Did Anet foresee HoT price pandemic?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I honestly would not be surprised to discover that the current situation was not only foreseen but orchestrated as a means to implement a “premium” style rewards system similar to the Chinese client.

What better way to add something that you know would drive players away than to instigate a situation where many are literally demanding for something like it to now be added?

This practice has been used throughout history by businesses and governments alike to bring about conditions where, not only are the people no longer actively fighting against something being a certain way, they are actually demanding for it to become that way.

Basically:
Step 1: Make veterans feel like they are not as valued as new players buying the new game version
Step 2: Let the internet blow up over the created situation for 7-10 days
Step 3: Reveal that a “Veteran Appreciation Paths” system will be put in place to help show the veteran players that they are, indeed, valued by the company

  • “Veteran Appreciation Paths” adds paths that grant rewards based on different factors
  • “Cherished Supporter Path” has an incremental list (to get item 5 on the list you first need to buy enough gems to get 1-4) that includes items from a pool of time/RNG-gated gem store and in-game items, no longer available skins (tribal), unlocking NPC exclusive armor skins and outfits, discontinued gem store skins (bunny ears, molten/aetherblade weapon skins), and exclusive alternate versions of gem store skins (white wings)…mainly everything players have been begging for…that are awarded/unlocked for free based on the number of gems purchased with real world money over the life of the account – For those who support the game with real money
  • “Path to the Heart of GW2” path has an incremental list that includes a small pool of exclusive stuff as well as various always-available gem store items of medium to high value that are awarded/unlocked for free based on the number of achievement points earned on the account. Current achievement rewards are integrated into this reward path – For those that support the game through active gameplay.

Or something like that. Who knows. ANet only said that they will never add the premium reward thing that is in China’s client to the NA/EU version of the game. However, they never said anything about never adding any kind of premium reward…just that we will never see one identical to the one used in China. So technically they won’t be lying. Always pay heed to the way statements/promises are worded. In fact, this may have all been a scheme to justify adding one in due to some players now begging for something to show that being a veteran player and supporter of the game means something to ANet.

Who knows. I don’t consider there to be much of anything that can be seen as beneath a company any more when money is on the line.

Did not get consumed karma back?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I saw that the karma boosts no longer affect consumable karma, so I ‘chugged’ over 120 Drops of Liquid Karma and about 40 Jugs of Liquid Karma that I was saving up.

Then they released the retraction patch and statement.

I just now received a mail containing 10 Kegs of Liquid Karma, 1 Vial of Liquid Karma, and 2 Drops of Liquid Karma.

It is very odd. I did not consume any Kegs or Vials between when the limited consumable patch was live and the retraction patch. I did, however, consume much, much more in that time (as noted above).

I’m a little confused as to the logic they used in determining what was to be sent in these ‘replacement’ mails. I’m not asking for additional items to be sent, karma is pretty worthless still and I have over 2.7mil as it is, I’m just trying to understand how they came up with those three items based on what I actually did consume.

Why wasn't this stuff preloaded?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

StinVec.3621

I mean, yeah, you can load while playing, to a point, but when I got to Torn from the Sky it told me that I couldn’t play until that bit downloaded. Why wasn’t this stuff preloaded days ago?

Dataminers, most likely. They didn’t want anything to leak prior to release so it wasn’t available in the client until this patch.

Nerfed Champ Bags/Boxes ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Hello all, I looked into this because we intended to have a release note for the changes to the champion loot.
We did modify the gold and bloodstone dust coming from champion bags, and a release note will be added shortly.
What I can tell you is that we made a mistake, this one fell through the cracks and I’m truly sorry. I’ve promised before that we won’t make stealthy economic changes without notes and I mean to stick to that promise.
Thank you all for pointing out the error, we will be more vigilant in the future.
Good luck in your adventures.

Hi, John Smith. I just wanted to point out that it has been two days since your comment and, as of this comment, the addition to the release notes has not happened yet.

I see that the addition to the release notes of this missing change has been added:

“This note was inadvertently left out of the original notes

  • Adjusted coin and bloodstone dust drop chances in champion bags."

