Missing Rune of The Traveler???

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

As said above, you actually need 7 runes to give 6/6 all the time. Worse the common rebreathers are unsalvageable, meaning you can’t extract the rune on them by salvaging.

I have suggested they get rid of the underwater helm and use the runes and stats from the normal head gear but I don’t see that happening any time soon.

This issue also applies to Agony Resist where there is no slot on any rebreather, so you lose 5 AR fighting under water. In this case it may be preferable to use 5 bits of ascended armor along with exotic head gear to save on costs.

They really should do away with the breathers imo. It’s just such an annoying system and confusing to some people. All they need to do is have an aqua breather slot specifically for a different skin for our helmet while under water. This way it still looks realistic and all those skins they created do not go to waste. Yet I don’t think they made too many skins but still…

you want a reason why not, beside the part where everything needs to be adjusted to fit on a tiny controller, this is why.
what GW2 needs to be able to use all the features:

what a controller has:

what a controller needs to pull this of:

i really can’t put it any easier…..

These days technology has come so far you can plug a mouse and keyboard INTO gaming consoles, funny enough you can ALSO plug controllers into a PC.

Besides that you CAN make games like this controller viable/friendly, FF14 is a good example and so was 11. Wake up and get out of the stone age already dude. :P

I think the problem here is that many people think or expect that ectos SHOULD be considered a high value item. Why is this I wonder? Is it because they were THE item for this in GW1? Perhaps people need to let go of that and realise that this is a different game and things have changed?

Lets face it, in THIS game Ectos are just “another” material just like the many of others that are needed for crafting. Perhaps it’s a change of view that people need here and a different way of looking at it?

All I can say is try a few different builds in WvW. If you do have all 8 classes you should be able to find 1 atleast you can do well with in WvW.

As for farming it does exist in this game, just not how people want it to is all. Farming by the old method of killing the same mobs in an area is not what they want but you can farm in other ways such as:

1 – Farm events.
2 – Farm Daily boss chests.
3 – Farm dungeons.
4 – Farm lvl 10 quest on alts (delete and remake) for bltc keys. this can be good cash if you get lucky. :P

Why have town cloth tonics?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If I had to guess, I would say the reason town clothes are tonics and not skins would be so that we do not have any FREE non combat looking skins available to us to wear into combat. No sonny, if you want that special ability you have to use gems see, you got to keep that world turning and money is what makes that big old world go round after all!

PS, with this post I am not meaning to be rude to anyone nor am I saying I am either for or against the current town clothes being tonics. I am merely being observant is all and trying to add a little bit of humour to that as well, sooo with that being said “relax, you’ll live longer”.

i totally understand the OP, for a feature patch that is supposed to resemble other MMOs big patchs, this is practically nothing.

What does other MMOs give?

Well I’m currently playing an old MMO that I came from to here because it has a lot of content. Something that this game is lacking in right now. Having said that I am not on Anets case about it, it will come in time. And the way this game is (pretty much free to play) there is no worry about not playing this as much or as often as I normally would. Having said all that I am still playing here and am watching what’s coming here. There really is NO NEED for people to play the “anet better do something big or special or they will lose players” game because really, the way this game is designed, it’s just not needed.

Before I joined my current guild (semi big – 2 week old with 300+ members) I would just roam around looking for trouble or find players to help rather than farm or any such boring thing. Now I do a bit of stuff with my guild, helping with map clears etc. I also am a bit of an achievement hunter I guess, all JP’s/Mini dungoens etc..

But yeah I don’t need gear treadmills or nonsence like that, legendary? No rush there it will come when it does.

Oh sometimes I like to go to Queensdale when bored, throw my commander icon up and annouce I’m doing a chest run where I take those who are interested (usually a good turn out) to the 7 chests in Queensdale. That’s always a fun time and a nice way to introduce new players to how friendly/helpful our community can be.

What i miss from gw1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

I also played GW1 so I know of what you are discussing here and comparing. The thing is it was needed in GW1 because there was no open world. They made the missions that way to put the Multiplayer aspect into the MMO part of it.

