If you had written “That’s not the way math works in elementary school.”, then I could agree with you because that would be true. Unfortunately I’m not in elementary school anymore and have learnt that I can define things.

Actually that is your definition. Someone else might for example define optimal as the fastest completion time or most fun.

This is still relative to each player. In athletics the phrase “personal best” is often used. Your point seems hollow.

Could you define hollow?

While I understand your meaning, I’d actually be more inclined to do it with a developer for the ensuing comedy. xD

Yeah, and upon retrospect, whenever I throw on my dev tag for a dungeon, people tend to show me exploits and point them out >.<
However I have been thoroughly amused at times. I tend to hide my dev tags when finding a PUG, and then halfway through the dungeon I will tag up, and watch everyone leave the instance within minutes.

Reminds me of wearing transmuted “Worn Chain”-gear in Arah and then swapping to real ones after Lupicus. I haven’t been able to make them leave though but I have got kicked plenty of times, usually before the first boss.

It looks to me as though the only people complaining about the removal of instance ownership are path sellers and people who are disrespectful to other group members. Sounds like it’s working as intended.

It definitely isn’t disrespectful to completely ignore my LFG message and join my group when not fitting what was politely and clearly asked. And it definitely isn’t disrespectful to call me idiot and toxic when I politely ask to join another group without any requirements.

Not to mention that it definitely isn’t disrespectful to join mid-run and kick everyone out with help of a definitely not disrespectful friend.

So is he always poppable in AC, just with a random location? Or is it RNG if he shows at all? Seems like I never get to see him anymore, but it might just be because I’m not walking down the right passages…

I believe he is. There are at least 7 spots on story.

  • “Spider Queen” room
  • Two spots after the corridor (left and right)
  • Room with Master Nente (behind stairs I think)
  • At bridge after “Kholer” when going to ACP2 spike traps event or ACP3 burrows
  • In the area before ACP3 burrows and ACP2 spike traps event
  • In the same area as above but opposite side (bonus burrow event on story)

Rebalancing the Scale-down Feature

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wethospu.6437

Wethospu.6437

As quick fixes, I would:

1) Reduce downscaled level by one (now you downscale to level 26 in level 25 areas)

2) Increase multiplier for stat downscaling (so you would end up with less stats, to balance traits and triple stat from gear).

3) Revert trait decision (give us more trait points, etc while leveling up)

For goodness sake, stop with these puzzle suggestions, if you want to scare off what’s left of your dedicated fractal community, just throw in a bunch of obnoxious puzzles like all of the terrible suggestions in this thread and watch how nobody can be kitten d to do FOTM anymore because it will end up as Aetherpath 2.0 where it’s not worth the tedium.

For goodness sake be more constructive?
Also, the entire fractal community is doing a puzzle fractal as it’s first fractal constantly so I really don’t see the problem.
Yes, Swamp is a puzzle fractal, hate to break it to you.

Thats not the reason they do it though. Noone enjoys do the wisp puzzle. None of the pure invironmental puzzles are fun after doing them once. Puzzles arent replayable or repeatable. And even if you somehow make them randomly generated they will still eventually become boring because theres only so many iterations that can be generated. Fractals is a place where people go for difficult combat in pve. If you want environmental puzzles you should be doing jumping puzzles and guild puzzles not fractals.

I enjoy the heck out of the wisps puzzle, and not just because it is fast when you do it right. That fractal almost always gets my group laughing at ourselves. We then move on to shred whichever boss we are given.

The uncategorized fractal with it’s lightning staircase and harpies is also a blast – and a challenging set of fights.

Personally I would find 4 all-combat fractals in a row to be tiresome and boring. I suspect that the people on this thread, the ones suggesting all the puzzle fractals, would agree with me.

Sure, simple and shallow puzzles work wonders if you find lightning staircase challenging / interesting.

Luckily not everyone thinks like you or this game would be really really boring.

I agree with Shogei personally. There is nothing wrong with variety. We just have to make sure we get the balance right. Not sure about your final comment Wethospu simply because you don’t have access to metrics to show you just how many people do or don’t like this kind of content and in design assumption is very dangerous.

Chris

Variety is good. Shallow encounters, not so much. Variety and deep encounters are not exclusive so I can’t understand why people keep pushing only one of them.

