It’s definitely time to splurge
Oddly enough, however, leveling, in the traditional sense, is the worst part of MMOs. I hope that we evolve beyond it, or make leveling, or what it means to gain a level something interesting, or at least mix it up.
Leveling is nothing like the worst part of any MMO, and it will never go away.
Simply because then you’ll have an action game, which is a genre that already exists.
It’s “difficult” in the sense of old arcade games – if you make a mistake you have to start all over. It wouldn’t be bad if the fights weren’t taking so long, but having to do the same repetitive combat phase several times without screwing up?
Not my cup of tea.
It looks nice, but I’m removing it because of the intrusive ads.
Also I’d recommend splitting the interface into two columns. Right now the progress percentage has to scroll up when you move down the list, which is not very convenient. I think it would be better displayed in a fixed left column, while the crafting materials scroll down on the right.
1]most fun/competitive pvp class?
Guardian
2]do the specs that you pick in the character creation screen really mean anything in the long run? ex earth, water, fire, air for ele.
Not really.
3]at this point do you have to spend rl money to be competitive?
There’s nothing in gem store that improves your competitiveness.
I’ve played another WVW game with a similar issue.
It even had the same thing with some <famous country> players complaining that other countries did not deserve to:
a) play during <famous country> off hours
b) play during <famous country> peak hours, because of limited WvW slots
c) type foreign languages in the chat box that obviously belongs to <famous country> players
d) some more nonsense…
In the end, nobody listened to them, and night players continued to happily play at night.
… You dont start to see a pattern? Really?
I see anecdotal evidence. Really.
Tell me, then, why can that “experience” be nullified for the sum of ~$45 and 6 hours of crafting that adds virtually nothing to a player’s skillset with respect to PvE? Got $45 to buy gems to trade for gold, got 6 hours to burn, well there’s 80 – what you are saying applies to other MMOs perhaps, but not to this one.
Just let someone pay for 80 straight up. No BS crafting needed.
Nothing is nullified by crafting. Paying for 80 is not offered as a leveling method. It’s there if you want to do it, but it’s not something you have to do, and not an intended way to level.
Again, it’s there to give you some exp while you are playing the game normally, just like exploring the map, or gathering herbs.
Yes the leveling experience, that diehard holdover from earlier MMOs, is nullified by crafting. Also, If it wasn’t “intended” they would have taken it out.
I don’t want to level, lemme just buy some gems and sit here and craft = leveling nullified. So what if its a choice, it’s nullified nonetheless. Why, then, even have crafting in place? Just give an instant 80 for some gems.
They didn’t take it out because it is intended to help players that play normally. Just because someone will exclusively use that to skip playing the game is not a reason to remove it.
Nobody is ever going to make it possible for you to level instantly. Sit there and craft if you don’t want to play the game.

“seeing PvP people being able to enjoy their pastime without having to trudge through the leveling quagmire is disheartening”
Oh god, shame on those nasty sPvP’ers for enjoying a gamemode they like!
I like sPvP a lot, PvP is actually one of the strongest points of this game, but when I can hop into the Mists as an 80, but have to go through a load of BS to do the same for PvE it’s kinda like “wtf.”
Leveling is not a part of PvP experience. Fast action is.
Leveling is a part of PvE experience. See the difference?
I see why it exists in theory, but with respect to the GW2 system it’s just a needless brick wall.
It exists because some people enjoy leveling in an RPG game.
Leveling and gearing up is a big deal in RPG games on this side of the world.
Does your theory include these concepts?
But having to gring out levels to be able to dungeon and whatnot is just a needless chore.
Only three dungeons require you to be over 70, not counting Fractals. You can do the others just fine with lowbie toons.
Again, the problem seems to be within your mindset.
Yes they need to make all items account bound over soulbound and nowhere does he say they should have “profession” changing. Troll much?
Account Bound should be reserved only for certain types of items, not every piece of gear you can equip.
Read carefully, the guy clearly thinks that Profession Change needs to be added to the game.
Sorry, I don’t interpret they don’t offer as they should offer, but, we have differing thoughts, that’s one of the things that makes humans unique.
It’s the accusatory tone that gives it away.

