If we actually look at what happened and apply some logic we might actually get something reasonable.
They buffed damage by 10%. Base skill changed but traited one didn’t. They had no reason to touch the trait so we can quite safely assume they didn’t. This makes me believe there are actually two different skills, base one and traited one.
If above is true, all they have to do is change 1 or 2 numbers. And that’s a 1 minute work.

IIRC, with achievement points they let people stay at max. I’m also fine with staying at maximum level.
IIRC, with MF they allowed you to repick stats for your gear. I’m also fine with repicking my level.

tl;dr: Add an option to reduce own personal reward while increasing own personal strength.

Most of you have probably checked lfg for dungeons and seen numerous requirements about experience and gear. Sure, you can make or join a group for new guys but that’s a recipe for a bad dungeon experience since everyone is clueless. Ironically getting to decent groups would be a good way to gain experience and gear.

What I propose is an anti-gambit system. At start of every dungeon there would be a powerful skritt magician who would offer you various buffs in exchange for shinies. Each buff would increase strength of your character but in return reduce your end reward.

For example you could reduce damage taken by 50% or increase damage dealt by 100%, each reducing reward by 50%. If you take both, your end rewards get reduced by 75%. There could also be stuff like permanent stability, condition immunity, etc.
These buffs could be activated at any time so if Lupicus wipes your group too many times you can come back with increased strength. Naturally activating any of these prevents you getting any achievements.

What this system achieves to do:

  • Allows anyone to experience dungeon story / encounters regardless of their skill level
  • Prevents weak groups getting stuck and having to forfeit whole dungeon
  • Encourages experienced groups to take newer / weakly geared players
  • Allows developers to increase dungeon difficulty

To be honest I wouldn’t really call this a discussion.

If I had a problem using the word ‘option’ properly, I probably wouldn’t call this a discussion either.

If you merely assert that someone is wrong it bears no weight. If you have an esoteric tool, say, a dictionary, you can at least argue that, conventionally, a person might be wrong in their use of a common word like option. The person who can’t function at the level of basic English, however, is unlikely to move beyond assertions. Generally they function at the level of the ad hominem, never actually engaging with a stated proposition. Unfortunately, that is where you find yourself.

I really love these kind of thinly veiled insults which only further show your ignorance and level of “discussion”. I have nothing against people with a condescending attitude, but you better be right or it looks really dumb.

I would like to see encounters WITHOUT Defiant.

Idea applied to Arah p4 priest of Balthazar:

Spin works as a stun-break, moves much faster and actually follows people. And shoots fiery projectiles (Burning).
AoE attack (kind of like a meteor shower) takes longer to cast but gives Stability at start and is much more dangerous if it finishes.
At every 5% of lost health, a veteran Hound of Balthazar appears and priest gets one stack of “awesome powerfulness” (moves faster while spinning and does more damage, AoEs are bigger, gets deadly at ~5 stacks).

Hounds inflicts Burning on their attacks and at 25% start exploding. While casting explode they are immune to damage and inflict Burning on nearby enemies. If exploding finishes, big damage and knockback. If Hound dies without exploding, it drops a bundle which you can throw at priest to remove one stack.

I want to see you stun-lock that.

You’re taking that example too literally, it was just meant to be simple. I understand that you’d still have a chance to crit even if you are taking Power instead, but the scaling should be the same regardless. 1% crit chance adds 1% damage with +50% crit damage whether you’re going from 0% to 1% or 79% to 80%, and 20 Power adds 1% damage whether you have a 0% crit chance or 100%.
Yeah it’ll grant more actual damage since the numbers being put out are larger, but the percent is the same, and both Power and Precision are working on percents.

I have to take it literally. You are basing your theory on one result (only one it’s working on).

Damage added by critical hit is: damage of crit – damage of non-crit. This is X*Power*(CritDamage – 1). X is constant (weapon, target armor, etc) so I leave it out for simplicity. Power is similarly a constant too but I will include it for clarity (so base damage (non-critting) is equal to Power).

Effect to average damage is 0.01 * Power * (CritDamage – 1), because extra damage applies only 1% of time.

This added damage is 1% more damage if: added (average) damage / original (average) damage = 0.01

This is:
0.01 * Power * (CritDamage – 1) / (Power (1 – CritChance) + Power * CritChance * CritDamage) = 0.01
Multiple by 100 and move average damage to otherside so:
Power * (CritDamage – 1) = Power (1 – CritChance) + Power * CritChance * CritDamage
Divide by Power (this is why it could have been left out in the beginning too):
CritDamage – 1 = 1 – CritChance + CritChance * CritDamage
Move stuff around:
CritChance * (CritDamage – 1) + 2 – CritDamage = 0

With 50% extra CritDamage total CritDamage becomes 2 so:
CritChance * 2 + 2 – 2 = 0
CritChance = 0

So with 50% extra CritDamage only way to get 1% more damage with 1% extra CritChance is if original CritChance is 0.