Yes, without metrics I can only speak for myself. Hopefully I don’t need any metrics for that.

If your metrics show that people prefer shallow encounters then I suggest focusing more on the living story instead of fractals.

That sounds good for me.

If you’re going to re-do the system due to appearance of impropriety, I think you should re-do it not with a system that can redress errors in it after the fact, but which actively seeks to eliminate those errors before they occur. At the very least, if a record is to be rejected, a majority of approvers should second the rejection (which isn’t even onerous, because the first person to review it must have a reason why, and can simply say something like “check 4:38 and you’ll notice the thief uses a hylek pot for swiftness” or whatever), and thus, when actually rejected you can say something like “a majority of our approvers are rejecting this for X”, instead of something like “[possible person you’ve got a long standing, ugly, and public grudge with] has rejected your record because X”.

If rejection is based on a clear rule break why would you need more than one person? If any approver feels uncertain about any decision they could call in a voting.

And yes, DnT approves this.

Value of Precision

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Wethospu.6437

Wethospu.6437

With 2100 power, 50% critchance and 50 critdamage
you get: 0.5*2100 + 0.5*2100*2 = 3150
add 21 power: 0.5*2121 + 0.5*2121*2 = 3181.5
add 21 precision: 0.49*2100 + 0.51*2100*2 = 3171

The amount of extra damage Power brings is based on Precision and Critical Damage. Similarly the amount of extra damage Precision brings is based on Power and Critical Damage.
If I understood you correctly you are basing your Precision analysis on all three: Power, Precision and Critical Damage (= average damage).
In other words you say that every +1 to CritChance causes +1% more damage. So going from 0% to 100% with steps of 1% would cause 1.01^100 = 2.7 times as much damage, which obviously is not true.

Changes which would balance the current Hammer warrior opness.

1) Adrenaline should take longer to accumulate. With current abilities it’s basically always up within the cooldown of an adrenal ability. That’s like giving mesmers shatter every 5 seconds, or thieves the steal ability every 5 seconds.

2) Hammer aoe stun should spend adrenaline if it misses. Currently you just get a 5 second cooldown. If you miss that’s your fault.

3) Healing signet health +adrenal health – completely ridiculous health regen.

Stacking sigils rendered useless?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Wethospu.6437

Wethospu.6437

Using a sigil like Force or infusions isn’t really a hassle as they are just passive effects. Perhaps you have to swap some weapons at start of the dungeon but that’s it. Also you get like 5-10% more dps (depends what you change)

What about stacking sigils then? You really can’t just equip them as stacking on elite enemies probably results in a dps loss. Instead you have to wait for a big group of normal enemies which aren’t available in every dungeon. Once you have your stacks you are probably locked on that weapon forever (can’t for example switch to a different weapon while skipping). Also there is always a risk of getting downed. And what you get? 0-3% more dps (depends when you are able to get the stacks).

Not to mention the worst case scenario, that they will be active only when using that weapon set. Which would mean dps loss in pretty much every case.

30/0/0/10/30 users usually assume near max Might stacks. Heightened Focus is still bugged so it gives only 9% Critical Chance which also makes this build weaker.

With 30/0/0/10/30 you want pick Dual Wielding, Axe Mastery, Berserker’s Power, Empower Alllies (Empowered if someone is using this already), Signet Mastery/Inspiring Shouts/whatever, Sharpened Axes/whatever, Heightened Focus.

Story-mode should be introduction to dungeon layout, enemy-types and mechanics.
It’s not really relevant whether you can solo or faceroll it as long as it prepares you for exp-mode (until you add gold/exp reward).
It’s not a surprise no one is doing story-modes when they are often harder/longer than exp-modes (with crappy rewards), and doesn’t really even teach you anything about exp-mode.

Wethospu.6437

To be honest, I wish they would have created entirely different system. Why must we do 4 fractals in a row? I know current system is designed like this but it could also be done differently. Now your difficulty is mostly based on getting good maps.

For example you could just choose which Fractal to play but you had to meet specific requirements to advance to higher scales (like do all maps in that scale or get enough “fractal experience” or something, not going to put too much thought because it won’t be implemented anyway). This would also allow hand-tailoring instabilities.

And then of course shortening longer Fractals (like second Seal on Cliffside and Clown Cart on Underground Facility).

