Looking at instability list. Both 40 and 50 have Agonizing Expedition. If I have understood things properly 40-49 scales have the same Agony. If their future plans follow this we always have to first beat scale with intense Agony.

Based on what I have heard you really need enough AR to take only 1% per tick (6% is doable but much much harder). So only way to get through is to have high enough AR which makes every other source of Agony a big joke.

Sure, pre-patch Maw forced certain AR but at least your whole team didn’t have to get on 1%-6% range.

Or is the idea to join people with higher levels unlocked? Exactly what lots of us did to reach scale 80 prepatch…

What’s the issue of having solo-fun in open-PVE? If Dungeons get to same difficulty (which they would need to because you can build your character so differently) then what’s the difference?
But I agree that Story-modes are way too hard for what they are supposed to be.

In Dark Souls lightly armored characters have faster endurance regeneration, which allows them to dodge more, and move faster. And heavy armor really makes you quite slow, and less able to dodge (but you get a lot of tankiness in return). It seems this balance wasn’t considered as carefully for GW2. That is why berserker gear currently dominates the game. Cause and effect.

It was a poor example and wasn’t even about my point.

For lots of people GW2 is free time, something they do to have fun. Not a task like morning commute. For some people having fun means challenging themselves, not just getting virtual rewards. And it’s more than possible to challenge yourself in GW2 PvE, using intended and designed features. As I have said now multiples times, we only need rewards for doing those challenging things.

But even my point applies to your example. If you are looking for a challenge then it’s possible to make it more challenging. Just like you said, do it “wearing a blindfold after downing 7 shots of tequila”.

Open world pve is probably the best community. Followed by wvw. The 2 most toxic communities are spvp and dungeon.

Where skill and individual performance actually matter and you can’t just blob together with 109238129083 other players and be carried to victory by said numbers.

Pve is 90% about bring the right gear+comp and 1 or 2 dodges sometimes. Most dmg is bypassed with reflect+block+ kill the mob to fast before I die.

Even wvw require more skill because you are agaist a player not an npc that does the same skill rotation every time.

Have you ever gotten out of the AC/CoF1/SE1 rotation? I mean, if you do the easiest quick dungeons then, yeah…

Personally I’ve found the Open world PVE community far more insulting than the dungeon one, but of course that may just be because I see more of them so it gets spammed across my screen, where dungeons are generally one guy being a jerk and either I leave or someone else kicks him so… yeah.

Quick list of super easy dungeon that anyone can run in zerker gear even without paying much attention:

cm 1,2 and 3
ta up and fw
se 1 and 3
cof 1 and 2
coe 1,2 and 3

I just listed around 75% of the dungeon paths available. Did you just notice that the huge majority of the pve takes no skill? Compare pve dungeons with wvw or spvp is a joke. Do you really think a boss programed to do always the same skill rotation is harder to fight than a real player?

Dungeons were meant to be high-end, going with random kitten and still winning is not high-end.

Regarding Toughness, I just compare each value (3200,4200, …) to the base 2200. You just compare each one with the previous (2200 vs 3200, 3200 vs 4200, …). The gradual diminishing of the value is apparent in each example.

Regarding Strength now… What you mention is absolutely correct. But if you compare it from the baseline, from 1000 to 2000 its 100% damage increase, from 1000 to 3000 its 200% damage increase.

Its just that Power scales in a linear manner (graph should be a line) while Toughness scales in a curved manner (graph should be a curve).

It’s important to understand what you measuring. Just looking at numbers in vacuum easily makes you jump in wrong conclusions.

The important thing to realize is that on the damage formula, Power is numerator and Armor is denominator. For example if you have 10 and multiply it with 2 you get 20 which is 100% more. But if you divide with it 2 you get 5 which is 50% less. Similarly you multiply with 3 and get 200% more but dividing “only” results 67% less.

Yes, if you drew a curve, damage increase would have a straight line while damge decrease wouldn’t. So based on this Power scales linearly while Armor doesn’t. However, if you multiply and divide with same value they cancel each other. So no matter how much you stack Power and Armor they will cancel each other as long as you add them equally. This is only possible if Armor has same returns as Power.


If you want to see how Armor scales linearly you should measure “hits to kill”.

Let’s say that with 2200 Armor you can tank 10 hits. 3200 Armor gives 31.25% damage reduction which means you can tank X hits where X * (1 – 31.25%) = 10. In this case X is 14.55 hits.

4200 Armor gives 47.62% damage reduction when compared to 2200 Armor which means you can tank 19.10 hits.

From 2200 to 3200 you can tank ~4.6 hits more. From 3200 to 4200 you can tank also ~4.6 hits more.

Edit: I had to round the final values since apparently you can’t say 4, 5 and 5 together.

Judging from his posts he’s never stepped foot out of PvE. Which is fine, but having no experience in pvp/WvW mean you can’t really comment on how it is to face off against a Hammer warrior.

So it was 7.5 and not 5. I also don’t know the exact dimensions of the great sword, and how far you can travel in a sing;e rush +sword leap and what’s the optimal colour scheme for a Sylvari. Guess I don’;t know anything about warriors then.