However, if you look at added average damage with 50% extra CritDamage it becomes 0.01 * Power. Which means with 50% extra CritDamage damage added is always equal to 1% of BASE damage (non-critting).

Anyone can step up and say that I’m wrong but no one went to scale 80 for increased karma and higher change of fractal weapons. As far as I know, you don’t even get higher chance and just going to scale 58 would have been enough.

I have thought a bit about a challenging open world content. It was pretty long time ago so I have probably forgot most stuff but here are some concepts which I think are necessary.

  • An entry free
  • A mechanic to kick dead players out
  • Anti-zerg mechanics
  • Player-based difficulty
  • Difficulty based rewards

For example Underworld:

  • 4 factions: Reapers, Spiders, Skeletons and Gravelings (or something more interesting). Factions hostile to each other.
  • 4 areas: Spider base, Skeleton base, Graveling base and no-mans land in the middle. Area of sizes would dynamically change depending on events.
  • Reapers are extremely lethal and attempt keep balance. They detect presence of players and ambush them. Stronger the presence, more likely ambushes happen (anti-zerg). Visible danger meter.
  • Doing stuff would give soul power to players. Upon death, soul power is lost. Soul power increases your character’s strength and presence (player based difficulty).
  • More soul power you get, more likely you get attacked (until you can’t keep up). But you would also get some special abilities to get some big rewards, like spawn a broodmother or just have strong abilities to help with tough enemies (difficulty based rewards).
  • Necrid horsewagonmen would patrol the area and kick out any defeated players. They are neutral but very dangerous if attacked. So saving players would be possible.

I feel the same. Waiting for the sweet, sweet release of a forum ban. But I don’t want to just ask for it — I want to earn it :-P

So much hostility from people who can’t stay out of other’s business.

Skady, if you don’t like selling, don’t buy or sell. Easy as that. You’ve said yourself that you “make your own group” and don’t have trouble filling when you do. People who want to run the dungeon may still do so, and the sellers can just sit in their instances, waiting for buyers. No harm, no foul.

So what’s the problem?

The problem is that dungeon sellers behave like a typical vocal minority demanding features just for themselves, ignoring everyone else.

This very thread is the quintessence of what “dungeon selling community” truly is.

- we cannot sell dungeons safely anymore! Waaaaaaa
- give me party leader so i can kick everyone! Waaaaa
- or I rage quit! Waaaaaaa

Point is that strong leadership would solve problems for everyone.

- your instance can’t get hijacked (people kicking you at end)
- your group, your rules (for example if you start “all clear” or “beginner” group you won’t get kicked by elitists)
- leader going afk could be simply solved by requiring 4 votes to kick the leader
- while also supporting selling

It was still rude of him to leave. Especially since it was his intention from the beginning to only do the first fractal.

Perhaps I’m missing something, but is it really that hard to find people on lower levels?

I don’t join fractals in progress because it’s usually a good indicator of a disaster group. I think many people also hold this assumption and so it makes it hard for the group to fill that spot once it’s been vacated.

I have often tried to join 40+ groups in last fractal. Spot usually goes under a minute.

Anyways, when you put a lfg there’s a lot of space so you can say stuff like “one had to leave” or “good group”, or don’t even have to tell that it’s 2nd/3rd fractal.

No, it’s just a normal fight mechanic.

You automatically lose after a set amount of time. There is no functional difference between the mechanic I listed and a hard enrage timer.

There is no functional difference between parents and enrage timers.

Legendary Scarlet Magical Missile Tower Infra Structure (bit long name so let’s call it LSMMTIS instead).

On middle of a maze. Wooden pole with Scarlet’s (organic, this is after you beheaded her but she still escaped) head on top of it. LSMMTIS is protected by a magical barrier. You can only enter and attack her with 5 love points. Every 25% her heads gets bigger and bigger and her voice louder and louder, at 0% it explodes and reveals Trahearne inside.

“Play time”: She laughs like an idiot and shoots a missile at every player. Missiles move very slow, can’t be attacked, blocked or evaded and are heat-seeking. They are also smart enough to navigate the maze. When they hit you get downed. If you were downed you get defeated. If your missile hits someone else Scarlet loves you and you get one point. If your missile defeats someone you will rally. If missile doesn’t have a live target it will self-destruct. Cooldown: when all missiles have hit someone or after 300 seconds

“DIE DIE DIE”: Her eyes glow red. Alive players with the highest score divide 100% of damage (if one player he takes 100% of his max health, if 2 players they take 50% each, and so on). Cooldown: 60

“I’M SO FUNNY”: No visual cue. Teleports every player to random location. Cooldown: when someone gets defeated.

