun and had a awesome feeling playing thieves with blinds, shadow arts, stealths, traps ect
But mesmers?? I just cant make it work for me… I spend a lot of time in PvP lobby trying out different things (for pve) and even when i do find something good, it feels like the rest of the 60% of the build works against what i made…
What am i doing wrong?
1) Yes it was ment as a long term reward
2) Ardent glorious armor is a “prestige” version of the regular ardent armor skins…cause you know..one can be farmed super casually trough daily pvp achievements and the other requires you to play and be kinda good in pvp ranked leagues
3) What exactly do you mean reducing the price by a 10th of the cost? So instead of 3600 shards for all 3 sets (18 pieces ) it should be 360 shards for all 18 pieces?
You want to acquire 3 sets of exotic armor (or ascended armor if you wanna craft the tokens which get you the armor cheaper) for 360 shards?
1 Ascended armor SET for 120 shards? what is that? 4 byzanthium chests? For a long term year round temporary pvp league system?
This is yet another thread about the “gimme gimme gimme” mentality of everything that is supposed to be “rare”, “hard to get” and even “prestigious” in the game yet there is another thread a few days ago who complains there is “nothing prestigious to get in the game that we can show off to other players” (that guy apparently never bothered with raids, or maybe he doesnt consider raid only minipets/weapon/armor skins and titles to be prestigious show off material)
So having a magical (yes) minipet fish that flops around and has FISH ANIMATIONS is bad and heartless…but butchering countless innocent moas, squirels, bunnies, boars, wolfs, baracudas, DOLYAKS, various types of birds and many other animals is okay?
What about that mini triple trouble wurm? should we change him as well cause hes obviously decapitated, leaking fluids in order to follow us around?…
WHAT KIND OF A THREAD IS THIS?
Ive seen some costumes in eso. And i was able to preview thefemale dresses and tops on a male character….. it looks very very bad..
Why are we comparing eso with gw2 or zenimax with anet?
Look at the current map, plenty of spaces to be expored who can be just as or more beautifull than cantha or elona… Andthen theres also many maaany more continents and areas other than those two on the planet.
Or are you just being nostalgic?
I’m confused, was the new Guardian elite spec data mined?
nothing has been data mined since i dont think anything is inside the code yet.
But there are rumors about guardians being called purifiers or something and getting an axe main hand (along with a bunch of other “leaks”)…but well see, atm its just a rumor , tho we are definitely going to the crystal desert (as seen in some leaked screenshots)
So i can only try to alter the megaserver “priorities”, re log a few times and hope for the best.
Thats pretty much what i thought.
Also great idea with the offline status that kinda ignores your guild/friends list temporary.
I guess another way to change map instances would be to simply stand around and wait for it to be empty and it prompts me to change to a more populated map instance.
axe auto attack (melee) (main hand)
1)
-Chop
-Chop harder
-Chop harder and remove 1 condition from self, deal small aoe dmg if condition removed (the final chop has increased attack duration, similar to the mace 3rd hit)
2) Symbol 15 sec cooldown
spams resistance for 3 seconds (5 with honor trait)
3) life sheath (similar to shield 4) (20s cooldown)
-aoes in front, cures up to 3 conditions from allies, burns enemies, burns +1s for each condition removed. Gain might for each target you burn
Utility skills- “bonds”
1) heal
heal for a small amount instantly + 3 more packets of healing over the next 3 seconds. Bond with nearby allies for 3 seconds, healing them for 75% of health that you heal your self (only healing that comes from you, to you counts)
utility
1) bond of strength
-gain 5 stacks of might for 10 seconds, and 3 more stacks every second for the next 3s.
Bond with allies around you for 3 seconds, granting them all might you gain on your self.
2) Bond
-gain 3 stacks of stability for 10 seconds, and 1 more stack every second for the next 3 seconds.
Bond with allies and remove all crippled ,chill, imob ect and grant them all stacks of stability you gain over the next 3s.
3) smiting bond
gain fury for 8 seconds and gain fury 3 more times over 3 seconds
bond with enemies around you applying cripple and burning for 2 seconds every time you gain fury
4) Life bond
gain protection for 8 seconds and 3s protection over the next 3 seconds
bond with allies and grant them 3 seconds of protection every time you gain protection over the next 3 seconds
elite: Angelic bond
-Gain aegis and resistance for 8 seconds, and gain 3s resistance each second for hte next 3 seconds.
Bond with allies and grant them 3s resistance each time you gain resistance.
If your bonded allies would take fatal damage, the damage is negated and they will be healed for 4000 health +1500 health if they had resistance on them.
Traits:
Traits mostly focused to “agument” your bonds in various ways such as what happends when the bond begins, while allies are bonded, and when the bond ends such as:
-While bonded you receive -10% damage from both raw and conditions
-Allies you bond with have increased dmg by 10%
-Allies you bond with are healed by 400-600 health each second they are bonded with, -Grand aegis when the bond ends.
-remove 1 condition when bond ends.
