Black Gate – Immortals of the Mist [IoM]

Words of advice....
Daecollo don’t break something that isn’t broken. If you having a hard time using swords then swords isn’t for you.I wonder if he will get to the point where he understands the warrior class isn’t for him. Time will tell.
I wouldn’t go that far, because warriors does need some tuning to make the warrior community smile. It’s been almost a year and unfortunate not many improvement came to this profession. The good thing is they are listening, but also being cautious on their designs for warriors because
* They don’t want to make this profession an unstoppable beast a.k.a fotm, but how can it be one if they lack survivability.
* They don’t want this profession to be another guardian even though having protection boon would help this class a bit.I’m pretty sure they’re several reasons, but they do need to get out of their warrior op fear zone so that this profession can breathe in pvp.
I don’t play much spvp, but are players suppose to have a 50/50 chance of winning a fight regardless of class, build, or equipment layout? I always thought they built spvp around one idea, that skill would prevail. Is there no rock paper scissors to the mix? i.e. X class will have a higher chance of winning vs Y class but a lesser chance of winning vs Z class (for those that don’t understand the rock, paper, scissors theory).
It just strikes me that most warrior players think that X class should be able to beat Y and Z unless they are bunker classes or high mobility to run away from the fight.
In WvW I actually enjoy the warrior the most and I have my good share of 1v1 victories, defeats, and some players that just countered everything I threw at them. I’ve won my share of 1v2’s as well, regardless of the other classes’ skill. Heck the other night I was able to drop an elementalist and a d/p thief to the down positioned before the rest of their group rolled me.

Warrior’s have okay survivability if you play smart, pick your fights and are aware of your cooldowns. Against rangers and necros you absolutely cannot engage unless you have your berserker stance ready. Signet of Stamina won’t do anything against their AoE spam because the conditions will get reapplied instantly.
Warrior’s have to go to great lengths to survive even 1v1 while on my guardian I can easily tank 2+ people if there isn’t too much CC (i.e engis). They can instantly heal back to full health if necessary and they get a lot of passive healing from regen and symbols. Really the only condition they need to be worried about is poison which needs to be cleansed instantly.
That being said I’ve only played bunker spec guardian with very low DPS and I play glass cannon warrior, so it might be fair.
From a 1 vs 1 standpoint...
The Healway build will outlast a full GC warrior because of the multiple options a bunker guardian has to delay, mitigate, or all out stop incoming damage. On top of that, they get good access to retaliation which allows the warrior to kill himself on the guardian (even after the nerf).
Honestly, if it was a GC warrior and a Bunker "Whatever" it should be a close fight but it’s not even close.
well i have a hybrid war i can stack insane bleed damage and do final thrust for 5k..
but they seriously need to fix final thrust
and what i was thinking was
Blademaster
Increases your critical-hit chance with a sword by 10%.
-20% cooldown for sword skillsbut sure, i would love some direct damage on sword. i wish they would have made sword like axe and axe like sword. <3 sword
This is cool. More access to different conditions would actually allow warriors to have more diverse roles in the game. I attempted a build with Distracting Strikes and with the nerf to confusion, it’s less effective than I believed, even running a hammer + mace/shield.
Doing fine in WvW. Enjoy my warrior even more.
I don’t Spvp because I think it’s a diluted version of pvp where they fail to deliver the whole idea that everyone is equal and it’s solely based on trait composition, weapons, skill, and team work.
Hate PvE in this game due to not having the trinity.
You guys actually want a sure-fire skill that removes 3 conditions every 7-10 seconds? Get real.
+1. There are builds that rely entirely on condition damage to kill. How would you guys like it if everyone ran around with 50% uptime on Endure Pain? Cleanses should never reliably outpace application.
How would you like it if you did 0 damage because the other players crippled and kited you to death.
I would say you may need to rethink your strategy if this is an issue or pick up some gap closers because your build is lacking in mobility.
Why is it Anet’s fault some warriors are bad?