Topics like this always make me think about making huge topics how to fix lots of stuff and make PvE more interesting and require more coordination for efficient clears. But then I ask myself, why bother?

Imagine if you had to:

- Balance between direct and condition damage
- Stack more than one boon and condition
- Use active stuff to get highest damage instead of passive/half-passive

Anyways in my opinion a glass cannon party shouldn’t be able to mostly take DPS traits and utilities while going on full frontal assault against the boss. Instead, bosses should last long enough and deal reasonable pressure so unless players are extremely skilled they would have to back down to regenerate during the fight or equip enough defensive traits, utilities or gear.

For example:

- Skilled glass group: Uses smart movement, position and active defense to avoid most of the damage. Can equip mostly damage stuff and kill boss fast (at least 2 minutes).

- Average “stack” glass group: Pressure too high, wipes at boss. Needs more defense to sustain.

- Average tank group: Can equip damage stuff and clear boss as fast as average glass group. Can also equip defense stuff to make it even more easier but take longer.

Introduction
As most of you may already know, GWSCR.com has stopped working so record runs haven’t been updated for a while. DnT took the initiative to resurrect the project and after some discussion we decided it would be the best to host in on neutral site like gw2dungeons.net.

Goal of this topic is to discuss how this should be implemented and to voice any concerns.

My role
To keep things as neutral as possible and to avoid any drama/suspicion I have left rT. Also I won’t take part in any decisions about rules or records. What I do is run the site, update stuff, make sure everyone does their job properly and try to solve drama stuff.

Other roles
To keep rules updated we need someone to call meetings to decide and write updated rules.

As far as organizing rules updates, Debby and Menno from iV have been doing a good job with it. they have far more contacts than I do, especially with the smaller EU guilds who I have probably never interacted with.

Then we also need people to approve record runs (preferably not the guy who writes rules). I have no idea how many people are sufficient so suggestions are welcome. Also how record approval should work is up to debate. I would prefer approvers to have direct access to the record table so they can update it on their own. But gw2dungeons is static content so they would at least have to know how to use ftp and svn. Not a rocket science but if you have any trouble with microwaves… Another option is to for example entirely rely on me updating the site.

Record posting
I think the official forums should be used for record posting and any announcements. This means that there would be no separate forum for records. gw2dungeons would still be used to show the records.

gw2dungeons could have a record-applying form to inform us about a new record. I’m not sure if this is really needed though if approvers regularly use the official forums.

Other stuff
I will later make another topic to discuss about categories and what the site should actually have. I know you guys probably have all kind of ideas but please try to hold on them until we get basics settled.

To be honest, Wethospu said it the best way possible:

I guess it is time to open this up a bit.

People are always going to favor most damaging specs because they cut the run time and give the best profits. Literally only way to stop this is to make content too hard to complete as a dps spec. This either means a gearcheck or a very hard difficulty.

And if they create a very hard difficulty then normal people (most of the guys posting here) won’t be able to complete it, regardless of their spec. And guess what, that means groups really want you to be on par with the meta and stuff actually gets vicious.

I actually liked where dutchiez and timmyf where going.
Their idea to keep the lower levels for those who just want to have seen everything experienced all lore and similar, and the higher levels for those who actually want content that taxes their gaming skills.
And that the scaling should not just include higher damage and HP on the mob’s side but new abilities and encounter mechanics to actually increase difficulty in an interesting way.

I’m quite confident that we will only see changes in early levels. Perhaps with a reset and max level lowered to 30. No one must feel left out.

I have about 5 times tried to promote my idea about fractal rework which in my opinion would fix lots of issues, promote variety. reduce time investment, reduce RNG, reduce stat scaling, add challenge and stuff like that. Zero dev comments.

But no, let’s focus instead on something which no one really cares about. Well, except people who maybe try fractals few times and then go back to the living story.

I think Lupicus summon could have more visible effect on target. The green cloud on target is quite difficulty to see if you are focused on Lupicus. Lots of people think that Grubs just randomly appear.

Nah, they should just give the best loot for zerg-farming so that there’s no incentive to improve or even actually look at the screen.

So it’s not seriously tested until someone gets exactly same results as you would like?

And honestly, do you realize that Sigil of Accuracy also increases DPS? (which is why I actually excluded it from my tests)

Ty for the constructive feedback! All excellent points. I’ve added the black outline for future text edits, as well as the wanted consumables. I’ll definitely leave the serious stuff for the objective section, and come up with a different way for the funny stuff. The pauses/slows for tells is a very good idea, I’ll add those in as well, and I’ll use gw2dungeons.net for confirmation on specifics. Thanks again!

According to the devs, even with those new instabilities your way up to 50 is going to be easier than it is now.