-Enemies you bond with get vulnerabilty each second they are bonded with, apply 5 seconds of burning when bond ends
-You aoe heal for a small amount when you remove a condition from your self
Virtues
1) Virtue of justice
Burning refrain- The next 3 ally attacks causes burning and (similar like the original virtue of justice).
If ally is bonded all attacks cause burning during the duration of the bond.
When the bond ends enemies around you are burned for 1 second of burning for each ally that was bonded.
2) Virtue of resolve
Aria of restoration- Allies around you are healed for a small amount, and heal for 600 health each time they hit a target (up to 3 times). If allies are bonded the heal is
doubled.
3) Virtue of courage
Defensive Anthem- Grant aegis and resistance to everyone around you for 8 seconds. If ally is bonded reduce dmg taken from both condition and dmg by 30% for the next 5 seconds. Remove 2 conditions when Defensive anthem ends.

I used to play gs/staff guardian for a long time and when i got to the place youre in now i tried hammer and fell in love with it.
Later when dragon hunter came i went hammer/longbow, pew pewing stuff from far away and if it gets close i smack it away with my hammer, or crush it down.
In the end i made this build here:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQJATSnsABlChddCGCBkdil4BrKA8AqXy7v+3CEbJ8f2CA-ThBEABJq+Tb6CyZ/BAeAAOp8jLlgAA-e
-Yes you can go full zerker, i just like to be able to smash and bash even the deadliest packs of mobs around me.
-Protective reviver is awesome
-extra 2 seconds of symbol duration helps a lot with damage, damage modifications and protection boon uptime.
-Damage modifiers give you +24% damage almost all the time, +10% if you are striking a tethered target +10% if youre striking a crippled target for atotal of +44% damage modification
If i guest on a different server, will i be logging in a different map instance?
I doubt it my self considering mega servers …but does it perhaps change my “priorities” somehow and sometimes logs me in a different map instance?
-Item skins:
Item skins are “region” specific as well as “npc” specific + 1 set of “general” skins.
This means you will usually get general skins, but if youre in kryta you will get krytan skin as drops. If youre in shiverpeaks you will get norn skins ect.
Npc specific skins are different. There are a few different armor skin sets that you can obtain trough karma vendors (that do change depending on the zone level they are bought in)
And then we have “special” skins in special places such as dungeon skins (which are also kinda “level tiered”) cultural weapon skins , cultural armor skins (also "level tiered) and “unique” skins from various specific places.
-The cash shop.
Im sure you understand the need for limitations of f2p players…and im sure you understand the amount of content in the f2p version of the game is as large as the one all players have been playing for 4 years before the expansion…..
Personally (as a non f2p player) i never had problems with:
-only 5 character slots
-100 inventory slots (that arent filled with crafting materials cause i can instnantly deposit 250 of them in my material bank)
-30 bank storages (im not even sure what to place inside them?)
-250 material storage is plenty (stop hoarding, sell it on tp for gold or use it for crafting)
-transmog charges ( i have over 600 unused…cause i get so many of them for free)
PS: I actually have 9 characters, along with the 4 character slots i bought:
-1 silver fed salvage kit
-many bag expansions ( about enough to max out 2 characters)
-a few hair styles
-even a name change!!
-3 permanent gathering tools
and all that with in game gold….
1. Knockbacks;
Knockbacks and many other types of cc are a big part of the game. There ARENT that many around in general as you may think when you look troughout the entire map, yes they can be dodged, yes they can be negated via stability, yes they can be interrupted and yes, they can be simply outran.
2. Damage.
Again, same thing as with knockbacks. Almost any attack can be completely ignored by dodging. As a guardian you have tons of (actually spammable) blocks to negate attacks completely, you have lots of regeneration and heals and you can even spam protection boons (-33% incoming dmg).
Personally i tend to always get to the 2600-2800 armor (depending on class) and the rest goes into power and precision. I also switch my weapons, utility and traits to counter the area and situation im in, and yes, any profession can adapt in any situation everywhere.
Btw, the game can be plaid from start to end in full glass cannon (berserker) stats without any problem. Many maaany players do that (it just takes player skill)
3. Traps
Are you talking about environmental traps inside dungeons? Personally i dont have any problems with them, and im actually happy to see those things inside those kinds of places cause it makes the dungeon more rich instead of just a simple 1 way track from adds-boss-adds-boss…
4. Travel
The talk about mounts have been talked since forever and nothing changed cause they aren’t really needed in this game.
All professions can pretty much spam 33% movement speed swiftness buffs, almost all of them have some form of permanent 25% movement speed trait/skill, many have mobility skills such as leaps, rushes, teleports and blinks.
There are plenty of waypoints which save time far better than if you had a mount that lets you run 50-100% faster (you would still have to navigate trough various terrains and trough “overpowered” packs of mobs that will put you in combat.
Then HoT came with large jungle areas filled with modrem enemies and other jungle dangers. We ,as players, adapt to the jungle by learning the maps “shortcuts” and using masteries that help us reach many areas with ease.
Not much waypoints in those areas cause the entire place is dangerous and ..well..lore but who cares.
-How to fix it?