Here there is an open world so they really didn’t need to “force” it. You can go out, anywhere and find players and join in on working with them without the drama of needing to join groups or needing this or that class etc or whatever.

Yes dungeons here are pretty much GW2’s version of that as well as fractals too and then of course raids. Dungeons and Fractals as well as raids are believe it or not MEANT to be about the stories they bring. Sure people play them for the rewards mainly but there are the stories there and that’s what it’s meant to be about.

I certainly don’t think it’s a good idea or want future PS or living story to turn back into what GW1 was. It’s just not needed here. I however certainly am not against new dungeons, raids or fractals with new stories as I think that will of course add more to the game.

I think maybe you need to find a guild or group to adventure with and perhaps do dungeons and fractals for the STORY part perhaps? That is NO skipping the scenes, watch them, ENJOY them and get that immersion that you are seeking.

One thing I would like to say however. I did like the dungeon system better in GW1. That is you go in and clear out rooms one by one. None of this nancy garbage you do here “run past the mobs” “cheat this way” for faster clears! Perhaps anet could add a few more like this too!

I put aoe loot on my J key and reflexively tap J anytime something seems to be dying near me. I don’t have to see the bags to get them.

What planet do you come from that makes that even remotely comfortable to press that key with one hand on the mouse and the other using WASD?

mouse walk- makes it a piece of cake.
Since aoe loot was introduced I haven’t even been thinking about little sparkles/bags- nor do I have to stop to loot.
It works beautifully

I use “C” for the exact same effect. In time once a body falls you just hit C intuitively. Like someone said you don’t even bother to look for sparkles or loot anymore it’s just second nature to hit that key. It also saves other hassles while in big fights such as picking up warrior’s banners, and turrets if you are an engi who placed one and then picked it up right away again by accident and then have to wait for the cooldown (now THAT’S poor design).

Not so when facing multiples of them, you may dodge one or 2 but it will only be a splt second before more come in and how many times can you use your stun breaker and then have to wait for cooldown?

It’s not as simple as you make it sound to be.

Why you feel the need of Hex if it have the exactly same effect than confusion (in the case of the ones you showed), sure it would give more option for damage, but it seems only a new obstacle for a good class balance.

The thing is they dumbed the whole system down. They made it too simple to remove everything. In GW1 most builds you would only consider taking one or the other, hex or cond removal and you relied on your allies to help cover the other usually.

Build to do damage with one or the other as well as building to remove one or the other here (or even both if you wish to at the expense of another utility slot wasted) could do a lot for strats as well as having others have roles to help cover your weaknesses if you don’t build to remove yousrelf.

Perhaps Anet it’s time you give us more benefit of the doubt and not have so much stuff dumbed down? Changeable weapon skills would also be another good place to start!

Why cant we trade

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Reasons why:

1 – People would try to buy/sell to bypass the TP and it’s money sink that is done by the fees. So we would have 1 less money sink in the game which let’s face it is a HUGE one.

2 – People would scam others due to such a system. Yes you may say it’s the one persons fault for being fooled and not paying attention, but still it’s just too risky. I remember I was scammed in another game like this after playing for a solid 2 years and I should have known better. I knew all their tricks and knew not what to fall for. But at this time I was really tired (after being up all night) and wasn’t paying too much attention and bang I fell for it. It was nothing big either, it was really small and not really even worth the scammers account being at risk of being banned but he still did it anyway (probably a stolen account/gold seller).

That’s 2 reasons I am sure there are plenty more.

Dungeons not for casual fun?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Paulytnz.7619

I suspect those who quit doing dungeons fall into one of two catergories.

1: Those that find them too hard. I was sort of in this catergory myself the first few times I tried them. Most of these players are probably trying to do them in gear not suitable such as Magic find or full glass cannon. Sure DPS is great but you have to have some survivability as well. If no one does who will be left alive to res everyone?. So if you find it too tough try mixing your build/gear up a bit.

