I got to level 32 on my necro purely on wvw, plan was to go to 80 exclusively in wvw but it was a bit slow and not quite as fun as playing one of my 80s in there so I gave up a few days ago.

A valid point that needs raising here; I think everyone who plays a thief understands how to counter this behaviour, which means it is more to do with the understanding (or lack of) of the mechanics being used, or in the vernacular: l2p

That said, the culling sure is an issue and point capture/defence should work the same as in spvp.

Imo, rewards from capture should scale on the amount of property you own on that particular map, to encourage holding and defending not just capping and forgetting.

I wish you luck in the future fights and to leave division two this week so we can have some healthy games.

I just ask from you not to spit on FS and our players as you don’t know how hard is to play under this condition. We are giving our best for several weeks now, constantly fighting the servers with 3rd shift. No matter how hard you try to minimize what we done we were always worthy opponents.

You said we whine on the forums, just stop for a second and take a deep breath, think about how do we feel in this situation and try to place in our position. Yes, people are angry and yes, people cry about night shift but we also work to improve our play style, to organize our guilds, to attract more people to join us. We don’t give up, its just not what we do and what we will do in the future.

So don’t make this harder for us then it is, don’t spam our recruiting post with trash talk about our community and language differences. Let us cover the 3rd shift for good of all WvW community in GW2.

Good luck vs French realms if you menage to get to d1.

Last time we (des) faced viz (week 38 or earlier) we lost ground heavily through their nightcapping. This resulted in a lot of transfer trash abandoning us and we fell down to 9th place rating over the next few weeks.

In the threads at the time there was some whining (not from me I accept we need 24/7 coverage) but there was nothing like this constant bleating from FS forum users.

General feeling (at least from where I was looking) is we accepted as a headstart high pop server we needed to fall to rebuild stronger and work our way back up the ratings.

Good post.

For me the glaring issues are:

1. unrestricted server transfers are causing ongoing weekly imbalances
2. the reason for being in wvw should be more focussed

What I mean in 2. is currently you get people in wvw for a myriad of different reasons, some of which are counterproductive (winning wvw, levelling, getting monthly kills, getting badges, getting exploration, crafting, doing jumping puzzles, getting karma , mining etc.) This needs to be more focussed, the primary reason people should be in wvw is to help their server win the current match and anet needs to put in measures that help this focus. As a quick example; the jumping puzzles should be separate instances with their own player limit/queues that do not count towards the actual map player limits.

Some people in this thread need to grow up and stop the whining/hate about ruin. It has been obvious for some time that to be at the top of the table a server will need 24/7 coverage, and fighting other servers who want to be top of the table will mean 24/7 fighting, no pvdoor.

Also, sat, when FS was dominating, we had outmanned buff on at least 2 of the 4 maps, des has had a lot of glory transfers this week I think, seeing a lot of friendly tags I’ve never seen before during the day.

Bottom line, if you’re going to hate anyone for the state of wvw, hate arenanet, they a. made a system that requires 24/7 coverage and b. have allowed free transfers to go on for far too long.

I’m sure they know it’s an issue, they’re not fools, their stats must show transfer trash jumping to winning servers on a weekly basis and the negative impact that can cause to both the server being jumped from and the one being jumped to.

Pretty sure I speak for a lot of people here when I say I’d like to know their thoughts/feelings/plans about this issue.

Precursor Market - False Stability

Many people obsess over the precursor without thinking about all the other things you have to worry about.

Other things are all set in stone though and can be planned for, even with the rng on clovers. Precursor is the only really variable thing without a 100% reliable way of getting it because it is partly dictated by how actual players price/value the items (both buyers and sellers).

You can get lucky with 4x 15 silver rares, you could feed 1000g of rares into the forge or you could plan to buy it off the tp with its fluctuating prices.

Personally I’m about half way there with all the other stuff just through playing a lot, before I start focus grinding I want the precursor just in case it is impossible to get when I have all the rest done, so all my money for the last month has been kitten into the forge trying to get lucky.

Assume the shards are sA, sB, and sC. In order to handle a 3 way battle we treat each match as having two battles for each shard. So when calculating the new rating for sA the two battles are sA vs. sB and sA vs. sC. Likewise for sB and sC. Naturally, we do all the calculations before updating any of the data.

We use a Tau of 0.6 and a k of 1.0

In standard Glicko 2 scores are represented as 0.0 for a loss, 0.5 for a draw, and 1.0 for a win. We use a slightly modified version that takes into account score differential. I’ll explain how using the sA vs. sB battle as an example. To calculate the glicko score for sA in the sA vs. sB matchup we do the following:

sAPercent = sAScore / (sAScore + sBScore)
sAGlickoScore = (sin((sAPercent – 0.5) * Pi) + 1) * 0.5

where sAScore and sBScore are the raw scores from the end of the match.

free transfers definitely sucks, been on desolation since day 1 and seen big ups and downs due to people transferring on and off. Needs to exclude people from current match and possibly next match when switching server. Transfers dont need to cost anything, they should just have some sensible wvw restriction applied.

some heavy tactics used by fs lastnight, super mass balling to maximise culling “efficiency”, loads of projectile reflection, mass invis, and use of mesmer portals. You certainly know how to make a fight tedious

Tactically we are a bit behind all the servers around us, always have been (deso since day 1 of headstart here). This is largely due to having a massive chubby on for attack and little care for defence. Both fs and kod, and other servers we have fought in the last few weeks, have tactically outplayed us at times (holding supply camps, starving us of supply etc). Our all out attack mentality does have benefits but we still need to raise our overall game.