Imo, and as far as ive seen lots of other people (playing other games with flying mounts), flying mounts that allow you to get high in the sky and go from point a to b pretty much destroyed any sort of player interaction. You might just as well spam the entire map with free waypoints next to all events then
Bosses, veterans, elites ,specially the special monsters are supposed to be harder and have special attacks and abilities, which again you can counter and negate in sooo many ways. To be honest i ,and many many other players find it extremely boring to fight most core tyria monsters who attack once every 2-3 seconds and are unable to move while performing the attack. A large portion of the players were super happy when they started fighting enemies in dry tops and silverwastes cause those monsters all had special abilities and mechanics, strengths and weaknesses and you can even read the small text under their names to see what they are.
Have a lot of players complained about HoT maps being too deadly? Yes, and new players still do, but thats just cause they were used to fight moas and bandits that attacked once ever 2-3 seconds and had 1 special attack they had to wind up for 3 whole seconds in order to either miss you or deal slightly more dmg than usual. And then they come to HoT where there are pocket raptors, mobs with break bars and many other types.
But guess what? People learned, adapted and everyone is returning to full zerker glass cannon builds inside HoT maps
-Gathering tools
Just take a few extra cheap tools and keep them in your inventory, same goes with salvage kits.
The permanent gathering tools dont cost anything when you use them, the permanent salvage kits (copper and silver fed) do cost, but slightly less than the ones you can buy from the merchants.
There is nothing wrong with keeping 4 salvage kits in your inventory, and nothing wrong with having 3 tools equiped and 3 more in your inventory.
And there is certainly nothing wrong with offering the same tools/kits in permanent versions in the $shop (which you can spend gold to buy them anyway)
they were always account bound werent they?
I dont understand why would anyone buy more than 1, yet alone more than 2,3,4 of them just cause they didnt wanted to put them in a bank and pick them up on another character.
Obviously the price wasnt the issue there, and yet people started to complain about refunds now … idk..
Regarding enviroment i think you are just standing in a zone with lesser enviroment “effects”
Zones such as gandaran fields, queensdale, kessex hills, they are large flat plains with nothing to add except the sun, moon, maybe a few water splash if youre near a lake /river.
Try playing in caledon forest, maguuma jungle, inside the mt maelstrom volcano, the snowy shiverpeaks , even some more foresty areas in ascalon and youll soon realize how rich the enviroment is. With small details such as footstep sounds, birds, “enviromental” critters and neutral mobs.
Reliable would be crafting yes, it lets you craft any piece you wish with any stats you need.
Doing fractals can be also a way, but its group content and you mentioned you play solo.
Another way would be farming stuff in the new season 3 maps, but i dont think that involves ascended armor /weapons, only trinkets
Hi, im glad to say that after 4 years i finally got my legendary “item” and it also comes with a glider!
As i said in a previous post found here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/25-more-days-till-legendary/first#post6462209
I was originally going for just the first 4 wings in order to get the wings of ascension precursor cause i was about 6 months offline and i thought i couldnt possibly finish up all the achievements in such little time.
It was only during the now almost over season 5 that realized (after calculating some achievement numbers) that if i acquire 4 wins and 5 top stats per day for 25 days i will get all achievements finished!
Ever since i stared going trough with that plan i recorded a few stats and im here now to share them with you.
Note that i decided to go with arah dungeon path as i found it most “profitable” and quality of life cause its the hardest and longest dungeon in the game that i will be skipping a big chunk off in order to unlock lots of weapons and armor skins.
Day 1: 7 Matches (4 wins)
Day 2: 5 Matches
Day 3: 11 matches, (1 was 4v5)
Day 4: 11 matches, (1 went afk at about 300-200) Day 4: 1 arah track finished
Day 5: 4 matches
Day 6: 3 matches (enough to get into part 4 ascention achievment tab)
Day 7: 9 matches (6 wins for 6 win in day dominator achievement)
Day 8: 12 matches Day 8: 2 arah tracks finished
Day 9: 4 matches (3 wins) Reduced requirement to : 3 wins +4 top stats
Day 10: 5 matches (3 wins)
Day 11: 6 matches (3 wins) Players became extremely stupid, doing things like cleaving downed players instead of rezzing or stomping, chasing enemies across the map instead of fighting on points, 0 communication what so ever.
Day 12: 5 Matches (3 wins) Day 12: 3 Arah Tracks Finished
Day 13: 7 Matches (3 wins)
Day 14: 8 Matches (3 wins) (1 went afk after her first death in the first minute, stood in spawn and trash talked everyone else. Won 2 matches vs her, 1 also went afk)
Day 15: 9 matches (3 wins) (Finished Top stats achievment)
Day 16: 3 matches (3 wins) (finished my profession achievments)
Day 17: 4 matches (3 wins) Day 17: 4 Arah Tracks finished
Day 18: 6 matches (3 wins)
Day 19: 5 Matches (3 wins)
Day 20: 4 matches (3 wins)
Day 21: 6 matches (3 wins) Finished the time gated 3 daily games achievement Only 11 wins left total Day 21: 5 Arah Tracks Finished
Day 22: 5 matches (4 wins) Only 7 wins left total
Day 23: 6 matches (3 wins) only 4 wins left total
Day 24: 4 Matches (4 wins) Finally finished achievements and crafted my legendary!