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-October-29-2013/3151720

However, this note is very ambiguous as to the type of change that was made. We all know it was a decrease in drop chance of ‘dust’ and coin amounts, but simply stating “adjusted” could be either increased or decreased. The note should clearly state that the amounts were decreased, not simply “adjusted”. Be clear with the ‘adjustment’ made and stand by this decision, don’t try to downplay it. If you make a change, state the change, leave ambiguous wording out of it. If you intend to inform, then inform. Be professional about it and you will be respected for it, even if the decision is not received well by many. Thank you.

Gaile, PoF forum section please?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I feel that a PoF forum section should have been added immediately before or right after the announcement due to the influx of questions, clarifications and discussions on content and changes it offers. One was not.

I think it would be in the interest of players (and for your and other moderators’ sanity) to keep all released and upcoming information and questions regarding the next expansion in one area so as to prevent this flood in the general discussion forum of many of the same PoF topics. If they are in one area then information can be pinned and questions more easily seen and answered without wading through regular non-PoF threads.

Is it possible that a PoF forum could be added above the HoT forum please? If so, might it be added sooner rather than later? Thank you.

Does lore matter?

in Lore

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

What if: Instead of Scarlet appearing for 5 seconds and monologue-ing at the end of the fractal we were escorted through the instance by a young Sylvari called Ceara. Fresh out of the academy we and Ceara battle through the facility to get her to the core, that she explains she has the knowledge to prevent from going supernova.

She helps us with tips for the puzzles, and explains why a Sylvari is in a place you’d expect only to have Asura (actually get some of that short story in to the game).

You battle the anomaly with Ceara’s help. She explains that the facility was built too close to magic laylines, and future facilities should be built as far away as possible.

You bid the helpful Sylvari farewell, and are able to talk to her after the rest of the party leaves for some backstory/foreshadowing.

That is quite an impressive, quickly constructed, and well-thought out idea. Very nice.

An option to disable right click targeting

in Suggestions

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Our development team reviews play input on a regular basis. They are aware of this suggestion, but have not yet reached a decision on what changes, if any, they will make to targeting.

There is a lot going on right now with the upcoming event, but after that, the team will take a look at a lot of different game elements, and may make some changes in the future.

Sorry I don’t have more specific information, but you can be sure this is not being ignored or rejected without due consideration.

Thanks for understanding.

6 months…really? Will it be another 6 months of more silence on this mind-bogglingly easy to fix issue? It has easily been that long since anyone has responded in the Bug Forum version of this thread as well. If this isn’t a clear message of how much worth the voices of players carries, I don’t know what is.

I have played daily since launch, and I’ve done my best to still enjoy this game despite so many underwhelming and wholly disappointing aspects of ‘adjustments’ done to the game and lack of purchasable content offerings. I hope this is fixed within the next month, that’s about all I have left in me to continue dealing with this issue.
sigh ….please, ArenaNet…I fear for this game making it through summer intact.

CDI- Character Progression-Horizontal

in CDI

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Some of my suggestions from the past:

Pro Re-skinning
First I would like to state that I am not only completely fine with having alternate versions of cultural armor (or any armor), I actually encourage more alternate variations to be released that have different elements removed or added. Options for appearances are crucial to myself any many other players to fully enjoy this game. Ideally I would prefer the alternate appearances and elements of armors to be able to be toggled off and on to selectively hide certain elements as well as being fully dyeable. I do not see offering alternate forms of existing armors (re-skinning) as being lazy, but as a way to offer us, the players, with many more options to achieve the look we desire within existing armor designs. I fully understand what goes into designing an entirely new armor set in this game and I do not mind the long time it can take when creating them, but take your time and do them right to justify the gem cost (non-human character elements fully considered; charr horns/tail, asura ears/toes). While new designs are being created, offer us more variations of existing designs and a way to customize elements of them so they are not simply cookie-cutter static designs.