CDI- Fractal Evolution

Wethospu.6437

I remember those moments when we got to the third fractal and we either got Underwater or Swamps. It literally felt like we won a lottery. Everyone’s mood automatically shot up, and the evening was complete. That doesn’t happen anymore. Because whatever we do we always end up with a kitten at the end. Hoping we get one of the lesser evils. Complete randomness with level selection was something that made fractals unique. Given we sometimes got a really bad roll with 2 really long fractals back to back, but it was outweighed by the times we had those fun easy runs. I miss those. Like seriously miss those. I would love to see it go back to that.

This will probably come as bit offending but I have to ask. Do you gamble in real life?

Instabilities are an amazing idea to add variety. And i think it would work better if you added more randomization instead of a fixed one per level. As in the current situation, people avoid all the annoying ones and stick with easy, making the others kinda pointless.

As for raising the difficulty of the content as you progress. Instabilities is also good way to do it. How about mixing up? For instance. Level 30 to 40, we have fixed instabilities. As for level 40 to 50, they start coming randomized for each level, then 60 to 70, it is randomized AND there are more instabilities to pick from, harder, and from there on, you can start adding 2 instabilities at same time per fractal.

Do you realize this wouldn’t be a challenge? It would be a RNG-fest.

Lots of you guys seem to ignore that random gets very easily out of control. Randomized systems will always have good and bad rolls. And more you rely on random, more prevalent those rolls become.

gw2dungeons.net: General guide discussion

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Wethospu.6437

Wethospu.6437

Heyh, based on my observation the biggest thing needed for the dungeon community is a general dungeon guide. There are actually quite many concepts which you have to learn to play effectively and I don’t think they are explained very well anywhere.

For pages I have considered this structure:

General page (done)

  • What are dungeons and fractals?
  • How to gear up / find info (game settings, basic combat)
  • How to use lfg (+ sellers)
  • Exploiting

Meta (done)

  • What meta means and what is the current meta
  • Why it works and how it’s used (active def vs. passive def)
  • Brief description of professions’ strengths and weaknesses
  • Links to gameplay/build guides

Combat (done)

  • How to deal damage (melee, damage build, might, vuln, fury)
  • Pulling
  • Stacking
  • Positioning and mobility

Active defense (done)

  • Explain reflecting, absorption, dodge, evade, dodgejump, block, immunity, invulnerability, blind, control
  • Strengths and weaknesses

Skipping (done)

  • Why?
  • How to (stacking stealth, swiftness, mobility, teleports, portal)

Combos (done)

  • What are they? Overwriting fields?
  • Important ones
  • Links to stacking video guides

Others (done)

  • Combat / out of combat
  • NPC aggro
  • Linecasting

Glossary (done)

  • Terms like meta, zerk, ICD, stack and so on

Now you probably think that lots of those have already been done somewhere. That’s true. I’m going to link to other sources as much as possible to reduce my work and give credit to other people. Current resources:

  • GW2 wiki: Descriptions for various stuff
  • Finder’s combat guide: http://tinyurl.com/GW2combatguide
  • Dungeon forum FAQ for various stuff
  • Dulfy / DnT profession guides for professions
  • Maybe that new combo guide on reddit (have to check it first)

If you have any ideas for what should be explained or how any resources please let me know.

Also it will be quite a challenge (at least for me) to keep the guide easy to follow and coherent with all resources around. So if you have any ideas how to organize different topics that would be appreciated.

2. You want self improvement? How many times do you enter the downed state in a dungeon? There’s your self improvement. If you go down in a dungeon one time, then you obviously have room to improve to going down zero times the next round. No need for this meter nonsense.

Ahh, so that’s why that Ranger was max-ranging with pvt-armor. Hopefully one day I have improved enough to reach his level on my glass-cannon melee Warrior.

Raid Feedback

My only issue is the tutorial mobs.

  • Any mechanics they can teach will get explained by players in much higher detail within one day.
  • The low threat and high health makes them very boring to play against.
  • They are low threat which allows you kill them without understanding their mechanics.

I propose two solutions:

1) Buff them

  • Make green guardian spam displacement AoEs so people learn to avoid them.
  • Make blue guardian one shot the team when they miss the AoE.
  • Make red guardian spawn more seekers.
  • Lower their health a bit.

2) Move them away

  • People can practice them if they want.
