Guardian; PVT or Zerker?

in Guardian

Posted by: ref.8196

ref.8196

I run with a full zerker set, full PVT set, full clerics set (and full MF set ) and switch accordingly. 80% of the time I will be using zerker’s, but there are a few times I will need to switch to PVT for the increased vitality, and a few times I will put clerics on to heal the group.

Using zerker 100% of the time is as stupid as using PVT 100% of the time. Switching armors and skills between fights is always necessary.

Plus 10 in radiance does not refresh virtue on kill. Total agreement with the post above.

That’s because you need 15 in radiance for that.

Not all mobs work. Mobs which don’t drop loot don’t usually trigger it. It’s always been like that though.

I (and a friend) finally got to lvl 48 and started making our own “3 more, /join Ref” invites on gw2lfg.com.

And found that class rarely matters. It’s true that the fastest and safest way is 4 war + guard.

However, for pugs, the quality of players varies so much it’s not even worth asking for warriors. You will get warriors not using banners, or not co-ordinating them properly. You will get warriors using completely the wrong weapons in some places. Warriors that don’t know how to dodge.

We had war/guard/thief/ele/ranger once. We did not mind this setup (a lot of people will not like it because it’s “slow” or “paper”). We laughed (not in party chat, I would never get anal about stuff like this in game) at the ranger using speed (25% movement speed) signet constantly (literally all the time, even at Bloomhunger where you don’t really have to even move). But it turned out to be one of the fastest runs (definitely faster than a lot of 4war+guard runs) we have done. Despite the weird setup (and weird skills from a ranger).

What matters most of all is player ability and intelligence, and the willingness to listen to other party members.

yea, at this moment, i feel the MF buff is nice, but nowhere near game changing. i’d be interested to try out MI, but i feel i won’t enjoy it. a 6k heal sounds nice, but what happens if you’re stuck in a fight with no one else around? i guess i can’t see myself giving up the utilities i’m used to for MI. but, nevertheless, i’ll have to give it a shot first.D

MI doesn’t work as intended. There have been many times where the nearest ally to me has full health, and there are other allies with lower health (in range) and I would just port to the nearest ally.

I think it REALLY need to be targetable. It wouldn’t be useful because of the targetable heal, but that you could do stuff like port to an ally and use shield skill 5, or get in range to other allies. With the random porting mechanism you don’t really know where you are going, which really isn’t great.

The first bit of the dredge one is easy if you do it right:

-Have one person open the first switch, the other 4 go in and kill the 2 vets at the gate while the first guy comes back down.
-When both vets are dead, have a different person go and open the second switch, and wait for all 4 people to go in (do not aggro anything).
- The second switch guy runs down, at this point you have 4 party members just inside the gate, have one of them go and suicide on the RIGHT switch (and the rest do not aggro anything).
- With the 3 party members, clear the left hand side (not aggroing the right hand side)
- Open switch, the 5th party member outside the gate runs in and helps
- Someone goes and does the console while the 3 party members take aggro off him (and it’s really easy at this point)

Done. Doesn’t take long.

Greatsword + sword + focus

3 aoe blind skills + the 2nd focus skill which gives you 3 blocks.

15 in radiance for Justice is Blind and Renewed Justice

And then 5 in virtues so you also get might.

The idea is to leap in with greatsword (so you get the first aoe blind), do some damage (number 2 skill), swap to sword and use number 2 skill, do some damage, followed by the 1st focus skill for more blinds, followed by the 2nd focus skill, then swap back to greatsword, activate the 3rd skill again, then the 2nd, then start activating virtue of justice if any mobs are on low health. When mobs start dying you can just spam virtue of justice, at this point you won’t usually die unless there’s quite a few mobs.

“GW2 – the game without grind and farming” © ANet ^^
LOL

There are many places in GW2 where this joke would fit in, but it’s not here.

This is purely cosmetic, and not that much of a grind anyway.

That was never said.

Also, is anyone doing the math on this (binomial calculator)? I’m putting in guesses for the % drop, and looking at the data, nothing makes any sense. Apparently on the wiki someone tried over 4000 coffers and got nothing. Even if the chance is 0.0004 (using decimal, multiply by 100 to get percent) it’s statistically improbably (basically 0% chance). And if that’s true, using that same number for people who got a ticket in the first 100 chests, that chance is also statistically improbable.

I’m using a binomial distribution, but when the amount of trials is over 1000 you might as well use normal.

Indeed people seem to get the idea as you open more chests the chance goes up for what they are after but it never changes.

Kinda like me re-installing this game thinking they would make getting event loot more reasonable. It never changes.

Why did I even re-install the game?

Of course the chance on a single coffer doesn’t go up. But you have a greater chance getting the ticket if you open 200 as opposed to 100.