Anti-Cultural Armor
I’m actually against the concept of cultural armor as armor designs should have already been culturally designed from the start. An armor worn on a charr should not have the same appearance as that armor on a human only stretched out to fit their non-human body. I’m not saying that every single armor in the game should have a uniquely designed appearance based on the species/gender wearing it, that would take forever to design. However, that human armor could easily have slight tweaks made to it to make it appear more like what a charr would actually wear; remove the sleeves and show off those powerful furry arms, remove the backs of the legs so they’re more like covers/chaps and not form-fitting and fur-constricting pants. Give each piece of an armor design (base human most likely) one hour of attention and it can be made more appropriate for non-human species, thus removing the need for “cultural” armor and allowing all armor for that species to be appropriate for them.

Pro-Class Armor
I am, however, completely for armor designs that are restricted to only being available to each class through their class trainers. In their current form, having an individual trainer for each class serves absolutely no purpose. Players do not learn new skills from these trainers and the trait manuals are completely generic in that any class can use each manual tier regardless of where it was acquired (TP/a manual my thief got from their trainer can be used by my mesmer). Class trainers also do not even offer a unique service of resetting traits. There are ‘Trait Reset’ NPCs whose only purpose is to reset traits regardless of your class. And with the new single-use trait reset items, one does not have to even visit an NPC to reset their traits.

Trading Post totally kittened right now

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Based on TP issues like this in the past, expect:

  • All items you listed to be properly listed once the issues are resolved.
  • The coin from all items you’ve sold while the TP was having issues to be properly delivered to your pick-up tab once the issues are resolved.
  • All items you attempted to purchase to be delivered once the issues are resolved.
    • Yes, every single click on ‘Buy’ is counted (unless they stopped this from happening when the TP has issues) and you can expect a delivery tab full of items if you kept clicking. Re-list the excess items once the problems are gone to attempt to recoup the coins spent on most of the unintended purchases.

As a note, it may take some time for your buying/selling/pick-up tabs to update once the issues are resolved, so do not be surprised to find it take some minutes or hours to properly catch up and populate those tabs.

The statement said they’d go into more detail on the feature pack and the changes coming with it and they did; the blog posts on the feature pack were made and all of the discussions and changes that followed as well. The statement said nothing about going into details on LS: Season 2 or what new stuff might come later in the year, only about going into detail on the changes coming with the feature pack after LS: Season 1 finished up.

How or where to post suggestions?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Suggestions go in the most appropriate sub-forum that your suggestion is relevant to.
An item for the gem store? > BLTC Discussion sub-forum.
Something about a dungeon? > Dungeons sub-forum.
etc.
If you can’t find a really good fit, post it to the General Discussion sub-forum.

Might like to include [Suggestion] or [Sug] in your thread title. It isn’t required, but it does help to let ANet (and other people around here) know that it is a suggestion thread.

Do you tend to go on a hunt?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’d like something I could track down and best in combat. Otherwise I hunt Sons of Svanir.

Sort of like the unrealized potential of hunting down and fighting Modus Sceleris? I wish Anet would expand on their concept a bit more and spread them out over all of Tyria. Could be great if little clues popped up that led you on a trail of clues to hunt down the members and fight them.

They could be a true trophy that is worthy of being hunted…especially if they dropped named items to show you bested them.

Need a way to report emote spammers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I’ve always hated having to manually add them to contacts to then block them. At least now blocking also hides their emotes instead of their being able to spam away or even chat in emotes knowing they couldn’t be blocked.

I usually try to taunt them into saying something in chat so I could block them easier than typing their name out in contacts. Usually a simple “Hey, blahblah” is enough to get them to stop and say “Yeah?” so I can block them quickly.

Interactive names in emotes is long overdue though.

Please tell me this is some sort of mistake

in Living World

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Seeing as you stated she has not played for a while (“just recently got back into Guild Wars 2”), perhaps she has the unlocking of the current chapter still queued up in her account pending tasks.

As the pending tasks are tied to the trading post Pick Up tab, having a lot there to pick up could delay the unlocking of the current chapter’s place in the pending task queue.

Have your friend ensure that they empty out anything in their Pick Up tab in the BLTP interface. Doing so should trigger the green star icon (usually above/below the mini-map where daily chests/hearts pop up) to notify of the chapter becoming unlocked for them.