So, GW2 introduced crafting exp to assist your leveling, as one of the many things in the game that give you exp, and your complaint is that you can’t level even faster?
PvP toons are leveled to 80 for the sake of balance.
If you don’t like leveling, why are you playing this kind of RPG? You could try Assassin Creed, it’s a nice action game and lets you do stuff without requiring you to level.
They’ve needed to follow the trends of other mmo’s in loot for a long long time now, it’s not just problems with the rewards system it’s a poor design to use the 2004 Bind to Character system.
They need to use the more modern Bind on Account especially since they don’t offer things like Profession Change items in their store. Seriously.
They don’t need to do anything like that, especially profession change.
For those of us who consider their main toon (or one of their main toons) unplayable after the massive redo, we are left with a toon we cannot use.
There’s your problem right there. You consider it unusable, it’s your problem. The toon is fine.
You don’t deserve any compensation imo.
Seriously. $200. Never again. “Fool me once” and all that.
In fact, it’s probably going to be quite a while before I buy another gem for real cash.
You spent 200 bucks on gambling, and complain? The fault is entirely yours.
Don’t spend money you can’t afford to lose on gambling.
Again, I’m not complaining, I can afford it, and of course it’s my fault. I’m not suggesting otherwise, or trying to blame A-Net. I certainly wouldn’t blow $200 at a casino. I don’t know why I thought this should be any different.
Just trying to provide some feedback.
You were probably better off spending the $200 in a casino. At least you’d be gambling it on something that would give you real value in real life.
No it wouldn’t.
Some people never learn…
You spent 200 bucks on gambling, and complain? The fault is entirely yours.
Don’t spend money you can’t afford to lose on gambling.
I once knew several people who took this same stance on r(a)pe, you don’t protect yourself, it’s your fault.
It is never the victims fault, not in thievery or any exploitation of any kind. And you should be ashamed of yourself.
Did you just compare Dragon Coffers to kitten ?
add a definite way to receive the item at a very high gem price
That won’t make any difference – people are already complaining about the fixed price on the new skins.
There are many guilds like that.
The problem with your so-called “loyalty” is that it locks you inside a single community with less opportunities to meet other people. Try out some other guilds, and don’t feel bad about “betraying” an antiquated loyalty system, you don’t owe anyone anything.
PS. I also fail to see the connection to american pie. Maybe you mean the “cake is a lie” instead?
They look amazing
I bought heavy version for my norn, I really like it :]
Wow, sexay

And yet you say ""Fool me once" and all that.".
Nobody fooled you.

I like AOE looting
Good work
I wonder if you can add a link to it on the wiki?
I’m not sure what is the wiki policy on such links.
No offense meant, but the question doesn’t make much sense, since the game is 100% free once you purchased it. You can reinstall it anytime and have a look yourself.
So since there’s no point in asking that question – why do people ask it? Attention craving?
To bash the game.
It wouldn’t be so bad if they had a point to make, but the idiots flat out lie about everything…
Added Zhaitaffy vendor items.
Also I checked it out on my Android tablet, and I’m not impressed by how the drop down menus are handled there. Not sure how to fix…
So it’s 63% MF a real thing or not?
It’s not a real thing.
It’s based on assumptions and anecdotal evidence.
I don’t really understand why there needs to be a 100g difference between two tiers.
Same reason there are obstacles in skin farming.
You are supposed to choose what you want to wear, and allocate resources towards that goal. You are not supposed to have every armor in the game.
As a result of that system, there is a lot of diversity in the armor you see people wearing, which is good.
Terrible suggestion, don’t agree.
The biggest problem would be the invasion of “free to play” characters in World vs World, since you’re automatically up-leveled to 80. They can’t allow that, or freeloaders would just get the best possible gear for a level 20 (or whatever level limit the free trials have) and play WvW for free.
Is that a bad thing?
Definitely. Freeloaders who can play the game forever without paying a cent to participate in its improvement are bad. It’s the upscaling to 80 which is a problem in WvW. Or maybe they can simply forbid siege engine usage and don’t give any kind of loot to “free” accounts, and/or limit the time they can spend in WvW every day. But some harsh limits must be added to encourage people to buy the full version.
And sPvP should also be forbidden to any permanent trial, or at least severely limited (like only 1 or 2 matches per day maximum).
Oh no, free players don’t deserve to play the game!
NOT.
There are plenty of things Arena.net could do to prevent abuse, without implementing draconian restrictions that would defeat the purpose of a free trial
There are quite a few tooltip errors in food tooltips, I tried to gather them all in this topic.