2: People who just find them plain boring after the first time through and who ususually don’t like grinding. I myself will probably stop after I have got the achievements for them all. I see no point in doing them. I don’t find the armours that appealing except maybe one set. Sure some people might say it’s good cash, well I play for fun and tbh I don’t find “rushing” the same content over and over and over just for some shinies fun at all. Especially when most just want to exploit, skip content or the other negative things I’ve seen when doing them on ocassion.

Well that’s my opinion, in my tired state of mind so I hope that perhaps sort of gives you some reasons why some people don’t like doing them lol.

Unless you guys have known this leader for a great deal of time and he has only just gone to playing like this for some certain reason I would say the whole thing sounds suspect.

It could be 1, he originally created the guild hoping for people to just join and donate stuff that he could use for himself. Thus goes into hiding so he does not have to deal with people asking questions or anything. Or 2 it could be the account owner has been hacked or sold the account or something.

Either way it sounds like a crappy deal for you and your friends. I would suggest as others have here and either found a new guild yourselves or look for a far better one.

I think I am going to stay well clear from doing this achieve until they put in a fix for it. Who knows some people may get banned here……

Sure you may not be making a bank or anything out of it by using this exploit but an exploit is an exploit and under the rules still at risk of a ban. I have delivered 3-4 apples so far too, the intended way. Guess I’m gonna have to wait.

No one is going to get banned over this. Bans only result when people abused an exploit in a way that hurts the game for others (which could include repeatedly advertising it or just using it over and over again). Even in the most controversial mass-suspensions, only a subset of those taking advantage of a loophole in the game mechanic were affected. The cutoff for karma weapons was, I think more than 50 forges (200 weapons) and for snowflake trinkets it as about 50 salvages.

I think it’s fine and perhaps even admirable for you to make a personal decision to avoid doing it, for whatever reasons you have. Still, let’s not exaggerate the situation.

I am not exactly exaggerating. For me it’s more of a “why take the risk?”.

If something is against the rules, yet even if the “exploit” or whatever you may want to call it seems justifiable (which I have seen people use as an excuse in map chat because the task is annoying/hard otherwise according to them) why take that risk?

Why give someone with the power to ban you a good reason or excuse to for whatever reason they may want to using this as the reason? I just wouldn’t. Also in other games I have seen people banned for similar things as this, so again why take the risk, it’s just not worth it.

Lastly for those of you who are like me and will do this task the intended way here are 2 tips:

1 – If you have done the story talk to the ringmaster after obtaining an apple. You will be able to glide from here to Hal within a very reasonable time frame.

2 – If you have not done the story yet there is another option. Use the tube near the WP near the apples and you will be shot through to the Skull near the Jades. From here you can glide SE safely to Hal.

I believe these 2 methods were the intended way to complete this achievement.

You can simply stay in Queensdale until you are strong enough to do the swamp area. All you need to do is complete a few events here and there and you should be leveled up in no time to be able to complete that whole map.

Do all of those vistas and poi’s as they all give nice exp. However if you do only manage to just scrape through this map. Before moving on to the second Human map you may want to take the advice of others above me. Go to each of the other race’s starting maps and complete them too before moving on.

I did this as well as all city maps for all of my alts and from memory by the time I hit the second map for the Human area I was more than high enough to complete it with no issues.

In fact I followed that same pattern for all of the other races maps. That is complete all the starter maps. Then complete all the second Tier maps for each race, third tier etc. Doing so keeps you above level for every map and makes them a breeze to do.

Good luck!

A couple of Combat Suggestions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Disclaimer: This thread does not touch on the Action Camera and I do not use it for the most part so please take that into account before offering feedback/suggestions for fixing my current issues by telling me to use the Action Camera. With that out of the way lets continue.

So I have been changing my game up some to try and better myself for PvP. There are a few options in the settings which can help a great deal here. Such as:

Ground Targeting to Instant

Basically this will instantly shoot off your Target skills wherever your cursor is at. No need to aim the skill aoe field or click the skill twice. This can be VERY helpful when combined with the next.

