7. Portal Entre/Exeunt.

  • Received a skill fact in tooltip in 15AprFP.
  • Has no range indicator. Impossible to tell whether it is in range or not.
  • Has no “cast time left” indicator for Exeunt. Impossible to tell when it times out.
    Solutions:
  • Introduce 2 icons for portal in the same way that conjured weapons have. One icon will have a timer, another will toggle between active/crossed out/grayed out icon for displaying the range. And this can even be a single icon.
  • Semi-solution: disable casting of Exeunt if out of range; enable it back when in range.

8. Illusions and invulnerable mobs. DEV: “Intended, same reason as LoS… Counter-play.”

  • An illusion skill gets totally wasted if cast onto an invulnerable mob (many Orr events, Marionette, etc). No illusion cast, skill goes onto a full cooldown.
  • Extremely annoying for PvE players. Discouraging to be a mesmer in large-scale events, especially with lack of AoE skills and a lag between the time an illusion is cast and the time it starts attacking.
    Solutions:
  • Cast an illusion on target and let it hang around it. If the mob is still invulnerable when e.g. a Berserker is whirling through it, it still will not die and will not break anything, but the illusion is not wasted and can scratch vulnerable nearby mobs.
  • Disable casting with a “skill requires a target” text.
    Trollution:
  • Just waste as well all classes’ AoE skills which get casted under invulnerable mobs and which melt those down that fast that an illusion can’t even touch them.

9. Blink not blinking. DEV: “Intended, follows standardized shadowstepping rules. No repro otherwise.”

  • Not blinking when it should, just teleports you where you already are and enters a full cooldown.
  • Possibly caused by uneven terrain and anti-exploit mechanics paired with lazy blocking volume placement on maps. However, this behaviour is extremely inconsistent: you may be able to blink over stairs and fences in Lion’s Arch but then fail to move forward through a presumably flat surface.
    Solutions:
  • Fix it to always work.
  • At least inform us (change the indicator to red) when your broken pathing system decides that we will not be blinked – BEFORE we try to.
  • At least block casting and do not force a cooldown when you know the skill will not be able work.

10. Phantasms and enemy pets/mobs. (reported by frifox) DEV: “Fixed some now, will fix some later.”

11. Phantasmal Haste. Fixed in 15AprFP!

12. Friendly projectile reflection bug. (reported by Xaylin) DEV: “Intended. Those skills bounce to allies and only grant the POSITIVE effects “boons” its not attached to reflect. (Trick: use your reflect to grant extra bounces:D:D:D)”

  • Friendly projectiles are reflected.
  • Happens with Mirror and F4 with Masterful Reflection.
  • Negatively affects the use of Staff Clones, iMage and iDisenchanter.
  • Probably also affects other friendly projectiles.
  • More info here and here.

13. Warden’s Feedback trait. Broken in 15AprFP.

  • May damage only the target but not other reflected enemies? Repro.
  • May not reflect (block instead) unless the target is on top of Warden?
  • May reflect projectiles upwards?
  • Temporal Curtain is too short (most projectiles will fly over the curtain) and is unreliable (some of the ground projectiles do not reflect, even at point-blank range)?
  • Warden will continue reflecting even past its whirl animation?

14. Illusions not spawning after weapon swap. (reported by Reesha) DEV: “Server-side, can’t fix at this time. “Lag related” Blame living world updates:D”

UPDATE 21 APRIL 2014. 15AprFP in short:

  • Fixed: 11. Phantasmal Haste; 26. Mirror of Anguish (Halting Strike); 28. Illusion of Life; some bugs not listed here.
  • Not Fixed: 2. Phantasmal Warden; 18. Illusionary Elasticity; 7. Portal Entre/Exeunt only got a tooltip update.
  • Broken: 13. Warden’s Feedback reflections; 35. Outfits not applying to clones; 36. GS1 damage indicator.
  • Intended: 2 mantra traits swapped lines.

Here’s a list of mesmer bugs and broken skills. If I got anything wrong, if you have more info or if I missed something, please comment and I’ll update the list.

