why do people hate mesmers?

There’s some stuff I really want to see balanced down a bit (CI, BD, PU) but all these declarations that you can literally faceroll your way through anything on a mesmer now are pretty dang comical.

And the whole “Mesmer used to take skill!” song and dance is just sad. Sad.

I agree totally.

So much exaggeration/hyperbole regarding mesmers at the moment, it’s getting kind of silly now.

There are one or two small mesmer specific things that can be toned down to help with balance (CS, Blinding Dissipation, PU, perhaps the free 15% phantasm damage). Everything else is to do with toning down damage across the board – amulets, damage calculations and so on.

Aside from those two or three traits, mesmer is totally fine and not much different than pre patch.

That actually sounds awesome – detonating your Chaos Armour to damage or apply conditions to enemies and grant boons to allies.

Reminds me of Annihilation Field, Barrier or Tech Armour in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.

I really like it.

Maybe it’s just me, but I just don’t see thematically a Mesmer using a pistol. I mean if your just going to shoot something in the face… why mesmerize them? Off-hand I see it as a last resort for sucking at Mesmer’ing.

What if I told you.. there was no weapons. That gun you see in my Mesmer’s hands. It’s not there. It’s me playing a trick on your mind. You think I have a gun, but it’s in fact just an illusion. That snake curling up near your feet.. that is real though. Us Mesmer’s can’t afford bullets anyways. Nobody takes us to dungeons anymore.

I basically roleplay this anyway – the only way I can make sense of weapon swap magically pulling out another weapon set from thin air.

Or for example mind stab thrusting a GS into the ground and pulling it out in around 1 second. Has to be an illusion!

This is definitely one of the best LS updates, and certainly my favourite.

I don’t care how linear it is
- the landscape and visuals are stunning. Seriously. Stunning. I don’t know who is on the team responsible for creating the map/atmosphere, but they are consistently brilliant
- the npcs are fun to engage with
- the character dialogue is as usual fantastic
- the way each story segment leads you through the map is great

I will say I’ve not been keen on the huge focus on LS, feeling that effort could be better spent elsewhere in the game. However I no longer hold that view and tip my hat to the excellent work so far in LS2.

GW2 should have been human only.

lol this is going nowhere fast. xD

1. I identify with asura perfectly fine despite being human IRL. I’d go as far as saying I identify with asura MORE than in game humans, personality wise. In game humans are stereotypical fantasy nonsense. Therefore having player character be asura is a must.

2. I don’t care about having a billion armour skins – there are enough currently in the game to have fun with.

Right now?

Stale.

A nice big deep skills balance patch would reinvigorate the game for me. Otherwise combat has become a little boring. I am tired of Chrono shatterspam, and the overwhelming superiority of certain traitlines. Ideally a big rejig of traits and skills providing equality between traitlines as well as core/elite specs would encourage me to play the game more.

Some cooldowns which could be less.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Curunen.8729

Curunen.8729

Ok nevermind incoming alacrity nerfs, there are a few skills for which cooldowns should really be lower if the skills themselves remain the same:

1. Arcane Thievery – 45-seconds makes no sense. Could be brought down to 30s.

2. Cry of Frustration – 25s would be ok if it did 1 stack torment per illusion baseline, but as it currently stands it is too high for the effect, especially when compared with Mind Wrack…

3. iMage – nothing can justify that 30s base cooldown.

4. Signet of Domination – doesn’t encourage much use of the active stun. Could be slightly lower.

5. Chaos Armour – 35s for this soon to be almost negligable aura is ridiculous. Needs drastic reduction or a complete overhaul of staff #4

6. Mirror Images – should be brought down to 40s in line with Decoy.

7. Mantra of Concentration – could be 20s to match Resolve and Distraction, to encourage use.

Some others which I’m not sure about are Illusion of Life and Chaos Storm, but they seem fine as they are.

Anything else missing, or am I mistaken about some of these?

Let’s see if I get this right… Guild Wars 2 players are wanted to get into game on 31 August 2017 and use demo accounts, spend hours in Path of Fire, just tot test PoF product.

Will I get payed? Will I get any rewards? Will I get anything for my time spent on testing your product or content?

From what I understand I get nothing from testing other virtual content. The demo account will be erased, and I won’t get any reward or attention from my time spent there, in that expansion. Why should I do that?! There is no fun in wasting valuable time that will be erased and forgotten later. Every second of life counts.

I am sorry, but like Benjamin Franklin said: “Time is money”. I shall not help you with my time unless you pay me.

I am speechless…………..

lol, it’s like “having fun with new stuff is a waste of time because I don’t get… payed”? xD

Offhand Axe mid range Power skills?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Curunen.8729

Curunen.8729

Would be nice if they just gave some love to Focus.

Focus is essentially an offhand Axe for us at this point, but two things make it awkward with Mirage:
1. Warden’s Feedback is in Inspiration which firstly is not the most synergistic line with Mirage, and not only that but it competes with Restorative Illusions.
2. Focus is very weak in any kind of pvp, especially untraited.