1) It’s nice to see that Anet does read the forums and listen to the community. Cleansing Ire was taken from this suggestion thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Suggestion-on-how-Adrenaline-work/first#post1870876
2) I agree that Cleansing Ire should be fixed. It’s not even a very difficult fix to implement:
a) Check if target hit connected minus conditions (it currently checks if hit would connect before burning adrenaline so only a slight change here). If = true, then b)
b) Condi removal check : if blind would be removed due to cleansing ire, allow skill to connect & burn adrenaline. If blind would NOT be removed due to too many cover conditions, miss target, don’t burn adrenaline.
Nice find. Anet gives us what we suggested and look, we grief them for it. Ha! Cleansing Ire is fine. It’s just not dummy proof.
Everybody and their mothers …
…scream with their mothers how it’s unfair… bla bla bla… adapt to meta or die.
…everybody and their father would be there gaming.
J.
I feel like you have mommy and daddy issues….nevermind. Back on topic.
Guardians have a great source of condition removal built into the class’s traits and utilities. If that doesn’t work, look into runes and adjust. Warriors have it bad but I use melandru + lemongrass to assist with that. Point being, there are options. You just have to think about how you want to go about doing it.
Who?
/15 characters
a guy who teaches new players and came up with a bunch of builds that everyone else already ran anyway
Sounds like a great guy, we need more of those.
Too bad he didn’t main a warrior. That forum is drowning in tears and self pity.
Best of luck, mate. I will be reviewing your youtube channel now.
its not RNG. It pulses every other second. Stand in it for a while and find out for yourself.
Hit Retreat, use SoS and stand in it. You will see your swiftness duration change appropriately.
This will not work appropriately. Symbol needs to be first then Retreat. Don’t ask me why but it doesn’t increase in duration with Retreat first.
Symbol of Swiftness > Save Yourself > Retreat will give you the most out of swiftness. Just make sure the Symbol, veil, warhorn is first.
Anyone tried Furious + Sharpened Axes to see if we are looking at 4 times as much adrenaline regen (when you crit) ?
Increase travel speed to almost a teleport and remove the ability to cast without a target. Similar functionality of a Flashing Blade.
An example would be the speed at which a warrior can charge in World of Warcraft for all the ex-WoW players. That type of speed to your target would assist with making contact. Heck throw a 1 second cripple on it to insure your attack connects.
Distracting Strikes is counter-productive. You interrupt someone to confuse them, then they must use a skill, but you just interrupted them so they can’t use skills?
Its pretty easy to remove since your main source of damage is bleed/temporary confusion and you rely on RNG and your enemy not running stability.
Stability will have a big impact on this build for sure. I’ve had that trouble with boon heavy guardians. Usually, spacing out your interrupts will to keep confusion up was the plan with the option of a stun lock. I see your point of view how confusion would be useless if they can’t even attack back.
I can’t seem to find anything worth while in the Strength tree if Distracting Strikes is a bust. I will just miss that power boost. If it is, I might try http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAS8ejcOxutQ+OMRCEkCNkLOKUilQpYOcjUBxA-jkyAYLBZqCEZBgKAn8KiGbZsIas6HM15iq1nAejioVLDAzCA-w for heavy fury uptime on immobolizes + a leap.
...
Personally, I think the lack of movement is a dealbreaker but who knows...Confusion was nerfed in WvW/PvP so that could also be a strike to your main tactic. I never got a chance to play with Distracting Strikes but I’ve been contemplating it for a new Mace build.
Movement is rough on this build but I haven’t had a lot of issues yet. Most thieves only use the SB for escaping. I’m still waiting on a range class to put me on my butt to start my rethinking process but haven’t had much trouble yet.
I still and probably will always have a problem with healway guardians and bunker eles but I was hoping the CC would allow me to chain an ele to death.
I was Axe/Shield + Hammer before for eviscerate burst and steady dps through axe auto attack. Haven’t tried the new version yet. This was the pre-patch build I had.