New to gw2 advice?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Welcome to Tyria!

I would also like to strongly recommend browsing this thread from the ‘Players Helping Players’ sub-forum as you find time. There are plenty of helpful tips and quite a bit of general information on the game found in it. Some of the info in the first post is a bit outdated and does not reflect the changes that have happened to the game over time, but it is all good food for thought.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players

It is mentioned in that thread, but take note that you can always wiki anything at all in the game by typing this in your chat box: /wiki blah blah
Of course, ‘blah blah’ would be what you are interested in learning about. It will open your web browser to the wiki and auto-search for what you entered for it to search for in the chat box.

Also, you can shift+left click items to link them in chat. Combining the /wiki and linking items is a real quick way to search for info on a particular item.

Have fun!

Restore Deleted Store Items

in Suggestions

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Personally, I believe most Gem Store items should be Account Unlocks and always should have been. And with Achievement Skins now being presented to us as account unlocks of unlimited supply for withdrawal, it seems even less sensible for Gem Store skins to not also take on this behavior.

Obviously not all gem store purchases should be infinite supply, but any armor/weapon skins, towns clothes, or specialty items like flutes should be unlocked for your account. Perhaps the gem store skin/item unlocks could be added into the Achievements Account Unlocks area just as the Achievement Skin unlocks are, or even to the Hall of Monuments Account Heritage Unlock Vendor.

Bloody Prince's armor

It’s hard to tell what the functionality of the item is from just a screen shot, so I’m here to clarify. This screen shot actually shows the Bloody Prince Thorn costume and not an armor skin, so it is not usable in combat.

That is nice to hear that his appearance will be available as a Towns Clothes costume, but would you pass word along to the armor designers that this style of armor is highly desired by players (especially for necromancer players), and it would be very, very nice to see future armor designs made available that are similar in appearance to this, please?

Mouse Cursor: An option to change color?

Many people use YoloMouse to resolve the cursor visibility issue. Can also add custom cursors instead of the included ones.

Silmar Alech.4305 has a good video showing their custom cursors that are modified versions of the in-game cursors.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Mouse-Pointer/4480667

Personally, I prefer to use other custom cursors. There are many cursors that are readily available online and free that you can search for and use if you prefer different ones that fit your taste better.

Um…apparently the OP deleted their somewhat long and well-written post asking about options for enhancing cursor visibility.

Kite Baskets Issue + Charged Quartz Issue

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Kite Baskets Issue

  • Kite Baskets in the open world can be interacted with the first time and you are presented two bags on the ground that you can interact with which grant quartz, etc.
Issue: After the Kite Basket respawns you can interact with it again but are presented only two empty bags on the ground. If this is intended behavior to prevent farming the Kite Baskets, you should simply be unable to interact with the Kite Basket until it will present you with bags that will present an award. As it is now, a player interacting with a Kite Basket that will grant no award to them (as they’ve already interacted with this basket recently) also removes the basket from the map for everyone else as it has now been opened. Even though the non-awarding basket for one player leaves the awarding bags on the ground in the world for another player, these are only temporarily there, and other players no longer have the Kite Basket location marked on their map to see where these bags are to get to them before they despawn. Being able to interact with a Kite Basket that will grant no award for a player should not be permitted. Simply prevent interaction by a player who has already gotten their award from that Kite Basket, or allow the award to be gotten each time the Kite Basket respawns. If each Kite Basket only gives an award once per day, per account (or something), at least give the baskets that we’ve gotten and will now not grant an award a different icon on the map so we know which we’ve gotten already and which will still grant an award, please.

Please tell me if HoT is worth $50...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I agree with you, OP, and Ardenwolfe. For what it is shown to include, $15-20 USD is about the most it is worth to me as there is not a whole lot that would interest me planned to be included with it.