Regarding number 2, the sheer quantity of evades/blocks/stability/anticc skills and traits and other bullkitten being kittened out by every class makes Into the Void outdated. It’s a skill that has been eclipsed by HoT and previously it has gone neglected because with Chrono we have Shield which eclipsed most other offhands aside from Torch (which in itself is only really useful due to having stealth). But now Mirage is making it apparent how weak certain offhands are.

They slapped the ICD on Into the Void which at the time was good to give players more time to react, but now chances are it’s likely going to be passively countered by some bullkitten anyway.

Focus 4 needs serious reevaluation – ideally the curtain at least ought to destroy projectiles untraited and maybe even provide quickness/slow, or maybe the pull br unblockable (ok I might be getting carried away there xD).

And as for the iWarden – this guy ought to pulse some effect like protection to allies within the bubble. I kind of like the stationary aspect of it though, in terms of setting up and controlling the field tactically, as well as a shelter to hide from projectiles.

Anyway maybe those are not suitable but whatever the case Focus needs some attention as it could thematically be the ideal counterpart to Axe.

Though I would also welcome offhand axe as I wouldn’t say no to dual wield Astralarias!

So do you people have anything to say other than “ur bad lol” just because I disagree since I’ve played everything but sPvP without ever noticing you could do this?

That 5s difference between leap and (guaranteed) swap allowed for many creative plays in pvp, either the difference between life/death, superior positioning/kiting, or a guaranteed kill.

Now you’re encouraged to simply press 3→3 before the clone dies, which for a skill as blatantly telegraphed as ileap renders it almost completely useless, other than spawning a clone to shatter.

Change the imaginary/phantasmal axe sound effect!! less ticking please. Edit, for the record I like the actual mechanic of axe ambush, it is only the sound effect I don’t like. I’d like the mechanic of throwing imaginary axes and the visual effects to stay the same.

Put 3/4s evade on axe 2 and a 1/2s evade on the third chain of axe auto. Raise cooldown of axe 2 if necessary.

Fix axe 3 vertical pathing (needs to work like sword 3 swap).

Staff ambush – wider effect radius on the vortex, or have the effect also proc in a cone in front of the player (and clones).

Selecting targets

in PvP

Curunen.8729

Never had too much problem with nearest enemy and cycling next enemy – nearest enemy tends to prioritise players over AI in any case. I don’t often have to click select unless I’ve cycled to AI accidently and there’s a few petting zoos to cycle through.

But yeah, it’s something we just have to live with – the targeting system will always be kitten in my opinion.

Condi Shatter Mesmer, Why Inspiration?

in Mesmer

As has been said – without RI and Mender’s Purity you are susceptible to counter condi burst.

It’s a stupid either/or situation – either you take Inspiration and have no problem dealing with conditions, or you don’t and you have big problems with incoming conditions…

The offensive benefits of Domimation, Duelling or even Chaos (which IMO is pretty weak at the moment) are at a big loss to sustain from Inspiration.

I know its a age old suggestion now, even to where anet have actually said its something they consider, but wont confirm/deny it… But id seriously love to see an extra set or two of weapon skills in the future.
Im talking utility skill style choice with your weapon set. Im very happy at the current max amount available while fighting, but i feel anet could easily add depth to the system and give the players more choice within their own build.
Could increase the feeling of team synergy aswell with min/max building aswell… Having a few players pick full dps skills where a full time supports would have a set of 5 support abilities.
Would cull a hell of alot of complaints in my opinion.

Agreed.

I think they should be split in groups, so:
Skill #1 (auto) – a choice of two different auto attacks
Skills #2 and #3 – 2 additional options (so 4 skills you can mix and match)
Skills #4 and #5 – 2 additional options (longer cooldowns, choice of 2 out of 4 skills).

At least that would be a start, and allow grouping/splitting skills for MH/OH weapons sets as well as two handed sets.

The only thing mesmers have as an advantage is increased sustain through stealth IF they take PU.

If they don’t take PU then every other class does condi better than mesmer, especially since the MtD nerf and loss of clone death traits.

Once PU is nerfed and The Pledge is changed, this is a non-issue.

[BW2] Chronomancer Feedback Thread

in Mesmer

Posted by: Curunen.8729

Curunen.8729

Based on the feedback given so far, I’d like to make a couple notes about IR’s current state:

1. With DE and/or Chronophantasma, IR is still pretty strong. Maybe just as strong as it was before.
2. Without DE or Chronophantasma, IR is remarkably unreliable/weak.
3. The 2-illusion req actually makes it really hard to use in any situation where illusions die fast. Like the WvW zerg, or fighting on point in sPvP, or any PvE boss with regular aoe.
4. Consequentially, I’d say that IR as it is makes Chronophantasma is almost a required pick if you want IR to be worthwhile. This is, I think, both unintended and undesired. It is also, imo, undesirable, though clearly some of the posters here disagree.

