Raids are not impossible for newcomers. I joined a raiding guild about 3 weeks ago that has both NA and EU training runs and moderate requirements to join and learn: no experience required, exotic gear minimum (and not even necessary to have fully meta gear as long as it is close) and the right build for your profession. I learned my role and got 2 different boss kills in my first 2 weeks of being in the guild. So if they would accept a newcomer with no kills previously, I would hardly call them “elitist” (not to mention that most of the other players had no kills previously either), and I would hardly say raids are impossible for newcomers.

Whether it is fun or not is up to you. For me, following the meta approach was not a problem, since it was actually fun to try different builds and tactics that I never used before, and achieving the kills finally made it worthwhile.

Friend of the owl spirit – the event is required to fail and never does apparently because of people doing the map or trolls. For some reason this is a very popular event nowadays.

Did anyone do these events in Plains of Ashford this weekend? They never seeem to start.

Friend of the owl spirit has become the most frustrating thing I ever had to do in GW2.

I completed the Siegemaster event last night. Haven’t done the Barridin chain yet.

You can indeed repurchase the Chest of Artistry from Grandmaster Craftsman Hobbs for 10k karma.

I had just zoned into Dragon’s Stand right at the end of the Meta chain. I unlocked 2 of the waypoints as normal, then died as the Meta failed and was sent to the beginning of the zone. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I had all the waypoints in the zone unlocked. Not sure if that is the intended behavior.

I think you get a win bonus only if you scored pts for the winning team before being auto-balanced to the other team.

Annihilator spawned 2x in 5 minutes last night, now it’s getting just a bit much.

No one knows, but it will likely end when today’s patch is pushed.

I have issues sometimes when my Ranger respawns, and is still in combat. This happens a lot because my pet respawns where I died, and sometimes takes burning damage from a turret, or AOE, and if my pet is in combat, then I am also in combat.

PS Also blame Anet for having just THE WORST matchmaking in the history of games with matchmaking! If they’re going to put beginners and veterans on the same team… No vet wants to play with/against beginners and vice versa! Also blame Anet for not trying to get new players to play their game! One of the reasons why matchmaking is so bad is because of the lack of players!

• This is a pastime, a game, a place to compete but also make friends, and the toxicity that is rampant just makes it impossible to enjoy sometimes, win or lose.
• See above point, its about having fun, NOT being serious.
• I’d rather populate my contacts, rather than my ignores, and maybe have some friendly banter with my teammates or foes before each match, which the blocking function hinders.
• That isn’t a valid excuse for personal attacks on other players. It is just a weak way to justify this lowest common denominator form of despicable behavior.

PS: Yes, the matchmaking is frustrating, but raging at new players isn’t going to encourage them to get better and increase the PvP community population. Making reasoned posts like OP’s is a much better option, IMO.

I just looked at the leaked balance changes (http://pastebin.com/2bk8bnHx), and funnily enough Anet seems to have decided Air sigil with 3 second cooldown is overpowered and it needs a nerf to 5 seconds again.

That makes me wonder if they are actually aware it still has a 5 second cooldown, or that they simply can’t be asked to make it 3 seconds as the tooltip now states. (technically, they would only have to change the tooltip to incorporate the ‘nerf’)

As an additional note, the 8 dungeon tracks are also unlocked in a rotating basis for 2 week periods, for everyone, even if you haven’t unlocked the track via story mode. Currently, the Caudecus Manor PvP dungeon reward track is unlocked.

I would screen shot it and have this thread moved to the bugs forum.

This happens to me every time I run the bear lope guild rush under the Priory in Lornar’s Pass, in the same exact location (the grawl caves) and only lasts for the same amount of time consistently. It is strange though, since other players can see me, and it doesn’t happen to my guildies who are also doing the rush.

Those are both bugs.

I think if you try to use hunter’s shot when carrying the orb that you get an immune message and the stealth fails, but you don’t drop the orb.

Would sure make it easier to find the real mesmer or stealthed thieves

Can you show a printscreen of the scoreboard at the end of a match, and your pvp board before and after, showing your stats?

Make sure your video card software has anti-aliasing set to either off or use application settings.

1. The level 5 spear missing could be a bug. However, make sure you have no filters applied in your recipe window (the drop-down arrow next to the search box). You should see the Mighty Bronze Spear (simple) recipe in the main recipe window, AFAIK.
2. You don’t seem to have the required http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mighty_Green_Inscription for the level 10 spear anywhere in your inventory-at least it isn’t showing up in the discovery ingredients panel (a green dowel with a sword icon).
3. There is no level 15 Mighty spear, according to the wiki.