I don’t see you attacking the guy who thought warriors only had 1 blast finisher eh?

I also don’t see you addressing my comments regarding the lack of adrenaline loss on earth shaker misses, or you can run a 20k hps build, with high toughness, 100 percent crit chance, high crit damage, 65 condition reduction, and high power with a constantly ticking uninterruptible healing passive and on whom cc lasts for 1/2 a second if that. (not to mention massive mobility).

That’s why I only talk about game mechanics. So far they are mostly same in all game modes.

I wouldn’t boast about your experience when you only had to either hover over a burst skill and see the cooldown or look at the cooldown number after missing a burst skill. And my point still stands, why would anyone take you seriously if you don’t even bother to check your facts?

Am I the only who finds state of the dungeons bit sad when it’s more about exploiting stupid AI than using your own skill correctly?
Splitting groups with pulling, standing on funny spots, skipping, using terrain when kiting, abusing line-of-sight, hitting through walls, watching them just suiciding against reflects., watching them stand there eating all damage…
Above is pretty much only reason I can solo stuff.

Biggest rule changes:

  • This excludes raid events and bosses which have in-game timers. In those cases the in-game timer is used instead.
  • Full raid clears and dungeons: timer stops when the final boss has been killed.
  • Fractal records must be at the highest possible scale.

Yep, there is no accountability.

Approvers are volunteers and they only have to review records they want to review. If no one wants to review your record then your record won’t get approved. That’s something to keep in your mind when you submit your records and call people corrupt.

If a record doesn’t get approved within few weeks (your submission is just a day old) then I will try to fix the situation by getting more approvers. But if no one wants to review your record then your record will be never approved.

TL;DR: There is no obligation. The whole system is based on good faith and respect which you have already broken on your end.

Based on my experiences videos seem a lot more active with 2x speed while still being clear to watch (I used Windows Movie Maker for this).
Like that Lupicus solo video, watching 15 mins that at normal speed is just so boring.

Would be nice if it was possible for every classes though.

The only one on that list you can’t melee at all is the Ooze boss. All the other ones you can move in and out of melee depending on the situation.

I wonder how I soloed it with only melee weapons.

Unskippable Cinematics - Why?

Developer said that sometimes they have to make stuff unskippable because there is stuff happening background (= dungeon coded bad).

When a scene is scripted out there may be triggers that NEED to happen in order for a set of events to play out the way they were meant to be. If we allow players to skip this type of cinematic, then it can unravel scene, spawns, and such. I’d love to have a fix for this…but players may have to bare with it for the time being. I feel your pain.

On the other hand I don’t know why I took the bate and reply… the fact that you don’t think 44% critical chance is not enough to constantly land critical hits, is depressing enough.

This is yet another example of logic and feelings.

Logic: “44% critical chance gives my attacks 44% chance to be a critical strike.”
Feeling: “44% critical chance allows me to crit constantly”.

I’m sorry but with stuff like this people here will never take you seriously.

Downscaling + new system is weird

Tried a little experiment with the new system.

At level 21, in a level 17 zone. I hit level 22 and got +40 to all base attributes. Whoo, now I’m more powerful! This turned out to be about +35ish due to the downscaling but still. More powerful.

Then I hit level 23 in the same area, and lost 8 power and 7 from my other stats. Then I gained another level… and lost 8 power and 7 from the other stats. Wait a minute. What?

With the old system, downscaling made you weaker, but it was gradual as you levelled. With this one, you get a huge spike in stats that makes the game easier, but between these big stat spikes the game difficulty rises quickly. It doesn’t make any sense at all. Going from level 22 to 23 caused me to lose 80 max HP. It’s very weirdly designed. With all the stuff introduced in this patch about introducing new players, this change in particular makes absolutely no sense. The game difficulty wobbles violently from level to level.

Did you experiment with the old system since you have something to compare it to?

What were your stats as lvl 22-23 in lvl 17 zone before change? No? Sheesh.

Yes, it ALSO went down since your gear was worse for your level.

In the old system, downscaling was on the same curve as stat distribution so you actually increased in strength as your level increased. In the current system, base stats are distributed in big “chunks” every few levels, instead of in a steadily increasing curve every level. This means that, due to the down-scaling system not changing to mirror the new stat distribution, you go from being seriously for several levels in between a “stat chunk” being awarded to very, very strong for a single level. Then the cycle repeats.

No you didnt increase in strenght while downscaling. I have 12 lvl 80ies. If you didnt upgrade your gear regularly you were weakling as you lost stats on each level (while dowscaled)

But please, since you have teh numbers show us how your stats behaved from going from lvl 22 to lvl 24 in lvl 17 zone so we can compare it ot now.

While you are correct, the previous effect wasn’t as severe as people are currently reporting.

From example level 22 in level 17 area would lose 1-104/140 = 26% of his stats.

Level 23 in level 17 area would lose 1 – 104/148 = 30% of his stats.

Losing 8 power would mean that his power from gear was about 8 / 4% = 8 / 0.04 = 200. Which is much higher than what you normally have at that point (no trinkets, etc). Also he lost stats from all attributes which can’t be explained by gear.