I have two variations I am trying to sort out and would love your constructive feedback on these two very similar builds. The objective is to use your 3 stuns, 2 knockdowns, 1 daze, and 1 knockback to interrupt your foe and cause 4 stacks of confusion for 8 seconds. The Master trait in Disc I chose was DoTE and I considered swapping Signet of Fury with Signet of Might to pierce with my CC.
Build #1 - Unsuspecting Foe gives you 100% crit on Earthshaker and Skull Crush (which was buffed this patch) on top of a passive 5% crit bonus and a little more damage for confusion.
Build #2 - Cleansing Ire for more condition removal and toughness + 5% more power from toughness.
I need to test Superior Sigil of Paralyzation to confirm it still bugs out to give 1 second more on your stuns.
Your weaknesses? A highly mobile class will be able to get away from you due to the lack of charges and leaps. Warrior’s Sprint is very nice, comparable to the thieve’s Signet of Shadows so be mindful of that. Kiting classes will wear you down over time if they can escape your bull’s charge + your stun lock combo.
Since people are confused about what to do with warrior. Use this build, it is OP.
You’re welcome.
Could you give us a run down of how you use this build?
So where is that sustain we were promised?
It’s over there with the equipment, utility skills, and traits you refuse to utilize.
I do utilize them, I just don’t see the sustain still.
Yeah? Post your build. I’m very interested to see what weapons, armor, utility skills, and traits you run.
And be honest. Don’t tell us you’re 0/0/30/30/10 full sentinel’s armor with a mace/shield and Shake it Off, Balanced Stance, and Endure Pain when you’re actually running 30/30/0/0/10 full berserker’s armor with a greatsword and Bulls’ Charge, Frenzy, and For Great Justice.
0/0/30/10/30 using Knights/Cavalier’s Ascended Gear (all pieces.). I have 3400 armor and I should have tons of unreliable condition removal.
I am *not* a full berserker, none of my pieces are berserker. I use Hammer + Sword/Axe.
I have plenty of healing power.
Now please stop arguing with me, the SOTG for GW stated that our healing abilities were sub-par and our sustain would be increased substancially, it is simply nothing compared to what other classes recieve.
Would love a screen shot. Where do you get "plenty of healing power" when you’re knights/cavalier?
Show me yours and I’ll show you mine..
Now fight an enemy with blind.
Doable. Definately doable, esp with hammer. Just a matter of your skill vs his skill and if his skill is 50%of yours, then you’re done for!
Blind is fine and I actually understand why they changed it. It was silly to drop a blind then your target swing at the air to remove the condition. Now you have to make an attempt to land an attack to remove it or cleanse it. It’s just a mechanic you have to relearn is all.
Hmm I might have to try this - http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAS5ejcOxutQ+OMRCEkCNkLMK+Bx7UQJUKmDAA-jkyAYLBZyCAVAmQAl8KiGbZsIas6HM15iq1nAejioVLDAzCA-w
I’ve been trying to decide if the amount of CC in this build would proc distracting strikes enough to keep it up most of the fight. Their change to Warrior’s Sprint is a nice bonus. No swiftness to get converted or stolen. Warrior’s built in Signet of Shadows.
Thanks for reminding me about Unsuspecting Foe. I think your build has too high of armor though where you can build more into Power/Prec. 3k Armor is pretty nice and I have never noticed a big difference between 3k and 3.4k. Your attack is around or below 3k though which may hinder your damage some.

This numbers are a joke i actually used a clerics amulet and test it right when the patch become online and i was like… this is BS, now add to this that we now need to use adrenaline in order to clean conditions so much for the passive…
Why do people keep saying this?
- Soldier Runes
- Melandru Runes
- Berserker’s Stance
- Dogged March
- Restorative Strength
- Warhorn
- Quick Breathing
- Shake it Off!
- Shrug it Off
- MendingTHEY STILL EXIST! USE THEM!
But Leo, I can’t go full offense and have comparable condition cleansing and sustain like the guardian can… QQ /sarcasm.
It’s like people know how they want to play and acknowledge their weaknesses but still think it’s the dev’s fault for the choices they make.