Is it possible that you completed Plains and already collected rewards for it, then “re-completed” it by doing the recently added renown hearts? You wouldn’t collect any further map completion rewards if that is the case.

• Issue: The cannon cannot fire at some targets near the ‘A’ capture point that should be in range – when aiming, I get the ban symbol.

I took a screenshot but the red ban symbol didn’t show up in it.

I know it has been brought up before but players purposefully burning massive amounts of keep supply on useless siege creates a lot of animosity. It stings quite a bit since there is nothing current players can do about it. We just had a guy drain over 2k supply building rams and trebs in SM for the express purpose of killing all the supply in the keep. The placement made them completely useless.

Any thoughts on how to handle this? Do you fellows consider this to be a problem?

Send in reports to A-net, my server has had issues with siege trollers and they have vanished after we reported them many times.

When I was killing a necro, he suddenly blocked me for multiple attacks. I don’t recall the necro having any blocking ablities, and I’ve played necro for over a year. On Yak’s Bend borderlands, I got disconnected when trying to waypoint into our citadel, with error code: 7:11:3:191:101. Also, I tried to waypoint to an uncontested Garrison and nothing happened. Other players are having similar issues as well, disconnecting when they go through the glowy portals, for example.

ETA: I just got lagged out in YBBL Bay, with the same error code.

Here is my pitch.
We have an incredible coverage disparity and greatly outnumber both Kaineng and Yak’s, so much so that you’ll notice I haven’t been in WvW (except for one epic Mesmer ninja of Bay – Thanks ML!).
Because of the coverage issue, there isn’t much challenge in building a waypoint because (like what happened with BP) it becomes a night cap. Amazing as it was as a community effort, I’d like to see us work very hard for it, and give Kain and Yak’s a true chance to stop SBI.
Same essential rules as last time.

1. We put together a pool of financial resources (I’ll throw in some gold, natch) for the next 24 hours to determine prizes and participants.
2. Explain the plan to YB and Kain to see if they are even interested.
3. Capture Yak’s Bend Garrison.
4. Claim it for your guild.
5. Get a waypoint built.
6. You MUST complete steps 3-5 in the eight hour period beginning Wednesday, October 2nd at 7:00 PM Eastern (4:00 PM Server) and ending Thursday, October 3rd at 3:00 AM Eastern (12:00 AM Server).
7. During this time, you MUST maintain all three keeps on SBI Borderland. If SBI BL loses a Keep during this time, SBI has failed.

If SBI is able to get this done, the claiming guild gets the pot.

If Kain and Yaks are able to split the map, East and West, and PREVENT SBI from building a waypoint in Yak’s Bend Garrison, we divide the cash award and donate half each to Kain and Yaks.

To sweeten the offer to Kain and YB, I will personally donate siege equipment to the first 5 KN / YB WvW guilds that accept the challenge. 5 Alpha Golems, 5 super rams, 5 super catas, 2 super trebs PLUS an additional 2 Omega golems to the first guild from each server that wants in.

If you are planning to PUG speedclears of dungeons and fractals, then you should roll a warrior or a guardian.

However, if you are doing dungeons/fractals/etc with friends who don’t discriminate by what the fotm build is, play what you have fun with.

Personally, I main a ranger with Kudzu, and find the play-style a lot more fun than that of other professions (I have level 80 toons on every profession, and multiples of some). Rangers have good survivability with access to endurance regen, ability to attack at very long range, access to an extra tank/meat shield, access to many different (pet) utilities, though this is offset by bad pet AI and pathing which causes problems against high damage foes like dungeon bosses that one-shot or aoe damage the pet, and by problems with the 1-hand sword’s attack chain animations. They can hold their own in sPvP and PvE, and while they aren’t desired in zerg busting guilds in WvW, they can help in large scale battles with water fields and piercing arrows, or in other ways as scouts and camp capturers. I haven’t player Mesmer enough to really comment on how fun they are, but they seem to do fairly well in sPvP and they have some very useful and unique abilities (portal, time warp).

Mainly, make up your own mind by playing Ranger and seeing if you like it. If you just go by the posts on the forums, you probably wouldn’t even try out the profession.

(Also, there is a patch coming out tomorrow that has some small enhancements for Rangers along with a major nerf to endurance regen :/).