I, too, do not take part in the guild aspect of the game, nor wvw, nor pvp. I enjoy exploring expansive, gimmick-free open world zones with many characters of different races and professions after having equipped them and designed their appearances as I desired – exactly what the base game offered and provided. The “expansion” does not look to offer any new playable races, or even offer more expansive, gimmick-free open world zones. It only appears to offer an interesting profession that may or may not be enjoyable. Couple this new profession with the recently announced “changes” to existing professions, and it leaves me completely questioning if I should consider spending time learning a new profession, let alone it also causing me to question if I really want to spend time relearning all of the existing professions, reacquiring many skills I currently have that are being taken away, and re-equipping and re-outfitting every single one of my many characters to function and appear as I have them currently…all to be able to enjoy playing in the same open world areas that I have been for nearly 3 years. No, $50 does not seem to be a justifiable price in my mind for what it is being shown to include, especially when looked at from the point of view that the additional, negative changes being made to the base game discourage me from continuing on with the existing content and longer.

New TP Sell Interface Confusing

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Just a few of the downgrades off the top of my head:

  • Horrible fonts, font sizes and font color/page colors creating a lack of contrast of the majority of the information on the item pages (and the amount in the corner of the item icons)
  • Very illogical and inconvenient element and function organization
  • Important information crowded with unnecessary text causing readability issues
  • Very limited number of listings displayed on the sell/buy screen
  • Missing ‘Refresh’ button for listing prices
  • Missing ‘Projected Return After Sale’ not being displayed any more (the most important piece of information to a seller trying to list an item)
  • Closing the confirmation popup after a successful listing of an item causes listings page for the item you were selling to disappear and have to go all the way back around to get to the item page for the item you just listed
  • Cannot add to existing listings
  • Issues of prices and amounts of items I’m selling or buying not updating without closing and reopening the TP and going all the way back to the buying/selling page
  • Limited number of results returned in your current buy/sell order screens – unable to see all of your current orders/listings
  • Required clicks to perform simple actions multiplied several times over those previously needed in the old version

I dislike the new interface so much that I will actively avoid accessing it and will rather vend/salvage everything to avoid using it.

Even then, instead of selling mats and items constantly throughout each play session, I will instead now wait until a full stack builds in material storage before listing it. I’ll also be listing the stacks far below their actual worth to guarantee the items sell after only listing them once to lessen the number of times I will need to use this new and horrible design.

As bad as the old TP was (and how I didn’t think it could actually be worse) I’d happily take the old one over this new one.

Selling Eternity question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

If your Sunrise is bound and you use it in the crafting of an Eternity then the end product will not be bound and it can be sold.

If you also bind Twilight to unlock that skin, the end product Eternity will still be unbound and sellable.

However, unless you bind the Eternity, you will not have the Eternity skin.

Basically:

  • Sunrise is bound, skin is unlocked
  • Craft Twilight and bind it to unlock its skin and advance your legendary achievement (though using it in the forge to make Eternity automatically unlocks Twilight’s skin, it will not advance your legendary collector achievement and it must be equipped to do that)
  • Then you can use both the bound Sunrise and bound Twilight to make a sellable Eternity. However, to unlock Eternity’s skin you must bind it to your account instead of selling it.

thought I was immune to the allure of tools

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I may have gotten this but 800 gems is far too much for this kind of content. That’s like a monthly subscription and I don’t think that’s worth a month in subscription fees.

What you said is completely contradictory. If you bought it, it’s priced correctly. That’s how supply and demand works.

They didn’t say that they bought it, they said that they may have been interested in buying it had it not been as expensive as it is, that had it been less expensive they’d have probably picked one up.

That is also in line with my feelings on the subject of Infinite Gathering Tools; I don’t mind “Soulbound on Use”, but at 800 Gems each…thanks, but no thanks. If they were 200 Gems each I’d be buying dozens of them. At 800 I won’t even be buying one.

Again, ArenaNet…people are more willing to make many smaller amount purchases over a single larger one, even if it ends up costing more in the long run. At 200 Gems each, I’d happily spend 6000 gems to outfit 10 characters with a single set of Infinite Gathering Tools, instead I’m spending no gems.