Snap Ground Targeting to current Target

This one will fire your targeting skills straight on to your target, excellent in a lot of cases and for a lot of skills. Like I said above, this combined with the above makes an awesome combo and the QOL goes right up.

So now we come to the reason I am posting this. Although these 2 options can help the game in a great deal, I think there is room for improvement and so I have an idea. I think this idea will help a great deal especially when you are in the heat of battle and every decision and action you take should work as you intend and not having to workaround the current annoyances of the current system. So with that out of the way, back to those two Settings Options and their current annoyances and my idea for a fix.

The Issues

One of the biggest problems here is that you may not want to cast the skill at the location of your cursor or even at your target if you have the Snap Ground Targeting to current option turned on as well. How it works at the moment is any Target skill you use will be used against your target if in range, if not in range it will be fired at your cursor and in some cases depending on the skill on you.

You can see the basic problems here, you don’t ALWAYS want to use skills on your target such as heal or cleanse skills. The only way around it is to drop your target and aim your cursor. Not exactly what you want to do in the heat of battle now is it? Before I move on to my fix for this there is another small issue here. That is there is no in range indicator below Target skills like there is for non Target skills. This needs to be addressed and added. So that I guess is my first suggestion.

The Fixs

1 – Add an In Range indicator on Targeting Skills.

2 – Now my fix for the other issue should fix all my issues with these 2 settings options I think, well I hope lol. So the idea is:

For weapon, utility and F skills we NEED a right click option for them ALL individually with options of where they will be used.

Example you right click on a skill and will have a few check box options as to where this skill will fire (everytime you use it). The options could be:

1 – Fire at my target.
2 – Fire at my cursor location.
3 – Use on myself.

I will now give some examples how this would help me (and I hope a lot of other people). My example will be for Engi since it is my main and class I am most familiar with. Add to that, that Engi’s have a lot of skills that cover a lot of roles this will just add to that as being a good example.

Example:

Lets say I have Ground Targeting set to Instant as well as Snap Ground to Target on. Now lets say that I have equipped in my utility bar, Rocket Boots, Flamethrower and Elixir Gun and Mortar for Elite.

For my Flamethrower I could choose which is more important for the fire wall skill, either my target for some extra damage and a way to make them move. Or I could set to my cursor so I could pin point an area. Lastly I could choose myself if I want to cast it on myself so I could then shoot skill 2 which would give me a Combo for might (Fire Field with Blast). Just here in this simple example you can see how I would have options and can choose which is best for me.

Elixir Gun

I could choose to fire skill 5 to hit myself for the heal and cond remove or at cursor location to drop a water field or to heal and remove cond in an aoe area.

Mortar Kit

Now this is a biggy, I would want skills 1-4 to either hit my target or where the cursor is at. Personally I would want the cursor if I think I need to lead my target or just the target if I am just too lazy lol. For skill 5 again this would be like elixir gun.

As you can see, with the current system I can’t mix and match any of this. I have to either choose to have the Target set to manual to be able to choose where to fire by leaving this option unchecked. I could turn on Fire at Target but then my heal Target skills are not going where they need to unless I drop target. Finally I can’t target myself unless again I drop target. Add to this mess you can’t see the range of the Target skills so in some cases if you are out of range you WASTE the skill by firing at your cursor location and then have to wait for the cooldown.

I hope all of that makes sense lol. Please add your support if you too face these issues or add any other ideas that you think that could also work or be better than my ideas here.

Cheers.

Your whole argument is flawed being that the skins on the TP were MADE by SOMEONE who had to go and play the WVW mode. The skins are not just magically there. People that buy them instead of making them are simply paying someone else to do the part they do not wish to. If people stop making legendries and selling them on the TP then people will be forced to do the WvW part themselves. So the buying method is not a guaranteed way that people can avoid the WvW aspect. We can never know when things that are currently on the TP will dry up or not.