I started with silver 2 and my highest point was gold 3 this season. Between days 10-16 i dropped all the way down to silver 2 again, but in the end im back to middle gold 2.
All this was started with byzantium chests, so this is what i got from those:
-210 gold + 66 unidentified dye
-1200 Ascended shards of glory. Im still thinking about what armor set to buy from it (minus the helmet, only 5/6 pieces)
5 (and a half) Arah reward track got me this:
-1320 arah dungeon tokens
-17 exotic arah dungeon weapons
-5 exotic arah dungeon armor pieces
Note that they are all berserker stats, i used the tokens to buy cheap armor pieces and used armor boxes to gain costly armor pieces (chest, pants). I kept a full set of heavy armor and a set of berzerker weapons for my new revenant that i am lvling (sword, axe, mace, hammer, staff, spear and shield)
I also kept a zerker longbow for my ranger, i salvaged the rest into ectos and dark matter with black lion salvage kits
The arah reward track also gave me tons of greens that i salvaged for materials, a bunch of rare items i sold on the tp for 30-ish silver as well as 2 exotic items (i sold them for about a total of 1.5 gold profit).
I also acquired 2 ascended armor chests. I opened them for medium chest and pants (costly ones) just in order to unlock the 2 skins for my collection achievement (im only missing the other 4 medium parts to complete it).
Here are some pics http://imgur.com/a/l6rnl
Note the exquisite craftmanship that went into forging the sword im using to slay dragons there.

Besides the titles that came with the core game on release, what is the oldest title in the game that cant be acquired anymore?
Step 1) Read about the lore of the race you will be using on your character. This will improve your background writing and understand how your race usually interacts with other races. This also teaches you your racial limitations. If you are a norn surely you will win any kind of fist brawl against humans, asura and sylvari, and vice versa, surely you wont start a fight against a charr as a sylvari.
Step 2) Create a name that fits your characters race and origin (krytan, elonian, charr warbands ect). But make sure its canon and not something ridiculous like “Im the great great great grandson of the 3rd king of kryta!”
Step 3) Create a background story for your character. You could also add additional background to what anet provides via character biography
Step 4) Is combat part of your rp? If so carefully chose your profession that fits your characters background. This also applies what kind of weapons you use and what kind of armor you use as well. If you are a simple seraph soldier why do you wield twilight, a great sword tied to a champion rizen from orr that guards the gates of arah? And whats with that Layline energy armor and why do you have a purple modremoth vine on your back?
Step 5) Join a rp guild or a web page community, it helps a lot.
Step 6) Communicate, talking out of character, learning how others wish to RP is important. In a ideal world people would be in character all the time the moment they know they can RP with someone else and everything clicks together.
Step 7) If you are still unsure check this guy out https://www.youtube.com/user/WubdoR
The others have pointed it out nicely but everything has a “price” that you need to consider
1) You have to consider the price of leveling crafting from 1-500 before you can craft your ascended gear, which is different for all 3 crafting disciplines.
2) You need to be rank 20 to even be able to play ranked games (or am i mistaken?). If you arent “good” at pvp it can be frustrating as youre dealing with constant defeats, sometimes flames and toxicity from other players.
3) Not all players are doing raids, and even if they pay a run you still need to consider the price compared to other acquisition methods.
4) Fractals can be easier than raids for sure but you still have to do some effort and it can be time consuming. Someone also calculated that the price of BLING vendors are somewhat higher than that of the crafting (tho he didint use the price of leveling crafting discipline to 500)
In a game that has the same reward spread across multiple ways of acquisition sometimes it is better to look at time consumed in order to get it.
A 15-20 gold per hour farm could get you ascended armor set faster via crafting than anything else.
faster animations of what?
also we have spamable quickness on demand, how fast are we talking about?
Yea i noticed that today in queensdale mini dungeon with the bandit hideout.
I used the hammers at the door ,went too close to the door and it stopped spinning.
It makes sense actually, you dont see other aoes going trough walls do you….tho it can be annoying sometimes
I will start by saying that Bloodstones are just magic that already existed in this world, but was sealed into bloodstones. When bloodstones are destroyed, that magic just goes back into the natural world, like it always was. Theoritcally the amount of bloodstones can be countless until magic no longer exists, but atm only 5….or 4
Okay, so i probably got confused the 4-5 bloodstones with the red rocks seen everywhere nowdays?
There’s as much bloodstone as the devs want. It’s a game.
Seriously though, I used to be a lore buff, loved it. Then I realized that the devs use the lore in this game as more of a suggestion than a constraint. Even when they do remember their own lore it’s used rather loosely when it’s convenient.
So don’t read much into it. Kinda sad to say that, I know, but what else do you do when the devs don’t take their own lore very seriously.
tbh most of the lore i got from gw1 was just a background story, and then you would play trough the missions that have parts of the lore in them. There are also a few side quests here and there which tackle some of the more important lore but most of them are (while important and big) shoved in some remote place.