Says the guardian player with sustain and more dps…
I am a guardian player. I run a boon build and embrace my niche in a zerg/group. 80% boon duration on boons and 100% bonus boon duration on protection. I hit like a wet noodle though. StunningStyles is a great zerker guardian but he’s a roamer and not someone you’d take in a zerg. I would love to go against him to see if I had what it would take to counter his burst. He’s very smart when it comes to timing his burst.
But I also play a warrior and enjoy my build because I recognize my weaknesses and adapt.

To bad the problem is we don’t sit at full adrenaline anymore, we constantly use it.
Also, that is horrible. Altruistic healing with 0 healing power heals for 5 times as much.
Altruistic Healing is kittening garbage. Do you even know guardian skills. If you are going to discuss something at least know the subject you are talking about.
Are you talking PvP or PvE? When you trash talk someone, please clarify.
PvP. You replied to me you should now what i was talking about if you started an argument, take your own advice.
Then meditations.
Comparing Meditations is like comparing Vigorous Shouts.
You should compare Virtue of Resolve to Adrenal Health.
Oh wait, shocker, Daecollo is comparing guardians to warriors again.
/facepalm
(edited by ArtemisEntreri.4138)
I at the same level. I never had Heightened Focus anyway.
Why can’t A-net design the class based around the idea that the warrior should get stronger as he gains adrenaline?
They were going that direction with Berserker Power and Heightened Focus but then backtrack with Cleansing Ire. If anything, they should allow us to cleanse 1 condition per adrenaline bar gained. This would promote to use burst abilities.
That would give the warrior an option of using adrenaline to start the cleansing process over again or staying at capped adrenaline to boost dmg/crit.
For Healing Surge, I actually liked Daecollo’s idea of removing the stages of adrenaline to promote a stronger heal. Keep the cd it’s at but make it a flat 8k + refill adrenaline bar. That’s 281.33... HPS from that ability which is pretty nice. They would need to rework Mending to be somewhere around a 7.5k heal on it’s 25 second cooldown(300 HPS) to be comparable. This would give warrior the two options - If you have cleansing Ire, Healing Surge would be better suited for you while if you didn’t have cleaning ire, you can get mending and see comparable results.
Once again, someone speaks out about a change in weapons but doesn’t full understand how to use it. When will the mindless "roll face across the keyboard and win" mentality disappear?
It still hits hard above 50% health and awards you further hitting them below 50% health. Just be smart in timing it. Sure you will miss it a few times but when haven’t you ever missed an attack? Should I complain that I can’t land backbreaker 100% of the time because of the televised animation? Hell no, because when I do land it, it’s golden.
How did this clearly obvious issue get past testing? Do they seriously let their family and friends test their patches?
Can someone check the healing scale on Adrenal Health?
405* every 3sec. 360 healing power in spvp
Have you tested the bonus to healing power if it affects it now?
Vigorous Focus is completely useless… Building Momentum is ok but like with the new trait cleansing ire it relies on hitting your target with burst which we have problems with since an enemy can just blind/dodge/evade/invuln away…
… The Guardian greatsword simply has more damage now and survivability.
Lifesteal? We are not necromancers, I want better heals and heals that make actual sense, not the ability to steal life.
Warhorn has amazing access to vigor, problem is you need 20 points in vitality. This means we will be doing a lot less damage since most of our damage is tied directly to traits, unlike the gaurdian which gets almost all there damage in a survivability tree…
The point I was trying to make is that it’s available if you want to build for it. Berserker’s Might and Last Stand also proc Vigorous Focus as well and if you value a little more survivability you can put 20 points into vitality for the warhorn trait. Build diversity means you have a choice on how you want to play. Warriors can’t have access to everything at minimal cost without sacrificing something.
Also, warriors also can dodge, evade, and block away other key attacks as well. You talk as if the warrior class doesn’t have the necessary tools to completely dodge a mesmer’s shatter for example. It works both ways.