It is perfectly logical for Anet to change the method of acquiring this item from badges to a reward track. After all either way still has you having to actually play the game mode for a length of time to earn the item. Also you now gain the bonus of using your badges for what anet intended them to be used more for – siege equipment and gear while you are earning your reward track. Badges are also need for other things too now such as guild upgrades etc. So really I look at this change as a well needed thing as it takes pressure off the badge farming and gives you a new way to earn it while you are also gathering the badges that you need for other things.

However changing the Gift of Exploration from actually exploring (completing every original map) to simply gaining exp in any way you see fit (events, crafting, gathering materials, using tomes, etc etc) and then just clicking the button to level up the mastery totally changes that whole aspect of the process.

Then on top of that you need more Mastery Points which lets face it can be a pain to get enough even right now for the reward tracks that are already in game. So all this will do is create another headache and problem for people who may already be finding it hard to unlock the Tyria Masteries.

I am one of these people. I have been here since the 3 day head start. In that time I have completed world complete 11 times, done all JPs, all dungeons, a fair share of Fractals, all classes/races through personal stories, LS2 and HOT as well as a great % of achievements. A lot more and I am still struggling right now to get the last few Mastery Points that I need. Mainly because they are tied behind silly things like unlocking skin collections but that is another rant for another day.

PS, there is another fact that I overlooked which is a pretty big one. That being that there are currently NO reward tracks for PVE. There are masteries yes, but they are a totally different thing as you can’t repeat them and they are account bound. How the heck would people be able to get more than one Gift of Exploration?

They would have to bring in a new system for PVE, that being Reward Tracks. This would only create more work for them. Also how would we earn exp towards these tacks? Our exp bar works for both Reward Tracks and Masteries? Talk about confusing. Granted I am all for new rewards for players once they have maxed out all their masteries but I’m just not sure this would be the way to go or how it could actually work without confusing people even further.

Anets way of saying “now everyone will want to include them!”

so you think people will Want rangers in dungeons / fractals / raids Because they can Heal?

Nope I think Anet think people will want them for raids however. The players will always find a way to do the opposite to what the devs want lol. So there is a good chance people may not even want them in raids. But that’s not to say that anet wont try and push it.

I was going to say something similar to what Just a a flesh wound said but saw he beat me to it. How can you be bored of the classes if you have not even reached cap lvl yet? O.O

I just find this statement strange and confusing. I have all classes to 80 and they all got there by doing their world completes which by the way you hit 80 about halfway through that within 2 weeks if you do just 1 map a day. Doing the maps gives you enough variety and new things to see/do so you really are not even bothering to worry about repetitive combat styles. Are you even levelling up this way or by doing events or are you simply trying to lvl up how other games do it (sit in 1 spot killing the same mobs over and over and over). Sorry but that just had to be asked….

Having said all that, even before you DO hit 80 there is tons of variety to each class. Each have multiple weapons (which in most classes you can switch in and out during combat for advantages and more mixing up!) they can use and builds through trait lines that you can mix up now and then. Personally on all of my alts I have ALL weapons that, that class can use stored in their inv in a special bag which will not let them sell them etc just so I can play around with all their options to mix it up and to see any effects any game updates have done to those skills. You could try doing this as well and trying all of their weps as well as build options.

One thing I can tell you is that I have pretty much stayed away from meta builds since day one and have pretty much noticed that I have about 99% of the time played my classes different to most other people. I can see it through what weps and skills they are using as well the differences in who stays alive longer or kills quicker etc. One last tip – STAY AWAY from those meta sites and then you wont have that issue of playing your char/class the same as most other people lol.

Anet say they do not want to support player to player trade. Want player to use TP. Can still trade to guild member use mail if you trust other person. But if deal go bad Anet will not return gold or item lost.

Also player to player trade will make more trade spam in chat. Already I see people break the rule and use LFG to try to trade. I can guess how bad map chat would be.

This ^^^^^^

The first few weeks of the game the TP had a lot of teething problems so we could not use it. The map chat wanting to buy/sell spam was VERY VERY VERY annoying to say the least.