Anyone else feel that the RNG is not random?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ref.8196

ref.8196

The issue with discussing randomness in games is selective bias. Yes, the chances of getting a fractal sword 6 times (assuming you only do 6 fractals) is 8.82×10^-7% (yes, percent) (I actually don’t believe this happened until I see evidence). However, the chances of one person, out of everyone who plays, getting at least 6 fractal swords in their play time is significantly higher.

People will come to the forum to complain about the RNG when they are unlucky. So you will see many threads related to ‘bad luck’. However, you will not get everyone with good luck coming to the forums.

The only people who can truly see the data is A-net themselves. Until they confirm there’s nothing wrong with it (by looking at the data) you will get people coming here complaining that it’s bugged. I’ve seen it happen in other games.

And yes, a computer is incapable of making truly random rolls. However, it’s definitely random enough (and arguably there’s no such thing as truly random in the real world, it only exists in mathematics).

This is ridiculous. You can still farm extremely efficiently in southsun cove. If you know where to look and how to farm, it’s possible to find 20t6/5 crates an hour with 350% MF. Even after this ‘nerf’.

There was an area of the map which was completely bugged. There was a spawn area for skelks where about 20 would spawn just outside of the map, but you could still see them, and if you had long enough aoe range you could pull them all. It was obviously a bug, and it has been fixed. But it has not affected in any way the efficiency of farming before the patch (assuming you didn’t spend all your time on that 1 beach, running around tagging skelks).

No it doesn’t. Ascended items do not affect the art in the game. They affect the mechanics.

Graphics =/= art. Graphics is a technical thing only. Crysis had great graphics. It had no art. On the other hand, gw2 has pretty bad graphics, but the art more than matkes up for it.

Retreat should be on a 45 second cool down

in Guardian

ref.8196

I would agree Retreat should be on a 45 second cooldown. Currently I believe every other class has some sort of either traited or signet speed increase, yet we have to rely on staff/retreat to move across maps in WvW, otherwise we are sitting ducks to zergs going from one point to another.

We should have at least a 10% run speed increase added to one of out minor traits.

And then we have to make sure to use the symbol of swiftness first so we get at least 30 seconds and not 4 seconds because of some stupid bug that hasn’t been fixed since bwe1

I’m having problems with scepter auto attack:

1. Not being able to stop auto attacking, or there being a huge delay when doing things like reviving people/picking objects from the floor. Stowing the weapon doesn’t help. It does on other weapons.
2. Auto-attacking targeted mobs when the feature “stop auto attacking on target change” is on. I have seen this happen to other guardians also, pulling unwanted mobs.

Anyone else have these problems? It’s extremely frustrating.

Here you go: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNAW7dlYg67GFyKEfIFRuA7DEETBGz41jE6QGC;TYAgzCts+Y8x+jJBA

You will want knights/soldiers armor with knights/clerics/soldiers jewelry.

Use virtue of courage/retreat/shield of wrath for blocks. Courage/retreat should be saved for team mates while on stage 2, when he teleports to them, so they don’t get knocked down. Try and save courage on passive so you can use it twice (block, then press it again to get aegis so you can block again).

Shield of wrath is best used when low on endurance on stage 2 when he casts the red circles spell. Or use it so you don’t have to dodge. If you are fast, you can rez someone using all 5 blocking skills (rez from downed). Use these blocks correctly and you won’t even go downed (basically did a 2man lupicus last night).

Staff can be used for emergency heal with empower on any stage. Symbol of swiftness works well on stage 3 when he does the large AoE life drain. The other skills are pretty pointless, but the heal is vital. For the sphere of warding (on stage 3) try and dodge it first, if you fail, use stand your ground and dodge immediately. If you fail again (you should have SYG up, it has a 24 second recharge) either: switch to staff and use empower (if you have allies near you), switch to focus and use SoW, and as a last resort use healing signet.

You can switch renewed focus for tome of courage.

It seems to work well. It’s low damage but as tanky as possible.

Why are drop rates so bad in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ref.8196

ref.8196

Because they want you to buy gems from the store to exchange them for gold.

No, if A-net wanted people to buy gems for gold, they would make the exchange rate so that it’s actually worth doing so, not by decreasing drop rates. And if that made them more money, they would already be doing that. But they haven’t. Because it’s not their business plan. If they wanted a pay to play game they would have created one. But they didn’t. Making a microtransactions game and then essentially making it pay to play is not a sound business strategy and it doesn’t work (and again, because if it did, it would already be in place.

We are running 1 or 2 Arah paths a day now with our guild, as I want the tokens. The dungeon is actually pretty sick. By that I mean the bosses are generally fun and varied, and the area itself is just awesome.

As far as I know, path 2 takes about 60 to 90 mins, and path 3 takes about 30 mins or less (with a general group, not one optimized for the path, and definitely not a pug).

But the thing is, the rewards suck. Apart from the tokens, none of us have found anything interesting. We don’t skip all the trash mobs, only some.

The dungeon would just be much more fun if there was a bigger reward. It seems to be the hardest dungeon in the game, but the rewards don’t reflect this.
