Yes, difficulty of the task depends on the task itself. But it also depends on the environment and the person doing it.

Do you realize how flawed that CR is as a number? It doesn’t mean anything on its own. There is no guarantee that a fight with 90 CR is harder than a fight with 50 CR. Everyone (hopefully) understand that soloing Lupicus is harder than doing it with a party.

Reminder of what my actual arguments are:

1) It’s possible to play challenging PvE content

2) Self imposed rules make challenges harder

Thats not the reason they do it though. Noone enjoys do the wisp puzzle. None of the pure invironmental puzzles are fun after doing them once. Puzzles arent replayable or repeatable. And even if you somehow make them randomly generated they will still eventually become boring because theres only so many iterations that can be generated.

How is that different from the jellyfish boss? How are any of the combat encounters in fractals not wildly repetitive the 10th time? or the 50th?

I’m still enjoying guild puzzles. I think they have (a lot) more life than you’re giving them credit for.

The gameplay is designed around combat. Every skill and stat (excluding magic find) is combat oriented. Also combat encounters scale.

Now let’s take a look at the wisp running. Most of your stats, gear or skills won’t matter at all. Also it doesn’t scale.

Which one has more room for innovation and tactics?

gw2dungeons.net: Test the new site!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Wethospu.6437

Wethospu.6437

Heyh, gw2dungeons.net is about to get a new (maintenance) release next week (16.10). Before that, I would like to try fix bugs and polish and for that I need your help.

The site can be found at http://gw2dungeons.net/test/. Please don’t link or share this so people don’t start using test sites (had already enough people complaning that dev/ doesn’t work).

Known issues:

  • Lack of polish. Interface is not finished. Any ideas welcome.
  • Enemy attack notes are missing. This system was converted to enemy tactics. I never had help or time to convert notes to tactics (link).
  • General guide page is outdated. This won’t be updated before the expansion.

How to help?

  • Report any bugs/issues you find.
  • Suggest any features, tweaks, improvements, etc.
  • Test damage numbers in level 80 content.
  • I added more ads in some cases. Does this feel intrusive?

Biggest changes:

  • Redesigned guide page: Images from the path shown on left. Clicking makes them bigger. Profession tips converted to profession tactics.
  • Redesigned search page: Data can be filtered by dungeon, enemy rank and other things.
  • Redesigned enemy page: Enemy attributes, images, etc. Enemies now appear on a pop-up. This can be reversed to previous behavior in settings.
  • Updated content. Guides updated/being updated by Zui. Atoi helped me to get enemy attributes.

Change log (of stuff I remember):

General:

  • Added cookie consent thing as requested by EU.
  • Improved responsive design. Page should scale better.
  • Responsive ads and thumbs. Scale down based on screen size.
  • Improved design. Ads and other elements relocated.
  • Added tab system for the overlay. Previous links/images/enemies are now stored (while on a single page).
  • Amount of stored tabs depends on settings.
  • Overlay scales down too big images.
  • Overlay background works even when overlay is taller than the screen.
  • Redesigned search page.
  • Enemies can be filtered by dungeon, rank and tags. Tags include stuff like attack types anf effects.
  • Added option to change how much enemy information appears on the search page.
  • Added option to change how many search results are shown.
  • Improved load times by merging some files and optimizing others.
  • Added a setting to change font sizes.
  • Added a X button to overlay which can be used to close the overlay.

Guides:

  • Added images to guides (thumbnails).
  • Thumbnails can be clicked to make them bigger (overlay).
  • Converted profession tips to tactics.
  • Some profession tactics updated.
  • Added some basic information about dungeon rewards (recipes, etc.).
  • Updated potion/sigil recommendation for all guides.
  • Added potion/sigil recommendation for people who want to be optimal.
  • Added bug tactic to explain harmful bugs.
  • All guides updated by Zui.
  • Updated average run times for dungeons.
  • Added guild ranking to guild record page.
  • Added player ranking to player record page.
  • Added table of contents to start of each guide.

Enemies:

  • Updated internal potion system to be more accurate.
  • Enemies now appear on the overlay. Can be changed back to sidebar from settings.
  • Holding ctrl will open enemies on sidebar (or overlay if sidebar is the default one).
  • Sidebar enemy names can be clicked to open them on overlay.
  • Overlay and sidebar have separated settings and be tweaked as liked.
  • Added enemy tactic system (similar to guides).
  • Bosses automatically get their tactic from guides.
  • Redesigned enemy attacks for improved clarity. Effects appear on separate lines.
  • Formalized enemy attacks to show damage per hit, total damage and duration.
  • Improved internal buff system to handle non-standard buffs.
  • Added settings to customize what is shown on enemy screens.
  • Converted all enemy data (~1000 enemies) to the new format.
  • Fixed lots of minor issues (like missing damage values) on all enemy data.
  • Merged about 100 enemies as they were shared between different dungeons.
  • Added some enemy images.
  • Added some enemy attack images/videos.
  • Added lots of new enemy data (with Atoi).
  • Added most enemy genders.
  • Added most enemy weapon strength values.
  • Added most enemy powers, health, armor, condition damage, healing power, critical chance and critical damage values.
  • Added most enemy size values.
  • Added information about scaling mode for fractal enemies.
  • Verified most enemy races.
  • Added cooldowns and ranges for most attacks.
  • Updated fractal scaling formulas.
  • Added proper damage values with various options (range, minimum, average and maximum).
  • Added dynamical enemy level scaling (can be changed with a click of a button).
  • Added dynamical fractal scaling (similar to above).