Mind you we did not have the anti spam (mute after speaking too much) system in then I don’t think. But still, I don’t want to see trade spam, heck even the guild recruiting messages are bad enough all the time.

As for your Login screen options suggestion I DO support this 1000% and it should be considered 1 of the top priorities for Anet in the QOL category for future updates.

Controllers! I loathe playing games with a KB&M. Full on Hate!
The problem is closed minded debs who don’t want to detour from their “vision”.
They say stupid things like, “if you want a controller buy a console” ….
Newsflash, I have a console! Guess what? I play that when I’m home most of the time!
Though right now, I’m at work as a night audit at a hotel. TONS of downtime. I want to get out my laptop & controller and enjoy an MMO.
Or perhaps I’m at the girls house, and want to enjoy a hour or 2 of game time before I fall asleep. Have you never played on a laptop with a controller while you sit up in bed?
What it falls down to is a bunch of PC elitist who think if your not at a tweaked desktop your doing it wrong!
These guys are so closed minded they won’t even allow you to change the pointer to a crosshair… I guess people playing the game the way THEY would most enjoy would hurt their feelings… lol so sensitive!

Lol all I can say is I played FF14 the original release before the rebirth and it was amazing with a controller. For those devs who put the time into adding this feature it can be nothing but a nice bonus/option for some of their players. And heck who knows maybe some of us could say to some of our “console only gamer” friends “hey look you can use a controller on this pc game, give it a try!”

Make upgrades cost badges. Means people upgrading need to switch when out of badges.

That would make defending worse….. at least with cash you can make cash while playing in WvW. Badges are not so easily come by. You seriously want to kill off any chance of defending at all? O.O

Oh great, soloing that sea village event in Kessesx Hills was bad enough before this update as you were pulled around like a rag doll plenty and hp went down so fast. Now you say they are harder to fight?

I dunno but I’m starting to see that they are giving far too many mobs Knockdowns and pushbacks. Heck I did the Dredgehaunt Hills map on my Warrior 2 dys ago and I swear almost EVERY mob there had some form of a knockdown or pushback. I call this lazy design, seriously….

Another thing I find with this game is too many trash mobs have too many condition or stun type skills. I mean seriously why even bother slotting a condition removal when fighting that spider who is just going to poison or cripple you right after you remove 1 or the other. What’s the point? And you know theres another 3-4 spiders still ahead of you to get to where you are going thus why most people run through mobs…No one LIKES to be FORCED to fight mobs they don’t want to fight. On the other side of the coin we have farmers complaining they LIKE to kill everything in their path but get crap reward for it due to the DR. It’s like Anet likes to FORCE us to fight every chance they get but does not like to reward us for it, why? If this was a sub/monthly paid game I can understand because it means it slows the game down for us and keeps us paying longer but it’s not, I just don’t get it.

Actually what the OP is asking for could actually be BETTER than using transmute stones.

Why?

Currently we are LOCKED in to specific stat bonuses for armours. Example:

Berserker: Power/Precision/Critical Damage.

Now what if I wanted Power/Toughness/Vitality? Currently this does not exsist as far as I am aware. They would have to add another named set and add it to the crafting tables. If they instead added items that let us choose which 3 stats we want for late game armour I think this would be a better idea for giving us more variety in stats/builds.

What is the deal with wings?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Its because they are so cliche and badly done they look like ripped off bird wings taped on your back look out of place and everyone has them. When everyone has them they just are not as cool and again gemstore. The other wings u speak of at least look decent and I don’t see them as much as the lame angel demon wings. But whatever I’m enjoying my synergetic spinal blades still which I crafted so :p

Even if every person in this game had the wings they would still be “cool” to me and my char who uses them.

What’s with the gemstore reference? Ohhhh you are one of those people who buys/uses items for “status” and are trying to say something like “they are gemstore, no effort put in so they are not worth anything”. To that I would have to reply, each and every person who bought these gemstore items should be thanked just for that because it is them that is keeping this game alive!