Meh… OP wasn’t even infracted for this post. Not worth reading.
Why can’t monsters dodge, flee or avoid AoE?
There’s nothing more annoying than fleeing monsters…
Yeah, the loot system in Rift is much better… like, the first person to “tag” an enemy in PvE play gets the loot, if you hit it second too bad. Or when you’re in a group and it randomly assigns loot to this person or that. Or even when something valuable drops – that you may or may not actually be able to use – then everyone gets to make a random roll to see who gets it.
Yeah, much better system, no RNG involved at all.
That is better??? o.o
No thanks, not in my GW2…
Wait, why are we arguing about what people call each other on the internet?
It’s not relevant who he’s talking about though. The problem is how easy it is to call someone fan boy even without provocation. Nick has issues with the game. He doesn’t like the game, so it’s easy to just say this guy’s a fan boy.
Even a fan boy in theory could have an opinion that’s worth listening to. It’s dimissive, it brings nothing to the conversation, and it shouldn’t be used. It’s just someone’s opinion not about the game, but about another poster.
It is relevant, because “fanboy” is not just a superficial slur.
Fanboys cause a lot of damage to their games and their communities.
Ah, but this is where opinion comes in. I handle criticism just fine…it’s SPECIFIC criticism that I object to, as I’ve said many times before. I’ve said negative stuff myself about Guild Wars 2, so obviously I can handle criticism.
The problem is if I don’t agree with ‘your’ criticism, which is obvious to ‘you’ then I must be some kind of fan boy. Do you not see out totally dismissive that is?
It’s really no better than calling someone a troll because they posted something you’ve disagreed with.
If you handle criticism just fine, he’s probably not talking about you when he says fanboys then
You use the term fan boy as an insult. Being a fan of a game doesn’t make your opinion worth less than anyone else. It’s true I think that picking on someone’s grammar and spelling is the wrong thing to do.
But coming into a thread and warning people about incoming fan boys, just because their opinion is different from yours is just as obnoxious. It doesn’t help the thread. It doesn’t talk to the issues.
Before you point your finger at others, maybe you should look at your own forum behavior.
A fanboy is not the same as a fan.
Why is that? A fan is someone who likes the game. You can be a Star Trek fan, it means you like Star Trek a lot. I was a Yankee fan once upon a time. I liked the Yankees a lot. And if I like Guild Wars 2 a lot, I’m a Guild Wars 2 fan.
The ONLY reason to add the term boy after it is to try to make someone look worse, which devalues their view. It’s the same exactly thing as calling someone who doesn’t like the game a hater, or a naysayer.
Once the word fanboy is used, you’re actually asking others to not listen to anything this person says, because this person has no ability to judge. That’s not necessarily true.
If people are going to use the term fan boy to devalue the opinions of those who like the game, their own arguments should be equally suspect.
A fanboy is more like a brainwashed zombie that can’t handle any criticism about his game, always supporting even the stupidest crap that is thrown his way.

“probably” and “most likely” doesn’t cut it when it comes to balance
It’s only probably on our end. Devs have actual reasons for making it that way.
Lol, most complains I here and the reason that people stop playing GW2 all comes down to the gem-store focus. The gold-driven system and the RNG has a lot to do with that.
How do you get anything in this game? Being lucky, farming gold (there are like 3 ways to do that) or buy money. Well, not a small part of the player base but a huge part does not like that. Why where so many people so enthusiastic about SAB and MF?
Because you where rewarded for our time and skill. MF still had a big RNG but IF that would not have been temporary that would not have been a problem. And strangely the only complain I hear about MF is that is was temporary. Is has nothing to do with the play-style of a few people that benefit from it in other games. Almost nobody likes to just farm for gold, or buy gems to get the stuff you need. Most people don’t like that they want multiple ways playing the game, getting that. Doing dungeons, doing JP’s, doing WvW or killing mobs but not farming for gold. using real money to buy it…. And then still having a big change of not getting it.
If you really think it’s just a small part of the people I can ensure you you are wrong. But we both don’t have the numbers to proof it.
This has to be one of the most delusional posts I’ve seen in a long time.
You get anything in this game by playing it. Dungeons give you plenty of tokens to buy gear, karma, guild missions, fractals, dailies…
It’s the cosmetic skins you are talking about, not the “stuff you need”. Stop lying already.
There are sigils that trigger all kinds of cool stuff when you swap weapons.
A giant dragon threatens to destroy the world:
let’s give him a pedicure.
Care to expand and back up the claims thakittens not a problem?
Sure. Cosmetic items were supposed to be monetized, it was announced way before launch. That was the price of keeping the game fair and fun for everyone. Instead of having subs or p2w content, we can play the entire game fairly for free, and only pay for luxury items that don’t affect anything whatsoever.
As such, complaining about an intended and hyped feature is silly.
Just another " you don’t NEED it post". I think there are WAY too many of these. See how that works? Opinions…..
Why yes it is.
Can you post an actual argument against it instead of just dismissing it?
In real life, skill is rewarded significantly more than time spent. Grind is rewarded in MMOs to cater to the lowest denominators.
No, grind is rewarded because it can be easily monetized.