I’d also have no problem with buying additional versions of the infinite tools on each of those 10 characters when they are released or made available. I’d swap out to whichever I felt like using at the time. So also buying each variation of each Infinite Gathering Tool across 10 characters would really add up.

Infinite Gathering Tools
10 Characters
3 Infinite Tools Each
3 Variations of Each Tool (when made available)
18,000 – # of Gems I’d spend @ 200 Gems per tool
22,500 – # of Gems I’d spend @ 250 Gems per tool
ZERO – # of Gems I’ve spent and will ever spend on Infinite Tools that cost 800 Gems Each

And that’s just on Infinite Gathering Tools and not even getting into what would have been spent on pieces from a single set of Gem Armor had armor pieces been sold individually in the gem store instead of as full sets.

99% of marketing is psychology.

"Fixed" Monk Outfit - Updated July 28th

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I was against buying outfits for so long, but I finally gave in and bought the monk outfit (gold to gems) as it brought back so many fond memories of GW1. I was happy with it and it looked great – I did not noticed any clipping issues on my characters.

Then it was ‘fixed’ and turned into what we have now.

I was no longer happy with my purchase as the new style no longer reminded me of the appearance of my characters from GW1.

I sent my refund request in this afternoon.
I was awarded a refund in 27 minutes from my initial sending of my request.

One thing I must say, I’ve always had extremely wonderful dealings with support save for a single instance the first week of the game launching, though I do not fault support for that situation.

Anyway, this is how I explained the issue in my initial refund request:

Greetings. I recently purchased the “Monk Outfit” from the gem store and I was very happy with my purchase. However, shortly afterward there was an update to ‘fix’ some clipping issues that others were experiencing. Upon fixing these clipping issues, the appearance of the outfit was altered to be that of one I do not like and would not have purchased.

If I may be considered for a refund of the 700 gems I spent purchasing this item, I would be very grateful. I do not like that the item was changed after I purchased it to have such a different appearance.

Thank you very much.

If others find it a useful description of their experience and why they are seeking a refund, feel free to use my description of the situation as yours in your request.

Why does ArenaNet Glorify Lion's Arch?

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I do not go to Lion’s Arch if I can help it. It isn’t even a visually pleasing place to experience. To me the entire area is a last minute, poorly designed, piecemeal collection of subpar and discarded landscape, model and conversation samples that offers nothing but an ugly, crowded, lagged out time sink to load into, travel about in, and then get out of. I was very pleased that this most recent living story release did not involve having to go to Lion’s Arch beyond one occasion of being forced to for the sake of traveling to Labyrinthine for the first time to unlock the waypoint there.

My world revolves around Divinity’s Reach. It is a gorgeous, beautifully designed, multi-level, grand-scale city with thousands of personalities and stories roaming its streets. Divinity’s Reach encompasses all of the pleasing elements of the game as to be the very heart of Guild Wars 2 to me. It is my hub in Tyria, my home, not LA.

I am more than willing to spend the extra silver or two to waypoint directly to another major city and then kill a few things to get the coin back, than to travel through Lion’s Arch just to avoid that fee with a free gate use. But that free gate isn’t free, it does have a cost. Oh, does it have a cost. What I save in coin, I spend a multiple of in time wasted.

The time spent sitting at the loading screen just to get into Lion’s Arch, and then being presented with almost nothing loaded up when I spawn into LA (what was it loading?), so I then have to wait for textures to load up enough to be able to see where I am going as to not walk off a cliff just to take a free gate ride to another city… In that amount of time I can easily just kill a few things and make two or three times the small cost of using a waypoint to bypass LA entirely.

I refer to LA as Jita…anyone who has played EVE will know what I mean by that.

There is literally nothing in, around, or about LA that is worth my actually going to it or through it.

What happened to Kessex Hills?

::please, please, please let this turn out to be the release of the largos as the new playable race in an upcoming LS update::

“The largos are an aquatic race of assassins from the deep oceans of the far north and the Unending Ocean.”

“The ocean depths of their origin have unknown ‘horrors’ which caused them to leave.”