  • Frankly, it makes sense that this would be the case. By nature, CP guarantees you’ll have an illusion up right after the shatter, which is exactly what you want with IR. Using DE rather than CP would require taking time to dodge (.75s) to get back up to 2 illusions after a shatter, which is in essence creating an ICD or resource cost (mirror images/decoy/phase retreat, perhaps) on the next shatter. Without that, though, IR’s 2-illusion requirement would be wayy too burdensome to be worthwhile. Improved Alacrity will outperform 90% of the time if we didn’t have DE or CP available.

4. Because of the above, I’d agree with the icd pushers, BUT: it really needs to start at a 1s icd, and get reevaluated after that. Clone generation from IR is already rate-limited by shatter cooldowns, we don’t need the icd to control how many clones you get. The icd is specifically to prevent too-rapid chain shattering, and 1s should do that. So start at 1s, reevaluate, and only raise it if absolutely necessary.

Yeah I completely agree with this.

Clone summon delay on ileap...

in Mesmer

Posted by: Curunen.8729

Curunen.8729

The swap is a stunbreak and can be used to undo a obv incoming cc. Therefore I’d rather like to let us swap immediately after the spawn of the clone, instead of having to wait for like a whole sec.

It’s no use if you can’t swap at all because the clone took too long to summon in the first place, or didn’t spawn because you dodged or something too soon when casting ileap/

Of course I’d rather leave swap alone, so ignore my suggestion on that – I just would like to see this clone summon delay removed so it spawns more quickly like it used to before the june patch.

Resistance Equivalent to Protection

in PvP

Posted by: Curunen.8729

Curunen.8729

The nerf should be to removing the kittening RNG from the boonstrip and condi application so players can intelligently control their and their opponent’s boons and condis. I like the idea of prioritizing damaging conditions and damage mitigation boons for removal. A priority list? Change resistance so it only affects damage related conditions and maybe if it’s up the condi clear would prioritize the movement impairing conditions so when resistance ends, condis can still do damage. This places more importance on the Expertise condi stat as it would precision for power classes. I feel this would significantly change the way condi bombs work and I think it would be more fun since it doesn’t hinge on the RNGods (not fun, this is never fun).

Agreed. Being able to prioritise removal of boons/conditions would be better for the game.

Nowhere near enough survivability compared to meta chrono and clones die too easily. Unable to contest a point for as much time as Chrono but also unable to reliably focus and burst targets to make up for it. Not sure what role it is intended to fulfil.

Inspiration not great with Mirage however because less frequent shattering (RI has less synergy). Would be nice to see a direct small heal on dodge trait, rather than just the regen from renewing oasis.

Cursor range indicator.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Curunen.8729

Curunen.8729

Optional checkbox of course, for those of us using fast-cast ground targeting.

Idea is to have a small number to the side of the cursor indicating the distance from the player the cursor is currently positioned at. Players will know the max range of their ground targeted skills, allowing for accurate placement (similar to green/red circles on normal ground targeting).

Not visible when holding right-click.

Distance given as in game units, so numbers from 0 up to 1500 or whatever the furthest ground targeted skill is (I don’t play all classes so not sure if it is 1200 or 1500 or something else).

When the cursor is out of range of any skill, no number is shown.

Reason for this suggestion: yes with practice you can easily guess what is out of range for a particular skill. However when close to the boundary it is easy to overstep and that mistake can be costly.

A further enhancement to this, which may or may not be possible is for the game to detect what ground targeted skills the character is using, and using the max range for those skills colour code the cursor for each boundary – 600, 900, 1200… whatever the boundaries may be.
And if the player is not using any ground targeted skills, it automatically disables this feature.

However in terms of weapon skills, I’ve always wanted mainhand Focus without question. Would be so awesome to have an elite spec based around crowd control and misdirection (not simply interrupt but denial, debuff, ragdolling (limited so as not to frustrate enemy players)) at the expense of burst damage.

Here we go – the amount of moaning will soon cause Anet to gut something of real importance.

Before crying doom and gloom, read the patch notes – the buffs are not going to break the game. It’s not like we’ve been given 10 stacks of torment per shatter or anything.

The “meta” (I hate that word) condi builds still used Sword over Scepter, so it’s understandable to see a buff or rather fixes to Scepter – it was (and to some extent still is) a clunky weapon to use.

Flow of Time should be reverted to 1s per illusion, following the double nerf of it from 1s to 0.75s and alacrity from 66 to 33%. This is hardly gamebreaking, and allows marginally better personal alacrity through shattering, though still nowhere near as powerful as when it was 66%.

The Wells kitten well needed some cooldown reductions, especially Precognition after they gutted it.

That’s it – there’s nothing else worth noting. Ok sure they didn’t stop CSplit from working with Elites – I hope they do do this and rebalance elites accordingly for core mesmer so it’s not OP with chrono.

But otherwise I fail to see the problem – nothing has significantly changed. This moaning is ridiculous.