Also 24/7 coverage is part of the game, specially if you want to be in the top half of the table, wtb oceanic guilds

The simple strategy is to take out the nerf bat.

I know ANet has some statisticians working for them. I formulate an alternative hypothesis that the sheer number of actual level 80 exotic geared Thieves participating in WvW has a positive correlation with the outcome of a WvW match that is more statistically significant than any other class’s contribution using the same criteria.

In other words, this video is just another example of the God-like powers I see Thieves using and abusing every day.

and if those stats show thieves are balanced?

It’s gone beyond paid now, some people are willing to throw money at it (and some people have made a kitten tonne in game), it needs to have a wvw restriction on transfer.

On transfer locked out of wvw until the end of the next match up, imo.

We (deso) seem to love making excuses, whining about nightcapping when we won primarily due to nightcapping just 2 short weeks ago, now complaining about the orb hacking (which is bad ofc) as if this is the one factor that is having an effect on the actual outcome of this weeks match.

Two of the servers larger guilds forum bickering shows exactly where we are at with server teamwork.

Having jumping puzzles in wvw is fine, imo, however having lots of people in puzzles when there is a hard fought battle going on in the main zone and a queue to get in is not so good, it has potential to kitten a lot of people off.

Puzzles should be their own instance, dying in puzzle should put you back at the start of puzzle and exiting puzzle back into main map should put you in a queue if the map is full.

Better solution to removing them would be to make them a separate instance with its own number limit so the number of people in puzzle isn’t counted against the number of people in the main wvw zones.

As for no pvp in there, sorry, they’re in wvw for a reason, harsh that they have achievements linked though if you’re a full non pvper.

its pets
loud noises are:

pet footfalls (noticed bears doing it quite a bit)
flapping wings (flame elemental is often the cause here)
splashing (bone minions and have also seen issue with shark pet and underwater bear pet)

Im currently duo levelling with a ranger, its happened quite a bit, when it does I ask him to switch pet and it stops it.

So when you won last week against Augury Rock thanks to nightcapping, it was fine.
Now that you are losing, it’s unfair ?

I don’t remember us attacking any of the servers in their spawn and owning more than 95% of all the maps, so I have no clue what the hell you are talking about…..

we had 95%+ every morning last week, we don’t have a lot of daytime players though it seems so this was always followed by a gradual loss of around 2/3 of the maps during the day

If we (des) want to really compete then we need alliances and our own nightshift. We have no alliances, we have very little tactics, no one cares to defend supply lines or establish defensible footholds and ironically we dominated on the nightshift last week against augary and gunnars so we had night players only a week ago, they maybe just cant compete with better nightshift players from other servers.

Currently we are only ranked high due to our zerg, that wont last, we either sink to the true mid level place our tactics merits or we up our game and try to attract others to the server.

1st thing required is a stop on free transfers though, without that we’ll never get a true picture, and without that I personally cba to waste my time in wvw.

Server transfer was always supposed to cost, with guesting as a free option (and from the outset guesting meant you were blocked from wvw on the guest server). I agree that it should have been free at first but that time is now well past and I believe the free transfer has for a good few weeks been detrimental to the game.

I understand the people paid their money argument but I’ll never agree with it, you don’t just switch sides in a football match to always be on the winning side, you help to make your own side better or accept your place.

It’s a difference between playing the game and gaming the game, I’ll always try to play the game in front of me, some people will always try to cheat it for personal gain. In my opinion it is the responsibility of the game developers to provide an environment where the game can be played as intended.

You call that a good thing, I think that is the problem. You shouldn’t be able to hop to the winners, the game should encourage (and I think is designed to encourage) server pride rather than allow gaming the system like this.

Your server should be a meaningful thing for you, I’ve been desolation since day1 of headstart and only care where my server is in the ranking.

I think they are, am curious if others feel the same way. In addition to the 24 hour thing I think they should add a 3 day wvw block on server transfers to stop people gaming the system.

Also while I’m here, do other server have the total lack of tactics that Desolation has? we have absolutely no grasp (as a server) of the importance of defence or feints, we just zerg attack everything that’s not our colour. Expect to see Desolation slide down the ranks.

what a kitten of a quest, who the kitten thought it was good to have respawning mobs and ally npcs with dumb aggressive ai wants kicking in the balls. On my 3rd character with this now and its bugged at least once on each run though, just got right near the end and the resarchers decided to stop following me, kitten.

Only way I know is 4 pieces from the personal story quests when you get to Orr, although the helm looks different to the one in the pvp locker (I made a thread about that asking if anyone had seen it in the game but got no replies).

I have got 4 pieces of the set as the rewards from the personal story quests, think all 4 pieces were from straits of devastation parts of the chain, so if you do them you end up with (at least, I may have missed/lost some) coat, legs, shoulders and helm (which as said in the original post is a different design than the one in the pvp locker).