1. Illusions exploding after target stealths. Fixed!

2. Phantasmal Warden. Fixed Broken since November 26, not fixed in 15AprFP:

Phantasmal Warden: This phantasm will now properly try to enter the attack range of its target before using its skill.

  • Just spawns there and does nothing.
  • Runs after a target and does nothing, not starting attack.
  • Spawns next to the target but runs off to a completely different target and aggroes it.
  • Extremely game-breaking for sPvP/WvW players. Game-breaking for PvE players.
    Solutions:
  • Revert the changes, make it stationary and reliable.
  • Rewrite the AI to properly (hint, hint) work with terrain slopes and to correctly calculate minimum distance to target. Start attack immediately on spawn regardless of target movements. When attack started, continue attack and do not interrupt with target’s movement.

3. Illusionary Leap + Swap. Broken since long ago. DEV: “Hard to fix.”

  • The illusion will not reach the target, in most cases it will stop half-way. Usually caused by any slightest tilt or bump in terrain, but can happen anywhere. As a result, the Swap skill used for Blurred Frenzy bursting onto a locked target gets so unreliable that it is almost unusable.
  • Game-breaking for all players. Makes impossible planning the usage of skill combos.
    Solutions:
  • Rewrite the AI to ignore ANY terrain slopes and ONLY use the direct distance to target for calculation.
  • Rework the skill to spawn the illusion onto a target and emulate a ghost animation of its leaping.

4. Temporal Curtain. Broken since release. DEV: “Working as intended. Good topic for debate on changing in the future.”

  • Will not stack swiftness at all. To get swiftness, you have to stop, wait before swiftness wears off, and ONLY THEN walk over swiftness.
    Solutions:
  • In this thread – limit number of buffs per user, max applicable swiftness duration.
  • Revert to swiftness stacking when passed over multiple times.

5. Illusions targeting anything but the player’s target. Broken since (?). DEV: “Deceptive evasion clones attack closest target, otherwise no repro.”

  • Mostly visible on Illusionary Warden, Illusionary Defender, Illusionary Duelist. Examples: in Twilight Arbor at last boss Defender will run off to a random seed turret instead of standing at the Nightmare Tree defending the players THERE; Warden will be cast on the Champion Snow Wurm at Lornar’s Pass (completely flat terrain), but immediately after spawn will run off to a random Snow Wurm instead and aggro it; Warden will be cast on the Veteran Ettin at Lornar’s Pass (slope terrain), but immediately after spawn will run off to a random Ettin instead.
  • Clones created by Deceptive Evasions may target anything.
  • AI and RNG take control over player’s skills and tactics, disrupting the game flow and discouraging players from mastering their class and instead encourages mindless spamming.
    Solutions:
  • Permanently lock all illusions to the targets they were cast on. Illusions die when the TARGET dies, but WHY illusions attack different targets then?
  • If illusions are intended to be attacking anything, then do not kill illusions until mesmer is out of combat. Be consistent in your decisions, design team!

6. Stuck after Phase Retreat/Blink. DEV: “Fixed some now, will fix some later.”

  • General game bugs which cause you to teleport inside a wall/rock mesh gets extremely annoying when running a mesmer. (Using staff in Caudecus Manor was a PAIN.)
  • Sometimes gets you permanently locked in place.
20 level 80s and counting.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a dev response on this topic.

An update to acknowledge this is still being actively investigated would be greatly appreciated by the mesmer community.

Thanks for posting this thread, Isscha. I had this happen on a character who was a member of the Whispers, and now she’s in the Vigil as a result. But if she has access to both vendors at the end of all of it, I won’t worry about deleting her to fix it.

Did you play any of the steps with another player? If you play co-op and choose to accept story progress at the end of the story step, it will put you on the same storyline as the other player, even if it doesn’t match your own.

This is such a weird way to do it. Either it’s the same mission, aside from which NPC mentor is gallivanting around with you, or they are technically unique missions.