A perfect example would be me going in a remote out of the way irrelevant fishing town only to get a quest from a random dude to kill tengu and bring back some books, after that i am to go to the temple of the ages and tell a priest that she is a descendant of the royal blood (Salma).
In gw2 i see kinda the same thing happening. There is established lore thats going on in the background, lore that was used to build the world we play ing. We go trough a personal/living world story which has parts of the lore in it. But thats about it.
I just wish there was some more continuity. Mysteries and unanswered lore is fine. Speculation is fun. But using lore and stretching it is kinda eh.
Lots of fun nonetheless
so let me see if i understood this correctly.
1) Bloodstone magic can manifest t self in a physical form that looks like red rocks, and aparently theres an abundance of it
2) I thought the purpose of the bloodstones was to contain and hide whatevers left or magic away from the dragons not to serve a meal for the dragons to put them to sleep early?
3) I thought one would require that key bloodstone in order to unlock the other bloodstones magic. apparently we just had to blew it up? and now its leaking and manifesting it self everywhere for everyone to take its power.
5 MASSIVE chunks around in places, not to mention bloodstone magic, which uses the inherent power of a bloodstone (not the power contained in a bloodstone but the basic power of the stone itself, mind you. Hence it’s being red no matter what), which doesn’t require a physical bloodstone, but simply exposure to it at some point. We can see that even centaurs (who are, as much as you can say about an entire race, magically inadept) using bloodstone magic in the new trailer. This is also a sign of how much magic is leaking out…
I understand that there are multiple bloodstones, but we kinda only discovered and blew up the one in maguuma. The other 4 should be “inactive” as the one we are seeing now was before season 3, or back in the gw1 days
So you are saying that because of the blowing up part, the basic power of the bloodstone is “attaching” it self to other normal rocks?
I always though this bloodstones were a finite large slabs of stone shown in some animations during gw1 missions.
Then in gw2 bloodstone dust came from left and right, making me craft bloodstone bricks with them.
Then bloodstone fen blew up and there was quite more bloodstone in the map i could ever imagine. Bloodstone elementals also appeared…idk how thats possible but okay.
We create bloodstone backpacks and weapons.
And now in the trailer we see “canons” shooting blocks of bloodstones at divinitys reach (is that a bad thing? i thought bloodstone contains magic and can empower someone)
Honestly how much bloodstone is there in the world?
I dont think anyone said there will be a new legendary weapon every living world update.
In fact, last time i checked the “posponed legendary weapons indefinently” still stands.
Legendary weapons are a side project atm. Quagan shield was aparently a crowd favorite so they made it a reality
25% movement speed traits/runes/signets dont stack with 33% swiftness boon either for a reason.
Imagine 25% trait,33% swiftness, 50% superspeed and 40% mushroom.
DR will have all districts burning and then the middle will release clockwork knights to recapture everything.
After a very long time of rebuilding DR all districts will be that of Canthan thematic.
Its the only map that has 1 looong chain event that spreads troughout the map from start to end with a timer on top.
The gameplay is great, but the accessibility is rather bad. Its the only map where you cant enter and make progress with at any time of the day. It excludes certain types of people.
Thieves are meant to be one of the fastest classes (if not the fastest class). They also have the lowest health pool, Necro is the medium health pool I believe. Maybe something to take into consideration?
i agree. also necros have the highest health pool (like warriors) + the life force on death shroud that scales with vitality (if you have 27 k health expect to have another 23k deathshroud…also all life force regen skills are % based)
Hi and welcome back.
Since i dont know which part of the game we are talking about ill just run a short description of all classes and how they go in all aspects of the game.
But first to answer your map question.
(these are placed in no particular order)
1) Fractals: They can be very profitable, there are a few new ones that you probably missed as well and should try them out, they are very awesome and can get you prepared for raids as well.
2) Dungeons: Yes they nerfed liquid gold income, but then they buffed it up ( a little bit) however they buffed token rewards quite a bit as well. If you take token->gold into consideration dungeons can be a daily thing to do to earn some fast gold
3) Specific map rewards: Doing events in maps rewards you with extra items. They rotate between different “loot tables” every week. I remember frostgorge sound being a awesome place to do events (namely champ bag trains ,they are all events now) and you can get tons of charged lodestones, powerfull blood, giants eyes ect.
4) Silverwaste: Yep, its still profitable, weather you do a chest run or skip from map to map for meta events and labyrinth it gives nice gold.
5) Season 3 living world maps: Each has its own currency that you can gather and spend on otherwise expensive items. The latest bitterfrost map offers winterberries that you can trade in for ascended trinkets and backpacks, even an ascended aquabreather
6) Any HoT map: They are still very active troughout the day (check the LFG) they reward you with tons of loot, greens can be MF for rares, rares an be sold on tp, almagated stones are worth quite a bit and you get lots of tokens to spend on whatever you like. People should really start using tokens.
Now for the profession part, ill start with your characters and move on with others:
1) Engineer: Engie got buffed with scrapper for sure in pve as well as pvp. They are in a good spot however i believe in raids vanilla condi engineer are prefered than scrappers.