[PvE] Revising the "DPS Meta"

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Wethospu.6437

Wethospu.6437

Gear is not the issue.

Nerf stacking by giving boss a cleave with at least 5 target limit.

Buff conditions, implement some kind of condition overflow for PvE.

Maybe do something with reflects (I’m probably biased with Warrior main).

Balance innate survivability by buffing health of low tier and reducing health of high tier.

Other classes have stuff like http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vigorous_Precision which even require much smaller investment and are much simpler to use.

The trait which is getting nerfed by half next patch because there’s too much dodging going on?

Half?

A trait which is already weaker and requires more investment loses 70%. If you want them equal it should get 30-60 seconds internal cooldown.

The guardian trait is nerfed.

The warrior trait is a bug getting corrected.

How is that complicated?

It’s amazing how easily some people get fooled just by different wording.

Sigil of Energy broken on elementalist

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Wethospu.6437

I guess

If at any point you have two same Sigils equipped on a one weaponset, a stacking rule is applied. While rule is on, you need two same Sigils to get the effect. If you have only one Sigil then it has no effect. Rule is cleared when you have zero of that Sigil equipped.

This means that while equipping and unequipping, it is possible to mess up for example Sigil of Force and lose 5% damage.

People run full DPS because of faster clear time. That’s all. Also exaggerating usually hurts your credibility (people just assume you have no idea what you are talking about).

At the moment I don’t really gearcheck people because I know my damage can carry and the run goes pretty fast. But if my damage gets nerfed I have to gearcheck to ensure we get decent DPS.

No one realizes that OP is talking about AC where the primary “issue” is increased downscaling?

Isnt a 25% vuln cap a bit arbitrary as well?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wethospu.6437

Wethospu.6437

Please give an example of one player stacking 25 vuln. without much effort. At least in dungeons groups struggle to keep bosses at 25 stacks (which would equal 50 stacks on players because of Unshakable), even in quite short fights.

Guardians will be able to instantly apply 25 stacks of vulnurability with their one trap, once they get the Dragon Hunter specialization.

Yes, it’s not that hard to burst vulnerability with a specific build. I actually meant to mean “maintain” but forgot to mention it.

Because well, if there is a 5v5 and one teams stacks 125 vulnerability on one player to “one shot”, the other team can cleanse it pretty easily. Or the target dodges, disengages, etc. for a while. And then there are 5 bad builds (since they focused on stacking the “OP” vulnerability) vs. 5 good builds.

Even if they managed to burst the target down they would have lots of skills on cooldown, and sub-optimal builds. Not to mention that 5 players can blow up one target even without vulnerability.

Point is, it’s not that there is some kind of a switch to suddenly start applying 25 vulnerability every second with no downsides only prevented by the condition cap.

Problem is that the site IP is starting with 192. This is common internal IP address and some older routers/modems falsely block any external connections to these addresses. I personally had this problem too. You can verify this by trying to access some other site with 192. IP (like www.Techweb.com).

What you have to do is access your modem/router by typing its internal IP address to your browser. Common addresses are 192.168.100.1, 192.168.100.2, 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2 but if these won’t work you should press windows+R, write cmd and press enter. Black window should appear. Type ipconfig and press enter. There should be some addresses listed and try them.

Once you got the access you have to login. You should try mix of admin, root, password and see if they work. If not, you may have to reset whole device (but try figure out the login info first!).

If you manage to log in then you should try to find firewall settings. I have no idea which setting actually affects so keep unticking stuff one by one until you find the right one.

Hopefully this helps. Ask if you have problems.

I personally don’t really care who organizes and who get fame and stuff like that. I also don’t really care who wins, loses or gets retaliated (I’m kind of a solo player).

What I care about is how we get anet to work on PvE end game. And for that, we need to make it popular. In my opinion tournament like this is a great chance to gets lots of positive attention. But for that, the matches have to be exciting, especially for the viewers.

I know I have been very aggressively showing my opinion about certain things which has probably annoyed a few of you. Feel free to call me a negative nancy but I didn’t want you to get fooled by success of the first tournament. No one really had any expectations and people were hyped about it so mistakes / bad ideas were tolerated.