You’ll have to explain to me how the Guardian’s GS has more damage and survivability. Their WW is dodgeable and they have to be on top of you get the full effect of the projectiles. Their leap is dodgeable and comes with a simple blind which is dropped when you swing once. Their Symbol is avoidable but does apply retaliation if they blast or leap out of it. Binding Blade is dodgeable too. What were you talking about survivability?
The lifesteal was only an idea thrown out there since warrior’s arms tree dabbles with bleeding quite a bit. They could do something with that. Your only response was you don’t want to be like a necromancer but clearly, your past post make you sound like you want to be like a guardian so I am a little confused about that.
The guardians valor tree doesn’t give any bonus damage besides crit damage and a trait to offer a little more crit chance, which is useless if they don’t have the crit to take full effect of it. 30% crit damage w/ 4% crit won’t take you far. It’s true that trait line is heavy with survivability and any front line guardian building meditation or shouts would be wise to go into that tree because it’s so beneficial for survival.
Why do I feel like Daecollo has posted on this a hundred times now?
Also, "Warriors on the other hand, no protection, no heal traits, no condition removal, no evades, no easy access to vigor…"
Correct with no protection which is a good thing. Has heal traits such as Vigorous Shouts and Inspiring Banners, has condition removal only with Shrug it off or Quick Breathing + a few utilities. Has an evade through GS, a single block through mace MH, sword OH, and shield. By easy access to vigor, you mean not having to trait anything, which would imply you want a minor trait to give you vigor like guardians (since we know you love to compare guardians to warriors). You also have Vigorous Focus from stances and Building Momentum.
There is some build diversity amongst the warriors, like all other classes. I really like where the warrior is in WvW and PVE and I am welcoming the new changes. Warriors will adapt and change or quit. Simple as that.
For the OP - Some form of life steal or spending adrenaline for a form of regeneration(not the boon but something a thief can’t steal or a mesmer/necro turn against us) would be nice. Buffing the heals to the extent you want is a little unbalanced regardless of our lack of mitigation and high base health. A slight adjustment to functionality and cast time would be an improvement.. I would also push for more forms of mitigation through weapons. Evades, blocks, and CC (daze/stun). We are weapon masters after all.
/inb4 AlBundy starts spouting any nonsense...be constructive and add to the discussion.
(edited by ArtemisEntreri.4138)
That’s what I plan to be running. Hoping Warrior’s Sprint + swiftness + BC will allow me to stay close to my target. I am grabbing DoTE in Discipline since it’s dropping to a Master trait. I figured I could definitely set up some stun/daze + Confusion locking action.
In Strength Tree I will be grabbing Physical Training for short CD on BC and more damage.
(edited by ArtemisEntreri.4138)
They must have stopped streaming...
Cleansing Ire would make more sense cleansing 1 or 2 conditions each time a bar of adrenaline is achieved. That would promote usage of adrenaline.
I’m missing something here. when did healing surge use adrenaline? is that changing soon too?
In my opnion, the main problem of Guardians is mobility, also guards have the worst ranged atks in the game. These problems should be analyzed.
ill teach you how to catch a thief with 2 teleports and 1 leap.
Seems like you would need sword/greatsword and JI to accomplish this. Why would anyone want to roll meditations, greatsword+sword just to run down thieves?
..... seriously? Something that would actually solve one of the biggest issues with guardians, and they give it to thieves and mesmers?
Edit: Sorry, 2 issues. lack of a strong condition build, and enemy mobility reduction.
Sometimes I feel like I am dating my ex-girlfriend when reading Dev Post’s. They get me all hyped up and excited only to let me down in the end.
The logic behind giving mesmers, who already have access to confusion, torment seems beyond me. Torment + Confusion + Clones + Ranged Class = obviously unfair. You’re punishing your enemies for trying to fight you . Thieves too? Not like giving the best mobility class this condition so they can kite even more and laugh at you as your run yourself into the ground is a wise decision.
Feels more like a Necromancer or guardian condition.
(edited by ArtemisEntreri.4138)
This thread isn’t about removing conditions but bringing Deep Wounds back.