2) Warriors: They are also buffed with berserker. They are probably in the best spot from all professions Fast mobility, heavy dmg for pve, phalanx strenght is always welcome specially in raids. They are commonly seen in PvP as well nowdays as these strong condi juggernauts as well as burst damaging tanks.
3) Revenants: Revs are a mix nowdays, and cause of casual people blindly following the meta people have mixed feelings about it. In PvE they are versatile, but when focusing on 1 part they have huge modifiers such as 70% dmg increase,40% crit from perma fury, 100+healing modifiers. They are welcome in dungeons and fractals but lately they have been replacing them in raids with mesmers /warriors. In PvP they have been nerfed by reducing their staff 5 damage…but then again we did see quite a few great revenants participating troughout the latest PvP tournament, including 2 of them in the finals.
4) Thief: tons of buffs, anet gave them more and more dmg. With daredevil you can play a “traditional” hit and run burst damage now (in pvp) , pve you just melt everything around you and even tho you are super squishy you do have lots of dodges and blocks to dompensate.
5) Ranger: They deal great raw dmg, even more condi dmg, druids were “nerfed” in a way that you actually need SOME healing power (about 800-900) in order to heal the same way as you did pre nerf with your celestial form. Always wanted in raids. Oh and pets got 90% dmg reduction from dmg that didnt target them specifically (such as aoes)
6) Guardians: DH buffed their damage significantly, they are in a very nice position, somewhat used in raids. PvP is full of them (mostly in solo/duo queue, not very common in high end tier tournaments tho)
7) Elementalists; buffed for sure, they can do anything you want. condi burns, tons of aoe dmg, buffing, aura sharing, sustained/burst aoe healing, supporting, ice bowing everything
8) Mesmer: Buffed with more utility. Alacrity is amazing, more quickness is amazing, a must have in raids. PvP also very good with portal plays, shattering and moa
9) Necromancers: a mix. They were originally buffed in a way where one could “exploit” certain minion skills with a healer in order to summon tons of minions that bleed on hit, making necros dps go up as high as 40k+dps… They nerfed so that minions die in 25 s regardless of healing and so necromancers got replaced by something else in raids.
Dungeons and fractals they are good. high end fractals they can still be used as condi dpsers ,very good. PvP they are commonly found, even in tournaments. Reaper power bulds are excelent if you are self sufficient, but you dont offer much to the team soooo..self buff but team oriented nerf?

I haven’t tried it since the new reward track and changes came around but leveling in WvW use to be a ton of fun and very easy.
Low level players used to get buffed quite a bit (probably still do), so even if you only have a couple abilities, you can still be competitive. It would slow down a bit after level 60 or so but was still very doable. I leveled a bunch of my tunes with most of their time in WvW.
Yes it was true. But that was cause you gained chunks of exp from events and kills and such and they removed that part.
Now you can level up only via ToK that you get from wvw reward tracks and you get about 1 per hour if you are only using max participation and the 10% bonus from guild hall.
Considering the pace of leveling you will need about 19 hours before you can have a full set of weapon and utility skills (no ultimate or traits).
The milestones would be:
-20 for full weapon and utility
-21 for most of the first trait line
-31 for elite
-45 for most of the 2nd trait line
-75 for 3rd trait line.
Everything between is a character with mixed stats that you get from loot (unless you spend badges on specific gear with your lvl) and missing skills/traits.
But there are few situations where all that is just fine.
In my example a theif only needs signet of shadows and a shortbow 5 to be able to scout, spot enemies and call them out in /team chat, refresh siege. He can also spam choking gass as a “lots of red circles lets go away” thing vs the enemy zergs
Some other classes can also be useful with specific abilities such as elementalists water fields, necromancers fear.
While it really does depend on your own “idea of fun” (i might suggest a stealthy thief but you like more warrior with aoe cleaving) i can suggest some fun classes for me and give you reasons why they are fun (again for me)
-Elementalists: I like how diverse they can be, obviously they dont exceed in all parts of the game but they do feel versatile when you play them. Lots of aoe, tons of dmg, can support and heal, has ice bow, group friendly.
-Revenant: Another versatile class, perhaps even more so than a ele, but mostly in melee range. Also, tons of reliable boons.
-Warriors: Simple, nooby friendly but very effective. High surviabilty, high dmg, very group friendly, support your team by increasing their dmg drastically. Nothing feels better than to charge head on into a ball of mobs that down everyone else but you keep on fighting, and when you finally do get downed you rise trough vengeance kill the last mob and you get self rezzed from downed state.
-Thief: Stealth and shadowsteps are incredibly fun when exploring the world, the jumping puzzles and mini dungeons. It is also very very useful in group dungeons and fractals.
-Ranger: Noob friendly, versatile weapon choices, has its own “gotta explore and charm em all minigame” with pets. Can be fun to use pets to tank hard champion mobs and it allows you to solo them. Very group friendly, tons of dmg modifiers and best burst healing in game.
As for races here are my views on them:
1) Human: Basic, simple, standard, the classic. Armor looks very nice on them
2) Sylvari: They glow in the dark, their cultural armor also glows in the dark (and can be dyed), they have special parts and dialogues in HoT story. They have a 3s invul elite skill
3) Asura: Very tiny, have some rare special conversations, bad with “fashion” cause tiny size. Their elite skills are fun.