“The Unending Ocean, also known as the Great Sea and the Clashing Seas, is the giant body of water that separates the continents of Tyria and Elona from the continent of Cantha. Over a thousand years ago, the Margonites ruled these waters until they lost their humanity. Until about 50 years ago, the krait lived on the ocean floor before they were pushed out by an “underwater dragon."

My pulse is actually racing right now from my excitement just from the thought of this as being a possibility.

Also of interest:
“The Inquest have captured a dragon minion and are preparing a water-themed area called “Zone Blue” in the “Infinite Coil Reactor” for it to be stored."

Instant One-Up Bids

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

The best way I’ve found to counteract the bots that up their bids on dozens/hundreds of items en masse like clockwork is to force them into their cooldown.

First thing to do is to determine the bot’s maximum price point by steadily increasing your bid until they hit their limit and remove their bid from the item.

Once this max range is determined, you can then choose one of two courses of action:

1) You can accept the higher price point that is above the bot’s max bid range, which is still less than buying it outright. You’re basically paying much more than you should have to just so you do not have to deal with them. It’s not ideal, but at least you do not have to babysit your order and deal with these bots.

2) Force the bot into a cooldown period (or a “time out”) where they’ll pull their bids from an item for a period of time due to the buy price going over their max limit:

  • Place your bid 1 copper above the bots current (low) bid, which will quickly be outbid
  • Leave that bid there and make an additional bid much higher, but still slightly lower than their max price point
  • This will cause their low bid to get removed and placed instead above your really high bid
  • Remove that high bid and make a bid above their max price limit
  • Their next update will cause them to remove their high bid due to being unable to outbid you as your bid is over the limit and will then go on cooldown for some time before it will become active on the item again
  • Remove your really high bid and leave your actual low bid up to get filled.

In my testing, this can buy anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour (depending on the bot) of not having to deal with their constantly outbidding you.

As an example:
I recently outfitted my new necro with level 39 rare berserker armor and immediately found that most of the items were being targeted by a bot ordering the same quantity of 5. I chose to use this method to get the armor pieces with minimal babysitting due to successfully causing them to time out.

Let’s use just the chest for this example:
- Lowest sell price was about 80 silver
- Highest buy price was about 25 silver
- I constantly increased my bid by 1-5 silver until I determined the bot’s maximum price to be about 55 silver

  • I set my desired buy order for one at 26s
    • Was quickly outbid by the bot at 26s1c
  • Left my 26s buy order up and set a buy order for 50s
    • Was quickly outbid with 50s1c
The bot’s lower 26s1c order was also removed simultaneously.
(I’ve found this step to be crucial due to it forcing their 50s1c bid to be the only one they have on the item)
  • I then set a buy order for 55s and canceled my 50s bid
    • The next bot update cycle removed their 50s1c bid and caused it to go on cooldown due to the highest buy order being over their max price
  • I then removed the 55s buy order and waited for my 26s buy order to get filled, free of the bot annoyance

I did this for all of the armor pieces at the same time. Some of the items were filled before the bot was reactivated on them, some others I was not so lucky with getting filled quickly. On these particular items on the bot’s list, it returned after exactly 30 minutes from forcing them to go on cooldown. I then had to repeat this method of forcing them away from the items I wanted once again. Like clockwork, exactly every 30 minutes they would return.

You can speed up the process as well by completely skipping the 50s step and going straight for the out of range bid of 55s. I just found the 50s step helped with verifying that the bot was still active before I made my 55s bid.

The cooldown isn’t the same for each bot out there. Some are only on cooldown for exactly 15 minutes, others for exactly an hour. Just as the cooldowns vary from bot to bot, the bid update frequencies are not all identical. Some bots update their bids and simultaneously remove their old ones on hundreds of items every 30 seconds, others are set to do it every 1 minute or every 5 minutes on the dot.

They get pretty predictable though. Once you learn their telltale signs you can easily tell the difference between another actual player placing a bid because they want the item and a bot placing a bid.