hi i dont mean to be rude, but so what ur from teir 1?, teir 1 is no skill what so ever, go tank and press 1 in the blob train, i hate teir 1, oh one more thing get ur head out of ur back side.
but i like your spvp build, been trying it out, good but no damage, thiefs just own everything and all there is range, some fun tho. what build do i need to face a 60+ blob in wvw thx my guild are about 20+ in wvw. thanks.
As for WvW, if all you do is run and press 1, you aren’t playing correctly. The skill of zerg fighting is knowing when to engage, how far to push, and having a plan to get back out. The best zergs are typically dominated by one guild who have a variety of supporting builds. They are actually quite coordinated with their skill and gear choices.
Stability, condition removal/reversal, and plenty of AoEs. Melee who wear PvT and spam 1 and any CC/snares that they have. To an extent, zerg battles are mindless follow the leader and spam your abilities and the occasional veil/portal bombs. Avoid enemy zerg aoes by shifting your mob to the left or right and wrapping back around.
Honestly, there isn’t a whole lot of tactics out there for zerg vs zerg. At least not in Tier 1.
@Lord - Is Fist of the Empire on JQ or SoR?
Yes, but that is not in tpvp…
Was Mijo talking about WvW?
60% crit damage is the max I think you can go in tpvp. 90% is impossible.
I dont do alot of wvw with my warrior, mainly tpvp, but i would like to understand how to get a lot of crit dmg (something like 90%), and still have good toughness, power and precision.
I’m on my phone so I can’t link a buildcraft, but I usually run with 20/0/20/0/30. Armor is a mix of zerker and knights, trinkets are a mix of zerker and cavalier. You can get to around 3k armor and 90 critical damage.
That’s about what I use. You can go zerk/cav trinkets but your crit chance will suffer. If you run FGJ and Sig of Rage then you can supplement that but you will have a small window where FGJ and Signet of Rage are on cd.
You’ll have about 3148 attack, over 3k armor, 19k health, but only 31% crit chance if you run full cav trinkets with ruby gems.
I use Axe for sustained damage and nice burst ability. Hammer for CC.
(edited by ArtemisEntreri.4138)
Hey all,
If you have questions about builds or traits I would suggest creating your own threads asking the community. We’ll keep this guide informative instead of striking up questions in it.
Thanks Sayl for doing the research on this!
Wouldn’t mind a rip like attack. Bladetrail hits target and immobilizes them for 2 seconds. Rip it out to cause 6 seconds of cripple and bleed the target.
With leg specialist, it could just cause a longer duration of imoobilize.
A built in immobilize to assist with landing 100B?
(edited by ArtemisEntreri.4138)
@Tyrion
I am like minded. I didn’t want to have to watch my conditions and worry about when to spend shouts or use mending so I picked up Melandru + Lemongrass.
I have a lot of success with this on targets that want to stick around and fight. Players that kite me or have great mobility dance around me so I have to get creative.
Bunker Guardians eventually kill me but they leave the fight without a scratch but that’s expected. Bunker Ele’s give me a hard time but if I can catch them off guard and without protection I can usually eviscerate them to cause them to run or go down.
Greatsword isn’t our main offensive weapon, Axe is. Greatsword is our main Mobility weapon, which is why it always gets a slot, you can’t get out of a fight without rush. The offensive power it has is icing on the cake.
Axe is high burst damage, but that hardly classifies it as “THE” offensive weapon. In fact, even the shield can be used offensively.
The main thing that sets weapons apart is their flavoring. Greatsword is high mobility and that can be used both offensively and defensively. That’s the main reason the Greatsword is the weapon of choice for nearly all builds. Mobility is the most important tool in anyone’s arsenal in GW2.
That’s not necessarily true at all in pvp. GS is taken because it’s the only weapon that ca do enough damage to in a burst situation to kill someone off. Axe Eviscerate doesn’t have nearly the oomph required to drop someone .
For GS’s burst to be effective you would need to coordinate CC on a target(s) for 100B to even be effective. Axe eviscerate has enough oomph to drop someone if you use it strategically and not at the beginning of a fight unless you’re trying to have them burn their heal.