4) Norn: Just a tall version of a human, tho the male ones are a bit broader. Very tall characters= very large weapons. Norns have some really interesting tatoos.
5) Charr: Its fun to play a large strong lion/bull beast. you have tails! Tall charrs= large weapons. Battle roar and warband support racial skills are useful but weaker version of warriors for great justice, and thieves thieves guild elite skill. Note that armor, specially the helm, pants and boots arent often made very good for charrs, tho the new armor added +cultural armor looks great.
quivers are cool, i use one on my thief which is common for people who dont want flashy animated glowy backpacks on a stealthy character.
Dying backpieces would require to rework all of them with at least 2 dyable parts.
But asking for that is the same as asking to be able to dye weapons and shields.
I have a idea for a quiver that you hold around your waist…but that would clip with other melee weapons.
Another idea is that ,like some other games do, is to add 1 quiver per bow skin, not the actual back pack but rather something it comes automatically with the bow/shorbow skin.
But then people would complain about liking 1 skin from a bow, but liking the quiver skin from another bow… it also covers the backpack you have equiped similar to a stoved shield
While i do understand the reality with using tomes from other sources and even scrolls, as well as there being other better ways to lvl up a alt faster, this post isnt about trying to find the best most efficient way to lvl a alt…
This thread shows how long does it take to lvl a character only using WvW with a simple +10% reward track booster (NOT including 10/16 ToK from daily log in rewards you can get trough 30 days, or the extra bonus reward track progression you get by doing daily WvW achievements).
This thread also shows what rewards you would get if you level to 80 using 10 tracks that grant you a set of exotic armor and 3/4 rare weapons. Clearly you can go do other reward tracks like 10 arah dungeon reward track (same amount of ToK, 10 exotic armor, 30 exotic weapons +tons of dungeon tokens)
Again..im well aware of better and more efficient ways to lvl up an alt. Please read again the final 2 parts where i explain why i would not recommend this kind of leveling and why would anyone want to do this and it should be clear
Go play EOTM if you plan to do this. Playing thief is a bad idea as you are likely to end up dead a lot without contributing much, but that won’t matter in EOTM.
You’re basically a walking loot bag as a low level toon. A free res for an enemy downed in zerg fights.
You’re not helping anyone doing this except yourself, and in fact are damaging your server.
You would be much better off instant 80 with tomes and then spend the 80 hours or so actually running a decent build with foods etc.
I have the feeling like you didn’t quite understand the thief part, or that you didn’t even read the part where i don’t recommend doing this…
Also doing it in EotM awards about 50 points less per tick so it would take about 25% longer to do it with the method mentioned above.
Hello
I had the idea of creating a new character and leveling it trough wvw only, but then i remembered there are no exp rewards in wvw.
So i looked into it a bit further and i remembered i can use tomes of knowledge from reward tracks.
One would need to :
1)Finishing 10 Reward tracks (see below which ones)
2)Approx time: 7h,44min per reward track (with 10% wvw buff from guild)
3)Total approx time: 77h,20min
4)Trough a period of 30 days, one would need to play for 2h,34 minutes per day with max participation
5) This does not count in the 10/16 tomes of knowledge that you can get from daily log in rewards or the ones you get from WvW rank up rewards.
6) This does not count in the reward track progression you gain trough the daily wvw achievements
So here is a nice list of things you get from lvl 2-80 with a character that never left wvw:
-6x Triumphant armor reward track (so you get free 6 pieces of exotic armor)
-1x Gift of battle reward track (in case you dont have one, but would want one in the future.
-3/4x Hero Weapon reward track (3x if you did the gift of battle track, 4 if not. You get 3/4 rare weapons with cool skins)
Total Rewards:
-Lootbox: 251-264 (0-251/264 spirit shards)
-Veteran Lootbox: 39/43 (117/129 obsidian shards)
-Champion Lootbox: 34/39 (bunch of Empyrial fragments, Dragonyte ore and Bloodstone dust)
-Memory of battle: 155/170 (6,93G)
-Transmutation charge: 20/24
-Crafting material Coffer: 37/41
-Superior Blueprints: 81/90 (23,25g)
-Obsidian shard: 12
-Mystic clover: 2
-2 extra Tomes of Knowledge (2 spirit shards)
-Exotic Triumphant armor: 6
-Rare Hero weapons: 3/4
-Gift of battle: 1
Would i recommend leveling a character this way? Not at all:
-WvW is not for everyone
-Its not a efficient way to level up (but could be drastically improoved via WvW rank up rewards + daily log in rewards + Daily wvw Achievements)
-Its not a efficient way to gear up (youll mostly get random blues and greens tho the option of buying rares/exotics with badges is there)
-The majority of time you will be under powered compared to others (low level, weak gear, some skills but mostly trait lines are locked away all the way to lvl 75)
-Being under powered most of the time you are not really a use to anyone in a large scale battle (exclusives exist)
Why would anyone even try this?