Anytime I go shopping for a rare or exotic item I expect to encounter at least one bot. When the rare or exotic items I’m shopping for are above level 67 (the level at which ectos start dropping from them), I can expect to battle against at least half a dozen. Unfortunately, those items are also having real players bid on them. Due to this, the cooldown method doesn’t really work that well as you still need to babysit your orders and constantly update them due to being outbid by real people who are also babysitting their orders.

Can no longer preview transmuted gear

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Same thing here but i have a question transmuted my level 80 gear im still level 75 when i equip it will it look like the transmuted item?

If you transmute the appearance of a lvl 80 item onto the stats of a lower level item then it will be the appearance of the 80 with the stats of the lower level item.

The main topic of this thread has also been reported several times and has been acknowledged by devs and is being tracked to be corrected.

I didnt clarify what i ment to say is i transmuted 2 level 80 coats but since im still not 80 i cant equip it i can only see the preview which is from the other armor not the one i wanted to transmute when i equip it when i get to level 80 will it have the transmuted look? Thnx for the reply

Oh! They absolutely will have the transmuted look when you are able to equip them as long as you selected the appearance you desired. This bug is only affecting what is displayed on the character in the preview window when attempting to preview transmuted armor. It will appear as the proper transmuted appearance when equipped.

We must accept the colors that they offer them in and buy/use it, or be deterred from buying/using it due to its restrictive nature.

At first I thought this was going to be an unbiased thread given the title and that it was created by a dev. As the OP of this thread shows, it is actually a dev-created thread to promote Evon Gnashblade…which confuses me as there is not a comparable dev-created pro-Kiel thread.

That Abaddon guy and why his fall matters

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I did not request it to be made into only solo content. I requested that it be made solo-friendly. You can have your group content as well. If I found dungeons to be fun in this game I’d be doing them…I love dungeons in many MMOS, but they’re terrible in GW2, in my opinion. I just request that this lore related content should also be just as available to those not interested in sharing their adventures and experiences with other people as to those who enjoy group content.

… but pretty much -everything- is lore-related content. If I run CoF I’m seeing the lore of the Flame Legion, etc etc. They can’t make a single player version of everything they make, and how else would they make lore-related content solo friendly?

Not to mention that if they somehow did add solo content as well you’d still have other group content you’d miss out on, so you’d always have lore related content you’re missing?

I think that if you’re “not interested in sharing adventures… with other people” you might be playing games in the wrong genre and can’t really complain when parts of the game aren’t accessible to you.

Arbitrarily applying the rule to yourself that you won’t play with other people means you miss out on content, unless you’re willing to solo it all. I saw a video the other day of a thief soloing fractals – if you don’t want to play with people then that option is always open to you.

Your thinly veiled statement of opinion is actually a personal attack. I will only ask this once. Stop attacking me. I’ve stated my request just as many others have, that fractals (and even dungeons for that matter) scale down for the number of people in the party, even if that party is one person. You have now delved into attacking my views and reasons for playing this game and are now telling me to go play another game. No, I will not. Cease your attacks.

StinVec.3621

“Ads by DNS Unlocker” (as you can see at the bottom of the pop-up) is adware that your computer is infected with.

If it was installed as part of bundled software that you intentionally installed, though didn’t realize it would install this additional adware, then it should be listed in your add/remove programs software list where you can uninstall it. If it was installed maliciously as part of a virus, spyware or malware infection, you’ll need to clean your computer more thoroughly than simply uninstalling it.

Immediately clean your computer!

  • First check if “DNS Unlocker” has an uninstall listing in your computer’s add/remove programs list. If so, proceed to uninstall it.

Further cleaning that is recommended:

  • Check your web browser(s) for any installed extensions that are adware, like DNS Unlocker is, and remove the extension(s) from your web browser(s)
  • Run a full scan with your anti-virus program
  • Download, install and run an AdWare removal program, such as AdwCleaner, AdAware, SpyBot
  • Follow that up with downloading, installing and running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Usually, if one virus has found its way onto your computer, there are sure to be more. Depending on what viruses or malware are found, after cleaning your computer thoroughly, you may want to change your passwords for your email and various login accounts. Do not change them prior to cleaning or your new passwords will likely be compromised and you would need to do it all over again.