Well after changing around some stuff to mess around I ended up going back to my Lyssa runes setup, which is 3 pieces of knight and 3 berserker. Ate some lemongrass still because I can’t seem to frown away from it even when not specced in defense line. Use FGJ, Bulls Charge, and Balanced Stance. Specced 10/30/0/0/30. Picked up a Rifle.
The key to this build for me? Sigil of Generosity on my rifle and Sigil of Nullification on my Greatsword. I was cracking up when I was on a guardian guys. This strat really happened.
Started with basic attacks with Rifle. The bunker guardian opened up with Chains of Light and my crit hit put it on him. He rooted himself. I landed a full volley on him. He’s about 50% health already. I land one more auto attack to make sure Aegis is down and he didn’t expect me to switch to GS and charge him. I did that, landed him on his rear, and then I nullified his protection and took him out.
I have to say at first i was skeptical but 60% to give back a condition and 60% to take a boon away from someone is pretty kitten often when you’re pushing 80%+ crit.
EDIT: link to build – http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJARUjcOJvxOyQMxBEThi48gKYiAU9wOqj4A-jkCBYLBiCEiIBI5RhNBSQrKqIasKGYqSLqW5CwbgRrWKgIWAA-w
Everyone knows this con – little survivability. Key is to kill before you get killed honestly. And it’s easy to do it.
Sadly, there is an internal CD on the Nullification of 10 seconds.
Actually it is very easy but you need good build.
Try this one:
Mesmer =/= warrior. Wrong forum boss or bad link.
Warrior cant kill Guardian (if this is about PvP, i dont care about PVE/WWW). That is more evident than “Mesmer =/= Warrior”.
I think he was making a point with that video.[/quote]
I wasn’t about to watch a 21 minute video to search for a point. All I saw was the beginning of a mesmer commentary which would not provide anything solid for how a warrior kills a guardian.
My current build is meant to bring down guardians… Thus far there hasn’t been a single guardian I haven’t been able to take down 1v1 in tPvP or WvW….
Video or it never happened.
Some general rules of thumb when fighting a Guardian
#1: Try to fight them ranged if at all possible
—Not always the easiest thing to do. You’ll have to make that judgement call when you can see what weapons they are using. GS/Sw+Fc = bad idea.
#2: Do NOT stand in their symbols
—Agreed.
#3: Be aware of aegis and use skills like bladetrail or autoattacks to break it and do not burn your CC on aegis.
—Good tactic
#4: Engage them fully when they don’t have a lot of boons on them (esp protection, retaliation and stability)
—If you use a hammer, be sure to keep an eye on their stability. Some builds have access to longer durations of this. Retaliation is still possible to be up for the whole fight so I wouldn’t worry about this but rather minimize the amount of small attacks. Protection will obviously be a big factor when timing your burst or CC.
#5: Constantly pressure them
—Do this smartly.
#6: Immediately clear any burns
—Pointless, they reapply every 5th attack. Their abilities only grant <5 seconds of burning at a time.
#7: Never stand close to a Guardian when they are using the greatsword #2
—You’ll notice a Symbol of Wrath, Binding Blade, and Whirling Wrath Combo quite frequently. Prepare your dodge to cancel it.
#8: Chain CC them when possible so they are forced to blow skills
—If they are shouts, they will have two stun breakers, renewed focus, and if they have the focus, #5 is usable while knocked down. You better have a stun or a daze available.
Common builds you’ll go against in WvW are:
0/0/10/30/30 - Clerics gear and high boon uptime. They won’t melt your face but they will outlast you.
0/x/30/x/x - Could be either a meditation or Altruistic healing build. Either way, they are more balanced relying on meditations or boons to heal themselves.
A good guardian will have gap closers such as sword#2, GS#3, Judge’s Intervention, or some form of immobilize/knockdown so using a range weapon might not be in the cards. It’s definitely going to be an uphill battle, especially for a warrior since we lack any sustain that the guardian has.