-Personal challenge /side project
-Doing it on a “forgiving” class such as a thief where you can use your high mobility to gain participation from scouting, tagging enemy zergs and soloing guards.
-Its quite a fun idea, tho not many players have the will or patience to try it out. (they would just use their already stacked up dusty ToK to instant lvl a character)
So what are your thoughts?
(edited by Vukorep.3081)
..but im hearing they arent wanted in any sort of group at all?
TLDR: I wanna main necro to focus on a single character and be able to do all content with it. But i dont want to experience people telling me to switch character or being kicked from groups instantly all the time (mainly from dungeons/fractals)
Now i do have very good other characters, a dh, ele, ranger,revnant,warrior.. But i decided to start a new character and main it, focusing all my time and effort into 1 character (since all other characters have like, 60% world completion, half a elite spec, or havent even been into hot or s3 maps)
I found necro really fun, i have a perfect skin combination for it that i really enjoy having it on a character i play with, same goes with weapons.
Besides that they cant heal like a rev,ele or druids can (which i enjoy but mostly on npcs rather than on real players), and that they cant really buff up their party members in some ways like other professions can in dungeons and fractals (might stacking, profession specific buffs, swiftness) i really see no issue of having it as a main character for doing everything.
However i keep hearing necros are shunned at and kicked from groups of dungeons, fractals and even raids? Personally i never had any problems having a necro in my group while i was doing dungeons/fractals (i dont rly do much raids..yet) and i had no problems clearing those contents with one or more necros in team.
So what are your thoughts?
TLDR: I am a casual pve player with lots of time, i only started playing pvp very actively because pvp leagues were introduced, specifically ,because i wanted to get a few wings skins (not the entire legendary backpack) but instead i manged (will manage in a week) to get the entire legendary backpack
I am a “casual in heart”. While i do have lots of free time to spend in gw2 (and i do) i play many different things on many different characters all the time. I rarely raid, i rarely do fractals but i do some ocasional dungeons here and there.
I do things in order to get very specific rewards that i wish at that time. I do dungeons cause i wanted a few dungeon skins, or achievements related to dungeons so i can get mastery points.
over the past 4 years i used to do maybe 1-2 pvp games per week (which, after the patch, brought me up to wolf rank) But it was only during the introduction of PvP leagues and legendary backpack when i really started playing pvp more frequiently.
My first goal was to get at least the first 2 wings, maybe i could get also the 3rd one (because i spend half a year without internet, missing some leagues completely).
But because i was very very active during the first 2 pvp leagues i am now getting the complete legendary backpack + glider which is amazing to me.
I made a post maybe 20 days ago about me realizing that i can get the backpack in 25 days if i win 4 matches and get 5 top stats per day. I am about a week away from achieving it and i will make a 2nd thread with some statistics of the things i acquired trough the last pvp season.
Yea i know its been quite a while but some people might still now know about the sylvari in hot sooo..spoilers?
Anyway, I mean the other races, how do they feel about sylvari now that they know they are dragon minions?
The races leaders gladly joined on a summit “inside” the pale tree, she knew sylvari were minions of modremoth, the pact got smashed to bits and everyone was mistrusting the sylvari during the fight.
And now after modremoth has been defeated everything seems to be back to normal?
Besides the vague nods from caithe where she tells that the whole sylvari race is now truly looking for its place in this world…and not much going on with the news of the pale tree… what now?
If you were playing a sylvari as a pact commander then surely you proven your self amongs everyone including your team of braham, kass and marjory ect, but how does the rest of tyria look on sylvari now?
or did i miss something ?
Death shroud is many things in 1.
-Large absorption shield /reduced damage while in shroud
-“reducing” skills cooldown while safe in shroud
-Different set of skills along with your 2 weapons, can aoe, pierce, fear, torment whatever. And then theres reaper shroud and all the traits that make it a near invincible killing machine
-Shroud builds and life force regeneration technically grants you thousands of “health” regeneration per second.
Idk why those people who you read from think DS “is one of the more poorly-designed special class mechanics of the game”… perhaps they think “gain 30 adrenaline for a single hard hitting attack that can miss” is a much better designed class mechanic?
Eles dont even really have a profession specific mechanics, they just have 10 extra skills for each weapon available on switch (+1 aoe while being tempests)
Id like to start that besides the world and the lore there isnt much to compare gw2 and gw1 on.
Adding hard mode in dungeons fractals and raids by simply buffing up the monsters health/toughness and adding a few more skills wouldnt change anything with the players.
People will still have full zerker and try to burst it down..it would just take a little longer with a few extra dodges. And if you think the current dungeons would get raid tier quality bosses then you are going to be dissapointed.
We see “hard mode” in fractals via the agony system, special global effects, and lastly the latest fractal did add raid tier bosses and mechanics. Not only that there is indeed a hard mode version of the latest nightmare fractal where things are often different than they normally are (different, not random)
As for hard mode personal story….personal story is ment to be soloable and PERSONAL. The story revolves around the character, not the character+ 4 or 9 other players. They “fixed” the replay “issues” with adding some easy, some hard achievements that reward you with mastery points, ascended gear and even some gem store items.