I don’t mean to criticize you, I think it was a really good job for a first tournament. However to make this last, it has to go forward. I don’t necessarily mean it has to go forward like I say but of course I will show my opinion. I’m glad to see you guys trying new things on the next tourney.

I genuinely believe removing “no wipe” rule leads to better and more interesting matches. I didn’t like it even before first tourney but wanted to see it in effect. I know my ideas might be all wrong and make the tournament really boring but I have no problem changing my mind if needed.

What you guys are simply asking is to make this fight a button-smash like 99% of the other fights. This is one of the very few fights where you need people who need to know what they are doing, and it really shows on forums.
I really don’t know how highly you people think of yourselves but 99% of the encounters are simply button-smash where you do random stuff and still win.
With Simin you simply can’t have as much as dead-weight as on average encounter. You need people who can run sparks, you need people who know how tears work, you need people who understand how to deal damage (newsflash: change utility skill/traits, use consumables)
But in the end, it’s still easy and you don’t need hyper min-max DPS ascended gear, classes or builds.

And seriously, you think you have superior skill but somehow “worse” people manage to do it? You should just accept the truth and look ways to improve (ask if needed).

I’m willing to carry any team at Simin, just send me a message if I’m on. I have never failed at Simin, regardless of classes, skill levels or gear.

Break Bars

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Wethospu.6437

Knockdown = Stun = Daze = Fear. Most bars equal ~6 seconds of these.

Golem hits multiple times which makes it nice because I doubt breakbars care when cc overlaps. Launch and knockback seemed highly inconsistent so no idea about those.

6 seconds of stun took about 19.75 seconds to regenerate. This matches with breaking the bar causing 5 seconds of stun and 50% more damage, which ends when bar has regenerated ~25%. So regeneration is ~5% per second.

Counted time from using 7 seconds of immobilize to fully regen the bar. Then used 3 seconds of immobilize with other conditions to count their strength.

  • Immobilize: -~8% per second.
  • Chilled: -~5% per second (however slightly stronger than the regen).
  • Weakness: -~4% per second.
  • Blind: -~3% per second.
  • Crippled: -~2.5% per second.

If anyone has read reddit and wonders whether immobilize or chilled work better when the target is moving or whether blind works better when enemy attacks. Well, I have yet to see any difference.

If you don’t mind helping my cause. Not sure what is with that dude but he likes to spread misinformation and just downvotes anyone he disagrees with.

How would you prevent restarting the run? Even if you could, what about people splitting up and having 5 roll attempts? Very likely to get a favorable map.

To be honest, I would appreciate if people focused on how to implement their ideas. It’s easy to have nice ideas like “fix problems, add fun stuff, make people happy” but actually implementations might be much trickier.

Like all the people telling how dredge or rewards have to be fixed. I’m sure they are well aware of that. But what they would (probably) like to hear is how they should be fixed.

Your talking about competition, thats a bit different from replayability. In terms of having a fair competition against other players, random elements wouldnt help you. But in terms of having different/interesting challenges to deal with, and making each playthough different, random helps a lot.

now of course, if you are talking about competition, you have to have the same exact levels for every one, with the same enemies, then you can practice your mastery of learning specific and most effecient techniques, and accurately compare your performance to other people, but if we follow that path what do we have?

People doing the same 3 most effecient, most easy fractals, with the optimal party set ups, The replayability will be extremely low, except if the rewards are so good people feel they must do it.

I personally would give up a good competitive fair test type fractals for a fun/variable/semi unpredictable type fractal in a heart beat. The challenge i look for is more personal than about measuring myself against others. So for me, i dont mind if i have a harder fractal run than someone else, as long as we play well and overcome the challenges. Now, if the reward system rewards actually doing harder things, rather than mastery of the most efficient path, that, i think benefits everyone.

so yeah i think rolling isnt a great thing, i mean its only 1/4 fractals though, so it isnt the end of the world, but it doesnt add anything to fractals.

I mean the proof is there already, every one rolls swamp because it is the fastest fractal. Is it the funnest? not really, is it the most challenging? nope, is it the best designed? nope. Its the fractal that is the quickest stepping stone to getting the daily done as soon as possible.

It’s not about randomness not helping with competition. It’s about randomness completely killing any competitive play. You really can’t have any prestige if luck plays a big role in the outcome. For example, can you truly say you have beaten fractal scale 39 if you didn’t get Cliffside?

If people want only run same maps perhaps issue is with the maps? Increasing length of Swamp and decreasing length of Underground would be very easy to do and help a lot. No point having a bad system and forcing people to use it instead of fixing it.

Could you define fun / variable / semi unpredictable fractal? Why can’t normal fractals be fun? Do you think one well thought encounter would be less fun than a pool of simple encounters? Couldn’t variability come from multiple different instabilities with incentive to play all of them?