Why does this happen if they technically are separate? Since player race dictates which recruiting missions are available, the game enables us to group up from different orders and still receive the "Accept Progress" option. In other missions, this is not an option for party members unless they are in the party leader’s order and on the same step.

If it is the same mission, with some logic based on the party leader to dictate which NPC mentor appears, why was there not additional logic to ensure that story mission completion worked correctly for all party members instead of blindly following the party leader’s? There aren’t that many potential cases for which mission should be next, it’s a little baffling that folks are allowed to group for these and then not prevented from bouncing off their chosen path.

You could use Fine Transmutation stones to move the upgrades.
Of course that will destroy the karma armor.

Or use Upgrade Extractors from gemstore.
…then again those are 250 gems each.

It’s pretty unfortunate nothing warns about that.
Karma items used to be salvageable but were changed a long time ago to prevent Karma converting to materials so efficiently.

Bought Melandru gear at temple with the idea of salvaging it for the runes but jk, not salvageable.

Can you at least put a freaking “not salvageable” on these items, please? Just so kittens like me don’t go wasting 240k karma on utterly useless armor with random stats that are not even good to recycle (because you can’t recycle them, lol)?

Either that, or make them salvageable. It’d be 42k karma per rune which seems overpriced anyways, but at least I could make some use out of them.

Thanks for your attention, in the hope you’ll stop trolling your players with this kitten. But I’m sure this will sink together with the other billions complaints because no one really gives a flying bird.

So was in an overflow for the Marionette. We just got the 5/5 part done, and what happens?? The client inconveniently decided to send me to character select.
Log back in, and sent to the main server – not the overflow I was on.
So everything a character does get erased, and we log back in disgruntled.

So… Why can’t the game track your character’s progress during event, then offer rewards when logging back in?

Also, why not also log the character back into the server/overflow they was in before the client decided to not play nice?

Surely a temporary game-encrypted log can be run during events. Then get the player logged back to their previous overflow, and/or offer any rewards that are due.

tried posting into suggestions but it refuses to allow replies or new posts…

revert the changes until u got a solution instead of just letting it sit there the way it is. it was working great before that.

Hey everybody, an update on the search situation. The issue with search is a bit more complex than anybody thought it would be. Today we deployed an update to the forums that contained a few unrelated bugfixes. Since this deploy, it appears that the search function is working again.

However, we have not yet addressed the root cause of why search breaks in the first place and cannot predict how long it will remain functional. When search ceases to function, please update this thread again. We will explore options to potentially restore search again if it ceases to function, but I can’t make any promises at this time.

Looks like the indexing borked up again. Right after the deploy I was testing with common terms and was getting 50+ pages of results. I’ll be sure to pass on how quickly this degraded, hopefully the information will help with fixing the issue.

Sometimes I imagine Anet have a big paper list pinned up on the fridge of all the bugs that need fixing. They stare at it everyday and say, “We’ll do that one… tomorrow!”. Thanks for the tip! I tried the searchbar a while back and figured it was just a minor bug. Pretty disappointed to find out that this a continuous problem. Poor form; if Anet is too busy to fix it right now, they could at least remove it until it actually works. :P

Just use google like I do. Make sure to put gw2 first and you’ll see a bunch of posts on your topic. Google even let’s you search by date too.

That’s not the point. I feel that forum is integral part of service they provide and as such has to work properly – it does not.

Why would they even try to develop their own forum solution when they obviously do not have means to do so properly? It lacks usability, features and these that are here do no work.

Just suck up your pride anet, get one of
already well working available solution and mod it to your needs, that would have been easier and probably cheaper if that was done in the first place

I had problems with targeting the great jungle worm, The target thingy is too high and i cant select it when i am near the boss so i use my tab to target… But targeting selects all the other mobs first, so its really stupid that targeting doesnt select real boss first that is targeted by everyone.
And they should lower the targeting thingy on the worm because its too high. People who fight in close combat they cant select it with mouse.

I think everyone has this problem with the Great Jungle Wurm. Was this even tested?

If you use tab, it targets every champion in the area except the boss itself. And trying to click that targeting cross with your mouse is extremely difficult in close combat. I have to tilt the camera all the way up, and spam left mouse button until I land a hit.

It’s worse when you get that big notification:

“The Great Jungle Wurm is vulnerable, now is the time to attack!”
(or something along those lines)

Because you run right up to the thing, and you just can’t get the game to target the boss correctly. It will target every single champion but the boss. And once I finally manage to target the boss, he’s usually back up again.

Did Marionette last night. In the path, I had 2 wardens up on a Champion Aetherblade Grenadier, and someone else had 1 up on it. All 3 just stood there and never did anything before finally dying.

Also, on the bow of the airship in “Not So Secret”, trying to cast warden on one of the 3 mobs standing just past the crates very frequently results in the warden spawning and doing nothing, particularly if it spawns toward the edge.

thats the reason why i dont use focus anymore. this bug killed my fave phantasm. i loved the iwarden. its really bad they even touched this phantasm at all as it was fine the way it was before

Honestly, what I would like to see is it behave like this

1 Summon
2 Attack
3 Attack is complete
4 AI turns on and tries to follow target
5 Cooldown is done for the whirl
6 Start attacking again wherever it is currently standing, regardless if it got in range of it’s target or not

Warden’s damage is nice, but most of the time, the reason it is important is for blocking or reflecting projectiles. I can see where it is and when it is spinning, I’ll move there if I need to.

We’ve had threads about the bad targeting at the top of the bugs forum since launch, and not a single dev has bothered to post in any of them. I’m 100% sure they are aware of the issue and do not need more examples from us. But it is a good idea I think, to keep reminding them that this is an issue that won’t just go away by itself.

Without proper targeting, a fundamental part of the core combat system is broken. Translated: This means that poor targeting is responsible for more player deaths than anything else in the game.

This is exactly why I started this thread to make sure it stays at the top(ish) part of the forum and keep hammering away the point that this vital part of gameplay is a bug that needs fixing.

I have been told that mods do take notice of threads that are active and do fwd the info to devs if it is a consistently reported problem, but only if the replies keep it active. I know other threads have been started but my hope is to try and unite them under one thread to really highlight the issue.

I originally made a point of tearing down the living world content (I was angry at the time) but the core of that post is still relevant: I know living world content is vital to bringing in new players as much as holding onto existing players but I feel that it should not be more important than integral parts of gameplay like targeting.

If this is not the case I wish that someone would give some hint that the targeting issue has been discussed. Not just by fans and players but by the people who are in positions to affect change.

I’m not lost, I know exactly where I am…I just didn’t want to be here right now.

I ran into the targeting problem again today, this time in the Living Story. I was in the Dead End Bar, and I had the hardest time selecting the item closest to Marjory. Instead of examining the item, the game would make me talk to Marjory instead. I kept clicking on the object, trying to select it, but it took forever.

Why is directly clicking on a target so unreliable?

Autotargeting should not attack white and yellow mobs. It should only attack red mobs.
Please change autotargeting.
Currently autotargeting is made to attack the closest mob, which is stupid. Why would you attack yellow or white mob? Nobody wants that.

This happens all of the time, especially during one of Scarlets invasions. My character can be standing right beside an Atherblade champion but the auto target locks onto a moa or a wolf. Sometimes when it the clockwork champ is the only enemy around and there are no other non hostile creatures around the auto target will not even pick up on the champ. This happened on a somewhat regular basis in the past but seems to be getting worse now.

Similar problems crop up whenever I use my Thief, too. It seems the game sees all the targets that are in my range, and then decides to go for the on I’m aiming at rather than the one I’m currently engaged with.

I try to avoid ranged combat for the most part, though. Not for this reason, but I just find it’s iritating having random enemies walk in your path when you’re fighting something and then joining the fray…

I’m looking at you Oakhearts of Queensdale…Keep away from me while I’m trying to free the Siege Engineers…
